Episode #12061 ~ Victor delivers bad news. Lily sets the record straight with Victoria. Chelsea celebrates a win.

Summer: Are you okay? Is there anything I can do?

Kyle: I feel guilty you're even comforting me right now. I'm the one who had an affair with a married woman, got her pregnant, and held off telling you about it. I'm surprised you haven't run away for good this time.

Summer: I told you, I'm not going anywhere.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

Summer: Okay, so, tell me. What are you most worried about?

Kyle: Hmm. Uh, there's a long list. But at the top of it right now is sally. She's a total wild card. She may only suspect that harrison is mine. That's enough to freak me out. I have no idea what she could do.

Summer: Yeah, well, I thought you weren't that concerned about her. So, what changed?

Kyle: Um, we crossed paths earlier. I may have told her to stay away from my dad. That didn't go over very well.

Summer: Mnh-mnh. How bad was it?

Kyle: Not bad enough for her to go public, but I got the sense that if I try to interfere with her relationship with my father, she would retaliate.

Summer: I guess we just have to hope that your dad will see the light on his own then.

Kyle: Yeah, 'cause I can't risk her lashing out because i have to do what's best for my son. Protect him, even if I can never see him.

Summer: I'm sorry.

Kyle: I hate it. But it's the way it has to be.

Sally: There is a brandy with your name on it. I hope you don't mind I did the honors.

Jack: Thank you. Sorry it took me so long. I was passing along your compliments to the chef.

Sally: [ Chuckles ] Well, I'm guessing mrs. Martinez knows how much I love the food because there wasn't a scrap left on my plate.

Jack: Or maybe it was the little sign you made every time you took another bite.

Sally: God, that is so embarrassing.

Jack: It was a wonderful dinner, outshone only by the guest who came to share it with me.

Sally: What is happening here?

Lily: Okay. Thank you. Well, I will be in touch when we finalize everything. Okay. Bye.

[ Phone hangs up ] Oh, my gosh. Well, this is the end of a very long but productive workday.

Billy: Mm.

Lily: What are you looking at?

Billy: Nothing.

Lily: Really? Doesn't look like nothing.

Billy: It's an article in today's business section. Remember how I told you that ashland locke was quietly shopping his media division -- cyaxares? Well, it's not so quiet anymore. News is spreading that he's looking to divest, and it's gonna spread even faster once it's confirmed.

Lily: I thought you put all that behind you.

Billy: Yeah. The thing is...I can'T.

Victoria: Daddy. What are you doing here so late?

Victor: I thought I made it clear last time that, as the owner of the company, I had a right to appear here anytime i wanted to.

Victoria: I'm not complaining. I'm just concerned. You seem like you came to deliver some bad news.

Victor: Depends on how you will react to what I have to say.

Adam: What happened? How'd you get yourself in here? I'm sorry. Those aren't "yes" or "no" questions. Have you, um, regained strength in your arms?

Adam: I just saw her and thought, uh.... my mistake.

Adam: I know that you haven't got there yet, but you are going to get there soon.

Chelsea: [ Thinking ] You're right. And when I do, I will be walking away from you as fast as I can.

Adam: I can take it from here. Thank you.

Chelsea: [ Thinking ] What were you doing on your tablet? Texting sharon? What's going to be your next excuse to leave here and go see her?

Adam: I was, uh, actually just reading something that i wanted to discuss with you. It's a potential business opportunity. And I've been running it through my head, trying to see how i feel about it and how you would feel about it.

Chelsea: [ Thinking ] Sure. Let's pretend I have a say in anything you do.

Adam: Victor wants to buy a media company that would be completely separate from newman enterprises. And he wants me to be in charge.

Victoria: Are you being coy on purpose?

Victor: No. I'm just wondering how to broach a delicate subject, you know?

Victoria: Which is?

Victor: I approached adam with a proposal. It pertains to the company that ashland locke wants to spin off -- cyaxares media.

Victoria: You went to adam?

Victor: Yeah, because you weren't interested, but I still am.

Victoria: And what did you propose?

Victor: That I buy the damn company and he run it.

Victoria: You adam want to work together again? How quickly you forget all of the pain and suffering, the wounds inflicted and incurred. You know, a lot has changed, dad, but the dynamic stays the same.

Victor: How often do I have to remind you that he is my son?

Victoria: Oh, and so it goes.

Victor: You bet. And so it goes. Now we are veering away from the subject matter.

Victoria: I don't even know what you're doing here in the first place. You've already decided that this is what you're doing, haven't you?

Victor: Yeah. Just wondered how upset you would be.

Billy: Companies come up for sale every single day. 99% of them aren't a good fit. Even that 1% still doesn't mean that it's a good buy.

Victoria: Right, and i thought that we agreed cyaxares wasn't, and now you think it is?

Billy: Well, if we were talking just about the company, then this would be a different conversation. I mean, we don't really want to go up against victor and everything that comes with that.

Lily: I don't have any beef with him.

Billy: And what if he comes after chanccomm?

Lily: I thought that you were sure that victoria wouldn't buy a company solely to put chanccomm out of business.

Billy: I still believe that to be true, but victor is cunning. And if victoria says no, he'll find another angle.

Lily: Okay. Well, then let me ask you this then. Pretend that you're ashland locke, okay? And you wake up, and you have two offers for your company, one from a man with infinitely deep pockets and the other from a very small media start-up. Which one are you gonna choose?

Billy: You're right. It's not a fair fight on paper. And if we're gonna go up against victor directly, we need to convince locke that chanccomm is the right company for his media division. We need to convince him personally that we're the right fit, okay? We're gonna have to charm him. We're gonna have to be irresistible.

Lily: Okay, I think you're overestimating how charming we are. And charm can only get us so far. The price of cyaxares is out of our reach.

Billy: Yeah. I've given some thought to that.

Lily: And?

Billy: Let me handle that.

Jack: I thought what was going on was after-dinner conversation.

Lily: Right. Yeah. No, I was just -- I was just double-checking 'cause I felt like -- I don't know -- I felt like it suddenly got a little more than casual.

Jack: It wasn't meant to be. But just because we agreed to keep things casual, it doesn't mean I set aside my curiosity about you. I mean, I want to know who's in there. I want to know what makes you tick. I want to -- I want to know what you want out of life.

Sally: Well, I want it all, jack.

Jack: [ Chuckles ] That much I know. No, I'm serious. I -- what do you think would make you truly happy?

Sally: I would love to run my own fashion house again someday. I mean, don't get me wrong. I love working for lauren. It's just that --

Jack: But it's nice to be the one calling the shots.

Sally: [ Sighs ] Exactly.

Jack: Are most of your dreams about work?

Sally: Definitely not. I mean, I was kidding about having it all, but there definitely is an element of truth to it. I want the love of good partner, of course. You know, who doesn't? I would never let my work get in the way of love. But then again, I would never let my relationship get in the way of my career.

Jack: And you're not about to compromise.

Sally: Why should I?

Jack: I don't think you should. So, do you think your parents abandoning you at a young age is maybe what fuels this drive?

Sally: Yeah. It left a void that I... hope to fill someday.

Jack: I have a strong feeling you're going to get exactly what you want.

Sally: That's really nice to hear you say that because there's a lot of people who think I don't deserve it at all.

Jack: Well, they're wrong. To hell with them.

Sally: [ Chuckles ]

Summer: So, did tara tell you anything about harrison?

Kyle: [ Sighs ] I didn't get much, except that he's a happy little boy. It's hard not to want to know more, but... like, is he shy or rambunctious? What are his interests? What does he like to do with his friends?

Summer: No, I know it hurts not knowing.

Kyle: Yeah. But do I risk ruining all of our lives for a chance to get to know my son?

Summer: I'm not ignoring the possible consequences here, but if it were my decision to make, I mean, I know that the first people I would go to for advice would be my parents. And I just think that maybe you need to talk to your dad about it.

Kyle: You think I should tell him I have a son?

Summer: Not necessarily, but maybe you just tell him about the affair, get his take on it, see if he really knows how dangerous ashland locke is, and maybe he'll give you some insight or just a different perspective maybe?

Kyle: You're right, as usual. I'll go talk to him right now. Derriere discomfort.

Jill: It's so nice of you to check in with your mother just to see how she is.

Billy: I always want to see how you're doing. In fact, i'm calling to see if i can convince you to come to genoa city for a quick visit.

Jill: You miss me that much, huh?

Billy: Yes. And there's something I want to run by you.

Jill: Well, I was planning a brief visit to genoa city to be there for abby when she goes through the surrogacy process, but it's impossible for me to get away right now.

Billy: Whoa, hold on. Back up. Surrogacy?

Jill: Oh, you didn't know? Yeah. Abby and chance are trying for a baby.

Billy: Wow. Well, that's great. I'll have to congratulate them next time I see them.

Jill: Okay, honey, I've got a little bit of time before my next meeting. What did you want to discuss?

Billy: You sure I can't change your mind? I'd really like to lay this out in person. It's a business thing.

Jill: [ Laughs ] You want money. Of course. How much and what for? And does lily approve?

Billy: Uh, we'll talk about this when we have more time, okay? Goodbye, mom. Love you.

Lily: I notice that you didn't mention ashland locke or the company.

Billy: I wanted to keep her waiting and up the suspense.

Lily: Right. Okay. Well, I'm sure she'll have the same concerns as I do.

Billy: Well, I think by the time I'm said and done with the both of you, you're gonna think that it's a good fit. In fact, I'm gonna re-send all those files that I did a deep dive on just in case you missed them the last time.

Lily: Yeah, that's fine. Send it. I'm keeping an open mind.

Billy: All I'm gonna do is help you see that this is a really good deal for us.

Lily: Your optimism is admirable.

Billy: But overblown and futile?

Lily: You said it, not me.

Billy: [ Laughs ] We'll see.

Victoria: Well, thank you very much for considering my feelings, but I thought I made them pretty clear when I passed on cyaxares in the first place.

Victor: I originally broached the subject with you because i thought it would be good for the company. I still feel that way.

Victoria: You thought that it would be a way to get to chanccomm and to billy. Making a profit was a secondary concern.

Victor: Not true.

Victoria: And what is in this for adam, by the way? Does he want to get back at billy, too, for the exposé?

Victor: You know damn well that adam right now is very preoccupied with chelsea's condition. He needs something else to focus on.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. Well, here's what I think is happening. You're not here to give me a heads-up. You want me to cave and agree that newman should buy the company so that I'll close the door on adam because you know i despise him. Well, I hate to disappoint you, dad, but the answer is still no.

Victor: You're making a big mistake, sweetheart.

Sally: I felt misunderstood by a lot of people in L.A. Though I have to admit I brought a lot of it on myself at times. I refused to let anyone come between me and what I wanted.

Jack: Yeah, for a lot of years, I led with obstinance and determination myself.

Sally: Well, it all worked out for you.

Jack: Well, it caused a few problems along the way, as i imagine it has for you.

Sally: I have learned some lessons...some painful ones, to be exact. But I feel more equipped now than ever before to take on the world. I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time. And I don't want to jinx it, but I do feel like I'm finally on the road to...making my dreams come true.

Jack: I want that to happen for you. I really do. And if there's any way I can help...I'm here. What? Wait. Did I say the wrong thing?

Sally: No, not at all. Actually, it was the opposite.

[ Chuckles ] But hearing you say that just brought me back to what we were talking about just a few minutes ago.

Jack: That we agreed not to label this. Well, that doesn't mean I'm not allowed to care about you a little, huh?

Sally: Yes. I feel so lucky. I kind of feel like everything has just been leading me here, to this moment... with you. Mornings were made for better things

[ Door closes ]

Jack: What are you doing here at this hour?

Kyle: I need to talk to you about something.

Jack: Now?

Kyle: I'm sorry to interrupt. I didn't know sally would be here, but I wouldn't have come if it wasn't important.

Jack: Okay. What's wrong?

Sally: You know what? It is getting late, and, uh, if you two need to talk, I will give you guys some space.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa. No, no, no, no. You don't have to leave.

Sally: I had a very wonderful evening, and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

Jack: I think you know the answer to that, and you don't have to leave.

Sally: Next time, it is my turn to dazzle you.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Jack: Good night.

[ Door closes ] This better be good.

Kyle: What exactly did i interrupt?

Billy: So, abby and chance are having a baby.

Jill: I know! Isn't it exciting?

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Jill: But how come I know more than you do about what's going on with our family?

Billy: Well, I've been busy lately.

Jill: Yes, I know you have, which brings us to the question of what you wanted to discuss today. Oh, billy, please tell me you haven't already blown it with lily?

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Geez, mom. Thanks for the vote of confidence. No, I'm very happy to say that lily and I are great.

Jill: I knew there was something special between the two of you the second I paired you up to run chanccomm, an opportunity you very nearly blew. You nearly walked out. You remember?

Billy: I do. I was trying to wrap my mind around the fact that you were ambushing me.

Jill: Well, maybe now you'll start trusting my instincts, huh?

Billy: Oh, was it your plan all along to get us together?

Jill: No. When the right circumstances meet up with good timing, that's when the magic can happen.

Billy: Well, it's funny you should say that because I came across something that meets that criteria for chanccomm.

Jill: Are you about to ambush me now?

Billy: This isn't an ambush. This is an opportunity. I'm sure you've heard that ashland locke is looking to divest his media company -- cyaxares?

Jill: I have.

Billy: Well, when I first heard about this, I thought it was a good idea for chanccomm. And that was right around the same time that victor had the same idea.

Jill: Oh, no. This story doesn't end well.

Billy: We both know that i drive victor nuts on any day, but, uh, chanccomm taking over newman enterprises' media division definitely drove him nuts, and I think he's looking to get back us by acquiring cyaxares.

Jill: So, you want to beat victor at his own game, but you need my financial help because we both know he can outbid you without breaking a sweat.

Billy: Yeah, unfortunately that part is true.

Jill: So, what does lily think?

Billy: Well, lily knows that capital's a problem. She also knows that I'm talking to you about it.

Jill: [ Laughs ] Classical non-answer. Does lily want to do this?

Billy: Geez, mom, it's almost like you trust her more than you trust your own boy.

Jill: About this? I do. You and victor hate each other. I have to be sure that this is a rational decision rather than an emotional one. So, my boy, stop trying to play me and answer my question.

Adam: I've been reading up on the company and its history. And I am intrigued.

[ Cellphone ringing ] I think it has a lot of potential, so... victor. Hey.

Victor: I assume by now you had a chance to look over our proposal. Can we meet and discuss it?

Adam: Uh, well, the nurse is here, but it is getting late. I shouldn't be away from chelsea for too long.

Victor: This won't take time at all.

Adam: Alright. I won't be gone long. And I will fill you in on everything if you're still awake when I get home. You know, this could turn out to be something really great for us. Is this okay?

Chelsea: [ Thinking ] You're not doing this for us. You're doing it so you can stay with sharon. I'm not going to stand by and just let it happen.

Jack: I don't think I owe you any explanation about sally.

Kyle: I'm only asking because you two have been so vague about what's going on between you.

Jack: It is none of your business. I'm not gonna talk to you about this. Now, whatever it is you came all the way out here at this hour to tell me, let's hear it.

Kyle: You know what? I'm sorry. I shouldn't have come here. I apologize for interrupting your date.

Jack: What?!

Kyle: It's nothing. Forget it.

Jack: Why? Are you worried something you're gonna tell me is gonna get back to sally?

Sally: Summer. If you're looking for kyle, i just left him at jack's house.

Summer: Oh, no, I know where kyle is. Thank you. I'm just hoping that he didn't interrupt you and jack.

Sally: Not at all. Actually, we had a really great evening. It was everything that I hoped for and more.

Summer: Mm.

Sally: You know, sometimes I'm amazed how things have turned around for me since I've come to genoa city. You know, I'm starting to feel like I hit the jackpot on a quarter machine. The winnings just -- they just keep coming.

[ Chuckles ]

Summer: [ Chuckles ] Yeah, except for my job and for kyle.

Sally: Kyle is all yours. And I'm glad that you're at the helm of jcv, truly.

Summer: Okay.

Sally: [ Scoffs ] That job is perfect for you. And, honestly, I love what I'm doing now.

Summer: Okay, you can tone it down. Jack and lauren aren't in earshot.

Sally: I'm serious, okay? And one day, I hope that you'll be able to see that. Yes, it is true. We got off to a bad start, okay? But I meant what I said before. I really think that we might be able to wind up good friends. You know, if there's something that my life is missing these days, it's someone to share my good fortune with. And wouldn't it be crazy if that person was you?

Summer: Yeah, "crazy" is exactly the word that I was thinking.

Billy: I'm not trying to play you, mother, okay? So just let me pitch you the deal. Keep an open mind, and then you can decide if you think it's a good idea for us or not.

Jill: "Us" meaning you, me, and lily, who is not here?

Billy: Wow, you really think that her job is to save me from myself, don't you?

Jill: Well, honey, that seems to be what's happened since i gave you two the job, so yes.

Billy: Well, I am thankful for lily in more ways than I can count, so good job there. But let's stick to the point here, okay? Lily will come around if you step up, and I will remind you that you thought this was a good idea before.

Jill: Let me just warn you right off the bat here -- this cannot be rushed. And it has to be looked at from all different angles. It cannot be just about victor.

Billy: Trust me. It's not. I sent you reams of information about this company's performance. It's a good buy for anyone. It's great for chanccomm. It'll fold seamlessly into our operations.

Jill: So, you think you can ignore the personalities and the intangibles?

Billy: No. I don'T. That's gonna be in the mix. Look, mom, victor wants to destroy chanccomm. And he is plenty motivated. He is upset about the exposé about adam, and you know him. When he feels like he's been wronged or anyone in his family's been wronged, he really goes for it. So, we need to survive here. We need to fight fire with fire.

Jill: Okay. You're laying it on a little thick.

Billy: I'm trying to protect all of us. We can't lie down and let victor steamroll us.

Jill: Tell me something. Where does victoria fit into all of this? I thought that victor took a step back from newman. If he's gonna try and use the company to come after you and chanccomm, doesn't he need the current ceo's blessing?

Billy: Well, that's a good question, but the better question is -- would victor let a roadblock like this get in his way?

[ Knock on door ]

Lily: Oh. Victoria. Hi.

Victoria: Hi. I took a chance that you and billy might be burning the midnight oil.

Lily: Yeah. Uh, well, he's not here. Is this a personal or professional visit?

Victoria: I don't have a professional relationship with billy, so it must be personal.

Lily: Okay. Um...would you like to stay and wait? Or, um, I can pour you a drink? Alright, come on. Just stay and wait. I'm sure there are some things that the two of us can clear up.

Victoria: Scotch, neat.

Lily: Sure. Ugh, there's that cute guy from 12c.

Lily: So, um, it sounds like the kids are doing well. Billy told me that johnny's loving his art classes and katie started playing hockey?

Victoria: Yes, well, the art is much easier to handle than the hockey. I get scared to death every time she puts the skates on.

Lily: Yeah. I remember that feeling very well. Mattie and charlie are young adults now living halfway across the country, and I still worry about them. So, I'm sure that you and billy only talk about the kids, really, but has he ever mentioned this place? I mean, he's so proud of chanccomm.

Victoria: He seems to be. And I'm happy for him. This company is -- it's energized him. It's given him a new center.

Lily: Yes, the new and improved billy abbot. I wasn't sure what to expect of our partnership at first, and i don't think he was, either. But we're good at talking things through. If we're not what direction to take, we just talk it out until we can convince the other one or find a third way. It's all about balance, communication, and connection.

Victoria: Well, it's not an easy trick for two people on equal footing to run a company together. I'm sure you have a wonderful business relationship.

Lily: Oh, it's a wonderful relationship all around.

[ Chuckles ] That's what you meant, right?

Victoria: You said before that there were things that we probably needed to say, and i think you were right. I hope you don't take this the wrong way, but you shouldn't expect this to last.

Lily: Really? Why is that?

Victoria: Oh, you know billy. He can't thrive in comfort. He may be new and improved for now, but his restlessness is deeply, deeply embedded in his dna. He will always chafe at the status quo and find a way to up-end it. I mean, look, I take no pleasure I saying this to you. I've just learned my lesson the hard way, and I'm afraid that you're destined for the same hard lesson.

Lily: Well, I really appreciate your candor, but it's not really gonna scare me off.

Victoria: Oh, that's not what I'm trying to do.

Lily: Really? 'Cause I'm sure you're still hurting from when billy inevitably went back to his old ways when he was with you. And I've noticed that you've been finding ways to spend more time around him recently, so I'm just wondering if maybe you're drawn to him now because he's becoming the person that you wished he could have been when you two were together.

Victoria: You know, you might think that you know me, but you don'T. And you don't know what I feel or think about billy, either.

Lily: Okay. My mistake.

[ Laughs ]

Victoria: Yeah.

Lily: Well, looks like we said what we had to say, so I'm glad we cleared the air.

Victoria: Oh, me too.

Summer: You want us to be friends?

[ Scoffs ] Why? How? I mean, we both are holding grenades that could ruin the other person, and then we're taking turns threatening to pull the pin. So that doesn't really sound like any friendships that i know of.

Sally: I think it just proves how alike we actually are -- two strong women who know what we want and don't let anyone get in our way. I mean, could you imagine how powerful we could be if we ever teamed up?

Summer: You know, there's this service that I heard about in japan where you can rent a friend, so maybe you should look into that.

Sally: Wow. That was a little harsh. But I like that you say what you mean. Seriously. I don't want a fake friend. I want someone who is real, who tells me like it is, even when it isn't easy. I have my sister, but coco lives so far away.

Summer: You have a sister?

Sally: See? There is lots that you don't know about me -- and so much that I have to learn about you. And kyle.

Summer: Well, kyle and I have a lot of friends, so I don't think we really have any more room in our lives for another.

Sally: Gotcha. So, I guess that means you don't want to share a nightcap?

Summer: Mm, no, not really. But I will give you this -- you are very persistent. I'm pretty sure this conversation alone is gonna give me a hangover. So, good night.

Kyle: I'm not worried you would tell sally my personal business. I know I can confide in you about anything.

Jack: You can. I still don't understand why you came all the way out here not to tell me why. Is it because I won't tell you about my relationship with sally? Because, frankly, there is nothing to tell. The day will come where I can share all of this with you, but it's too soon. I don't want to over-analyze this. As far as what you came here to talk about...you can always talk to me.

Kyle: Thanks.

Jack: Kyle, if there's something you need to talk about, the floor is yours. Talk to me.

Kyle: You know, the bottom line is, there's really nothing to discuss. After I got here, I realized I'm more than capable of handling the issue myself.

Jack: What issue?

Kyle: Honestly, it's nothing. I'm fine. I'm sorry for interrupting your night.

Jack: Kyle. If you change your mind and you want to talk, I'm here for you.

Chelsea: [ Gasps ]

[ Breathing heavily ]

Adam: Well, I have to say, i have been reading up on the company and its possible sale. And I'm more and more intrigued by your offer.

Victor: Happy to hear that. Sit down. Now, do I sense a little hesitation in you?

Adam: Well, obviously my concern is chelsea. She has so far to go in her recovery still, and I'm determined to be by her side whether I am working or I'm not.

Victor: I assure you, you and I can find a way to work that out.

Adam: Okay. That's great. Thank you.

Victor: You're welcome. Anything else?

Adam: Does this just feel a little too easy?

Victor: [ Laughs ]

Adam: The two of us teaming up? I mean, I couldn't have imagined this not that long ago. Are we really gonna be able to bury the past and focus on the future?

Victor: Son... when I decide to do something, we'll do it. You and I will work together.

Billy: You're still here.

Lily: Yeah. I had some work to do, and i figured you would call me after you spoke to jill. And you seem excited.

Billy: I am.

Lily: Okay. So, chancellor's gonna subsidize our purchase of cyaxares. I'm surprised jill signed off on it.

Billy: She didn'T. She gave me a hard "no."
