Elena: Nate. Hey.

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Will you excuse me one minute?

[ Door closes ] Hey. I'm not running away. Just don't go anywhere.

Nick: Hey. Is phyllis in her office?

She's not here, but she left that envelope for you.

Nick: Alright. Thanks. Hi. This is nick newman regarding my delivery. The order hasn't changed, but the destination has.

[ Footsteps approaching ]

Rey: Hey.

Sharon: Hey. Uh, I'm glad you were able to sleep in. You worked so late. Are you hungry?

Rey: No, I'm good for now.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Sharon: Wonder who that could be.

Rey: I think I know.

[ Door closes ]

Sharon: Ooh. Wow, that looks... almost like my bridal bouquet.

Rey: [ Chuckles ] How about that?

Sharon: [ Sighs ] You must've ordered that awhile ago.

Rey: Yeah, I went to the florist at the beginning of the week. Wanted to hand-write the card.

Sharon: Should I still read it?

Rey: You absolutely should. When our daughter and her kids moved in with us...

Sharon: I know that we need to talk about what happened. And I very much want to resolve our issues involving him. But I was hoping we could just hold off a little while longer because I don't want him to be a part of this moment because this is about us, no one else.

Rey: I do appreciate that. But I think there's someone else who should be our priority right right now.

Elena: Hey. Sorry about that. I know that was weird, me ducking out on you as soon as i saw you. I just wasn't expecting to see you.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: But I'm glad I ran into you. How are you?

Nate: I'm doing alright. What about you?

Elena: I'm good. I've just been doing a lot of thinking, trying to figure out what I want. I hope you're still okay with being patient.

Nate: I didn't expect an answer overnight. I know it's complicated.

Elena: Thank you for understanding. Anyway, the reason why I ran away.

[ Chuckles ] So, when we were in manzanillo and you were checking us into the hotel, I went to the guest shop. And I had always expected to give you this on valentine's day, and even though things have changed, I still want you to have it.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: So I hope you'll accept it.

Lily: Okay, so, "what did the bee say to his sweetheart?" Um... "I am stung by your love."

Billy: Bzz! No.

Lily: What?!

Billy: Very good, but that's incorrect.

Lily: Alright, um... ooh -- "I am buzzzzing for joy."

Billy: Wow, that is, again, very good, but that is not -- not close. Try again.

Lily: Okay. [ Laughs ] Um... "'hive' got a crush on you"?

Billy: I'm actually really impressed, but that's not correct.

Lily: Okay. Come on. I can't think of any more bad puns.

Billy: Well, think of some good ones.

Lily: No. I've already tried three times!

Billy: Aw. Are you giving up?

Lily: Yes. Just tell me. What did the bee say to his sweetheart? I want to know.

Billy: What did the bee say to --

Victoria: Knock, knock.

Billy: Hi. What brings you by?

Victoria: Uh, special delivery from johnny and katie, made especially for their daddy on valentine's day.

Billy: Oh, well, that is very sweet, but you, uh -- you didn't have to come all this way.

Victoria: It was no trouble at all. Besides, I really didn't have much of a choice. They insisted that I deliver these asap. How was I supposed to refuse that? Ready to shine from the inside out?

Billy: Well, I think lily would like to have her office back, so I will go to my office to read these. And we'll get back to the riddle later.

Lily: No, no. Stay. Read them here.

Billy: Yeah?

Lily: Yeah. I think it's adorable they made you valentines. I'd love to hear what they wrote you.

Victoria: Well, they wouldn't let me read them before their daddy did, so it will be a surprise for me, as well.

Billy: You sure you can spare the time?

Victoria: For this? Yeah, absolutely.

Nate: [ Chuckles ]

Elena: When I saw it, I had to get it. I thought it would look great on you.

Nate: Thank you.

[ Chuckles ] It's totally my style.

Elena: I thought so.

[ Laughs ] Um, so, as long as we're both here, there's something I should tell you. I --

[ Door opens ]

Amanda: Hello, you two.

[ Chuckles ]

Nate: Amanda.

Elena: Good to see you.

Amanda: I was just saying hi. I don't want to interrupt the valentine's moment.

Nate: Uh, you weren'T. I assume you're grabbing a coffee before you dive back into work?

Amanda: Actually, I am meeting devon here.

Rey: Faith's drinking is weighing on you, as it should. I'm worried about it, too.

Sharon: I knew you are.

Rey: So, I think the best thing I can do right now is set aside my feelings about you and adam and focus on helping you deal with the anguish you're feeling about your daughter.

Sharon: Thank you. Yeah, we can revisit the subject of adam when faith isn't home.

Rey: Agreed.

Sharon: So, as for her situation, um... you know, I could use some of your insight and that strength I was talking about.

Rey: I'll do my best.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] You know, I just want my girl to be okay, but I feel like I've been a bad mother.

Rey: No, no, you're a wonderful mother. You just... you can't control everything that happens to faith or how she's gonna react to it. Faith's a great kid who's in a bad place. And from what I've observed, she doesn't know how to get herself out of that place. She's afraid if she's honest with you and nick, that you'll judge her. So she's being rebellious as a defense.

Sharon: You know, faith needs help. But she's got to want it. I can't force it. I wish that I could because things just keep getting worse, but her walls are up so high. It seems like everything I say to her lately just pushes her further away.

Rey: I remember when lola was that age, how intense those feelings are.

Sharon: A teenage girl's moods can be a powerful force.

Rey: I can't count all the times she would get upset with me when I was trying to help her. She told that I just -- I didn't understand, that I was talking at her, not with her. And at the time, I didn't think that was true, but that's how she perceived it.

Sharon: I wonder if that's what's going on with faith.

Rey: This may sound simplistic, but I think kids at that age just want to feel like they're being heard.

Sharon: That's not simplistic. That's true. You know, I was so distressed when faith was suspended from school, and then learning how badly she'd been bullied, I got completely caught up in trying to figure out a plan, a way to fix it all.

[ Sighs ] But I think next time I talk to faith, I want to remind her that we're on the same side and that I hear her and that I love her for who she is. That's all any of us wants, isn't it?

Rey: Yeah. It is.

Phyllis: Look at these flowers. Wow. I don't know where they came from.

Nick: I mean, I could have gone with the red roses. Seemed a little cliché, so i went with the exotic. You like?

Phyllis: I love. Cheers.

Nick: Thank you. What is up with this place? One of the busiest restaurant days of the year, and it's a ghost town.

Phyllis: Well, somebody may have reserved, uh, the entire restaurant for a vip dinner for two, so it's just the two of us. We get to enjoy the valentine's night dinner at society all alone.

Nick: Okay.

Phyllis: I have a confession to make.

Nick: Oh, boy. What'd you do?

Phyllis: Well, you actually reserved the room.

Nick: Did I? How'd I do that?

Phyllis: Well, I may have called the manager and pretended like I was your assistant and -- but listen, I knew that abby would never sign off on it if i called. So, cheers.

[ Laughs ]

Nick: Cheers.

Phyllis: Happy valentine's day. Here's to the magic that this night has to offer.

Nick: [ Inhales sharply ]

Phyllis: Huh. Interesting. Interesting. Is that a bad toast? I mean, is it not going to be magical?

Nick: It's -- sorry. Uh... sorry to be a downer.

Phyllis: It's okay. You're not. Are you mad that I made this reservation?

Nick: No. No. It'S...something much bigger. Need a nice reward today?

Billy: "Happy valentine's day to the best dad ever. Love, johnny."

Lily: Aww.

Billy: Aww.

Lily: So cute.

Victoria: Now read katie'S.

Billy: Katie'S. Okay. What's katie have to say? "Daddy, love you lots. X-oh, x-oh, katie."

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Very nice.

Victoria: They're a lot like the ones the kids gave me at breakfast.

Billy: There's one more in here.

Victoria: Oh, there's another card?

Billy: Wow. It's very sweet.

Lily: [ Gasps ]

Billy: That is for you.

Lily: What? Aww! Katie made me a valentine's day card?

Victoria: I had no idea, but I'm not surprised. Our kids are very thoughtful.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] "Happy valentine's day to daddy's new best girlfriend. From your favorite kids, johnny and katie." Aww.

Billy: You won their hearts.

Lily: Yeah.

Billy: See what I did there?

Lily: [ Chuckles ] So cute.

[ Cellphone ringing ] It's hannah. Excuse me. Hi, hannah. What's up? I'll be right there. Uh, katie fell on some ice, and she -- she hurt her arm, so I'm gonna go home and check on her.

Billy: I'll be right behind you.

Lily: Well, I hope she's okay. Keep me posted.

Billy: I will.

Lily: Okay.

Amanda: Well, um, nate told me how lovely the beach was in manzanillo. What I would give to be there right now, just soaking up the sun.

Elena: It was gorgeous, alright.

Nate: Certainly worth checking out when you get a chance.

[ Door opens ]

Devon: Is this where the party's at?

Nate: Devon.

Devon: Hey.

Nate: How's it going?

Devon: Ladies.

Amanda: Hi there.

Devon: Hey.

Elena: You look well.

Devon: Thanks. So do you.

Elena: Thanks.

Devon: Thank you. So, what's -- what's, uh, happening, guys? You guys have plans for valentine's day together?

Elena: Uh, no. I have to work.

Nate: Me too.

Amanda: Okay, so -- well, since you're both working, i think devon and I should let you two enjoy your downtime. Do you want to grab some seats on the patio?

Devon: That sounds like a wonderful idea, yeah.

Amanda: Okay.

Devon: Alright. See you guys.

Sharon: First tooth.

Rey: Cute. First day of school.

Rey: [ Chuckles ]

Sharon: Oh, and this was taken when she got her first pony. It was a gift from her grandparents.

Rey: Ah, the famous patches.

Sharon: Yeah. Victor and nikki always loved riding, and of course they hoped faith would, too. And she did. I guess it must run in the newman blood.

Rey: I see.

Sharon: You know, she loved that horse from the day she got him, and she was always so happy and carefree when she went riding. And then she got a little bit older and the day came for her to make her first jump and I was so nervous.

Rey: Yeah, I'll bet.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] You know, I tried to talk her out of it. I asked her, "let's just wait a little while longer," because in my eyes, faith was still so small and I could just envision her breaking something or a lot of somethings. But nothing could shake her resolve. She said to me, "trust me, mom. I know what I'm doing." So I watched her. She was very confident in the saddle. And as patches made that jump and then landed, I was just... full of pride.

Rey: Then what happened?

Sharon: [ Voice breaking ] Well, she -- she trotted her horse over to me, and I said, "congratulations. And how did it feel?" And she said to me, just like this, "piece. Of. Cake."

Rey: [ Laughs ]

Sharon: "Nothing to worry about, mom."

[ Both laugh ] Your dry skin story changes

Nate: You were about to, uh, tell me something before amanda showed up.

Elena: Yeah. I was going to tell you that i ran into devon and I told him about our trip. So he knows that you know about our one night together, and i told him that I was taking the time to think things through.

Nate: I see.

Elena: Yeah, I figured i should just be up front from now on. I've already caused enough damage keeping things from you and devon, and I don't want to keep making the same mistakes over and over again. I mean, I already feel guilty as it is, and I'm so angry at myself.

Nate: Beating yourself up doesn't solve anything.

Elena: You're right.

Nate: I appreciate you telling me about your talk with devon...although it's obvious amanda doesn't know, given how close they've gotten.

Elena: Yeah, but, I mean, don't you think that's devon's call? I mean, he obviously cares about her and wants to move forward with her. So I don't see the point of undermining their relationship when it's just the beginning.

Nate: Understood. Since we both have a shift at memorial, might as well ride together.

Elena: I'd like that.

Nate: Let's go.

Amanda: The tension between those two -- you can cut it with a knife. And I ran into nate yesterday, asked him about their trip.

Devon: Yeah?

Amanda: He just -- he wasn't himself. He didn't even mention elena.

Devon: Ah.

Amanda: I didn't think too much of it at the time, but now I am sure that there is something off about those two. And I suspect that I know what it is.

Devon: You do, huh?

Amanda: It's hard starting a relationship with all of that baggage. Maybe they thought that they could get through it together, but now they're butting up against reality.

Devon: Well, that makes a lot of sense. I mean, it's possible.

Amanda: And I'm speaking from experience. I have been there, I have done that, and I have no intention of doing it again, which is why i am so glad that we spent so much time getting to know each other before we took the next step. Now we don't have to get bogged down in the past. We can just enjoy the moment.

Devon: I very much like the sound of that. But, uh, I remember that you said that you wanted to keep valentine's day low-key. But I thought that, uh, we could still indulge ourselves in a little celebration.

Amanda: Mm, well, i wholeheartedly agree.

Devon: What is that?

[ Both laugh ]

Amanda: There you go.

Devon: Thank you.

Amanda: Thank you.

Victoria: Thank goodness it was just a bruise and nothing was broken.

Billy: Yeah, well, ice is hard. Katie's lucky.

Victoria: She seemed more shaken up about falling than her arm being hurt.

Billy: Crisis averted. I'm gonna take off.

Victoria: I'm sorry about interrupting your cute little valentine thing with lily. That looked like quite a box of chocolates.

Billy: Mm. Yeah, I wonder if that's true.

Victoria: Excuse me?

Billy: If you are actually sorry.

Victoria: I don't -- I don't know what you mean.

Billy: Well, there's a part of me that feels that maybe deep down you're not really thrilled that I'm moving on and that you actually don't really want me to experience joy ever again.

Victoria: That is ridiculous. Why would I not want you to have the best possible life?

Billy: Karmic payback? Maybe I don't deserve good after all the hurtful things I did to you?

Victoria: Nothing could be further from the truth.

Billy: Okay, good. Well, I'm glad to hear that... because the truth is, I am happier with lily, happier than I've been in a long time.

Victoria: I'm happy for you, billy. I really am. You should probably get going. It's bad form to keep her waiting on a romantic holiday.

Billy: Tell katie I'll call her later to check up on her. I'll see you soon.

Phyllis: Alcohol in her locker. That is, um, hard-core.

Nick: Yeah. The school had no choice but to suspend her.

Phyllis: Well, listen, if there's anything I can do to help the situation, just ask me. I'm here for you.

Nick: Means a lot that you're offering. And if I can think of a way you can help, I will not hesitate to ask.

Phyllis: Good.

Nick: I mean, just talking about it, I already feel better.

Phyllis: You're breathing easier.

Nick: Yeah. I think I'm officially ready to begin our date and enjoy it.

Phyllis: Okay, good to hear.

Nick: So, you worked very hard on this. I want to make sure we don't waste your efforts. What's on the agenda?

Phyllis: Well, you know what they say about romance.

Nick: Who's "they"?

Phyllis: They say... it begins with dance. Do you want to dance with me?

Nick: There is nothing I want to do more than to take you in my arms and sweep you off your feet. Happy valentine's day, phyllis.

Phyllis: Happy valentine's day, nick. Psst! Psst!

Lily: Mm.

[ Door opens ]

Billy: Katie's gonna be okay.

Lily: Oh, good. How's her arm?

Billy: A little bruised, but she's gonna be alright.

Lily: Well, I'm sure you're relieved.

Billy: I am. Now we can pick up where we left off.

Lily: Mnh, no.

Billy: What do you mean, "no"?

Lily: Well, the riddle can wait. I want you to open your present.

Billy: Yes, ma'am.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Ooh.

[ Paper tearing ] Really? My favorite single-malt scotch. "Aged 25 years." Have you tried this?

Lily: No, not that brand, but I heard it's supposed to be really good.

Billy: Good? It's the best of the best. I mean, you really outdid yourself.

Lily: Aww. I'm glad you like it.

Billy: We're gonna crack this open right now, we're gonna pour us a little sip, and then we're gonna enjoy some chocolate with it.

Lily: Oh, that's an interesting combination.

Billy: Oh, yeah, it is going to be sublime. You are in for a treat.

Lily: [ Chuckles ] Y-you don't have to share it, you know.

Billy: Oh, I insist. It's sinfully good, just like everything we do.

Lily: [ Laughs ]

[ Cork pops ]

Billy: Madame.

Lily: Ooh. Thank you. I'll wait for you to cheers.

Billy: Happy valentine's day.

Lily: Happy valentine's day.

Billy: Mm.

Nick: That was the best red snapper I've ever had.

Phyllis: I have something else for you.

Nick: You spoil me.

Phyllis: This is for you.

Nick: [ Exhales sharply ] No way!

Phyllis: Yes! It's loaded with "prime aggression 6"!

Nick: "Prime aggression 6"?!

Phyllis: "6"!

Nick: Oh, you know me so well!

Phyllis: I thought we could play it together. But then...ohh, the right thing to do would be to wait. Maybe you could play it with faith, you know, like a father/daughter thing together.

Nick: That's very generous of you. You're trying to give me a head start.

Phyllis: Yeah, well, you need a head start. I mean, we both know that. But I just figured it'd be fun for you and faith, you know, do something fun, not just heavy conversation all the time.

Nick: Thank you for thinking of her.

Phyllis: You're welcome. Um, there's also something else I have for you.

Nick: Oh, is there?

Phyllis: Yeah. For you.

Nick: For me?

Phyllis: Yeah.

Nick: Oh, yeah.

Phyllis: It's for you. Ooh. Ooh. Oh, my goodness. And these.

Nick: Well -- I'm gonna need to see you in these as fast as humanly possible.

Phyllis: Let's go.

[ Lid slams ]

Devon: Alright.

Amanda: So, hot chocolates

and two red velvet cupcakes.

Devon: Well, you said you couldn't decide, and we agreed to indulge ourselves, so, you know... I can change the order if you'd like.

Amanda: Oh, don't you dare.

[ Both laugh ] But while we're waiting, why don't you open the envelope I gave you?

Devon: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. That's what I was gonna do. Let's see.

[ Chuckling ] Wow. A massage at the grand phoenix spa.

Amanda: Whatever kind your heart desires.

Devon: I really don't know what to say.

Amanda: Was it more than you expected? Was it less? 'Cause it was a little tricky trying to pick the right gift.

Devon: No. You have no idea how perfect it is, and thank you very, very much. But please open yours now.

Amanda: Okay.

[ Both chuckle ] Wow.

Devon: [ Laughs ]

Amanda: Oh, my gosh.

Devon: Yeah.

Amanda: A massage at the grand phoenix spa.

Devon: Yeah. Whatever kind that your heart desires.

[ Both laugh ]

Amanda: Great minds.

Devon: Right?

Amanda: You know, we could combine our gift and get a couples massage.

Devon: Oh, hey, now. That's the best idea you've had all night.

Amanda: It's settled then.

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Amanda: So, is there, um, anything else you want to talk about before our order arrives? Because once it gets here, I am gonna be all over that deliciousness.

Devon: Is that right?

[ Chuckles ] Um...what's been going on? I, uh... I had a very interesting conversation with mariah yesterday.

Amanda: Oh, really? What about?

Devon: About abby and chance. They're looking to start a family soon, uh, but because of some various medical issues, they're being forced to be creative on how they go about it.

Amanda: That must be a very difficult situation for them.

Devon: But they do have a plan. They're gonna take abby's egg -- and then mariah is actually gonna be their surrogate -- and then find a sperm donor.

Amanda: Wow. That's great for them. I -- I am wondering why you're telling me all of this, though. It seems very personal.

Devon: You asked me what was on my mind, and -- I don't know -- I've been -- been thinking a lot about it.

Amanda: About what? Starting your own family?

Devon: Yeah, no, I know why your mind would go there, but I'm not looking to start a family of my own anytime soon. I'm just thinking of chance and abby.

Amanda: I know that you and abby are very close.

Devon: Yeah, yeah, we are, and mariah was talking about how happy they are to have someone they know as their surrogate, but also how nervous and how concerned they are to have to use an anonymous donor. And especially with chance out of town -- he's on an assignment right now, so abby's being forced to make all these tough decisions on her own.

Amanda: Yeah, I can see how it would take some time for them to wrap their heads around the idea. But if having a baby means that much to them, they'll get there. They'll figure it out.

Devon: Oh, for sure, yeah. I know they will. In the end, they're gonna have a new little son or daughter, and that's all that matters.

Amanda: Yeah, and given the effort that they're going through, I bet that they are gonna just shower that child with so much love.

Devon: Yeah, without a doubt. I just can't help but feel bad that, you know, they've been through a lot. They've got a lot of setbacks and a lot of bad news. And I just feel like they need all the help and support right now they can get.

Amanda: You are just... you're such a good friend, devon.

Devon: I really do care about all three of them. And -- and I'm just, you know, beyond impressed with how mariah's stepping up in such a selfless way. I just wish that there was something that I could do to help them out myself, you know?

Sharon: Thank you for listening to me reminisce.

Rey: I enjoyed it. It was good to learn more about faith. There's still so many stories i haven't heard.

Sharon: My brain is so scrambled right now. I -- I don't know what to do or say next.

Rey: Why don't you go for a walk? You clear your head. I'll heat up some cider for when you get back.

Sharon: You're taking care of me again.

Rey: You're going through a rough time. And I'm your husband.

Sharon: [ Voice breaking ] Um, you know what? I'm just gonna go check on faith before I go outside. Um, she's been quiet upstairs for a while. Oh. Faith left me a card.

Rey: What's it say?

Faith: "Even when we fight, you're always there for me. I don't know where I'd be without you. I love you, mom."

Rey: Sharon?

Sharon: [ Sniffles ]

Rey: What's wrong? Is everything okay?

Sharon: [ Crying ] No, it's -- it's just what she wrote. It's what I needed to hear her tell me.

[ Cellphone vibrates ]

Lily: Wow. Dark chocolate and scotch. Who would have thought?

Billy: Brings out the best in each other.

Lily: That's actually really amazing.

Billy: I tell you, girlfriend, I aim to please.

Lily: Oh, if that's true, there's something else that would bring me great pleasure.

Billy: Oh, please tell me.

Lily: I want to know the answer to the riddle.

[ Both laugh ] What did the bee say to his sweetheart? Tell me.

Billy: "I love bee-ing with you, honey."

Lily: Oh.

Billy: [ Laughs ]

Lily: Mine was better.

Billy: Oh, really? Yeah, it's a little bit lame. It's a little bit corny. But I love it. Yeah, my dad used to tell me that when I was a kid. He knew that it cracked me up.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Even as I got older, he would tell me every once in a while when he knew I needed a pick-me-up. It would always make me smile. Hmm. Wow. Yeah, it really reminds me of him. I miss him. He was a good man.

Lily: He was. I loved john abbott. He was a great human being.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Lily: My mom loved him, too, and my aunt mamie. My family loved him.

Billy: Yeah, he had that effect on people.

Lily: Well, you, william foster abbott, are becoming more and more like your dad every day in all the best ways.

Billy: That is the nicest thing anyone's ever said to me.

Lily: It's true. And there's something else you should know. So, awhile ago, you told me how you felt about me. And I wasn't ready to tell you then, but I am now. I'm falling in love with you, too.
