Episode #12040 ~ Jack receives an unexpected guest. Billy and Victoria experience deja vu.

Provided By Suzanne

Abby: It is really coming down out there.

Chance: I made us a snack.

Abby: Yum!

Chance: What are you looking at?

Abby: My weather app -- there's a warning that the storm could knock out the power.

Chance: Where are the candles?

Abby: Mr. Prepared.

[ Doorbell rings ]

Mariah: I was in the neighborhood?

Elena: So, how long will it take to bring someone out? Really? That long?

[ Sighs ] Okay, yeah, just keep me on the list. Thanks.

[ Sighs ]

Devon: Bad news?

Elena: Yeah, all of the tow trucks are in use. They're helping people who skidded on the icy roads.

Devon: Yikes. Well, uh, I want to apologize for making you feel so uncomfortable, asking that question earlier.

Elena: No, no, you -- you didn't do anything.

Devon: I did. I know I did, 'cause you couldn't get out of here fast enough when I asked if there were feelings between you and nate before what happened at the clinic. I just think that if you're serious about us being friends, it's gonna make things a lot easier for me if I have a better understanding of what happened between us and why. So, are you willing to level with me?

Sally: I didn't expect such a feast.

Jack: Mrs. Martinez is an incredible cook.

Sally: Yeah, I'll say. And it was very sweet of you to share your dinner with me.

Jack: Oh, it was my pleasure. It's a whole lot better than eating alone with only the quarterly report to amuse me.

Sally: Yeah, well, still, i just came by to drop off those papers from lauren. I did not mean to impose on your hospitality.

Jack: You didn't impose. This is something I would do for anyone stranded in a storm.

Sally: Good to know.

Jack: I actually appreciate the company.

Summer: Boom! Gin!

Kyle: No! Again?

Summer: Victory is mine! You know what that means, don't you?

Kyle: I have to raid the vending machine and bring back all your favorites.

Summer: Without using your hands.

Kyle: Oh, I was hoping you had forgotten that part.

Summer: You think I'd let a brag like that go untested? Dream on!

Kyle: Okay, look. I lied. I've never done it. I don't even know if it's physically possible.

Summer: Okay, well, lucky for you, you're in very good shape, and you're very limber.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Billy: Do you hear that? It's quiet.

Victoria: Yeah, now it's quiet, when neither one of us is trying to get any work done.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Well, snow days are for getting rowdy.

Victoria: I'm glad that you decided to hang out here instead of going to chanccomm. The kids were kind of bummed when my trip got canceled, and they heard they weren't gonna be hanging out with their dad.

Billy: Yeah, it was a nice change of pace from the office.

Victoria: Oh, I forgot to tell you. Johnny and katie brought their report cards home yesterday. They're on the table, right back there.

Billy: This here?

Victoria: Yeah.

[ Laughs ]

Billy: B-plus in math? Wow! Johnny really kicked it up a notch, didn't he?

Victoria: I know! I'm so proud of him. And look at what the teacher wrote in general comments.

Billy: "Johnny is quick to volunteer when there's a task that needs to be done. And he's turning into a real charmer." Ooh, johnny.

[ Laughs ]

Victoria: Can I just say thank you?

Billy: What laudable thing did I do this time?

Victoria: Just...for continuing to show up for the kids, so the four of us can spend time together as a family, even though our lives have gone in different directions.

Billy: Hmm.

Victoria: You know, sometimes I...I wonder.

Billy: Wonder what?

Victoria: How we got to this place. Alright, I brought in ensure max protein

provided by...

Billy: Yeah. It's kind of amazing when you think of all the things we've been through together. Scratch that, actually -- all the things that I put you through, because that is a lot more accurate.

Victoria: I've screwed up plenty myself.

Billy: Yeah, but when you promise something, you actually follow through. I mean, you can take that to the bank. With me, it's a crapshoot, literally.

Victoria: Ah...your gambling.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I hurt you. So many times, I caused you danger. I did things that I'll regret till the day I die. So, don't give me a free pass for being a jackass.

Victoria: Everything that you just said is the way I framed it for myself, you know, that our failure as a couple was mostly your fault.

Billy: And you're right.

Victoria: That's too simplistic. I've thought about it a lot, and I was the other half of all of our problems all along. I mean, I had my own baggage, being a newman and everything that comes with it. I had a lot of unreasonable expectations of you. I mean, who would blame you for wanting an escape?

Billy: No, an escape is going to the abbott cabin for the weekend. You know, I always took it too far. I drank. I gambled. I cheated on you. I disappeared on you... multiple times.

Victoria: We had some happy times, too. There were times when I thought we finally got it right.

Billy: [ Sighs ] I'm sorry. I really am. I mean, I put you through the wringer, and I, uh, I'm just really sorry.

Chance: You really shouldn't be running around in this ice storm.

Mariah: It wasn't this crazy before I left.

Abby: Not that we aren't glad to see you.

Mariah: I'm not here to say yes to being your surrogate. But I'm not saying no, either. I-I just want to talk, get some more information. I wanted to say that up front because I know there are all these hopes, and I show up here suddenly, unannounced.

Abby: We understand, really.

Chance: It's a big decision.

Abby: Huge, and I would love to answer every one of your questions.

Mariah: Good, because I have a bunch.

Summer: Oh! Oh!

[ Both laugh ]

Kyle: Eh, do you have any more pretzels?

Summer: Mm...mnh-mnh. Plenty more where those came from!

Kyle: Ha-ha! No way! I might be in traction if your no-hands rule still applies.

Summer: I don't know, babe. I think you showed that vending machine who was boss, and you put some of your finer assets on display.

Kyle: It's nice to be appreciated.

Summer: Oh, you are. Never doubt that.

[ Laughs ]

Kyle: My turn to pick the next game?

Summer: Mm-hmm. I think so.

Kyle: I call...quiet game. First person who makes a noise loses.

Summer: Game on.

[ Gasps ]

Kyle: Whoo! I win.

Sally: [ Exhales ] Oh!

Jack: How are things out there?

Sally: Oh, my god. My car is covered in icicles. But it is beautiful. But if we don't find a way to get them off, I don't know if i can leave.

Jack: I'd never let you drive in these conditions, anyway.

Sally: Okay, so, you don't mind if I stay a little bit longer.

Jack: While you were outside, I checked the weather report. This storm is gonna be with us all night. We have a guest room upstairs. It's already been made up. I think it's yours for the night. In the meantime, can I get you a throw blanket or a drink to take the chill off?

Sally: Now that you mention it, a drink would be nice.

Jack: Coming right up. The new myww+

Kyle: We should get stuck in the office overnight more often.

Summer: Ooh, I'm game.

Kyle: Where did you find this bottle of wine?

Summer: Uh, it was a farewell gift from the marketing department when I left to run jcv.

Kyle: Oh, I know you've been having a blast over there.

Summer: Yeah, the work is fun, and so is fending off certain poseurs when they walk in and try to steal my gig.

Kyle: Ah, speaking of sally --

Summer: Oh, do we have to?

Kyle: Well, you brought her up.

Summer: Yeah, only because digging up all that dirt on her in L.A. Was just so satisfying.

Kyle: Were you, by any chance, listening to what I said before?

Summer: Which part?

Kyle: The part about I can't help but wondering if holding the woman's past over her head is the wisest idea.

Summer: It's the best way to keep her in check. I don't know.

Kyle: Or will it just make her that much more determined to undermine you?

Summer: You know, I don't think that sally can afford that kind of mistake, right? She's new. She's still trying to prove herself. And she's alone. So, she's working without a net. I think that her chances of taking my job are about the same as her taking my man.

Kyle: As in zero.

Summer: Mm-hmm!

Sally: I haven't been able to relax like this in... I don't even know how long.

Jack: You work hard. You need to recharge your batteries now and then.

Sally: I'm gonna take that as sound professional advice.

Jack: [ Chuckles ] So, how did you get into fashion? I mean, after the christmas-pageant costume made you realize you had a talent?

Sally: Well...it wasn't because of family ties. My folks weren't remotely connected to the industry.

Jack: What do your parents do, if you don't mind my asking?

Sally: They were carnies. Yep. You heard right. My mom and pop were carnival workers -- the whole colorful, bohemian, nomadic life.

Jack: Well, that had to make for a very interesting childhood.

Sally: Yeah. Well, they, um, abandoned my sister and me when we were very young. My grams raised us. And it left a hole in my heart that I haven't quite been able to fill.

Jack: I'm sorry to hear that.

Sally: Made me tougher. I learned to fight and scrap for everything I wanted and everything I have. And then I took my great aunt sally -- the original -- as an inspiration, and I tried to follow in her footsteps. And I rubbed some people the wrong way in the process, people who really didn't think i belonged in the fashion industry.

Jack: But you proved them wrong.

Sally: There's a lot more i intend to do.

Jack: I'm betting you're gonna be successful.

Sally: Well, that's the plan. So, now it's your turn to tell me your life story.

Jack: Ooh! How long do you have?

Sally: Well, all night, apparently.

Mariah: So, if I were to come on board, what would be the first step?

Abby: Well, um, you would go to the doctor, and she would do a complete work-up, make sure that you're able to carry a pregnancy full-term. And then she'd look over all your medical records. And then, at that appointment, she would go more into detail about the whole process.

Mariah: About how many doctors' visits is this gonna entail, because I just started this great job at jabot, and I'm gonna have meetings and whatnot.

Abby: We can work around your schedule. It shouldn't be an issue.

Chance: The world's basically gonna revolve around you.

Abby: Do you think you could go and get us something warm to drink?

Chance: Absolutely. Mariah, would you like anything?

Mariah: Uh, yeah, just some tea, any kind. I'm not picky.

Chance: Alright. Coming right up.

Mariah: Do you want to know what my biggest concern is?

Abby: Tell me.

Mariah: What will happen if i agree to this... and it doesn't work? Mornings were made for better things

Abby: Honestly, I don't know what I'll do if surrogacy fails. But not trying, not giving ourselves a chance to make our dream a reality? It isn't an option. It would break my heart.

Mariah: I'm trying to find a way to put this, because I-i don't want to be insensitive.

Abby: Please, just say it. Whatever it is, I'm an open book.

Mariah: Why are you trying to have a baby right now? I mean, you just got married to chance.

Abby: Yes, a lot of couples like to settle into marriage before starting a family, but it's different for chance and me. When we were still dating, he was the one who brought up the idea of starting a family. But when he saw the expression on my face, he was worried that he was scaring me away.

Mariah: I remember we talked, and you were so shocked, concerned if you would be a good mother orot.

Abby: I wasn't even concerned. I think just in that moment, i realized that he was the guy. And I had to let that sink in.

Mariah: Giving me goose bumps.

Abby: Chance and I, we can still have a family. We can still make our dreams come true. It just... it's gonna look a little different than we first imagined. And we're okay with that.

Mariah: I'm thrilled for you. I really am. I just never thought that i would be a part of your new vision for your family.

Abby: Yesterday, I saw this mom with her baby, and the baby was all bundled up, and she was keeping it warm from the cold. And...I had to stop myself from crying. I just...have this visceral longing, and I can't even put it into words. Just like I can't put into words what it would mean to me for you to be the one to make our beautiful dream a reality.

Elena: I don't see the point of rehashing all of this. We had a clean break, and i think we both moved on.

Devon: And that's why I feel like we can have a conversation like this, because we're both in a better place. And I just want to get everything out in the open, so i can deal with what went wrong and put it behind me. I just need to make more sense of why I didn't see any signs leading up to it, because, you know, I've been replaying our relationship in my mind, trying to pinpoint the moment where things changed, and i can't find it. Even the last day we were together, it seemed like everything was okay. So, I would just like for you to tell me when you knew that you wanted to be with nate and not me.

Elena: It wasn't like that.

Devon: What was it like? I mean, did you...did you just, your bond grow the more time you spent working together at the hospital and the clinic? Because if that's the case, there must have been a moment where you knew how you felt, and you said something to him, no?

Elena: No. I wasn't conflicted. I wasn't hiding my feelings for some other guy. I loved you. I loved being with you. I wasn't trying to figure out a way out of this relationship.

Devon: So, this is just -- has everything to do with all the emotions from coming down from saving jared's life is what you're saying?

Elena: Okay. If you really want to try to understand what went wrong with us... you're gonna have to be honest, too.

Victoria: You make it sound like it was a lost cause from the beginning.

Billy: No, no, that's not at all what I mean. I just -- I know that I caused you a lot of pain with my crappy, immature behavior.

Victoria: If you're gonna apologize again, don'T. Please.

Billy: Okay. Well, then, allow me to say thank you instead.

Victoria: For what, exactly?

Billy: New year's eve, a few years ago, when you found me drunk in the gutter, freezing. You brought me home. You saved my life. And, in a way, you did it again when you decided that you couldn't put up with it anymore.

Victoria: Is that how you really see it?

Billy: I mean, the last few years, I gave a pretty convincing performance that i was someone that was getting it together, a guy that was, you know, putting my life back together. And I convinced a lot of people that that was true, including myself. But not you. No, you could see that I was faking it, and you held my feet to the fire. You decided you didn't want to do it anymore. And that was a shock to the system. But it was one that I needed. It forced me to take stock of the changes that I needed to make in my life, to grow the hell up, to finally be the man that I was pretending to be, to value the things that I have, and to keep my priorities straight. I'm a work in progress, and I'm still gonna make mistakes. But I like this guy.

Victoria: I knew you had it in you. Looks good on you.

Billy: And look at you. Running newman enterprises, the powerhouse leader that I always knew you were. Not only that, you continue to be an amazing mother to our kids.

Victoria: Thank you. That's sweet.

Billy: What about you? You ever think you'll get out there again, find a man that actually deserves you?

Victoria: [ Chuckles ] I don't know. I mean, I'm very busy. Like you said, I have a lot going on... happily so. I'm sure at some point I'll start dating again.

Billy: Good. I'm glad to hear that.

Victoria: What about you? How serious are things with lily?

Find your rhythm.

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Billy: Well, you know, you get to a certain age. I mean, how casual can you be about romance, right? You're not a kid anymore. You understand what it takes to be in an adult relationship and what you will tolerate and what's at stake when you get emotionally involved with another person.

Victoria: In other words, things are pretty serious between you two.

Billy: I understand how that might make you feel uneasy, bringing a new woman into the kids' lives. But I want you to know that lily and I both agree that we're gonna take this slow.

Victoria: There's something else that I've been wondering.

[ Thud ]

Billy: Uh-oh.

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Billy: We should probably check what that is.

Devon: Listen. If I did anything to help cause this breakup or to push you that far away from me, then please tell me.

Elena: [ Sighs ] I wasn't the only woman in your thoughts at the time. You were consumed with amanda's issues, and I could see where it was heading, even then.

Devon: She found out that she had a twin who died that I was married to. And, like I said before, I felt obligated to share everything i knew about hilary with her. That's all it was.

Elena: You admitted how liberating it was for you to immerse yourself into those memories in front of an eager audience... in front of the woman who looked exactly like your late wife!

Devon: I know she does, but they're two different people. Right? When I look at amanda, I don't see hilary.

Elena: Maybe not now, but then, there was definitely something going on, whether or not you wanted to admit it to yourself. Otherwise, you wouldn't have felt the need to hide it from me.

Devon: I didn't feel the need to hide something from you because there was something going on between me and amanda. It was because I knew how just simply being around her was making you feel some kind of way.

Elena: You knew that I felt insecure, and you looked me in the eyes, and you told me that you weren't going to see her anymore. And then you turned around and went back on your word. The bond that was building between you and amanda, I was not imagining it. Just like I'm not imagining how close the two of you are now.

Devon: I mean, I'M... I'm not gonna argue that.

Elena: I'm not blaming you, devon. I'm not. You didn't drive me to sleep with nate. I'm responsible for my own actions. I'm just telling you where my head was at. I'm showing you what you didn't see. I felt like I was competing with the love of your life and her twin, and I was losing! I didn't fall into nate's arms because I was trying to get some sort of revenge! But that night... I felt wanted... needed in some way. And you hadn't made me feel that way in a long time. It's very common to have both

Elena: None of this is news to you. I've said all of this more than once. I told you how much I regretted what happened with nate. I told you what a mistake it was. But none of that changed how you felt. Just like everything I've just said now isn't going to change the way things are.

Devon: It does change things. I want to be honest with you. I want to be honest with you like you've been with me. I know I can't stand here and deny that sharing those stories with amanda didn't get me caught up in reliving what I had with hilary. And yeah, her resemblance, it made things more intense. How could it not? I obviously made a lot of mistakes. The biggest one was not listening to you, though. You told me your fears of me spending time with her, and i dismissed them, and I thought you were overreacting. And I shouldn't have done that. I should have showed you how much I loved you and cherished you. I got swept up in my past. I got swept up, and it made me neglect my present. It made me neglect the amazing, beautiful, caring woman that i have right in front of me, and i know you didn't deserve any of it.

Summer: You know, I don't agree with your assessment.

Kyle: Hmm?

Summer: About the sally situation.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] How did we go from talking about the storm back to sally?

Summer: When I confronted her about it, she tried to hide it, but I know that she was freaking out. She knows exactly what would happen if the worst parts of her past came out.

Kyle: I'll defer to your judgment.

Summer: You know, I think that there's an upside to having everyone know all the stupid stuff we've done. That way, no one can try to blackmail us. Right?

Kyle: Right!

Summer: Well, too bad sally just isn't that lucky.

Jack: I was 14 when my mother left. But I spent most of my childhood in a stable home with a mother and father still married to each other, and that kind of stability made for opportunities that you didn't have. Or kyle, for that matter, which I guess makes me appreciate all the more what you two have accomplished.

Sally: Well, I can see where kyle gets his work ethic.

Jack: No, he got that from his mother every bit as much as me. Diane was...diane was a successful architect, a damn good one.

Sally: So, he had two successful parents. Interesting. But still, a guy in kyle's position, financially, I mean, normally wouldn't be as responsible.

Jack: I've always admired his strength mixed with kindness. Not that there haven't been a few challenges along the way, a few lapses in judgment here and there.

Sally: Somehow, I can't imagine kyle's lapses being anything close to mine.

Jack: Oh, I wouldn't be so sure. Kyle spent a few years in new york at jabot, just before he came back to town and settled in. He and theo apparently had some pretty wild days. I'm glad he's put that behind him by now.

Abby: I hope what I just said didn't feel like...

Mariah: Pressure? No. No, no, no. It didn'T. You were just being...open and honest with me, just like i asked. And hey, if I do this, it's not like there's gonna be that many secrets left between us. So...

Abby: That's true. Hey, the roads are a mess. You shouldn't leave. Like, let's just have you stay here in one of our guest rooms.

Mariah: Oh, I hope I'm not putting you out.

Abby: Of course not, never. Let me go get you some pajamas.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: Hey! Where are you?

Mariah: I'm still at abby and chance'S. Looks like I'm gonna be spending the night. How are you?

Tessa: Yeah, stuck at crimson lights. I will be crashing with lola.

Mariah: Good. Looks like the storm's getting pretty fierce.

Tessa: How'd your talk go? Did you learn anything more about the surrogacy thing?

Mariah: The first step is a physical exam, you know, to make sure I can actually do this. But what struck me is just listening to them talk about how much they want a baby. And they are amazing with each other. They're being incredibly careful of my feelings so I don't feel pushed into anything.

Tessa: That's cool.

Mariah: They're gonna make such great parents.

Tessa: I just want you to wrap your mind around the enormity of what you would be doing.

Mariah: I'm not sure if i can.

Tessa: If you agree to have the doctor check you out, you still have the option to change your mind.

Mariah: Just think about this, tessa. If I agree to go through with this, it'S...it's gonna be like I swallowed an exercise ball, and there's gonna be stretch marks and a million other things that I have no idea about.

Tessa: You would be beautiful.

Mariah: So, you would still love me?

Tessa: Yeah, all of you, including the exercise ball.

Mariah: [ Chuckles ]

Tessa: It's a really beautiful, generous thing you're thinking about doing. And of course I would support you.

Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Got my hair

Abby: Your room is all set!

Mariah: I really appreciate this.

Abby: No problem.

Mariah: So, I called tessa to let her know that I wouldn't be coming home on account of the storm. I also let her know everng that we talked about, as this would affect her, too, and i wouldn't even consider doing this if she wasn't up for it.

Chance: Of course not.

Mariah: But it turns out... she is. And so am I. So... go ahead. Make the doctors' appointments because I want to do this for you guys.

Abby: Ah!

Mariah: I want to help you have a baby.

Abby: [ Laughs ]

Jack: Enough about me! I'm not gonna tell you any more tales of my family. Bore you to death.

Sally: I am not bored -- far from it.

Jack: Well, I guess I'll, uh, show you to your room, give you a chance to get settled.

Sally: You can just tell me what room it is, and I will find it.

Jack: Okay, well, it's the third door on the right. There are extra pillows in the armoire.

Sally: Thank you very much for your kindness. It is not something I encounter often.

Jack: You sleep well. Hopefully, this storm will blow over by morning, and I'll make sure your car is dug out by then.

Sally: Well, thank you. Good night.

Jack: Good night. Sweet dreams.

Victoria: I've been needing to move that chair. Johnny always knocks it over on his way to the bathroom.

Billy: And giving mom a heart attack every time.

Victoria: Oh, like that didn't scare you a little bit?

Billy: I mean, I heard it. I-I wanted to make sure that they were okay.

Victoria: Uh-huh.

Billy: That protective instinct that you have as a parent, it never really goes away, does it?

Victoria: Yeah. It's a good thing, I think.

[ Chuckles ]

Billy: Yeah, it's a good thing. Listen. I'm beat. I'm gonna check on the kids one more time, and if you don't mind, I'm gonna crash in the guest room.

Victoria: Billy?

Billy: Yeah?

Victoria: This was a really good day... for the kids.

Billy: I know these times won't last forever. Gonna take them when I can get them. Good night.

Devon: I'm sorry. I'm sorry for ever making you feel like I didn't need you, or, like, I didn't want you or appreciate you, because I didn't mean to do that.

Elena: I don't blame you.

Devon: I don't know how you could say that.

Elena: The woman you loved with all of your heart was resurrected right before your eyes. And as much as it hurt me, I can understand wanting to feel that again... and wanting to hold on to what was so unfairly taken from you.

Devon: Yeah, but I already had something new. I had a love that I never thought I'd ever have again. And I had it from you. I had it in my hands, and I let it go.
