Nick: I don't need to know the details of how you got the restraining order. But when it comes to keeping adam from christian, I'll take whatever help I can get.

Adam: I'm not going anywhere. I'm staying right here in genoa city.

Victor: You'll live to regret it.

Billy: I'm just glad he doesn't have to be around adam.

Nick: Yeah, I'm not usually down for influencing judges, but I'm not complaining this time.

Billy: I'm surprised victor got involved. I thought he'd be playing switzerland in this battle.

Nick: Mm, adam forgot what happened when he pushed dad too far.

Billy: Boom. Restraining order.

Nick: Yeah, and it worked. We were with, uh, christian at the park yesterday, and adam showed up.

Billy: You call the cops?

Nick: Didn't have to. One look from dad, and he backed off.

Billy: Well, don't think that's gonna be the end of it. Adam's still a threat to christian and every other kid out there.

Victoria: Nick! I didn't know you were dropping by this morning!

Nick: Yeah, just a quick visit with christian.

Victoria: Well, I would stay for breakfast, but I just got a text from dad and he wants me to meet him at the office.

Nick: Yeah, I'm headed there, too.

Victoria: Do you have any idea what it's about?

Nick: You should probably hear it from him.

Victoria: Okay. Have a good.

Billy: Bye.

Victoria: Bye.

Nick: Hey, don't worry about adam. I got his number.

Nikki: Abby! I thought that was you. Hi!

Abby: Hey, nikki.

Nikki: Is everything okay?

Abby: I just got a text from dad.

Nikki: Summoning you to a meeting at his office. Yeah, I got the same text.

Abby: The last time he called a family meeting, it was to tell us he was sick. Is he all right?

Nikki: His treatment has been going well.

Abby: Then what is this about?

Nikki: Well, the best way to find out is to go down there and see what your father has to say.

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Elena: Okay.

Devon: Hey.

Elena: Honey!

Elena: I was just gonna grab a bagel on my way out.

Kevin: If that were true, you wouldn't have arrested my wife. How did you find her, anyway?

Michael: Who do you think you're dealing with? Now, if you'll let me explain, i will tell you --

Victor: [ Exhales sharply ] I've got some bad news.

Victoria: Nick said that it's not about your health.

Nikki: I can only think of one other reason why you would call us here.

Victor: Yeah. It's about adam.

Nick: Dad got a restraining order against him. He can't go anywhere near christian.

Abby: That sounds like good news.

Nikki: You're worried about adam retaliating.

Victor: Well, nicholas and i think that things are only gonna get worse from now on.

Nick: Adam can't stand to lose, and that court order was the final straw.

Victor: In other words, we have to be -- all of us have to be prepared for anything.

Victoria: All right, well, i will do a top-to-bottom review and have our security team look into any cyber attacks or internal leaks, anything that looks suspicious.

Abby: I'll do the same at society and the new project that I'm working on.

Nick: We should all keep an eye on our personal accounts and devices, make sure safety measures are in place.

Victor: You know... as a father, it pains me that we have to take these kind of precautions against my own son.

Nick: I absolutely hate it that you all got drawn into my battle.

Nikki: Sweetheart, there is no way we would let you fight adam on your own.

Victoria: If he takes on one of us, he takes on all of us.

Abby: He crossed a line going after christian. We're all behind you.

Adam: Oh, such devotion. It's touching. Really. You might want to keep your voices down, though. Unless you don't mind everyone knowing a newman is going after one of their own.

Michael: Here's what's going to happen.

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

Michael: In a few minutes, the police officer outside is going to escort you to a courtroom.

Chloe: Okay.

Michael: You'll be charged with one count of arson for setting the fire that, until recently, was believed to have killed adam newman. But your attorney is going to attest that you did not believe anyone was in the cabin when the explosion occurred.

Kevin: Well, there's also the small matter of chloe recently putting a bullet in adam.

Chloe: And he saw my face?

Michael: Yeah, well, he was also stupid enough to purposely I.D. The wrong guy, so if he changes his story now, no one's going to believe him.

Chloe: Okay, but what about the arson charge? I'm gonna have to do time for that.

Michael: Your attorney's gonna argue that you were... mentally unstable at the time of the incident due to emotional trauma because of the loss of your daughter.

Kevin: Which is true.

Chloe: Yeah.

Michael: I'm gonna put up a tough front, but, ultimately, i will agree that you are not accountable for your actions due to mental illness, and I'm gonna recommend probation and mandated outpatient therapy.

Chloe: That -- that's it?

Michael: You'll be allowed to post bail and should be out today.

Kevin: [ Laughs ]

Chloe: You're really gonna do this for me?

Michael: I miss bella. If I clear this slate for you, I'll get to see her grow up. Unfortunately, that also means I'll have to deal with both you knuckleheads.

Michael: No, hold on.

Kevin: Michael!

Michael: If anyone walks in and see us, it'll blow the whole deal. Come on, come on.

Victoria: Oh, boy, here come the threats. You know, it's getting really old, adam.

Adam: No. No threats. Just this. It's about christian.

Nick: You're dropping your petition for custody?

Adam: Told you. You are all my witnesses. I am giving up the right to raise my own son. Nick is his father in almost every way that counts.

Nick: Is this for real?

Adam: Would you lighten up? Enjoy the moment.

Victoria: You know, you can't really blame us for being skeptical. It's not exactly like you to play nice.

Adam: Wait a minute, hang on. Who said anything about playing nice?

Adam: I mean, don't get me wrong, I am doing this out of love for christian, but things are about to get ugly, and i don't want him getting caught in the cross-fire.

Nick: Your beef is with me. There's no need to drag the rest of the family into this.

Adam: Yes, good ol' noble nick, ready to take on the enemy alone.

Victoria: Oh, he's not alone.

Abby: Same.

Adam: God, you know, the biggest lie you all tell is that you are a loving, caring family. I don't want to take on just one or two of you. It will be far more gratifying to destroy the miff of the myth of the newmans once and for all. So I can expose the rivalries and the resentments and the jealousies to the world. I mean, I want this win to mean something. And you're never gonna see it coming.

Victor: Hey, adam. Good luck to you, son.

Nate: Hey.

Elena: Hey!

Nate: How was your first day?

Elena: Uh, crazy. Exhilarating. Exhausting.

Nate: Yeah. Welcome back to medicine.

Elena: Thanks. Um, we only had orientation today and we got out early, so i got myself a latte.

Nate: Oh, I, uh, came in between rounds to avoid the hospital coffee.

Elena: You know, I always thought that was a rumor.

Nate: It's undrinkable. Uh, regular coffee, please. You want to take a seat?

Elena: Sure.

Nate: Yeah. Thank you. So... how'd you like rosie?

Elena: Oh, my gosh. Working with her for half-a-day is like working an entire week.

Nate: Yeah, she's got a rep for being tough on residents.

Elena: Yeah, I can attest to that. She definitely doesn't tolerate incompetence.

Nate: Mm, she pushes you to be your best.

Elena: Yeah. I think we'll get along fine.

Nate: Yeah, well, watch out. She's like a monster in a horror flick. If she needs to talk to you, she will find you wherever you are, day or night.

Elena: Perfect. Now you tell me.

[ Both laugh ]

Nate: You still glad you jumped back in?

Elena: Yes. I think I was meant for this.

Nate: I can't remember the last time I've seen you this happy.

Elena: [ Chuckles ]

Nate: You're practically glowing. If I wasn't on call, I would take you out to dinner to celebrate your first day.

Elena: Uh, no. I'm the one who owes you dinner. I wouldn't have even gotten in this residency if it weren't for you.

Nate: That's nonsense. Once you got into the room with the head of the program, it was all you. The hospital is lucky to have you.

Elena: [ Chuckles

Chloe: [ Sighs ]

[ Gasps ]

Kevin: It's real. You're home.

Chloe: Thank you.

Michael: I got the judge to issue a gag order, keeping the news that you're alive out of the press. But that's not gonna last for long. And once the media knows, members of the public will know. One member in particular.

Chloe: Adam.

Michael: Stay clear of him, both of you.

Kevin: We know. No more chances.

Michael: I got to get back to the office. Don't make me regret this.

Nick: Making me think he's giving up could be a ploy.

Victor: Yeah. It breaks my heart to see him regress. I remember the time, before the explosion, when he seemed to be getting along with everyone, more or less.

Victoria: He was decent.

Nikki: You know, for a moment, when he said he had dropped the custody suit, i thought that adam had returned. Then he vowed to destroy our family.

Nick: He's a bastard. He likes messing with our heads.

Victor: You know, we all need to be on guard. I guarantee you he's not finished.

Nate: What else did you do besides orientation?

Elena: Um, we observed on rounds with dr. Frankel.

Nate: Oh, I was called in a consult of one of her patients. Humerus fracture.

Elena: High school football player.

Nate: Yeah. What'd you think?

Elena: Mm, I don't think you'd like my diagnosis.

Nate: Lay it on me.

Elena: Okay, um, dr. Frankel opted for a sling and immobilizing the arm, but i thought surgery was indicated.

Nate: That's exactly what i recommended.

Elena: Really?

Nate: Yeah, you've got good instincts. You're gonna make an excellent surgeon.

Elena: Thank you. You know what else I'm good at? Troubleshooting relationship advice.

Nate: Mm.

Elena: How am I doing with you and abby? Did backing off help?

Nate: I decided to go in a slightly different direction.

Nate: I told her we'd play by her rules, no pressure, no commitment, just two people hanging out.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Nothing yet.

Victoria: You wouldn't want him to get his hopes up for no reason.

Victoria: Billy?

Victoria: Uh, where are the kids?

Billy: They're upstairs with hannah. How'd it go with your dad?

Victoria: Uh, it went fine. He's just, um -- he's worried about adam, worried that he might strike back because of the restraining order.

Nick: He was right. The brother from hell showed up and crashed the meeting.

Billy: With a pitchfork in tow, no doubt.

Nick: I'll let vick fill you in. I'm gonna go hang with christian.

Victor: Are you okay?

Billy: Yeah, I'm fine.

Victoria: I -- I'm only asking because I assumed that you would be at the office and not here taking a nap.

Billy: Well, sue me for being tired.

Victoria: Are you sure that's all it is?

Billy: What, vick? Am I drinking? Am I gambling? Am I cheating on you?

Victoria: No, of course not. I'm -- I just wanted to know if you were having another nightmare.

Billy: Well, don't worry about me. Worry about what adam's up to.

Victoria: Since when do you chew gum?

Victoria: No, it's just unusual.

Billy: Well, I don't feel like being analyzed, okay? So I'm gonna go to work.

Chloe: [ Sighs ] Yeah. And not only him, the rest of the people of genoa city. I mean, how do you think they're gonna react once they realize i was never dead?

Kevin: The same way esther did, and billy.

Chloe: I don't think there's gonna be as happy.

Kevin: Well, if they're not, screw 'em. You deserve to have your life back.

Chloe: Thanks to you. I mean, you believed in me every step of the way. You stood by me. You sacrificed your whole life for me.

Kevin: It was no sacrifice. Let's go see what tonight's main event is gonna be.

Chloe: Oh! What do you think? Mermaids or princesses?

Kevin: Mm, my money is on mermaids.

Nikki: You might be able to convince the kids that that encounter with adam wasn't exhausting, but you know better than to try and fool me.

Adam: [ Chuckles ] I would say it's your last-ditch effort to salvage something from the ruins of the grand phoenix deal that blew up in your face.

Adam: [ Laughs ] That is hilarious, on -- on so many levels. So thank you for that. I really needed a good laugh today, phyllis.

Adam: Oh, yes, I'm just dying to hear why you came here.

Phyllis: Abby screwed me over with a major assist from your father. I helped victoria look good in her daddy's eyes, and I offered dark horse back to nick. And I got nothing. Not even a thank-you.

Adam: Okay, so this is a "bash the newmans" party? I'm in. Let's crack a bottle of champagne. I will make the first toast.

Elena: Just a regular typical boss.

Elena: But enough about my job. I still haven't gotten a chance to thank you for the amazing breakfast you made me this morning.

Devon: You don't have to thank me for that. It's just breakfast.

Devon: Yeah.

Elena: Oh. Like this was just a kiss?

Adam: To mutual animosity. Aren't you going to drink?

Adam: [ Sighs ] You know, if we're gonna be friends, you really need to work on your trust issues.

Phyllis: I trust you to be exactly who you are.

Adam: Oh, what did you say the other day? It was something like... and I'm paraphrasing here. "Someone with nothing but hate inside of them," is that it?

Phyllis: That was accurate. But I had forgotten. I am, too. I needed a reminder. Thank you, newman family.

Adam: Look, here's the thing about hate, is either you can let it eat you up...

Phyllis: Or...?

Adam: Or you can use it as motivation. I choose door number two.

Phyllis: What's your end game?

Adam: It's simple. I'm going to bury my family, take away everything they take for granted.

Phyllis: It's five against one. Those are bad odds.

Adam: Are you offering to join my side?

Phyllis: I'm very good at burying things.

Adam: I hear you suck at it.

Phyllis: I sucked the first time. I've improved. I've upped my game.

Nick: You thinking about adam?

Victoria: Billy, actually.

Nick: Yeah. He did seem a little off.

Victoria: Yeah, I know. He's been like that for weeks. He's been on edge and anxious during the day and, at night, he's restless, and when he can sleep, he has nightmares.

Nick: Having insomnia that long can really mess with you. Do you think he should see a professional?

Victoria: He did. He saw a therapist, but it didn't help so he -- he never went back.

Nick: I mean, do you have any idea what triggered it?

Victoria: It all started when adam came back.

Nick: Is there anything that guy can't make worse?

Victoria: Adam has dredged up all of these painful memories about delia's death for billy, and I'm really worried, nicholas. I'm worried that he won't be able to survive something like that again.

Nick: Well, he's got you, vick.

Victoria: I have tried to let him know that I am here for him, no matter what, but it's like he doesn't want any help.

Nick: Look, billy is smart. He's gonna realize how lucky he is to have you.

Victor: I hope so.

Kevin: Chloe, what --

Chloe: Um, bella just gave billy quite the scare. Um, hey, why don't you go into the kitchen and go see if grandma needs some help?

Kevin: You okay? This way.

Billy: What are you doing back in town? I, uh, thought you were in hiding.

Chloe: Well, I can't really go into details, but the new district attorney decided to drop most of the charges against me.

Billy: Good. Good. There's no way that adam should be free and you aren'T.

Chloe: You know, I, um... I really just want to talk about you, billy. Are you okay?

Billy: Yeah. No, I'm good. I'm fine. I -- my mom just wanted me to send some papers to her, so i came by to grab them. I thought esther was out of town so I just -- I used my key. I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to scare bella.

Chloe: Yeah. I think you both gave each other quite the scare.

Billy: Yeah. I'm okay.

Chloe: Okay, um, I'm gonna go back to bella.

Billy: Okay. It's really good to see you.

Chloe: Hey. If you need anything, I'm here, okay?

Billy: I'm good.
