Episode #11609 ~ Sharon tells Rey about her past. Devon gives Elena mixed signals. Traci takes on a new persona.

Provided By Suzanne

Previously, on "The Young and The Restless"...

Elena: You're handling your father's passing a lot better than I handled my mother's.

Devon: Was her passing, uh, sudden, like Neil's?

Elena: I don't really like to talk about it.

Cane: You pretend like I'm one of the characters in your novel, and you help me to find a happy ending amongst all of this.

[Door opens]

Traci: America had won the war overseas, but Flynn had lost the war at home.

Sharon: Adam was in that cabin when it blew up. Chelsea saw it.

Victor: She saw the explosion, but obviously no one knew realized he had escaped.  Apparently, he doesn't remember a damn thing that happened before the explosion. I think you will be able to bring him back.

Sharon: It's from Adam. He wants to meet with me. Alone.

[cellphone chimes]

Sharon: Adam?

Devon: Hey, Cane.

Cane: Hey.  Hey, how you doing?

Devon: I'm hanging in there. How you doing?

Cane: I'm okay. Listen, if there's anything I can do, you know, with --

Devon: Oh, I appreciate that.  I'm sorry Lily left town the way she did. You know, she's just doing what she thinks she needs to do.

Cane: Yeah. Yeah, I know.

Devon: You're not gonna ask me about her?

Cane: No, um, yeah, I kind of figured she'd want her space. Um, listen, I've got a meeting I'm expecting, so...

Devon: Cool. Is it important?

Cane: Could be the start of a whole brand-new me.

Devon: Mm.

Cane: Excuse me.

Devon: Yeah, sure.

Traci: Flynn swirled his

scotch as if it might whisk his

problems away.

But there was no solace at the

bottom of the glass tonight,

only an endless reserve of loss

and regret.

[ Keyboard clicking ]

[ Knocks on door ]

He was loath to answer the

door.

That kind of knock was never

good.

He was right, as usual.

Heartbreak was back.

Tessa: [ Laughs ]

Jett: Hey, hey, hey, hey. I like the looks of this. What's the occasion?

Ana: A productive session in the studio.

Tessa: It was, uh, kind of magical.

Jett: Well, I'm happy for you ladies, and a little jealous.

Ana: Oh, you might have some competition over here, dad.

Tessa: Oh! Oh, no, no, no. Not at all. You are still the king.

Jett: Hey, look, it's a big tent. There's room enough for everybody.

Ana: There definitely is.

Sharon: Adam?

[ Cellphone pings ]

Cane: And as the C.E.O. Of chancellor industries, I oversaw all the divisions in the subsidiaries. I, uh -- well, that includes the construction and biotech, and I also managed over 1,000 employees.

I'm aware of you, and chancellor.

Cane: Okay.

But we're a non-profit.

Cane: Which I would like to work for.

In what capacity?

Cane: I'm thinking, you know, if I could work with, maybe, ex-prisoners and help re-integrate them back into life, you know? Maybe I could do a, uh -- a vocational workshop, or I could teach interviewing, uh, skills. You know, because I kind of -- I know what employers are looking for, you know, so...

You've been in the c-suite for a long time.

Cane: Yes, I have.

We help people who are starting over from nothing.

Cane: I know. They're looking for redemption, you know, a second chance, and so am I. Look, I know it's not the same, and you're probably thinking that I come from a place of privilege.

Mm-hmm.

Cane: But what I really would like to do is make a difference. I'm just kind of asking if you could maybe think about it for me. You know, that's all.

I'll talk to my team, and I'll get back to you.

Cane: Thank you. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

Mm-hmm.

Cane: Thank you.

[ Exhales sharply ]

Devon: Couldn't help but overhear. What are you doing?

Cane: I'm, uh, reassessing and recalibrating.

Devon: By quitting chancellor and getting a job that's similar to lily? She said she wants to go through with the divorce, so if you're doing this for her, I think it's a mistake. I think that she's already done what's best for both of you guys.

Traci: Flynn's ex-wife wore his favorite dress. He bristled that she still had that affect on him.

Flynn: What are you doing here, iris?

Iris: Aren't you going to offer me a drink?

Traci: They'd once been madly

in love, but forces worked

against them since the moment

they met.

They fought to stay together,

but lost.

Flynn felt the burn of the

break-up, but he also felt a

lust for the past.

Flynn: I don't have all night.

Iris: Of course you do.

Flynn: So, what do you want?

Iris: I need your help with a case.

Flynn: Not interested.

Iris: Despite your many, many flaws, you're still a good private eye.

Flynn: Thanks.

Iris: My new husband is cheating on me, and I need your help to prove it.

Sharon: I've told you everything I know, victor. I'll touch base with you tomorrow.

Rey: Adam didn't show?

Sharon: The strange thing is, I texted him, and then I heard a ping seconds after. It was like he was right there. So close, I could almost feel his presence.

Rey: What makes you so sure it was him?

Sharon: It's hard to explain. I just know.

Rey: Uh, he agreed to meet with you. Why didn't he show up?

Sharon: Someone who's lost their memory, it might be frightening for them to come face-to-face with their past.

Rey: Who wouldn't want to know who they were?

Sharon: Adam's not your average guy.

Rey: He's victor's son. That's enough to mess you up right there.

Sharon: You have no idea. For years, adam's life revolved around victor, trying to prove himself and earn his love and then hurting him and exacting revenge.

Rey: And your history with him is just as intense?

Sharon: Seeing me might have brought up some memories that could be overwhelming.

Rey: Okay, look, I don't know what happened between you and adam, but I think it's time you told me just how complicated things got.

Cane: Listen, I don't want to argue with you, okay? It's obvious I respect your opinion, but, you know, this is not your marriage, okay?

Devon: I understand that. I'm just a little confused because the last time I talked to lily, she said you agreed to move on, and now you're here trying to fight the divorce.

Cane: Okay, first of all, I'm not trying to fight it. All I'm trying to do is rebuild myself so that I can just, i don't know, be a better man. That's what I want to do.

Devon: Okay. I can respect that.

Cane: Listen, my emotions aren't like a faucet, all right? They don't just turn off. And I know that you lost the love of your life, all right? So I thought, of all people, you would understand what I'm going through.

Devon: That's a little bit different, okay?

Cane: Okay, I -- I shouldn't try and compare them, I'm sorry about that.

Devon: It's okay. You need to understand, though, that lily is also struggling between you guys splitting up and losing her father. It's been devastating. It's been devastating for both of us.

Cane: Hey. I know neil was the anchor of

>>: Yeahand espe for lily, w taken away from her.

Cane: It's just my instincts. I just want to go to her, right? I just want to comfort her.

Devon: She doesn't want you to do that.

Cane: I know that. I do.

Devon: So, hey, what's the real story with this new job?

Cane: I don't blame lily for leaving me, all right? But now I just want to do something that's worthy of her, all right? And if this doesn't work out, then... I don't know, I'll find something else that's philanthropic. By the way, uh, I've decided I'm gonna sell my house and get something smaller.

Devon: [ Scoffs ] Okay. That sounds extreme and it sounds desperate. She's made it very clear she wants to move on, cane. You need to make peace with that and not overhaul your life for a dream that may never come true.

Flynn: There's a lot of detectives in the phone book, so why me?

Iris: I thought I would do you a favor. You could use the work.

Flynn: That's funny. Doesn't sound like a favor. I don't think I want the work.

Iris: Well, never mind, then. I'll take my case to someone else.

Flynn: Hold on. Hold on.

Iris: Why?

Flynn: Because I'm thinking that you're hoping that your husband is cheating on you. Because I think you want me to find out.

Iris: And why would I want that?

Flynn: For one reason. You're still in love with me, and you're looking for a reason to come back.

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Traci: Uh, hello!

Cane: Hey. Look, I'm sorry for calling so late, but I could really use someone to talk to. Is this a bad time?

Traci: No, no. Not at all. Actually, I was just curling up with a good book.

Sharon: Adam and I were on-and-off again for years. At times, we fed into each other in ways that were unhealthy, but we loved each other with everything. We were all in.

Rey: Why'd you two keep getting back together?

Sharon: Because there was this connection between us that drew us to each other, and it was just undeniable. I'm sorry if this is difficult to hear.

Rey: It's all right, but none of this is making me feel any better about you seeing this guy again.

Sharon: Adam could be vengeful and scheming. That was a part of him. But he could also be kind and loving, even heroic. Despite all the damage that he and did to each other, adam took a bullet for victor. And, one night, he even saved faith's life. We were stuck in this tornado, and adam threw himself over her body to protect her from being crushed by debris. And the reason why I'm really willing to help adam now... he saved my life, also.

Rey: How?

Sharon: You sure want to hear some unflattering things about your perfect girlfriend?

Rey: We all have our flaws.

Sharon: But we don't all have mental breakdowns. It was the lowest time in my life. I was having delusions. I was hearing voices. And, one night, I heard victor and nikki telling me that... that I was unlovable and I was worthless, and... in my altered state... I burned their house down. Adam saved me from the fire. He kept me safe and hidden away, he protected me because, at the time, I was too fragile to deal with the consequences. Adam didn't have to help me, but he did. Adam saved me physically and emotionally by getting me into therapy where I was diagnosed as bipolar.

Rey: It must have been a real struggle.

Sharon: It was, but I am able to manage it with therapy and medication, and that's the reason why I never brought it up before now.

Rey: I'm here for you. And if you ever want to talk about this... because if this is a problem for you, then... then we both need to deal with it.

Sharon: Really? That's it?

Rey: Yeah.

Sharon: I said a lot.

Rey: Yeah. I could tell it wasn't easy.

Sharon: That's really good to be able to share everything in my life with you.

Rey: It's called being in love. Come here. But there's nothing else, is there?

Sharon: No. That's everything.

Rey: Okay. Okay, listen, I -- I can't tell you what to do regarding adam, but I am -- I am worried about you meeting with him, and i think nick is, too. I heard you on the phone with him.

Sharon: He's just worried that if I go probing into adam's head that he's gonna end up getting into mine.

Rey: Okay, are you worried about that?

Sharon: Not really. I mean, I guess there's a part of me that wonders if things might get thorny again...

Rey: Okay. Okay, then let's -- let's get out of here. Go home, we'll tell victor we're done.

Sharon: I can't do that because as much as adam hurt me... I wouldn't be the woman that i am today without him. I wouldn't have the life that i have. I wouldn't be the partner that i am to you if I weren't the person that I was with him.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Sharon: So I hope you can understand that I need to return the favor because... in a way, I owe adam my life.

Traci: What's going on?

Cane: I kind of had this, uh -- this rough conversation with devon.

Traci: About lily?

Cane: Yeah. You know, you're the only one who thinks I shouldn't give up, right?

Traci: [ Sighs ] Well, it's kind of my nature to always hope for a happy ending. I know that that's not always possible, so I really hope i haven't encouraged unrealistic expectations.

Cane: No, no, no. Look. I know the chance of reconciliation is low, okay? I know that. And, uh, I also know I should focus on myself. Devon made that more than clear. I had an interview, all right, but, you see, the thing is, I'm starting to think that getting a new job or just downsizing is not gonna fix what's broken.

Traci: [ Sighs ] I wish I had some easy answers for you.

Cane: Yeah. Me, too. All right, um... okay. The real reason why I'm here is... I was at home, and, you know, the kids aren't there, and the house is so quiet, you know? It just -- you know, when the kids aren't there on the weekend, I miss them. Well, it makes me think about, you know, being the kind of dad I want to be. Look, it's not that -- I just want to be a kind of different dad than my father was. It's not that I'm blaming him for my problems with lily. I'm not. It's just, you know, when I came into neil's family, you know, it kind of made me realize, you know, that he was the father that I didn't have. And now it just makes me, uh, want to aspire to be a better man, you know?

Traci: Mm. Well, you can't go wrong if you have neil as a role model.

Cane: Yeah, it's just that i can't tell him that.

Traci: Cane. I believe he knew.

Cane: Yeah. Anyway, look, um... I didn't mean to dump all this on you, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.

Traci: No, no.

Cane: No, no.

Traci: No, don'T. It's my pleasure. Really.

Cane: Okay. You know what, you're a good friend. You know? You always stand there and just, like, let me vent, and no one -- I just never ask you how you're doing, all right? So what's going on with you? So, tell me -- how you doing?

Traci: [ Laughing ] Me?

Cane: [ Laughing ] Yeah.

Traci: Okay, wow. [ Laughs ]

Cane: All right.

Traci: Um, wow, nobody has asked me that in a really long time.

Ana: Well, it was a little bumpy at first, but thanks to a little help from devon, we found our grove.

Tessa: Ana is an amazing producer.

Ana: Yeah.

Jett: Well, maybe I could tag along the next time you two go to the studio.

Tessa: No, no, no, no. Because there's no way that i could sing in front of you.

Jett: No, no, I get it. I get it. You know, I'm still feeling a little vulnerable, too, about this, uh, potential comeback thing. I mean, it feels like I've never sung a note before. But, um, you got to fight through it. You know, when I was first starting, I was singing in the subway station and the right club owner heard me, and that led to one of my first big gigs. Look, my point is, never hide your voice. Uh, wait one second.

I'm so in love with you

and I'm hoping you're feelin' it, too

Ana: Oh, oh, oh

say you want me

oh, oh, oh

say you need me

Tessa: Baby, baby, baby, baby

won't you take me, take me, take me

take me to the stars

take me to the moon

I don't care as long as I'm with you

take me to your mama

take me anywhere

it don't matter long as you are there

take me, take me, take me

baby, take me

Devon: Hey. Don't stop on my account, please.

Ana: Oh, I -- I didn't want you to think we were --

Devon: What?

Ana: I know you're still mourning.

Devon: No, come on. Coming home to a house full of music is one of the best feelings in the world, and neil would have loved it. All right? Actually, you gave me a great idea.

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Devon: Music was neil's sanctuary, and it was his therapy, where it would literally heal him. It does the same for me.

Ana: Yeah. Sure.

Elena: You know, the medical community might agree with you, too. There have been a lot of studies that have proven that music has medicinal qualities.

Devon: I believe that 100%, and it also brings people together, which is why I want to do a tribute to neil at society.

Ana: I love that idea.

Devon: Yeah? And I also thought it'd be cool if we dedicated the stage to him, and, that way, his love for music will live on forever.

Rey: I just have to say -- I don't think you owe adam anything.

Sharon: He was there for me at my rock bottom, and now he's going through something traumatic, and I'm in a position to help him. If I walk away, then.. I'm not being the person I hope I am.

Rey: But, sharon, you are generous and compassionate. What if he takes advantage of that?

Sharon: He won'T. He's just scarred because he suffered in so many ways. But I am so much stronger now. I actually feel qualified to handle this. I mean, I have a degree in psychology, and I've studied cases like this.

Rey: I'm not sure this is your textbook case.

Sharon: I know, but I'm going into this with my eyes wide open.

Rey: Mm.

Sharon: And just so you know, before adam was presumed dead, he and I had moved on to other people, and we became friends.

Rey: Friends?

Sharon: He's not going to affect what you and I have. I am so far past that relationship. I mean, it was a roller coaster ride, one that I got off of a long time ago.

Rey: Well, if you feel like you can help him... then I think so, too. I am here to support you.

Traci: So, mostly, I spend time tending to dina.

Cane: Listen, I'm really sorry to hear about her decline.

Traci: Thank you. It's heartbreaking. But, in an odd way, it's this gift, being able to spend all this time with her. Unlike neil.

Cane: Yeah, um... we lost out on so much.

Traci: Yes, but at least his passing seems to have tamped down the feud between jack and ashley for the moment.

Cane: Okay.

Traci: You know, the two of them are so busy trying to prove that each of them is the rightful heir to daddy's legacy. All they're really doing is just fighting over daddy himself, like they always did.

Cane: And it leaves you stuck in the middle...

Traci: Precisely.

Cane: Mediating and, you know, trying to peace-make...

Traci: And it's so frustrating. Sometimes I resent it.

Cane: Yeah.

Traci: I mean, who do they think they are? They're going at each other all the time and treating the rest of us like collateral damage.

[ Sighs ] Sorry.

Cane: No! Hey. It feels good, doesn't it? Doesn't that feel good?

Traci: It does.

Cane: Yeah?

Traci: Oh, my gosh. I'm usually so busy sorting out things for everybody else that nobody lets me vent.

[ Laughs ]

Cane: Hey. Hey. I can listen, all right? It's the least I can do for you.

Traci: Cane, I know that you think that our conversations have been really one-sided, but they aren'T.

Cane: Well...

Traci: I've really enjoyed listening to life from someone else's perspective. It's liberating, and you've inspired me in so many ways. You've actually reintroduced me to my first love -- writing. I've started a new book.

Cane: Wow. That's great.

Traci: It's so exciting. It's something I've never done before. It's a period piece, and my very first mystery.

Cane: Wow, this sounds intriguing. Okay. All right.

Traci: I'm glad you think so because I have a little confession to make.

Cane: Uh-huh.

Traci: [ Sighs ] My protagonist, the main character, is loosely based on you.

Cane: [ Laughs ] All right, this guy sounds like he's a complete mess.

Traci: Yeah, maybe a little.

[ Laughs ] But... he's still my hero.

Tessa: Hey.

Mariah: Hey! Oh, my god.

Tessa: Okay. Whoa.

Mariah: I'm sorry. Hi. I just, uh... I -- I'm sorry.

Tessa: What? What?

Mariah: Nothing, um... nothing, you just -- you spooked me, and, um... and I -- you're lucky I didn't have any mace.

Tessa: [ Chuckles ] Well, i feel lucky. What's going on?

Mariah: Nothing. Nothing at all. I've just -- you know, I've been here too long. I've had too many lattes, and i guess it just set me on edge, and why I am still talking when I want to know exactly how the rest of your recording session went.

Tessa: I can't wait to tell you, after you tell me what's going on.-Mariah: [ Sighs ]

Tessa: I thought we weren't hiding things anymore.

Mariah: Right, um... I got another text.

Tessa: Who does this loser think he is?

Mariah: I don't know, but that's the second one I've gotten today.

Tessa: Okay, you definitely should have told me about this earlier.

Mariah: I didn't want to distract you and ana.

Tessa: You are never a distraction, and you are way more important than any recording session. This is serious, okay? We have to do something.

Mariah: Or we could just ignore it and, you know, not make it a big thing.

Tessa: If someone is threatening the woman I love, that's a huge thing.

Mariah: Wait, what are you doing?

Tessa: I'm sending your stalker a message.

Mariah: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Are you sure that's -- that's a good idea? What -- what are you saying?

Tessa: "Help me understand what I did to upset you. If we talk, maybe we can work it out."

Devon: You know, neil used to own this jazz club called indigo, and it was his pride and joy. I know he'd be proud to see society become a success. I think he'd appreciate having the stage dedicated to him and have a plaque put up.

Elena: The way you're coping with your father's passing is so admirable.

Devon: Well, I don't know about all that.

Elena: You're facing it head-on and working through it. It's hard for me to even think about what happened to my mother.

Devon: Well, this isn't me trying to get you to talk about it if you don't feel like it. But from what I got from jett, it sounds like you're carrying around a lot of guilt for something that's not really your fault.

Elena: Except it was.

[ Sighs ] She was epileptic, and sometimes she didn't take her medication because she hated the side effects. We couldn't afford a caretaker, so it was my responsibility to make sure she took her pills.

Devon: Well... I mean, you know you can't be with somebody every second of every day.

Elena: Yeah. I was working crazy hours. And, because of that... I wasn't there for her. Not when she had a seizure... ...or when she fell... ...or when she died.

Devon: I'm sorry. I know just as well as anyone how strong guilt can be. It can completely consume you. You just can't let it.

Elena: [ Scoffs ] It's not really a choice for me. I know I have to live with what I did for the rest of my life.

Devon: No, it's always a choice. Everything we feel in life is a choice. You just have to decide whether or not you want to choose to let it go.

Elena: Yeah, I'm sorry, I -- I can't really talk about this anymore.

Devon: It's all right.

Rey: Still nothing?

Sharon: No.

Rey: I mean, it's probably not gonna happen tonight.

Sharon: Yeah, I suppose you're right.

Rey: Why don't we just get some sleep?

Sharon: [ Sighs ] I'm just too amped up to sleep.

Rey: Well, what can I do to help you?

Sharon: Hold me?

Rey: That I can do.

Mariah: Okay, am I too old to scream like a fangirl? Because that is exactly what i want to do right now.

Tessa: You are too old to --

Mariah: Whoo! [ Laughs ]

Tessa: Okay, that was -- that was really nice, but now that you've got that out of your system, will you give me a more honest opinion?

Mariah: Tessa, it's incredible. It's a total hit.

Tessa: You really think so?

Mariah: Yeah. You and ana must have found a way to work together because that is unbelievable.

Tessa: Well, once I got over my nerves, she lightened up a bit, and, uh, we really figured it out. I think we're on the same page now, and, uh, she kind of feels like a friend.

Mariah: I'm so happy for you. Come here.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Hilary: I wish that I could

talk to my mom and that we

could go through together.

Devon: Hey.

If your mother was anything

like you, I guarantee you,

she's never left your side.

She's with you in spirit right

now, and she's gonna be

watching over you every step of

the way.

Elena: Devon. Devon. Devon. You okay? You were crying in your sleep.

Devon: I'm sorry. I don't know why I just did that.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] Okay. Just -- just do it. It's like ripping off a band-aid.

Mariah: It's from faith.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: Sweet, innocent faith, not creepy stalker guy.

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: This time, at least.

Tessa: I mean, maybe talking back scared this guy off.

Mariah: Maybe. But maybe we don't want to scare him off.

Tessa: Why?

Mariah: You'll see.

Traci: My main character flynn, he's a tough guy. He is a loner, and he's a little rough around the edges.

Cane: [ Chuckles ] Okay.

Traci: He's a man who

sometimes does the wrong thing,

but always for the right

reasons.

Cane: Traci?

Traci: Lost and alienated,

but he covers his loneliness

with a weary wit.

Cane: You're starting to freak me out. Um... where were you?

Traci: Oh! The 1940s. I'm so sorry. It's an occupational hazard.

Cane: No, that's -- that's okay. Um, well, listen, if you're in the zone, uh, I'll go, and I'll let you get back to work, okay?

Traci: Okay.

Cane: All right?

[ Chuckles ]

Traci: [ Giggles ]

Cane: All right.

Traci: Um, cane?

Cane: Yeah.

Traci: Uh, look... I -- I know your situation may not work out exactly the way you want it to, but you're gonna be okay.

Cane: Thank you. Oh, and let me know how things go with my alter ego because, uh, I might ask him for some tips.

Traci: [ Laughs ]

[ Sighs ] Let's see.

Rey: What is it?

Sharon: Nothing.

Rey: Come back to bed.
