Mia: I threw it away.

Rey: We'll just have to get another one, then. See if this baby's real, or just another lie to get yourself out of going to prison for what you did to my sister.

Victoria: Yes, you know, and then later I'm gonna walk through the casino wearing nothing but heels. Is that a bad idea?

Billy: Okay, so that's how we're playing this.

Victoria: I'm not playing! And you shouldn't be here.

Billy: Who did you think was at the door? Who forgot something?

Rey: Hey. Come in. I didn't know you were coming over. Lola's sleeping, so we can hang out, watch a movie, you know.

Sharon: When were you going to tell me about baby rosales?

Tessa: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: [ Chuckles, sighs ]

Sharon: Is that real? Or is this some head game your wife is trying to inflict on me?

Rey: Yeah, mia's playing games, and... it is real.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] And you never said anything.

Rey: I'm -- I'm sorry. Sharon, I am, it's just... things with mia are complicated. She made them complicated because that's -- that's what she does. She -- she acts without thinking. And then she leaves this... giant mess to clean up.

Sharon: Are you talking about the baby?

Rey: No! It's just -- this is what she does, okay? She likes to stir up trouble. Sharon, I don't even know if this baby's mine.

Sharon: [ Sighs ] I'm sorry. Um, I didn't think of that. Arturo.

Rey: So, yeah. Yeah, I held back, but not because I was shutting you out.

Sharon: I know that you want to be a father. But it doesn't have to be this complex and complicated. And it doesn't change the fact that you should have told me. I deserve to have that information, rey, and know what I'm getting into.

Rey: I -- I wanted to tell you, sharon, I tried.

Sharon: But you stayed silent. And not just because you were unsure the child was yours.

Rey: You're right. Because... I wanted to be happy a little while longer. I just -- I wanted this, to be with you, for a long as I could.

[ Sighs ] It's been nothing but problems since I told you I love you.

Sharon: Since valentine's night. When everything went wrong.

Rey: Yeah, and it's been so crazy and, selfishly, I admit, i didn't want to add to that craziness. And mia, she didn't want to tell anyone yet, so, yeah, I guess I... used that as an excuse.

Rey: This is just exactly who mia is, and... I'm sorry.

Sharon: This is only the beginning, rey. You could have a child coming into this world. What are you going to do if the baby really is yours?

I have total pregnancy brain. I even lost the baby's first sonogram print-out.

Mia: I might have to call you for advice. I'm not showing yet, but I'm pregnant, too.

[ Giggles ] My husband's been after me about kids forever.

[ Cellphone rings ] I was just telling a client my good news. Did you call to offer congratulations.

Sharon: You and I need to talk.

Mia: Of course. Name a time and place. We'll be there. Since I'm speaking for two now.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Why are you still here?

Billy: So somebody forgot something. Let's see, who could that be? Maybe housekeeping forgot a vacuum? Or maybe you got a massage trying to relax, and the masseuse left their trippy, hippy cd thing. Or maybe a bellman dropped off a headshot hoping to be newman's next top model.

Victoria: So while you're here practicing your stand-up routine on me, the kids are, what, sitting at home alone?

Billy: Yes, they're at home alone. I left them playing with matches. They're with hannah, vick.

Victoria: Because you're here.

Billy: Because you're here.

Victoria: I needed a break! I think I at least deserve that, don't you?

Billy: I'm worried about you, okay? I don't want to be, but I jumped on a plane and I jumped in a cab, and I came here, and i bribed the front desk for your room number.

Victoria: I am never staying here again.

Billy: I just want to make sure you're okay.

Victoria: I'm fine. I'm an adult who knows how to look out for herself.

Billy: That's not what I'm saying.

Victoria: Then what are you saying, that you came all the way here to make sure that i wasn't actually enjoying myself, billy? Is that it?

Billy: That's not -- that's not what it is.

Victoria: So here's what you can do. I'm gonna take a shower. Please order me some room service, and hen order yourself a car back to the airport. Thanks. Bye.

Victoria: [ Sighing ] And you're still here. Did you at least order me a cheeseburger?

Billy: Cheddar, not swiss.

Victoria: Thank you. Now you can go.

Billy: No.

Victoria: Billy...

Billy: What's this?

Victoria: What does it look like?

Billy: So you're hooking up with some random guy now?

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Yes! I hooked up with a random guy. Because I'm not married and I'm not involved and because he was interested, and I was interested, too, and these things happen.

Billy: So I can draw a parallel line to that thing you had with cane.

Victoria: Billy, just say it, why don't you? Just say it. You saw me first, so no one else can touch me.

Billy: It's not about me, vick.

Victoria: You're right, it's not about you. I had fun with a guy in vegas, just like thousands of women do all the time. I thought I was gonna spend the next decade of my life in prison, and -- surprise! -- Now I'm not, so I'm doing what people do when they realize that they have a second chance at life.

Billy: Yeah, no, you're right, that's what people do. Just not you.

Victoria: Well, I'm a person.

Billy: Like no other person in the world. This is not how you cut loose.

Victoria: It is now.

Billy: Okay, so you feel, what, young, free, happy? You feel fulfilled? You want more of this sense of reckless abandon in your life?

Victoria: Billy! It doesn't have to be greatest weekend of my life, okay? I just -- I need... I just need...

Billy: What? What do you need?

Victoria: I don't know, i just needed to forget everything for a little while, that's all.

Billy: Well, I know how that goes.

Victoria: Okay, then why are you here, judging me?

Billy: I don't know. Because, to be truthful, I'm the last person that should be judging anybody. And for the last how many years, I don't know, I've been telling you that you don't have to be daddy's little perfect mogul, that you should live your own life, and...

Victoria: I need -- [ Sighs ] I really need just... I...I shouldn't have to explain myself to you. You should go.

Billy: Well, I can'T. I can't do that.

Victoria: Well, I didn't invite you here, so, technically, you're trespassing. You're invading my space. You're really annoying me right now.

Billy: Probably all of the above.

Victoria: Fine, if you won't leave, then I'm just gonna go find another hotel.

Billy: Why do you keep running away from me?

Victoria: I don't know.

[ Knocks on door ]

Tessa: I know I hurt you

and I don't know why

Mariah: I got it.

Tessa: Okay. So now I have to listen to the playback so I can fix it.

Mariah: What are you talking about? There's nothing to fix!

Tessa: Mariah, you heard the song. It needs a lot of work.

Tessa: Okay, so you're humoring me, which means that it sucks.

Mariah: You know me better than that, I think.

Tessa: I know that you will protect my feelings at all costs.

Mariah: And now you're calling me a liar, which, frankly, just hurts because I am not. Well, historically, I kind of was, but I'm not anymore. And, besides, the tape proves everything.

Tessa: I really -- I really don't want to hear it.

Mariah: Tessa, how did it feel when you were playing? Did it feel good?

Tessa: Yeah, but that doesn't --

Mariah: Okay, no, no, no. No more of this "I'm no good" thing, okay?

Tessa: Is that what I sound like?

Mariah: Yes, when I'm trying to make a point, but... I think we need to call devon.

Tessa: Whoa. Yeah, no. Definitely not.

Mariah: No, yes, he needs to hear this.

Tessa: No, he fired me. Twice. For very good reason.

Mariah: And now you have music that he can make money off of. He is a businessman. This is business.

Tessa: It's not even a real song yet.

Mariah: It's special, and he's gonna hear that. I promise you. So why don't I dial and you play?

Mariah: Tessa, I love you, too, but I already recorded it.

Tessa: That's cheating!

Mariah: Well, I'm a terrible person, what can I say?

Tessa: No, please. Please.

Mariah: Yep. Hey, be quiet!

Tessa: No, don't -- don't!

Mariah: Quiet! Don't! Stop it.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Devon: Hey, mariah. How's it going?

Mariah: Uh, it's getting better by the second. Question -- how would you like to hear something that's gonna rock your world?

Mia: Here I am. As requested.

Sharon: I got your special delivery.

Mia: I thought you might want a copy. Something to remember rey by.

Sharon: Because you think he's going somewhere?

Mia: Do you really doubt it?

Sharon: Stay off my property. If you pull something like that again, I will have you arrested.

Mia: Meanwhile, you've been on and off my property, haven't you?

Sharon: Your property?

Mia: Oh, I have the wedding ring to prove it.

Sharon: You know, I used to feel bad for you. Because someone as desperate and sad and insecure as you -- I mean, that's why you're so demanding. You're like a child. Any attention is good attention. Maybe your emotional development stopped when you were in your teens, when you were with arturo.

Mia: You want to try and shrink me, lady, do it. I dare you. You dragged a dead body all over town. Tell me how healthy and mature you are.

Sharon: You strung rey along for months, pretending that you cared about your marriage, when, really, you were waiting for arturo to break down and sleep with you again.

Mia: Is this a thing for you? Like, a fetish, or something? Being the other woman. Wasn't your man with someone else when you got pregnant? People in this town love to gossip when they're getting their makeup done, and you've given them so much to talk about.

Sharon: Rey's done with you, mia, it's over. He deserves someone who loves him as much as he loves her.

Mia: And that's you? You're the love of his life, and he's yours? You've known him 10 minutes. You didn't even know he was going to be a father. Whatever he feels for you, it's not love. Pity, guilt, whatever. It won't last. I'm having his baby. This is what he's wanted for years, and I'm giving it to him. Me. The minute this baby is born, you won't even exist, and you already know it.

Mariah: So you hear it, right? There's -- there's a layer there, there's a depth, and I -- once you get tessa into the studio --

Devon: I like it.

Mariah: Oh. You do? Of course! Of course you do! What's not to like about it? I mean... how -- how much do you like it?

Devon: Uh, I like it a lot. I think that tessa has come a long way.

Mariah: She has. She has. She's been through stuff that you can only imagine, and she puts all of that into her music -- the heartache, the life -- and that's what people connect to, that's what they need to hear.

Devon: Are you her agent now?

Mariah: I'm someone who appreciates talent.

Devon: Oh, well, her talent has never been the issue, you know that.

Mariah: True. She had other stuff that got in the way, but now she has something to show for it. Something a savvy label owner could make money off of.

Devon: Yeah, well, she has also lied to me more than once.

Mariah: Oh, she's lied to everybody. But that's not where she's at now. Look, I get that you don't trust her. But you trust me, right?

Devon: You're killing me, mariah, come on.

Mariah: Tessa -- she wasn't ready before. For work, her personal life, I mean, anything! Her music! And now... she's sorted those things out, and she's ready.

Devon: Right. It's a very big risk, though.

Mariah: Everything is a risk. You know? You just have to be brave. So be brave, devon, like tessa.

Devon: This isn't about being brave, it's about being smart.

Mariah: To be fair, being smart would have been putting all of mrs. Chancellor's money into a bank and living off the interest, but you didn't do that. You did something with passion and heart. That takes guts. This takes guts, too.

Devon: All right. I can't make any promises.

Mariah: No promises. Noted.

Devon: Because I have been burned before.

Mariah: Understood. Understood. But I promise you, devon, this time, things are gonna be different.

Devon: It's okay. You don't have to keep pitching me. Um, I will think about it, and then I'll be in touch with you. How about that?

Mariah: Okay, great. Thank you. You have a shot.

Tessa: Oh, my gosh! Thank you! Thank you!

Mariah: [ Giggles ]

Sharon: You were right before. My life isn't pure or uncomplicated. And I've dealt with plenty of my partners' bitchy exes. You don't even rank up there.

Mia: Oh, so much experience because so many men.

Sharon: Coming from a woman who doesn't know who the father of her baby is... listen, rey can love his child and be a wonderful father and still have no use for you. That is, if the baby's even his.

Mia: I don't want to expose the baby to anything unpleasant, so I won't yank your hair out, the real stuff, or the weave.

Sharon: Good. You should listen to those instincts because your child deserves to have an adult as a parent. Not some stunted hair-pulling adolescent.

Mia: You don't know me.

Sharon: Yes, I do. I've known you since the minute you showed at rey'S. You're not complicated, mia. Or deep. God knows I've met women like you before. You think that you feel more and you love deeply. You think that you're intense and deep and dramatic. Really, you're just tedious and exhausting. But I do believe that you're capable of love, and that's good. It's good for your baby.

Mia: My baby is none of your business.

Sharon: Oh, it is, since you left me that note on my door. But if you can't do the right thing, if you can't grow up, rey will be a great parent.

Mia: And, what, you'll be there by his side? Is this what you wanted? To steal another woman's husband? Maybe take the baby for your own. You tried to turn rey against me, and it won't work. Yes, we fight, but we come back stronger and more passionate than ever. Rey wants this. He needs me. I give him the excitement he's been dying for. What are you, meat loaf and mashed potatoes and asleep by 9?

[ Groans ]

Sharon: Are you okay?

Mia: Shut up, this is your fault.

Sharon: But the baby!

Mia: No, no, it's nothing.

[ Groans ]

Sharon: You need to go to the hospital.

Mariah: I don't have to do anything!

[ Groaning, panting ]

Sharon: Here.

Mia: What are you doing? You are not calling 911.

Sharon: No, I'm calling rey.

Mia: [ Scoffs ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Rey: Hello?

Sharon: Hey, rey. Mia is doubled over with stomach pains.

Mia: No, your side piece doesn't know what she's talking about!

Rey: All right, let me talk to her.

Sharon: [ Sighs ]

Mia: [ Scoffs ] Rey, she's overreacting.

Rey: Mia, you are going to the hospital now.

Mia: Rey, I don't want to go to the hospital. Rey!

Sharon: Come on! I'll help you.

Mia: [ Scoffs ]

Sharon: Let's go.

Mia: [ Scoffs, groans ]

Ana: You're in a big company, and I'm a very important person there.

Ana: She was one your artists, right? But then something went down. Plagiarism.

Devon: Exactly. Except now she's living with the woman who she stole the lyrics from.

Devon: Yeah, although everything has been settled, obviously.

Ana: So where do you come in?

Devon: Well, I come in because I just heard her newest song.

Ana: Must be good if we're even having this conversation.

Devon: I think that it could really go somewhere if it was in the right hands.

Devon: I do mean like those hands. But I know you have a lot on your plate.

Ana: Oh, please! You know I've been dying to prove myself. So just say I can.

Devon: Okay, well, don't think of this as me doing you a favor yet because tessa can kind of be a bit of a wild card.

Billy: You know, I'm not gonna lie, my ego took a hit. I thought I was the only one that could make you cut loose.

Victoria: No one can make me cut loose, billy. I either do, or I don'T.

Billy: I know, but I -- I'm just always the one standing beside you when you do.

Victoria: God, you're ridiculous. You always have a way of making it about you.

Billy: See, that's good. Let's keep going in this little thing here.

Victoria: Stop.

Billy: No, I'm serious. Talk to me, vick. Come on, tell me everything. We've in vegas, all right? What happens here...

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Billy: At least you can tell me all the things that, you know, you've wanted to say for a number of years that you've just been too polite not to.

Victoria: Do you really want to do this?

Billy: Yes, tell me all the things that I do that piss you off, that annoy you.

Victoria: No, I'm not playing.

Billy: Come on, I can take it, tell me.

Victoria: No! Stop.

Billy: Please. Let me have it.

Victoria: Ugh! You're a drama magnet! Billy, somehow, in your head, if there is no drama, then life is boring. It's an endless string of "meh" and "who cares?" You're reckless, you're irresponsible. You do not think about the consequences. And do you know what's most maddening of all? When you do own up to your mistakes, and you -- and you take the fault for it, you think you actually learned something about yourself, but then you just turn around and you do it all over again! And throughout all of it, you've broken my heart way too many times for me to count.

Billy: Yeah, I know. I have.

Victoria: I am...a mother of three children. Two of them are still so very young, but you are the one who never grows up. And I know you've been through so much. Thinking about what you've been through and survived is agony. And yet...

Billy: And yet I'm still the kid holding a lit firecracker. I thought I changed after dee dee. And I spun out. I mean, everybody knows that. But I made it out the other side. Just not much wiser. Not wise at all, actually. I don't look two steps ahead. Not like you.

Victoria: The thing is, I don't think you mean that as a compliment.

Billy: It's just the truth, though. I mean, you have been through hell. And you're -- and you're responsible and you're strong and kind. And I guess you have to be in order to prove yourself to your father, but...

[ Sighs ]

Victoria: No, I'm not -- I'm proving myself to the world because that's what it takes to be successful, and I am not gonna apologize for that, billy.

Billy: No, you just quietly spin out and hightail it to vegas and change your name.

Victoria: No, this trip had nothing to do with my family or my career, I just -- I just... I didn't want to be me for a while. Without my past, this past year, and my ex... he was broken when he came back into my life, and he almost broke me, too. And I just stood by and watched it. I didn't stop it. I don't trust my own judgment, billy. You know, coming here, it was fun for a while.

Billy: Then I crashed your party. What a buzzkill. Hey. Maybe I am changing.

Victoria: I guess that makes me the problem child now.

Billy: Yeah. You know, you're the calm to my chaos.

Victoria: Mm! And now it's back to being all about you.

Billy: You're the yin to my yang. The peanut butter to my jam. That's the way we work, okay? We balance each other out. We make each other better.

Mia: Hi.

I am dr. Burgh. The nurse tells me that your stomach pain has subsided. Is that correct?

Mia: It has. I'm sorry for wasting your time.

Oh, this is what my time is for. I do have some questions about your pregnancy, though.

Mia: Do we do this with an audience?

Mia: She's not my friend, and she needs to go.

Mia: I don't have a doctor anymore.

Mia: And tonight was nothing more than heartburn. That woman who was just in here, she likes to make a big deal out of things. It makes her feel important. It's a problem she has.

[ Chuckles ] Well, you're here now, so let's check you and that baby out.

Rey: Hey. Hey, is she in there?

Sharon: Oh, yeah. She's with the doctor. She's feeling better. She's not in pain.

Rey: Okay, thank you for making her come.

Sharon: Of course.

Mia: Rey. Thank god.

Rey: Hey.

Victoria: No. No! No, no, no. Billy, we do not make each other better. We make each other crazy.

Billy: Why does there have to be a difference? Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on a second. Come on. We've had some moments.

Victoria: Some very ugly and terrible moments.

Billy: Some beautiful, amazing, great moments.

Victoria: Stop, billy.

Billy: What?

Victoria: I know that look.

Billy: You know all my looks.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] You cannot actually be thinking that you would...

Billy: Yes, I am. We can do this. Hey, we can. I mean, not that. I mean, we can do that, but I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about us. We can get back together, drive each other crazy till the end of time.

Victoria: You need to slow down, way down.

Billy: Why?

Victoria: Because have you seen my life lately? It's chaos. I can't do it. I can't take any more pain. I just -- I don't have it in me.

Billy: Is that how you see me? I bring pain into your life?

Victoria: No, you know i don'T. I just -- I just -- I can't start something new right now.

Billy: Well, lucky we're old news, then.

Victoria: That doesn't make any sense.

Billy: It does make sense, vick. We're end game, okay? That's it. That's all. We have been ever since we drank rum on the beach in jamaica. We get a little frazzled on the edges, but, you know, we never unravel. That's us.

Victoria: You're going way too fast.

Billy: Well, that's unfortunate, because I read the end of the book, and it's us together. But you know that already, don't you?

Victoria: I don't know that.

Billy: Yeah, you do. I want to give you the life that you don't want to run away from.

Victoria: Billy, we've tried.

Billy: Well, we need to try again.

Victoria: How are we gonna do that?

Billy: Because I believe in us. I do. And you need to, too.

Mariah: Okay.

Tessa: Okay, this is weird.

Mariah: No, this isn't weird. This is peaceful.

Tessa: Sharon would hate it.

Mariah: Sharon isn't gonna give it two thoughts, I promise you. And if ana wants to meet now, then that's exactly what we're gonna do.

Mariah: Don't say that.

Tessa: He's handing me to his little sister.

Mariah: She's his right hand. That's a very big deal.

Tessa: Okay, you're right. You're right, you're right. Yeah, you're right.

[ Knocks on door ]

Mariah: Hi!

Ana: Hey.

Mariah: Ana, this is tessa porter.

Tessa: Hi. It's really nice to meet you.

Ana: You, too. So, why are we meeting here?

Mariah: Well, this is the place that tessa was discovered when she first came to town.

Ana: I heard some of your old music, but I understand you're going in a new direction?

Tessa: Uh, yeah. It's, uh -- it's evolving. And I guess I am, too.

Ana: So, I know devon heard a recording, but I'd like to hear you live.

Mariah: Absolutely. Yeah, she is totally, totally ready for that. So why don't you, uh, sit down, make yourself comfortable? You've got this. You can do it.

Tessa: [ Sighs ] You're the reason.

Mariah: No, I just pressed "record" and made a phone call.

Tessa: Not this. For everything good in my life, you are the reason.

Mia: This is more stressful than the heartburn. I just want to go home and get in bed. Please, get me out of here.

Rey: I know. Okay, okay. We need to check on the baby first. Is everything okay, or...?

We'll do an ultrasound to make sure.

Mia: I already had one of those. Tell them we don't need one of these.

Rey: Hey, hey. I know you're scared, all right? So am I. This is the only way we find out. Lay back.

Just lay back. I'm sorry.

Mia: [ Sighs ]

Rey: Shh, shh, shh, shh.

There we go. Your baby's heartbeat.

Rey: [ Laughs ]

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Billy: Because I'm so mature, you should probably check to see if you need to get that.

Victoria: Might be the kids.

Billy: You're right. Get it.
