Episode #11580 ~ Cane gets a reality check; Abby stands her ground.
Provided By Suzanne
Previously on "the young and the restless"...Lily: I have been locked in here. He's been telling me that everything is fine. And this whole time, he's been cheating on me with victoria?
Billy: No, as far as victoria says, it hasn't gone beyond kissing.
Tessa porter, you're under arrest for extortion.
Kyle: Are you and arturo having problems?
Abby: No, not anymore. No. I broke up with him. And then I smashed the windshield of his pickup into a million itty-bitty, tiny pieces.
[ Laughs ]
J.T.: They told me about the tumor. I don't know what else I can do except apologize.
Victoria: I can't forget. I can't forget any of it.
Victoria: [ Grunts ] Let go of me, J.T.
J.T.: You think I'm weak and pathetic?
Victoria: I said let go.
[ Grunts ]
[ Fist thuds ] Aah!
J.T.: Victoria, it's me. It's okay. I'm gonna keep you safe.
[ Fist thudding ]
Victoria: You're lying. Get away from me.
J.T.: No. I'm telling you the truth. All that rage and violence, it wasn't me. I didn't mean to scare you.
Victoria: You hurt me.
J.T.: I-I was sick, okay, but that's all over now. Everything is okay.
Reed: It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. It's okay. Mom, it's okay.
Victoria: [ Exclaims ]
Reed: It's okay, mom.
Victoria: [ Breathing hard ]
Abby: Greg? Nick? "Meeting moved up an hour." Maybe they're in the conference room. What in the world?
Arturo: They're for you.
Abby: You did this?
[ Sighs ]
Arturo: It's a big apology for a real big screw-up.
Abby: There aren't enough flowers in the world to make up for what you did.
Arturo: Abby -- abby, please, please. Just -- just wait, please. Just -- just hear me out.
Mariah: I mean, seriously, you cannot write this stuff. So, they buried J.T. Over an old storm drain, and then he ends up in the river -- alive.
Tessa: I mean, it's not my first choice for come-back-from-the-dead, but it's a win for sharon and the others.
Mariah: Yeah, I'm gonna take a win on this. Because sharon is free, and it's all over, finally.
Tessa: For them, anyway.
Mariah: Hey. I haven't forgotten about your blackmail charges, okay?
Tessa: No, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to put a damper on the mood.
Mariah: No, you didn'T. You didn'T.
Tessa: This is a cause for celebration.
Mariah: And we will be celebrating again once you are exonerated. I promise.
Tessa: Uh, well, I don't know how many free passes the D.A. Is giving away. It's probably not very good for her reputation.
Mariah: Tessa, you don't deserve to be the sacrificial lamb in all of this. And I think I know somebody who can prevent that. Michael! Hi. I want to hire you to represent tessa. I don't care how much it costs. Money's not an object.
Michael: Good morning. I'm great, thank you for asking.
Tessa: Good morning, michael. Ignore the woman with the blank check.
Mariah: Seriously. I don't care what it costs.
Michael: That's a very interesting proposition, but you really don't have to worry about this --
Mariah: Look, there is no reason that you can't take tessa's case. You're not representing nikki and victoria anymore, so there's no conflict of interest.
Michael: That's true. That's true. But, really, you don't have --
Mariah: And -- and her public defender is great. He's great. But there's just... you get what you pay for.
Tessa: Well, speaking of, I would be paying. Granted, I would probably have to do a payment plan.
Michael: No, no. But you'd be wasting your money.
Tessa: Are things that bad?
Michael: No! No, no, no. They're that good. I just left the courthouse. Christine has filed a motion to drop all the charges against you.
Cane: [ Sighs ]

Victoria: I was -- [ Sighs ] I thought you were just part of this dream that I was having.
Reed: No. I'm really here.
Victoria: [ Sighs ] Come here. [ Chuckles ] Oh! I'm glad. I'm so glad.
Reed: Um... johnny and katie home?
Victoria: They spent the night at billy'S.
Reed: [ Sighs ] Good. 'Cause, um... we need to talk about what happened with you and dad.
Victoria: How did you hear about that?
Victoria: Oh, man. Of course. The news.
Reed: You two are trending. Not in a good way.
Victoria: Baby, you know how the press can be. They have a way of putting their own spin on things.
Reed: Yeah, well, it would have been nice to hear your spin on it.
Victoria: I was gonna call you.
Reed: When?
Victoria: [ Sighs ] As soon as I figured out how to explain what happened, reed.
Reed: Billy didn't have any problem explaining it to me.
Victoria: Yeah, no. He's been really wonderful through all of this. I know.
Reed: Yeah. He's always been there for me.
Victoria: I'm glad. I know this is all very difficult for you to deal with.
Reed: [ Scoffs ] What part? The part about dad being alive, or the part where he came back from the dead to kill you and grandma?
Victoria: Listen. Your dad has been very sick.
Reed: Yeah. I heard. Brain tumor. Do you think the D.A.'S gonna let him off of -- what? -- Four attempted murders now because of it?
Victoria: I don't know.
Reed: Don't you think you should?
Victoria: I want to believe that your father's illness is what caused his violent behavior.
Reed: But you're not sure. That's what your nightmare was about, wasn't it? You're still afraid of him.
Victoria: Reed, I just wish that you didn't have to know about any of this.
Reed: I'm not a kid anymore, mom!
Victoria: I know. I know you're not. But a mother never wants to stop protecting her children, reed.
Reed: Oh, so you thought lies and secrets was the best way to go about doing that?
Victoria: Maybe I was wrong to keep this from you. But I did it out of love.
Reed: Ugh. This is so messed up.
Victoria: I know it is. Just let me help you make peace with it somehow.
Reed: Make peace? My life is a mess, and you want me to make peace with it?! Could never happen.
Charlie: Hey. Who was at the door?
Cane: It's not important.
Mattie: The look on your face says otherwise.
Cane: Oh, I just, um... I just have a lot on my mind. You know, between work and your college acceptances.
Mattie: Is that what that is? A rejection letter for one of us?
Cane: No. No, baby, it's not a rejection letter.
Mattie: Is it about mom?
Charlie: Did something happen to her?
Cane: Listen, your mom's okay. I mean, physically she's okay.
Charlie: What does that mean?
Mattie: Dad, what's going on?
Cane: Your mom's filed for divorce.
Abby: You had my assistant, greg, tell me the meeting had been moved up, and that's why no one else is here.
Arturo: [ Sniffles ] I was afraid you wouldn't show if you knew it was me.
Abby: You used my assistant to trick me into coming.
Arturo: Please don't be mad at greg, okay? He still thinks we're together.
Abby: I'll set him straight.
Arturo: You won't have to if you just give me a moment --
Abby: Do you think a few flowers are gonna change my mind?
Arturo: No. No. But I think that they'll soften you up so that I could --
Abby: What part of your brain thinks that I could ever forgive you for what you did?
Arturo: Abby, I made a mistake.
Abby: That doesn't even begin to describe it.
Arturo: I should have never slept with mia.
Abby: And I should have never gotten involved with a lying, backstabbing, serial cheater.
Arturo: You're right. Okay? I am all of those things. And I hate myself for what I did to you. But I swear that I have changed.
Abby: You are still the same sleaze you were in miami.
Arturo: Abby, I am not. Okay? Before I met you, I didn't even believe in a committed relationship, okay? I wanted absolutely nothing to do with marriage.
Abby: Unless you count sleeping with a married woman.
Arturo: [ Scoffs ] I made some bad choices. Really bad choices.
Abby: Mm-hmm.
Arturo: But then you came into my life, and you made me realize that love lasts. Abby, our love can last. And I'm just asking you to give me one chance to prove it.
Abby: Why should I?
Arturo: Because I can't give up on us. And n-- not even after what you did to my poor, innocent truck. I will regret forever sleeping with mia. But it taught me something.
Abby: I can't wait to hear this.
Arturo: [ Sighs ] You... you're my everything, abby. And if you'll give me the opportunity, I will show you that I can leave my old ways behind and be the man you deserve. I know I made a huge mistake, and "sorry" doesn't even come close to covering it.
Abby: You got that right.
[ Inhales sharply ] I know you've done things you regret. Nobody's perfect. But I believe, and I know in my heart, abby, that you and i are perfect for each other. And I am begging you. I am begging you with everything to please, just please give us one chance. I promise you won't regret it.
Arturo: Babe, I know we can make this work. Okay? I-I just -- I need you to tell me you feel the same way, and -- and we can get past the rest.
Abby: [ Laughs ]
Arturo: Abby?
Abby: Oh! [ Laughing ]
[ Exclaims ] The flowers. The apology. Ugh. You're too much.
[ Chuckles ]
Arturo: Does that mean that...?
Abby: [ Sighs ] "A" for effort. Yeah, the whole story, I mean, it's very believable. How you've changed. That I'm the love of your life. You almost convinced me. If only I didn't know the truth.
Arturo: I meant every word.
Abby: You never loved me.
Arturo: Yes, I do.
Abby: You might love the idea of me.
Arturo: No.
Abby: You loved having a pretty, blond, blue-eyed heiress on your arm as you climbed the social ladder into the world of the rich and famous.
Arturo: Abby, I never felt that way --
Abby: And you definitely loved that I wasn't married to your brother. But there's no way in hell you will ever convince me that you loved me for me.
Arturo: Don't say that.
Abby: We are done, arturo. Finished. End of story.
Mattie: Why would mom do that?
Charlie: Good question.
Mattie: I mean, it's not like you guys have had some big fight or something. You've hardly been up to see her. Maybe that's it. Maybe she feels like you've abandoned her.
Cane: She knows I would never do that.
Mattie: Okay, well, something upset her.
Cane: Sweetheart, it's just, you know... when people go to prison, you know... sometimes we forget how it changes a person.
Mattie: You think that's what drove her to do this? The strain of prison life?
Cane: I don't know. Maybe.
Charlie: Maybe it was something else. Something you don't want to tell us.
Mattie: Like what?
Charlie: You know, don't you?
Mattie: Dad?
Cane: Guys, I did something that hurt your mom.
Mattie: Something that caused her to file for a divorce?
Charlie: Obviously.
Cane: Yeah. She's, uh... she's upset with me right now.
Mattie: Okay, well... you're gonna get past it, right? I mean, you've faced bad stuff before and gotten through it.
Charlie: Yeah, I get the feeling that's not gonna happen this time.
Tessa: So, there's no chance they'll re-file the charges?
[ Exclaims ] Thank you. Thank you, robert. I appreciate everything you've done for me.
Mariah: So michael was right?
Tessa: The charges have been dismissed with prejudice.
Michael: Uh-huh. Of course I'm right. Now, it doesn't sound good, but it is. I means the case has been dropped.
Mariah: Well, thank you very much, michael, but it looks like we will not be [Chuckles] Needing your services.
Michael: That's one job I'm glad to lose.
Tessa: It's over.
Mariah: How do you feel?
Tessa: Sort of amazing?
[ Both screaming ]
Tessa: [ Laughs ] Oh, my god.
Michael: She's -- she's free. She's free.
Victoria: I know you're confused and angry. I know that. But I will do whatever it takes to help you get through this.
Reed: Why did you give me up when I was little?
Victoria: What? I didn'T. Normally in a divorce, the kid goes with his mom. But you let dad take me.
Victoria: Well, the judge awarded your dad full custody. The day he moved you to D.C. Was the worst day of my entire life.
Reed: Is that why you let me think he was dead? So you could get back at him?
Victoria: [ Sighs ] No.
Reed: You made me think that he abandoned me like you had.
Victoria: Reed, this wasn't about payback. I hated seeing you suffer, but I just wanted to give you some hope.
Reed: It was false hope.
Victoria: I -- [ Sighs ] I could not bring myself to tell you what happened in my bedroom that night. I just couldn'T.
Reed: Because you were trying to protect yourself and grandma.
Victoria: Because I was trying to protect you. I -- [ Huffs ] I couldn't bear the thought of you thinking of your father as an abusive person. I wanted you to still believe that he was a good man.
Reed: Even though you didn't?
[ Sighs ]
Victoria: I just didn't understand why your father was acting the way that he was. I mean, I was completely scared, reed.
Reed: What about grandma?
Victoria: Grandma? I talked to your father yesterday, and... he doesn't blame her for what she did.
Reed: He said that?
Victoria: He wanted me to tell you that he takes full responsibility for everything that's happened. Honey, just tell me what you're thinking right now, please.
Reed: [ Scoffs ] I was so mad at you and grandma for what you did, but... now, to think that dad would let you two go to prison for something you didn't do... I mean, he's my dad. He's the person I'm supposed to look up to and want to be like.
Victoria: Well, now that he's gotten the medical attention that he needs, then maybe -- maybe he can be that person again.
Reed: Do you really think we could get back to what we had?
Victoria: I don't know, baby. That's a decision you're gonna have to make on your own.
Reed: I'm gonna have to see him.
Victoria: Okay. If you're ready.
Reed: I am.
Arturo: I'm not giving up on us.
Abby: Fun fact -- it doesn't matter.
Arturo: I'm gonna prove to you that you're wrong about me.
Abby: Oh, yeah. I -- I was wrong. I thought that you were a decent, faithful man that i could build a life with. But now I know the real you.
Arturo: I screwed up. Royally.
Abby: [ Scoffs ] You know, over and over and over. Gosh, I am -- I'm so stupid. I was so blinded by love that I didn't see the big "sleazebag" tattoo that you had across your back.
Arturo: Babe, I never lied about my feelings for you.
Abby: The red flags, they couldn't have been bigger or -- or redder.
[ Scoffs ] I mean, gosh, the first alarm was you sleeping with my stepmother. But no, no. I got past it. Like I did with everyone else that -- that's ever lied and cheated on me.
Arturo: I never meant to hurt you.
Abby: Oh. Really? Is that why you chose not to sleep with mia? Oh, wait! [ Laughs ] Oh, wait, you didn't choose that, did you? No, you decided that sleeping with her was worth throwing away everything that we had.
Arturo: Mia means nothing to me!
Abby: You have no idea how insulting that is to all parties involved.
Arturo: [ Huffs ] I'm just trying to say the right thing.
Abby: Well, you know what? Epic fail.
[ Laughs ] You know, I may have lousy judgment in men, but I am not stupid. Everything you did was because of her.
Arturo: That's not true.
Abby: You told me that you loved me after you cheated on me with her.
[ Scoffs ] You proposed to me when she was renewing her vows to your brother!
Arturo: I was overcome with love --
Abby: With her! Not me.
Arturo: That's not true.
Abby: Not me! Look, you were looking at me, but you were thinking about her.
Arturo: No, abby. It's always been you.
Abby: [ Sighs ] Stop lying. Stop lying, arturo.
Arturo: I'm not lying!
Abby: To yourself a-and to me.
Arturo: No, I'm telling the truth. Abby, you are the only woman that I want.
Abby: Yeah? I give it a week before you're back in mia's bed.
Cane: I know things look bad, all right, but I am not giving up on our marriage.
Charlie: You can't stop mom from divorcing you.
Mattie: You still haven't told us why she wants to.
Cane: Because it's a private matter, that's why, okay?
Charlie: If you two are breaking up, it affects us.
Cane: All right, I know this, charlie, I do. All right? But when a decision is made, I will let you know. But until then, all you need to know is, is I'm gonna fix this. All right?
Mattie: Nobody wants that more than us. Right, charlie?
Charlie: We've been through this before!
Cane: Okay --
Charlie: Separations and cheating. Hmm. Maybe this latest thing is...
Cane: Is what? What are you saying? It's what? What is it, charlie?
Charlie: Maybe it's a sign you and mom shouldn't be together.
Cane: Oh, come on.
Mattie: That's crazy.
Cane: Thank you.
Mattie: Of course they should, charlie!
Charlie: I know mom and dad love each other, but sometimes that's not enough. Maybe mom decided she was finally tired of getting hurt.
Cane: Hey. Hey --
Mattie: Mom wouldn't break up our family.
Charlie: She would if she thought it was the best thing for all of us.
Mattie: Okay, well, I don't believe that.
Cane: Right. Neither do I, okay? And all you have to know is I'm gonna figure this out, all right? I will fight for this family.
Victoria: Are you sure you want to do this?
Reed: Yeah. Yeah, I'm sure.
Victoria: [ Sighs ] Okay.
J.T.: Hey.
Reed: Hey. Um... how you doing?
J.T.: Well [Sighs] The doc says I'll be good as new in a few days, so...
Reed: That's good.
Victoria: Reed wanted to -- he wanted to see you and talk to you.
J.T.: Yeah. Of course.
Victoria: I'll leave you two alone.
Reed: I don't -- I don't know how to start.
J.T.: [ Sighs ] I'll go first. Look, I-I'm -- "I'm sorry"... just doesn't seem like it's enough. I don't know if anything is. I can't ever make up for the pain that I caused you and... your siblings and your mom. I-I let all you guys down. I know that.
Reed: You were sick, dad.
J.T.: The doctors can't make a direct link between
[Sighs] My illness and the violent behavior. I don't know what was me and what was the tumor.
Reed: You were a really good dad before all of this.
J.T.: I tried.
Reed: [ Snorts softly ] When I t it felt like somebody just unplugged my life.
J.T.: Well, now's your chance to plug it back in.
Reed: So much has happened.
J.T.: I know, man. I know. I --
[ Sighs ] I-I can't change the past.
[ Sighs ] The future's up to you.
Reed: [ Scoffs ] No pressure there.
J.T.: [ Murmurs ]
[ Scoffs ] I don't blame you if you don't want anything to do with me. But I would love... I would love the opportunity to get back what we had.
Reed: [ Sighs ] How are we gonna do that, dad?
J.T.: We can hang out.
[ Sighs ] We can play guitar.
Reed: [ Chuckles ] I can't wait.
J.T.: [ Exhales heavily ] Neither can I. dental insurance. Many employers don't offer it. Medicare doesn't include it. And people who work for themselves often don't consider it. will continue.
J.T.: Thanks for bringing reed here.
Victoria: Well, like I said, it was his idea.
J.T.: Yeah, but you could have discouraged him.
Reed: [ Chuckles quietly ]
Victoria: I think it's time to move on.
J.T.: I put you guys through a lot.
Victoria: It's in the past. Let's just leave it there.
J.T.: I'd like that. But...
Victoria: What?
J.T.: Are you okay? You don't look so good.
Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Yeah. Thanks.
J.T.: I'm just worried about you.
Victoria: Well, I'm -- I'm fine.
Jeffrey todd hellstrom?
Reed: Wh-- hey! You guys can't just bust in here. This is my dad's hospital room.
You're under arrest for the attempted murder of victor newman.
Reed: Wh-what?! No, you can't do that! He's got to recover.
He will -- at the county infirmary.
Reed: This is insane!
Victoria: Reed --
Reed: No. No! I just got my dad back! I can't lose you again!
J.T.: It's okay. All right?
Reed: No, it's not! This isn't fair!
J.T.: Reed, I don't want to lose you, either, okay, but I -- I got to answer for what I've done. Just let the cops do their job.
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law.
Cane: Thank you for coming over.
Michael: Well, you sounded pretty upset over the phone. I figured the divorce papers had arrived.
Cane: I need answers, michael.
Michael: Well, perhaps you should speak to lily.
Cane: Yeah, but she won't take my calls. She's taken me off of the visitors list. I just -- I just need to know what's going on.
Michael: [ Sighs ] Well, these papers kind of speak for themselves.
Cane: No, they don't tell me what's going through her mind. They don't tell me, is she angry at me, is she impulsive, is she just lashing out?
Michael: Look, you know I'm bound by attorney-client privilege.
Cane: I don't care about you attorney-client privilege! I don'T. All I want to know is, is there a way that I can save my marriage?
Mariah: Here you go. To...
Tessa: We're toasting with cupcakes?
Mariah: Well, we'll break out the bubbly later, but this will have to do for now.
Tessa: All right. Well, let's raise a cupcake, then.
Mariah: To our amazing future. What? What? No, no, no. This is -- this is supposed to be a happy toast.
Tessa: No, I-I am happy. It's just been a really long time since I've been able to think about the future.
Mariah: Well, now you can give it your full attention. So, what do you want to do first?
Mariah: Second?
Tessa: Uh...
Mariah: Third? Come on! You got to make a list!
[ Laughs ]
Tessa: I don't know! There's just so much. Um... uh, well, first I would like to go through the things I don't want to do anymore.
Mariah: Okay. That's a little odd. But you know what, it's your future. So what do you not want to do?
Tessa: Um... blackmail. Steal. Lie. Um... hide duffel bags full of cash. You know, generally just not be a horrible person.
Mariah: Hey. You were never a horrible person. You just did some horrible things.
Tessa: Well, my days of grifting and being a con artist are over. I just really want to move forward.
Mariah: That's fantastic. So, what do you want to do first?
[ Sighs ] Italy? Bora bora? Mount everest?
Tessa: Um... genoa city
Mariah: Wisconsin?
Tessa: Yeah. All that talk of traveling the world was fun. It was a great distraction when I needed to escape my reality. But I don't need to do that anymore. Because... because my reality is amazing.
Mariah: That's nice. That's really, really nice.
Tessa: You are all I need to be happy.
Mariah: Well, fine. Then that settles it for your personal life. What about the rest?
Tessa: Well, as soon as lola's recovered, I'll wait tables at abby's new restaurant.
Mariah: Okay.
Tessa: "Okay" what?
Mariah: Well, I kind of meant... what do you want out of life? And I get that you're trying to slow your roll...
Tessa: [ Clears throat ]
Mariah: ...I do, but I just get the feeling that an employee of the month placard isn't gonna be enough for you.
Tessa: For now it will be.
Mariah: What about your music? You're just gonna give that up completely?
Tessa: I miss song writing, but let's face it -- I screwed up any chance I may have had to have a music career.
Mariah: Okay. Name one music star that hasn't had a scandal. Yeah. That's right. You can'T. And you know what they say, you know -- any publicity is good publicity.
Tessa: Oh, well, I should be a huge success then.
Mariah: Yes, you should. And you could be. So pick up your guitar. Start writing.
Tessa: I don't know.
Mariah: Come on. You've got one shot at this life thing, so do what makes you happy.
Tessa: You're right.
Mariah: What are you doing?
[ Music plays ]
Tessa: I am taking your advice...
Mariah: What?
Tessa: ...And doing what makes me happy.
I can do anything
I can go anywhere
I've got the open road
I've got the wind in my hair
Arturo: What happened with mia was a one-time thing.
Abby: It doesn't matter, arturo. Were done. Finished.
Arturo: Abby, we can have a great life together.
Abby: Yeah, I am gonna have a great life. All on my own. Oh, um, you know, I-I talked to nick earlier, and I was gonna let him tell you, but I think I'll do the honors. You're fired.
Reed: Well, I'll call michael, dad. We can fight this.
J.T.: No, I'm not gonna fight it. I'm gonna plead guilty.
Reed: No! Why?
J.T.: I hurt your grandfather.
Reed: Y-you were sick! I mean, you didn't know what you were doing. We'll have dr. Hastings explain that to the jury and -- you'll testify, right, mom?
J.T.: I-I -- I would never ask your mom to do that.
Reed: This is so wrong.
J.T.: Reed, what kind of father would I be if I didn't take responsibility for my mistakes?
Reed: Doesn't mean you have to go to prison.
J.T.: No, I deserve to be punished for what I did. And not just to victor. To your mom. I was abusive. And I'm gonna think about that every day.
All set.
J.T.: Stay strong.
Victoria: Honey... talk to me.
Reed: [ Scoffs ] Now you want to talk?
Victoria: I know you're upset.
Reed: For a year, you didn't have a word to say about my dad. And now that he's being ripped away from me, you want me to open up?
Victoria: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have kept the truth from you. I was just scared. I just thought it was too much for a boy your age, that's all.
Reed: That right there is your problem. You still see me like a kid.
Victoria: No, that's not true.
Reed: Then stop treating me like one! I've seen more crap in my life than most adults. Quit acting like I need to be protected.
Victoria: I know, baby. I know you're upset. Just come home with me and we'll talk about it, okay?
Reed: No.
Victoria: Please.
Reed: I'm done running home to mommy.
Michael: I can't reveal what lily and I talked about, but I can tell you she was very calm and rational when she asked me to draw up these divorce papers.
Cane: That doesn't mean that she won't change her mind.
Michael: Well, I'm not gonna give you any false hope. My impression is, lily's ready to move on.
Cane: But I'm not.
Michael: Well, frankly, your actions lead me to believe otherwise, even if you're not ready to admit it.
Cane: Okay, michael, listen. Lily and I have faced huge problems before, and we've got past them. And we can get past this one, okay?
Michael
Michael: Lily doesn't agree.
Cane: Well, I need just to see her, just to be face-to-face with her.
Michael: No, I'm sorry. Cane, I'm sorry.
Cane: Convince her to see me. Please do that for me. Please.
Michael: [ Sighs ]
Cane: Please, michael.
Michael: I'll try.
Cane: Thank you.
Michael: I am not promising you anything.
Cane: I know. I understand. Thank you. Okay.
Mattie: You heard dad -- he said everything's gonna be okay.
Charlie: He said the same thing when he got juliet pregnant.
Mattie: Yeah, and it was.
Charlie: You can't expect her to keep forgiving him.
Mattie: You don't know that he cheated on her again.
Charlie: Why else would mom file for divorce?
Mattie: Maybe she feels guilty about making him wait.
Charlie: You think that's why mom would blow the family up?
Mattie: Well, it's better than the alternative, charlie.
Charlie: Look, whatever mom and dad are going through right now, it's not good. And I doubt we've seen the worst of it.
Mattie: What do you mean?
Charlie: Mom's in prison right now. Eventually, she's gonna get out. What do you think is gonna happen then?

Abby: I hate to bust up date night, but, mariah, can I talk to you for a second?
Mariah: Can this wait?
Abby: No. It can'T.
Mariah: Actually, let me rephrase that -- it'll have to wait.
Abby: It's important.
Mariah: So is this.
Abby: No, see, this -- this is a colossal mistake that will end in an epic flame-out of heartbreak and pain.
Mariah: Wow. Abby, you really know how to suck the life out of a room.
Abby: Look, if you want to go down this doomed path of romance, have at it. But I need to talk to you about things that actually matter.
Mariah: Oh, you mean matter to you?
Abby: To both of us.
Tessa: It's okay, mariah. Go ahead.
Mariah: Fine. But this better be good.
Arturo: Trust me. It's everything.
Cane: [ Sniffles ]
Mattie: Oh, my gosh, mom, that smells so good.
Charlie: Yeah, it does. What time's it gonna be done?
Mattie: Yeah, what time is dad getting home?
Charlie: That's a good question.
Mattie: Well, he's coming home to an amazing dinner.
Cane: [ Sighs ]

Abby: I want a major media blitz on my new restaurant opening.
Mariah: The one without a name?
Abby: Newman is the only name you need to garner the kind of publicity that I'm looking for.
Mariah: That's true.
Abby: I want it featured on the "gc buzz." A whole episode.
Mariah: Okay. Well, I'll talk to my producer.
Abby: If you can't do that, at least feature it. A lead story. And I want it all over your website. I want this thing blasted all over every social platform.
Mariah: Okay, okay. Abby, but before I do anything, I'm going to have to talk to my actual boss.
Abby: I cleared it with devon.
Mariah: All the same --
Abby: Mariah, I need this done, and fast. So just do what I'm asking you to do.
Mariah: Since you're being so polite about it.
Tessa: I'm kind of surprised you're going ahead with all of this. Lola just had major surgery.
Abby: Lola is fine and ready to work.
Tessa: Really?
Abby: Okay, can both of you just please stop asking questions? My new restaurant is opening, and it is going to blow this town up. It'll be like nothing gc has ever seen.
Mariah: I don't doubt that.
Abby: And everyone will know that abby newman isn't just some empty-headed, gullible princess that people can push around and take advantage of.
Mariah: New you, huh?
Abby: Oh, you ain't seen nothin' yet.
[ Sighs ]
Arturo: [ Sighs ]
Arturo: Huh. What's this?
Greg: Abby asked me to pack up your things.
Arturo: Seriously?
Greg: She wants you out of here today.
Victoria: Reed?
[ Sighs ] Oh, god.
