Lola: "Please join me for a romantic valentine's day celebration at the abbott cabin." Then I guess we're on different tracks.

Mia: When I turned to arturo, it was because I thought you didn't care anymore. It wasn't until you found out and were in so much pain that i realized how wrong I was.

Nikki: My husband did not kill J.T., I did!

Rey: Nikki newman, you are under arrest for the murder of J.T. Hellstrom.

Phyllis: Thank god. I tried you a million times on the way back from chicago. I got your message that you stayed at the ranch last night. How bad?

Nick: I thought it couldn't get any worse, and then it did.

Phyllis: And you said that victor's trial was postponed, but that's it. I tried victoria's cell a million times.

Nick: Yeah, she was with me and dad. We thought it would be best if we stay off our phones.

Phyllis: What happened to victor's court date?

Nick: They couldn't start the trial because mom confessed to killing J.T.

Billy: Oh, who's gonna buy that?

Victoria: The police arrested her.

Billy: So what is she thinking? Is this some kind of hail mary to try and stall things, or what?

Victoria: I don't know. Seems like something mom might do.

Billy: Well, the police haven't made a statement, so maybe they're afraid, or something.

Victoria: Of?

Billy: Of making it look like they don't have a handle on the case. A mogul gets arrested, now his wife is in the cell, too?

Victoria: No, I don't know. I'm really having a hard time understanding any of this.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Okay, well, you should get some rest, and I'll get out of here.

Victoria: I can'T. I just -- I have too much adrenaline right now.

Billy: Okay, well, you sit there and you stay awake, and... I will sit here, just in case you need anything.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I don't know what I need.

Sharon: What's going on? The press are swarming outside. I thought victor's trial was delayed.

Rey: Sharon, I'm glad you're here. Can we -- for privacy?

Sharon: Of course.

Rey: Thank you.

Sharon: Is this about that audio clip? Did christine delay the trial to try to force a plea deal? Because I don't see victor agreeing to that.

Rey: You haven't spoken to nick or anybody else.

Sharon: What's going on?

Rey: We need to talk about the party at victoria's house.

Sharon: We've gone over that night a dozen times.

Rey: I need to hear it again. Every minute.

Sharon: But why?

Rey: Because nikki confessed to killing J.T.

Mariah: Lola! Hey! Special delivery.

Lola: What are these?

Mariah: These are heart cookies for valentine's day. Tessa and I thought that we were gonna make, uh, cards last night, you know, with big cupids and arrows, but that involved a lot of glitter and a lot of glue, so we decided on something sweet because sugar always helps, and I sound dorkier by the second.

[ Laughs ] So, here. That's okay, right? I mean, it's fine to be gross and over-the-top for your first valentine's day as a couple. I mean, I can't imagine what kyle has planned. Actually, I can. I think it's probably something romantic and over-the-top, but, uh... that's for you guys. You can share from your double-date buddies.

Lola: Mariah, kyle and i broke up.

Jack: Oh! Just the man I've been looking for. Um, forgive the interference. I made sure that the cabin is stocked for your visit there with lola. I also had them add some valentine's-appropriate trimming for the atmosphere.

Kyle: That's great. I appreciate it, but, uh...

Jack: This does not sound encouraging.

Kyle: I blew it. Or we did together. Whatever happened, it's really over with lola.

Mariah: Kyle is an embarrassment. He is, and I can't believe that I am friends with a guy who is such a guy. But he loves you. And I know he was hoping you two could work things out.

Lola: Well, he did try. I mean, he made this big invitation to go on a romantic trip together, and he made sure that I knew that it wasn't just about sex, that it was about being together and having some alone time.

Mariah: Oh. Yeah, wow, that sounds, um... terrible. I'm sorry, I don't get it.

Lola: Well, it was just obvious that we want different things. I mean, he always has to make a show with these grand gestures.

Mariah: Like tessa singing outside your window, which was also...terrible? I'm still confused.

Lola: Look, we just have different priorities, okay? I have a job and a restaurant about to open, and kyle just doesn't understand that I can't just run off to the woods with him.

Mariah: How close are you guys to opening?

Lola: Close enough. What I'm saying is that I have things that I need to do that no one else can because that's what it means to be in charge of a menu. And... that just doesn't seem to register for kyle. Of course he can run off to his family's cabin, and I bet there will be chauffeur waiting and driving, and there would be champagne in the back seat. You know, and it's frustrating because... it's not about the money. It's just that I know that he thinks that these are the answers, and I know that they're not.

Mariah: So you're right, and he's wrong?

Lola: Oh, my god. Why is this so hard to explain?

Mariah: Maybe because there's no actual logic to what you're saying? No offense, you know, but you and kyle, you get into these arguments, and you take these breaks, and then he does something romantic and big, and you guys work it out, so... why wouldn't he try that again?

Lola: Well, that's the thing. There's always so much trying.

Mariah: Because kyle wants to be with you. And you work really, really hard, and you're busy, so you don't have a lot of time, and i get that, but kyle has to do these grand gestures just to get a little bit of time with you.

Lola: So now I'm selfish and demanding.

Mariah: No, you're driven, and that's amazing. But all kyle wants to do is support you and be with you, and do things for you that you probably wouldn't do for yourself. I think you like it. Unless I'm wrong. So the question is, lola -- when is it gonna be enough? When is kyle gonna have to stop fighting for your attention?

Victoria: [ Sighs ]

Billy: It's a lot, okay?

Victoria: My mom is in a jail cell, and my dad is at home with ankle monitor. And my son -- my son is gonna hear about all of this at some point, and it's just gonna dredge everything up again. All of those horrible feelings that his father is dead because of someone that reed loves. And johnny and katie -- they might have a grandparent in prison because of this. I think about my parents, i think about the kids, I think about the fact that there must be something that I can do to fix this, but... I can'T. I can't make it go away, and i pray -- I pray that I can do something, and then I'll have an answer. But an answer never comes.

[ Sighs ]

Billy: Tell me what happened with your mom.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] The police came to the ranch to escort my dad to the courthouse. Rey and christine were both there, and then, out of nowhere, my mom told them that they can't take my father because she's the one who killed J.T. After that, it was just -- it was insanity. The police took her away, and no one has seen my mom since then, only michael. And then, of course, rey wanted to interrogate me again, but he wouldn't tell me what my mother said.

Billy: So he thinks that you know something. Does he actually believe that nikki did this? Because it doesn't make sense to me, but... did she say anything to you about taking the fall for J.T.?

Victoria: I can't -- I can't tell you anything, billy. Not until I talk to my mother.

Rey: Yeah, no visitors other than counsel. And nikki newman's to remain in an isolated cell. Good.

Sharon: You arrested nikki? What about victor? What does christine think happened?

Rey: You're gonna have to let me talk at some point.

Sharon: Well, do you have new evidence?

Rey: What I have is a credible confession.

Sharon: Is nikki the only one you arrested?

Rey: Is there somebody else i could be arresting?

Sharon: I don't know. None of this sounds right. Nikki and then the trial delay, and now you want to talk about the night of the party again.

Rey: Because, according to nikki, that's the night she killed J.T.

Sharon: She said that?

Rey: And since I've heard several different versions of what happened that night...

Sharon: Have you spoken to the others? Phyllis and victoria? You know that mariah was asleep.

Rey: What matters to me right now is your version. Tell me what you know. Look, it's just you and me in here. I need to know what you know right now, because if I find out later, it might be too late for me to help you.

Sharon: I have no idea how J.T. Died. Maybe nikki knows something, or maybe she just panicked when she was thinking about her husband going to prison. I mean, unless you give me more details, I don't know how to help you.

Rey: Sharon. Sharon, you gave that audio recording of victor and nick. I know that couldn't have been easy for you, but you did it anyway. I'd like to think it's because you trust me.

Sharon: I don't know what nikki told you, but... I've already said everything that I saw that night. So... if we're done here, I should get back to work.

Billy: Look, there's a reason why michael's on retainer, okay? This is not your problem to fix.

Victoria: None of this would have happened if I hadn't brought J.T. Back in our lives.

Billy: J.T. Came here to spy on victor. Or do whatever the cops had him doing, okay? But he -- he had revenge on his mind from the get-go. So if there's anybody to blame for this, this is on J.T. He wasn't the same when he came back here, vick. He went dark, and clearly, somebody had enough. I don't know what happened. I don't know if it was nikki or victor who killed. I don't know if you do, either, but, at the same time, if it was your mother and she did it because of self-defense...

Victoria: I don't know.

Billy: Exactly. And all we can do right now is just brace for more information and stay strong because the truth will come out.

Phyllis: Nobody has actually spoken to nikki.

Nick: We can'T.

Phyllis: We need to find out if she's implicated anyone, nick.

Nick: From what I personally heard, she hasn't said it was anyone but herself.

Phyllis: That was before she was arrested. Once they haul her in and sit her down --

Nick: Look, I know what you want to hear, but I don't have any answers for you. Rey was about to march dad off to court, and then mom blurted out that it was all her.

Phyllis: Okay, I need to talk to vicki, I need to talk to sharon.

Nick: No, vick was up really late last night. I'm sure she's exhausted.

Phyllis: Well, I'm sure she is not sleeping, and if she was so upset that she couldn't call or text anyone, sharon might be clueless. I don't understand why nikki had to open her mouth!

Nick: You know why. She did it for dad.

Phyllis: And to hell with the rest of us.

Nick: Look, if you and the others were implicated, we would have heard about it by now.

Phyllis: Yeah, well, I guess I'm gonna find out if I get arrested on my way to the car!

Nick: Just stay put until we know more.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] We need to get our story straight!

Nick: Look, my mom is not gonna put victoria at risk, which means you and sharon are probably okay.

Phyllis: "Probably?" My life is depending on "probably," that's awesome.

Nick: Well, you're not sitting in a jail cell right now, so "probably" looks pretty damn good.

Phyllis: Okay, I'm sorry. I'm sorry, we're gonna figure this out, okay? We're gonna figure this out, and I just -- I need to talk to victoria, and I need to talk to sharon. That's the first step.

Nick: Okay. Do what you have to do.

Phyllis: Okay.

Kyle: Do you mind?

Jack: Oh, it's just a -- just...

Kyle: A little diamond tennis bracelet. Five carat, total weight?

Jack: Mm, seven, but who's counting?

Kyle: Oh. It's nice. It's good. And she won't tell you it's an insult to her entire world view, spending that kind of money on something like jewelry or a purse. Ah! And a note. You're writing a note.

Jack: It seems preferable to her thinking somebody else gave her the gift.

Kyle: I'm bitter. I'll get over it.

Jack: Look, why don't you come out with us?

Kyle: That's how pitiful i am. I got to pull myself together.

Jack: No, no, it's not like that. Kerry and I will have our own celebration of the holiday, and then we'll just hang out. She gets a real kick out of you.

Kyle: Dad. I love you. You're making it so much worse.

Jack: Am I, really?

Kyle: Go have fun with the other happy couples. I'm gonna head to the abbott cabin.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, you're going alone?

Kyle: Video games and a six-pack. This single young man knows how to party down.

Mariah: Look, I get not knowing what to do about kyle. He's a lot. But you said yes to that first date with him because he made you laugh, and he looked at you like you were the greatest thing ever, and he has worked hard to prove to you that he's not just some obnoxious trust fund kid. And then you said, "hey, man, no sex."

Lola: And that was such a hardship. I mean, what a saint for staying with me and respecting my boundaries. He's so amazing. Let's give him a medal.

Mariah: That is not what I'm saying. What I'm saying is all kyle cared about was you. Not you naked.

Lola: [ Sighs ] Why is my sex life, or the lack of it, so fascinating to everyone? You know, I don't care what two adults decide to do together but, for some reason, everybody's just involved in my business, including summer, who now gets to look at me like some freak.

Mariah: I don't think you're a freak for choosing not to have sex, and nobody should be made to do something that they don't want to do. But kyle isn't a freak for wishing that you would. But, for kyle, the only real choice was you.

Lola: And summer. We can't forget about her.

Mariah: The only person thinking about summer is you. And, well, summer, of course, but kyle doesn't care about her.

Lola: Look, he told me how tortured he felt that we weren't sleeping together, that we were missing out of the closeness and on the romance and...the sex. He pretended like everything was okay, and then he told me that it wasn'T.

Mariah: What was he supposed to do? He was being chivalrous.

Lola: Otherwise known as lying.

Mariah: Lola. Come on. Kyle is playing by your rules. Why isn't that enough?

Lola: You know, if he had, uh, goals, he wouldn't be so fixated on the fact that we're not having sex. Oh, god.

Mariah: See? Right there. There. You are judging him in a way that he has never judged you.

Lola: I'm not like this.

Mariah: Okay, so let's say this is about work and careers, which, frankly, I don't believe for a second, but let's say that it is. Well, you know what, not everybody is as lucky to have their passion be their career. You are driven, you are ambitious, and you love what you do, and it's all working out for you. And that's wonderful. But what is success if you don't have anyone to share it with?

Lola: I don't know what to do.

Mariah: Lola, kyle loves you. And I would never admit it to him, but I think he is an amazing guy. So... you can miss out on that, or maybe you could do the stepping up, for once.

Summer: So, uh, kyle is isn't here, and something sparkly in here?

Jack: No, to kyle, and yes, to sparkling. So, what brings you by? It isn't jabot business because you're working for newman now.

Summer: No, I'm just getting settled back into town, and i missed you. So, are the sparkles for mom's chemist? You doing the whole big valentine's day thing?

Jack: Kerry and I are having dinner together. And you -- what are your plans?

Summer: Uh, just nothing, really. Just the couch and takeout. I'm not really seeing anybody right now, and, you know, it's just too much pressure, the whole big romance thing. But I assume that you're not making it a double date with kyle and lola. Having your son and his girlfriend there would kill the vibe?

Jack: Kerry and I are having dinner alone.

Summer: Well, then, should i just hang out and wait for kyle to get back?

Jack: Well, I always appreciate your company, but you'd be waiting a very long time.

Summer: Really? Where'd kyle go?

Rey: [ Exhales sharply ]

[ Chuckles ]

Mia: Happy valentine's day.

Rey: Wow.

Mia: I thought so.

Rey: How long have you been waiting like that?

Mia: [ Giggles ] Since you told me you were heading home from work.

Rey: Yeah, but we're not celebrating till later.

Mia: Well, it's called valentine's day. You don't have to wait till sundown, and I figured things were hectic for you at work. The news is going crazy over the newman trial. So you have to tell me.

Rey: That really what you want to talk about?

Mia: Only if you want to. Put your head on my shoulders, tell me all your troubles...

Rey: As of right now, I can't think of a single one.

Mia: Mmm. What's in there?

Rey: I got you some wine for later, and some of your literature. Some magazines. One of which I think you're gonna get a kick out of.

Mia: You know me so well.

Rey: I know you love two things more than me -- gossip and dresses.

Mia: That's not true. You're in my heart first, but those two are right behind. You love me.

Rey: I really do.

Mia: Mmm, always looking for ways to make me smile.

Rey: I got you some wine and magazines, meanwhile, you got these rose petals and...

[ Chuckles ] Oh, my goodness. We should make a reservation for later. What do you want to do tonight?

Mia: They are selling tickets for this fancy event going on at the gcac. It's our place now because of our vow renewal. We could go somewhere else if you don't want to go.

Rey: You already got tickets, didn't you?

Mia: You mad?

Rey: It's perfect.

Mia: You'll have to wear a suit.

Rey: That's even better.

Mia: Are you sure?

Rey: Yeah, because to put on a suit, you got to...

Mia: Take off those clothes. Mmm.

Sharon: And I had to find out from rey, of all people, with no warning.

Phyllis: All night. I mean, I get it that you didn't want to call or text, but you think maybe you could get one of the 30 servants you have at the big house and deliver a note? Or send a raven?

Victoria: Would it kill either one of you to remember that my mother and father have both been arrested at this point?

Phyllis: Who told nikki to confess? And why wouldn't someone slap some tape over her mouth?

Mariah: Nikki confessed? What did she say? Did she tell them everything?

Phyllis: It'd be a good idea to know, don't you think?

Victoria: Look, we don't have all of the information. Michael needs my mom's agreement in order to break client privilege.

Phyllis: I love when michael plays by the rules, it's a beautiful thing.

Victoria: You know, if you would just stop talking, I would tell you how rey interrogated me again.

Sharon: He did?

Victoria: Yes. Right after he spoke to my mother. Evidently, she gave him her version of what happened on our girls' night.

Phyllis: [ Scoffs ] Damn it. Okay.

Victoria: I think he was trying to trip me up. I just kept it simple. I didn't say anything new. But if mom is trying to tell rey that she handled J.T. On her own, he clearly doesn't believe her.

Sharon: Rey asked me about that night again, too. I didn't give him any new information.

Phyllis: Yeah, you know, it's been really good for us, you working there, you know, with your desks all cozied together.

Victoria: My mom is very smart. Whatever explanation that she gave to rey that night, we were all left out of it. She didn't confess for any other reason but to save my father, and she would never, never implicate her own daughter.

Phyllis: I know, that's exactly what nick said. Victoria's in the clear. Doesn't that make you feel all better? I know it sure does for me.

Sharon: If rey had more to go on, he would have made a move by now. Whatever nikki said, there's no holes in it.

Phyllis: Yeah, except there's one giant hole in that -- it's not true. It's a big, fat lie. Nikki wasn't alone. We were all there. We were all involved, and now we are one step closer to this whole thing just blowing up in our faces.

Summer: Well, I guess I could just text kyle. I mean, we are still friends.

Jack: Or you could just back off.

Summer: Why, is there a problem?

Jack: Well, kyle will call you as soon as he's back in town, I'm sure of it.

Summer: Okay, well, that sounds a little mysterious. Should I be worried about him?

Jack: I know this isn't your M.O., Summer, but maybe you should give him some time.

Summer: Well, jack, you are the best, thank you. Have a great evening.

Jack: You, too. Enjoy your sofa time.

Summer: Thank you, I will.

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Mia: Are you kidding me?

Rey: What? Is neon out again?

Mia: Is this what you thought I'd get a kick out of?

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Arturo. In the glossies, of course! Oh, his guys at work are gonna give him so much grief, it's great.

Mia: Oh, my god. Did you know abby hired a professional photographer for her engagement photos? The woman's father was arrested for murder, and she's over here gushing about her engagement? Who does that?

Rey: What are you gonna wear tonight? The red, hmm?

Mia: Oh, he looks so sad. So fake and phony.

Rey: Yeah, that's the point, isn't it? Is he wearing eyeliner?

[ Chuckles ]

Mariah: I don't like this, not for you and not for tessa. The cops are gonna keep digging until eventually everything comes out.

Phyllis: You know, your concern for your blackmailing barista really is touching, but if nikki's confessions end in warrants, tessa's crimes could really seem quaint by comparison.

Sharon: We don't need to be thinking in terms of worst-case scenarios. If nikki framed this as self-defense, then the police can just decide to believe her and let her go.

Phyllis: Has faith broken the news to you about santa claus yet?

Sharon: J.T. Was homicidal. Everyone knows now that he was abusing victoria, and he tried to murder victor.

Phyllis: Yeah, and then he turned around and went ballistic on nikki without any witnesses nearby? Yeah, that version is totally plausible.

Victoria: Until he we know what mom said, how do we support her story?

Phyllis: We don't know hers, but she knows ours. So we have to stick what we've said all along and hope that she works around that.

Victoria: Or what, phyllis? My mother's already in a cell. She's not young. She has ms. Why don't you think about somebody else for half-a-second?

Phyllis: She better hold onto our story because I'm not going down for this.

Mariah: Wait. What does that mean, you would cut a deal to save yourself?

Phyllis: Let's not find out what I'd do.

Sharon: Victoria, can I get you anything?

Mariah: I'm gonna go to the kitchen.

Victoria: We need to talk about this. We need to -- we just all need to make sure that our stories are consistent.

Sharon: We will.

Victoria: This was just so much easier when my father was the only suspect. He was strong, he -- he was ready for a fight. He would do anything for my mother's sake, but mom... mom -- even if she says it was in self-defense, are christine and the police gonna take her seriously? She's been lying about it for months. I mean, to the jury, it's gonna scream guilty.

Sharon: Well, maybe christine will assume that nikki's just covering for victor and she'll dismiss the confession.

Victoria: What about rey? You know as well as I do that he's onto something. He's closer to the truth than he's ever been, and he's only gonna get closer, sharon.

[ Sighs ] My mom might have to serve a life sentence because of me. Everyone can tell me that that's not true, but I know that it is.

[ Sighs ] And here I am, doing absolutely nothing.

Nick: Michael, I need an update. Call me as soon as you get this.

Phyllis: No word?

Nick: Well, there hasn't been a bail hearing set, so that means my mother has been formally charged, which means my mom and dad are just in limbo.

Phyllis: I think they can hold her for 72 hours.

Nick: Yeah, if they're gonna be hardline about it, but my mother has a very fragile medical history.

Phyllis: The cops are gonna do whatever it takes to find the cracks in nikki's story. They're gonna want to figure out who helped her. During and after.

Nick: There are too many of us who know exactly what happened. But, right now, I just need to focus on my mom.

Phyllis: Your mom knew what she was doing, and she did it anyway. She did this to herself.

Nick: I know what you think about this, but you saying it out loud isn't helping things.

Phyllis: Okay, do you understand, since that horrible night, we have had to count on each other? With our stupid charity meetings. You think that was easy, carrying that secret around? Every week, somebody was ready to just fall apart, to confess. Except me. Because, somehow, I could see how high the stakes were. But we did it, we stuck together, but then nikki went rogue.

Nick: She took the blame herself.

Phyllis: Maybe. What happens when she gets pushed too hard? Or if she thinks the cops are figuring out what really happened? She killed a man to protect victoria. You don't think she's gonna throw me under the bus if it means saving her daughter?

Nick: No, that's never gonna happen.

Phyllis: You don't know that!

Nick: Look, I know you're worried, okay? But the only thing I can focus on right now is getting my mother out of jail.

Phyllis: Nick! We did it. Your mom, sharon, victoria, me. We are the reason J.T. Was in that ground. This is not about a case, this is not about confession. This is reality. I could go to prison. We all could. One threat gets pulled, and this whole thing falls apart.

Mia: That's how those people work. They get into more than one magazine at a time so you can't get away from them.

[ Scoffs ] Oh! Here I am doing yoga! Here I am getting my pressed juice. And here I am getting engaged to someone I barely even know, with a big, fat ring on my finger from, I quote, "my soulmate."

Rey: This magazine was meant to entertain you, not get you all riled up.

Mia: [ Sighs ]

Rey: Seriously?

Mia: What?

Rey: Are you jealous?

Mia: No.

Rey: I thought you were past all that crap.

Mia: It's not about arturo. It's about her. Okay? She's not real. She's like a dress-up doll from the mall. That's what arturo's bringing into our family. That doesn't bother you?

Rey: Why should that bother me? That's who arturo wants to marry, not me. It's his choice.

Mia: You're right. You're absolutely right. Is it exhausting being right all the time?

Rey: Mm.

Mia: Mm. Mmm!

Rey: You know, maybe we should start getting ready for tonight.

Mia: Mnh-mnh. I still need you.

[ Moaning ]

Nick: I'm not gonna lose you. All right? Or anyone else. No one deserves to go down for what happened to J.T. Cops may not agree, so the less they know...

Phyllis: I'm just -- I'm furious. I'm furious with nikki, I really am. And I'm also scared for her. You know, she was protecting her daughter. That's what mothers do -- whatever it takes. Nikki needs your energy right now, okay? I can suck it up. She -- she needs you. You need to focus on her.

Nick: My family is my focus. And that means you. You're my family, too.

Jack: This is a surprise.

Lola: I thought I would come by. I texted kyle, but he hasn't gotten back to me. And I was in the area.

Jack: And you had to talk to him right away.

Lola: Okay, I wasn't nearby at all, but I did text kyle, and he hasn't replied. And I think that maybe he's avoiding me, and I wouldn't blame him for it. I just need -- jack, is he here?

Jack: As a matter of fact, he isn'T. And up at the cabin, we only get spotty cell service, at best. He may not have gotten your texts at all.

Lola: He went to the cabin.

Jack: All by his lonesome.

Lola: [ Sighs ]

[ Knocks on door ]

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

Summer: Hey. It's a little chilly out here, even for a snowflake. You gonna invite me in, or what?
