Mia: There is love in both families. I saw it when arturo went down on one knee at our vow renewal. I mean, it's hard to impress the woman who has everything. Except a good makeup person.

Rey: Mia!

Billy: I was just about to tell summer that the reason why I slept with her was knowing what it would do to you when you found out. I've realized that victoria was, is, and always will be the love of my life.

Victoria: Katie, where are you?

Katie: Sh! I won't tell.

[ Teacup crashes ]

Nikki: [ Groans ] Katie? Katie! Where are you, honey?

Nikki: Oh, my god, victor. I -- I was sleeping on the couch here, and I heard the cup and saucer fall off of the table, and katie was not here. I mean, may-maybe she did it, and she was worried that I would be upset.

Victor: But you don't think that's what happened.

Nikki: Someone has been in this house before, sneaking around. Where could she be?

Victor: Put the entire premises on lockdown, okay? Well, someone broke in, and my granddaughter is missing, and I want you to find her A.S.A.P. And whoever the hell was responsible, bring them to me. Now!

Mia: No hello? No smile? No... I know your mother raised you with better manners than that.

Arturo: Hello, mia.

Mia: I'm surprised you didn't turn and run.

Arturo: Still thinking about it.

Lola: Sorry I'm late.

Kyle: It's only a couple minutes.

Lola: Well, it was crazy at the pop-up, which is so great for business, but then we never get enough time. And I still have to go to the new restaurant because the exhaust system is broken, and, oh, that walk-in fridge.

Kyle: But you have some time now, right?

Lola: Some. I think. Enough. Maybe.

Kyle: Then close your eyes.

Lola: That's not weird.

Kyle: I-it is, but do it anyway.

Lola: Are you going to run me into a wall?

Lola: Oh, my --

Kyle: [ Laughs ] Ahh.

Lola: [ Exhales softly ] You did all this for lunch?

Kyle: I did all of this just for us.

Billy: [ Knocks ] Do you have, uh, time to go over that report I sent you?

Phyllis: Uh, I am prepping for today's presentation. But, yeah, I got a few minutes.

Billy: Great. I'm honored.

Phyllis: Uh, I have some information I need to share with you, too.

Billy: All right.

Phyllis: Summer's back.

Billy: Really? I, uh... I didn't realize she was visiting. She didn't come see nikki when she was in the hospital.

Phyllis: She's here now.

Billy: And how long is she here for?

Phyllis: For good. She's still working at newman. Victor thought she should be back from dubai.

Billy: And there you have it. Whatever lurch wants.

Phyllis: What I want. And what I expect is for you to leave my kid alone. If you make things uncomfortable for her, if you make trouble for her, if you look at her cross-eyed, I will burn you to the ground.

Billy: Won't be a problem. I'm not happy about how things went down with summer, but I'm sure that we can manage to avoid each other.

Phyllis: Good. Then we can maintain status quo and not have this conversation again. So, that report you sent me. Uh, I thought you were working from home today, watching johnny and katie?

Billy: I was supposed to, but victoria had other plans without letting me know.

Phyllis: Uh-huh.

Billy: Which isn't like her.

Phyllis: I'm sure she has a lot on her plate.

Billy: No, this is not an oversight. It's a statement. She's shutting me out, and I don't know how to stop her.

Mia: I don't like it. Being jealous. I know. I know. When we were younger, it was different. We both had jealous streaks, and it was dramatic and romantic back then. But now... Phyllis: What I said is that you have to decide how hard you're willing to work to get through to her.

Billy: I am being open. I am being honest. I'm trying to be accepting. I'm trying to go at her speed. But it turns out her speed is grinding to a halt and throwing it in reverse, okay? I am an open vein, and she has turned to ice.

Phyllis: And what, you think I have all the answers?

Billy: According to you, yeah.

Phyllis: No. What I said is that maybe you should try. But you think trying is the price of entry. Boom. Done. You get everything you want. But victoria has her own free will. She gets her own vote in her life, and she's given you the information. You have to decide how you want to handle things.

Billy: That's it? That's all you have?

Phyllis: This is my office. I do work here. But somehow, when you walk in, you don't see the jabot C.E.O. No, no, no. You see the ex who is responsible for the current state of your life. A frenemy who's gonna hand out advice, lend an ear. If this was the coffeehouse, if this was the club, that would be cool. But in these walls, I am not your buddy. I am not your ex. I am not your therapist. I am your boss. And I need you to remember that.

Victor: I want you to do it again, all right? As many times as it takes. Have you found anything?

Nikki: No. I've been in all of her favorite rooms in the house. She's not in my closet trying on shoes. She's not in the pantry where the sweets are.

Victor: No. I think she's probably playing. You know, she loves to wander through the house and find things to play with.

Nikki: I think someone might be in the house.

Victoria: Someone might be -- has katie been kidnapped?!

Victor: Your mother's just speculating right now.

Victor: [ Gasps ] Katie? Katie, can you hear me? Come out right now!

Victor: Victoria, you know how she likes to run off and then just play hide-and-seek somewhere. The other day she came right back.

Victoria: How many of the staff do you have looking for her?

Victor: Everyone is looking for her, and nicholas is on the way over, all right?

Victoria: Did you call the police?

Victor: I don't want to call the police unless they find that there's a trespasser on the grounds.

Nick: Well, it's obviously not enough. What do you need me to do?

Nikki: I really need your help with the security footage from the property. I mean, there's just so many angles and so many hours. Who knows how long this intruder has been wandering around?

Nick: Okay, you're sure somebody got past security?

Nikki: I'm not absolutely positive, but I can't shake this feeling. I mean, what if katie was kidnapped from this very room? I mean, I was sleeping, nicholas! She was my responsibility, and I was asleep!

Nick: Mom, calm down. Calm down. Look, it's a house full of security and staff. She is here somewhere. We'll find her.

Nikki: [ Sighs ]

Nick: Let me see the footage.

Phyllis: No, that's right. The spring packaging palette, the summer promotional materials. Yeah. No, that's good. Can you bring them up when you're done with them? Excellent. Thank you. You stuck around. Because you have to have the last word?

Billy: Only to tell you you're right.

Phyllis: Oh. It's nice that someone's noticing.

Billy: This is a place of business. Our focus should be and is on jabot.

[ Sighs ] And I'm sure you want to hear about victoria as much as I want to hear about nicholas.

Billy: And yet you can't help but put yourself in between me and victoria by saying something about her being a consolation prize, which she isn'T. So, I will stay in my lane, and you stay in yours.

Phyllis: Okay. That's doable. Can we get back to work?

Billy: You're the boss.

Phyllis: Once I go over your report, I'm gonna need some help with my presentation. Nothing more than a little prep work. But do you think we can do that without ripping into each other?

Arturo: [ Sighs ]

Mia: You didn't have to do that. But thank you, though.

Arturo: Yes, I did.

[ Sighs ] We both needed a breather.

Mia: We weren't having an argument.

Arturo: [ Snorts ] Yet.

Mia: So, what now? Is this the part where you tell me why you don't believe me?

Arturo: That's not what I said.

Mia: That's exactly what you said.

Arturo: Mia, I'm just trying to point out that it's not gonna be easy to play happy family.

Mia: Because you don't believe me. Why is that so hard for you to admit that?

Arturo: It's just because it's complicated, mia.

Mia: It doesn't have to be.

Arturo: Look, I want that. Okay? Believe me. I want the four of us to get along.

Mia: Then what's the problem?

Arturo: History. A lot of it. Not -- not just between me and you. I mean, put rey in the mix.

Mia: And abby.

Arturo: Like I said, it's a lot.

Mia: We can figure it out. We have to. I just need to know that you and I are okay, arturo. Maybe that's stupid and unrealistic at this point. But when you've gotten so close to someone, you want to believe that that connection will last forever. And not -- not in the same way. Not like that. But something. No matter who you're married to, I want to believe you're my friend.

Arturo: What you said about being the center of attention, that's who you are. And no one can stop you. I don't know if friends is the right word to use for us, but, yeah. I'm sure we'll be friends.

Mia: I have to go. I have a client.

Arturo: Already making it happen for yourself.

Mia: Trying to.

Arturo: Knock 'em dead.

[ Cellphone rings ] This is arturo.

Lola: [ Slurps ] Do people really do this?

Kyle: What? Eat in the middle of the day? Yeah, I'd say they do. Don't you have a truck devoted to this whole thing?

Lola: I'm talking about the sake. Do people really drink this for lunch?

Kyle: Since we qualify as people, I'd say yes?

Lola: Well, I'm just asking 'cause it kind of seems like... a lot.

Kyle: Like the purse.

Lola: No! No, I don't mean -- no, it's sweet. I like it.

Kyle: Good. Because you deserve a break. Next time, couples massages at the spa.

Lola: Okay, it's weird. We need to talk about this.

Kyle: I -- I figured you'd be sick of actual restaurants.

Lola: And it has nothing to do with the fact that summer's back in town for good, right?

Lola: 'Cause I can't tell if you're trying to convince me that we're good, or that you're trying to convince yourself that summer can't get to you.

Lola: Which part?

Kyle: Not about convincing myself. The other part. Showing you how I feel. I... don't know how to show you you're special without doing something... special. And it was really just takeout.

Kyle: Okay, fine. Yes, I'm on alert, because summer is a wrecking ball. Or at least that's the way she likes to see herself. Look, I'd build a moat around us if I could 'cause we're in such a good place right now. Am I wrong here?

Kyle: And that's okay.

Lola: Yeah, but then in comes summer, and she's -- never mind. Forget it.

Arturo: [ Chuckles ] We do that now?

Rey: Yeah. We do that now.

Arturo: [ Exhales softly ]

Rey: Besides, I haven't had any one-on-one time with you since the big night. The man himself, engaged. Never saw that one coming.

Arturo: No one did.

Rey: There's something I want to get into with you. So come on.

[ Knock on door ]

Phyllis: Come in.

Mia: Am I early?

Phyllis: No, no, no. We were just finishing up. Mia's gonna make me look fabulous for my presentation.

[ Phyllis chuckles ] Um, is it okay if i set up over here?

Phyllis: Yeah, that's fine. Okay. Let's get back to the european marketing numbers.

Billy: Okay. I'm there.

Phyllis: How did you get the figure by pushing the new eye cream?

Billy: We piggybacked the trial size of the lip renewal, and then we spread the cost over two products, and then we used the remaining budget on the brightener.

Phyllis: Okay. I got it. Okay. That's good. That's nice. I'll make sure you get a lip renewal. You can try it on your clients.

Mia: Oh, yes. Heh... that sounds awesome.

Phyllis: I hear congratulations are in order.

Mia: For?

Phyllis: You renewed your vows.

Mia: [ Gasps ] Yes. Thank you. [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: And nick told me that abby and arturo were feeling the love in the room and got engaged. What a night!

Mia: Yeah. Devon hamilton wanted everything to be perfect for us.

Victoria: Dad and I checked every cupboard, every closet, under every bed. She's just -- I told her there were cookies waiting for her. She's still -- there's no sign of her.

Victoria: She wouldn't do this, not on her own. So, mom, you must be right. Someone got in again.

Nick: Mom and I have been going over all the security footage. There is no sign of anyone coming onto the property. There's no sign of anyone going off, either.

Victor: If it is an intruder, and if it's the same person that left the evidence, then they know the placement of the security cameras around the house, and they know the schedule of the guards.

Nikki: It is the same person. I just know it.

Victoria: No.

Nikki: I mean, they weren't happy just framing you and torturing me. Now they have katie.

Victoria: No, no, no. Don'T. Don't say that, mom. No.

Nick: Look, we don't know anything yet, okay? Faith used to do this all the time. It's just the age. She would hide, and we couldn't find her. Let's not assume the worst.

Victoria: But what if she needs me? What if she's trapped? She needs her mother. She needs her parents.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Billy: Hey.

[ Sighs ] I thought you weren't talking to me.

Victoria: Come to the ranch. Right away. It's katie.

Billy: What is it?

Victoria: She's missing.

Billy: [ Slamming button ] Come on! Okay, max...time to help mrs. Tyler

Mia: Know what I love about what I do? My clients feel pampered. It's self-care, you know? Nothing else matters when i help them look their very best.

Phyllis: You know, I think you and I have a lot in common. And it is okay. Whatever you say, it is a privileged conversation between you and me. And, by the way, I do not judge. I can'T.

Phyllis: You just renewed your vows.

Mia: And they were wonderful and romantic.

Phyllis: But...? But how things look isn't always how things are.

Mia: No, rey and I are happy.

Phyllis: But you're not as happy as you wish you were? You know, um... I know, at the jaboutiques launch, there was that bomb where you and arturo had had an a-- an affair. And then the guy puts a ring on abby's finger at your party. Does any of this have anything to do with him?

Mia: Only everything.

Lola: No one would blame you. This isn't a conversation that a guy your age is expecting to have. But I need you to be honest with me. I mean how crazy does it make you feel that we don't --

Kyle: I think about it. A lot.

Lola: That's what I thought.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] But it's not just about making love. Look, the way I see it, you've already given me more than I've ever gotten from anyone else. I've dated. I've had sex. But I haven't had this. Been madly in love and wanted to steal every minute of the day with someone. Maybe sake and sushi is the best I can do right now. So, I try too hard. This is new for you. This is new for me.

Lola: I think about it, too.

Kyle: Which part?

Lola: All the parts.

Kyle: Tell me more. In great detail.

Lola: [ Scoffs ] It's different for you. You must be tired of waiting.

Kyle: Look, it's not like that. I can want to be with you...

Lola: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: ...And be perfectly fine going at your speed. Because I love you. Nothing is gonna change that.

Lola: [ Sighs ]

Billy: So you had time to search the whole house but not call me?

Victoria: Well, we just thought she might be playing hide-and-seek.

Billy: All I wanted to do was spend the day with my daughter. Instead, she comes here, to your fortress, and now you're telling me that she's -- she's missing.

Nikki: Katie was with me. She was my responsibility.

Billy: Is there somebody on the property or not? Come on. It's a simple question. Because if somebody has my daughter, then we should do something about it.

Victor: Stop it with the accusations, all right? We will find my granddaughter, and we'll find whoever broke onto the premises.

Nick: Dad. Listen, billy, security's on this. Katie could have just wandered off. We just don't know yet.

Billy: Yeah, I had a daughter wander off once before. I ended up putting flowers on her grave, so don't tell me this is not a big deal. I am her father. I am supposed to do everything i can to protect her. And every second that passes... I cannot lose katie like I lost delia. Do you understand me?

Mia: [ Sniffles ] You hired me for a job, not for this.

[ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, no. Come on. Keep on saying what you were saying.

Mia: Rey is the best thing that's ever happened to me. He is a decent and generous man. I broke his heart. And yet he forgives. I was selfish and -- and stupid, and I hurt him so much. Still he took me back. He's not the kind of guy who would play games or take revenge on you by going with another woman. He's not the kind of guy who would punish you that way.

Phyllis: Sleep with another woman. Maybe someone you know.

Mia: That would be the worst. And I never want to hurt him again.

Phyllis: But you still think you could, because you want someone else.

Mia: [ Scoffs ] The way I feel about arturo is a part of who I am. How do you cut someone out of your heart you've loved your whole life?

Phyllis: Well, you know, I-i have had stupid, crazy love, myself, you know? Not the last-forever kind, but...

Mia: Mm-hmm.

Phyllis: You know, if I saw him now, I would say no. But arturo lives in town, here, now.

Mia: Engaged to a woman known as the naked heiress. And I shouldn't care. Arturo is entitled to his own life with whomever he chooses.

[ Crying ] But when I think of her, abby, marrying my first love... how could he love me and then love her? Enough to marry her? Abby newman is nothing like me at all. A woman like that won't make him happy. I have to stop thinking like this, but I -- I don't know how.

Rey: You finally stopped wearing those ripped-up jeans.

Arturo: [ Chuckles ] That was a style, my brother.

Rey: No, no. That was a joke.

Arturo: Mm.

Rey: Thank god abby changed that bad style sense of yours.

Arturo: Yeah, well, I changed a lot being with her. Wait a minute. I-is that what this is about, this little tea party?

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Arturo: You want to have a big serious conversation with me because I'm engaged.

Rey: Oh...

Arturo: Look, I-I know how the wedding night goes.

[ Chuckles ]

Rey: [ Chuckles ] Abby's fantastic.

Rey: And you don't think I deserve her.

Rey: Let me finish. Abby's fantastic. And she's from two brand-name families.

Arturo: What's your point?

Rey: Those people, the lives they lead, it's, uh...

Arturo: Okay, remember I-I -- I know these people, all right? I've -- I've been around them, both sides of her family, enough to get it. They're rich. They own the big business, the town. They've already looked me up and down to make sure that I'm good enough for their girl. Victor even handed me a prenup. "Welcome to the family. You're not touching newman money."

Rey: [ Laughs ] After a surprise engagement? What -- what, does he keep that in a file in his drawer?

Arturo: That's a rich-man move.

Rey: [ Scoffs ] What did you say?

Arturo: I said yes. I love abby, man. Her money's her business.

Rey: Yeah. When victor's case goes to trial, whose business will that be?

Arturo: I'm the one with the screwdriver, and you're the one with the badge, so...

Rey: Things are gonna get complicated.

Arturo: Newmans are sticking together pretty close. They don't even think there's gonna be a trial.

Rey: Yeah. There's a lot of denial there.

Arturo: They say he's innocent.

Rey: Yeah, they always do. So, you ready for this? A lifetime of abbott-newman drama?

Arturo: Don't leave out the rosales drama.

Rey: Mm-hmm.

Arturo: Abby and I are in this together. We can handle it.

Billy: What did the police have to say about this?

Nick: We haven't contacted them.

Billy: Why the hell not?

Victoria: Because we don't actually know if anyone's in the house.

Billy: "Intruder." Your mother used the word.

Nikki: I didn't actually see anyone. Just my teacup on the floor. Uh, maybe katie thought that she had dropped it and broken it, and that I would be upset with her.

Billy: Somebody burnt the stables down, so clearly they can get on the property without being noticed, and yet you're not calling the police.

Victor: Would you pipe down? My security team knows this better than any cop.

Nikki: If katie is out there and she needs help, she knows the guards. She brings them cookies. She shows them her new stuffed animals. If I thought the police department could help, I would call them myself.

Billy: If my daughter is missing, all right, I'm not gonna wait around for the newman rent-a-cops to find her.

Victor: Put it down.

Billy: No. You don't get a say where my daughter's concerned.

Victoria: Please don'T.

Victor: I said put it down!

Victoria: Just don't, please.

Billy: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: More sake?

Lola: I have to stop. But I wouldn't mind a little bit more tea.

Kyle: You're good on time?

Lola: I can stay a little while longer.

Kyle: I literally have no chill. I would do anything to impress you.

Lola: You have. You do. But most importantly, I'm just glad that we talked.

Kyle: Me too.

Arturo: Thanks for the beer, man. Uh, maybe next time, come to the house. Lola might even be there.

Rey: Ooh, me, you, and the big-time chef.

Arturo: Yeah.

Rey: That's not a bad idea.

Arturo: Oh, man. The three of us. Careers, relationships. Crazy.

Rey: We're actual adults. I can't boss you two around anymore.

Arturo: This way doesn't suck.

Rey: It really doesn'T. You still got me, man.

Rey: What are you gonna do?

Arturo: [ Chuckles ] See ya, bro.

Rey: See ya.

Mia: I'm not a crier.

Phyllis: Ah. Neither am I. When I got a guy, though, stuck in my brain, my eyes do crazy things. You know, from experience, sometimes you need people just to listen to you. And sometimes you need people to tell you what to do.

Mia: You take advice?

Phyllis: I think I can. At -- at some point, I-I'm sure I have. But this is about you. Do you want advice this time?

Mia: Yes. Please.

Phyllis: Don't cause trouble for abby and arturo. As tempting as it may be, even if you just want that little spark of satisfaction, or it might even feel like joy. He will resent it. Abby comes from not one but two families that are used to getting everything they want. She stamps her little foot, and you're gonna have dual armies right behind her.

Mia: Because she has everything. Including arturo now.

Phyllis: Okay. Tell me about you. You have a man who loves you. A business that you created. No one gave that to you. And when they said no, you went around them.

Mia: Hmm.

Phyllis: And you haven't not stopped until you get a yes. Everything you have, you have earned through hard work, and through busting your backside. But here's the thing. You got to be damn careful of what you want. Because I can tell you're tough. And if you want arturo, you're gonna get him again. But if you do that, you will burn up everything that you have earned in this world. You got to know when to back off, mia. When to give in. Take that energy and put it into your career. Put it into your marriage. Tell yourself that you are over arturo. Wake up saying that every day, and go to bed the same way. And one day it'll be true.

Mia: I do love rey.

Phyllis: Okay. Then go from there.

Mia: Everything's gonna be all right.

Phyllis: That's right.

Mia: Oh, thank you.

Phyllis: That's good.

Victoria: I'm scared too.&

Billy: We need to call the police. We need a chopper. We need dogs. We need the swat team. We need to do whatever we can.

Victoria: No, billy, please. Because if katie's on her own, it's only gonna terrify her.

Billy: We don't know if she's on her own, okay, and that is not good enough for me.

Victoria: Then just come with me. We'll talk to the head of security. We'll see what they're doing, and maybe we can help them.

Billy: God, victoria, you sound like your father. You're circling the wagons. No outsiders allowed. Come on. If somebody can get on the property, they can get off -- with katie. You know what, enough, okay? I'm -- I'm calling the police. My daughter's more important than your obsession with privacy.

Katie: Miss mary mack, mack, mack

Victoria: Wait! Quiet for a second.
