Phyllis: You are a walking swamp of daddy issues. You always forgive him. You are rushing to his side. And what you carefully forget each and every time is that victor is as vile as J.T. Ever was, and deserves exactly what he gets!

Reed: Saying goodbye. I mean, I never got a chance to do that with the whole way that dad disappeared from my life.

Nick: Should you be doing a memorial for a guy who did such terrible things to you?

Victoria: Well, it's not on the top of my to-do list, but it was reed's idea. He thinks it will help give him closure. We will get you back to programming in just a bit... but we have breaking news right now... shreveport police holds a news overnight death of a shreveport police officer... let's listen in.... let's listen in....

Mattie: Mom's hanging in there, but it's been rough. Grandpa neil visits her most days, but now that she's so far north, we don't see her nearly as much.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I haven'T... been a very good friend to her since she, uh -- since she left. I need to rectify that.

Mattie: I'm sure she'd love to hear from you.

Billy: Do you mind if I get in contact with you so you can give me the address? I'd love to go see her.

Mattie: Yeah, I'd be happy to.

Billy: Okay. Thanks. Excuse me for a second. Hey. Hi. How are you? Thanks for coming.

Sharon: Um, well, when reed invited me, I didn't want to let him down.

Victoria: So, why exactly did you feel that you had to come? This night's gonna be trying enough for me.

Cane: Oh, trust me, this is the last place I want to be. But you know what, my kids asked me to join them, and I couldn't say no. But, you know, the good news is, about everybody being here, is that you, uh -- you can't lay another kiss on me.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ]

Billy: Everything okay?

Cane: Yeah.

Victoria: Yes, it's fine.

Cane: Everything's fine.

Victoria: Yeah. We were just, um... we were discussing the hit-and-run, and tying up some loose ends. I think the punishment for charlie, suspended his driving privileges and his curfew, that's a good idea.

Cane: It's a good idea. I'm glad you agree.

Victoria: Thank you.

Cane: Okay.

Victoria: Oh, I'm gonna go say hello to sharon.

Cane: Okay. Talk to you later.

Victoria: Hi. When reed said that you were on the guest list, I had no idea that you would come.

Sharon: You're doing a wonderful thing for your son. I'm here to support you in any way I can.

Billy: Excuse me.

Cane: Hey. Traci abbott's here.

Reed: Oh, um... excuse me.

Cane: Sure.

Reed: Traci?

Traci: Reed. Hello, honey. How are you doing? I know today has to be really difficult for you.

Reed: I'm doing a lot better now that you're here.

Traci: Oh, my goodness. Are you kidding? I had to be here.

Billy: And she means that.

Traci: I do. I'm so pleased that you are honoring J.T.'S memory this way.

[ Sighs ] You remind me of all the very best parts of him.

Reed: It's nice say that there were good parts about my dad.

Traci: Oh, sweetie, of course there were. Of course there were.

Mia: It was so cute seeing lola all excited about her evening.

[ Sighs ] Reminded me of when she was younger. Remember when she used to come to me whenever she had a crush on a boy? Remember?

Rey: Uh-huh.

Mia: Be nice if your sister and I could be friendly again, you know? Maybe now that she has a steady boyfriend, she and I will have something to talk about.

Rey: I doubt this thing between her and kyle's gonna last that long.

Mia: Yeah, why are you so down on kyle? It's clear you don't like him.

[ Inhales sharply ]

Rey: No, I -- I like him just fine. Just not the guy I would have chosen for my sister.

Mia: Hmm. Like that person even exists.

[ Chuckles ] I think you need I think you need to get used to having kyle around. 'Cause lola's in love. The kind of love that sticks. I know the signs.

Kyle: Wow.

Lola: Care to join me?

Kyle: Ah... wow.

Wow. I... you look amazing.

Lola: So do you. Sit. Please.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ]

[ Smooches ] Mm. Bubbly, huh? You went all-out.

Lola: Oh, yeah. Guess how long I have been planning this date?

Kyle: Tell me.

Lola: Well, since I was 15, i have been daydreaming about the perfect romantic evening, and today I get to live out the fantasy.

Kyle: Ooh. That mean I'm your dream come true?

Lola: Hmm, well, technically, when I was 15, I had a huge crush on the pitcher for the marlins, so not really.

Kyle: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm.

Lola: But I'm glad to have you here instead.

Kyle: Well, how incredibly lucky am I to be the man who gets to walk into your fantasy world? I love everything I've seen so far.

Lola: You mean me and the champagne?

Kyle: What champagne?

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Mia: It's the station.

[ Shivers, sighs ] Mm.

Rey: Thank you.

Mia: Yeah.

Rey: Thank you. Rosales. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I'll be right there.

Mia: You're going out again?

Rey: There is a major drug bust going on right outside of town.

Mia: Oh, since when do you do that?

Rey: Vice requested me.

Mia: [ Scoffs ] And, what, that's some kind of honor?

Rey: Look, I will call sharon and see if she can have someone come in and fix the furnace.

Mia: Uh, no, no. Never mind calling sharon. Uh, I'll take care of it.

Rey: You sure?

Mia: [ Sighs ] Go fight crime.

Rey: Okay.

Mia: Okay? Please, please be safe, okay? The -- the snow's getting worse.

Rey: Okay.

Mia: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ]

[ Shivering ] Ohh!

[ Cellphone rings ]

Arturo: Hey, there.

Mia: The furnace crapped out again. I need you to come back and fix it.

Arturo: I thought my brother the mechanical genius was on the case.

Mia: He was. But then he got called into work. It might be late by the time he comes home. It's so cold, I can literally see my breath in the air.

Arturo: Welcome to wisconsin.

Mia: Heh. Well, if you have some time, you know, rey and I would really appreciate the help.

Arturo: Let me wrap up a few things here at the office, and I'll come by in a bit.

Mia: Thank you!

[ Shivers ] Ah!

Lola: To us.

Kyle: Hear, hear. Hmm. Well, now. Teenage lola had surprisingly good taste in bubbly.

Lola: Part of the fantasy has updated over the years. Like the menu, per se.

Kyle: Well, no matter what else happens tonight, I know there will be excellent food.

Lola: I worked with the chef to design the perfect four-course menu for you and I. So I promise you will love every singly bite.

Kyle: Mm.

[ Instrumental music plays ] Dance with me. Unless that wasn't part of the picture.

Lola: It absolutely was.

Reed: Thank you so much for coming.

Mac: Oh! Of course.

Reed: It's the best surprise.

Mac: It meant a lot that you would include me.

Traci: Oh, my goodness. You were such a big part of J.T.'S life. If anyone should be here, you should be here.

Victoria: Mac.

Mac: Victoria. Hi.

Victoria: Hi.

Mac: Thank you for doing this.

Victoria: Thank you for coming. Did you fly in just for the service?

Mac: Yeah, I was so touched by reed's invitation, I got a sitter for the kids and hopped on a plane.

Reed: Wow. I wouldn't be the same without you here.

Billy: No, definitely not.

Mac: Reed, I need tonight as much as you do. It's been hard to make peace with J.T.'S death when there's still so many unanswered questions.

Abby: Is it possible that dad's covering with us? Acting more zen than he really is?

Nikki: Oh, no. Victor has every reason to be confident that those ridiculous charges will be dropped.

Abby: I told him that I would do whatever I can to help. And I know we all feel that way.

Nikki: I so want to bring him home.

Nick: You got a full house.

Reed: Yeah. I was, like, blown away at how many people were able to make it. Even people that I didn't expect to come, like grandma and mac.

Phyllis: I wonder what's up with nikki.

Nick: I'll go check.

Phyllis: I'm gonna say hello to your mom, all right?

Reed: Okay.

Phyllis: Okay. Victoria?

Victoria: I figured you'd bail.

Phyllis: Well, I almost did. Until nick told me that your mother was gonna be here. What the hell were you thinking, letting reed invite her to this?

Victoria: Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize that my son had to clear the guest list with you.

Phyllis: She is already visibly upset, and it hasn't even started yet. This is too much pressure for her.

Victoria: Oh, now you care about the pressure put on my mom? My god, I've been begging you to stop pushing the idea that my dad is guilty --

Phyllis: Never mind that. We have to get her out of here.

Victoria: The only one that I'm gonna be throwing out of this house tonight is you.

will continue. Hey! Havertys is having a big sale.

Mia: Will we have heat soon?

Arturo: Not tonight.

Mia: Why not?

Arturo: I found a crack in the heat exchanger.

Mia: Well, is that bad?

Arturo: Very. Yeah, I turned off the gas and shut down the unit so that you won't get carbon-monoxide poisoning.

Mia: Whoa. Okay. Uh, what -- what does it take to fix that, a-a new heat exchanger?

Arturo: You can do that, but I wouldn'T. Yeah, I think it's just better to replace it with a new furnace.

Mia: Because...?

Arturo: Well, it's just better in the long run to replace the one you have with a more energy-efficient model. If you want, I can pick one up in the morning, make the swap, and bill your landlady. Or you can ask her to hit up her regular hvac guy, and he can come take a look in the morning.

Mia: What am I supposed to do tonight, okay? It feels like the north pole in here.

Arturo: I can text sharon and -- and see if she's willing to pay a fee for an emergency service call. But if not, I'd suggest getting a hotel.

Mia: [ Sighs ] Rey wouldn't want me to spend the money.

Arturo: [ Sighs ] You can stay at my place. I'll take the couch.

Mia: [ Scoffs ] That's a brilliant idea. I'll just call my husband and tell him I'm sleeping in your bed tonight.

Arturo: [ Huffs ] Yeah. Uh...call a friend. Right. No friends. I don't know what to tell you, mia. You're resourceful. Get creative.

Mia: You're really gonna leave me here to freeze to death?

Arturo: I'm sure you'll survive.

Nikki: We could see you were arguing.

Sharon: What is this about?

Victoria: I'd rather not get into it.

Phyllis: Victoria is upset that I am not unhappy victor is in jail.

Sharon: Sensitive, as usual.

Phyllis: Don't you all realize that the heat is off of us, and that is a good thing? Rey was all over you before your accident. That's done now.

Victoria: How is that supposed to make her feel better? Her husband is in a jail cell.

Phyllis: Victor's gonna get out soon, never fear. And he doesn't need nikki or anyone else to rescue him.

Nikki: I know that. He's not the only one who is in trouble here. My entire family has suffered as a result of this secret.

Phyllis: It's gonna be nothing compared to the type of suffering we will all experience if this comes out.

Nikki: I'm not making any promises.

Phyllis: What does that mean? What are you saying?

Sharon: Stop haranguing her.

Victoria: You're making things worse.

Mattie: I spent so much time in the law stacks, the librarian and I are practically besties.

Cane: Yeah, that's not exactly how I envisioned she would spend her high-school year, but...

Charlie: Are you kidding? She's probably having so much fun. After this, she'll even go to law school.

Mac: You guys have become such caring young adults. It makes me proud to know both of you.

Charlie: Thanks.

Mattie: Uh, let's go see how reed's doing.

Charlie: See ya.

Mac: Uh... that's new.

Cane: Yeah. Uh... see, they had a thing, and then billy found out, so it was game over for billy and phyllis.

Mac: Really?

Cane: Yeah.

Mac: Doesn't seem to be bothering him.

Cane: [ Sucks teeth ] Guess not.

Mac: Does that mean he's moved on?

Cane: Uh... maybe you should go and ask him.

Billy: 'Scuse me.

[ Sighs ] Hey. You stressed?

Victoria: [ Groans ] Nothing a two-hour massage wouldn't cure.

Billy: [ Chuckles ] Well, I'll see what I can do after this. But right now, you, uh -- you gonna make it through okay?

Victoria: Yeah. It's just that there's so many people here. I should have talked to reed and set a limit. But it's too late now. I just feel like it's gotten out of hand.

Billy: Well, I can get my snow boots on and start kicking people out.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] That would be a no.

Billy: Okay.

Kyle: Fabulous dinner. You're a woman of your word.

Lola: I'm glad you finally comes to food, mister "I want my name spelled out in minced onions on my sandwich. Two b's and two t'S. Don't screw it up."

Kyle: [ Groans ] Was I really that bad?

Lola: [ Chuckles ] Worse.

Kyle: [ Chuckles ] I know I was lucky to even get a first date. Much less be here with you tonight.

Lola: I wouldn't have predicted this, either.

Kyle: Yeah?

Lola: I made some assumptions about you in the beginning, and I was way off.

Kyle: Uh, entitled rich boy, all puffed up about himself, thinks he can get any girl he wants.

Lola: Yeah. Mm-hmm.

Kyle: It's okay. I made some assumptions about you, too.

Lola: [ Gasps ] Yeah? Like what?

Kyle: I... pegged you as a heartbreaker. Take what you want and toss me aside like yesterday's news.

Lola: That was an option?

Kyle: [ Laughs ]

Lola: Now you tell me?

Kyle: Mm.

[ Both chuckle ] You know, you've teased me sometimes about having a track record, previous girlfriends, but... I want you to know that how I feel right now is new for me. And so different than...before.

Lola: How so?

Kyle: We seem to have skipped all the drama and angst, all the deliberate game-playing. Seeing how crazy we can make each other.

Lola: That doesn't sound like fun.

Kyle: It's horrible. You know, I always assumed that's how you knew you were in a relationship, was if your stomach was in knots and you felt like screaming half the time. And then I met you, and it's been a revelation.

Lola: I know what you mean.

Kyle: Being with you is so damn easy. It's like falling off a log. We have a misunderstanding, we fix it. Don't hold grudges or punish each other. We learn from it and move on. I had no clue that it was possible to relate to a woman like this. And now I realize, this is how you're supposed to feel when you're in love. Come here.

Mia: [ Shivers ] Ooh! [ Sighs ]

[ Knocking on door ]

[ Grunts ]

[ Shivers ] You're back.

Arturo: Hey.

Mia: Ah.

Arturo: So, I texted sharon, but I also made a few phone calls, and guess what?

Mia: What?

Arturo: A buddy of mine works at a heating-supply place.

Mia: Uh-huh.

Arturo: He has a heat exchanger that fits your furnace, and can bring it by on his way home from work.

Mia: Arturo, that's amazing! Thank you so much!

Arturo: It's like 40 degrees in here!

Mia: I know.

Arturo: Were you really gonna stick it out with no heat?

Mia: Well, I was hoping sharon would come through. And if not, then maybe when rey got home we'd figure something out. But in the meantime, I made some hot chocolate. Would you like some?

Arturo: No. No, no. I'm fine.

Mia: Okay. Well, at least, uh, sit on the couch with me so you can get warm with the comforter.

Arturo: Um... I'm okay here. Yeah, my -- my buddy's place isn't too far, so it shouldn't take all that long.

Mia: I'm just saying, if you get frostbite, you're not gonna be able to fix much of anything. Just saying.

[ Shivers ]

[ Chuckles ]

Arturo: [ Sighs ]

Mia: See?

Arturo: Yeah.

Mia: Isn't that better?

Phyllis: You may want to turn down the pda. Unless you told reed you're getting back together with his mom.

Billy: Well, thanks for the advice. I'll keep that in mind.

Phyllis: So you're getting back together with her?

Billy: Well, you know, you can't rush things when kids are involved. Well, you can. And you did. But, no, victoria and I are gonna take our time. Make sure we do it right.

Phyllis: It's good you're taking your time. How many minutes was it before you asked me to get back together with you?

Reed: Um, everyone, could I have your attention? Could we find our seats so that we can start?

[ Cellphone ringing ]

Sharon: Hi, rey. What's up?

Rey: The drug dealer's house we raided -- there was a child on the premises.

Sharon: Oh, no...

Rey: Poor little guy was hiding in the garage, scared out of his wits. He has grandparents in kenosha who are willing to take him in, but he still needs to speak to a social worker. You're good with kids, and I thought...

Sharon: Do you want me to get him to open up? Find out what school he goes to, if he has a pediatrician? If there are any issues the grandparents need to know about?

Rey: Look, I know it's your night off. I wouldn't ask except it's --

Sharon: It's not a problem. I'll be right there.

Rey: Thank you.

Sharon: Um, I just got a call from the station. A work emergency. Please tell reed how sorry I am that I can't stay.

Victoria: I will.

Sharon: Hey, um... good luck. I hope nikki will be okay.

Victoria: Thanks.

Reed: Thank you all for coming. I know that most of you are here a lot more for me than -- than you are my dad. I really appreciate it. Do any of you all have any good memories of my dad that you'd like to share?

Traci: Um, honey, why don't I go first?

Reed: Okay.

Traci: Okay. Uh... [ Sighs ] J.T. Was just a little bit older than reed when he started dating my daughter, colleen. And at first, I was worried he was too old for her, and that he was maybe interested in her for all the wrong reasons. But, in time, it became very obvious how deeply he cared for her. He was a wonderful musician. He wrote many heartfelt, just beautiful songs. And all day long, I've been thinking about this song he wrote for colleen about the power of love to change people. To lead them out of the darkness and into the light. I would like to believe that J.T. Is with colleen now. And that he has put the darkness behind him forever.

Reed: Thank you.

Traci: Sure, honey.

Mia: Isn't she adorable? And she had the cutest dress under her coat.

[ Sighs ]

Arturo: I love seeing lola so happy.

Mia: [ Chuckles ]

Arturo: You can tell, with that smile, she left here feeling like a million bucks.

Mia: Yeah. Well, I think it had more to do with kyle and being in love than how she looked.

[ Sighs ]

Arturo: I cannot believe how fast this is happening.

Mia: How is this fast? Your sister is in her 20s. You and I were only teenagers when we fell in love.

Mia: I wish rey would come home!

Arturo: Call him.

Mia: [ Sighs ] I don't like to bother him at work. I used to call him too much because I'd worry.

Arturo: About him being safe?

Mia: When you're married to a cop, you never know, once they're out that door, if they're ever coming back.

Arturo: You never used to talk this way.

Mia: I can't help it. I've always felt that, someday, something was gonna take him away from me. For some reason, tonight... it's getting to me.

Kyle: Wish we had more courses coming.

Lola: All that food, and you're still hungry?

Kyle: No way. I'm stuffed. Just not ready for the evening to end. I know we both have early mornings tomorrow. But I hope you have time for one more dance?

Lola: Absolutely.

[ Instrumental music playing ]

Lola: I realize you're used to a different kind of ending, where you and your date leave the restaurant and spend the night together.

Kyle: I'm not expecting anything of you, lola. I don't want you feeling the least bit pressured.

Lola: Well [Sighs] I am so glad that you've been so great about waiting.

Kyle: [ Snorts ]

Lola: It just means that you want it to be right, just like I do, and that's so important to me.

Reed: Nobody wants to be remembered by... the worst thing they ever did. I've pulled some pretty bonehead moves. And I know it would wreck me to think that that's how people remembered me. The sum of my mistakes. Luckily, they haven'T. They realized there was some good in me, too. Unfortunately, I don't think my dad's getting the same treatment. Everybody remembers him by the bad things he did. He was so much more than that. I mean, like traci said, he was a musician. He was a guitarist and a singer and a songwriter.

[ Scoffs ] I had no idea until he busted out the guitar one day and played for me. He blew me away with how talented he was. Then he invited me to play with him. It was amazing.
