Episode #11527 ~ Jack visits Victor; Cane receives news from Lily.
Provided By Suzanne
Previously on "the young and the restless"...
Kyle: Devon and abby hired you because of what you bring to the table. So don't second-guess yourself.
Christine: Victor newman, you're being charged with the murder of J.T. Hellstrom.
Abby: We're a family. We stick together. And I don't care who you are. I am gonna do everything in my power to prove that my father is innocent.
Jill: Whoever this woman is who kissed you right out of the blue, would you stay the hell away from her?
Ana: If fen's song takes off, it's a victory for all of us. What I did today, I was only trying to help.
Devon: Oh, I believe that. I think that you were trying to help yourself.
Ana: Devon, no --
Devon: This is the second time that you have shown me what comes first to you, and that's your own ambition. So I don't know if I can trust you.
[ Suitcase thuds ]
[ Suitcase wheels rattling ]
Abby: Morning.
Jack: Abby! Hey. Didn't know you were home.
Abby: [ Scoffs ] That was subtle. The way you couldn't get off that site fast enough.
Jack: Can I get you some coffee? Something to eat?
Abby: That was about my father, wasn't it?
Jack: It was.
Abby: Hm. What are they saying this time? You know what? Don't tell me. I already know. "Embattled. Brooding. Wealthy."
[ Chuckles ] They love writing about my father no matter what. He could be conquering the business world or accused of murder. Doesn't matter. As long as they get hits on their sites, they don't care about the content.
Jack: Is there any other news that's not on the web?
Abby: Just the fact that he's innocent. But no one wants to write about that, because it's not salacious enough.
Jack: Abby, the genoa city police department feel they have enough to move forward.
Abby: The pd loves to claim that they have a case when they don'T. You know what? I'm not blaming rey, because someone clearly told him to focus on the newman family.
Jack: "Someone" being the D.A.? That is not christine's M.O.
Abby: She loves putting my dad on trial. That's what this is about. The fact that she never wins against him, not really. I mean, and even when she does, the celebration doesn't last very long. She needs to face reality. Okay? There is no body, which means they can't connect a weapon. And if my dad hired someone for a hit, where is that person? My dad is innocent. I saw him at the station. He was strong. And he has every right to be. Because this is all gonna be... going away, and he will be released soon. Huh. Only you don't think that will ever happen. Because you've already decided that my father is guilty.
Victor: [ Sighs ]
Kyle: Lola! Ooh! [ Groans ]
Lola: Not again.
Kyle: Sorry. I didn't -- this happened already once today?
Lola: Twice. Maybe more. I just -- [ Sighs ] Okay, on occasion -- almost never -- I have nerves.
Kyle: Wow.
Lola: Don't act like it's a shocking thing.
[ Kyle chuckles ] Okay? Nerves are a thing that people have when things are stressful.
Kyle: Mm-hmm.
Lola: It's totally normal.
Kyle: This about your menu presentation with devon and abby?
Lola: You know, I might pick all of this up to drop it again.
Kyle: [ Sighs ]
Nate: Ana! What's going on?
Ana: Uh, coffee fix. Like you.
Nate: I mean with the bags. What's going with the bags? You going on a business trip? Or is devon sending you somewhere.
Ana: Devon doesn't want me around. So I think it's time for me to go away again. And not come back.

Abby: So, I guess this topic is off-limits for us -- my father's innocence -- since you don't think that's possible.
Jack: Abby, a jury is going to decide this, not me.
Abby: So you do think it'll go to trial.
Jack: Because victor was arrested, because he was denied bail.
Abby: Okay. The whole bail thing has to do with my father's wealth, not evidence. You and I both know that.
Jack: Do I want to think that victor got rid of his ex-son-in-law? No. Abby, I was there. I was the one who found victor after J.T. Attacked him. You and I both know your father is no stranger to revenge. Given his history --
Abby: History? What history? I'm serious. Yes, I know my father has done some horrible things in the past, but that doesn't make him a murderer. And the fact that you could connect those two things and jump to that conclusion --
Jack: What I think of victor is totally irrelevant. I care about you.
Abby: [ Sighs ]
Jack: I want to look out for how this affects you and nikki and victoria. And everyone else. I don't want to fight with you. I don't want to add to your burden. I want to make things easier for you. But, honey, you can't make this whole day about that. Even victor would agree with me. You have a life of your own -- a good life. How are things going with the restaurant?
Abby: [ Sighs ] It's great, actually. It's the only thing keeping me sane right now -- putting time and effort into something and watching it grow.
Jack: So, how soon can i bring my colleagues and clients to this great new place?
Abby: Well, first things first. Lola is presenting her menu ideas today. You know what? You should come with me. The food is bound to be amazing.
Jack: Well, I would love to. Duty calls.
Abby: Oh, but this will be way more fun.
Jack: Yeah, I'm sure it will, but, uh, you'll tell me all about it.
Abby: Or I could make you wait until opening night.
Jack: Now, that would be torturing me. Honestly, I have something important to do, or I'd be walking out the door with you.
Abby: All right. You're missing out. Bye, uncle jack.
Jack: Bye.
Kyle: You know you didn't have to come to work here today.
Lola: Did you notice the key word in that sentence? "Work." That's what that word means. So I was here, and now I'm leaving.
Kyle: I just thought you were going to keep things chill before your meeting with devon and abby.
Lola: Oh, this is me being chill -- working. If I were at home right now, i would be crazy by now. Probably would have dropped way more things.
Kyle: So, other than nerves, how you feeling, champ?
Lola: Good. Ready.
Kyle: Mm-hmm.
Lola: Excited.
Kyle: Mm-hmm.
Lola: Terrified.
Kyle: [ Chuckles ] The food at your test trial was amazing.
Lola: Yeah, but that's only because you all ganged up on me and told me to stop playing it safe.&
Kyle: That was not ganging up. It was a friendly consensus that you need to be yourself. Were we wrong?
Lola: Moving on. I printed up all of my different menus. Maybe too many. Does that make it seem like I can't make a decision? Or that I don't have enough confidence? Too much. Too much confidence. Too much reasonable confidence. Because that makes it seem like I'm a show-off, and who would want to hire a show-off to run a restaurant? I mean, no one. I would never -- I would never hire --
Kyle: Do you need to drop something again? Will that make you slow down?
Lola: [ Sighs ] I want this.
Kyle: I know.
Lola: More than I've ever wanted anything.
Kyle: It's close enough to touch, lola.
Lola: Which means that it's close enough to lose.
Kyle: You're going to talk to devon and abby. Not like someone asking for a job. You're going to approach them, and make it clear you know exactly what you have to offer. This is everything you've been working for. All you have to do now is lock it down.
Lola: Lock it down. [ Sighs ]
Ana: And for devon, it was this massive betrayal. A song! He took it as this crime against our relationship, that I overstepped and he couldn't trust me, and I just... how do I stay around that? How do I stay in his home or walk around the office knowing what he thinks about me?
Nate: That's not it.
Ana: It is. I heard him. You didn'T.
Nate: I get why he's upset. But he overreacted. By a mile. Because, look, this is not about you.
Ana: It was me he was yelling at. Maybe we just had too many years apart.
Nate: No, because I saw what it meant for him to have you there at christmas. And every other day.
Ana: All those other days, he's putting me in my place, and telling me everything I've done wrong. This isn't the first time it's happened. Devon doesn't want me here. He doesn't need my help.
Nate: That's because he can't see it. Which means he needs it even more. It's hard. I get it. Even when, you know, he pushes you away. But, listen, I'm not trying to tell you to forget how you're feeling, because it hurts. I can see that.
Nate: So let me help. Okay? I'm right across the hall. Come and talk to me. Vent to me. Yell at me. It's fine. I'm a big boy. I can take it. Just don't give up on devon. You guys can get through this.
Ana: I thought we had. I was wrong.
Nate: No, no, no, no, no. Just...one more try. Even if it's just to tell him why you want to go. Just do it in person.
Devon: [ Sighs ] Ana! Ana?
Great news, liberty
mutual customizes-
Mr. Newman, you got a visitor.
Victor: Who is it?
I don't know.
Devon: Hey. I thought you left for good.
Ana: Not yet. Not like that. It wouldn't be right. Nate helped me see that.
Devon: Thank you, man. I mean it. Um... before you go, if you still want to go, I need to tell you something. I don't know what I'm doing. Most of the time, I think that I'm doing right by my job and by my family, and I think that I have every situation under control, and then something like this happens, and it makes me realize I don't know anything at all. When you played me your version of fen's song yesterday, I flipped out. And I don't know why i reacted that way. I don't know why I said the things that I said to you. But I shouldn't have, because that's not how I feel. I know you, and I trust you. And [Sighs] Maybe you're right when you said that the song needed more feeling than what I could give it. And I think that maybe that's because, most of the time, I'm trying not to feel anything at all. Um... I'm not looking for a free pass or anything like that, but I just -- I don't want you to feel like you have to walk on eggshells when you're around me 'cause you think I'm gonna flip out again. Um... so, I'm asking if you will stay, here and at hamilton-winters. Because I promise you that I will be a better brother. If you already feel like you need to go, though, I understa--
Ana: I'm not going anywhere.
Devon: Are you sure?
Ana: I said so.
Nate: Take "yes" as an answer, buddy.
Devon: You're right sometimes.
Nate: [ Scoffs ] "Sometimes"? All the time?
Devon: [ Chuckles ] I'm gonna take your bags upstairs before you change your mind.
Ana: [ Chuckles ]
Devon: But before I do, I want you to have this.
Ana: What's this?
Devon: Well, I got it for you before I found your note, because I knew I was a jerk before you were gonna take off. I just didn't know how big of a jerk. But I hope that you like it. This is our home now. So I figured that we should have pictures of us.
Ana: I love it.
Devon: Yeah?
Ana: Thank you.
Devon: 'Course.
Cane: [ Sighs ]
[ Sighs ]
Lily: Dear cane, it made sense to write since the line for the phone was so long today. And lately our calls have been a little strained.
[ Bottles clank ]
[ Air hisses ]
Cane: [ Sighs ]
Lily: Which is to be expected. People listening, other voices cutting in. Sometimes I have so much to say to you, but the words never come out. At least, not the words I'm looking for. And sometimes the words I need to hear. I don't even know what I need to hear, but I know it's not the same as face-to-face. It's helped having dad close-by. He's starting to understand what it's really like here. Not that anyone really can unless you live it. That's why you have no choice but to really get to know the women here, get invested in each other's lives, talk about kids and relationships, problems and priorities. And once in a while, plans. But those are trickier. You need future plans to get through the hours here. But then again, sometimes it feels like tempting fate. As if pushing for something is a way to make sure it never actually comes true. Our phone calls are hard for me sometimes. Because it's the opposite of how my conversations are here day-to-day. You and I talk about the past and the future, but we avoid the now. And I know sometimes that's my fault. I live this life. So talking about it just feels like more of the same.
[ Scoffs ] I don't know what I'm trying to say. It doesn't get easier here, but it does become more normal. And that's scary in itself. Like I'm losing who I was, and she's not coming back. I'm sorry. This isn't what you want to read. Thank you for looking out for the kids, and being the best father possible. I'm grateful they have you. My love to you all. Lily.
Cane: [ Sighs ]
Victor: [ Chuckles ]
To most, he's
phil mickelson...
Victor: I'll be damned. Is that how you spend your time now, instead of leading jabot? Oh, I forgot. You're working for my boy now, aren't you? And an outsider is running jabot? Company your father built?
Jack: I came to check on you. An act of charity.
Victor: Really? How kind of you. Did you think you'd find me here depressed and despondent?
Jack: Oh, no, no, no. I assume if anyone knows the ropes, it's you. I just wanted to put your mind at ease.
Victor: [ Chuckles ] Oh, yeah? How's that?
Jack: Well, we're both patriarchs of our respective families, and I know how difficult it must be to not be at home with the people that you love. But your family, of course, has, at times, been my family. I have a relationship with nikki. My connection with nicholas and victoria, especially abby. Just rest assured, I will look out for them no matter how long you're...away.
Victor: Ohh. That is so kind of you, jack. My god. You're offering to take care of my family while I'm here, right? Got news for you. They're newmans. They don't need anyone's help. Besides... I run things from in here. Including my business. So you know what you can do with your generous offer, right?
Devon: I read about victor. I'm sorry to hear about all that stuff.
Abby: Thanks. Yeah, um... well, it's making me crazy thinking about him being locked up. And everything they're saying about him and J.T., None of it is true.
Devon: You know we could have postponed today if you wanted to. It's totally fine.
Abby: No, lola is ready. And I don't want that building i bought sitting empty any longer than it needs to. We need to start making money.
Devon: [ Chuckles ]
Ana: I'm gonna clear out before the chef arrives.
Devon: No, you're not. You were here when we decided to hire lola, and I want you here now. I want to get your opinion on all the recipes.
Ana: Well, all right, then.
Abby: [ Chuckles ]
Ana: But full disclosure -- I think she's a genius. And I didn't have breakfast, so don't try to fight me for the last bite of anything.
[ Devon and abby laugh ]
[ Doorbell rings ]
Devon: Oh.
Ana: Ah, my new favorite sound.
Devon: Oh, my gosh. Why do you act like I lock the fridge?
Ana: [ Whispers ] He locks the fridge.
[ Abby laughs ]
Devon: All right. Hey, hey!
Lola: Hi.
Devon: It's the woman of the hour. You bring enough stuff?
Lola: [ Chuckles ]
Devon: Let me help you out, please.
Lola: Thank you.
Devon: Yeah.
Abby: We are all so excited for today.
Lola: Me too. So, I will head into the kitchen in a sec, and we will sort through some of the dishes that I think will set the style and tone for our new restaurant. And even if it's a classic dish, we will have our own personal spin to it.
Abby: I love that. 'Cause, yeah, we -- we want to be distinctive and stand out. We don't want to follow any trends.
Devon: That's right. We don't do that. We set the trends.
Abby: Mm-hmm.
Lola: And if there's a dish that you don't like, that you think doesn't fit --
Abby: You have good instincts, lola.
Lola: I know. That's what I was just going to say.
Abby: [ Chuckles ]
Lola: That before we cross anything off the list, you give me a chance to explain why i think it works with the overall concept.
Devon: For sure, yeah. Sounds good to me.
Lola: I am so glad. I really want this. I want this chance. And these dishes, this menu, it speaks to me. It speaks for me. And, honestly, I think we could really have something special here.
Abby: Do we even deserve you? I'm not convinced that we do.
Devon: She just keeps setting the bar. We just have to meet it. That's all.
Lola: Okay. So, I'm going to get started. And you will need these...
Abby: Thank you.
Lola: ...So you know what's coming.
Devon: Okay.
[ Murmurs inaudibly ]
Abby: Mm-hmm.
[ Sighs ]
Cane: Hey! How was your day? You guys hungry?
Mattie: No.
Charlie: Uh, kind of.
Cane: [ Sighs ]
Charlie: Hey, um... can we talk to you about something?
Cane: Um... sure. Yeah.
Mattie: We heard from reed, and he's holding a memorial service for his dad tomorrow at their house. It's nothing big, but he invited us specifically, and I think we should go be there for him. All three of us.
Cane: That's not a good idea. Jardiance asked:
"The young and the restless"
will continue.
Cane: Look, it's just, given what happened recently, i don't think it's a good time to go to reed's house, okay?
Mattie: You told me it's handled. Reed's grandmother's okay, isn't she? I mean, yeah, it's horrible, and it's scary, but the people who need to know do now.
Cane: But that doesn't mean you need to rub it in their face, all right? And given the reason that reed was driving is because --
Charlie: I know. It's my fault.
Cane: All right.
Charlie: But reed asked us to come. He wouldn't do that for no reason.
Mattie: Yeah, reed's dad is dead. He's trying to process it. Isn't this a healthy way to deal with it?
Cane: All right, listen, I --
Charlie: Plus his grandfather's in jail? I-I mean, dad, he needs all the help and support he can get.
Cane: Okay. Listen, I understand this, all right, but victoria's part of this, and it's her ex-husband that died, and it's her house, and it's her family --
Mattie: Dad, what are you saying?
Charlie: Are you trying to say reed's mom doesn't want us there?
Lola: So, I tried to select dishes that would work all day. Certain breakfast foods that you can eat late-night with a beer -- or three, and a ride home.
[ Abby chuckles ] And for dinner, I also selected small dishes, because that's the whole point, right?
Abby: Mm-hmm.
Lola: To celebrate and share with your loved ones. But one thing that I have noticed is that, when you have a bigger plate, and the server brings it into the dining room, other diners notice. They lean over their table, and they ask what they're holding, and then they start a conversation, and then everyone's speaking about our food in our restaurant, and nobody is a stranger. And I think that's the mood that we want to set. Or maybe I'm just saying what I think and not what you want, and maybe we --
Abby: I love your passion for this, lola.
Devon: So do I.
Abby: Mm-hmm.
Devon: And I love your food.
Ana: Yeah, not one miss in all of this. The consistency is amazing.
Devon: There's some pricing suggestions that are a little off, but aside from that, it'S...
Lola: Too high?
Devon: No, it's too low. I think people will pay good money for this kind of food.
Lola: But, uh, with all due respect to your profit margin, I don't want to price people out.
Abby: We won'T. Ever. There's options on the menu for regular meals or special date-night entrees.
Devon: Absolutely. And you're right about the shared plates, but we also want to have smaller dishes for the bar menu, too, right?
Abby: Agreed. Mm-hmm.
Lola: So, is there anything that you don't like that we -- you think we should take out? Because I really put in a lot of thought to every single thing, the ingredients and the heat level --
Abby: It shows. These dishes are solid.
[ Chuckles ]
Lola: [ Sighs ] Really?
Devon: Yes, really. It's like my associate said -- there's not a miss in the bunch here.
Ana: And that's not just 'cause I'm your biggest fan.
Lola: Really? I don't have to defend any dishes? Because I can. I came prepared.
Devon: I can see that.
Abby: Look, I know all this can be intimidating. It is for me, too. I mean, of all the businesses I've been a part of, I've never opened a restaurant before. But we are all doing what we do best, and this is going to work.
Lola: It's really going to work, isn't it? Okay. I will go pack up.
Devon: Hang on. There is one more thing that we need to discuss, 'cause we can't really move forward until it's settled.
Jack: The same place they kept me when they accused me of trying to kill you last year.
Victor: Instead, you rummaged through my office, and you stole my belongings, didn't you?
Jack: Turns out it was J.T. All along, and now here you are, accused of killing him. I guess the long arm of the law finally has the guilty party.
Victor: Oh, yeah? You think so?
Jack: Oh, I-I don't judge.
Victor: Mm.
Jack: I mean, I don't know the whole story. How could I? But do I think you killed him?
[ Victor chuckles ] Ab-so-lutely.
Victor: Of course you do. But then, you know, you're wrong, and who gives a damn what you think?
Jack: Now, I'm not saying that J.T. Didn't provoke you. I mean, he made an attempt on your life not once, but twice. Betrayed victoria to infiltrate your company. I don't know which infuriated you more -- him tricking your daughter or him playing you so well to your face. You invite him into your home, you give him a job. You have no idea what he's up to. I know how much you pride yourself on looking into the hearts of men and seeing the evil that lurks there. I don't know. With J.T., Maybe your radar was on the fritz. That had to sting. My sympathies to michael. He has to try to win this case. I mean, you're victor newman, standing means and motive.
Victor: Michael baldwin will not represent me.
Jack: Oh, you're seeking outside counsel?
Victor: No one will represent me. I refuse to play the D.A.'S game.
Jack: Ah, there it is. That majestic ego that blots out the sun. And logic and reason. Seriously. "It wasn't me" is your whole defense? So much for looking out for your family. Hell, you won't even look out for yourself. Your insurance rates skyrocket after a scratch so small
Abby: Your contract.
Lola: So it's official.
[ Sighs ]
Lola: Wow. So many words.
Devon: [ Chuckles ]
Abby: It's all standard, but you probably should have a lawyer take a look at it.
Devon: Yeah. It's all a part of business, though. We all need to feel protected, and you need to be assured that you're comfortable with every part of the deal.
Ana: And one thing I didn't realize before I got to lp -- it's okay to go back and forth over a deal. Fine-tune it. That's how this works.
Devon: Absolutely. She's right.
Abby: And one last detail.
Lola: Wait, what? It's a check. With zeroes. But we haven't even opened yet.
Abby: It's an advance. A retainer. Once we're up and running, you'll get a salary. But until then, we want to make sure you're happy.
Lola: This is too much.
Devon: Lola, I'm gonna say something to you. You need to hear me, okay? It's not too much.
Abby: Devon is right. Your talent is worth that and more. Hey, we're all gonna profit from this, anyway, so, out of friendship and respect, shut up and enjoy it.
[ Laughter ]
Cane: Listen, you guys are good kids, all right, and you have a good heart, and you're good friends, and of course victoria would want you there for reed, all right? She wouldn't hold anything against you. But I'm a different story, here.
Charlie: What, do you think she still has something against you?
Cane: Look, we talked after the accident, all right, and still there's a lot of things she holds me responsible for -- things that went wrong in the past, all right? And...she's not wrong.
Mattie: Okay, I get that. But she's not about to turn you away from a memorial service. You and mr. Hellstrom were friends. I don't know why reed's mom would freak out about having you there.
Cane: I'm not saying that she's gonna freak out. I was just saying --
Mattie: Mom would go.
Cane: All right.
Mattie: If mom was here, all four of us would go as a family, and you wouldn't think twice.
Cane: All right, if your mom was here, there'd be a lot of things that would be different.
Charlie: So, what, all of a sudden we're not a family?
Cane: Of course we're a family.
Mattie: We can go without you, but it's weird. And I think it's hurtful for you to stay away. The last thing I want to do is make reed or anyone else feel worse at a time like this. Please, dad.
Cane: Okay. Okay. We'll go as a family.
Victor: I'm sure there are a lot of people who would delight in me taking the fall for this murder to get me out of the way. You might be one of them.
Jack: [ Scoffs ] Me?
Victor: Mm.
Jack: I avenged you?
Victor: Mm.
Jack: After all the wonderful things you have done for me? I killed your would-be murderer.
Victor: Mm. That a confession? I'll call the guards.
Jack: Oh, sorry to dash your very limited hopes, but, no, it wasn't me. Nice try, though.
Victor: Mm. You know I have quite a few enemies. You're not the only one.
Jack: Oh, yeah. I know. You have more than your share of enemies. Maybe someone did work very hard to set you up. Or maybe the answer's a whole lot simpler -- you murdered J.T.
Victor: You know I hate his guts, and I have reason to after what he has done to victoria, but I wouldn't kill him in cold blood. I wouldn't do that to his son, and I wouldn't do that to victoria. And besides, do you really think I would be so stupid as to plant a gun and a blood-stained shirt in my stables?
Jack: That's the only evidence the police have against you?
Victor: Whoever the unnamed enemy of mine is, he or she is not very bright, are they?
Jack: Wow. How 'bout that? You could be telling the truth.
Victor: How about that, jack?
Devon: So, I have this assistant manager at the club who's looking to move on to bigger and better things, and she's young and hungry, and has some very big ideas.
Ana: I'm forwarding you her contact information.
Abby: Perfect. Thank you. Yeah, I will set up a meeting for her and lola. What about that, um -- that bartender? The crazy one you were telling me about?
Devon: Yeah. That guy, he hosts private parties and has drink-tasting menus.
Abby: That's great. That's the vibe we're looking for.
Devon: Right?
Abby: Yeah.
Devon: Ana, would you --
Ana: I'll set up a tasting.
Devon: Thank you very much.
Abby: This is gonna be good.
Devon: It's gonna be great.
Abby: [ Chuckles ] Remind me again why it took us so long to work together.
Devon: You know, that's a very good question. I have no idea. I think we were just waiting for the right moment.
Abby: And here it is. You look... you look good. You look like yourself, you know what I mean?
Devon: Thank you.
Ana: It's because of you and this project.
Abby: No, I think it's because of you. Friends and partners are great, but family is special. And my family forgets that on a regular basis. You better not.
Devon: Oh, you have my word.
Kyle: Come in, come in. How was it? I need details.
Lola: I couldn't, uh... I just needed this to be in person.
Kyle: So... I should be tense and worried because you're acting weird, but... it was great, wasn't it?
Lola: It was incredible.
Kyle: [ Exclaims ]
Lola: They loved everything. And they had notes, but they showed me respect. It was like we were a team, like we were all in this together.
Kyle: New concept for a one-woman traveling restaurant.
Lola: Uh, I didn't know how a collaboration was going to work, but now I do. With trust, respect, and actual friendship.
Kyle: This is how good business gets done. The bad ones, they're another story altogether.
Lola: They gave me a contract.
Kyle: Uh-huh.
Lola: So I'm going to need a recommendation for a lawyer.
Kyle: Done.
Lola: And, uh, they gave me a check. A really big one. Like, enough of these, and i could buy my own ridiculously expensive purse -- not that I would.
Kyle: You earned it.
Lola: [ Sighs ] It's an advance, so technically, no, I haven't earned it.
Kyle: Not true.
Lola: I...
Kyle: That money's for all the ingredients you bought to test recipes, for all the time you spent thinking and prepping and researching, for creating a menu that puts customers in seats and money in abby and devon's pockets. So, yes, you earned it. Because none of this would be happening without you.
Lola: They could have hired another chef.
Kyle: But they didn'T. Because you busted your butt to get this. And you'll keep doing that, and there will be more checks, and you'll earn those, too. You'll pour your heart and soul into this, same as you do with your family and friends. Watching you, the way you invest in things, it's this wholehearted, pure, honest dedication. It's what I love about you.
[ Sighs ]
Lola: Thank you for always being so supportive.
Kyle: I'm not. I am. But that's not what I'm doing here. What I'm doing is...
[ Chuckles ] ...Saying I love you. I love you.
Lola: I love you, too.
Jack: Kind of seems like the time has come. Guilty or not doesn't really matter. You're going down.
Victor: Mm-hmm. Not gonna happen, jack.
Jack: I don't think you're gonna be able to seduce the prison doctor this time. You may have to live out your full sentence.
Victor: [ Chuckles ] Well, you enjoy your fantasies.
Jack: The D.A. And the police department are determined to nail you for this. They don't have any other suspects. You're the man.
Victor: Hate to disappoint you, jack. They ain't got nothing. Not anything sufficient to convict me.
Jack: [ Slaps table ] I-I wonder how many other people in here for life have had that very same thought?
Victor: Mm-hmm.
Jack: [ Knocks on door ] Thank you.
Victor: [ Sighs ]
