Episode #11526 ~ Phyllis pushes Victoria too far; Devon lets his guard down.
Provided By Suzanne
Previously on "the young and the restless"...Lola: I am the head chef of a new restaurant.
Abby: Devon and I are the owners.
Ana: I know a hit when I hear one.
Devon: There's a whole lot more that goes into making hit records than just finding the talent.
Fen: In the studio, I thought that was your song.
Ana: I wrote it. But you can't tell devon.
Reed: I need it to be over.
Victoria: How?
Reed: Maybe...a memorial or a ceremony?
Victoria: This is our family pulling together in a time of emergency, just like you raised us to be.
Victor: Has your brother told you that he suspects that I may have killed J.T. Hellstrom? Do you share your brother's belief that I am a murderer?
Victoria: Not one bit.
Victoria: Well, you didn't need to come over here. The prep for J.T.'S memorial is under control. Reed and I are handling everything.
Billy: Then why do you look like you got the weight of the world on your shoulders?
Victoria: Because the memorial itself probably shouldn't be happening,& especially right here in this house.
[ Sighs ] When J.T. Moved in here, I was so blissed-out... I had no idea the nightmare it was gonna be. And that it would all end right here in this very house. The relationship, I mean. And, um... my illusions about the kind of man that he'd become. He tried to kill my father twice, and now my father's the one facing murder charges.
Billy: Vick, I'm sorry. I shouldn't have jumped on board with reed's idea without checking with you first.
Victoria: No. [ Sighs ] It's okay. What can we do? He says he needs closure.
Billy: But it doesn't have to come at your expense. Look, I knew you weren't thrilled about it, but I can see that you're really bothered by it.
Victoria: As long as reed doesn't see it. This is for him. My feelings should not be involved at all. Forget I said anything.
[ Sighs ] What can I do about it, anyway?
Billy: You can sit him down, talk to him. Tell him that he has to cancel the memorial.
Phyllis: Nick? Hello? Nick?
Nick: Oh, hey. Sorry. You need me? I wasn't listening.
Phyllis: Copy that. Where were you just now?
Nick: [ Sighs ] Just thinking about my parents. You know, my dad's behind bars. He was denied bail. My mom is supposed to be home, recuperating quietly at the ranch. Well, how can she do that when she's so stressed out about the charges against my dad?
Phyllis: The same way she always has. She survived a hit-and-run and pulled herself out of a coma. She's nikki newman.
Nick: [ Sighs ] Yeah, I know. My mom's tough. But... something else is messing with my head.
Phyllis: What?
Nick: Initially, I thought the cops had it right -- that my dad is the one who murdered J.T. But after spending time with dad at the jail, I'm not so sure now. I mean, what if he's telling the truth?
Phyllis: Okay. I need to stop you right there.
Nick: Why?
Phyllis: Because. I can see where this is going, and if you keep down this path, you're gonna regret it.
Lola: [ Sighs ] Everyone, listen up, please!
[ Bangs counter ]
Rey: [ Chuckles ]
Lola: Thank you all for coming.
Mia: [ Chuckles ]
Rey: Well, you two came. We live here.
Mia: Mm.
Lola: Okay, so you're all clear -- this is a trial run for my very important meeting with devon and abby tomorrow, where I show them my sample menus, and prepare them a tasting that will knock them on their butts. Today's the final dress rehearsal, so it's the last chance I have to change anything that isn't working.
Kyle: We're just saying how excited we are to be your taste-testers.
Rey: That's right. We can't wait to be blown away.
Mia: Mm.
Lola: I want this to be fun, obviously, but there are two rules that you need to follow.
Rey: Or else what?
Lola: Ugh. Rule number one -- I need the focus to be the food, okay? No getting distracted with chitchat -- or interrogating my boyfriend. I am the one that's gonna do the grilling here today.
[ Laughter ] Rule number two -- please be honest. I need serious feedback. Devon and abby are gambling buckets of money, and putting the reputation of their new restaurant in line by hiring an unknown young chef. So... tomorrow is the day that I show them whether that's the smart idea, or I go back to my truck seven days a week. So if you love something i serve, let me know. And, even more crucial, if you don't, please speak up. This isn't about my ego. It's about my future. So nothing but total, brutal honesty, okay?
Mia: You know I'm not one to hold back.
Lola: That's why I'm here.
Mia: [ Chuckles ]
Fen: Show me what you're workin' with
yeah
show me how you do it
show me how you do it show me what you're workin' with
oh, oh
show me how you do it
yeah
[ Song ends ]
Fen: [ Chuckles ]
Devon: Nice.
Ana: Hi.
Fen: Hey!
Devon: Hey. That was the final mix of our star discovery's first single.
Fen: Yeah.
Devon: Andi couldn't be more proud of him, man.
Fen: That was -- that was great. You did an awesome job.
Devon: Thank you. You did, too. What do you think?
Ana: The truth?
Fen: Yeah.
Devon: Of course.
Ana: I wasn't feeling it.
Devon: Why?
Ana: Because you got the production all wrong.

[ Song ends ]
[ Music stops ] So, now you heard it from the beginning. Do you see what we're going for?
Ana: I stand by my opinion. It needs work.
Devon: Well, I stand by mine. I think it's a hit song. What specific aspects of it do you think can be improved?
Ana: It's not that it doesn't sound great. It's as polished and commercial as any single out there. You're a fantastic producer.
Devon: But?
Ana: What's missing is the emotion. It doesn't stir you right here. Because the true meaning of the lyrics are buried under all of that...polish.
Devon: It's not supposed to be some deep, emotional song. It's a pop song. So it's supposed to be loose, supposed to be infectious to make people want to, like, sing along to it when they're in the shower, or when they're driving to work. And I think we achieved that, which is gonna make it successful.
Ana: You know what you're doing. I just wish you were open to a different approach.
Devon: Oh, I'm open to any suggestion that's gonna make more people download his music. So, fen, what do you think? Do you agree with ana, or do you think the song is fine the way it is?
Fen: Oh, uh, uh -- heh... I'm -- I'm -- I'm -- I'm cool with whatever you guys decide. I mean, you both have very clear ideas here. And I am just so grateful for all the passion and support and --
Devon: Sure. Just make a choice, though.
Fen: Um... well, I-I -- I mean, you're the boss, so it's always gonna be up to you, isn't it?
Devon: Well, yeah. And I'm deciding that we're gonna go with this one. So that's settled. As always, ana, I appreciate your perspective. But I think we're done here.
Billy: Wouldn't be like you're preventing him from saying goodbye. You're just -- you know, he's gonna have to figure out a different way of doing it.
Victoria: But he wants to do it here, in the home where he has his last good memories with his father, and I can't take that away from him. It would be cruel.
Billy: No, it wouldn't, actually.
Victoria: I can't do it! I have to suck it up and be the parent here. Without closure, how is he supposed to start being a normal kid again? I owe him that.
Billy: You owe yourself, after the pain that J.T. Caused.
Victoria: I'll be okay. I promise. I can handle it. I have to.
Nick: You want one?
Phyllis: No, that's okay. Thanks.
Nick: Look [Sighs] I know you think my father is guilty, and he may be. But if there's a chance that he's not, I have to consider it.
Phyllis: Says who? After everything that man's done to you, you can't stop yourself from wanting to believe in him. Even though he's more than capable of murder -- after learning that your sister was abused, I mean, J.T. Tried to kill him not only once, but twice. He even announced on live tv that he was going after J.T. All of the evidence is pointing to victor.
Nick: It's purely circumstantial. It's as if someone is trying to set him up. But I agree with you. He has motive. Very powerful, very compelling motive.
[ Sighs ] Man, I hate this.
Phyllis: And I hate seeing what this does to you... after all the hard work you have put in to getting out from under victor's shadow. Please do not forget that you have succeeded. You won your independence. You broke free from him. And you have been thriving ever since. But now victor is in trouble, and the family is facing a crisis. So the newman instinct is kicking in. Circling the wagons. You're gonna look out for one another at all costs. That is what he's counting on, and he's gonna use that to his own advantage.
Nick: I don't want to believe that.
Phyllis: I know, baby, but you have got to look at the track record. How many times have you turned your back on your father, only to go running back when he needed your help? And each one of those times, you were hoping that it was gonna be a new beginning, that things were gonna get better between you. But every time, you ended up feeling used and betrayed. The higher the stakes, the worse it felt, the more it hurt. And you do not deserve that kind of pain. I hate seeing it. I am asking you, please, just don't get pulled back into victor's toxic orbit. Okay? The best thing you can do for yourself -- and everything that you have achieved -- is just to walk away. All right?
Kyle: [ Sighs ]
Mia: I was just telling rey, it's not too late to get into hockey.
Rey: Well, I think you need to know how to ice-skate first.
Kyle: [ Chuckles ]
Mia: I mean as a fan. Hockey is nothing but soccer on ice. Wouldn't you say, kyle?
Kyle: Eh... in a way, that's accurate.
Mia: And I'm sure you have box seats to the games.
Kyle: Uh-huh.
Mia: And I bet sometimes you have no one to go with you. Wouldn't it be a tiny bit better to take rey to one of those games instead of having to miss out on them?
Rey: Are you trying to set me and kyle up on a -- on a hockey date?
Kyle: Hey, I'd be all for it.
Mia: See?
Kyle: I'm getting a refill. Anyone else.
Rey: Mm.
Mia: Mm. No, thanks.
Kyle: Can I get you a drink?
Lola: I'm good.
Kyle: Ah.
[ Groans ] Everything smells delicious.
Lola: [ Sighs ] It better taste that way, or it'll be the end of my very short, tragic professional life.
Kyle: Ah, don't think of it like that.
Lola: [ Sighs ]
Kyle: Today, you're just cooking for the three of us. And we both know you'll ace it.
Lola: [ Sighs ] Uh... your support and confidence are very adorable, but I really need my space.
Rey: Kyle! No customers in the kitchen. Do I need to call security?
Kyle: No need. I was just leaving.
Lola: [ Sighs ]
Kyle: Ahh.
Devon: Yeah, we're gonna be going late in the studio tonight, so just make sure it's booked out. Okay, good. Thanks.
Ana: Freshly-squeezed lemonade?
Devon: Hey. Oh, you read my mind. Thank you very much.
Fen: Thanks.
Devon: Um, hey, ana? You remember when you told me that you wanted to learn everything there is to know about the music industry?
Ana: Mm-hmm.
Devon: Well, our little debate earlier was just me trying to teach you about production strategy and marketing and that kind of thing, you know? So, I didn't mean to make you feel like your opinions were being dismissed.
Ana: I know that wasn't your intention.
Devon: Good.
[ Cellphone rings ] Hang on a second. Excuse me. Hi. Devon hamilton. Sure, sure. Uh... just give me one moment, please. I have to take this upstairs. Do you guys mind being okay down here?
Ana: Oh, we're fine.
Devon: Yeah? Okay. Hi. Sorry about that.
Ana: Do you really like the song this way?
Fen: [ Clears throat ] Uh, well, I --
Ana: More to the point, do you think it's the best that it can be?
Fen: Look, um... I know how disappointing it must feel, you know, having devon disagree with your ideas, but... you got to admit, the dude knows what he's talking about. Okay? I thought his mix was fantastic, even though it is so... not what you had in mind.
Ana: Congrats. What a diplomatic answer. Being able to talk like that is a major skill, so keep fine-tuning it. For someone who's never heard of you or the song, you're right. It's probably awesome. But I just know how good it could be. And I think you believe me.
Fen: No, of course I do. I mean, you... you put your heart into it. But, I mean, it's already a done deal, so... uh... I mean, isn't it?
Ana: Honestly? I think I can sway devon. If I can just get my hands on the latest version of that song asap.
Fen: But how?
Ana: Devon must have sent you a file with the final mix on it.
Fen: No, no. I am not cool with going behind devon's back again. All right? He lost it when we used the studio time without permission, remember?
Ana: What I recall is him getting over it and signing you to his label. Because what really matters to him is talent. And I think if I can get just one more chance to show him mine, it'll be another win for us. And the song. And your career.
Fen: [ Exclaims ] Me and devon, we -- I mean, we really clicked, you know? I mean, he -- he really likes me, and he really likes my music. Okay, o-our music.
Ana: This won't blow back and mess you up. I promise. All you need to do is forward me that file. When I'm through with it, you'll see that I'm right. And so will devon. And the three of us will have an even bigger hit to launch your career with. Believe in me. The way I believed in you.
Fen: Oh, my -- god, you have no mercy.
[ Huffs ] Okay. There. It's done.
Ana: Oh... you won't regret this.
Lola: So... first course done. What do you think? Be honest.
Mia: It was cooked to perfection.
Lola: What was?
Mia: All of it. Even though... I didn't expect it to be so... traditional.
Rey: Yeah, did devon and abby tell you to go in a different direction?
Lola: No, they said nothing. They kind of left it up to me. Which is why I decided to play it safe. You know, the restaurant is trying to appeal to a broader demo, and usually my dishes are a little specific.
Mia: That's the service industry. Absolutely, you want to sell what the customer wants before they've even figured that out for themselves.
Lola: Are you saying you didn't like it? Any of it?
Rey: No -- no, no, no, no, no, no. I loved it. I loved every bite. It's just, um... [ Sighs ] What's the term? Uh... it seemed, uh, off-brand.
Mia: There you go.
Lola: But I thought I just explained that -- that I'm trying to widen my brand. You've been oddly quiet.
Kyle: Um... you wanted my unvarnished opinion, so here it is. Uh... this food was obviously made by a supremely talented chef...
Mia: Mm-hmm.
Kyle: ...But it could have been...any talented chef. The things that make your food so special and unique were... missing.
Lola: Okay.
Kyle: But, look, I-I think that if you would have --
Lola: No, I-I heard you. I heard all of you. Clearly I don't know what I'm doing.
[ Silverware clatters ]
Reed: Hey, billy, um, do you know if my mom's here? I'm supposed to talk to her and lock down some details about my dad's memorial.
Billy: No, I think that's all -- that's all good to go. She, uh, stepped out for a little bit, but she'll be back soon.
Reed: I hope that's true. Um... you don't think she's just putting off talking to me?
Billy: Why would you say that?
Reed: [ Sighs ] Because yesterday, when you left, she seemed really into the idea, but... but I could tell that it was bothering her. And, I mean, I get it, with everything that dad did to grandpa, but... in spite of everything, she said that there was a lot of good in him. That he loved me. And... I can't help thinking that there's a little part in her that's always gonna love him.
Billy: Yeah, I'd say so.
Reed: There's also a part in -- in her that'll always hate him, too, right?
Billy: Well, reed, I don't know if I'd -- I'd put it that way, but... you know, their relationship was... it was...complex.
Reed: Could you just tell me the truth and be straight with me, billy? Does mom wish that I had never asked to do this? Would she prefer if I called the whole thing off?
Victoria: So [Sighs] Reed and I would appreciate both of you attending. Can we count on you?
Phyllis: I think we're both a little surprised.
Nick: Should you be doing a memorial for a guy who did such terrible things to you?
Victoria: Well, it's not on the top of my to-do list, but it was reed's idea, and he thinks it will help give him closure.
Nick: Okay. Then we will be there. We need to do everything we can for reed. He has had a pretty rotten year.
Phyllis: Yeah. I can't imagine how difficult it is knowing that your grandfather murdered your father.
Victoria: Are you really still spewing that garbage? My father did not kill J.T.
Phyllis: Well, all of the evidence is pointing to the contrary. That's what nick and I were just discussing.
Victoria: Oh, I bet you were. Nick, please don't listen to her. We need to stand by dad, and we need to fight for him.
Nick: Well, um... it's not that easy for me, vick.
Victoria: Why not?
Nick: I'm just not as convinced as you are. Look, when it comes to you and mom and the rest of the family, I am there for you 100%. When it comes to dad, I'm not sure how much benefit of the doubt I can give him. I'm sorry. I'm just being honest.
The day after chemo might
mean a trip back to
"The young and the restless"
will continue.
Fen: [ Clears throat ] Okay. Um... if I ever doubted you, I apologize.
Ana: So you agree? My version's better than devon's?
Fen: Hell yeah! It was astounding. I mean -- [ Stammers ] How did you take something so great and improve it so radically?
Ana: Thank you. That means more to me than... I can say.
[ Chuckles ]
Fen: And when you bring this to devon, explain why you're so passionate about the song. Okay? If he knows that you wrote this, I-I am sure that he will look at you completely differently, and be much more collaborative. And... I'd really love to have you in the studio while we work on my album.
Ana: I heart what you're saying, and you're probably right, but... I'm still committed to keeping my songwriting anonymous.
Fen: I get it. Hey, that's -- that's up to you.
Ana: But I do want to be more involved with devon's music division. Especially your career.
Fen: Yeah, I'd like that, too.
Ana: Perfect. Let's make that happen.
Fen: All right.
Rey: [ Sighs ]
[ Smooches ]
Lola: I'm sorry I freaked out.
Rey: It's okay.
Mia: Take a break, sweetie. Relax.
Kyle: I feel bad that what i said upset you so much.
Lola: Don't, okay? Because I asked for your honest opinion, and you guys gave it to me. Now I know. I'm way in over my head here.
Kyle: Not at all. Listen to me.
Rey: [ Sighs ]
Kyle: You're feeling overwhelmed. It's normal. This was a practice meal. The whole point was to get feedback, and to know what you need to correct for tomorrow.
Lola: But it's not just about tomorrow, okay? It's about every single day after that. Yes, sure, I'm a great chef. When it comes to food trucks and small catering gigs.
Kyle: No way. You were meant for so much more. You were ecstatic when you got this chance. Because running a restaurant is your dream.
Lola: Yeah, but there's a dream, and then there's a reality. Two very different things. Okay? I'm supposed to come up with menus for breakfast, lunch, dinner, bars, late nights? Not to mention, I'm supposed to cook most evenings, and then lead a kitchen staff. It's too much. No, I was insane to think that a food-truck girl could generate the kind of excitement and cash-driven income that devon and abby need for their restaurant.
[ Scoffs ] Yeah, you know what? Where's my phone? Do you, um...?
Kyle: Why?
Lola: Because I need to call abby and let her know that she needs a new head chef. I can't do this. I don't want to waste any more of their time, and make a way bigger fool of myself than i already have.
Reed: You swear you're not just saying that?
Billy: Yeah, because it's the truth. She knows how much a memorial means to you, okay? And she's on board fully.
Reed: Really?
Billy: She's at your uncle nick's right now, asking him to come.
Reed: She is?
Billy: Look, man, whatever conflicting feelings she has about your father, they pale in comparison to how much she loves you. And trust me, that's what it means to be a parent. And your mom, she is one of the best.
Reed: I mean, I don't want to force her into something that...
[ Sighs ]
Billy: This is important to you, okay? You need to do this for your dad, and she needs to do it for you. And I hope that you both find closure in it.
Nick: I hate to take off on you like this, vick. I know we have some issues here. But I cannot miss this work meeting. We'll talk later, okay?
Victoria: Fine.
Nick: I'll see you.
Phyllis: Okay, honey. Something you care to discuss?
Victoria: What the hell is wrong with you?
Phyllis: Oh, I'm gonna take that as a yes.
Victoria: Why are you so set on convincing nick that our dad is a killer when you know he's innocent?
Phyllis: Innocent? Victor? Oh, you got to be kidding me.
Victoria: Oh, I see. This goes way past dad taking the heat off of us. This is about you wanting revenge.
Phyllis: You're damn right it is.
Kyle: Hey.
Lola: I want to be left alone.
Kyle: [ Sighs ] I heard you out. So now I'm asking for you to please step away from the utensils and listen for a few minutes.
Lola: Fair enough.
Kyle: Let's sit.
[ Stammers ] You're right. [ Sighs ] A restaurant's a massive undertaking. But you'll figure out how to run the kitchen and staff, same as you did with la vida lola when you've never had a truck before. And the one crucial element going into all this is the food. Devon and abby hired you because of what you bring to the table. Literally.
Lola: [ Snorts softly ]
Kyle: You have this gift for creating unique dishes with unexpected flavors, so don't second guess yourself and start worrying about what the masses might want. You make them realize they want something only you can give them. And if you put all your love and passion into your food, and let abby and devon do the rest, success will come. I'd stake my harvard mba on it.
Rey: Mm. Kyle is dead-on about this. You got what it takes. You always have. You were the most driven little girl I've ever seen. Do you remember when you were 5 years old, and you forced mom and me to let you safety-test the stove so you could prove that you wouldn't burn down the house? You remember that?
Kyle: You did that?
Lola: I had to. There were a lot of new things that I wanted to try making.
Mia: And when I first met you, you were smack in the middle of your sweet-and-salty phase.
Rey: That's right. And those were some creative combinations.
[ Mia laughs ]
Kyle: Ooh, like what?
Mia: Bacon flan. Double-fudge potato-chip brownies.
Lola: Why are you guys bringing this up? To torture me?
Rey: No, sweetheart. Because you learned from all that kooky experimentation.
Mia: Yes, and it didn't take long for your cooking to elevate to the next level, combining things that you don't often combine, that shouldn't work but did. I was so envious of what this one could combine in the kitchen in a matter of minutes. Still am.
Rey: And now you have perfected your craft, which is why you are getting this opportunity. You earned it.
Kyle: 'Cause you're ready. All you have to do is be true to yourself.
Rey: So? What do you think?
Lola: That you all need to stay the hell out of the kitchen, because I've got some cooking to do.
Mia: [ Chuckles ]
Kyle: Yes!
[ Ana's remix playing ]
Fen: We can do it all night long
talkin' about all night long
yeah, let's do it all night long
yeah, yeah
[ Music fades ]
[ Music stops ]
Ana: I hope you can see what I was trying to tell you. I mean, I-I hope you can hear the difference.
Devon: Yeah. Well, "different" doesn't mean better.
Ana: Oh, I-I know that. But with this, doesn't it make you... feel more?
Devon: What it makes me feel is offended by the lack of respect that this represents, because I thought that we were very clear we were gonna go with my version. And I didn't need you guys questioning my judgment, or just ignoring my decision altogether, and then going behind my back again.
Ana: Uh -- uh, fen had no part in this. It was all me. I took the song and made some changes. He just came along for moral support.
Devon: Okay. Well, if that's the case, fen, can you take off? 'Cause this is between me and my sister.
Fen: Um... [ Clears throat ] Okay, yeah. I will.
Devon: Thank you.
Fen: Hey, but don't -- don't be too tough on her, okay? Her heart's in the right place. And music means just as much to her as it does to you. And, you know, for what it's worth... she's got plenty of talent, too.
Ana: You're upset. I'm sorry. But I just had to do this.
Devon: No, you didn'T. You didn't have to do any of this. You claim that you came back to town so you can help me.
Ana: It's true.
Devon: Right? Since you've been here, I've given you a place to stay, I've given you a great job, and in return, all you've done is take advantage of me. And I don't appreciate it at all.
Ana: That's not what I'm doing. I only want what's best for you.
Devon: Is that right?
Ana: Yes. Supporting you in your life, in your business. Especially the music. If fen's song takes off, it's a victory for all of us. What I did today, I was only trying to help.
Devon: I believe that. I think that you were trying to help yourself.
Ana: What? Devon, no --
Devon: This is the second time that you have shown me what comes first to you, and that's your own ambition. So, I don't know if I can trust you. And that being said, moving forward, I don't think you should have anything to do with lp.
Victoria: I should have known that night, after we made the pact when J.T. Died, that you would be unable to resist twisting it for your own agenda.
Phyllis: Yeah, well, I have always hated your father because of what he did to jack and me, so I'm never gonna forgive him, so why wouldn't I savor every second he's behind bars?
Victoria: What my dad did to you and jack was hideous. No one's asking you to forgive him. But he served a prison term for it.
Phyllis: Oh, is that what you call it? Serving a term? He was sentenced to 10 years, and got off in a matter of months. How is that justice? Tell me.
Victoria: You want my father locked up for a murder that he didn't commit. Where is the justice in there?
Phyllis: I think it's the definition of justice. That is payback I've been waiting for for years. And the longer victor suffers, the better.
All tyson any'tizers chicken,
Ana: I know you're furious, but you didn't mean that, did you? That I can't be trusted?
Devon: I did mean it, yes, because you've proved it. All right? I have work to do.
Ana: No, please, don't go. We need to talk about this.
Devon: What I need is to be able to run my life and my business without you interfering. That's what I need. All right? So back off, please.
[ Contented chuckling ]
Lola: Any thoughts?
Kyle: I've had dozens of top-tier meals from world-famous chefs, and this was right up there.
Mia: Mmm. Well, unlike richie rich over here, I'm a stranger to the fine-dining circuit, but I will say [Smacks lips] On behalf of little havana, south beach, and genoa city, this is phenomenal, delectable perfection.
Rey: Salud.
Mia: Salud.
Rey: Mmm. You make this exact tasting menu tomorrow, abby and devon are gonna know they were absolutely correct when they decided to make you their chef.
Lola: Well, thank you all for being so...honest.
Mia: Mm. [ Chuckles ]
Lola: You know what I mean. Your encouragement was highly appreciated.
Mia: You know, after such yummy food, I need to take a walk.
Rey: Really? I'm good with just chilling on the couch.
Mia: Uh, hmm, no. You can do that after. Come on.
Rey: Okay.
Mia: I feel safer with a police escort.
Rey: [ Sighs ] Okay. Thank you.
Mia: Mm-hmm.
Lola: Thank you for reminding me of my strength when I needed it the most. You really came through for me today.
Kyle: And I always will. Because you're the most amazing, exciting --
Reed: Oh, cool. You got pizza.
Billy: Yeah, man. Can't do memorial prep on an empty stomach.
Reed: [ Sighs ] Hey, billy?
Billy: Yeah?
Reed: Thank you.
Billy: It's cool, man. I had a coupon.
Reed: [ Chuckles ] No. I'm not talking about this. Thank you for always being so cool with me. Like with this memorial, and stepping up with mom. She needs somebody to count on, even though she think she's too strong to admit it.
Billy: Whatever any of us need, I'm your guy, okay? And we're in this together. Pizza?
Reed: [ Chuckles ] Yeah.
Phyllis: You can go now. In fact, I wish you would.
Victoria: Oh, no. Not until I remind you of something. My mother is walking a very emotional fine line right now. I told you how much she would struggle if my dad took the fall for what she did. I predicted that.
Phyllis: Mm.
Victoria: I did. And she is distraught with guilt.
Phyllis: My condolences. What does this have to do with me?
Victoria: If my mom learns that you're trying to turn nick against my father, how do you think she's gonna react? When dad was arrested, I had to stop her from confessing.
Phyllis: If nikki confesses, she's an idiot. She is sacrificing her life and the future of her family for a power-mad creep of a husband.
Victoria: You wouldn't understand.
Phyllis: No, I think my analysis of you and your mother are spot-on. You both have poisoned yourselves with some perversely misplaced worship of victor. And you know it's true. You are a walking swamp of daddy issues. You always forgive him. You are rushing to his side. And what you carefully forget each and every time is that victor is as vile as J.T. Ever was, and deserves exactly what he gets!
Victoria: Don't you ever talk about my father like that.
Phyllis: You know what? I will talk exactly how I want about your father, and there isn't a damn thing you can do about it. You hear me?
Victoria: Oh, you think so?
Phyllis: Yeah, I know so!
Victoria: You just keep fanning the flames, phyllis. And don't be surprised if you get burned.
Phyllis: You don't want to threaten me.
Victoria: Pay attention. I just did.
