Episode #11501 ~ The Newman family is targeted, Devon confides in Nate, and Mariah struggles to connect with Tessa.
Provided By Suzanne
Previously on "the young and the restless"...Devon: I'm sorry that things haven't been the best around here.
Shauna: [Crying] If hilary's looking down on us right now, then she knows that I'm okay. She really wants you to be, too.
Nate: Devon is struggling. That's why neil and I both thought it was a good idea that you come back here -- to keep an eye on him without letting him know that that's what you were doing.
Mariah: You lie without even thinking about it.
Tessa: So why are you still here?
Michael: Fenmore.
Fen: Hi, mom. Hey, dad.
Nikki: My husband isn't evading justice, or whatever you're implying. He has a real-estate deal, and that's why he's not home with his family.
Victoria: What is it?
Nikki: Oh, my god. The stables are on fire!
Nikki: Oh, my god. The stables!
Victoria: Buck and al could still be in there.
Nikki: And the horses!
Victoria: Oh...
Rey: No.
Victoria: Aah!
Nikki: What -- [ Shrieks ]
Rey: Don't move. Stay where you are.
Victoria: We have to find out what's going on. Our employees and horses are still in there.
Rey: They're all fine. The ranch hand got them out, and moved them to a stable down the road.
Victoria: There could possibly be others!
Rey: The firefighters are doing everything they can to make sure everything's okay, and make sure everyone's safe. In the meantime, I'm gonna have to ask you both to leave.
Nikki: You can't order me off my own property.
Rey: I'm afraid I can. This is an ongoing investigation.
Victoria: Into what?
Rey: We got a phone call from the head of your security earlier tonight. Apparently, there was a trespasser on the property before the fire broke out.
Nikki: Wha-- are you saying that this was --
Rey: All I'm saying is, we're investigating what happened here tonight. Right now, that's all I can tell you.
Nikki: Fine. I'll be in the house while you do what you need to do.
Rey: No, that's not gonna work, either. I'm gonna have to ask you to leave the ranch.
Victoria: Until when?
Rey: Until I find out exactly what happened here tonight.
Devon: Hey. Didn't know you were still here.
Ana: I got home a little while ago. Shauna get out okay?
Devon: Yep. Cane made sure of that.
Ana: You going out?
Devon: Mm-hmm.
Ana: I was hoping to spend some time with you. Just the two of us.
Devon: You make it sound like shauna being gone is a good thing.
Ana: I didn't mean to. I know how hard it was for you to watch her go. If you'd like to talk --
Devon: I don'T. I'm good.
Ana: Okay. Well, I'll wait up for you.
Devon: Don't bother doing that, 'cause I won't be back home tonight.
Mariah: [ Sighs ]
Tessa: Long day?
Mariah: Yeah.
Tessa: Is there anything I can do to help?
Mariah: No, I just, uh, need to get some sleep.
Tessa: Okay. Well, uh, don't let me keep you up. Night.
Mariah: Night.
Tessa: Ugh...
[ Inhales, groans ] Mariah?
Mariah: Are you gonna help me or what?
Kyle: I need to know with what before I answer.
Mariah: Life. Feelings. Relationships.
Kyle: Ahh. Tessa.
Mariah: Are you in or are you out?
Kyle: [ Sighs ] Can I have some caffeine first?
Mariah: No! I need to do this now.
Victoria: Mom. You're up?
Nikki: [ Sighs ] Yeah. I couldn't sleep.
Victoria: Yeah, me either. Couldn't stop thinking about the fire...and rey saying that he's investigating.
Nikki: That's not all that I'm worried about.
Victoria: Has something else happened?
Nikki: [ Sighs ] I'm not sure.
Victoria: Mom, what's going on?
Nikki: I've been trying to reach your father. I have left messages and texts, and he hasn't responded to anything.
Victoria: Have you tried summer?
Nikki: She doesn't know anything, either. Victoria, I really need to speak to your father, and he's disappeared!

Devon: [ Sighs ]
[ Keys jingling ]
[ Door opens ]
Nate: Whew!
Devon: [ Sniffs ]
Nate: Rough night?
Devon: Just...had A... long, uh... long studio session.
Nate: Open bar included, huh?
Devon: Nate, I don't -- I don't want a lecture. I really don'T. Please.
Nate: Hey --
[ Keys clank ] I got you. No lecture, man.
Devon: [ Retches ]
Nate: Just a helping hand.
[ Lock clicks ]
[ Loud bang ]
Nate: Head's up. Guy with a hangover coming in.
Ana: Ooh! Devon. You look like you could use this.
Nate: No, he needs something stronger than that.
Devon: I just need scotch.
Nate: Scotch is the last thing you need, man. What you need is my world-famous hangover cure.
Devon: I'm fine.
Nate: Oh, this is what passes for fine in the music biz these days, huh?
Devon: Nate -- nate... please.
Nate: You know what's worse than a guy with a hangover, devon...
[ Devon groans ] ...Is a stupid guy with a hangover. Last chance. Do you want my help or not? Yeah? All right. I'm gonna need your help.
[ Clears throat ]
Devon: [ Sighs ]
Victoria: Yes, I need to speak with someone about the fire at newman ranch last night. Oh, I was hoping that detective rosales had phoned in. Well, there must be somebody there that can tell me something about it. Okay, fine. I'll call back.
[ Sighs ] So, detective rosales is investigating at the ranch. Still.
Nikki: I wonder what is going on out there?
Victoria: I wish I knew. But I'm gonna have to get the kids off to school soon.
Nikki: Why don't we drop them off and then go see for ourselves what he's doing out there?
Victoria: Mom, he said that we're not allowed back on the property until everything's been checked out.
Nikki: Yeah, but what? What is he checking out? That's what I want to know.
Victoria: I don't know. I-I'm sorry.
[ Doorbell rings ]
Nikki: Please, god, don't let it be any more bad news.
Victoria: Would you please go to the kitchen and get me a refill?
Nikki: Oh...
Victoria: I have a feeling it's gonna be a long day.
Nikki: A-all right, honey.
Victoria: Thank you, mom.
Nick: [ Sighs ] Just came from the ranch.
Victoria: You were allowed back on the property?
Nick: Police still have it cordoned off. But I did talk to the fire chief. The fire's out.
Victoria: [ Sighs ]
[ Footsteps approach ]
Nikki: The fire's out?
Victoria: Thank you.
Nikki: How much damage is there?
Nick: I'm sorry, mom, but the stables are a total loss.
Nikki: And the house?
Nick: Uh, no damage.
Nikki: Thank god.
Victoria: [ Sighs ] Can she go home?
Nick: They're still trying to figure out how the fire started. It could take a while.
Victoria: Oh, come on. It was obviously an accident. There was some faulty wiring, or somebody knocked over a space heater or something.
Nikki: [ Sighs ] I hope that's the case, because, with your father not here, I-i don't even want to think about the alternatives.
Nick: What alternatives? Is there something going on I don't know about? (Vo) they're all going in the
Kyle: Let me get this straight -- tessa did something so bad, you're not sure if you can stay with her, but you can't tell me what she did.
Mariah: Specifics don't matter.
Kyle: Good thing, 'cause I don't have any.
Mariah: Look, what matter is, when you're talking about relationships, I mean, the number-one thing is -- is trust. Right? I mean, everybody would agree on that.
Kyle: Can't speak for all mankind, but I'd say it's somewhere near the top.
Mariah: Okay. And when that trust is broken... you get hurt. I mean, literally feel like your heart is breaking in your chest hurt, and most people... they would walk away. At that point, they would be done. But not me. No, I keep coming back for more pain and more disappointment. And when tessa lied the first time, she was so sorry. She was so upset, and she gave as many excuses as I've had shots of tequila [Chuckles] In my life in a performance that would have put meryl streep to shame, and she said it was over. She said it was done, and that it was never gonna happen again, and then...
Kyle: Oop, let me guess. Another lie.
Mariah: And most people would be absolutely done at that point. They would walk out the door and never look back. But something made me stay.
Kyle: "Something"?
Mariah: Stupidity?
Kyle: I think the word you're looking for is love.
[ Elevator bell dings ]
Ted: May I help you?
Fen: Hey. Uh... I'm lauren fenmore's son, fen.
Ted: Oh, hey. Nice to meet you. I've heard a lot about you. I'm ted. Exec assistant. A fancy title. Means I do pretty much whatever anyone tells me to.
Fen: Oh. That sucks.
[ Chuckles ] Um... is -- is my mom here?
Ted: Oh, she's at an all-day conference out of the office. Um, I'd offer to give her a message, but...
Fen: Oh, no.
Ted: You know, you could do it yourself.
Fen: No, no. It's not a big deal. I just --
Ted: Lola!
Lola: Hi.
Ted: Um... where you been?
Lola: Busy.
Ted: Yeah. Life of an entrepreneur. What do you got for me?
Lola: New menus for my food truck.
Ted: Oh, check you out.
Fen: Hi.
Ted: Uh, lola, this is, uh -- wait. Your name's not fenmore fenmore, is it?
Fen: No, it's, uh, baldwin.
Ted: Oh. Phew! Uh, fen baldwin, lola rosales.
Lola: Hi. Nice to meet you.
Fen: Same. So, you, uh -- you own a food truck?
Lola: Yeah, with new-and-improved menus. Trying to get the word out.
Fen: Can I, uh -- can I see one?
Lola: Yeah, go for it. Give them to your friends.
Fen: So, um... yeah, tell me about the, uh, house special. I mean, I, uh -- I bet it's -- I bet it's hot.
Lola: [ Chuckles ] Probably too hot for you. But I'm sure you can find something on the menu that's more suitable. Bye, ted.
Ted: [ Exhales loudly ] Nice try, dude.
Fen: Yeah. Strike one.
Ted: Ugh. I hate sports metaphors. Anyway, you're out. Lola has a boyfriend.
Fen: Oh. Who's the lucky guy? You know, today? Tomorrow, though, that's a new game.
Victoria: Mom, why don't you go upstairs and lie down?
Nikki: I need to find out what is going on at the ranch, and to find out why victor has just gone completely off the grid!
Nick: Well, vick and I can look into both of those things for you.
Nikki: I can understand him avoiding the police, but why isn't he answering my calls?
Nick: Well, there's no point in stressing about it. You need some rest.
Nikki: [ Sighs ]
Victoria: And nick's right. You have to take care of yourself, or you're gonna end up in the hospital.
Nikki: [ Sighs ] No, I won'T.
Nick: Mom, go get some sleep.
Nikki: All right. But if you hear anything, you come get me.
Nick: Of course. We will let you know.
Victoria: I'm worried about her.
Nick: Too bad dad isn'T.
Victoria: Oh, come on. That's not fair. He doesn't know what's going on here.
Nick: Well, would it kill him to call and check on his wife?
Victoria: You know how he is when he's working on a big deal. He shuts out the rest of the world. His ability to focus is what has made him so successful.
Nick: Oh, what a true family man.
Victoria: Let's not turn this into a dad-bashing session. Our primary concern right now is mom.
Nick: You're right. And if dad's not gonna be there for her, then I will be. But I'm not letting that get in the way of my focus on my own work. I'm not giving dad that advantage.
Victoria: Oh, my gosh. You make it sound like he's off plotting some big moves against you and your company. When he could be lost or hurt or worse.
Nick: Yeah. I'll go with the first option.
Victoria: You're not even a little bit worried?
Nick: I've been waiting months for dad to go on the attack against dark horse. But he can bring it. I'm ready.
Victoria: Dad's not trying to wage war against you, nick.
Nick: Can you promise me that? I didn't think so.
Kyle: Your is decaf, 'cause you seem a little... you know. [ Sighs ]
Mariah: I should have gone cold turkey after the second time tessa lied to me. But, no, I -- I didn't walk away like a sane and normal person would.
Kyle: It's not too late.
Mariah: You're right. It's not. So, why don't I do it? Is it because I think, on some super-subconscious level, that there's something still between us?
Kyle: That's what I was --
Mariah: That there's something that I still want?
Kyle: Like lo--
Mariah: I mean, what other reason could I have for not walking away?
Kyle: I don't know.
Mariah: You know, I have a lot to think about, but you have been a giant help. Really. Thank you.
Kyle: I usually am when i can't get a word in.
Mariah: What do you mean?
Kyle: You realize that was you talking, right? All that stuff about trust and love came out of your mouth, not mine.
Fen: Hey, guys.
Mariah: Fen?
Fen: In the flesh.
Mariah: Wow. I'll say. You look...great!
Fen: Well, I've been, uh, working out a little, keeping clean. But we weren't exactly, you know, friends or anything. I mean, not like us, right, kyle?
Kyle: Us? You and me? Friends?
Fen: Yeah. I mean, you, me, and summer, we had some, uh -- we had some good times. Hey, is she still in town? You know, maybe we could, uh, get the old gang back together.
Kyle: You just missed her.
[ Sighs ] She's on the other side of the world, learning how to become a shark. Newman enterprises -- dubai office.
Mariah: Nobody knows when she's gonna be back.
Fen: That's too bad. But, you know, maybe it's for the best.
Kyle: Yeah. Getting rejected twice really stings.
[ Mariah chuckles ]
Fen: All right, come on. I'm not interested in summer, all right? She knows that. We figured everything out, in the end. We're just friends.
Mariah: Oh, that's great. Maybe she'll have one when she gets back.
Fen: Meanwhile, I wouldn't mind, uh, checking out the gc dating scene.
Mariah: Really? Wow. Okay. Uh, great. You know what, I will let all of the women in genoa city know that you're available,a and I'm sure your phone is gonna be blowing up any second now.
Nick: Sorry. I didn't mean to go in on dad. There's just a lot going on.
Victoria: That's okay. We're both worried about mom.
Nick: Yeah. And now I have to worry about summer, too. She moved halfway around the world to work with dad, who is now missing, which means summer's on her own.
Victoria: Yeah, but she's smart and she's strong. She can take care of herself.
Nick: I hope so. How are you and the kids doing? You know, after rey opened up the investigation into J.T.'S murder?
Victoria: Johnny and katie have no idea what's going on, but reed's having a bit of a tough time.
Nick: [ Sighs ] Well, I could talk to him if you think it'll help.
Victoria: No, don't worry about it. I'm sure you have your hands full dealing with faith and christian, and helping them get through all this turmoil that's going on in your life.
Nick: [ Sighs ] Are you about to give me some grief for going back and forth between phyllis and sharon?
Victoria: No, I didn't say a word.
Nick: Mm. Well, the kids are fine.
Victoria: "Fine"? Really?
Nick: Yes, really. Christian and phyllis have formed a great bond, and... you know, faith is getting there.
Victoria: Sounds like things are getting pretty serious between you and phyllis.
Nick: It's awesome. There's no complications. It's easy. It's just two people who like to be around each other.
Victoria: Mm-hmm. So, no plans for the future?
Nick: No. We're having too much fun right now to be worried about that.
Victoria: Right. That makes sense. I mean, you have done the whole commitment-marriage-children thing, so... you should just keep it simple.
Nick: Exactly.
Victoria: Now, I wasn't surprised that you turned to phyllis after you and sharon broke up. But I did think that phyllis would go back to billy. I mean, I know that she cheated on him, but those two have a way of thriving on that. You know, the drama of blowing up people's lives and then putting the pieces back together. I know, in my opinion, it's not very healthy, but i guess that's what attracts them to each other.
Nick: Yeah, I thought they'd work things out, too. But phyllis has assured me that that's not gonna happen. There's no going back.
Victoria: What about you and sharon? Any chance you two would work things out?
Nick: No. Sharon's made it very clear there is... no future for us.
Victoria: That's how sharon feels. What about you?
[ Ice scoop crashing ]
[ Knife pounding ]
Devon: Guys, can you keep it down, please? Please?
Nate: Uh, yeah. Sorry, no. Choosing the right ingredients, getting the measurements right, even the noise is part of the process.
[ Pounding resumes ]
Devon: Are you just messing with me or what?
Nate: No, no. I'm serious, man. The worse you feel, the better the remedy is. It's part mental, part chemical.
[ Devon groans ] You got to want to get rid of the hangover.
Devon: I do. I really do.
Nate: Here we go. Well, my hangover cure is 10/10, but...
Ana: [ Slams ice scoop ]
Nate: ...The best thing for a hangover is not to get one in the first place.
Ana: [ Loudly ] You might want to file that away for the future!
Devon: Okay, thank you.
Ana: I'm just trying to be helpful.
Nate: [ Slams jar ] We both are.
Devon: [ Sighs ] It would be super helpful if you guys could just be quiet and give me whatever concoction you're making.
Nate: I think he's about there.
[ Clears throat ] Oh, yeah.
Ana: Okay.
Devon: [ Sighs ]
Nate: Right there. You're up.
[ Blender whirs ]
[ Whirring intensifies ]
"The young and the restless" will continue.
Kyle: So, you got into law school, finished your first semester, then quit, just like that?
Fen: Yeah. I mean, I wasn't into being a lawyer.
Mariah: So, what are you into?
Fen: Uh, music.
Kyle: Who isn't? What are you gonna do for a living?
Fen: Uh, write, sing, record.
Mariah: Wow. So you want to pursue a career in music.
Fen: Uh, yeah. I mean, people actually do that, you know.
Mariah: Oh, I know. And I'm sure your parents are thrilled.
Fen: They want me to be happy. And music makes me happy.
Mariah: So, what led you to this path of musical bliss?
Fen: I met a girl at school. She played the guitar, asked me to sing with her. And, uh, we just... kind of clicked together.
Kyle: Clicking together. It's the best inspiration around.
Mariah: [ Laughs ]
Fen: All right. It wasn't just about the sex, although that was -- phew! That was pretty great.
Mariah: Okay.
Fen: But, no, we broke up --
Kyle: He got bored.
Fen: It was time to move on. You know, personally and professionally. That's when I decided to turn my hobby into a career.
Mariah: Okay, so, if you're really serious about this, why not go somewhere like L.A. Or new york or even nashville? I mean, that's where people go to get their music careers started.
Fen: This is where my family is. And it's where devon hamilton is. Lp is up and coming, and they're looking for new artists. I just need to get my demo in front of the man himself.
Kyle: Mm. And bam! Instant rockstar.
Fen: No. All right, I'm not saying it's easy. But...I'm good. All right? I'm -- I'm good enough to make it.
Kyle: Yeah, you've definitely got the ego for it.
Fen: Well, you got to have confidence in this biz.
Mariah: Wow. You are pumped.
Fen: Well... I mean, I could say the same& about you. I mean, you look completely different from the last time I saw you. You know, in person, that is. I saw you a few times on the "gc buzz." You're, uh... you're killing it, man. It's -- it's -- it's pretty kick-ass.
Mariah: Thank you.
Fen: Hey, um... the gc buzz is owned by devon hamilton, isn't it?
Kyle: Ahh. Smooth, dude.
Fen: I just --
Kyle: Making it look like you randomly bumped into us.
Mariah: Mm-hmm.
Fen: I was wondering if there was any way you could get my demo in front of devon.
Mariah: Okay. Okay, look. I will listen to it, and if it's any good, maybe I'll even have you on the show.
Fen: Yeah. Oh, well, I'm, uh -- I think I'm more of a late-night-tv kind of guy. You know, I feel like that's where my audience is.
Kyle: Actually, I think you might find most of them on a street corner downtown.
Mariah: [ Snorts ]
Fen: All right. I'll remember that when you're begging for free tickets to my sold-out concert.
Mariah: So, you said that you moved on personally and professionally. Did you come to genoa city with anybody?
Fen: Like a girlfriend? No. No. I mean, like I said, I want to check out the dating scene while I focus on my music. You know, that's -- that's how I like it no strings attached. Just, uh -- just a good time.
Mariah: Wow. You know, you should put that in a song, because I hear women love that. It really makes them feel special.
Fen: Well, it worked with a lady earlier from today.
Kyle: Mm. That's 'cause she doesn't know you.
Fen: Yeah, well, she'll be, uh, swiping right by the end of the week. Or maybe sooner.
Mariah: You know, there's confident, and then there's delusional.
Fen: Yeah? Well, see for yourself. She's here right now. Hey! Uh, lola. I, uh, want you to meet my friends. I've been telling them all about you. But, uh, words are not enough to describe you.
Lola: You're right. Sometimes words just aren't enough. You know, you have to show how you feel.
Nate: All right, here you go. Drink it. All of it. Come on.
Devon: What's in it?
Nate: You don't want to know.
Devon: I'm not gonna drink it unless you tell me what's in it.
Nate: Okay, fine. Raw eggs, jalapeņo peppers, fermented seaweed, cheese rind, yeast --
Devon: All right. That's fine. That's fine. Just give it to me. That's fine.
[ Sighs ]
[ Sighs ]
Nate: All right.
Devon: [ Retches ] That's not bad. Ahhh.
[ Breathing hard ] God. What is happening?
[ Groans ]
Nate: Yeah, that burning sensation in your mouth and in your stomach, that'll go away in a few minutes. But what you're doing to your body every night, that'll have a lasting impact. On you and your life. Okay?
Devon: [ Hisses ]
Nate: Well, my work here is done. He's all yours.
Devon: [ Sighs ]
[ Sighs ] I expected him to be a jerk. But not you. Mmph.
Ana: All I want is for you to get better.
Devon: [ Sniffs ] I think you're gonna get your wish, 'cause that tasted like crap, but I think it's working.
Ana: I'm not talking about your hangover. I meant this. I want to help you fix this.
Devon: [ Sighs ]
Victoria: Well, there must be something you can tell me. How long is that gonna take? All right. Fine. Fine. I'll call back then. You would think that somebody down at the gcpd would know something about what's going on at the ranch.
Nick: Why don't you call rey? Isn't he in charge of the investigation?
Victoria: I don't know. I figured he was busy doing whatever it is lead investigators do in these types of situations.
Nick: So you're not avoiding him?
Victoria: No. Why would I?
Nick: 'Cause of J.T.? I mean, rosales keeps bringing him up. First he's checking into his finances, now he's opened up an investigation into his murder. I'm assuming you just want him to drop the whole thing.
Victoria: More than you know.
Nikki: Oh, nicholas, I'm so glad you're still here.
Victoria: Mom, I thought you were resting.
Nikki: I couldn'T. So I tried calling your father again. Things are getting stranger by the minute.
Nick: Why? What happened?
Nikki: Now my e-mails are being bounced back to me, and just now, I tried calling him again, and I got a recording that said his number is out of service.
Nick: What?
Nikki: [Crying] I'm really worried. I'm worried that somehing terrible has happened to him. Harry's meeting clients...
Nick: What?
Victoria: I got the same message.
Nikki: Oh, my god. What's going on? What has happened to your father?
Kyle: I'll hand it to you, you've got good taste in women.
Fen: Yeah, well, lola's only with you because she doesn't know me yet.
Kyle: Mm.
Lola: Yeah, I-I do.
Mariah: Give it up, dude. Seriously.
Fen: No, it's not my style. I'll just sit back and wait for kyle to screw things up like he always does.
Kyle: Yeah, not this time.
Fen: Yeah. We'll see.
Lola: I'm gonna go say hi to rey.
Kyle: Sure.
Lola: Hey.
Rey: Hey, sis.
Lola: You look exhausted.
Rey: Yeah, well, work's been running me ragged.
Lola: Ha, ha. Out getting down and dirty, are ya?
Rey: There was a fire.
Lola: Since when do you work for the fire department?
Rey: When a fire's more than just a fire.
[ Cellphone rings ] Rosales. Okay. A-are you sure? All right, thanks.
Lola: Everything okay?
Rey: Uh, yeah. I may have just gotten the break that I needed. I'll see you.
Lola: Okay, good luck.
Tessa: Ooh! [ Shivers ] Hi.
Mariah: Hey.
Tessa: You were, uh, up and out early this morning.
Mariah: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I -- I had to get up early, and I didn't want to wake you.
Tessa: Well, I wouldn't have minded. I mean, I could have made you breakfast, or at least a cup of coffee.
Mariah: Uh, sorry. I just, you know...
Tessa: Yeah. Busy day. Right. Well, uh, do you have time for a cup now?
Mariah: Uh...
Tessa: A quick one?
Mariah: You know, I just am pretty late to work already, so I-I got to run.
Tessa: Okay. Uh, maybe tomorrow?
Mariah: Yeah, maybe.
Ana: Can I get you anything?
Devon: No. Just gonna go lay down.
Ana: Stay.
Devon: [ Groans ]
Ana: I'll get you an ice pack for your head.
Devon: [ Sighs ]
Ana: And we can talk.
Devon: I don't really want to talk. I don't want another lecture, please.
Ana: No lectures, I promise.
Devon: [ Sighs ] Okay. What do you want to talk about, then? The weather? Or, what, sports?
Ana: You.
Devon: I have nothing to say about that. I have nothing to talk about in regards to -- to hilary or to shauna or my lifestyle choices, ana, I really don'T.
Ana: Okay. Well, how about I talk and you listen?
Devon: [ Sighs ] As long as it's not a lecture.
Ana: Understood. I could never know what you're going through. I've never suffered that kind of loss. But I have suffered a different kind of loss. So I might have some idea of what you're feeling. I fell in love once, too. Not with a person. With singing. It sounds stupid, but I put my heart and soul into it. I had this passion for music that I wanted to share with the world. I used my voice to try to do that. I had some success. But in the end... I had to accept that the world wasn't interested in what I was offering. So I had to let go of my dream. Move on. I watched, helpless, as the thing I loved more than anything in the world slipped away. I had to mourn that loss. Not my career, or even singing. It was losing the passion that drove my life that hurt the most. Kind of like your passion for hilary. She was your reason for living. Now you're trying to find a new purpose. I can see you're struggling. Just like I am. When neil called me and asked me to come here, it was just what i needed. A new start. Something to put my energy into. Helping you was a way to help me. I'm grateful for the opportunity to do both. But I'd never force anything on you, devon. I just want you to know, I'm here for you.
Devon: And I really do appreciate that. But you...
Ana: It's okay. Say it.
Devon: You can't compare the two things. Love for a thing is just not the same as love for a person. You could always do your music again. I -- I -- I'm never gonna get my wife and my child back. I can never replace them. I can never just get over the fact that they're gone.
Ana: No. You can'T. I'd never even suggest you try. But you can learn how to cope.
Devon: You make that sound super easy.
Ana: It's the hardest thing you'll ever have to do. You have to try, devon. You owe it to hilary. And yourself.
Fen: [ Clears throat ] Listen, um... about what happened earlier --
Kyle: You trying to move in on my girlfriend?
Fen: Yeah. Um... look, I-I-I wouldn't have done that if I'd known you guys were together.
Kyle: Yeah. Never stopped you before.
Fen: Heh... you know what? I'm sure that your cooking is a lot better than your choice in guys, so I will see you at your food truck.
Lola: If you keep your eyes up here, I might serve you.
Fen: Well, at least I know she'll be keeping you in line.
Kyle: Mm.
Lola: I'm gonna grab something to go. Do you want anything?
Kyle: I'm good.
Lola: 'Kay.
Fen: So, uh... how serious is this thing with you and, uh, lola?
Kyle: You're really not getting it, are you?
Fen: She's out of your league, man.
Kyle: Yeah, save the act for your future groupies.
Fen: [ Scoffs ] What are you, uh -- what are you talking about?
Kyle: You haven't changed a bit, baldwin. You want to strut your stuff, act all pompous, have at it. You're not fooling me. You're still the same jealous jerk you've always been.
Fen: Yeah, well, you're still the same cocky --
Lola: Ready?
Kyle: Yeah. I'd say it's nice to see you, but I'd be lying. Let's go.
Devon: You know how you -- you hear things every day? Whether it be on the news or from your family or from work? And you -- [ Clears throat ] You hear it, and you take it in, and you process it, and you act on it. When I was in the hospital, and nate told me that hilary wasn't gonna make it, I heard the words coming out of his mouth, but... I just -- I-I didn't -- I couldn't take in what he was saying. It's like I didn't have a place for it to go, you know?
Ana: You were obviously in shock.
Devon: It's been months. It's been months, and I still haven't fully absorbed and accepted the fact that hilary is gone. And you know how people say that they feel like they're gonna see the person walk through the door any second? This happens for me every day. 'Cause every time I turn on "gc buzz" and she's not there, or every time I roll over in bed and she's not there, it's literally like she's dying again and again. And... I just don't know how to cope when I'm feeling like I'm losing her over and over, if that makes any sense.
Ana: There's lots of ways to deal with grief. Some better than others.
Devon: What would you suggest?
Ana: I know one thing. You can't do it alone. You need someone to help you, devon. A professional.
Devon: A professional? You want me to see a shrink?
Ana: It's worth a shot. If it doesn't work, try something else.
Devon: And, let me guess, you already have the person picked out, don't you?
Ana: Nate found him.
Devon: Mm.
Ana: He's the best. But he can't help you unless you go see him. Will you talk to him?
Devon: Yeah. Sure.
Ana: Yeah?
Devon: I will. Mm-hmm.
Ana: [ Giggles ]
Nick: Well, can you tell me who closed the account? Yes, I understand you have rules about privacy, but we're trying to get in touch with our father.
[ Doorbell rings ]
Victoria: I'll get it.
Nick: Yeah, I'll call you back.
Victoria: In here. Do you have any news for us?
Rey: Yeah, I just with forensics. There's no question that the fire was intentionally set.
Nikki: My god. It -- it was arson.
Victoria: So, now what?
Rey: Well, the ranch has been officially declared a crime scene.
Victoria: Who would do this? And why?
Rey: That's what I intend to find out. Right now, I have a question for all of you -- have you heard from victor?
Nick: We've been trying to get in touch with him, uh, just to tell him about the fire.
Rey: And?
Nick: No luck. Why do you want to talk to him?
Rey: Because victor owns the ranch. Part of my job is to speak with all interested parties.
Nick: Seems like you're casting a pretty wide net.
Rey: I'll keep you posted.
Nick: Do you get the feeling he knows more than he's saying?
Victoria: It's more than a feeling.
