Mariah: We can't have a life with a lie like this between us.

Tessa: Yes, we can!

Mariah: No, I can't!

Victoria: Nothing's really changed since I gave my initial statement, except that you're not looking for J.T. Anymore.

Rey: She asked about the watch, and then the dna. She knew there was no body to be found. We make a great team.

Sharon: That's part of the problem. We're too good together.

Rey: We agreed to separate.

Mia: Temporarily. But I know what I want. To be with you. Now, rey and I hit a little speed bump in our marriage, but we're gonna get that all taken care of tonight. Just to be clear -- rey is mine.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

[ Cookware clattering ]

Mia: Morning, sunshine.

Rey: [ Sighs ] What's cooking?

Mia: Egg-and-cheese sandwich with extra bacon. Your "hangover special."

Rey: It is --

Mia: Scientifically proven. I know. Sleep well?

Rey: Must have.

Mia: Mm. Yeah. Not surprised. But I was a little bit disappointed. If I had known you were gonna start drinking when i stepped out last night, I wouldn't have stepped out.

Rey: Where did you go?

Mia: Only downstairs. For coffee, remember? I would have been back sooner, but I was distracted by that -- ugh. What's her name? Cheryl? Cheri?

Rey: Her name -- her name is sharon. Sharon.

Mia: That's right. Sharon.

[ Blender whirs ]

Sharon: Did you get any sleep at all last night?

Mariah: Nope. I couldn'T.

Sharon: Do you want to talk about it?

Mariah: Aren't you supposed to be at work?

Sharon: Work can wait. The rest of the world can wait for a while.

Mariah: No, really, I-it's fine. You should just go. I'll be okay. Maybe. I'm not sure.

[ Knock on door ]

Mariah: I'm serious. Go, go. And if that's tessa, tell her to go away. And then you can leave.

Sharon: Kyle! Good morning. Come on in.

Kyle: Hi. Thanks.

Sharon: All right. Um, if you need anything, just call me. Bye.

Kyle: Bye.

Mariah: You know, you didn't have to come all this way. You could have just called back.

Kyle: Ah, I needed to get out of the office for a while. With the jaboutiques launching tonight, things have gotten a little hectic.

[ Sighs ]

Mariah: I can only imagine.

Kyle: Besides, you sounded like you needed a friend. I'm also here to offer you a refund on the relationship advice I gave you yesterday. Must have been the worst if you moved home already.

Mariah: You know, on the bright side, tessa and i probably set a record for the shortest possible cohabitation. So...there's that. Yay, us.

Kyle: What happened? Must have been major. Did she leave her socks on the floor? Drink straight from the milk carton? Or, ooh, you snore like a sailor?

Mariah: It's worse. Tessa has a glaring character flaw. She can't be honest with me. I'm an open book, and she's a puzzle. That's fine. It doesn't matter, 'cause it wouldn't have worked out, anyway.

Kyle: That's what I thought about lola when she was about to dump me after summer ruined our date. It's over. It wasn't gonna work out.

Mariah: And what happened?

Kyle: Lola let me know what she expected of me. And I stepped up. I'm no expert at this relationship thing, but I think we need to give people more than one chance.

Mariah: It's not that simple with us.

Kyle: Yeah. You're probably right. You should just give up. You've tried everything else, exhausted all other options, haven't you? So, just stay in your pjs, watch some horror movies, and give up on love. Perfect plan.

Michael: Just stay calm. This isn't an interrogation. It's just an interview.

Victoria: It's the second one. What else could he need to know?

Michael: Hmm. We'll find out when he gets here. Look, all you have to do is answer the questions. If I have an issue with something he's asking you, I'll stop you. If you have an issue, defer to me. Just keep your answers simple, and don't volunteer anything.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] I'll just stay calm. I can do that.

Michael: I tell my clients all the time, if you get nervous talking to police, take a lawyer. Even when your hands are as squeaky-clean as yours are.

Victoria: I should have brought you with me the first time.

Michael: Yes, you should have. But I'm here now. We'll get through this, and you'll be back at work before you know it.

Rey: Sorry.

Mia: For taking such a short shower? You should be. I wanted to join you.

Rey: I got people waiting for me at work.

Mia: Mm. Don't forget... you've got people waiting for you at home.

[ Moans ]

Rey: Mia.

Rey: [ Sighs ]

Kyle: So we had to scale things back a little after ashley left with her patents. You should still be proud.

Billy: [ Sighs ] Tell me the truth. Were you against this concept from the start? Or did you just say that to kiss up to the dearly departed ashley?

Kyle: At the time, I thought it was an impulsive move that needed more study analysis. But things have changed at jabot. It's been turned upside down. Now's the time for all good men and women to step up and aid their company.

Billy: Yeah. And all that attention and glory and credit's gonna go to phyllis, and the abbotts are gonna look like has-beens.

Kyle: Patience. Remember our pact. First chance we get, she's gone. Flash in the pan.

Devon: What brings you here?

Mariah: Tessa. I think we might be breaking up.

Devon: Why? What happened to you guys?

Mariah: We moved in together. Maybe it was too soon. Maybe we didn't know enough about each other. But nothing is the way that i imagined it. And...we really cared about each other.

> Devon: Until, what, you found out something you didn't know before?

I went into this relationship with my eyes wide open. And tessa takes the easy way out, not to mention she has a tenuous relationship with the truth.

Devon: Yeah. Well, I mean, you and I have seen that firsthand.

Mariah: She had a rotten childhood. But underneath that, she is a good person. I know that. Well, I think I know that.

Devon: So, you came to me 'cause you thought that I would understand after everything i went through with hilary?

Mariah: I loved hilary, but --

Devon: No, I know. She did some messed-up things. But she was a complicated person, you know?

Mariah: No, no, e-exactly. But you two had... the strongest and truest love I-I've ever seen in my life.

Devon: Yeah, it was through thick and thin.

Mariah: So how do you know when to move on and forgive or to pack up and go?

Sharon: What are you two doing here?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] Rey has more questions about J.T.

Michael: And he's already 20 minutes late. It's a power play. I see it all the time.

Victoria: Well, I would walk out of here right now, but I want this over with.

Michael: Well, if he doesn't show in the next five minutes, we're walking out of here. My day's already fully booked. There's the jabot gala I promised to take lauren to. Ugh! Everything's gonna get backed up.

Rey: Sorry. Something came up. A situation at home.

Michael: Where do you want us?

Rey: Everything's set up. Over there, please.

[ Sighs ]

Abby: [ Sighs ]

Mia: You beautiful heartbreaker.

Abby: I beg your pardon?

Mia: Your -- your lipstick. You beautiful heartbreaker.

Abby: Oh. Yeah, right. How did you, um...?

Mia: I'm in the industry. Hair and makeup stylist.

Abby: Well, you've got a great eye.

Mia: Spread the word. I'm trying to build my client list. I'm new in town. How's it going?

Mia: So far, so good. Yeah. I've already made up the new C.E.O. Of jabot. She's so funny. So down-to-earth. And that skin!

Abby: Phyllis.

Mia: You know her?

Abby: I'm in the industry, too.

Mia: Seriously?

Tessa: Abby, I'm sorry for the wait.

Abby: Oh, no problem.

Mia: Abby? Not as in abby newman? "Naked heiress" abby newman?

Abby: [ Sighs ] In the flesh.

Mia: Oh, my goodness! I can't believe this. You're amazing! I follow you.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Mia: I thought this was gonna be a sleepy little town. Yesterday, jabot, today, naked heiress.

Abby: Well, I'd like to think I've grown up a lot since then.

[ Chuckles ]

Mia: Oh, but that campaign -- genius.

Abby: [ Laughs ] It got people's attention, right?

Mia: You in your birthday suit on horse? Come on. I always said, if you've got it, flaunt it, girl.

[ Both chuckle ] Hey, can you take a selfie with you and me?

Abby: Um... actually, I --

Mia: Oh, come on. My friends would never believe that I'm with you. The naked heiress?

Abby: Uh... okay, yeah. I don't know if I'm ready for my close-up, really.

Mia: [ Scoffs ] Those eyes, your hair, your skin? You're flawless, babe. Come on. Ahh!

[ Both giggle ] A million dollars. Oh, my god. Naked heiress. You made my day.

Abby: Oh, well, my pleasure.

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Mia: Oh! That's me. Uh, s-sorry. I'm signed up with a company that sends stylists to their home, work, or photo shoots.

Abby: Oh, well, that's handy.

Mia: Yeah. Um... let me check in. Um, I'll be right back. I want to pick your brain.

Abby: Sure.

[ Both chuckle ]

Arturo: Phew!

Abby: Hi.

Arturo: Hey. You been waiting long.

Abby: Mm. Mwah! Good morning to you, too. No, I was actually just talking to a fan of the naked heiress.

Arturo: Yeah?

Abby: Mm-hmm. Yeah. She was really sweet and pretty. I like her already.

Arturo: Hmm. What's her name?

Abby: Um, she gave me her card. Um... oh! Wait. There she is. She just moved to genoa city. I'm so sorry. I didn't catch your name.

Mia: Mia. Rosales.

Abby: Rosales? Really? So I'm guessing you two are already acquainted.

Mia: Tell your friend how we know each other.

Arturo: She's rey's wife.

Mia: Arturo's sister-in-law.

Abby: I have heard so much about you. I didn't know you were in town. Welcome to genoa city. This deserves a hug. Ah!

Mariah: I shouldn't have brought up hilary. That wasn't sensitive.

Devon: No, no. Don't worry about that. Everybody thinks that if they mention her name, I'm gonna break down. But I like talking about her. I think she would have good advice for you, though. I don't know about me. Heh.

Mariah: What would you do in my situation?

Devon: A year ago, I'd probably tell you to move on. Pack up and just count your losses.

Mariah: That's what everybody told you to do with hilary.

Devon: Yeah. And then we'd break up and get back together. And no one could understand why we couldn't stay apart. Especially lily. But to be honest, I can't even logically explain us. We were just -- we belonged together. She was mine, and I was hers. And when I finally accepted that, when I finally fully accepted her, she stopped trying to hide herself from me, and who she really was, and she stopped being afraid of me leaving her. But... [ Sighs ] You know, I think that -- I think people deal with life by using the tools that we inherit from our families. We reach for those tools when our backs are up against the wall. And, you know, we usually go for what's familiar and easy. And some kids, you know, they get different things. Some kids get anger, you know, and hate and lies. And some people get love and understanding. Or secrets and fear.

Mariah: Like tessa. Bad tools.

Devon: Exactly. And... you know, I think the best thing for you would probably be to just give her some space. But in the meantime, you try and fill that void with your own love and understanding.

Mariah: That's what you did with hilary.

Devon: If you dig deep enough, mariah, you'll find that there's bad in the best of us, and there's good in the worst of us.

Michael: [ Chuckles ]

Devon: It's true. There's nothing about love that's cut-and-dry. When I think about how much time I wasted expecting hilary to be something different...

Mariah: You made her so happy, devon.

Devon: If I could give you any advice, it would be to not waste any time. And to love tessa with a full, open heart, and find the bright spots in all of her flaws, and don't try to change her. Don't try to change the things that made you fall in love with her in the first place, 'cause i think a lot of people make that mistake. Let her know that you're there for her. You're not going anywhere. You're not judging her. And don't live in fear. Don't try to create reasons to back away or to push her away. You know? Just love her for who she is. If I didn't learn that lesson, I would have missed out on one of the most beautiful times of my life. And I think that's what people should really be afraid of.

Mia: Wait for it.

[ Cellphone chimes ] My contact info. Call me any time you need a stylist. Or just someone to chat over cocktails.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Arturo: She actually has a team on call 24/7.

Abby: Well, in case someone's out of town or busy, it's always good to have a backup plan.

Mia: Once you see the photo shoot from jabot, I'll be the top of your list.

Abby: It sounds like your schedule might already be full before you even get started.

Mia: For you, abby, I'll always make room.

[ Abby laughs ]

Arturo: You've been in town, what, a couple days? You really shouldn't be making plans. You might not even end up staying.

Mia: Why wouldn't I?

Arturo: Rey's case could wrap up any day now. He's gonna go back to florida and take you with him.

Mia: And in the meantime, you expect me to sit alone in my apartment with nothing to do, twiddling my thumbs? No, I'd like to keep busy.

Arturo: Always up to something.

Mia: Mm. Well, I don't know what's going on with rey's case, but it doesn't seem like it's winding down.

Abby: You might be right. In the last couple days, it's gone from a missing-persons investigation to a murder case.

Mia: See, arturo? I'm gonna be around for a long, long time.

[ Giggles ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Sharon: Mariah? Is everything all right?

Mariah: Yeah. I need to talk to tessa.

Sharon: Okay.

Mariah: Do you think that you could get somebody to cover her shift?

Sharon: Yeah. No problem. Let me know how that goes.

Mariah: Thanks. I will.

Michael: This is an egregious waste of ms. Newman's time and my patience. So if you can't conjure up a reason for this interview or a line of questioning that she hasn't already gone over again and again, we're gonna walk out that door.

Rey: I'm getting to that. You said that you heard we fund J.T.'S watch in chancellor park.

Victoria: That's right.

Rey: Where exactly did you hear that?

Victoria: I spoke with mac after she came in to identify the watch.

Rey: I never told mac where we found it.

Victoria: My sister abby was told by your brother. If you don't believe me, you can ask them.

Rey: No, there's no need. Okay. So, we solved the mystery of how you learned about the watch. But how exactly did you know that the police never found J.T.'S body?

Victoria: I didn't know. How could I?

Rey: That's what I've been wondering.

Victoria: I remember asking you how you knew that J.T. Was dead. If you found the body.

Rey: Actually, you asked if we found J.T.'S dna.

Victoria: Well, yes. Of course. That's what I meant. I was wondering if you found his remains and -- and if you identified them as his.

Rey: Mm-hmm. I quote, "was it his dna? Couldn't that just have come from the watch?"

Victoria: I knew that you wouldn't be able to find his remains where you found the watch, of course. I mean, your brother and his crew dug all around there. Isn't that right? I mean, that's -- that's what my mother said.

Michael: It's clear to me she's answered this question multiple times.

Victoria: I don't understand what you're asking me.

Michael: So if there's nothing further, detective...

Rey: We're wrapped up here. For now. I will be in touch. And, please, if you're planning on leaving town, let us know.

Michael: Is there anything I should know?

Victoria: No --

Michael: I can clear my schedule. We can go to my office.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] There's nothing you should know. I just get nervous when people question me like that, as if I've done something wrong.

Michael: And you've done nothing wrong?

Victoria: Nothing. I swear.

Mia: So tell me, how does a naked heiress achieve that perfect work-life/nightlife balance?

Abby: [ Chuckles ] Easy. There is no nightlife here, not like in miami.

Mia: You've been?

Abby: Yes, early spring. Arturo and I were just there for the weekend, but it was unforgettable.

Mia: Early spring. Then you guys have been together for a while, then, huh?

Abby: Well, we weren't officially a couple, just, uh, friends with potential.

[ Arturo chuckles ] But that didn't stop his aunts from asking when we were getting married.

[ Laughs ]

Mia: They did the same thing when they met me. Ahh. Introducing her to the family, arturo. That didn't take long.

Arturo: They loved her. Everybody does.

[ Abby laughs ]

Mia: Mmm. Makes you wonder if they say that to every girl their nephews bring home. They're bound to be right eventually.

Abby: Well, it -- it wasn't home. Uh, we went to the best restaurant.

Mia: On 8th street?

Abby: Yeah, how'd you know?

Mia: It's his favorite. Mine, too. I was there all the time. I'm surprised I never ran into you.

Arturo: You were out of town. I checked.

Abby: We had the best time. The beaches, the nightlife, dancing all night.

Mia: You know, we should go out, the four of us.

Abby: I would love that.

Mia: How about tonight?

Abby: Ugh. I wish I could. But I am on jabot's board of directors, and tonight is the big jaboutiques launch.

Mia: I heard. Sounds exciting.

Abby: You know what, I have a terrific idea. Why don't you and rey come with us? The more, the merrier.

[ Arturo scoffs ]

Tessa: You -- you left your blanket here. I'm -- I'm glad you came back. Unless you came to say goodbye.

Mariah: I came here to tell you I love you.

Tessa: I love you, too.

Mariah: No, please -- please, just let me finish. I need to get through this, because I don't want it to come out wrong. I understand why you would not want to tell me something that you think might make me judge you. You haven't had an easy life, and everybody makes mistakes.

Tessa: But the money.

Mariah: Well, you must have done something that you're not proud of to get that money.

Tessa: At all.

Mariah: But, tessa, we have been through so much. And I know -- I know that we can get through this. But you need to tell me the truth.

Tessa: I want to, but I --

Mariah: Then do it. Please.

Tessa: Someone did something that they regret, and they paid me to stay quiet. But I can't tell you or anyone, ever.

Mariah: Wait, that's -- that's hush money?

Billy: [ Sighs ] Hey. We got an emergency.

Kyle: Mm. I've already put out enough fires for today.

Billy: Well, suit up for another one. Justine, the chef that phyllis wants to cater tonight --

Kyle: She's amazing. Flew her in from new york.

Billy: Yeah, good for her. But she can't do it. She said she's out.

Kyle: Why not? What happened?

Billy: I have no idea. Maybe she got a better offer. But she's done.

Kyle: We'll find someone else.

Billy: You're gonna find somebody who's good enough and crazy enough to step in at the eleventh hour, kyle?

Kyle: Don't sweat it. I got this.

Tessa: You know, I'm tired of pretending that I'm a better person so that you won't be disappointed.

Mariah: I don't want you to pretend. I want you to show me the real you.

Tessa: Okay, well, what if the real me is a grifter who came to genoa city because there are so many rich people with so much money that they don't know what to do with it, and I just wanted a piece of the action?

Mariah: Did you?

Tessa: I never... meant to hurt anyone. I just thought, if I could get in with the right people, I could get a -- a piece of it.

Mariah: Is that why you were with noah?

Tessa: He was... he was so sweet. It wasn't hard to pretend that I was in love with him.

Mariah: [ Sighs ] It was just part of a scheme.

Tessa: Marry a newman, and then we would drift apart. I'd get half of everything, and then we'd go our separate ways.

Mariah: What about me?

Tessa: Well, you -- you -- you screwed it all up. Falling in love with you was never part of the plan, mariah. I love you. And I'm trying every day to be a better person. The kind of person that you deserve. I never dreamed that I could be happy living in a shoe box, working two to three jobs at a time, but I am because of you.

Mariah: So you're keeping someone's secret for money.

Tessa: Well, I didn't go looking for that.

Mariah: What, it just fell into your lap?

Tessa: Hey, I needed to keep my sister safe. To keep you safe.

Mariah: It's just so much money, tessa.

Tessa: And the person who gave it to me doesn't even miss it. It's drop in the bucket for them.

Mariah: "Them." You keep saying "them." There's only so many people that it could be. You want me to go down a list of genoa city's who's who? You want to be a better person for me? Well, you need to start right now. Tell me the truth. Who?

Tessa: It was nikki. Nikki newman is the one who gave me the money. And I can't tell you anything else. For both of our sakes.

Victoria: When I asked rey what evidence he had that J.T. Was dead, I never asked if he found the body.

Sharon: Oh, no.

Victoria: A normal person would have asked that. A normal person who didn't know that the body was moved.

Sharon: But they let you go.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] With a warning not to leave town.

[ Footsteps ]

Sharon: [ Sighs ] Call me if anything comes up.

Victoria: Yeah, of course.

Mia: You left the police station early today. Smarter than you look.

Sharon: There's always tomorrow.

Mia: [ Scoffs ]

Arturo: Stop with your games, mia.

Mia: I don't know what you're talking about.

Arturo: The party tonight.

Mia: It's gonna be a blast. Double dating. Me and rey. You and abby.

Arturo: If you're smart...

Mia: We'll have so much to talk about.

Arturo: ...You'll come up with an excuse and cancel.

Mia: It almost sounds like you don't want me there. Afraid I might drink too many cocktails and have a little heart-to-heart with my new bestie?

Arturo: Why don't you just focus on your marriage? Or did you finally realize that "do not resuscitate" sign rey put on it? Go back to miami. There is nothing here for you. We've all moved on. Without you.

Kyle: Lunch already? I'll take those.

Lola: Wait, why?

Kyle: Because you have bigger fish to fry. Or shrimp to marinate. And... you don't have much time.

Lola: The party is hours away.

Kyle: Not anymore. The fancy-schmancy chef phyllis hired had to bail, and I recommended a new up-and-coming caterer.

Lola: Me?

Kyle: You.

Lola: No, I can'T. You're kidding, right?

Kyle: You can. And you will. And you will be incredible.

Lola: [ Gasps ] But I don't even have a menu.

Kyle: It's finger foods and drinks. I checked off some ideas on your delivery and truck menus. What if you made mini empanadas?

Lola: I could do that.

Kyle: The way you marinate your shrimp, by tomorrow, you'll be the talk of the town.

Lola: Yeah, and I could do, um, my yucca croquettes, and

croquetas de jamóN.

Kyle: With that mojo sauce?

Lola: Oh, my god. It'll slay.

Kyle: Drinks?

Lola: Uh... pff... I could do that cranberry mojito.

Kyle: You'll have the world at your feet.

Lola: Oh, my god. I can do this. I -- but -- what about the servers?

Kyle: [ Clicks tongue ]

[ Cellphone chimes ] That's the number for our temp agency we use. Already told them you'd call.

Lola: And the ingredients?

[ Cellphone chimes ]

Kyle: The number for the best gourmet grocer in town. You want it, they will find it for you and deliver it to your door. Don't worry about price. Bill everything to jabot. Now, go. You don't have much time.

Lola: But what about tonight? I was really excited for our date.

Kyle: We have forever to go on dates. Tonight's the night your dreams come true.

Lola: Thank you for believing in me.

Kyle: Mm-hmm.

[ Chuckles ]

Tessa: Nikki is not drinking again. I mean, at least as far as I know.

Mariah: But she's doing something that she doesn't want anybody to know about.

Tessa: She did something. Past tense. And it's nobody's business.

Mariah: But you've made it your business, tessa. You've made it a quarter-of-a-million-dollar business.

Tessa: I used that money to keep my sister healthy and alive, and I will not apologize for that. Crystal is safe. And so is nikki, as long as the secret does not get out.

Mariah: Tell me the secret.

Tessa: Can't you just trust me? Isn't it enough that everything worked out for the best?

Mariah: Well, is what nikki did... illegal, or is it just immoral?

Tessa: Both, maybe.

Mariah: Is she having an affair?

Tessa: Ignorance is bliss. You do not want to know. Knowing will change everything for everyone.

Mariah: Well, are you in danger because you know this secret?

Tessa: No.

Mariah: What if victor finds out that you have his wife's money?

Tessa: No, he can'T. And he won'T. Because nikki doesn't know that I'm the one who asked for the money.

Mariah: Wait a second. I thought nikki paid you to keep quiet. That's hush money. What you're talking about is blackmail. So you're -- you're blackmailing her. Tessa, what else are you not telling me?

Billy: Hey. I was hoping you'd be here.

Sharon: Time for another meeting of the wounded hearts society?

Billy: Well, potentially. Um... I was maybe thinking of a field trip. I have an extra ticket to a movie-binge festival at the abbott estate, and I was hoping you'd be my guest.

Sharon: I was afraid you were gonna invite me to this jabot party everybody's going to.

Billy: The last thing I want to do is watch the red menace soaking up the limelight on a night that should have been mine. So what do you say?

Sharon: Everyone's gonna wonder where you are.

Billy: Well, let them. Honestly, I can think of a million other things to do instead of watching phyllis take credit for all the work that I did.

Sharon: That's so unfair.

Billy: It is. Honestly, when I was C.E.O., I thought, "when this thing actually takes off, this is gonna be the moment everybody realizes that I'm really good at my job." You know, a chip off the old abbott block. Jaboutiques was the one thing I could be proud of of my tenure there.

Sharon: It was a stroke of genius.

Sharon: If you think she has anything to do with J.T.'S death, you are so wrong.

Rey: You seem pretty sure.

Sharon: Just instincts.

Rey: Well, at this point, it would be simpler to ask you who did do it since you think your intuition is foolproof. Or maybe you're riding on something more than just a hunch.

Sharon: I've known her for years. She simply isn't capable of murder.

Rey: Not even in self-defense?

Sharon: Is that your theory?

Mia: There's my man! Hi, amor.

Rey: I'm in the middle of something important.

Mia: Ah, that can wait, okay? I have a surprise for you. Hmm?
