Episode #11464 ~ Jack's loyalty is tested, while Cane visits Lily.

Provided By Suzanne

Previously on "the young and the restless"

Lily: I just miss you guys so much. And it's nice seeing you, but it's not the same.

Nikki: I have told no one about J.T.

Victoria: Well, I haven't told anyone, either.

Sharon: What are you thinking, bringing this in here? Are you out of your mind?

Phyllis: It's called "going to the source."

Sharon: It's called "idiotic" if you think I sent this.

Billy: Type a consulting -- you heard of 'em?

Ashley: You slashed my r&d budget, remember? So I was forced to farm out research to an outside firm.

Andrew: I've recently discovered some secret information that could be damaging to both her and jabot.

Jack: Kyle. Give me a second.

Kyle: Anything to put off the inevitable humiliation of another day at jabot.

Jack: Do me a favor and dial down the frustration a little bit. No, I wasn't made C.E.O., And, yes, ashley refused to consider you for C.O.O. But I'm asking you to refrain from making it tough for her. Jabot needs continuity right now, consistency.

Kyle: And that means ashley? No! Not a chance. There is something going on with her and that guy andrew. I can't just ignore what he told me.

Jack: It sounds like a venting of a disgruntled employee.

Kyle: Or a righteous whistle-blower. Dad, ashley is a schemer. She has this slick hypercontrol facade, but she's more than capable of playing dirty or paying other people to play dirty for her.

Jack: Did this guy actually say to you something?

Ashley: What are the two of you speaking about so intently?

Tessa: Did you watch "gc buzz" yesterday? Mariah is really finding her voice. She makes the audience feel supersmart and that they're in on the joke. I mean, that's -- that's a gift.

Sharon: You're very kind, tessa.

Tessa: No, no. I mean it. She's -- she's really good.

Sharon: That's not what i meant. You're very sweet to try to take my mind away from that disaster of a wedding.

Tessa: You're such a good person, sharon -- one of the most generous I've ever met. You've been that way with me, even though I've given you a million reasons not to be. I just -- I wish I could find a way to help you now.

Sharon: You already have. I've never seen mariah happier, and you're starting to get the hang of that espresso machine.

Tessa: It hates me.

Sharon: It's temperamental. You're doing beautifully with it. And I did have one favor to ask.

Tessa: Name it.

Sharon: Would you cover me when phyllis gets here?

Tessa: Is she on her way over here now? I-I'll take care of her. In fact, I can make sure that she never comes back here again.

Sharon: Well, I appreciate you wanting to protect me, but I've been dealing with phyllis for more years than I care to think about, sadly, under circumstances that were very much like these.

Tessa: Well, just because you were there in the past doesn't mean you have to be there again.

Sharon: Phyllis and I have commitments. We just have to put up with each other for a little while longer.

Tessa: Hey, I promised mariah I'd take care of you, so if you need an assist...

Sharon: You'll be the first to know. Patio, please.

Phyllis: Can we not do this face to face? I know that I am a she-devil and a soulless man-stealer, but i did not steal nick, nor do i want him, so --

Sharon: Stop talking. "I know what you did, and I'm going to make you pay."

Phyllis: Oh, my god. You got one, too?

Victoria: [ Sighs ] After everything we've been through with nick pretending to be J.T., I'm just really sick and tired of having my guard up. Maybe that's it. Maybe it's somebody who's upset with nick.

Nikki: Or maybe it's someone trying to find out what we know, someone who actually has no real information at all.

Victoria: Who are we kidding?

[ Door opens ]

Cane: Hey. Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Cane: Missed this.

Lily: Same here. How are the kids?

Cane: Uh...they're great. They're great. They send their love. Sam, too -- not in so many words.

Lily: Well, give them hugs for me.

Cane: Yeah, I will. Mattie and charlie wish they could be here every day, and they would come if they could, but they know that you'd rather, you know, they not miss school. Besides, mattie's kind of, uh -- you know, doesn't want to push her luck after the whole "free lily ashby" incident. Um, I'm recording our favorite tv shows. I promise you I'm not gonna binge-watch any, and, uh, I'm looking for some restaurants and some places I can take you when you get out of here and I can pamper you. Uh...what is it?

Lily: What do you mean?

Cane: Well, I feel like we haven't seen each other in a while, and -- I don't know -- maybe I'm reading too much into this, but you don't seem too happy to see me.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Cane: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have said anything. I'm sorry.

Lily: It's just the kids aren't here, so I didn't think i had to act upbeat and cheerful, like this is some sort of extreme adventure. I thought for once, I wouldn't have to put on a show.

Kyle: Dad wanted to have a quick chat about dina before i head to the office. When you walked in, we were wrapping it up.

Jack: Yeah. Mother may not be aware of everything that's going on in this house, but I do think she's sensitive to disruption. With billy off at rehab and all the changes at jabot, I think the mood of the house is going to affect her.

Ashley: So, you said you were wrapping it up. Did you reach any conclusions?

Kyle: Dad was hoping I would spend a little extra time with her, whether it be watching a movie or going for a walk around the grounds. He reminded me john abbott would want us looking out for each other at work and home.

Ashley: Well, I couldn't agree more. I'll see you at the office, kyle. Bye, jack.

Jack: Bye.

Kyle: Right behind you. She is smooth.

Jack: You have no proof that ashley has crossed any lines.

Kyle: Proof? No. 'Cause if I did, I'd have already called a board meeting.

Jack: But since you have none, tread lightly. Yes, I would like to have been C.E.O., But that is not how things played out. Jabot has taken too many hits lately. Help ashley succeed, for all our sakes.

Phyllis: Okay. So, can we maybe put these away, please?

Sharon: I'd be happy to, as long as you're willing to accept that I did not send you that note.

Phyllis: Fine. Whatever.

Sharon: And you realize that this is not about nicholas.

Phyllis: Wow.

Sharon: What?

Phyllis: If that's what you take away from this, then i misjudged you.

Sharon: Well, I'm sorry if i couldn't completely ignore your accusations since you said it directly to my face.

Phyllis: Look, I'm sorry. Please, please forgive me. Look, we need to focus, all right? Whoever sent these to us is obviously is enjoying it. I got mine first, then yours, but no word from nikki or victoria. Maybe it just is the two of us.

Sharon: Somebody out there wants us to be terrified, and it's working.

Phyllis: No, it's not -- not on me, at least.

Sharon: Someone knows, phyllis. Now what?

Cane: I know that this is not an adventure for you, and I know what you are going through.

Lily: No, you know in theory. You don't know the day in and the day out. When I first got here, I was crying myself to sleep every night, and I was trying to be quiet, but I wasn't quiet enough, and I-I drew attention.

Cane: What do you mean, you drew attention? Are you okay?

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Cane: Do you need me to call someone?

Lily: Who are you gonna call? What are you gonna say -- "the inmates are being mean to my wife"?

Cane: I don't know, but there's got to be something i can do.

Lily: There's nothing that you can do or say. This is my world now. And to deal with that and then come here and try and put on this fake smile, I-I can'T. I-I am tired enough as it is.

Cane: I didn't ask you to come here and pretend for me.

Lily: [ Sighs ]

Cane: [ Inhales deeply ] Sam's wandering around. He's, uh, pulling himself up on the furniture. And, uh, charlie and mattie -- well, you know, senior year's going okay for them, and, uh, mattie's, you know, gone full-on activist for you. She's fighting for you.

Lily: She should stop. I mean, what is she fighting against? I pled guilty. I turned myself in. I'm serving my sentence. There are women in here who got more time than me and aren't responsible for someone's death. Mattie should focus her energy on other reasons, other people. There are women who didn't have the kind of money to afford a lawyer like michael baldwin.

Cane: Listen, I do care about them -- I do -- but my focus right now is you -- getting you through this and getting you home. Do you understand that?

Lily: What, because it's too hard to think about?

Cane: Yes, 'cause it's too hard to think about.

Lily: Well, we don't have a choice. This is my life now, and I have accepted that, and you should, too.

Kyle: We're ready with all the black friday point-of-purchase gift bags, and ads have been approved for all the major magazines.

Ashley: Very interesting.

Kyle: The schedule? I thought that's how ad campaigns did it every year.

Ashley: Yeah. No, it's just seeing your performance as the model employee after all the ranting and raving you did when I didn't make you C.O.O.

Kyle: It's pretty obvious I'm not a fan of being on the losing side. It's a kick to the ego. Now I suck it up and do my job as well as I can. And with billy getting help, the rest of us in the family have a responsibility to focus on jabot.

Ashley: Nice speech. I still don't trust you entirely.

Kyle: Understood.

Ashley: I guess I will give you the benefit of the doubt. So, when it comes to the boutiques, I think we should use them to promote subscription boxes. People come into the store, they try a product, and then they sign up for monthly deliveries.

Kyle: Or we could flip it -- do sample-size subscription boxes. Then they come into the boutiques for the full-size products.

Ashley: Run those numbers.

Kyle: I'm on it.

Ashley: Kyle... I'm watching you.

Tessa: Everything okay out here?

Phyllis: Yeah, peachy. Thank you. We're good.

Tessa: Uh, are you sure you don't need anything, sharon?

Phyllis: Privacy would be greatly appreciated.

Sharon: Oh, I would say you could get phyllis some manners.

Nikki: Oh, well, hello! I'm -- I'm so glad that we have time to talk about our charity thing. Good to see you, too, tessa.

Tessa: Oh, uh, you, too. The usual for you both?

Nikki: That would be great.

Victoria: I'll just take a black coffee this time. Thank you.

Tessa: Okay.

Victoria: [ Sighs ] We're glad you called.

Nikki: Yeah. We have something we need to discuss with you.

Sharon: We have something that we need to share.

Victoria: No, there's time for that. This has already waited a few days, at least for me.

Phyllis: That's fine, sharon. I really enjoy each other's company so, so much, and we just called to say hello.

Nikki: Good god, phyllis. Will you just read this?

Kyle: Oh, there you are. Ted was on his lunch break, so i was leaving a note with this file. I did some legwork on subscription tie-ins and brick-and-mortars. There are benefits to full-size products and to sample sizes. We need to run other figures on production costs and shipping before we know more.

Ashley: You really took it and ran with it, didn't you?

Kyle: We lost some ground during billy's tenure. Time to make up for it. And if I can impress you in the process, even better.

Victoria: I thought it was an isolated incident. Mom's came after mine.

Sharon: Mine came right after phyllis'.

Nikki: Hold on a second. So, you two have been discussing this and not even thought to call us?

Sharon: Phyllis accused me of sending it.

Nikki: Phyllis, what is wrong with you?

Phyllis: I didn't think it was about what it was about.

Victoria: Oh. A drawback of crossing too many lines -- too much to feel guilty about.

Phyllis: This is definitely the time to make it all about me.

Victoria: Well, you've made a habit of that all by yourself.

Phyllis: We were on a break.

Sharon: Oh, if I hear that meaningless phrase one more time...

Nikki: Please stop it. We have more important issues to handle right now. Now, there's only one thing that connects the four of us -- only one reason why we each got the same letter. Obviously, someone is on to us.

Victoria: Do you think rey had anything to do with us?

Sharon: Why do you ask me?

Phyllis: Because you work with the guy. Maybe you let something slip when you decided to move your new pal upstairs in the apartment?

Sharon: My pal? You're the one who asked me to find out what I could from him. Also, you're the one who was waving that letter around when the man walked right into the squad room and I had to cover for you, so you can watch it with your accusations.

Nikki: Are you kidding me? You took that letter into the police station?

Phyllis: Really, what's the point?

Victoria: Nothing you have said scratches rey off the list. I mean, maybe he's trying to rattle us. Maybe he's trying to wait and see if one or all of us panic.

Tessa: All right. Aha. Here you go.

Nikki: Thanks. Thank you.

Tessa: All right. Well, can I get you all anything else -- scones? The blueberry bars are pretty great.

Victoria: No, this is all we need. Thank you.

Sharon: Thanks.

Tessa: Okay.

Phyllis: So, a likely suspect is a trained detective who wants to put all of us in jail. No big deal.

Victoria: If not rey, who else wants us on edge like this?

Sharon: Nikki, is it possible that this could be victor? At humana, we believe great things are ahead of you when you start with healthy. Jack: Didn't expect to see you during business hours. What's going on? You playing nicely at work?

Kyle: I've been a good soldier -- attentive and productive. Ashley's pleased by my efforts.

Jack: Glad to hear it.

Kyle: And while ted was on his lunch break, I accessed some accounts on his computer.

Jack: Okay, I'm gonna stop you right there. That is precisely the opposite of what I asked you to do this morning.

Kyle: And I did some digging with the bank and accounting departments.

Jack: This only gets worse.

Kyle: I pretended the new C.E.O. Was writing me to reconcile accounts, so I found out where the mysterious monthly payments are going to -- type a consulting, for the services of andrew -- wait for it -- lynford. So then I tracked down the address. It's just a P.O. Box, not an office or a lab or even a studio apartment. It's a shell company. And my crimes are suddenly besides the point.

Jack: I will allow that it does bring up some questions.

Kyle: The checks have been going out regularly for six months. Then they stopped, just like that, which would explain why andrew nudged me to keep his deal in place with ashley. Andrew has gone rogue, and ashley has no idea.

Jack: Those payments could still be for consulting work.

Kyle: In what capacity? Why would ashl abbott contract an unknown company with no actual physical place of business for no known actual service? This isn't work-related, dad -- at all. Now we take the evidence to ashley and see what kind of B.S. Excuse she comes up with.

Jack: You are not doing that. In your position, you start making accusations like that, she just fires you, and there's nothing you or anyone else can do about it.

Kyle: Ashley is hiding something, dad.

Jack: That may be. But let me handle this may way.

Lily: She's a single mother with no support, so she was convicted of check fraud because she was just trying to feed her kids. And because she has no family, her kids end up in the system and not even together. They're in separate foster homes. Her family is being ripped into a million pieces.

Cane: I know you care about her -- I do -- and I'm worried that these people have seen you in magazines and if you get too involved, they may just want to take advantage of you.

Lily: I'm not in a magazine now.

Cane: All right. Okay. So, how 'bout we do this? When you get home --

Lily: Yeah, to our beautiful house in a safe neighborhood, with our children. I mean, a lot of these women here will never get that.

Cane: Okay. I can have mattie research some charities.

Lily: And then what -- you're gonna write a check?

Cane: Yeah. I'll have chancellor write a really big check.

Lily: Cane, that's -- that's great. You know, money is great. But what happens is we write these zeros and we forget these are real people with real problems, and they need help. I want to do something substantial for mikayla.

Cane: I know that you care. I do.

Lily: It's not enough. I can do more. You know, being in here has been a shock, but it's given me new perspective, and I realize that even in here, because I have you, because I have money, make a real difference with these women who haven't been as lucky as I have. And that's what I have to do.

[ Knock on door ]

Ashley: Yes?

[ Door opens ]

Jack: Hey! I came to officially meet your new assistant. I heard only great things, but he's not there.

Ashley: Oh, you wanted to chat with ted, huh? You sure you're not checking to see if the building's still standing?

Jack: I come in peace. I come in support. Look, you're a strong, capable leader, ashley, and I'd hate to think where we would be today if billy were still in that chair. I know you will manage jabot with care and integrity and, uh, no poker games.

Ashley: [ Laughs ] You can pretty much count on that.

Jack: I am kind of curious about one thing. Um, type a consulting -- we've been sending checks to them regularly.

Ashley: Yeah. Outside r&d company.

Jack: Oh. So, what are they working on?

Ashley: This and that. Hey, shouldn't you be more concerned with things going on at dark horse?

Jack: You know, I'm just overly conscious of loose ends under billy's mismanagement. I'm sure you want to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

Ashley: Of course. That's always been my primary focus, jack. This isn't your problem. I've got everything covered.

Kyle: Type a is a shell company. It doesn't do r&d or anything else for jabot.

Ashley: Excuse me. It is against company policy for an employee, even if they are a board member, to try to gain access to confidential files that are beyond their position. You are in breach of your contract.

Kyle: That's interesting, 'cause you were more than willing to bend the rules for access to billy's files.

Jack: Okay, let's slow things down for a second.

Ashley: I'm not gonna take action because the family's been through too much, but don't you ever do anything like this again.

Kyle: Who is andrew lynford, ashley, and why are you paying him off with company funds?

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Ashley: My arrangement with type a was cleaning up one of billy's messy decisions.

Kyle: That's strange, 'cause andrew never once mentioned billy's name.

Ashley: Hmm. When did you talk to him?

Kyle: When he came to me, complaining that you and he had a deal and then you shut down the project. He's pissed, and he wanted me to pass along the message that he had some damaging information -- something that could destroy both you and jabot. He felt it was in your best interest to keep the arrangement in place.

Ashley: Obviously, nobody likes to lose a paycheck. Nothing else to explain, except maybe why the hell are you listening to the rantings of a stranger?

Jack: Billy mentioned type a a couple of weeks ago -- brought it up out of nowhere. I guess he thought it was my deal or something. But...if you could shed any light on it, I'm sure that would be a help. We don't want rumor and speculation, particularly in your first week in charge. So, who is this andrew guy, and why are you paying him through a shell company?

Ashley: Guys, come on! This is a non-issue.

Jack: Are you being blackmailed? Does this guy have something on you? Because we are family, first and foremost, and we want to help.

Cane: I understand what you're saying, all right? It's just that, you know, not everyone is like you, and I'm just worried that they may have ulterior motives. You know what I mean? I mean, how well do you know this woman?

Lily: Well, I'm not talking about have her move into mattie's room. I'm just saying help her figure out the system, to find out what her rights are, how to keep her kids together. I mean, why is this so hard for you?

Cane: Because we already have enough going on with our own family -- that's why.

Lily: [ Scoffs ] Right. Because of me.

Cane: I'm not saying that to you, okay? Hey, I'm -- I'm sorry. I didn't want to make it sound like that. It's just... I just miss you, all right? I miss you. That's all this is.

[ Exhales sharply ] Well, they're going to, um... throw me out of here soon, so, um... I just want to give you that.

Lily: Thank you.

Cane: Well, I'll see you. Hey. Hey, hey, hey. Hey. I don't want to leave you like this.

Nikki: Why on earth would victor send out four letters just to torment us?

Victoria: Dad does bizarre things for all sorts of reasons, mostly to gain control.

Phyllis: Well, don't think he wouldn't love to have something like this on all of us. Did you tell him? Did you trust your beloved husband with our secret?

Nikki: No. I did not. I don't enjoy keeping secrets from my husband, but I did not tell him!

Phyllis: Maybe you thought he was gonna cheer you on for trying to get rid of the guy who tried to kill him.

Nikki: Okay. As I was saying, I have not told victor, and I won't, because we all made an agreement, and i don't want this thing to torture victoria any longer.

Phyllis: Okay. Well, victor I could see. He would want to protect you and victoria. But the notes are smokescreens -- okay? -- Until he hangs sharon and me out to dry.

Nikki: Phyllis, I am not the weak link.

Phyllis: Well, don't look at me.

Victoria: You're the one who's been spending months partying and gambling with billy. Do you remember everything that you said to him in your drunken nights of revelry?

Phyllis: Are you suggesting he wrote those letters and sent them from rehab?

Sharon: People find all kinds of ways of getting around the rules.

Phyllis: Really? That's what we're doing right now?

Sharon: I'm just saying victoria doesn't trust you or your judgment, and why should she?

Phyllis: If it's not billy or victor, then it is someone with a grudge.

Victoria: Whoever it is, the fact that they targeted all of us means that they suspect something. How and why?

Sharon: Rey said the same thing that dylan used to say -- criminals always make mistakes. And the smallest clue can give the whole thing away.

Victoria: And he's worked all of us.

Phyllis: Yeah, doing little favors, worming his way into conversations so he can pick up on clues. We told you to get information, not to give it.

Sharon: I haven'T.

Nikki: You've gotten too close, sharon. And given the recent events, you're probably going to get closer.

Sharon: Oh. Even when it's your son who cheats, I get the insults.

Nikki: It's just an observation.

Sharon: Okay. I am not the one to blame for any of this.

Victoria: Stop it!

Ashley: I'm not doing this. I don't answer to either one of you. Kyle, you are my subordinate. Jack, come on! You don't even work here anymore!

Kyle: We can have this conversation with the board.

Ashley: Oh. Well, that's a great idea. Just drag the board in after I've just been newly installed as C.E.O., Which you voted against, by the way, so that makes you look petty, vindictive, and disloyal. And then you're gonna be embarrassed because andrew is my employee who I have hired to work on highly confidential projects to ensure the future of our company.

Kyle: According to him, he doesn't work for you anymore. You cut him loose. So, exactly how crucial can his work here be?

Jack: If his work is that important, why would you hide it?

Ashley: I'm not ready to share it. P.S. -- That's my prerogative.

Kyle: And you can't give a straight answer. None of this explains why the guy said he had dirt on you.

Ashley: I don't owe you an explanation, kyle. When you came back into town, you turned around and stabbed your own father in the back because you were colluding with victor, who would do anything to inflict damage on our family. For all I know, you're still working with him.

Kyle: That's ridiculous.

Ashley: What about that missing video -- you know the one where abby was interviewing dina, that clip where she says that jack isn't john abbott's son? You had access to that because you were living in the house. God knows you love to ingratiate yourself to victor. What better way than to hand him that little nugget -- inflict the worst pain you could on your own father? I'm right, aren't I?

Kyle: You don't get to turn this around on me.

Ashley: You know, not that long ago, you looked me in the eye. You said you'd do anything to prove your loyalty to me. What is this? Are you trying to play games with me? You're trying to lower my guard so you can ruin my reputation? Did you put him up to this?!

Jack: We are not trying to harm you! If you're compromised right now, if you're trying to get out of whatever situation this is with andrew, we want to help!

Ashley: I don't need you to save me, jack! I need you to leave so I can do my job! And you -- I am so sick and tired of you, kyle. If you can't support me, then give me your resignation right now. And you, too -- why don't you just resign from the board while you're at it? I will not stop you. No? Well, then I guess we're done here. Goodbye.

[ Sighs ]

Cane: I'm sorry. I just -- I just don't know how to do this. You know, you're in here, and just... I think about you in your cell. It drives me crazy. And I would change places with you if I could. I just -- I just feel helpless. That's all.

Lily: I know. I miss you so much. And every night I go to sleep, i think about being in our bed together, and I try to imagine the sounds of our house -- you know, sam on the monitor and... charlie getting water... mattie's music while she studies. I just -- I love you. I love all of you.

Cane: We love you.

Lily: I know. And that's what gets me through each day. But, cane, I am not the same person anymore. I am not who I was before the accident and before this place.

Cane: I understand. I do. And I love you. I'll always love you, no matter what.

Andrew: I had a nice little chat with your nephew kyle, but you probably know all about that. You've been dragging your feet on this one, ashley. You needed a friendly little reminder that I am serious -- that, together, we sink or we float in this.

Ashley: And that was the last time you're ever gonna threaten me.

Victoria: Okay, look... we need to stop with all this sniping and the backbiting. There's too much at stake. Now we have to take a look at what we're dealing with here. There's a threat, and it's real. Whoever sent these letters wants that. That's why they all arrived at different times -- so that we'd be careless and we would be paranoid. So, we have to proceed with caution. That's what we have to do. We don't know who sent these letters or how they know what they know, so we have to keep our guards up and be ready for the next move, because one thing is for sure -- something is coming.

Esther: Cane! Oh, my god! It's been so long since I've seen you!

Cane: Hey, esther.

Esther: Ohh. Ohh!

Cane: You good?

Esther: Yeah. So, how are things?

Cane: Uh, okay.

Esther: Oh, I'm sorry. Loaded question.

Cane: Yeah. Yeah. I just, uh -- you know, I kind of don't know where to start or, you know, if you have the time.

Esther: Oh, yeah. You know, I'm just here meeting some friends for a late lunch.

Cane: Well, I don't want to keep you from that, so it's okay.

Esther: Oh, no, no, no. Absolutely. I came here early for the sole purpose of grabbing a drink before.

[ Gasps ] Oh, a white-wine spritzer, one ice cube, please.

Cane: Sounds like you've had a rough day.

Esther: Absolutely not. I've heard you say that chancellor industries practically runs by itself.

Cane: Well, we don't want to jill that, okay?

Esther: Yeah. Well, same can be said for the mansion. Thank you.

Cane: Your secret is safe with me -- shh.

Esther: Oh, yeah. So...back to my original question. Now, you don't have to go into detail, but I can guarantee you I'm a much listener than that glass of scotch.

Cane: It's lily. It's lily.

Esther: Oh, honey. I know it's got to be really difficult, but sometimes it helps to talk about things, and... I bet you haven't even had a chance to discuss this with anyone outside of the immediate family.

Cane: No. You know, it is prison. I'd be lying if I said she was doing great. She's putting on this brave face for the kids, but today she's dropped the facade.

Esther: Oh, I'm so, so sorry.

Cane: It's okay. I know she's strong. I know she's gonna be fine. It just -- it just breaks my heart to see her go through this, you know?

Esther: Well, luckily, you're as strong as she is. And if there's any two people that can get through things, it's you guys. You've done it before, and you'll do it again, and you'll both be there to raise each other up when life throws roadblocks in front of you.

Cane: You know what? You are right. You are absolutely right. You know, the kids -- this is hard oh them, and they hate it, but it's just gonna make them stronger, isn't it?

Esther: Gosh. It's been so long since I've seen them.

Cane: Yeah.

Esther: They're probably looking at colleges now, right?

Cane: You know mattie. She's been looking at college ever since junior high. Here. Let me show you.

Esther: Ah. Let me see.

Cane: There you go.

Esther: Oh, gosh! They're practically adults!

Cane: Oh, don't remind me.

Esther: Oh. Is this little sam?

Cane: Yeah. Not so little anymore, is he?

Esther: Oh, wow. What a cutie!

Cane: I should bring them by the house.

Esther: I would love that! It's been so long since I've seen all of them.

Cane: Me, too. Absolutely. I'll bring them over.

Esther: Okay.

[ Cellphone chimes ] Oh, my gosh. My friends are here. They're parking.

Cane: Well, you go and have some fun.

Esther: It was great seeing you, cane.

Cane: You, too.

Esther: Listen, don't be a stranger. You know where jill has me locked up.

Cane: Okay.

Esther: Bye.

Cane: Bye. Hey, esther. Thank you.

[ Sighs ]

Kyle: Ashley is more on edge than I have ever seen her.

Jack: It is all about that damn clause. I could sense it. I could hear it in her voice. I made her an outsider, and she still feels that way.

Kyle: You mean you're sympathetic?

Jack: I am acknowledging that I contributed to this situation.

Kyle: Ashley isn't licking old wounds. She's being just as shady as billy ever was, and that type a guy, andrew -- there is something there. Now she's throwing her power around to make sure we don't go digging into it. If she goes unchecked, who knows how much harm she can cause jabot?

Jack: After the display we just saw in there... I frankly don't know if we can stop her.

Ashley: You are so incredibly stupid.

Andrew: [ Chuckles ] Look, I didn't come here to be insulted.

Ashley: You came here because I told you to come here because you work for me.

Andrew: Oh, no, no. I worked for you, past tense, per your unilateral decision. Look, no money, no loyalty.

Ashley: You've been breaking the law, and I can prove it.

Andrew: Mm?

Ashley: Worst-case scenario, you go to prison. Best case, you'd never work in your field again. I can make your life really difficult, andrew.

Andrew: Well, then it's mutually assured destruction, all right? I've got no problem taking you down with me.

Ashley: I haven't broken the law.

Andrew: No, maybe not. But you've broken the bonds of family trust. If the abbott clan finds out what you've been up to --

[ Clicks tongue ] -- No more family dinners for ashley.

Ashley: Billy is not going to believe one word out of your mouth. They think they're protecting me from an extortionist. Do you understand? You misjudged your leverage. I can tell them that you forced me into this.

Andrew: What? You came to me.

Ashley: I've also recorded every single one of our meetings, which means I control the narrative. Now, look... I don't want this to get ugly. I'm very happy to give you one last very generous payment. And then we can pretend that it never happened. We can go our separate ways. So, what are you gonna do? You gonna take your chances, or do we part as friendly colleagues that wish each other well?
