Episode #11447 ~ Neil is jealous of Ashley's mystery man; Kyle crosses the line; Billy is pushed to the limit.

Provided By Suzanne

Previously on "the young and the restless"...

Rey: Abby may have second thoughts about you if she knew what you did.

Arturo: Is that a threat?

Rey: Not if you tell me where lola is.

Billy: Type a consulting. You heard of them?

Ashley: Why do you ask?

Billy: Didn't recognize the name.

Ashley: You slashed my r&d budget, remember? So I was forced to farm out research to an outside firm.

Jack: I have to find out his name and whether he had a connection with my mother.

What do you want from me now, christian miller? Money?

I'm no longer christian miller, I'm victor newman. I'm the victor newman. I'm wealthy beyond your wildest dreams and known around the world, and perhaps I should thank you for the cruelty you have done to me! Because, with that, I would not be the man I am now!

Mariah: If anybody can identify this man, please go to our website.

Abby: We got a response from matt miller.

Ashley: You mean victor's brother?

Kyle: Hey, dad. Have time for coffee?

Jack: You know what, I'm in a bit of a rush. You have a good day at work.

Kyle: Oh, well, at least tell me if abby's gotten a name yet for the guy in dina's phototo.

Rey: Look, it says it right there in black and white. Nick was released not long after he was arrested.

Abby: In the 8th paragraph. I need the genoa city police department or the D.A.'S office -- someone -- to release a statement clearing nick's name, saying that he's not in any legal trouble, and neither is his company.

Rey: I'm not authorized to make a statement like that.

Abby: But you were authorized to arrest nick?

Rey: Look, as much as I like the guy personally, when it comes to the law, the newmans are like everybody else. I can't give you or your brother any special treatment.

Abby: Do you always time your arrests to make the maximum public spectacle?

Rey: No, the timing was a coincidence. I didn't have any say when the warrant went down.

Abby: Excuse me? How gullible do you think that i am? You could have arrested nick later in the evening at his house. You could have pulled him aside and made arrangements for him to turn himself in, but, no, you decided to arrest him and embarrass him at the most important event of his entire life. I hope you're happy.

Rey: Okay. Some things you should know about me. I take no pleasure in other people's pain. And I can be single-minded when it comes to my work.

Abby: [ Scoffs ]

Rey: But I see now that i could have handled things better.

Abby: You think?

Rey: If I had to do it again, maybe I'd do it differently.

Abby: Nick has a lot of people working for him, including arturo. In case you didn't know, he's our full-time construction chief. There's a lot of people counting on nick to make this company a success, and things like that article -- it doesn't help.

Rey: All right, I'll tell you what, I will contact our communications office and see if they will issue that statement you wanted released.

Abby: Thank you.

Rey: You're welcome. But what I'm not gonna do is lay off investigating J.T.

Abby: Of course. I hope not. I hope that you guys find him and punish him. We all do.

Rey: Good. And I'm glad you're so protective of your family. Something we have in common.

Nick: Tell them I'll give them my answer first thing in the morning. Hey. All right. Let's hear it. What is going on with you?

Summer: How would feel if your own father was treating you like the enemy?

Nick: Mm, like it's a wednesday?

Summer: This isn't funny, dad.

Nick: Sorry, it's too easy.

Summer: I mean, can I still count on you? Do you still love me unconditionally, or have i burned those bridges with you, too?

Nick: Summer, you know the answer to both of those questions.

Summer: You've been so disappointed with me lately.

Nick: Come on. You know I love you, and I'll always be here for you. Doesn't mean I always like your behavior, though.

Summer: Yeah, I get it.

Nick: So, spill it. Who in your life is on the other side of this burned bridge?

Summer: Just so we're clear, I'm the one that lit the match. I... took someone for granted repeatedly, and now he's cut me off, and I can't even blame him. And... you know, I don't really have a lot of friends to begin with, so I can't just be throwing him away like that.

Nick: [ Sighs ] Have you apologized?

Summer: No, it's too late for that.

Nick: Well, maybe it's worth a shot, you know? Sounds like this friend of yours really hung in there with you for a long time. Maybe hearing those words from you is exactly what he's waiting to hear himself.

Summer: Yeah. I mean, who know, maybe there's still a chance to salvage things.

Nick: What's the worst that can happen? You find out that it's true and that there isn't? If that's the case, then you get some closure, and then you can move on.

Jack: Sorry, it sounds like I'm interrupting.

Summer: No, no, no, no. Sorry, no, I'm actually just leaving. Thank you for the advice, dad.

Nick: Summer. Good luck.

Summer: Thanks.

Jack: Everything okay?

Nick: Yeah. She heard about my arrest. I assume you have some questions, as well.

Jack: A few.

Nick: Well, let's just get it out of the way, then. It was me who hacked newman enterprises, and I did it by impersonating J.T.

Kyle: Shane! Glad you picked up.

[ Chuckles ] Hey, hey, that big betting syndicate you told me about in manhattan -- is that still around? The retired bookies who do the handicapping... right, for the high-roller crowd. Awesome. Can you send me some info?

[ Chuckles ] Uh, no. Not for me. Far too rich for my blood. But I know someone who might be interested.

Billy: "Join us in the winner's circle. Amazing opportunity for elite gamblers, only our syndicate boasts world-famous oddsmakers, ensures that you will come out ahead."

Kyle: Got a minute?

Billy: Yeah. What's going on?

Kyle: I got your memo about yanking the funding for our new subscription fragrance service.

Billy: And you're here to talk me out of it.

Kyle: Actually, I think it's for the best.

Billy: Really? You were so gung-ho about the test market.

Kyle: We were moving so slowly, being too cautious. It was pretty much guaranteed one of our competitors would beat us to the punch. When an opportunity like that comes along and we spot the potential, got to go all-in. Anything else, and you're deciding to lose.

Billy: I couldn't agree with you more. It's exactly how I feel about the boutiques. Right now, we can't afford to risk anything else. It's the reality, but it's a shame.

Kyle: Gotcha.

Billy: Don't worry about it. There's plenty of projects coming down the pipeline to keep you busy. And, right now, I got to get to a meeting. You good?

Kyle: [ Sighs ]

[ Sighs ] Billy just left.

Summer: I know. I saw. I, uh, came to talk to you. When you weren't in your office, I just figured that you were --

Kyle: I have a full day, summer. What is it you need?

Summer: To tell you how sorry I am. I didn't like the way that we left things yesterday, and, um...

Kyle: It's the only way that I can --

Summer: Just let me finish, okay? Look, I know that I hurt you, and I feel terrible about it. You didn't deserve it, and you've been such a wonderful friend to me, and I promise to change the way that I treat you. If you still want to be in my life. God knows that I need someone to help me figure out why I'm such a mess.

Kyle: And you think that someone ought to be me?

Summer: Yeah, who else knows me the way that you do?

Kyle: It's true. I do understand you. Probably better than anyone you've ever met. That's what makes it so amazing that you don't get me at all.

Ashley: Hi!

Ashley. Great to see you again.

Ashley: You, too. Frankly, I was a little surprised that you wanted to meet in public.

Well, I never thought we'd actually be having this conversation. Our little arrangement has worked so well and all up until now.

Ashley: Why? What's the problem?

Well, I got a letter today.

Ashley: Hold on one second, please. Sorry, excuse me. Hi!

Neil: Hey.

Ashley: I didn't know you were back in town.

Neil: Well, yeah, um, sofia's on the mend, so...

Ashley: Good.

Neil: Here I am.

Ashley: Yeah, here you are. You're probably wondering --

Neil: Hey, listen, you can see whoever you want to see. That's your prerogative. I mean, what did we do? We both agreed that we wouldn't be exclusive, so...

Ashley: Yeah.

Neil: And I got to admit, i was hoping we'd get there someday.

Ashley: Oh.

Neil: I mean, no pressure from my end. At all.

Ashley: Okay.

Neil: Yeah.

Ashley: Come with me, please. Neil, I would like you meet andrew, who is a fantastic chemist I've hired to do some freelance consulting to handle some work at jabot.

Pleasure.

Neil: Yeah. Yeah, likewise.

Ashley: Neil and his son devon own hamilton-winters.

Oh, I read about your acquisition of mergeron. That's very impressive.

Neil: Thank you, andrew. Appreciate that. Listen, I'm gonna let you get back to it. You -- you have a nice day.

Ashley: Bye.

Nick: So, I made a deal for full immunity, and that should be the end of it.

Jack: Until it all gets out, which it always has a way of doing.

Nick: Yeah, I'm not so sure about that. My dad chose to keep quiet, and the man who did the actual theft wants to lay low.

Jack: Hacking, as you know, still leaves digital fingerprints. Look, you may have immunity with chris and paul, but that doesn't mean that the feds are gonna give you a free pass. You really want to take that chance?

Nick: Yeah, you're probably right. I mean, the files served their purpose. There's no point in hanging onto them. So I'll just hire a cybersecurity expert and wipe all the data.

Jack: I got to say, it's a hell of a plan. Taking over J.T.'S entire identity -- that's a real victor move. Wouldn't have known you had that in you.

Nick: You say that like it's a compliment. I'm getting sick and tired of all the comparisons to my father.

Jack: It's a fact of life, nick. All men measure themselves against their father. Except in my case, the man i thought was my father. Even victor does it. Count on it.

Nick: Well, albert miller's a pretty low bar. Anyone would compare favorably to that bastard.

Arturo: Oh, my god. She's 15 minutes late so far.

[ Scoffs ]

Abby: I'm sure she's stuck in traffic.

Lola: Sorry, sorry. I swore I would be on time for once.

Arturo: Abby, meet my sister lola.

Abby: Hi.

Lola: Hi!

Abby: Oh!

Lola: It's so great to finally meet you in person. It feels like I know you already, though. I follow you online.

Abby: I'm flattered. It's nice to meet you.

[ Laughs ]

Arturo: My sister, the chef, has been nonstop talking about your taste in food.

Abby: Oh!

Lola: Okay, that post you did about how too many restaurants in this town play it safe, you are so not kidding. Come by my food truck anytime, and I'll make you food you won't soon forget. On the house.

Abby: And I'm guessing you want me to post about how wonderful your cooking is?

Lola: This one learns fast.

[ Laughter ]

Abby: Absolutely. I would love to help. It's only fair since your brother rey is doing me a huge favor.

Arturo: Yeah? What's that?

Abby: He is having the police issue a statement clearing nick's name.

Arturo: And what does he want in return?

Abby: Nothing.

Arturo: Rey never wants nothing.

Abby: Well, I think he felt bad about the mess he made of the situation.

Arturo: Well, all I can say is don't let your guard down. Rey likes to make people think he's a good person, but there is always a catch. Always. Lately, he's been pressuring me into helping him reconnect with lola.

Lola: Yeah, that won't happen.

Arturo: You put him above that? I don'T.

Lola: I already called him.

Billy: You're never gonna guess where I found ellie the elephant.

Victoria: Um, in the clothes hamper?

Billy: No, but very close. In my shoe, in my gym bag, in the closet. One of our two kids takes hide-and-go-seek very seriously.

Victoria: Well, thank you for bringing it back. Katie's been looking all over for it.

Billy: I figured she would be. Now, for my second good deed of the day, I'm taking you out for lunch, if you can swing it, of course.

Victoria: Oh, I would, but i can'T. I'm completely booked.

Billy: Really? That's a bummer.

Victoria: Why? Is there something that you wanted to discuss? Is everything okay?

Billy: Yeah, no, everything'S... everything's good. I mean, ashley and I still have our issues. But I called her in for a heart-to-heart today, and it was probably the best conversation we've had in, well, a while.

[ Cellphone rings ] And somebody's ears are burning.

Victoria: I'm fine. No, take it.

Billy: Hey, ash, what's going on?

Ashley: What the hell were you thinking?

Billy: I have no idea what you're talking about.

Ashley: I just heard that you sent a termination notice to type a consulting, basically cutting off the funding for my r&d project.

Billy: It's only temporary.

Ashley: Lies, billy, and I'm so sick of it. All you do is lie to me. You tell me that you respect me, it's just a bunch of words to you. You didn't mean any of them.

Billy: I did so, ashley, and I'm not canceling it. I'm just putting it on hold until --

Ashley: Save your breath. I should have known better than to give you the benefit of the doubt.

Billy: Like I said, ashley and I are getting along just great.

Ashley: Well, billy has been officially put on notice that i will never believe another word out of his mouth.

Mm.

Ashley: As for your services, it looks like I'll be paying them myself, from my personal account.

Summer: Hey, no, I want to finish our conversation.

Kyle: I don'T.

Summer: Please. Okay, what do you mean, that i don't understand you?

Kyle: You know what your problem is? You only see what you want to see. That's the opposite of having self-insight. You wanted to compete with your mother, so you were convinced billy was crazy for you. Now you want comfort. So you think I'm warm and fuzzy and safe, your bff. That's not who I am.

Summer: Well --

Kyle: And another thing -- hard though this might be for you to hear, my world doesn't revolve around you, summer. I have goals I want to accomplish in life, and I'm going for it. I'm probably going to push too hard, cross some lines, go too far.

Summer: Well, that sounds like me.

Kyle: Yeah, now you're getting it. That's what I thought we'd be good together. Two people with the same drive, the same killer instinct. But at a certain point, i realized we'd probably just wind up ripping each other to shreds. So better to walk away now and never look back.

Summer: Well, I disagree.

Kyle: Yeah, of course you do.

Summer: I learned my lesson, kyle. I don't want to lose you.

Kyle: People are who they are. They promise to change -- it's wasted energy.

Summer: All right, well, if people never change, then that must mean that you still care about me, right?

Kyle: I can't turn my feelings on and off like a switch, summer. But we both know how this novel ends, so let's just skip to the last page where we wish each other well and move on with our lives. The end.

"The young and the restless"

will continue.

Victoria: None of the board members support you, except for your girlfriend.

Billy: They only installed me as a figurehead. They wanted ashley to run the business from behind the scenes. It wasn't until I started making my own decisions...

Victoria: Oh. The board freaked. Well, that's pretty predictable.

Billy: You never treated me that way when we worked together. You were patient. You waited till I actually messed up to freak out. I appreciate that. That's not happening at jabot. And my ideas, they are home runs.

Victoria: The popcorn machine?

Billy: The popcorn machine is to bring talent into the workplace, to hopefully drag jabot into this century. The birthday suit campaign -- that marketing strategy -- home run. If you haven't seen the numbers, you should. They're great.

Victoria: Well, what about the other numbers? I mean, there is more than just the line of revenue in the annual report.

Billy: No, the only issue that people are concerned about is the fact that I haven't called a vote to get rid of the "blood abbott" clause and step aside so ashley could become C.E.O. They can't possibly look at my achievements. They've got zero faith in my abilities.

Victoria: Well, maybe it's not your performance in business but the way that you conduct yourself in your personal life.

Billy: Right, and why would you say that?

Victoria: Your family and lauren and the rest of the board members -- how much do they know about the gambling?

Nick: Here you go.

Jack: Oh, thanks. Hey, listen, about what I said earlier, I -- I didn't mean to bring up a sensitive subject. I've been thinking a lot about fathers and sons lately, for obvious reasons, but I know it was pretty painful when you and victor went to confront albert in his nursing home.

Nick: The man had no remorse whatsoever about abandoning his own family.

Jack: Had to be pretty hard for victor.

Nick: It was. You know, my dad would have been better off if he had never learned the truth, if he had just kept on believing that that old man was dead.

Jack: And sharing with albert what an amazing life he'd built, despite his father's callous indifference, he didn't find some satisfaction in that?

Nick: Just the opposite, actually. The truth is, albert got in my dad's head that day, and I don't think he ever really left. My dad didn't show up, you know, expecting to find some hero or some amazing human being, but i know he wanted some level of respect for everything that he's accomplished. I mean, my dad worked his tail off. He earned that. But he didn't get it. And I think that lasting image of the -- the hatred in albert's eyes... I think that got seared in my dad's brain forever. And it fuels him. I mean, how do you fight a ghost?

Jack: Yeah, that's a good question.

Nick: It's ironic, you know. My dad was so determined to not end up like his father, and here he is, alienated from his own son.

Jack: Such a shame. Not the legacy anyone would have hoped for.

Nick: I spent less than an hour with albert that day. My kids have never met him. But the man's influence was so toxic, the repercussions have impacted all of our lives for years afterward. If I never hear that man's name again, it'll be too soon.

Lola: I only decided to reach out this morning after you left for work.

Abby: Rey was on the phone when I showed up at the station. Was it with you?

Lola: Could have been. Remember, you said I could make my own decision about this.

Arturo: Yeah, it doesn't mean I have to like it.

Abby: How long has it been since you've talked to rey?

Lola: I mean, not since... we moved to genoa city.

Arturo: You should have left well enough alone.

Lola: Rey's a cop, a detective. He could find me if he wanted to. You said that he did.

Arturo: I think if you were worried about that --

Lola: I wasn't worried, but if I'm going to see our brother again, I want it to be on my terms.

Arturo: Good luck with that. See, with rey, it's either "my way or the highway."

Abby: You know, I really didn't get that vibe from him. I'm not saying that you're wrong. I'm just saying that, I mean, is it possible that he's matured since the last time you saw him? I mean, maybe he misses you guys. Maybe he wants to be part of your family again.

Arturo: Abby, I know you mean well, but you do not know him like I do.

Abby: Yeah. That's because you won't tell me anything about what happened between the two of you.

Arturo: Because I feel like I have spent too much of my life speaking to and about rey rosales. Did you already make plans to meet up with him?

Lola: Yes.

Arturo: Fine. I mean, it's your decision. I think you'll regret it, but just do me a favor and leave me out of it, okay?

Lola: Well, here's the thing.

Rey: Hey. Hey. Sorry I'm late.

Nick: Hey, jack, where's that file from the cincinnati developer? Martin's his name.

Jack: Uh, sorry. It's here somewhere.

Nick: It's right there. It's the blue one, coded blue for out-of-state.

Jack: Yeah, sorry.

Nick: You all right?

Jack: You know what, I -- I think you made me actually sympathize with victor. I'm not sure I have a place for that. I don't think I ever thought I'd feel that in my life.

Nick: Yeah, I felt terrible for my dad that day he came face to face with albert. We bonded over it. It didn't last.

Jack: Victor was already too damaged.

Nick: Not letting him off the hook, though, completely. I mean, yeah, my dad got a raw deal. He got an absolute creep for a father, but he keeps perpetuating the cycle into his old age. And at some point, you got to be a man. You got to step up and take responsibility and say, "maybe i didn't start this pain, but it ends with me." That's what I'm doing with my family.

Jack: Thanks. You've given me a lot to think about.

Arturo: You coming?

Abby: Yeah, um, hang on a minute.

Rey: You don't have to leave on my account.

Lola: You're not helping. Stay. For me. Please. Can't we talk about this?

Arturo: The time for that was this morning, when you made this decision and didn't warn me.

Lola: Would you have come if you knew rey would be joining us?

Arturo: No, but at least then you would have shown me the same respect I showed you when I let you make your own choice.

Lola: We have to start somewhere.

Arturo: No, we don'T.

Victoria: When I heard that you played in some big-time vegas tournament, I really couldn't believe my ears.

Billy: The fact that i invited phyllis with me proves that I'm not being secretive about my gambling.

Victoria: I can tell from the look on your face that you wish she hadn't told me.

Billy: Because you can't be objective.

Victoria: Well, it's kind of hard when you're talking about something that almost got us both killed.

Billy: No, it's not the same thing. Okay? It's not. Before you start, I know how it sounds, okay? But it's true. Look, not all addiction is the same. Some people are addicted to sex. Doesn't mean abstinence is the only option. Right? You don't have to be a monk to be sober and clean. And I know that addiction is a disease, but some diseases are manageable, like diabetes. Okay, well, at least phyllis understands me.

Victoria: [ Scoffs ] Phyllis is scared to death.

Billy: She would never say that to you.

Victoria: She doesn't have to because I've been in this position before, I know what it's like. Desperately wanting to know what is driving the person so that maybe can protect your loved one from himself. But you can't because someday, something bad is gonna happen. It's at that point you realize you don't have any power over that other person's choices.

Billy: I'm really sorry that I came here today.

Victoria: Billy --

Billy: No, it's fine. It's fine. I'll just make sure you to write you down on the list with everybody else that's waiting for me to fail. Really great to see you.

Neil: Look who it is.

Ashley: May I come in?

Neil: Sure. Come on in.

Ashley: So, I was under the impression earlier -- correct me if I'm wrong...

Neil: Mm-hmm.

Ashley: ...That maybe you needed just a little reassurance about where things stand with us.

Neil: Not my smoothest move.

Ashley: Yeah, well, you know, we all have them.

Neil: Listen, in my defense, I -- I... got absolutely nothing. Really, I --

Ashley: Really? Nothing?

Neil: Yeah, I should have known you wouldn't hide anything. You've been completely honest with me from the get-go.

Ashley: Mm, I have been, and I'm not seeing anybody else. I mean, you know, right now.

Neil: You were doing so well up till the "right now." That's not the most reassuring phrase, you know that, right?

Ashley: Okay, so, then is there anything I can do? I mean, anything at all that might reassure you?

Abby: I don't know why you wouldn't want to make things better. I just -- I don't understand.

Arturo: I just wish you would trust my judgment. It's not as if I made this decision lightly. Nick. Is there anything that would make things right between you and victor?

Nick: By "make things right," you mean...?

Arturo: All is forgiven and forgotten.

Nick: Not in this lifetime. We have reached the point of no return.

Rey: I still can't get over it.

Lola: What?

Rey: How much you've grown up.

Lola: Well, that's what happens when...time passes.

Rey: Arturo hasn't changed. He's still the stubborn --

Lola: Look, it's not his fault. I kind of ambushed him.

Rey: Are you sorry that you agreed to meet up with me?

Jack: You all right?

Abby: If you're asking about things with arturo, everything's fine. Just a difference of opinion.

Jack: Those do happen.

Abby: So, have you thought about what you're gonna do with that photo?

Jack: Actually, nick just convinced me that your grandfather was a monster. So I'm starting to wonder if i might be better off just burying the whole subject.

Abby: Have you thought about bringing it up to my dad?

Jack: No way. And I don't want you speaking to victor about this, either. Or anyone else. Promise me, abby.

Ashley: So, are you feeling reassured?

Neil: [ Chuckles ] Very.

Ashley: Good.

Neil: You know something, though?

Ashley: Mm, what?

Neil: I'm feeling this like there's a knot here.

Ashley: Oh!

Neil: You seem a little tense. What's up with that, huh?

Ashley: Neil.

Neil: Hmm?

Ashley: Do you ever feel like you just spend your whole life just putting fires out, just one after the other?

Neil: Only a little bit.

Ashley: Yeah?

Neil: Mm-hmm. It seems to me that, you know, you could use a break.

Ashley: Isn't that what this is?

Neil: No. That's not what this is. I'm talking about a real break. I'm talking about maybe a long weekend somewhere. Like new york.

Ashley: Mm.

Neil: You know, see some plays, let's get some good food. Come on.

Ashley: Mmm, that sounds so tempting. I wish I could. There's too much going on here. It requires my full attention.
