Episode #11455 ~ Devon and Hilary celebrate their love; Billy disappoints Phyllis.

Mariah: My world has come into focus, and what I want, tessa, is you. So if you need to leave, I guess I'm going with you.

Shauna: It wasn't the truck driver's fault. Your mom ran a red light. Does she know?

Charlie: She can't remember.

Devon: "You are invited to the joyous wedding celebration of hilary curtis and devon hamilton."

Hilary: You want to marry me in the hospital? I'm not gonna make it, am I?

Phyllis: The doctors don't think so.

Devon: I, devon, take thee, hilary, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold from this day forward, for as long as we both shall live.

In your hands, o lord, we humbly entrust our sister, hilary.

Hilary: No. Wait. That's not --

It breaks our hearts that she's lost this battle.

Hilary: No, this isn't a funeral, this is my --

But we are comforted knowing that she is embraced in your tender love.

Hilary: [ Gasps ]

Neil: Hey!

Devon: Hey, man.

Neil: Wow. Look at you. Looking sharp, man.

Devon: Thanks. Can't make the bride look bad.

Neil: Yeah. Right? Have you finished your vows?

Devon: Yeah. I did. I did, I just -- I stopped thinking about everybody who'd be in the room listening to me and just focused on the only person that mattered, and it came very easy.

Neil: Good, good, good.

Devon: Where's nate?

Neil: Uh, he'll be in in a sec.

Devon: Did he happen to --

Neil: He checked with the hospital right before I came over here. Hilary is holding steady, man.

Devon: Good.

Neil: I am glad that I have this moment with you.

Devon: Have any advice?

Neil: You don't need it. You did good, kid. The way you pulled everything together for hilary...

Devon: She'd do the same for me. We're giving this day to each other.

Neil: You know, it hasn't been lost on me. It's because of you. The willingness you've had to overlook our past, our disagreements -- it's the main reason why we have a relationship today.

Devon: I mean, I hurt you, too.

Neil: Yeah, but you reached the point of forgiveness long before I did. You know, when hilary got pregnant and moved in with you, I disapproved, and I was very vocal about it.

Devon: Well, you had your reasons.

Neil: It was very selfish of me, you know, feeling like my past with hilary should determine your future with her. I am so glad you didn't listen to me. Do you know what it means to me? The two of us, our whole family is close again. Oh, my god, after everything we've been through.

Devon: It means the world to me, too. And to hilary. So if there's any lingering feelings, neil...

Neil: No, they're not. And when we all come together, for the wedding, that room -- man, it's gonna be filled with so much love. Yeah, man, come here.

Phyllis: Happy wedding day!

[ Chuckles ]

Hilary: You're the first person to tell me that.

Phyllis: You look good.

Hilary: [ Sighs ] I've been staring at that garment bag. I hope that I picked a dress that devon would like.

Phyllis: Like? Are you kidding me? He's gonna melt when he sees you in this. This is perfection right here.

Hilary: Mm-hmm, proving that I am brilliant.

Phyllis: Because you chose devon, or because you have a spectacular sense of style?

Hilary: Because I picked a fabulous maid of honor.

Phyllis: Confession. I did next to nothing. You know, I know that devon, he really has put together everything.

Hilary: What did he do now?

Phyllis: He has got you a stylist to do your hair and your makeup, and you've got a kick-butt manicurist.

Hilary: He is just -- he's trying to make this a dream wedding day.

[ Chuckles ] For as much of a dream as you can have in here. There's nothing that he wouldn't do for me.

Phyllis: Did you tell him that you figured it out?

Hilary: I considered it. But, uh... I'm holding out for a miracle.

Phyllis: Good plan.

Hilary: But if I don't have much time left, I don't want this day to be filled with tears and regrets and what should have been, okay? I want to enjoy every minute.

[ Sniffles ] Starting with this one. It's my wedding day, and it's gonna be the best day of my life.

Cane: [ Sighs ] Hey. Hey, what's going on? Hey. What are you thinking about?

Lily: I'm just... devastated for devon and hilary. I don't know how devon's gonna get through today. You know, making all these promises when he knows that it won't be long before he loses her.

Lily: [ Crying ]

Cane: It's okay. It's gonna be okay, all right?

Lily: You know what, why don't -- why don't you just go ahead without me? I just need a minute by myself, if that's okay.

Cane: Of course. Okay. Hey, you sure you're all right?

Phyllis: Aren't you going to the ceremony?

Jack: Yeah! As soon as I finish this drink. I thought you'd be at the hospital with hilary.

Phyllis: Well, I had one more errand to run, but I thought it might be a good idea to grab a drink.

Jack: Oh? She becoming bridezilla?

Phyllis: Why would you say that? She's been nothing but calm and patient.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Why so tense? I thought you'd be thrilled that this wedding is happening.

Phyllis: I am. I just would like a little break before diving back in. Is that not allowed?

Jack: Okay, this is about billy, right? I thought you were gonna speak to him after the last time we talked.

Phyllis: I did, and it backfired. But I am not giving up. I mean, I can be strong and i can be positive for hilary, but inside, I feel like any second I'm just gonna break.

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa. I feel like I'm missing something here. You're gonna be strong and positive for hilary -- why?

Phyllis: The wedding.

Jack: Uh-huh. What about it?

Phyllis: Has devon not explained this to you?

Jack: I mean, I thought it was strange that they're getting married before she's even out of the hospital, but I just chalk that up to him being a hopeless romantic. After the accident, he didn't want another minute to pass without him proving his love for her, that... that they'd just have the ceremony again once she got out. Phyllis. There's something more to this, isn't there? Is devon doing this because her situation has worsened? Is time running out?

Mariah: Hey. I came as soon as I got your text. I don't have much time before i have to go to the hospital.

Tessa: I am sorry for making your day more intense, but this can't wait. I just heard from kimberly.

Mariah: The woman who checked out crystal?

Tessa: She said it looks like crystal's on the verge of moving out of the place she's been staying in. So we need to get to her soon.

Mariah: How soon are we talking?

Tessa: We need to leave town today.

Jack: I'm sure devon thinks he's doing the right thing, keeping hilary's prognosis from her, but...

Phyllis: She knows.

Jack: What do you mean, she knows? How?

Phyllis: It's hilary. She has a knack for reading people. She could tell I was holding something in. Devon's protecting her, and she's protecting him. She doesn't want the wedding to maudlin. So she's carrying on as if she will fully recover.

Jack: Why am I not surprised to know hilary wants to handle things that way?

Phyllis: You're not gonna say anything to devon?

Jack: No, I -- I'll do it for hilary. I -- the whole thing makes me sick. It wasn't enough they lost the baby? She had a whole life ahead of her. She built this amazing career. She finally found her way back to the man she was supposed to be with, and now it's all snatched from her. God, it's just awful what they're facing.

Phyllis: I know. Just seeing them get slammed like this, it makes you take stock in your own life.

Jack: Yeah, I've been doing a bit of that lately, after i learned about my paternity. Here's another lesson -- never take for granted the people that you love. Texting billy?

Phyllis: I need to see him today, and he should be at this wedding.

Jack: I hope he's there. If he's not, I will be there for you.

Phyllis: We'll be there for each other.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Mariah: I just thought that i would have maybe a couple more weeks to work up to this. And my job -- I mean, hilary is getting better, but she's not gonna be able to go into work tomorrow. I thought I would have more time.

Tessa: If there was a way to change it, I would. But this might be the last chance to get to my sister. If I lose track of crystal, she could disappear, and I'll never see her again. I have to leave town today, no matter what.

Mariah: I know. I get it.

Tessa: I still want you to come with me, but I'll understand if you can'T.

Mariah: I meant it when i said that I wanted to be with you.

Tessa: I know, but...

Mariah: I don't want to lose you.

Tessa: There's no other way.

Mariah: Well, then I guess I'm going with you.

Tessa: What? How?

Mariah: I don't know, I'll figure it out, but you're important to me.

Tessa: But... your whole life is here, and leaving so suddenly...

Mariah: It's gonna be okay.

Tessa: You don't have to pretend that this doesn't hurt. I -- god, I hate that I'm asking this of you.

Mariah: Tessa. I've got one shot at being with you. I'm not gonna throw it away. So I better get started.

Tessa: Wait. One more thing. Don't tell anyone why you're leaving.

Mariah: Wait, even sharon? But she knows about crystal. The whole situation. She would never --

Tessa: Crystal is still a fugitive. You'll be taking a huge risk joining me and putting anyone you tell in a terrible position, asking them not to reveal what they know to the police.

Mariah: Then I guess there's only one way to do this. I just got to leave. Without saying anything. Just avoid the questions.

Tessa: Are you sure?

Mariah: It's gonna be hard, lying to everybody on top of walking out of the door in the first place. Wow. Okay, um... all right, after the wedding, I'm gonna go home and I'll pack up my stuff. I'll see sharon for one last time, and then... goodbye, genoa city.

Shauna: I'm worried about hilary.

Charlie: She'll be okay.

Shauna: It's not just that she was hurt. I'm keeping this huge secret from her, and everybody else, acting like I had no idea your mom ran that red light.

Charlie: I wish my mom knew you're looking out for her. I love you for that. For helping me and her. Look. Someday soon, hilary will come home and things will get better.

Shauna: I hope so.

Hilary: Hey.

Nate: Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you. I just want to do a quick check-in. I'll let you get some rest.

Hilary: Nate.

Nate: Yeah?

Hilary: Thank you.

Nate: You shouldn't be thanking me. My job is to save lives, and i couldn't even --

Nate: Hey, hey, hey. Nate. Look at me. I am smiling because today is my wedding day. And the only reason that I'm around for that is because of you.

Nate: Yeah.

Hilary: Had you not scrubbed in for my surgery... I wouldn't be marrying the man of my dreams today.

Neil: Hey. Didn't meant to interrupt you...

Nate: No, no. It's, um... we're all good.

[ Sniffles ]

Neil: Yeah. Well, I, um... hi, first of all. I just wanted to let you know that I have safely delivered your groom to the premesis.

Hilary: Where is he?

Neil: Staying out of your sight. You're sticking to the rules. Remember the one where the groom doesn't see the bride before the ceremony? That one?

Hilary: He's so sweet. He's trying to make this seem like a normal wedding day, but there is nothing normal about getting married in the icu.

Neil: Well, devon wants what he wants. And what he wanted more than anything today is to make you happy.

Hilary: Well, tell the groom that the bride can't wait to say "I do."

Neil: I'll pass that along.

Hilary: Was there something else that you want to say to me?

Neil: Um... you and I... our relationship has run the gamut over the years.

Hilary: In love. Out of love. Married. Divorced. I don't think that there's a word for what we are.

Neil: [ Chuckles ] Why don't we try this one, okay? Friends.

Hilary: [ Chuckles ] We tried that, remember? It failed.

Neil: That's on me, you know. This is the part where you're supposed to disagree with me and then you take half the blame.

Hilary: Oh, well, um, how about a quarter of the blame?

Neil: That works, but I --

Hilary: Oh, but the man has conditions.

Neil: Scared?

Hilary: As if. Let me hear it.

Neil: Okay. So, from this point forward, we are on the same squad, okay? Part of the same family. And not just for devon.

Hilary: I'd like that. Closure, at last.

Neil: Yeah. That works, doesn't it? What took you so long?

Hilary: [ Laughs ]

Neil: I'll see you soon.

Hilary: Neil. This is the best present that you could have given me.

Neil: That's just what I was thinking.

Hilary: You didn't need to do this.

Phyllis: Yes, we did, because you're the bride, okay? And we are here. We got the new, the old, the borrowed, and the blue. It's tradition. So, shauna, you are up. Something new.

Hilary: Oh! So pretty.

Shauna: You like them?

Mariah: Well, you know, I am a tv pro, as well, so I got this. Oh, lookit here! We've got some toasting flutes, and they have the bride and the groom's named engraved in them.

Phyllis: Classy!

Shauna: Devon paid for them.

Hilary: You picked them out. I absolutely love them.

Shauna: You can use them today, and at the reception you guys are planning for when you get out of here. And on your anniversaries.

Hilary: It's such a thoughtful gift. Come here.

Phyllis: Okay, mattie. Keep it movin'.

Mattie: Okay, uh, so mom and I, who I thought would be here by now, did "something borrowed."

Hilary: Oh, they're earrings. They've lovely.

Mattie: There's mom'S. If she were here, she'd make some joke about how you should remember that they're on loan.

[ Chuckles ]

Hilary: And I would snap back and let her know I'll give them back in about 20, 30 years.

[ Laughter ] Thank you, mattie. And thank your mom for me.

Mattie: You'll be able to do that yourself. She'll be here for the wedding, for sure.

Phyllis: Okay, I think it's my turn. Um, open your hand.

Mariah: You decided to give her a rock.

Hilary: It's heart-shaped.

Phyllis: It is "something old," you know? It's a rock. What's older than rocks, right? And the day you lost the baby, i came across this, and I thought about you.

Shauna: Like a sign?

Phyllis: Well, uh, yeah. To me, it says love is always around. Even when you think you've lost it, you can walk around it, over it, beside it, but it's always there.

Mariah: Well, now that phyllis has made everybody a little bit weepy, it's my turn. I got blue.

Hilary: I can't even believe that you did this. You're not exactly the sentimental type.

Mariah: No, but I figured if I didn't get you something, I'd never hear the end of it, so...

[ Laughter ] Oh! Don't pull it out of the bag.

Phyllis: Oh! Well, does it bite?

Hilary: [ Laughs ] Only you, mariah.

Shauna: What is it?

Mattie: Can we see?

Mariah: No!

Hilary: No.

Mariah: Oh, no.

Phyllis: Oh, okay, that is funny.

Mattie: What is it?

Hilary: It's, um... it's a joke book.

Shauna: I don't get it.

Mattie: It's probably dirty jokes, which are sometimes called "blue."

Mariah: Yeah, and the cover is highly inappropriate. You guys are underage, so use your imagination.

[ Laughter ] I just wanted to make you laugh.

Phyllis: Mission accomplished. Okay, guys. Let's give the bride some time to relax so she can get herself together, and, uh, we will be back, and I'll get my dress on and help you, all right? Okay.

Hilary: Mariah. Can you stay? I need something.

Cane: [ Exhales sharply ] You know, uh, lily probably went through every piece of jewelry she had trying to find the right thing for hilary's "something borrowed." It means a lot for her to be included.

Devon: Well, it was hilary's idea. She didn't invite lily to please me.

Mattie: Hey, uh, dad, can i talk to you?

Cane: Sure. I'll be right back. What's up, mattie?

Mattie: Do you know where mom is?

Cane: She's not in the room with you and hilary?

Mattie: No, she was supposed to be, but she missed the whole gift-giving.

Cane: Uh, she probably lost track of time. I'll go find her, okay?

Mattie: Okay.

Cane: All right.

Shauna: Are you and hilary sure you don't need help?

Phyllis: You know what would make hilary happy? If you were hanging out with charlie and mattie and having a good time. We've got some time before the ceremony, okay?

Shauna: Okay, all right, I'll go, but text me if you need me.

Phyllis: You got it.

Shauna: All right.

Mariah: You are too much. You want to talk about the show now? You have a wedding to get ready for.

Hilary: It's important.

[ Sighs ] I've always been tough on you. I've never given you credit for how -- how good you are.

Mariah: Did you just call me good? Really? How many drugs do they have you on?

Hilary: I'm not high, okay? I'm -- I'm being honest. The fact is, I've always been jealous of how great you are on the show. Just a natural. But now I'm just proud of you. I know you can carry the show on your own.

Mariah: Thank you. But nobody's interested in watching "the mariah hour." They miss you. They want you back. And I was thinking we could air re-runs until you feel better.

Hilary: No. No. It's not gonna work long-term.

Mariah: You're making it sound like you're gonna be gone for months. I mean, I know you. You are gonna recuperate in no time. And as soon as they spring you from this hospital, I guarantee you're gonna call the crew, you're gonna have them set up from your bedroom.

Hilary: It's a nice thought. It's not gonna happen.

Mariah: What are -- what are you saying? Hilary.

Hilary: [ Panting ]

Mariah: Hilary. Hilary! Hilary!

Devon: You mean a whole lot to hilary.

Jack: Thank you for inviting me. It is an honor to be here.

Mariah: It's hilary.

Devon: What?

Mariah: I was talking to her. She passed out.

Devon: What? Honey. Hilary!

"The young and the restless" will continue.

Cane: Hey.

Lily: I know I missed it. I wasn't there to give hilary her gift.

Cane: I thought you wanted to go.

Lily: I did, but how can i look hilary and devon in the eye while they get married knowing that I'm the reason why their happiness is so short-lived?

Cane: Baby, it was an accident.

Lily: I was the one behind the wheel! [ Sobs ]

Cane: Sweetie, sweetie. It wasn't your fault, okay? And they don't blame you, okay? And hilary and devon, they want you there.

Lily: I don't think I can do it, I can't do it.

Cane: Baby, you have to do this. Lily, you have to do this.

Lily: [ Cries ]

Cane: Sweetheart, listen. It's like you said, okay? Devon knows that he's not going to have a long and happy married life. He knows that all he's doing is making a memory. And he wants you to be part of that memory, baby. For today and for what he knows is going to come. Devon needs you. You have to go. Come on.

Lily: [ Sniffles ]

[ Sighs ] I know you're right. I know.

Cane: Okay.

Lily: I know whatever I'm feeling, I have to put aside and just give devon and hilary a wedding day for them to cherish.

Cane: You ready to do this?

Lily: I'm glad you'll be with me.

[ Sniffles ]

Cane: I'll always be with you. Okay? Come here. Come here, baby.

Lily: [ Sniffles ]

Mariah: It happened so fast. I thought she was just closing her eyes or maybe resting for a second, and then I was calling her name and calling her name, and she wouldn't answer.

Phyllis: This can't be happening. This can't be happening. I mean, first she loses the baby, and all she wanted was a wedding. That's it.

Neil: Can't believe this. I mean, they were so excited about getting married. If this taken away from them...

Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa. We're all jumping way ahead of ourselves. It could be something very simple.

Neil: See, jack, I would like to believe that, but the last time I saw her, she was tired.

Jack: We all have to stay positive, neil.

Phyllis: He's right. I mean, she would be furious if we gave up right now.

Cane: Wait, did something happen?

Mariah: Hilary blacked out.

Lily: But she's gonna wake up, right?

Neil: We hope so.

Devon: Is this like a post-surgery complication? What's going on?

Nate: No, it's more serious than that. Hilary's lost consciousness because she's weakening. But I will make sure she has the pain medication she needs to keep her comfortable.

Hilary: [ Sighs ]

Devon: Hey. Hey, honey.

Hilary: Hey.

Devon: There you are.

Hilary: You weren't here before.

Devon: I know.

Hilary: How did I miss that?

Devon: You fell asleep. You're trying to get your beauty sleep before the wedding? Is that what's going on?

Hilary: Trying to look my best for you.

Devon: Oh, honey. You always do. Are you sure that you're up for this?

Hilary: To being your wife? You bet I am.

We have gathered together to consecrate the extraordinary love between devon and hilary. "Therefore, as god's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Bear with each other and forgive each other. If anyone has a grievance against someone, forgive as the lord forgave you. And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."

Neil: [ Clears throat ] The bride, my friend... she asked me to read this passage. "Violets." "And there stole into her consciousness, words, thoughts, not of her own, yet she read them not, nor heard them spoken; they fell deep into her heart and soul, softer and more caressing than the over-shadowing wing of a mother-dove, sweeter and more thrilling than the last high notes of a violin, and they were these -- love, most potent, most tyrannical, and most gentle of the passions which sway the human mind."

The bride and groom have some personal words they would like to share now.

Devon: From the very first moment that I saw you, I wanted you. And I tried to dismiss that feeling, and I thought it would pass, but instead, the wanting grew. Then I told myself that i disapproved of you, and I used every opportunity to criticize you, but really... what I was doing was, without realizing it, creating more opportunities to be near you. Because I wanted you. And that wanting continued to grow to the point where I tried to convince myself that I hated you, but in reality, what i really hated was the fact that my wanting had turned to needing. I needed you. And when that happened, it turned out that you wanted and you needed me, too. So I ran. I ran because of love. As much as I wanted to deny it, pretend like it wasn't there, it was always there. It was inevitable from the very beginning. From that very first moment.

Hilary?

Hilary: Ditto.

[ Laughter ]

Hilary: Just this -- after you ran...

[ Chuckles ] You came back. Despite all the things that I did to push you away, you didn't just let me back in. You welcomed me. And you gave me the gift of a child. We got to have our family. Even just for a little while. Even when I didn't know it... you're the one I want. And you're the one I need. You're my love. And you will be for every single moment yet to come.

Devon: I, devon, take you, hilary, to be my lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do us part.

Hilary?

Hilary: I, hilary, take you, devon, to be my lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward. For better or worse...

[ Sighs ]

Devon: It's okay. It's all right. You don't have finish them.

Hilary: No, I want to. For richer or poorer... in sickness... and in health... to love and to cherish... till death do us part.

You have the rings?

Devon: Yeah. [ Sniffles ]

Hilary: It's the eternity band you gave me years ago.

Devon: That's right. I'm glad that you held onto it. Do you remember what we said the first time we exchanged rings?

Hilary: Every word.

Devon: With this ring, I thee wed, pledging my eternal love for you.

Hilary: Like this circle, has no beginning and no end.

I now pronounce you husband and wife.
