Episode #11428 ~ Jack turns on the charm, Phyllis takes matters into her own hands, and Devon comforts Hilary.

Jack: A photograph.

Kyle: Is that grandma?

Jack: It is.

Kyle: The guy next to her -- that's not john abbott, is it?

Jack: No. But I know him.

Devon: Hilary and I won't just be co-parenting this child. We are back together. As a couple.

Victoria: I didn't realize that you and arturo were dating.

Abby: Well, we were, and then we weren't, thanks to some unwanted meddling. And now we are again.

Nick: Marry me, sharon.

Sharon: I didn't -- I mean, it just -- I was not expecting this. At all.

Nick: [ Chuckles ] That is not the answer I was expecting.

Sharon: I don't know what else to say. This is the very last thing that I thought I would hear today.

Nick: Yeah, it's a surprise. And it's a big deal.

Sharon: It's an extremely big deal! There's just so much to consider!

Nick: Yeah, there's a lot of logistics to work out, and we can do that. After you say yes. So do that, please. Say yes.

Sharon: I just had no idea that you were even thinking along these lines. I mean, marriage? Wow! That's just so...

Nick: Incredible? Inevitable. Permanent. All of the above.

Sharon: I need to think about this.

Hilary: Ugh.

Mariah: So, I was thinking about tomorrow's show, and the humor segment -- what's wrong?

Hilary: Ugh, that smell. God, get it away from me.

Mariah: Seriously? Since when does the aroma of freshly brewed -- oh. Sorry. I get it. Morning sickness. Okay. How bad is it?

Hilary: Nothing that I can't handle. But whatever you do, just don't tell devon, okay? This pregnancy, it's supposed to be picture-perfect. And me having nausea and vomiting does not fit the bill.

Mariah: Okay, fine. But if you're still feeling under the weather tomorrow, i can take over hosting. I don't mind flying solo for a show, and the fans are obsessed with your pregnancy, so I'm sure they'd be cool with it.

Hilary: You are always so eager to push me aside, huh? Thanks, but no thanks.

Mariah: I was just trying to help.

Hilary: Yeah, help me right out of a job, you mean.

Mariah: Okay. Let's talk about this later when you're feeling a bit better. I have some calls to return, so I'm gonna go.

Phyllis: What exactly did i walk in on?

Jack: So there, underneath her other treasures was another key.

Ashley: Not to another motel.

Jack: No, this one opened a safe deposit box at city trust and savings.

Ashley: What was in it?

Jack: Nothing. Well, not nothing. There was an old photo of dina in there with katherine chancellor and phillip chancellor at a country club event.

Ashley: Okay, I think I know where this is headed, and I know that our mother was not shy about her affairs. Do you honestly think she'd go after her best friend's husband? Could our mother be that callous?

Jack: There was a date stamped on the photo, roughly the time that I was conceived. At that time, katherine was still married to gary reynolds. Phillip was single, making him fair game for dina.

Ashley: Jack, that's a lot of assumptions.

Jack: Based on facts we know.

Ashley: So what are you saying? You think phillip chancellor is your father?

Hilary: I swear, mariah will find any excuse to undermine me.

Phyllis: Or you could be feeling lousy and just be overreacting a wee bit.

Hilary: Okay, don't you start, too, okay? I am not the type of woman who gets morning sickness.

Phyllis: Hate to break it to you, but it kind of comes along with the territory.

Hilary: [ Sighs ] I just -- I don't want to devon to see me like this.

Phyllis: Honey, calm down, all right? You're not together 24/7.

Hilary: You haven't heard the big news? Devon and I are back together. For real.

Phyllis: Oh, congratulations. Good! I know how much you wanted this.

Hilary: Yeah, which is why i don't want him to know how crummy I feel, okay? Devon should be seeing me glowing and not turning green and throwing up.

Phyllis: Listen to me, my girlfriend. Morning sickness comes with the package. Now, I know that you are a perfectionist, but this is one of the times that you just have to accept things the way they are. It's okay to ask for help, especially from the baby's father.

Hilary: Okay. If I need help, I will ask.

Abby: Well, look, I can see why you think phillip chancellor fathered you. The pieces fit.

Jack: And why would someone hide a photo in a bank vault if it wasn't significant?

Ashley: Katherine was in that photo, too. Maybe she kept it because of her.

Jack: So why not put it in an album or in a frame if it's that innocuous?

Abby: It is mysterious when you think about it.

Ashley: You have to be very careful how you discuss this and with whom. Because this will not just affect the abbotts. It affects the chancellors. I mean, if phillip chancellor is your father, that means that phillip chancellor iii is your brother and chance is your nephew.

Jack: I understand why you're concerned. You went through a similar situation. But it isn't the same thing.

Ashley: How so?

Jack: When you found out that john abbott was not your father, you also learned the brent davis was. I mean, you had a big question answered. I'm not saying it wasn't traumatic, but I have no idea who my biological father is, if he's alive -- if he is, where is he? Do I want to know him, or do i want to avoid him all together?

Ashley: I can see this is eating you up.

Jack: I'll feel a whole lot better after I talk to mother, depending on how lucid she is.

Abby: What kind of day is dina having?

Ashley: It's pretty good, actually. She recognized me, at least, before she took a nap.

Jack: I'm not gonna let her rest any longer. I need some answers to some questions.

Mariah: Hi!

Sharon: Thanks for meeting me.

Mariah: Yeah. I was already here, and you said it was important.

Sharon: It is.

Mariah: Is this about victor gaining custody of christian?

Sharon: Yes, and no. Just -- something happened, something totally out of the blue. Nick proposed.

Mariah: What? Well, congrat-- wait. If nick just proposed to you, what are you doing here with me?

Sharon: It's complicated.

Mariah: Yeah, obviously. I'm sorry, isn't this what you've been praying for? Didn't you want to get remarried?

Sharon: When nick and I got back together, yes, I hoped that it would eventually lead to something more permanent.

Mariah: So what's the hangup?

Sharon: I'm not sure that nick's doing this for the right reasons.

Phyllis: Hey!

Nick: Hey.

Phyllis: I wasn't expecting to run into you again today.

Nick: Yeah. Have you, uh, seen vick? Her office told me she might be here.

Phyllis: No. Sorry.

Nick: Damn it.

Phyllis: [ Sighs ] I assume you wanted to talk to her about christian. That whole mess. Eh, look, I am not victoria, but I don't have any more appointments for the rest of the day. You can talk to me if you'd like.

Nick: You might be sorry you offered that.

Phyllis: Try me.

Nick: I asked sharon to marry me, and she didn't say yes or no.

Sharon: When victor took his son away, it changed nick.

Mariah: Yeah, he was devastated.

Sharon: It's more than that. He's fired up in a way that i have never seen before. He's determined to take control of his life and protect everything that's his, not let his father beat him ever again.

Mariah: Good for him! Victor walks all over his kids constantly, so I would love to see nick stand up to him. Push back for a change.

Sharon: Be careful what you wish for. I've gone to war with victor, and it's a miracle that i survived.

Mariah: So what's the issue? You're afraid that nick is gonna get crushed? You'll be collateral damage?

Sharon: No. I mean, I suppose that could happen, but that's not the reason why I'm hesitating.

Mariah: Okay, you lost me.

Sharon: Nick is focused on getting christian back. He believes that having a wife would look good to the courts. The trouble is, I would be the wife, and the arbitrator does not think it's in christian's best interest to have me in the picture. A little fact that nick seems to be ignoring.

Mariah: Right, because he loves you and believes in you, sharon. He wants you to help him create a stable home for your kids, and if you ask me, I think that's pretty great.

Sharon: I just don't know if it's realistic.

Mariah: Look, the ruling is temporary. Eventually, a social worker is gonna have to come and make a full evaluation. When she does, she's gonna have to interview faith and me. I mean, that's got to help nick's case.

Sharon: True.

Mariah: So why don't you trust his instincts and your heart and just go for it?

Sharon: Where did all of this sudden support come from? When I offered nick and christian a place to stay, you were adamantly against it.

Mariah: You're right. I was. Because I thought that you would fall for him and he wouldn't reciprocate. But that's not what happened. You seem happier than you have been in ages. And for the first time in my entire life, I feel like i actually belong to a family. So if I can nudge you in nick's direction, well, that is exactly what I'm gonna do. Especially if it helps you guys get christian back.

Abby: So, on my way over here, an idea popped in my head.

Ashley: Sounds dangerous.

Abby: Suppose I were to move back here in this house. Do you think everyone would be cool with that? I mean, I really enjoyed living with dina in paris, and I don't know how much time we're gonna have left with her. I want to treasure every moment I have with my grandmother.

Ashley: Honey! It's wonderful! Are you kidding?

Abby: Oh, good! [ Laughs ]

Ashley: Oh, my god, I'd love to have you back here. Everybody would love it.

Abby: Oh, great.

Ashley: It's a great idea.

Abby: Thank you.

Ashley: You're welcome. Are you kidding?

Abby: Yeah, I mean, besides getting to spend more time with everyone, it'll be nice to leave the ranch and get some distance from the newmans. One newman in particular.

Ashley: What'd your dad do now?

Abby: It's a long story, but basically, dad's been treating nick like crap -- that's nothing new -- and then he's been harassing arturo because he's dating me.

Ashley: Hey.

Abby: Did dina remember anything?

Jack: Nothing. She's back to thinking I'm john, which isn't helping matters.

Ashley: Well, maybe you can try again later when she's a little more "with it."

Jack: Yeah, maybe.

Ashley: Would it help to hear some great news? Abby's moving back here with the rest of us.

Jack: And out of the ranch? I think that's fantastic. Brilliant, abby.

Ashley: Any chance you might follow suit?

Abby: Come on, uncle jack. Please. Pretty please!

Jack: You know, I'm in no frame of mind to live in the abbott house. I got to figure out who I am, or I can't move forward.

[ Door unlocks ]

Devon: Hey, you.

Hilary: Hey! I thought you had a meeting.

Devon: I pushed it to tomorrow. Did you get my message?

Hilary: Uh, yeah, you wanted me to come home right after work so we could talk.

Devon: Mm-hmm.

Hilary: Something wrong?

Devon: Uh, you tell me.

Hilary: Um, no, I can't think of anything. Ugh, other than mariah being such a pill.

Devon: No, no, this has nothing to do with mariah or the show or anything work-related, actually. Um, I wanted you to move back in here so we can experience your pregnancy together.

Hilary: Yeah.

Devon: So if you're having morning sickness, why am i hearing it from phyllis in a text?

Hilary: Um...

Jack: Before I take off, how is billy doing at jabot? Is kyle talking about it much?

Ashley: Uh, now that I'm at newman, we try not to talk about work too much.

Jack: Come on, you must have heard something.

Ashley: Birthday suit made a big splash. In fact, the plant had to add a third shift.

Jack: A nude stunt on live television -- I never would have come up with that, but then maybe that's good reason for billy to be running things there.

Ashley: Jack, he had a couple quick wins. Good for him. It doesn't mean long-term success. In fact, knowing our brother, I'd probably bet against him.

Jack: You think he'll revert to type?

Ashley: Isn't that what he does? Billy gets bored. That's when the trouble starts.

Jack: Well, I wish him all the luck.

Ashley: You know, don't be a stranger, okay?

Jack: I'll do my best. Hey! I hope I'm not interrupting. Am I? Good. Any chance you could join me for a drink? I'd love to pick your brain about something.

Abby: Dina seems worn out today.

Ashley: Yeah, she has been sleeping a little bit more than usual lately.

Abby: That's what her nurse just said. You know what, I'm glad I'm gonna be around, help keep things cheerful. I think that's what my grandmother needs.

Ashley: Definitely. So... arturo.

Abby: What about him?

Ashley: Well, if your father doesn't want you dating him, then you must be doing something right.

Abby: [ Chuckles ] That's one way to look at it.

Ashley: Is it serious?

Abby: I have no idea where it's going, but I like him, and I want to give it a shot. Maybe have a little fun this summer.

Ashley: Oh! That makes me happy. I'm glad that you're excited, that you're taking things slowly, and you're leaving yourself open but not too vulnerable.

Abby: You know, there's a dance party tonight at the club. I'm supposed to meet arturo. Why don't you come so you can meet him?

Ashley: Okay. I'd love that. Although, if you want to introduce me to your new squeeze, it might be a little bit more serious than you think.

"The young and the restless" will continue.

Mariah: So, did I give you enough time?

Sharon: I'm sorry, what?

Mariah: You were making a list of pros and cons -- reasons to marry nick, reasons to not.

Sharon: Oh, I did that.

Mariah: And?

Sharon: For every pro, like how great it would be for faith, I can come up with just as big of a con. Like what if it meant the courts wouldn't ever give us christian back?

Mariah: So what you're saying is...?

Sharon: It's a wash. It's no help to me at all.

Phyllis: I've seen this movie before, and it doesn't end well. Tell me why you think this time will be different.

Nick: Well, sharon and I have matured. We're in a much better place now. And I'm not gonna let anyone, especially my dad, tell me who i can marry.

Phyllis: What about christian? I mean, isn't sharon's emotional instability the reason you lost custody?

Nick: Temporarily. Once the social worker meets with all the parties and writes a full report...

Phyllis: Doesn't that argue against this huge change in your status?

Nick: Well, can an argument be made that an engaged couple presents a stronger case and shows that you are committed to our family?

Phyllis: Who are you trying to convince here? Me, or yourself?

Hilary: I didn't keep this from you to upset you.

[ Scoffs ] I didn't want you seeing me sick to my stomach or, god forbid, throwing up. I want our having a baby to be idyllic. Something intimate and sacred. Like the night that you asked me to move into your bedroom and we made love. It was romantic, and I want every moment of this pregnancy to be like that.

Devon: That's the silliest thing I've ever heard.

Arturo: Hello there, beautiful.

Abby: Hey! Mwah! I have a special surprise for you.

Arturo: So I see.

Abby: Ashley abbott, this is arturo rosales. Arturo, this is my mother.

Arturo: Ms. Abbott, what a pleasure.

Ashley: Likewise. Please call me ashley.

Arturo: Thanks. Will do. And I'm arturo.

Ashley: Yeah.

[ Laughter ]

Arturo: If I'd known I was meeting your mom, I would have dressed up.

Abby: Oh, you look fab just the way you are.

Arturo: [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: So, how'd you two meet?

Arturo: It was right downstairs, actually.

Abby: I was all by myself and very upset, and a man I didn't know was kind to me.

Arturo: I just don't like to see anyone upset. All I did was listen.

Ashley: Sometimes that's enough.

Arturo: Hey, why don't you ladies find us a table, and I'll get us some drinks?

Ashley: Okay.

Arturo: What would you like?

Abby: Surprise us. Something fun and summery.

Arturo: Okay. I'll see what I can do.

Ashley: Thank you. Okay, so he makes a very, very nice first impression.

Abby: Doesn't he, though?

Ashley: Yes, he does.

Abby: [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: I can't forget about that arrangement he had with nikki, though. I mean, she is old enough to be his mother.

Abby: [ Coughs ] Ravi.

Ashley: You're funny. Seriously, you sure about his motives?

Abby: What does that mean?

Ashley: Positive he's not after your name and your money?

Abby: Like zack was?

[ Sighs ] Yes, I was burned. Bad. And I was a little leery at first, but the more time I spend with arturo, it feels like he's one of the good guys.

Jack: Thank you for meeting me on such short notice.

Esther: Well, you could have knocked me over with a feather when my phone rang and I saw it was you.

Jack: What can I get you to drink?

Esther: White wine, please.

Jack: Your finest chardonnay for the lady, and I'll have my usual.

Esther: [ Chuckles ] Okay, tell me why I'm here.

Jack: I was hoping you'd take a little walk with me down memory lane.

Esther: Hmm, sounds intriguing.

Jack: Yeah, I have a few questions about the past. I was hoping you might be able to fill me in on some missing details.

Jack: Thank you.

Esther: Thank you.

Phyllis: Talk about the odd couple.

Nick: Still nothing.

Phyllis: Oh, sharon said that she needed time to think, which proves she is smarter than i have given her credit for.

Nick: What's that supposed to mean?

Phyllis: Not that you aren't a total catch, but if a woman is being this gun-shy, shouldn't that maybe tell you something?

Nick: Like what?

Phyllis: That there may be some very good valid reasons that she might be afraid of jumping back in again. Do I need to spell this out for you? You cheated on her, nick. She should definitely think twice about marrying you. I mean, what if it happens again?

Nick: Like...with you?

Phyllis: I'm not talking about us, but I'm just saying at some point down the road, history repeats itself with whomever... I mean, all three of us have had the history of stepping out on our partners. And, yes, I get it. Sometimes it's hard. It is so hard to be faithful, but, you know, when the other partner finds out, which they almost always do, it is cataclysmic.

Nick: Well, look, I wouldn't be expecting to go into a marriage, you know, thinking I'm gonna cheat. Nor would sharon.

Phyllis: But stuff happens, right? Then what? Look, it's why billy and i haven't rushed into marriage, okay? Don't get me wrong, I am so wild about the guy, but.. you know, I worry that I'm gonna mess up something good, you know? And maybe you should, too.

Nick: Worry?

Phyllis: Just contemplate. Reflect. Take a step back and look at this from every angle. You are making a huge life decision that could affect a lot of people. Maybe just this one time you should follow sharon's lead.

Sharon: My life, it's already complete. I have what I want, and I want what I have. A comfortable home, a loving family.

Mariah: Yeah, and you have nick, who wants to spend the rest of his life making you happy. I mean, your cup runneth over, and here you are agonizing about it. I don't get it.

Sharon: If I married him again, maybe it would be wonderful, or maybe I would end up like victoria. She thought her second chance with J.T. Was a chance at happily-ever-after, and look how things turned out for her. She wishes that he never came back to town. Maybe I should learn from her mistake.

Mariah: First of all, nick is not J.T. He would never abuse you or intentionally hurt you. And, second, that was their relationship. You can't make big decisions about your life based on somebody else'S.

Sharon: So how do I decide?

Mariah: Okay, maybe just toss out all of this analytical junk. What do you want? Look, I took a gigantic swing with tessa, and I missed, and, yes, it hurt like hell, but you know what, at least I tried. And not to sound like a cheesy pop song, but isn't that the thing they call "living?" And look, I don't want to get sappy. I can't believe I'm about to say this, but maybe it's not sappy if it's just true. Because I am so unbelievably proud of you. You have transformed yourself from a victim into a heroine. My heroine. I look up to you, sharon. I admire you. More than you will ever, ever know.

Sharon: Really?

Mariah: Of course. I mean, you said it yourself. Look at how many changes you have made, and you did that yourself. Nobody helped. Also, I didn't say this when you and nick were planning on moving to san diego because I wanted to be an unselfish daughter, but i would have been super bummed at the thought of you and nick moving because, in case you haven't noticed, you're not just my mom. You've become my best friend. So if marrying nick is what is gonna make you happy, then I am telling you -- grab him. And don't let go.

[ Laughs ]

Jack: Not many people outside of the family know this, but my mother has alzheimer'S.

Esther: Jill told me. I'm so sorry, jack. It's got to be really rough on you and your family.

Jack: Oh, it is a cruel disease. Worst part is, this bright, vibrant, accomplished, sophisticated woman, day by day, is being robbed of her identity.

Esther: I'm really glad that mrs. C. Isn't here to see this as she so enjoyed her friendship with dina.

Jack: Actually, that's why i wanted to talk to you. My mother has good days and bad. Ashley and I are trying to chronicle her life, and we're having a little trouble distinguishing between fact and fiction.

Esther: Well, how can I help, jack?

Jack: My mother recently suggested that she had an affair with phillip chancellor before he was married to katherine.

Esther: Oh, my. Um... well, "suggested," so you don't really know if that's true or not.

Jack: I was hoping that maybe you knew something about this, or that you heard katherine mention something about it.

Esther: Mr. Chancellor passed away before I started working for mrs. C. But she did love to talk about their marriage.

Jack: Esther, katherine wasn't faithful in her marriage, now, obviously, neither was phillip.

Esther: Well, you're talking about jill.

Jack: Well, that's one affair that he had that we know about. Did katherine maybe mention any others? Look, these days, my mother's mind gets fixated on things. Right now, she is obsessed with phillip chancellor. Anything you could tell me, any facts you could give me we could use to calm her down, to help her, and it would be truly appreciated.

Esther: You know, I have to be honest, jack. This is the first that I've heard about anything like this. Not that that means anything either way. Mrs. C. Did confide in me quite a bit, but there was just certain things I was not privy to.

Jack: I see.

Esther: Wait, maybe her stepson phillip or his son chance -- possibly they might know something.

Jack: That's a great idea. Do you have contact information for them?

Esther: I do. I do. Hang on. Hang on.

Jack: Excellent.

Esther: Oh, crud. I just remembered.

Jack: What?

Esther: Phillip and chance are on a trek through the himalayas. It's a father-son vacation. They won't be reachable for 2 months.

Jack: [ Sighs ]

Abby: To warm, fun summer nights with two of my favorite people.

Arturo: Cheers.

Abby: Cheers! [ Chuckles ]

Ashley: I'll drink to that.

Abby: You know what this song reminds me of?

Arturo: What?

Abby: Miami.

Arturo: Ooh!

Abby: [ Giggles ]

Ashley: You guys, I've been taking some latin dance classes lately.

Abby: No! Get out! How fun!

Ashley: You should come with me! It is fun!

Abby: Arturo is a great dancer. Hey, why don't you guys get out there together so my mom can show off her moves?

Ashley: Oh, no. No, no, no...

Arturo: Last time I danced with another woman in this place, I would up with a drink over my head.

Abby: Mm, it was a misunderstanding, one that should be forgotten. Come on, please, just dance with my mom. I want to see her moves!

Ashley: Okay, look, I'm game if you are. Let's just do it.

Arturo: Let's show 'em how it's done.

Abby: Yeah!

Arturo: Let's do it. Let's do it.

Abby: [ Giggles ]

Ashley: All right.

Arturo: You ready?

Devon: You feeling any better?

Hilary: A little.

Devon: Yeah?

Hilary: Mm-hmm.

Devon: You know, they say that ginger root tea is also a good remedy.

Hilary: Oh. Well, then you are in charge of making me feel less icky.

Devon: Listen, I know that most of this pregnancy falls on your shoulders, but I want to be a part of every moment. Even the unpleasant moments. And, yes, that means when you're throwing up. If you're gonna be sick, I want to be the one to hold your hair back and get you soda crackers or ice cream and pickles. Whatever you may need. I understand that being pregnant and having a baby, it's -- it's messy. It could be smelly, it could be dirty. It could be all of that. We're gonna be changing diapers one day, you know? It's not all teddy bears and little baby booties. And, to be honest, I'm looking forward to the mess because it will be our mess, from our baby, and that sounds amazing to me. So I want to look out for you. If you're in a good mood, that's great, but if you're scared or if you're upset or...

Hilary: Or a bitch on wheels.

Devon: If you're that, too, yes, I will be there for you. Right up until the day our baby is born, and after when we become parents together.

Ashley: Yay!

Abby: Oh, my gosh, that was fantastic!

Ashley: Thank you. Thank you.

Abby: You guys were great!

Arturo: I could teach you how to dance salsa, merengue, reguetóN...

Abby: I would love that.

Ashley: He is a fantastic dancer. What a keeper.

Abby: [ Laughs ] Is it time for another drink?

Ashley: Sure! Something cold, please.

Abby: Frozen margarita?

Ashley: Mm-hmm.

Abby: What about you? Another beer?

Arturo: Let me get them.

Abby: No, no. It's okay. Keep my mom company. I will be back in a jiff.

Ashley: Well, that was fun.

Arturo: Yeah.

Nikki: I saw arturo dancing with ashley. I wasn't aware they knew each other.

Abby: I just introduced them.

Nikki: Wow. The man works fast. Can't believe he's bored with you already. Maybe your mother will be his next conquest.

Abby: Could you be more transparent?

Nikki: Ignore the signs at your own peril, my dear.

Abby: My mom is taking salsa lessons. I'm the one who encouraged them to get out there and strut their stuff. I can't help it if that makes you want gnash your teeth and start wailing.

Nikki: If you're implying that I'm jealous --

Abby: Oh, no. No, I'm not implying anything. I'm saying it loud and clear, in plain english. You can't stand the fact that arturo is with me. So seeing him dance with your biggest rival, that must have put you right over the edge.

Nikki: You know, it wasn't just a fling with us, abby. There were feelings involved, on both sides. Now, if he had moved on to a woman that I didn't know, i would have been fine with that. But to date my step-daughter? And then dance like that with ashley? That'S...really too much.

Abby: You really cared about him. How sweet. He is a lovely guy, isn't he? None of which stopped you from your information dump on me. Trying to embarrass arturo, trying to break us up. Too bad it didn't work. And fyi -- there's nothing that you or my dad could do or say that's gonna stop me from dating him. Hi! Can I have two frozen margaritas and a beer?

Phyllis: Boy, you look like a million miles away from here.

Jack: You're not far off.

Phyllis: You know, I am meeting billy here for dinner, but I'm a few minutes early. Do you want to talk?

Jack: That the offer you made nick?

Phyllis: Ah, yes, I'm running a two-for-one special. I'm lending my ex-husbands a sympathetic ear.

Jack: My lucky day.

Phyllis: So, start talking, the meter's running. What has you so deep in thought?

Jack: I am determined to find out who my biological father is, and my mother is not being much help these days.

Phyllis: I can't imagine. How have you gone about the search?

Jack: Piecemeal. The only concrete thing I have is that mother met this man at the country club. Doesn't exactly narrow the field, does it?

Phyllis: No, I suppose not.

Jack: I also have an old photo of her that she kept in a safe deposit box for many years. It's of her and katherine and phillip at a country club event. There was a date stamped on the photo. Ninth months before I was born, give or take. There's got to be some reason that she held onto the photo for all those years.

Phyllis: Wow. Dina and phillip. Katherine's phillip?

Jack: Well, he wasn't then. The time that that photo was taken, katherine was still with gary reynolds. Phillip was a free agent. So was my mother, at least in her mind.

Phyllis: Look, if you really think that there's something to this, you should look up phillip iii. Or chance. See if they're open to a dna test.

Jack: I already thought of that. Unfortunately, the two of them are off the grid traveling somewhere for the next couple of months. But it's a solid lead.

Phyllis: All right, well, i guess you're just gonna have to sit tight until they get back. It's not like you can go after the elder phillip, you know, ask a man who's been dead 40 years and ask him for a cheek swab.

Nick: Hey.

Sharon: Hey.

Nick: Where have you been?

Sharon: I had coffee with mariah. We had a good talk. What about you?

Nick: Went to find vick, ran into phyllis instead.

Sharon: Let me guess -- she thought proposing to me was a terrible idea and she tried to talk you out of it.

Nick: You know, it's like you were there!

Sharon: [ Laughing ] I just know how her mind works!

Nick: Well, just know that i left there more convinced than ever that I'm doing the right thing by asking you to marry me.

Sharon: Why, nick? Why now?

Nick: You know, I could give you a whole long list of practical reasons as to why we should do this. I know you don't want to hear that. So how about if I just tell you what my heart is saying? I love you. And I can't imagine my life without you in it. I feel like we're supposed to be together. I want to honor that feeling by making you my wife again. Look, when I'm with you, I feel renewed and re-energized like never before. I want to make some very big changes in my life, and I want you by my side when I do that. You're the most important person in the world to me, and I want everyone to know that. Those are some of the "me" reasons. And the list of "you" reasons, it'S... there's, like, too many to count, but... there's just so many things i want to do with you and for you. I want to make you feel special and loved and appreciated the way you deserve. I want to be the guy who is with you when amazing things happen, and I also want to be there to console you when you're having your worst day. And there's so many more, but i figure I better shut up, otherwise, you're never gonna get a chance to say yes.

Sharon: What are gonna do if I say no?

Nick: Uh, well, if you say no, then that's just another obstacle, and I will not quit until overcome it. I'm gonna go after what I want in life. I'm gonna make it happen. That's my new M.O.

Sharon: Are you sure that you're not just doing this to spite victor or phyllis?

Nick: I've never been more sure about anything in my life.

Sharon: In that case... yes. Yes, I will marry you.
