Nick: This could be my last chance to get back into the family firm. My last chance to do something that could benefit the entire family.

Victoria: Things change.

Tessa: I love you, and who knows what will happen in the future, but for now, friends is what we are.

Billy: We had a little disagreement about a low-selling perfume, all right? We don't have to blow this thing up.

Jack: Our problems go much deeper than just a perfume. Kyle feels the same way. Isn't that right, son?

Kyle: Uh, dad, I'm not quitting. I can'T.

Hilary: Maybe you're a teensy-weensy bit excited to be auntie lily for the first time.

Lily: [ Scoffs ]

Hilary: Keep it up. You'll be throwing me a baby shower soon.

Neil: Hey, hey, hey!

Devon: Hey.

Neil: What do you think?

Devon: I think it looks great.

Neil: You think? What's up with you? That was very unenthusiastic. What's happening?

Devon: I'm sorry, neil, but we have a real big problem right now.

Neil: What's our real big problem?

Devon: Well, we might have to call this whole thing off.

Faith: You guys look so serious.

Sharon: Um, well, we want to talk to you about something.

Faith: What's wrong? Is it grandpa?

Nick: No. No. Grandpa's fine. Everyone's fine. This is good news.

Sharon: Really good. Your dad and I are back together!

Faith: What?

Nick: Yeah. We're a couple.

Faith: No, you can't be. It'll ruin everything.

Jack: You can't avoid me forever.

Kyle: Dad, I wasn't avoiding you.

Jack: You owe me an explanation, kyle.

Kyle: I don't want to be late to the hamilton-winters barbecue.

Jack: You and I agreed. We were gonna leave our jobs at jabot and start a new cosmetics company together.

Kyle: We didn't agree to anything. You assumed I would go along with your plan. It's not my fault you were wrong. That's on you.

Devon: No, I understand that it's a holiday, but I'm willing to pay double or triple the price.

Neil: I'll take whatever you got, I don't care. Skeleton crew, a couple people.

Devon: I understand. Is there anyone that you can recommend?

Neil: Are you sure?

Devon: That's fine. Thank you.

Neil: Let me know if you have any cancellations at all. Thanks. Appreciate it.

Devon: [ Sighs ]

Hilary: Those do not look like the faces of two people who are about to reap the benefit of a huge pr event.

Devon: Well, that's because it's about to be a huge pr disaster.

Hilary: What's wrong?

Neil: Catering crew canceled.

Hilary: Why?

Devon: Flu.

Hilary: What? And it knocked out the entire staff?

Devon: Apparently. Sounds like a bad excuse to me.

Neil: Because it is.

Hilary: Okay, well, what about downstairs? Can't one of your people on your staff -- can't they fill in?

Devon: I gave most of the people the day off today 'cause it's a holiday. I got a couple people manning the bar downstairs. One's out getting hamburgers and hot dogs right now, and two people are serving drinks up here.

Neil: People, people. No, this is not good at all.

Devon: Well, I don't know what we're gonna 'cause we've called everybody.

Hilary: Okay, okay. Breathe. I think I have the perfect solution to your problem.

Victoria: Hi, kyle.

Kyle: Hey, victoria.

Victoria: It's a beautiful day for an outdoor event. Especially after all the snow and rain that we've had.

Kyle: It was a brutal winter.

Victoria: Yeah, I know. My kids are really looking forward to summer vacation.

Kyle: [ Sighs ] Kicking back for three months? I miss that.

Victoria: Mm-hmm. I know. Well, it's lucky you got the day off. It sounds like things are pretty hectic over at jabot with billy in charge now.

Kyle: Eh, not really.

Victoria: No? Well, it was kind of sudden. Billy replacing jack as C.E.O.

Kyle: You know how it is. One day you're in, the next day you're out.

Victoria: Yeah, that's true. I just never expected that jack would be the one to be out. What happened?

Kyle: Surprised billy didn't fill you in.

Victoria: Oh, well, I'm sure that he will.

Kyle: You know, a big job, running a major corporation.

Victoria: Yes, and very fulfilling, which is why I'm surprised that jack would give it up so easily. Turning over the reins to billy, of all people.

Kyle: I'm sure you've heard the gossip.

Victoria: Well, I prefer to get the facts from a reliable source. What are you doing there?

Kyle: Showing you the same respect you showed me, treating me like a minor leaguer at an all-star game. If you want to keep digging for dirt, you'll have to join me in the pool.

Hilary: Neil doesn't trust me.

Devon: That's because you haven't told us your idea.

Hilary: Wow! That was quick.

Mariah: Yeah, we were at the hamilton-winters office when you summoned us.

Tessa: I was doing a run-through of my performance today.

Hilary: Okay, good. Good. I'm glad that you weren't busy.

Mariah: Yeah, nothing important, just living our lives.

Hilary: Well, this is important.

Devon: Why don't you tell us what it's about?

Hilary: Okay, devon. Meet your grill cooks.

Mariah: Uh, I'm sorry, what?

Tessa: What?

Mariah: You called us here to flip burgers?

Hilary: The caterers, they canceled at the last minute, and who better to fill in, right?

Mariah: Other caterers.

Hilary: You don't think that we thought of that?

Devon: It's a holiday. Everybody's booked. But, hilary, I don't want them to have to --

Hilary: No, no, no. I'm sure that tessa and mariah would love to help out. Besides, it's for the good of the company.

Tessa: I do owe you for letting me sing today.

Hilary: Great. See? Tessa is in. Now, what about you, mariah, hmm? Can you give up bikinis and booze to help out a friend? Don't be selfish.

Mariah: That's hilarious coming from you.

Hilary: Are you in, or are you not?

Mariah: Fine. I'll do it. On one condition. You pitch in, as well. For the good of the company.

Devon: I don't want to force anybody to do anything they don't want to do, okay?

Hilary: No, no, no, no, no. So, what are you saying? That you'll do it if I do it?

Mariah: Mm-hmm. That's the deal.

Hilary: All right, let's get to work.

Mariah: Wait, seriously?

Hilary: Yeah, I am doing my patriotic duty.

Mariah: Yeah, and I'm betsy ross. Okay, let's go find some aprons.

Hilary: What?

Devon: Nothing. Nothing. This patriot duty looks good on you.

Hilary: Hmm, well, it's gonna look even better on you.

Devon: What do you mean?

Hilary: You didn't think that you were gonna get out of this, did you?

Devon: [ Chuckles ]

Faith: Like I was all the other times you told me you were getting back together?

Sharon: Right. This isn't the first time we've done this.

Faith: More like the gazillionth, and I always think this time will be the last, but it never is. You guys break up, move onto other people. It happens over and over.

Nick: We have put you through a lot. We never meant to hurt you.

Faith: I know. And, honestly, I think you and mom are great together.

Sharon: You do?

Faith: As friends. That's something that can last. But the two of you as a couple, it doesn't work.

Nick: So, what are you saying?

Faith: We can't be a family the way you want and be happy. I'm sick of pretending we can.

Neil: I don't think you guys have any idea what you're in for.

Devon: We're just making a few hamburgers and hot dogs. It's not that bad.

Neil: More than a few, you know. The rsvps have doubled in the last hour.

Devon: Well, how did that happen?

Mariah: Well, maybe because somebody posted on social media that she was gonna be posing for pictures while honoring our military.

Tessa: Not at all self-serving.

Hilary: We are gonna need more plates and napkins.

Mariah: Okay. That's you.

Tessa: Well, I'll get right on that.

Kyle: Hey! Looks like it's your lucky day.

Tessa: I should go buy a lottery ticket.

Kyle: You're already a winner. You get to share a meal with me after all.

Tessa: Oh, no, I'm gonna have to turn you down. Again.

Kyle: Ouch.

Tessa: I'm sorry to bruise your ego, but I'm pulling double duty today as a food server-slash-entertainer.

Kyle: Multi-talented. I'm impressed. And still not giving up. Unless I'm fighting a losing battle. You seeing somebody?

Tessa: Nope. Totally single. And, no offense to your fine pecks, but... I probably shouldn't date a friend of mariah'S. Later.

Kyle: Mariah. Huh.

Charlie: Mattie! Come on.

Lily: Uh, what's going on here? Why are you guys doing the cooking?

Devon: Because the caterers canceled and no one was available.

Mariah: Eat at your own risk.

Lily: [ Chuckles ]

Hilary: Don't listen to her.

Lily: You know, what I think you guys are doing is great, and for a really good cause, too.

Mariah: Yeah. We're real patriots, right, hilary?

Hilary: Don't you have some cole slaw to put out?

Hilary: Hey, so, charlie, how was the prom? Did you and shauna have a good time?

Charlie: Eh, you know, it was okay.

Mattie: Okay enough for charlie to invite shauna to the barbecue today.

Charlie: Shut up, mattie.

Hilary: Tell me everything! Do you have pictures?

Charlie: A few.

Hilary: Show me.

Charlie: Seriously?

Hilary: Yes, seriously! Come over here.

Charlie: Here.

Hilary: Aww! Look at the two of you. You guys look so adorable.

[ Gasps ] It looks like you guys had so much fun.

Charlie: Yeah, we had a pretty dope night, thanks to you.

Lily: I thought the prom episode on "the hilary hour" was devon's idea.

Charlie: Yeah, it was, but, you know, hilary made sure everything was perfect on prom night. She pulled all the right strings.

Lily: Well, that's her specialty.

Faith: [ Sighs deeply ] Are you mad at me?

Nick: No, we're not mad at you.

Sharon: Not at all. We're happy you were honest with us.

Faith: But you're still getting back together.

Nick: Look, life, families, relationship -- they can be complicated and messy.

Faith: Can't they be un-messy for once?

Nick: [ Chuckles ] It's not that easy.

Faith: It is for sara's family. Her mom and dad have been married forever. She, her brother, and her parents have all lived in the same house ever since I met her. No divorce, no step-parents. Just them. Together.

Sharon: Well, that's great, but, you know, there are --

Faith: Lots of different kinds of families. I know. Just kind of feels like I've had all of them.

Sharon: I'm so sorry for everything that we've put you through, and I know that it hasn't been easy.

Faith: Every time you guys do this, I pray it's gonna last. And it just never does.

Nick: Look, your mom and i have made a lot of mistakes, and we hate it that you've been hurt by them. But I really do think this time could be different.

Sharon: We hope that you'll give us a chance to prove that to you.

Faith: Can you promise you won't break up again?

Nick: [ Sighs ] No, we can't promise that. And we can't predict the future. But what I can tell you is that when your grandfather was hurt, it made me realize there is nothing in this world more important to me than family.

Faith: Including grandpa?

Nick: Including your grandpa. And I promise you, I'm gonna do everything I can to protect the people that I love and keep them all together.

Faith: That sounds nice.

Nick: All we're asking is that you give it a shot.

Faith: [ Sighs ] Okay.

Sharon: Great!

Nick: All right! Get in here!

Sharon: [ Chuckles ]

Faith: I should go get my swimsuit and stuff for the barbecue.

Sharon: Sure. Oh, wait! Sweetie... we love you.

Faith: I love you, too.

Mattie: I'm proud of you, mom. You kept your cool.

Lily: Yeah, it wasn't easy.

Charlie: That was a pretty awesome shot by hilary, though.

Lily: Take care of this, please. Thank you.

Charlie: [ Chuckles ]

Kyle: Hey, scorsese. See any good movies lately? Maybe ones with shocker endings that nobody saw coming?

Charlie: Look, I already told abby I feel crappy enough about what happened with ms. Mergeron's movie.

Kyle: Sticking to your story, huh? That you have no idea how dina's confession made the final cut?

Charlie: Yeah, I am 'cause i don'T. Look, the first time I saw that footage was at the premiere.

Kyle: If I find out you're lying...

Charlie: I'm not!

Kyle: Give me a break, dad.

Jack: We weren't finished.

Kyle: You want a burger? Devon's got the whole hamilton-winters team grilling.

Jack: Why didn't you tell me you had no intention of leaving jabot? That you never for one second planned on coming into business with me?

Kyle: You walked away before I could say anything.

Jack: I'm here right now.

Kyle: Fine. I did think about quitting my job and coming with you. I was all set to tell billy. But then I got hit in the face with a big dose of reality. I'm not ready to get involved with a start-up. I don't have the experience. I'm better off staying in an established company like jabot and building my corporate skills.

Jack: A "big dose of reality" -- would that one maybe be 6-foot-1 and a mustache?

Kyle: Victor had nothing to do with my decision.

Jack: Oh, you don't expect me to believe that.

Kyle: Believe what you want, dad.

Jack: He's in your head. He has been for months.

Kyle: Victor is a friend.

Jack: Victor is a viper, and he would love nothing more than to come between the two of us.

Victor: You did that all to yourself, jack.

Jack: Well, if it isn't the puppet master himself. You've outdone yourself this time. Normally, you just come after me. This time, you come after the whole abbott family and a woman with alzheimer'S. A new low, even for you.

Victor: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. I had nothing whatever to do with what happened at dina's tribute.

Jack: And you never had any intention of influencing my son, either, right?

Victor: You're still blaming others for your shortcomings. No one to blame but yourself. No matter who your father is.

Jack: You son of A...

Neil: Hey. Jack. Jack. Stop. It's not the day for that, all right?

Victor: That's right, neil. It's the day to remember those who died.

Victoria: Oh! Mom! There you are!

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart! Oh, I just stopped in the ladies' room. I miss anything?

Victoria: Just another round of dad vs. Jack.

Nikki: [ Sighs ] No punches thrown, I hope.

Victoria: No, neil stepped in before it came to that, thank goodness.

Nikki: Well, that was lucky. I don't think your father should be in any physical altercations right now.

Victoria: Is he all right?

Faith: Grandma! Hi!

Victoria: Oh!

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart! How are you? And how's my sweet boy? Hi, son.

Nick: Mom, great day for a family outing, huh?

Nikki: Yeah.

Victoria: So, what's going on with you, besides you and sharon reuniting?

Nikki: Isn't that enough?

Nick: [ Chuckles ] Actually, I have some more news to share.

Nikki: Dear lord, please don't tell us that she'S...

Neil: Can I have your attention, please? Okay, first of all, everyone looks great. Thank you for coming. Last year, hamilton-winters hosted the 4th of july barbecue. And it was such a big hit that we decided to add another holiday event to our calendar. Memorial day is more of a commemoration than it is a celebration. Today is about remembering and honoring those men and women that have died in service of their country. These brave members of the military have made the ultimate sacrifice so that you and me, that all of us can enjoy the freedoms of what we have today. So as a token of our gratitude, my company has decided to donate all of the proceeds from today's ticket sales to the families of those fallen soldiers. So eat up, enjoy the party, and remember what this day is all about, okay? Happy memorial day. Thank you. I appreciate it.

Devon: Warm burgers!

Mariah: You know, this actually isn't as bad as i thought, except for the hot and sticky part.

Tessa: Yeah, it's gonna be a great look for when I sing later.

Mariah: Are you nervous?

Tessa: Uh, a little. Actually, a lot. It's been a while since I've performed in public.

Mariah: Yeah, I guess that would be my fault.

Tessa: Stop. You know, I'm the one who stole your journal and plagiarized your words, so...

Mariah: Well, you know what they say -- "plagiarism is the highest form of flattery."

Tessa: Yeah, I don't think that's how that saying goes.

Mariah: No, it's not. It's not. But you're gonna be great, you know, just go up there, do your thing, and, uh, I'm gonna do mine.

Tessa: You're gonna cheer for me obnoxiously loud, aren't you?

Mariah: Oh, yes. So much.

Tessa: Great. Cool.

Mariah: Very hard.

Tessa: [ Exhales sharply ]

Mariah: Yeah.

Kyle: Can I get one of those?

Hilary: Sure. Can I get something from you?

Kyle: I thought you had a thing with devon.

Hilary: I want answers. What's going on with jack? And I won't ask you why he left jabot.

Kyle: Because you'd never try to dig up gossip.

Hilary: Jack is my friend. I want to make sure that he's okay.

Kyle: I could say yes. Then I'd be lying. Dad's definitely not okay.

Devon: Hey, hilary, can we get one hot dog?

Hilary: Yeah.

Devon: Thanks.

Kyle: I'll let you get back to work.

Nick: While we are all together, I have an announcement to make. I have decided to accept dad's office and come back to work at newman.

Victor: I'm glad to hear this, my son.

Victoria: Me, too!

Nikki: Are you sure about this?

Nick: Yeah, mom. I've given it a lot of thought. I've weighed all the pros and cons. The thing I kept coming back to was that we almost lost you. I was sitting in your hospital room thinking about all the things that we might not be able to do together. The things that we already missed out on. You've been given a second chance. So have I, and I'm not gonna waste it.

Victor: You won't regret your decision, son. Welcome back. Neil. Come here for a second.

Neil: Hey, victor. What can I do for you? What?

Victor: Tell the press that my son nicholas is returning to the family business.

Neil: Sure. I'll -- I'll get right on it.

Victor: Let me have your mic, please.

Neil: There you go.

Victor: Would you help me up?

Neil: Yeah, sure. Come on. Got it?

Victor: Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention, please? For the rest of the day, the drinks are on me. I'm celebrating the return of my son to newman enterprises. Nothing makes a man prouder, happier than to know that his own flesh and blood follows in his footsteps and carries on the family tradition and the family business. So, to my son... to all fathers and sons.

Devon: Yes, we did. We did, and it looks like everybody has food.

Hilary: And charlie has already been through this line three times. Already.

Devon: [ Chuckles ] You know, you are A...

Hilary: Hot mess?

Devon: No. No. I wasn't gonna say that, I was gonna say you're a good sport. But you do look pretty hot right now. In a good way.

Hilary: So do you.

Mariah: Hey, um, I'm gonna be back a minute, okay?

Tessa: Okay.

Mariah: Hey!

Faith: Hey.

Mariah: You hittin' the hard stuff?

Faith: Soda.

Mariah: Oh, yes, I know a good sugar rush always picked me up when I was feeling down.

Faith: I'm not sure anything can make feel better today.

Mariah: So, mom and nick told you the news.

Faith: Yeah. They're getting back together. Again. They thought I'd be cool with it.

Mariah: And you're not.

Faith: [ Sighs ] It's not like I don't want them to be happy.

Mariah: But you've seen this movie, and the ending sucks.

Faith: Yeah.

Mariah: Well... look, love is always a risk. And you put yourself out there, and sometimes... sometimes, it doesn't go as planned. But I'll tell you something. And it took me a really long time to figure this out, but if you really, really want to be with somebody, you just got to go for it. It's better to do that then do nothing.

Faith: Even if you end up getting hurt?

Mariah: Even then.

Faith: Do you think it's dumb to believe maybe this time mom and dad won't break up?

Mariah: No. I don't think that's dumb. At all. But no matter what, you're gonna be just as loved as you are right now. By your parents, by your super-cool, awesomely amazing big sister.

Faith: Yeah. I can always count on summer.

Mariah: Summer?!

Faith: I'm kidding!

Mariah: Yeah, you better be, thank you very much!

[ Laughter ]

Sharon: Hey, you two!

Mariah: Hi!

Faith: Hey. I should go finish my food. Thanks.

Mariah: Anytime, squirt.

Sharon: Um, everything okay?

Mariah: Yeah. Yeah. Everything's fine. Just a little, uh, sisterly bonding.

Sharon: I noticed you had a little bonding moment with tessa earlier.

Mariah: Oh, yeah. We were really connecting over cole slaw and corn.

Sharon: Mariah...

Mariah: It's -- it's fine. It's all fine.

Sharon: Can't blame me for worrying.

Mariah: Well, there's nothing to worry about, okay? I'm just trying to get past... the past.

Shauna: Hey.

Hilary: Shauna! Finally.

Shauna: I was studying. I lost track of time.

Charlie: Hey.

Shauna: Hey.

Hilary: Okay, so, I want to know every detail about prom. All I got out of charlie was that it was "dope."

Lily: Yeah, welcome to my world.

Hilary: I want to know everything, okay? What was the theme? You know, how was the deejay? Was there a photo booth? And who was crowned king and queen? Was it -- was it you and charlie?

Shauna: They don't do that at my school anymore.

Lily: What? That's a shame.

Shauna: I still felt like a queen, though, in that dress you gave me with my hair and makeup done and riding in that sweet limo.

Hilary: Well, every girl deserves to feel like a queen on her prom night.

Charlie: Hey, there are some kids hanging out by the pool if you want to check it out.

Shauna: Sure.

Hilary: Hey, you didn't -- you didn't eat anything.

Shauna: I'll grab something later.

Devon: [ Grunts ]

Hilary: Kids, huh?

Lily: Yeah.

Hilary: Hey.

Devon: [ Grunts ] Hey.

Hilary: What's all this? It's dessert.

Hilary: Well, let me help you with it, then.

Devon: No. No, no, no. I want you to take it easy. I got it.

Hilary: Okay, well, let me at least take one.

Devon: Sure.

Lily: Hey. Have you seen what's going on with these two?

Neil: I take it you're not referring to their mad cooking skills.

Lily: She has her hooks in him again. I have to say something.

Neil: No, lily, please don't do that.

Lily: Hey. Can we have a talk?

Hilary: Okay, if this was about the burger --

Lily: I see what you and devon are doing.

Hilary: And?

Lily: You better treat him right this time.

Victor: You know your daddy is coming back to work at newman enterprises, and that makes me very happy. You know why?

Faith: Because newman enterprises is your legacy. Grandpa built it from the ground up by himself with no help from anyone. And his children and grandchildren will always have a place in the company. He wants them to continue his life's work long after he's gone, which is kind of gross to think about.

Nick: Okay, no more sleepovers at aunt vick'S.

Victoria: What? She did not learn that speech from me.

Nikki: Victoria!

[ Laughter ]

Victor: That was so well done, but let me give you a little warning.

Faith: What?

Victor: Never take anything for granted, okay? The brave men and women that we're honoring here today, well, when they went into the battlefield, they also had hopes for the future, just like you and I. But they sacrificed their lives so that you and I and everyone here can pursue their dreams. Okay?

Faith: We learned about that in school.

Victor: You did?

Faith: Mm-hmm.

Victor: I have a feeling that christian will soon learn the same.

Nick: Yeah, we're gonna let him get out of diapers first.

[ Laughter ]

Victor: [ Laughs ] I know he's young, but, you know, the boy's smart. He's strong. Like his father.

Faith: Dad, you said you'd take us swimming.

Nick: Oh, yeah, let's do it. Let's go grab christian from mariah. Where are christian's trunks? They're in the beach bag with his floaties.

Nick: All right! Time for some daddy cannonballs!

Faith: Oh, dad, please don'T. It's so embarrassing.

Nick: Why do you think I do them?

[ Laughter ]

Nikki: Have fun!

Victor: Excuse me for a minute, sweetheart.

Mattie: Hi, ms. Newman.

Victoria: Hi, mattie.

Mattie: I was just wondering if you've heard from J.T.

Victoria: Uh, I... I haven'T. Why?

Mattie: I've been video-chatting reed, and... well, he won't admit it, but he really misses his dad. Do you think J.T. Will ever reach out to him?

Victoria: I can't really answer that. I'm sorry.

Mattie: Yeah, no, i understand. I mean, I don'T. I just -- I feel really sorry for reed.

Victoria: Yeah, me, too, sweetheart.

Mattie: Okay, well, um... I'll see you later.

Nikki: Oh, man. Definitely not the reminder i wanted to hear today.

Victoria: No. Me, neither. I know this is gonna sound really awful, but I was starting to put what happened behind me.

Nikki: Has paul contacted you lately?

Victoria: No, not since he questioned me about the phone.

Nick: I thought you were giving that position back to vick.
