Episode #11399 ~ Jack spins out of control; Cane defends Charlie; Dina suffers a setback.
Provided By Suzanne
Previously on "the young and the restless"...
Neil: It's a big night for my grandson charlie. He helped put together a documentary film all about dina mergeron's life.
Charlie: I hope I did a good job for her.
Victor: I will keep this.
Kyle: No.
Victor: Consider this a goodwill gesture.
Dina: This is a film about me. I'm starring in it! It's my time in the spotlight!
Jack: Mother, you're gonna be tonight's shining star!
Ashley: It's going to be a night to remember.
Jack: Let's hear dina mergeron tell us about her incredible life.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Victor: Well, it looks like i arrived just in time.
Dina: I've had multiple affairs, but there is one that I've kept secret. And for good reason. Jack is not john's son.
Dina: What happened? Why did it stop? The film was just getting good.
Abby: I think there's some technical difficulties, so, um, why don't we go to the lobby and get a drink?
Jack: No. Nobody leaves. I want to see the last scene again!
Traci: Jack...
Jack: Show me the last 10 seconds!
Abby: I don't think we need to see that.
Jack: Now!
Dina: I'm talking about jack. Can't you see that? Jack is the consequence. Jack is not john's son.
Jack: I'm the lucky one. They don't make guys like pop anymore. He'd been the one person I could always count on.
Ashley: No one will ever take your place in my heart.
Traci: He was always so strong. He never lost faith in any of us. But the biggest gift daddy gave me was teaching me how to believe in myself.
Jack: Every good thing I've done in my life, I've done because of you. We abbotts stick together.
Dina: [ Sighs ] You know, I -- I don't understand. Why did we have to leave like that? You know, we didn't even get to finish the movie.
Traci: Mother, I'm sorry. There was a problem. Something broke.
Dina: Oh, well, I hope it's not ruined for good. All those wonderful memories. It would be a shame if we lost them.
Traci: Let's take you up to your room, shall we?
Dina: Okay.
Traci: Okay, let's change.
Dina: Thank you, dear.
Abby: How? How did this happen? We destroyed that footage. That was the only copy. That was it. Wait, what if it's me? What if I saved it to the cloud?
Ashley: Could that have happened?
Abby: I don't know, but uncle jack wasn't supposed to find out, especially not like this, not in front of everyone.
[ Door opens ]
Kyle: Is dad back?
Ashley: Why isn't he with you?
Kyle: I tried getting him out of the theatre. Most people wandered off, no idea what the hell just happened. I begged him to come with me, or at least let me get him a car, but he wouldn't even look at me. It's like I was standing right in front of him, but he was already gone.
Jack: Make it a double.
Billy: All right. That's an option. It's not the best choice, but it is a choice. However, I'm thinking you drinking in public, worked up the way you are is not the best answer.
Jack: What the hell just happened? How did we get here?
Billy: Somebody made a mistake, jack. Somewhere along the line.
Jack: Or maybe you're wrong. Maybe it wasn't a mistake. Is it poss-- is it possible it's true?
Billy: No.
Jack: That was my mother up there. You saw her, you heard what she had to say.
Billy: I've heard dina say a lot of things that make no sense, all right? Half the time she thinks you're john. And don't -- just don't go down that hole, all right? Your mother has alzheimer'S. Half the time, she's bouncing between the past and present, reality and fantasy, like a ping-pong ball. That right there, that was one of those moments, all right? It shouldn't have been in the damn movie.
Jack: It wasn'T. It wasn't in the version I saw earlier. Nothing like it was.
Billy: Okay, so that's what we saw. That was charlie's rough cut, or whatever. Jack, files, they get mixed up, or who knows what, but that was a mistake.
Jack: Or it was a message from someone who went to a lot of trouble to hurt me.
Feel the clarity of non-drowsy
[ Cheers and applause ]
Mattie: Whoo, charlie!
Cane: Charlie! Whoo!
Lily: Yeah! [ Laughs ]
Cane: My son, the filmmaker. Come here. Come here.
Lily: I took a picture of your credit, can I post it?
Mattie: It'll drive him nuts, but do it anyway, and tag me. #Twinpride #twinalicious okay?
Lily: I'm glad you said that we should stay till the end.
Cane: Right, huh? The way he linked the clips together, the graphics and the music? You know, made a story out of the bits and pieces.
Lily: Yeah, and you worked really hard, and it showed. And I have to say, you added a lot of heart 'cause those were dina's words and her face, but the way you put it together, it was beautiful.
Cane: Mm-hmm.
Charlie: Till everyone freaked out and then left halfway through.
Cane: Yeah, well, jack seemed, um... well, I don't know where to begin with that, but listen, hey, what you accomplished --
Charlie: That clip, what ms. Mergeron said about her husband, I never saw that footage. I didn't put it in there. It wasn't me.
Abby: How did this happen? Dina's horrible confession on the big screen, and uncle jack wanting to play it over again? I mean, it was even the worse the second time. You couldn't just gloss past it or pretend like you didn't hear it.
Ashley: Honestly, the look on his face, I am never gonna forget it.
Abby: Dina was right. It was supposed to be her big day, her time to shine, but instead...
Ashley: But at least it didn't seem to register with her. I mean, that's the one sad mercy in all of this.
Abby: And my dad being there, it makes it that much worse.
Ashley: Yeah.
Abby: Him being there to see uncle jack's face when he found out the truth.
Kyle: You don't know if it's the truth. Dina doesn't even know she and i are related. It could be more of the same. Nothing to do with reality.
Abby: When dina told me that grandpa wasn'T... what she said during our interviews, I -- I thought, well, maybe she's confused, but no, no. She knew what she was saying, and she meant it. And it's true.
Kyle: So that means...
Abby: So that means we have to find uncle jack and make sure that he's okay.
Kyle: Thanks for the support. In case you didn't realize, it happened to me, as well. If you're right and it's true... I'm not an abbott, either.
Jack: Someone went to a lot of effort to stick it to me. The time, the place, the audience -- the perfect set-up for a public humiliation. Oh, god. How did we get here? Nothing makes sense anymore.
Billy: We'll find out who did this, jack, okay? On a side note, we're gonna grind them to dust. But the other part about that, what actually happened in there, what dina said, it changes nothing.
Jack: What if...
Billy: There's no "what if." No.
Jack: What if it's true? That was my mother up there confessing -- admitting -- that I'm not john abbott's son.
Billy: Yeah, you are, jack. You are, and you'll always be the son that he was proud of.
Jack: Don't do that, billy. Don't whitewash...how proud he always felt of me. He didn't always feel proud of me. He had good reason not to.
Billy: He was proud of you. Which made you a really tough act to follow. I mean, you made it entirely too easy for me to be the family screw-up. Don't get me wrong, I mean, I took to it naturally. I mean, I knew I was never gonna be harvard mba, golden boy jack abbott. So I accepted my role as black sheep, okay? That's mine. Because I knew that you were always gonna be there for me. No matter what I did or how many times I screwed up. And when I crossed the line with phyllis, I ruined everything between us, and I gave you every reason to cut me loose, and you still didn'T. Because that is who you are. And that's who we will always be -- abbott brothers.
Jack: I got a reality flash for you. If what dina said was true... one of us isn't an abbott.
Billy: Yeah, well, one crazy line from dina doesn't change reality. I remember this one time, I came home from boarding school, and dad dragged me to some event where you were being honored. Exactly what I wanted to do on my spring break. But, you know, dad was there, just glowing with pride, telling everybody, "that's my boy." John abbott, jr. That's what it said on the screen behind you as you stood at the podium and accepted your award. Dad was everything that you could ever ask from a father for you. Okay? It doesn't matter what dna says.
Jack: I've given that speech to ashley a million times. It does matter, billy. If what dina said was true, it changes everything.
Kyle: It's almost funny. It is. Why would either of you have the faintest concern about how this might affect me? I mean, it's not as if I were a real abbott to begin with.
Abby: Kyle, I know exactly how you feel. And I wouldn't wish that on anyone, but...look at you. You're standing here. You're obviously holding it together, but uncle jack, we don't know what he's thinking. We don't know what he's feeling. I mean, you have to admit, it's different for him.
Kyle: You have no idea.
Abby: That's not true. How do you think I felt when i found out the exact same thing?
Ashley: Abby does understand exactly how you feel, kyle. With good reason. And I understand exactly what jack's going through. John abbott was the most wonderful father that any child could have. Day in and day out, he was there for us. He was loving and supportive. And when the time came that he had to be both a mother and a father to all of his children, he never missed a beat. It wasn't about the fact that he was a mogul or he had money and prestige. He was warm and solid. He was there for us when we had a teenage break-up or we got a bad grade. He wasn't just some cold and distant father figure. He was so loving. He was daddy. I guess he did what any good father would do. And that's what jack has lost today.
Kyle: How did he lose it? All those moments he had, all the attention... did it just get erased? Jack still has everything john ever gave him. Which sounds like a heck of a lot compared to some.
Abby: Kyle, this isn't a competition about who's hurting more right now.
Kyle: Thank you for giving me permission to have emotions. I really appreciate it.
Abby: Can you stop twisting things for one second? I can think about you and your father at the same time.
Kyle: Except I don't really figure into the whole equation, and I'm not offended. I get it. I didn't grow up with john and the rest of you. Dad can pay good lip service to being a father to me, but it's not like john was to him. The skinned-knee years, the bedtime stories... those are the moments you're talking about, right? It's fascinating to me. To hear about what it's like to be a part of a loving family. I wouldn't know.
Abby: What are you saying, kyle? You think jack deserved this?
Jack: I'll have another.
Billy: No, we're not gonna do that.
Jack: I'm gonna have another drink. If you don't like it, you can leave.
Billy: Jack, don't do this to yourself.
Jack: This was done to me.
Billy: Come on. Nobody's ever loved a son like dad loved you.
Jack: Oh, the sad bastard speech. Just take out "daughter" and write in "son."
Billy: Okay, so you're saying it's not true? Dad didn't love ashley?
Jack: This isn't about her.
Billy: No, you're right, jack. This is about you. How you worshipped dad. You still do. And, guess what, he earned it. That is how good dad was to you. You understand? Come on, man, that love that you guys shared, that's all still right here. That's what makes your father-son. That's what makes a family. Our family. And it's not going away. Ever. So right now, we're gonna go home because everybody's probably worried about you.
Jack: [ Sighs ]
Victor: You know, jack, I must say, I really am sorry about what happened at the theatre tonight. Such a lovely, sweet tribute to your mother, and what a shame to have it ruined by this unexpected ending.
Jack: I'm sure you enjoyed every minute of it.
Victor: Oh, no, I did not. You know, one shouldn't find out about one's parentage in such a brutal, public manner.
Billy: We're going home. Hey, hey. No. Come on. We're going home. Introducing fresh step clean paws,
Kyle: It's good to know if i have feelings that aren't shiny-happy about my father, it obviously means I hate him and want him to suffer.
Abby: Why did you even ask to move into this house if you're so miserable with this family?
Kyle: Here's the point you keep missing. I may live in the house, but I'm outside of the family. Always have been.
Abby: [ Laughs ] Oh, yeah. Yeah, when you were in new york, working for the abbott company, living off of abbott money.
Kyle: Or busting my ass so my dad would maybe notice me, but it never actually happened. Guess who did?
Abby: Oh, yeah, we all know. My father. My father took you under his wing.
Ashley: Abby, one second. Why do you think victor did that?
Kyle: Couldn't have been because I lived with the man on and off. Or that he might actually like me. How's this for crazy? He might even respect me.
Ashley: Listen, I don't want to seem insensitive, but I think you might be confusing victor being fond of you with him having use of you. We've all made that same mistake, and we all had to learn that lesson.
Abby: My father can be very convincing, and when he shines his light on you, it can be... dazzling, no argument. But even as his daughter, I know that he expects a big return on his investment.
Ashley: And he expects even more from people outside the family. So you tell me, kyle, what deal did the two of you strike?
Kyle: And the insults keep coming. Have you even noticed that this abbott-newman feud -- which is really just between dad and victor, by the way -- have you noticed that there are two players in the game? But people are so sure victor is the villain and dad is a saint. Maybe that'll all change when people find out that dad doesn't have sacred abbott blood running through his veins.
Abby: Oh, my god, how can you say that about your own father?
Kyle: How can you defend him after what he did to your own mother? Using who she is, who her real father is, to make sure she didn't take his place. It's not just business. It was personal. Dad just had to remind her that she never really belonged.
Traci: What is wrong with you guys? I finally get dina to sleep and now you decide to start bickering? This is no time for fighting.
[ Sighs ] We're all abbotts. We stick together. Or have we just abandoned that concept?
[ Door opens ]
Jack: I don't know what to say, um, except... I need you all more than you'll ever know.
Lily: Who chose the key lime tart? Because it's mine now.
Mattie: I am stuffed already.
Cane: Hey, charlie. You want to trade? You don't like that?
Charlie: It was my name up there! Everybody's gonna think i screwed up! Maybe I did, I just -- I keep going over and over every single choice I made, every button I pushed. It must have happened when i decided to throw out the old edit, and I just spent all night working on a brand-new edit. I got sloppy. I don't even understand how this could have happened.
Cane: All right, listen. This is not your fault, no way. You were a total pro about this. You're a perfectionist.
Mattie: I'm just surprised that you're actually good at something other than sports and girls. Who knew?
Lily: Listen, charlie, "what the mind can't remember, the heart never forgets." That was you.
Charlie: Only 'cause grandpa said it.
Lily: But you instinctively knew when and how to use it. That's not just skill, that's art.
Charlie: That's why I stayed up all night, to work that line in. That's when I screwed up.
Mattie: But you showed the movie to the abbotts, right? And you watched it before then.
Charlie: I know. I was there. That clip wasn't in the movie.
Cane: Okay, which means you weren't responsible for what happened. You made a beautiful movie with a ton of heart. Okay?
Lily: It's true.
Cane: Uh-huh.
Lily: And whatever happened afterwards, that is out of your control.
Cane: Absolutely.
Charlie: Then who did it? If it wasn't me, then who ruined everything for the abbotts?
Jack: We saw that movie on charlie's computer before the screening. That scene, those words were not in there. I want to know how it got there.
Traci: Abby, honey, I mean, was this one of the interviews that you had with mother? Was she talking to you?
Abby: Yes. I'm the only one that interviewed her, but... uncle jack, I wasn't gonna use it, obviously. It wasn't even supposed to make it into the documentary. I don't know how it got there. I've been trying to make sense of it. I can't figure it out.
Jack: But you knew she said that and -- you didn't come to me.
Ashley: That was my decision, jack.
Jack: So you knew, as well.
Ashley: Abby came to me. She was confused. And shocked. And she needed guidance.
Jack: And your advice to her was to keep it from me.
Abby: We wanted to wait until we were sure.
Jack: Sure of what? What? Ashley, what did you do?
Ashley: We decided to run a dna test.
Jack: With my dna? Without my knowing about it?
Ashley: To protect you.
Abby: We didn't want to hurt you.
Jack: And what were the results?
Abby: I'm sorry, uncle jack. I'm so sorry. Dray, when he was younger, he loved to smile; and we knew he would need braces because his teeth were coming in funny. This is the picture that was on the front page of the newspaper. All you can notice is the braces! Then, once he got to michigan state, he broke the retainer! My bottom teeth, they were really crooked, and I just wasn't getting braces again. Then i discovered smiledirectclub. It's easy to just grab it and go and I can change it on the road. I did photoshoots with my aligners in and you can't see them. A smile is a first impression, that's why I think having a great sm

migraine with botox®.
Jack: All this time, this -- this secret you kept from me, both of you. Not a word from either.
Abby: We were praying it wasn't true. I thought maybe somehow things got mixed up in dina's head. My mom, brent davis, you...
Jack: And then when you had the proof, did you tell me then? No. This was some little secret you two had.
Abby: Only because we couldn't see what good could come from telling you.
Ashley: I wanted to spare you the pain, jack. It's agony. Nobody knows that better than i do. The feeling that you...can't get enough air. That you never will. I didn't want you go to through that, jack.
Traci: And you, traci? I assume you were in on this, too.
Abby: No, no one else knew, uncle jack, I promise.
Traci: We're all just trying to process this, the news and how it came out.
Kyle: Can't stop thinking about it. What she said, it's like we lost something huge today.
Jack: Only we haven'T. We don't know that this is true.
Abby: What about the test results? I don't know if there's a way to get around those facts.
Jack: Billy reminded me there are other facts, abby. The bond I shared with my father, the love. Growing up john abbott's son, I learned so much about life. How to earn trust and keep it. How to lead by example.
Ashley: "Stick-to-itiveness."
Traci: [ Chuckles ] That's right.
Jack: Yeah, that's right. "Stick-to-itiveness." When I was a kid, dad took me to jabot. I don't know, I was in my early teens, and we got there, and dad got pulled away by some emergency, and he had one of his vps take me around. He was telling just how great our father was. Fair and honest, giving credit where credit is due. He said, "jack, most men aren't like that. Never take that for granted."
[ Sniffles ] Amazing thing to remember. Dad was the heart and soul of that place. He still is. And every day, I'm trying to be more like him. A better father, a better leader, a better man, and I know I don't always measure up. I know that. I've spent my entire life trying to live up to his example, to be the son that he deserves. If I don't have that, I...
[ Sighs ]
Cane: How the clip got in the movie, okay, we're gonna leave that up to the abbotts to figure it out, okay? Because it's their family and it's their business, but our concern is you. You accomplished a big deal, all right? Because you had a vision in your head on how you wanted the movie to look, sound, and feel, and you did it, right?
Charlie: No, not really. I didn't do that much. It wasn't even my idea.
Cane: All right. Would there be a movie without you? Huh? No, there wouldn'T. There'd be a bunch of thumb drives with interviews on them. And what did you do? You took those interviews and you turned them into a story.
Mattie: Mm-hmm.
Cane: Right? Right?
Charlie: Yeah. Okay. I get it now.
Cane: All right.
Charlie: You guys can stop.
Cane: I don't think, uh, we have a choice. He's gonna make us do it.
Lily: I think you're right.
Cane: Mm-hmm. Okay.
Lily: It's time.
[ Clears throat ]
Cane: Hmm. Uh, and the award for best newcomer...
Charlie: This is not happening.
Mattie: Oh, it so is, but at least it's to you and not me.
Cane: ...For his debut film, which captured the life, heart, and soul of a remarkable woman. He used his skill and his dedication...
Lily: Yeah.
Cane: ...To honor a legacy. Oh! And he brought his mum to soggy tears.
Mattie: Oh, yeah, she did that half cry, half hiccup thing that she does.
Lily: What? I did not!
Cane: Mm-hmm, mm-hmm. Yes, you did. You did. You did. I would like to present this award to my son. Charlie ashby.
[ Cheers and applause ]
Charlie: Traitor.
Lily: Speech!
Cane: Speech! Speech!
Charlie: I don't know you people.
Lily: Come on, we're still clapping.
Cane: We're still clapping. We're not gonna stop clapping until you give us a speech.
Mattie: Take it already!
Charlie: Fine! Fine.
Mattie: Thank you. My hands are broken.
[ Laughter ]
Charlie: I'd like to say thank you to crimson lights and the coffee that kept me up another night. And my family. When abby first asked me to help cut together her grandmother's memories, I thought, cool. But pretty soon, I wasn't just doing a favor for my mom's friend. It was something more than that. And I didn't want to just do a good job. It had to be great. Because if you don't know, i don't always give 100% to everything that I do.
[ Clearing throats ]
Cane: ...Your gpa.
Mattie: Your gpa.
Charlie: [ Chuckles ] Look, you guys always told us that we could do whatever we want to do and be whoever we want to be, and you meant it. So thank you.
Lily: Oh, honey...
Cane: Aww.
Mattie: [ Chuckles ]
Charlie: I have a car waiting for me and a meeting to take, so it was nice knowing you.
Cane: Hey! No, no, no, no. Come here. Come here. Come here. Everybody, come here.
Lily: Aww.
Cane: We're proud of you.
Lily: So proud.
Cane: We're proud of you.
Billy: Look, the fact is, we don't know if it's true, right? I mean, dina's good moments are fewer and farther between nowadays.
Abby: What about the dna test?
Billy: What about it? They can be wrong. Jack wasn't physically at the lab, right? I mean, I'm not putting my faith in one test. It's -- it's premature.
Traci: And I just want this thing to be a big mistake.
Kyle: No one wants it to be true.
Abby: This is exactly what we didn't want, the emotional chaos.
Ashley: We destroyed the only copy of the footage that we had, and we thought that would be the end of it.
Jack: Then someone tell me how that clip got in there.
Abby: It's my fault. It's because of me.
A mother's love is
unconditional.
Lily: You did a good job humoring your dad and me. How are you feeling?
Charlie: Better, but... man, back at the theatre, that was crazy. Everything was slo-mo one second, and super-speed the next. Everyone got all dressed up for ms. Mergeron's big night, and it exploded because of me.
Lily: No, not because of you. Look, we don't know why or how, but we know it was nothing on your end. Charlie, you found something that you're really good at, something that you want to put hours of effort into. That's a gift -- when work isn't work. You know, it's focus and excitement and satisfaction.
Charlie: Yeah, but despite all that, it was still a huge disaster.
Lily: Well, you know, that might happen again.
Charlie: It's not what i expected.
Lily: Well, it's true. Things happen. Not like this, usually, thank god, but it does. And when it does, you put your head down and you try again. And again and again and again. Because when you find something that you're meant to do, you don't have a choice. It's in your blood. Listen, successful people are not better or smarter than anyone else. They just refuse to give up.
Charlie: This is you?
Lily: Yeah. It's me now. And you are my son. So it means it's in you, too.
Charlie: Okay.
Lily: Okay.
Cane: So, how's our man doing?
Lily: He's perfect in every way. You ready to go?
Cane: Uh, I have to make a quick stop at the office.
Lily: What did you forget this time?
Cane: Thank you for your support.
Lily: Mm-hmm. But...?
Cane: I forgot my laptop.
Lily: I knew it. I knew it. Okay. Bye. We'll see you at home.
Cane: Okay. Bye.
Lily: Come on, guys.
Cane: See ya. I'll see you soon.
Abby: The interviews were my idea. I was there asking every single question. I asked every one of them. I was leading dina down this path or that one...
[ Sighs ] And when dina said that john wasn't your biological father, i should have just stopped there. I shouldn't have pursued it. And I most certainly should have just deleted the footage then and there. If I had just thought for two seconds, then maybe we could just go on...
Kyle: Living a lie.
Billy: What did I say about premature?
Kyle: Not a lie, but in the dark. It might not be true. I hope like hell it isn'T. But we all know it's possible.
Traci: Kyle's right. We all know what our mother was capable of back then.
Ashley: She admitted she wasn't the most devoted wife and mother, and we know what she put daddy through when she left.
Jack: I remember the night mom left us. The two of you were very young. Traci couldn't stop crying. She climbed into ashley's bed. Dad was up there trying to help them get to sleep, and I was a kid myself. And I didn't know what to think or feel, and... dad came down to the kitchen and found me, and he made two root beer floats. His whole world had just fallen apart, and he wanted to make sure I was okay. And we talked and we talked, and I really don't remember much of what we said. I do remember one thing, though, crystal-clear. He said, "jack... I can't do this alone. You're gonna have to help me with your sisters. You're gonna have to help me. Promise me you will look after them." I made the biggest promise I'd ever made in my life, and we shook hands like men. And I knew what it was to be like john abbott.
Kyle: After that, he had to be both parents. Ashley told me about it before you and billy got here. A man like john abbott, with all that power and responsibility, being both mother and father. From everything you all have ever said... he pulled it off.
Ashley: He did.
Jack: Oh, did he, like no one else ever could.
Dina: Well, I'm surprised you're all still up.
Ashley: What are you doing out of bed?
Dina: [ Sighs ] I'd like a cup of tea, please.
Traci: Of course, but, you know, why don't we get you back up in your bed --
Dina: You're all making family time, I see, without me. Talking behind my back again, are we? I'm right, aren't I?
Abby: That's not true. Honestly, dina.
Ashley: We thought that you would be tired after your late evening.
Dina: Mm. You're not one of them, are you? Keeping secrets, leaving me out? This family. Oh, you should know that this family thrives on keeping secrets, dishonesty at every turn.
Ashley: Okay, why don't we go to the kitchen?
Dina: No, I don't want to go to the kitchen. John would be -- well, he wouldn't put up with anything like this. Whispers and looks. Our relationship was an honest one, and he would be furious with all of you!
Traci: Okay, you are so right. John was very trustworthy.
Dina: Exactly. That's why I was devoted to him and he to me. We built our family on love and honor and respect.
Jack: Would you please shut the hell up?
Jack: The family you built? You had nothing to do with it! Nothing! In fact, you took a sledgehammer to it!
Dina: John, how can you --
Jack: I am not john! John is your husband! Remember him? The one you left behind with three kids you didn't give a damn about? The one who treated you kindly, who showed you love? How did you treat him?
Traci: All right, that's enough. Come on. We're gonna go now. Let's go.
Dina: What have I done? I mean, why does he say things like that to me?
Traci: I know. I know. It'll be all right.
Kyle: You don't want this, dad. It may feel good --
Jack: I'll tell you what i don't want, I don't want any part of this revisionist history. Their deep, abiding love, their bond. She announced to all of us that she'd been unfaithful to our father from the first day of their marriage. And, of course, now everyone who was in the theatre knows about it because it was in the movie!
Ashley: Jack!
Jack: How many people? How many men do you think she slept with while dad was building a legacy, while dad was paying the country club dues so she could troll the next pool boy? Or the next businessman? All right under his nose. Yeah, that's right, our classy fabulous mother.
Ashley: So what? What? She's old and she's confused and she has no idea why you're yelling at her, jack. Dina abbott can't hurt you or our family anymore.
Jack: Can't hurt our -- were you not in that theatre tonight? That was our mother! Our dear sweet mother on that screen bragging about her conquests.
Abby: No, it wasn't like that. She was ashamed. I mean, dina was confessing.
Jack: As well she should.
Abby: Dina feels terrible about what she did.
Jack: She should feel awful about it. I hope it follows her to the grave!
Ashley: You don't mean that!
Jack: I'll tell you what i know. John abbott is the only real parent we ever had, and speaking for myself, the only parent i really needed. I am not going to let the demented blatherings of that woman ruin my life. To hell with your dna tests, okay? I'm not gonna let my father be taken away from me.
[ Doorbell rings ]
Billy: I'll get rid of whoever that is.
Billy: Seriously? If you were at theatre, now's not the best time.
Ashley: Cane...
Cane: Billy says it's not a good time, and I understand that, and I am sorry. But I just left my son who feels horrible for something that happened in a movie that he made at your request. Now, I know you guys have your problems, but my son is hurting, and I need to understand why.
Abby: I don't know what happened. I thought I kept the footage from charlie. I don't know how it got in there. I'm not saying it was on purpose.
Cane: No, no, no, no, no. Charlie said he never saw the footage, nor did he put it in the movie, which he says that each one of your saw and you signed off on, yes? Yes?
Abby: Yes.
Cane: Okay, so let me make myself extremely clear to you people. You will not use my son as a scapegoat. This film is yours. You controlled the footage. It is your screw-up. So don't look to blaming my son. If you want to look at blaming someone, you can look at yourselves, okay?
