Episode #11329 ~ Nick opens the door to a secret; Noah catches Devon off guard; Cane catches Lily in a lie.

Provided By Suzanne

Previously on the young and the restless ...

Ashley: I'm going to be starting a new business venture.

Nikki: If support is what she wants, she should come over to newman instead.

Chelsea: I have nick and faith and christian in my life now, so, you know, I don't need reckless and dangerous. I understand how lucky I am to have a solid, dependable guy like nick.

Nick: Oh!

Chelsea: [ Gasps ]

[ Giggles ]

Nick: I fixed it.

Devon: If you really need a job, you can stay on as an assistant, but I know that's not what you want to do.

Noah: It didn't bother you one bit that you made a move on your own brother's girlfriend! I told you I've already been burned before, but apparently that didn't matter. We're done.

Hilary: I want to have a baby. I'm looking for prospective fathers. This is a sperm-donor site. I really can't talk right now. Can you just leave a voicemail? I just said I can't -- um, nurse who? Yes, yes, of course. My test results. Um, yes, I will -- I will be right there. Okay, thank you.

Tessa: Oh!

Devon: Hey.

Tessa: Hi. I hope chicago went well. I got your messages. I put them in your e-phone log.

Devon: Okay.

Tessa: And I also got the valet guys to detail your car.

Devon: Thank you.

Tessa: Oh, since it's my first day, I wanted to show you how grateful I am. Most people wouldn't want to look at someone that they just dropped from their record label.

Devon: Remember, tessa, this is just probationary as long as there's no more trouble. It's gonna take a little bit of time to trust you again after what you pulled with mariah's journal.

Tessa: I understand. I totally get it. I do have some skills that can help the company. I know music, and I could track signings from other labels, and I can find artists online that are creating buzz and --

Devon: We can talk about that if everything goes well. But for right now, you can just circulate and take coffee orders for the office.

Tessa: I will go get my legal pad.

Noah: Here is all your stuff from what, uh, used to be our place. I didn't really feel like looking at it anymore, you know?

Billy: Ash.

Ashley: Hey.

Phyllis: We were just talking about you.

Ashley: I have a feeling a lot of people are talking about me lately.

Billy: Yeah, well, it's big news. I don't think anybody thought that you would be quitting jabot, unless you've changed your mind.

Phyllis: I owe lauren a phone call. You guys talk.

Ashley: So, I stand by my decision. I have no plans on going back to jabot as long as jack is there. But it doesn't mean that I'm going to be obsessing about what he did to me or how much he hurt me. I'm too busy planning my next move, billy. I want it to be major.

Billy: And I can tell by that look in your eye you have something in mind.

Ashley: I may. But before I make my mind up, i want to talk to you.

Billy: Okay, well, I just happen to have a moment and phyllis' untouched mojito.

Ashley: Mmm. I do have an offer, and it's from victor.

[ Chuckles ]

Charlie: Bye, mom.

Lily: Bye, honey.

Cane: Hey, hey, hey. You should see sam right now. There's this bird that landed in the window. You got to see what he's doing with his eyes. Hey, hey, sweetheart. Come and look at this. Come here.

Lily: Oh, I wish I could, but I have to go back to newman.

Cane: Whoa, but you just got home.

Lily: I know. Only because I forgot something.

Cane: Can't you do it from here?

Lily: Uh, no. Victoria wants me to sit in on some meetings.

Cane: Well, will you be home in time for dinner?

Lily: Um, I have to work late, so why don't you just order something for yourself, the nanny, and the kids, yeah? Oh, unless charlie eats with his friends. So I'll just see you whenever she releases me. Bye!

Cane: See ya.

[ Door closes ] Hey. Well, looks like, uh, bridgette's, uh, with sam, so it's just you and me.

Mattie: I should really finish this. I'm really behind on my ap reading list.

Cane: So basically you're choosing moby dick over your dad, huh? Kind of, uh, lets me know where I stand.

Chelsea: Oh.

Nick: Hey. You look like you're about to head out.

Chelsea: Yeah, I have that fitting with that bridal party from hell, remember?

Nick: All right. Well, while you're gone, I'm gonna paint the bathroom.

Chelsea: Oh. Don't you want to leave that job to the pros?

Nick: You know, your confidence in me at times is overwhelming.

Chelsea: No, that's not what I -- I just mean --

Nick: No, I know what you mean, but I want to do this myself with these two hands.

Chelsea: Well, these hands have lots of special talents.

Nick: Ooh. Yes. Look, I want to do this, okay? I want to do this for you. I want to have this surprise for you when you come home.

Chelsea: All right, well, if you're not passed out on the tiles from exhaustion or from the paint fumes, then I'll be surprised.

Nick: [ Sighs ]

Ashley: Would I like to create my own product line? Of course I would. But I know that I would probably spend almost as much time developing a web presence for online sales as I would in creating the damn line itself with retail sales being the way they are.

Billy: It's scary. You're right. But not half as scary as calling victor newman your boss, ashley.

Ashley: Your relationship with victor is different than my relationship with victor, okay, because we have a child together and we loved each other at one time.

Billy: Right. Victor and I are much more consistent. We started at a place of mutual loathing, and all these years later, still mutual loathing.

Tessa: You had to do this here? On my first day?

Noah: I didn't really feel like waiting.

Tessa: To humiliate me?!

Noah: [ Scoffs ] Okay. Welcome to the club. Doesn't feel great, does it? Not that we're close to being even.

Tessa: I said I was sorry! Why do you want to hurt me?!

Devon: Guys, people work here, all right? We can't do this. You should probably leave, man.

Noah: All I'm trying to do is drop off her stuff and leave. She's the one making a scene.

Devon: You both are out of line right now, though. I can't have this. I get why you'd side with your sister, but you're acting like you're the one that got burned and not mariah right now.

Noah: Oh! Oh, he thinks I'm talking about a few song lyrics that you stole from mariah.

Tessa: Don'T.

Devon: What are you talking about, then? What is it?

Noah: Do you want to tell him? Uh, just ask her about san francisco. You know that little couples retreat that you sprung for?

Devon: Yeah, what about it?

Noah: Yeah, when we were stuck in the mosh pit, our girlfriends were back at the hotel room making out with each other. Right, baby?

Tessa: [ Scoffs ]

Noah: Now you know who that song is really about.

[ Music blares ]

Nick: Let's go.

Chelsea: Hey!

Sharon: Oh.

Chelsea: You know, I remember one time you mentioned to me that you love making soup. So I thought you might like this cookbook.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: You didn't have to do that. Thank you. Wow. Faith is gonna want to sample every one of these.

Chelsea: Yes, actually, i made her the tomato bisque last time she was at our place. Chapter three. Yeah. And nick's favorite is, um, actually a corn chowder. I think I might make it for him tonight.

Sharon: Sounds amazing.

Chelsea: One of my new year's resolutions is more family dinners.

Sharon: Well, nick always loved a home-cooked meal the best.

Chelsea: It's the least I can do. When he and christian moved into my home, we became a family, you know, and he's just so good at it. He makes everything look so effortless and so easy. It's just been a reminder of what a gift he's been to connor and me, so... actually, that's kind of what i wanted to talk to you about. Um, I feel like some of my words last time we spoke, I was a little bit thoughtless. I was so upset about losing that bottle of perfume that adam gave me, and I kind of freaked out, and I think I said some things that, I don't know, I'm just feeling a little bit guilty about, so I'm hoping we can just kind of forget the whole thing.

[ Chuckles ]

Sharon: You shouldn't give it another thought. Honestly, I just figured you were venting.

Chelsea: Great. Okay, thank you. Thank you.

Sharon: Thank you for the book.

Chelsea: Yes. Enjoy.

[ Footsteps approach ]

Hilary: I just came from the most amazing doctor's visit.

Chelsea: Hold it right there. Do not talk to me like we are friends or like I give a damn about what happens to you. At petsmart, we understand that different pets

Devon: Well, that sounds terrific. I'll wait, then, to hear back from you. You got it. All right, take care. Um, I need to step out of the office for a little bit, but I'll be back.

Tessa: Please. Please wait. Can -- can we talk about this?

Devon: What's to talk about?

Tessa: The kiss. We -- we -- we didn't plan it. It -- it was just one of those things. I mean, everything was fine and normal, and then it just happened. Both mariah and I were shocked. But right away I told her that i just wanted to be friends. I wasn't looking to cheat on noah with anyone, much less his sister.

Devon: And you didn't want to risk your record deal with her boyfriend, either, right?

Tessa: I tried to keep what happened with mariah a secret because I didn't want anyone to get hurt, including you. It's bad enough that noah and mariah hate my guts, but you were the first person to believe in my music, so much that I was the first artist you signed to your label. And all I've done is screw it up. And even though you're not with mariah anymore, I'm sure it can only feel like the worst kind of betrayal, and I feel so awful that I was a part of it.

Devon: Well... okay. And thank you.

Tessa: So now what?

Devon: We've talked about it now. You know, we can't change what happened. So I think the best thing to do is to just try and move forward. I'll be back after my meeting.

Tessa: Okay.

Cane: I know things here aren't the way they used to be.

Mattie: It's a big change with the nanny and the baby and the, you know, diaper updates and stuff.

Cane: At least charlie's adjusting without a hitch. You know, it's, uh, hard for me to expect you or your mom, too, though.

Mattie: I do want you back here. And I like thinking about all of us being together in the future.

Cane: But?

Mattie: But I just can't stop thinking about what you did and how it made mom feel. And then I wonder if I'll ever be able to, why'd you even want to be around a kid like that.

Cane: Look, sweetheart, all i can say to you is... that halloween night, when I was waiting to see if you and your brother were gonna survive that fire, everything just became clear to me. I'd never experienced agony like that before, and then when you and charlie, you walked out of there and you were safe, I was so grateful. And I said to myself that i would do whatever it would take to rebuild this family. If -- if it takes a long time, then I don't mind, 'cause you and your mom, you're worth it.

Billy: Look, I know you got a lot of eyes on you right now. You're feeling the pressure to decide your next move. Just... do me a favor, okay? Take your time. Collect as much intel as you possibly can before you make this huge decision.

Ashley: And I don't have to ask you to keep this on the down-low, correct?

Billy: I do have one more immature, uh, observation, if i could.

Ashley: Please.

Billy: Of all the places in the world to work, you're gonna go from jabot to newman enterprises. Sure gonna be a kick in the crotch to jack.

[ Cellphone rings ]

Lily: Ashley. Hi. What a surprise. What can I do for you?

Ashley: How would you feel about meeting me for a drink?

Lily: Oh, uh... yeah, I-I would love to.

Ashley: If you let me pick your brain, I'll pick up the tab.

Chelsea: What is that?

Hilary: Consider it an olive branch.

Chelsea: You exposed my entire ex-grifter, con-artist past to the entire world, and you think you're gonna make it up to me with a latte?

Hilary: Cappuccino. There's premium vanilla in there.

Chelsea: Enjoy.

Hilary: Okay, that sucked, and I apologize for what I did to you. My show is different now, and I'm different, too. Or at least I'm trying to be. I have real goals.

Chelsea: For god's sake.

Hilary: This is not about my career in broadcasting. I have personal goals. I'm trying to be the best woman that I can be, and I thought maybe you --

Chelsea: Okay, here's the thing. You got my coffee order right. Points for that. You want to reduce your negative, nasty footprint? Good for you. But I hate to tell you this, i think it's a little too late to rebrand your entire show, not to mention its producer, its namesake, and its star.

Hilary: We used to be friends.

Chelsea: Well, like you said, I made a lot of mistakes in my past.

Hilary: Something that we have in common. But it's a new year filled with new possibilities.

Chelsea: Okay, let me tell you something. People don't change. They are who they are, and then they stay that way. The only thing that changes is their ability to hide it. Sometimes even from themselves.

Charlie: Knock, knock.

Tessa: Hi.

Charlie: Hey. Is, uh, devon around?

Tessa: Uh, you're the nephew, right? Charles?

Charlie: Well, charlie, normally, unless my mom's getting ready to chew me out. You're tessa porter, right? You here to record a new song?

Tessa: Uh, not today. Did you tell devon you were coming by?

Charlie: No, I was just in the neighborhood playing basketball. Thought I'd drop by and say hey.

Tessa: Well, sorry. He's out at meetings. Um, but I can tell him you stopped by.

Charlie: Okay. Uh, but, I mean, I don't have anywhere to go. I don't mind waiting. Maybe we can talk.

Tessa: About what?

Charlie: Music. I mean, I love all different genres and styles. I think what you guys do is mad cool.

Tessa: Well, it can be at times.

Charlie: So, uh, what's it like recording and performing for a living?

Tessa: You know, it, uh, it definitely has its ups and downs.

Sharon: Thanks for helping out. One barista ran off to the dentist because she broke her crown sampling biscotti, and the other one I had to send home before he infected us all with the flu.

Mariah: Well, hilary didn't come back from lunch. Some doctor's appointment. So you have me all day.

Sharon: Uh, well, maybe not entirely.

Mariah: I think I know what this is about, so I won't be long.

Sharon: Take your time.

Mariah: Yeah.

Devon: Hey.

Mariah: Hi. Can I get you anything?

Devon: Sure. Uh, but I'd like to talk to you first.

Mariah: Look, if you're going to try to convince me to sign off on tessa using those lyrics, can you please just drop it? Because I really thought that you understood me the last time we talked.

Devon: Well, I thought so, too, but I think I have a better grasp on things now.

Mariah: You do?

Devon: I do, because I know what they were about, and I know who you had in mind when you wrote them.

Ashley: Hi. Thank you so much for joining me.

Lily: Of course. I was too curious to make you wait, especially when you told me that it was top secret.

Ashley: [ Laughs ] Well, maybe that was just a little melodramatic of me. The truth is, I know that you're fairly new to newman, and, um, I'm looking for a fresh perspective.

Lily: Oh, um, I don't know what you heard, but I don't gossip, and I can't talk about anything confidential or corporate with a newman competitor.

Ashley: Of course. Um, I probably should have been up front from the very beginning. I am no longer with jabot.

Lily: What?

Ashley: And this part is highly confidential. There's an offer on the table for me to join newman enterprises.

Lily: Wow. And you called me because you are considering it?

Ashley: Well, it would depend on the parameters of the position. But that hasn't been decided yet. This is a fishing expedition.

Lily: Okay, well, given what you did at jabot, I'm sure you would want some autonomy.

Ashley: A lot of it, actually. For this to make any sense for me, it would have to be a top-level job with oversight spanning multiple divisions.

Lily: I'm, uh, I'm curious how victoria would react to this.

Ashley: Well, I'm sure you must have an idea of how she'd stand.

Lily: Yeah, well, she's very into being victor's number two. You know, I think she sees herself as being the newman enterprises heir apparent, which I'm sure is how victor got her to come back. And I think you coming on board this way would make her feel like you're sort of stepping on her sacred turf. I'm curious. What was her reaction to your offer?

Ashley: Victoria... doesn't know anything about it. And until I make my decision, i would like to keep it that way.

Mariah: This is a conversation I-I never wanted to have with you. I didn't know how to explain it when we were together, and i still don'T. I like you so much. I always have. And the thought of... hurting you now or when we were together...

Devon: I believe you.

Mariah: I just want you to know that those feelings started after we were seeing each other, and I didn't know what they were or what they meant, much less what to do with them, how to discuss them with somebody else. I could barely face them myself. Trust me, I'm not making any excuses. Yes, I was confused, and yes, i didn't know what to do, but i knew one thing -- that i couldn't stay in a relationship with somebody when I felt so conflicted.

Devon: Well, you didn'T. I mean, you broke things off.

Mariah: But I took too long. And what's worse is I didn't tell you why.

Devon: You know, I'm sure my ego took a little bit of a hit, but I think I would have bounced back. I'm not that bad of a catch. At least that's what lily always says.

Mariah: No.

Devon: Don't worry.

Mariah: Don't let me off the hook by playing this cool and adorable. It wasn't about your ego. It was about me being honest with a friend, one of my best and closest friends. I just didn't know how to because I knew that it would cause more problems for tessa and noah, you... myself. And I'm very sorry.

Devon: Well, now that everything's out in the open, i mean, does that -- are you and tessa gonna, like...

Mariah: No, no, oh, no.

[ Sniffles ] Um, that train left the station a long time ago headed somewhere far, far away to a place that i can't pronounce the name of.

Devon: It's a pretty messed up situation, huh?

Mariah: You can be furious with me, you know.

Devon: Why would I do that? The heart wants what it wants, right?

Mariah: And to hell with the consequences. I added that last part. Can I ask you something?

Devon: Of course you can.

Mariah: Never mind.

Devon: Don't do that. Come on. You can ask me whatever you want.

Mariah: No, not this. Not after...

Devon: Is it about you and me? What's gonna happen now that i know the truth? Can we still be friends? Of course we can. I'm not going anywhere.

Mariah: Thank you. Thank you so much.

Devon: Of course.

Ashley: I apologize. I have kept you here much longer than I intended.

Lily: No, it's great. I normally don't get to do this. You caught me on a rare light day at newman.

Ashley: Lucky me.

Lily: Well, for both of us. Because if you end up working there, then I get a chance to pitch myself.

Ashley: I thought you answer to victoria.

Lily: Yes, but if you accept victor's offer, then I'm sure there will be a shake-up. And the ground floor of something new and exciting, which would be the perfect fit for me. I'm sorry. Forgive the corporate speak. Victoria's a great boss in many ways. But I do feel that since the transition, she's become overly focused on being the next victor. At brash & sassy, we had this upstart company versus the big-boys vibe, which was fun. But now it's more corporate and less personal. Nothing I would miss if i changed duties or had a different boss.

Ashley: I appreciate your honesty and your enthusiasm.

Lily: Will you keep me in mind?

Ashley: Honestly, I think we need to try to optimistically manage your expectations, because this deal is far from being done.

Lily: Well, if it happens -- and I hope it does -- I would love nothing more than to be a part of your team.

Ashley: Well, good to know. Um, can I walk you out? I'm sure you're eager to get home.

Lily: Uh, no, actually, i have some calls I have to make, so I'll just do it from here.

Ashley: Okay.

Lily: But thank you for everything, though.

Ashley: My pleasure. Good night.

Lily: Good night.

Mattie: Sam's finally asleep.

Cane: Cool.

Mattie: What?

Cane: Uh, looks like he conked out on your shoulder. You have some formula spit-up on your sweater.

Mattie: Oh, um... I-I didn't even notice.

Cane: Hazards of the job. Looks like your mom's, uh, stuck at the office, huh?

Mattie: Yeah, the way things are going on over there, we should probably get used to it.

Cane: It kind of gets depressing having, uh, dinner at your desk. Or in front of victoria's while she ignores the time and just plows ahead. Hey, um... how about you supervise the nanny for me since you are such a pro at the job.

Mattie: [ Scoffs ] As if. But sure. Where you going?

Cane: I am going to see if i can talk your mom into having dinner with me 'cause you know what? She deserves it. You okay?

Mattie: Mm-hmm.

Cane: All right, I'll see you.

Mattie: Bye.

Billy: [ Clears throat ]

Phyllis: So trust is nonexistent with us anymore?

Billy: Oh, no, no. Don't go there. I trust you completely. But in order to be trustworthy, I have to keep the secret. I'm sure you'll find out soon enough. I just hope that ashley doesn't make a huge mistake.

Phyllis: Hilary, hey. How are you?

Hilary: Good evening to both of you. It is so cold out there. It is so nice to see a couple of friendly faces.

Billy: [ Chuckles ]

Phyllis: Whoa, did we miss a show? What'd you do to upset people?

Billy: Again.

Hilary: No, no, I have big news, and it has zero to do with my show. I had a doctor's appointment today.

Phyllis: The fertility test results.

Hilary: It turns out that my ideal time to get pregnant is now.

Billy: Wow.

Hilary: So all I need is a donor.

Phyllis: And you don't mean cash to pay for medical expenses.

Hilary: Well, I actually found a very reputable sperm bank, so I have a card in here somewhere. Sorry. That's a list that I'm making. Qualities that I'm looking for in a donor.

Billy: Oh, really? Qualities, huh? Mind if I, uh, take a little gander?

Hilary: No.

Billy: Extremely good looking. Athletic. Great sense of humor. I mean, this is me, of course. When do we get started?

Hilary: [ Laughs ]

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ]

Billy: Just helping her out.

Devon: Hey!

Charlie: Hey.

Devon: It's a nice surprise. What are you doing here, man?

Charlie: I had some time to kill. Tessa was just showing me how you run things around here.

Devon: Oh, you must already have an idea from your sister. She learned a ton when she was interning.

Charlie: Um...yeah. Is that program still available?

Devon: You talking about for you?

Charlie: I get it. There might be people ahead of me, but I have one independent study credit to fill. Only if it means I wouldn't be in the way.

Devon: I know you're into music, but I didn't know you were interested in the business side of things.

Charlie: I am. For real. All aspects. Recording singles, putting together eps, working with deejays for remixes and club play. Um, discovering new artists and helping them develop.

Tessa: Well, he has a healthy curiosity, that's for sure.

Devon: I'll tell you what, man. I'll have a conversation with your mom, and if she's cool with it, we'll see if we can set something up for you.

Charlie: Seriously?

Devon: Yeah.

Charlie: That's dope! Thank you!

Devon: Anytime.

Charlie: Hey, um, I'll talk to my mom, too, all right? Hey, uh, later, tessa.

Tessa: Bye. So I guess you found my replacement.

Victor: Cane. My goodness. Nice to see you. Not often that the C.E.O. Of chancellor industries shows up unannounced.

Cane: I'm just a husband looking for his wife. Uh, have you seen her?

Victor: You know, I think i saw her leave a little while ago.

Cane: Oh, really? I thought she was in a meeting, uh, with victoria. Maybe she's in the office.

Victor: Well, that can't be, because victoria's out of town. Uh, if you excuse me, I need to take this. Nice to see you.

[ Door opens ]

[ Door closes ]

[ Cellphone rings ]

Lily: Hi.

Cane: Hey. I'm just checking in.

Lily: You know, I got to keep this brief. I'm -- I'm buried in work right now.

Cane: Meetings with victoria?

Lily: She's relentless. But, uh, I'll be home when i came. Did you have dinner?

Cane: Yeah, yeah. No worries.

Lily: Okay, well, I better go before victoria comes back.

Cane: Okay. Bye.

Lily: Bye.

Phyllis: Could I just give you a little piece of advice, please?

Hilary: Yeah, yeah. I want to hear it.

Phyllis: You know, just be flexible. This, um, sperm donor wish list is very thorough. Most guys could never check all those boxes, present company excluded, of course.

Hilary: Well, I do aim high.

Phyllis: Hilary, you have so much going for you, and I know you're gonna have it all. You know, just give it some time. Let nature do its bit.

Hilary: Thank you for those wise words.

Phyllis: Anytime.

Hilary: [ Sighs ] And bye, billy.

Billy: See you later. You know, she is right. You are wise.

Phyllis: Ah. Being driven is one thing, but letting it overwhelm your life choice down to the hair color of your yet-to-be-conceived baby, that is another thing.

Billy: Yeah, I feel for her. It's a big decision to have a kid.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Billy: Especially knowing you're gonna be doing it on your own. I mean, not in a relationship. I mean, if, you know, if we were to have a baby, it'd be a different story, of course.

Phyllis: Are you saying that you...

Billy: No, I mean... why? Are you?

Phyllis: Wait, do you?

Billy: No, no, no.

Phyllis: No, no, no, no, no, no.

Billy: No, I mean, I would say that we -- you know, our hands are full enough with the kids that we have, right?

Phyllis: Yeah. Yes. You said it.

Billy: Yeah, I did.

[ Sighs ] Glad we got that straightened out.

Phyllis: [ Chuckles ] Imagine me wearing maternity clothes again? No, thank you.

[ Chuckles ]

Ashley: Hello.

Victor: Ashley, come in.

Ashley: Your assistant is not at her desk.

Victor: She left for the evening. And I am just tying up some loose ends.

Ashley: Nothing critical, i hope.

Victor: Looking at the budget. Wondering if we can afford you.

Ashley: Any conclusions?

Victor: Turns out we can.

D

Devon: Hey, tessa. Look, I told you that you have a job here as long as you don't cause any headaches, and I meant that.

Tessa: And I appreciate it. I'm sorry if I put you on the spot about charlie. It was just after noah came by, all I could think about is how you shouldn't have seen that because that was the definition of a headache.

Devon: That was more noah than you. So let's just try and move past it. I say we're done for the day, so why don't you get your things and I'll walk you out?

Tessa: Oh, no, I'm okay. I have a few more things I want to finish before I head out.

Devon: It's your first day. You don't have to go all out.

Tessa: It's okay. It won't take long. Don't worry. I'll lock up.

Devon: Okay, suit yourself. See you tomorrow, all right?

Tessa: See you. Uh, devon? Thanks again. You're the best.

[ Door opens ]

Lily: Hi.

Cane: Hey.

Lily: Uh, sorry I was so clipped on the phone.

Cane: I understand. It's okay.

Lily: Yeah, victoria was like that all day. It was just go, go, go. It was exhausting. I think it's gonna be more of the same tomorrow, so, um, I'm gonna go to bed, okay? Good night.

Cane: Yeah, good night.

Ashley: I have been giving a lot of thought to your offer.

Victor: I bet you've compiled a list of conditions and demands before you accept the offer.

Ashley: You'd be correct. And even though the name newman is on this building and just about everything else, you would have to delegate some autonomy to an abbott.

Victor: Of course. You ran a multimillion-dollar company. Obviously I wouldn't want to create the impression that you were demoted.

Ashley: Nor would I.

Victor: Ah.

Ashley: That being said, i would have to have a seat on the board. I would have to have a development fund that I would have exclusive say over.

Victor: It's very reasonable. And I hope that you like the title that I suggested.

Ashley: Chief innovation officer.

Victor: Yeah. I think it's reflective of your iconic standing in the cosmetics industry.

Ashley: I like the sound of it, too. Although we'd have to agree on what kind of authority that would mean that I'd have here.

Victor: I think it will give a very clear signal to the business community on the outside and, of course, to people within newman here.

Ashley: Okay. And we need to have a list of all the divisions that I'd be overseeing. I hope that one of them would include brash & sassy.

Victor: Of course.

Ashley: I'm trying to be discreet, but what's the point? How does victoria fit into all this?

Victor: [ Chuckles ] I will deal with victoria, okay, in a manner that would please you. So... do we have a deal?

Chelsea: Nick? Hellooo! I'm home! I brought back burritos! Come get them while they're still caliente! You still painting? Did you hear me? This is taking a really long time.

Nick: Yeah, uh, this job got a little more complicated than i thought.
