Episode # 11219 ~ Cane fights to save his marriage; Reed comforts Mattie; Phyllis loses patience with Billy.
Provided By Suzanne
Phyllis: I have an idea. I say we go to the underground and we listen to some music and we dance.
Billy: [Sighs] I would love to, but I can't. I got to go back to the office.
Phyllis: Do you really want to be all work and no play?
Billy: Want? No. Have to? Yes.
Phyllis: Boo.
Billy: But unfortunately, it's gonna be awhile. Got a whole list of distributors that I got to try and schmooze. I got phone calls, video chats. I got to find a way to put a spin on cane's not so subtle reason for leaving the company, and I got to figure out how to get these sales numbers up.
Phyllis: Okay, well, that's what you're good at.
Billy: And I got to try and get in front of it before cane does something to damage the company.
Phyllis: Do you really think he would try to do that?
Billy: You heard the whiner. Always blaming Victoria for everything that's bad that's gone on in his miserable life.
Phyllis: So I'm assuming this schmoozefest was organized by Victoria. She does like to have little problem parties.
Billy: Actually, no, it was me. Right now it's all hands on deck.
Phyllis: But the other deckhands had to walk the plank, which means it's just Victoria...and you.
Victoria: I need a top-level exec. Hmm. No, not some fresh-faced graduate. No. [Sighs] Okay, somebody who's trustworthy, whose ethics are above reproach. No, no, no, no. She's not what I had in mind at all. No. Okay, my timeline, I need somebody in here like yesterday. No, not them. Look, just go do your job so I can do mine, please. Thank you. [Sighs]
Abby: That was my stepmother you were kissing!
Jack: I think Nikki explained what you walked in on.
Abby: Oh, please. Don't insult me. "Thank you" kiss, whatever that means. Why am I always the last -- oh, my god. That's why my dad was so upset. Nikki disappeared from the benefit party with you.
Jack: If Nikki and victor are having problems, it is not because of me.
Abby: Okay. We'll see if my dad agrees when I tell him what I just walked in on -- you in a liplock with his wife!
Jack: By all means, be my guest.
Hilary: Okay, take -- take a little more off right there.
Howard: Like this?
Hilary: Perfect. Ooh.
Howard: [Laughs]
Hilary: Victor packs quite a punch.
Howard: Oh, everybody's definitely staying tuned through the commercial break to see what comes after that.
Hilary: Yes. And with victor's verbal okay, we are legally protected to run this footage, right?
Howard: All of it. Uncensored and uncut.
Hilary: Perfect. That's what I like to hear.
Howard: Mm-hmm.
Hilary: [Sighs] You're not still upset with me for my words of wisdom earlier, are you? It's just that you haven't been in a lot of relationships, especially not with a guy like Devon, so as a friend, I just wanted to make sure that you were seeing things clearly.
Mariah: I see things very clearly.
Hilary: Good.
Mariah: What you told me about this intimate conversation you claim to have had with Devon where he admitted that he still wants to be with you. Yeah, it didn't happen. He didn't say any of those things to you. He wouldn't lie to somebody he doesn't love anymore, and he especially wouldn't lie to me.
Hilary: Actually, Devon didn't have to say anything.
Cane: I appreciate you taking the time to come and see me.
Devon: Yeah, I, um, I was surprised to hear from you at all.
Cane: Yeah, look, I-I know how you feel about me right now, okay?
Devon: It's not about you for me right now. I'm only concerned about my sister and my niece and my nephew.
Cane: We told the kids everything.
Devon: And how are they?
Cane: They're confused, and they're angry, and they're blindsided because... you know, it's not like lily and I were having problems before all of this. I mean, actually, our marriage was the best that it ever was.
Devon: Really?
Cane: And, um --
Devon: You sure about that?
Lily: Charlie reacted as expected. Mattie's trying to be mature about the whole thing, but how can she be?
Neil: Hmm. Yeah. I can't imagine how they handled that.
Lily: They're going through hell. But, I mean, they're strong, and we're gonna pull together as a family.
Neil: Does this family include cane?
Abby: Why are you doing this? What could you possibly have to gain by coming between my dad and Nikki?
Jack: For me to come between them, they would have to be together, Abby. They are no longer. Victor walked out on her.
Abby: There's no way, okay? I worked on that concert for weeks with my dad. It meant so much to him. He did it all for Nikki.
Jack: What you witnessed was the great man covering his own backside again, making amends again. And judging from the offerings, he had a lot to atone for.
Abby: My dad, he loves Nikki. He told me. Nikki can see it with her own eyes.
Jack: Your father loves all of his possessions. Nikki is no longer one of them, not that victor cares.
Abby: Of course he does. That's why you're doing this. You're trying to confuse Nikki to make my dad furious. When he finds out, he's gonna come after you. Is that what you want?
Jack: No, what I want is for you to start sounding a little bit more like an Abbott.
Abby: If you start this war again, you're making it mine. I'll be the one caught in the crossfire. I'll do what I have to.
Jack: That sounds like a threat, Abby. Something your father might say.
Abby: Don't make me choose.
Billy: This is a company that I helped rebuild from the rubble. And I know I don't have ownership stake in it anymore, but brash & sassy means a lot to me. I mean, I look at you, and I see what you and Lauren were able to do when you put your head down and you got to work. You came up with the virtual dressing room, which was amazing. That kind of drive, that persistence is what inspires me. Now Victoria and I have to try and do the same thing.
Phyllis: I hope you can make that happen.
Billy: Yeah, well, we just kind of have to come up with something as genius and as profitable as your app.
Phyllis: You will.
Billy: Brash & sassy needs to be my focus. It needs to be my life right now.
Phyllis: I understand.
[Cell phone chimes]
Billy: Excuse me. Oh. Speaking of, that's Victoria. "Important business. Please come to the office."
Phyllis: Go. I'll take care of the check. It's okay.
Billy: You sure?
Phyllis: Yes.
Billy: Thank you for being so amazing.
Phyllis: You're welcome. Thank you, cane, for being such a screw-up.
Charlie: You know, I hope you're happy.
Reed: What's your problem now?
Charlie: Your mom, my dad. Don't act all ignorant.
Reed: Yeah, I heard. She had to fire him.
Charlie: She didn't have to, okay? And it's messed up my family, and it sucks beyond belief.
Reed: I'm sorry, man, but you can't blame me.
Cane: Lily's struggling with all of this, uh, especially now that there's a child involved. And, um, it's just gonna take some time for everyone to heal.
Devon: I heard Victoria let you go, too.
Cane: Yeah, and I keep thinking to myself that maybe if Jill was here, she could have talked her out of it, and instead Juliet gets this big payout for something I didn't do. And all she did was lie about it.
Devon: Yeah, well, you know, you lied, as well. 'Cause I asked you point blank and warned you not to lie to lily, and she defended you and believed you.
Cane: I did not sexually harass Juliet.
Devon: You got her pregnant.
Cane: I did not coerce her into sex in return for a job, okay? At least lily knows that that is the truth.
Devon: The truth is you made a fool out of your wife. And anything else you're saying is pretty much an excuse.
Cane: Well, I wasn't sneaking around behind my wife's back living the lie.
Devon: You really want to go there?
Billy: [Sighs] Hey.
Victoria: Hi.
Billy: I'm gonna get on the phone with the west coast retailers and talk up the bright, shiny future that's just around the corner.
Victoria: Lying. Well, that's a good first step.
Billy: Come on, that's not a lie. We had one bad quarter. That's in the rearview mirror, and we're gonna turn this thing around. I promise.
Victoria: Thank you for taking this on because I'm up to my eyeballs trying to replace cane.
Billy: What? You don't think the two of us can pull this off?
Victoria: Maybe if we set up two cots in this office. [Chuckles] An experienced top-shelf exec is gonna help us to get back on track much more quickly.
Billy: Well, as brutal as the hours are and missing the kids, it's a much better vibe around here without cane.
Victoria: Yeah, I don't miss the arguments, that's for sure.
Billy: There's an added incentive, too. Making my big brother eat his words.
Victoria: What do you mean?
Billy: Well, he came down here and he was gloating about our sales figures, offered to buy us out.
Victoria: That piece of --
Billy: Hey, abs.
Abby: Hi.
Victoria: Hi, Abby.
Billy: Hey.
Victoria: What are you doing here?
Abby: You guys seem busy. I'm sorry to interrupt.
Victoria: What's going on? This is a rare appearance.
Abby: I actually came for a couple reasons. Uh, first things first, um, I thought something this important needed to be said in person.
Jack: You're here late.
Phyllis: I get more done when the phone's not ringing. Billy's at it, too, so I'll probably be here all night.
Jack: They're probably sweating their latest sales figures.
Phyllis: Your brother's on a mission. He's working overtime with Victoria.
Jack: They got to dig themselves out of a pretty big hole. They cannot afford another bad quarter.
Phyllis: Especially now with cane gone.
Jack: Yeah. Billy told me that Victoria fired him.
Phyllis: Yeah, well, it couldn't be happening at a worse time.
Jack: I think it's the right move, after everything that company's been through. Even Jill thinks that cane is guilty as sin.
Phyllis: Yeah, well, he didn't do any favors for that company or his wife.
Jack: Well, I guess it's a good thing for lily, anyway.
Phyllis: How do you figure?
Jack: It's far too awkward for spouses to work together when one of them has cheated. Wouldn't you agree?
Lily: Cane has begged me to take as much time as I need to deal with all of this.
Neil: Well, yeah. I mean, that sounds like good advice. Little -- little self-serving, maybe, but, um, you do have a family to consider, babe.
Lily: I know. It's just that Charlie and Mattie's world has already been shaken. I don't want to rush into a decision and make things worse.
Neil: Staying together for the kids' sake isn't always what's best. How strongly do you feel that you two can fix things?
Lily: I don't know. We've gotten through tough times before.
Neil: Yeah, but this one's different. There's another woman involved. There's an unborn child to consider.
Lily: Look, I know things will never be the same. I know that, and I'm hurt, but... I love him. Does that make me a fool?
Neil: No, no, no, no, it doesn't. It makes you human. Hey. Cane's a solid man. He's committed to you and the twins.
Lily: And he's devastated. The way they look at him now... and when I told them that he got let go, they offered to pitch in. I mean, they are such good kids.
Neil: Yeah, I know they are. So what are you gonna do when Juliet's pregnancy becomes public knowledge? How will the three of you feel then?
Lily: I don't know. I told cane, regardless of the circumstances, he needs to be there for that child.
Neil: I am so proud of you. The strength of character that you've shown throughout this, it is admirable.
Lily: Cane's made mistakes. And I have, too, and he stood by me.
Neil: Hey, kiddo. Your husband had to decide for himself what he could live with. Now you're gonna have to do the same.
Cane: Devon, I screwed up, and I own that now, okay? And I need you to know how much I love your sister, and I'm gonna fight like hell to save our family. And I know how much family means to you, so this is really hard for me to ask, but... I need a job. And I know that you and Neil started the Hamilton-winters group. I know you need execs with experience. And I can make an immediate impact. I know I have value 'cause I know how hard it is for Victoria to try and fill my position. I know this.
Devon: You're confident.
Cane: No, it's not confidence. It's fact.
Devon: All right. It's a very big thing to ask me.
Cane: I know.
Devon: I would have to discuss it with Neil 'cause we're equal partners.
Cane: I want to let you know I'm gonna work hard, 'cause I have to prove myself to a lot of people. And all I'm asking you for is a chance.
Hilary: Make sure that pop comes in right at the end because I want to leave them with a cliffhanger.
Howard: Love it.
Hilary: All right, do you have that?
Mariah: Yeah.
Hilary: Thank you.
Mariah: Look, Devon admits that there are some unresolved issues between the two of you. And I get it. I'm not threatened. Relationships are complicated, and he can still care about you while he's involved with me.
Hilary: Well, how progressive of you. You really expect me to believe that you're fine with your boyfriend just pining away for his ex-wife?
Mariah: He isn't pining.
Hilary: It is adorable that you still believe that you're enough for him.
Mariah: He seems to think so.
Hilary: Of course he would say that. Devon can be insatiable. There was days that he would come home after a long day, and he would be so fired up that he would just make love to me right there on that kitchen floor. [Sighs] But I digress. I'm sure you are enough for him.
Mariah: Hilary, you're assuming that he's enough for me.
Hilary: [Scoffs] Okay, I think --
Mariah: Don't you have a show to edit? [Sighs deeply]
Tessa: Nice one.
Mariah: Thanks.
Tessa: Just don't let her get to you.
Mariah: Easy for you to say.
Charlie: You've inflicted enough damage on my family, so don't bother my sister anymore.
Reed: Shouldn't that be Mattie's call?
Charlie: You think just 'cause you've taken a few dumb selfies together, you know my sister better than I do?
Reed: Well, yeah, I think --
Mattie: Stop! Why are you two always doing this?
Reed: Charlie's upset about what's happened with your pops. And I get that. I wish I could have done something.
Charlie: Yeah, right!
Mattie: It's the truth. Reed offered to talk to his mom, and I told him not to.
Charlie: Why would you do that?! It's obvious she made a huge mistake!
Reed: Whoa. My mom's not the one who lied. Your dad totally ruined her lawsuit, lost my mom a ton of cash.
Charlie: Yeah, but that Juliet person made the whole thing up just to make money!
Reed: That might be so, but your dad did sleep with her.
Mattie: Stay away from us!
Charlie: That's weak, man.
Mattie: Maybe Charlie's right. Maybe you should just stay away from me.
Abby: I wanted to make sure you were okay after last night.
Victoria: I'm fine.
Abby: And I wanted to apologize.
Victoria: It's okay.
Abby: I feel terrible.
Billy: Hold on. I thought it was a stereotypical moment of klutziness.
Victoria: Well, as much as you'd love to think that, not this time.
Lily: Hey. Hello.
Abby: Hi.
Billy: Hey.
Lily: Um, is this a good time? I have a work-related question.
Billy: You know what? Let's -- let's step out in the lab and get some privacy. What's going on?
Lily: Uh, I'm a little uncomfortable asking.
Billy: Well, don't be. Ask away.
Lily: You know that I'm the sole breadwinner while cane is looking for work. And, um, after the L.A. Trip, that agent Barry expressed interest in me.
Billy: I remember.
Lily: And I was interested, too, until he contacted Victoria without asking me and got really pushy about my contract. I knew that she was irritated, so I didn't think it was worth the friction, and I told Barry at the time that I wasn't interested.
Billy: Well, it's kind of a moot point, isn't it? I mean, you're on an exclusive contract with brash & sassy for modeling.
Lily: Right. But Barry mentioned commercials and hosting, and I would like to reach out to him.
Billy: [Sighs]
Lily: Look, I don't know if cane will ever get a job as good as the one he had here, you know, and I want to work more anyway. It was a bummer that that ad we shot never aired.
Billy: Yeah, for you and me both.
Lily: So, if Barry can send me out on additional jobs, I can make some extra money to help get us through this rough patch.
Billy: Well, as long as we keep you first option and none of your other jobs have any direct conflict with brash & sassy, no personal care, no cosmetics, I'm sure it's fine. So go for it.
Lily: Really? Thank you.
Billy: The last thing Victoria and I want to do is hold you back, lily, okay? You've been amazing for us, and we really appreciate that.
Lily: Okay. Thank you so much. I really appreciate it. I'm gonna call Barry right now.
Billy: Okay.
Abby: I honestly don't know what got into me last night.
Victoria: Hmm. I'm fine. It's already forgotten.
Abby: Well, I'm surprised you didn't tell Billy I threw a drink in your face.
Victoria: You didn't mean for me to fall.
Abby: You are being so nice about this. It's making me feel even worse. I mean, if we were at a bar and a guy was being obnoxious and you [Distorted] Decided to cool him off with your drink, I mean, that's one thing, but I was really stressed out. You pushed my buttons, and I just blew. And I'm sorry. It was very immature, and I promise it will never, [Normal voice] Ever happen again. Are we okay?
Hilary: Ooh! We have got to promote the hell out of this.
Howard: I've already bought ad time. It's not every day we get up close and personal with the premier family in town as they descend into chaos.
Hilary: And our story is untouchable thanks to victor giving us his blessing.
Howard: See, that's the part I still don't get.
Hilary: Well, you don't have to, Howard. See, we're scratching his back, he's scratching ours, and that is all that either of us needs to know.
Howard: I think you should narrate, add an extra layer to the segment.
Hilary: Yeah. Mariah already wrote some copy, so I got to take a look.
Howard: She writes?
Tessa: So Noah and I ran into each other, and he seemed really good about it. He opened up and told me some really personal stuff. It felt nice to be that trusted and...
Mariah: Needed?
Tessa: Yeah. And I realized the only person I could talk to about it was you.
Mariah: Well, I'm glad that you did, Tessa.
Tessa: Can we get out of here? She creeps me out.
Mariah: Welcome to my world.
Devon: Cane asked for a sitdown earlier to pitch himself for an executive position.
Neil: That took guts.
Devon: Well, he's in a very tough spot.
Neil: You know, Devon, I'm very surprised at your, uh, sympathetic behavior.
Devon: Well, don't get me wrong. I mean, I'm furious with the guy for hurting people that I love. But, you know, thinking about this whole situation, it's not just about cane. It's about lily and the twins and our family, and he's just trying to provide for them. And I can only imagine how interviews are going, you know. They look at his résumé and they're ready to give him the world and then find out why he actually got fired from his last job. And I doubt that Victoria is ready to write him a glowing recommendation. And I don't believe that he sexually harassed that woman.
Neil: Hey. What do we know about this? We know that he lied.
Devon: Yeah, he lied about sex, though. And I don't know about you, but I'm the last damn person to judge anybody when it comes to that.
Neil: Good point.
Devon: This is about our family, and regardless of how we feel about cane's behavior, I don't know how we could just turn our backs.
Lily: Where were you?
Cane: Um, I, uh, I went to see Devon at the club, and I asked him if I could maybe get a job at the Hamilton-winters group.
Lily: And?
Cane: You know, he said he has to discuss it with Neil first, you know. You know, I'm not getting my hopes up because I know how they feel about me, though.
Lily: No one's interested in kicking you while you're down.
Cane: You know, when I came in through the door and the house was so quiet, I, uh, I couldn't help but think this is it and this is my life now, and it's just... it's all gone.
Lily: I'm here, cane. I'm hurt. But I still love you.
Cane: Come here. Come here.
Phyllis: Cane's life has blown up. Blames Victoria for every bad thing in his life, and I don't know, Billy and he are like oil and water.
Jack: Well, we both know where Victoria's bread is buttered in that situation.
Phyllis: Other than the workload, Billy is not sad to see him go.
Jack: Cane is the one who brought in that Asian deal, not Billy.
Phyllis: And after the papers were signed, he decided to get rip-roarin' drunk and sleep with the closest colleague, which was very bad judgment.
Jack: Cane's a free agent. Maybe I should give him a call, set up a meeting.
Phyllis: He has worked here years ago. He knows the industry.
Jack: Certainly knows where all the bodies are buried at brash & sassy.
Phyllis: I imagine so. What?
Jack: I'm just wondering what's in this for you.
Hilary: Hi. Tessa, right?
Tessa: Yeah.
Hilary: I'm Hilary Curtis. I just wanted to come and say that your performance at the concert, it was incredible. It was the perfect opening act.
Tessa: Well...
Mariah: Tessa is one of the first artists that Devon signed to his streaming service. She goes into the recording studio this week.
Hilary: Wow. Well, that's exciting. Congratulations.
Tessa: Thanks.
Mariah: She is an absolutely incredible talent. It's why Devon snatched her up.
Tessa: Well, you know, sometimes you just know when something feels right, like a certain spark between two people. That's why I decided to work with Devon.
Hilary: Well, it sounds like the two of you have quite the connection. How neat.
Tessa: Oh. [Chuckles] Oh, no, no, no, no. I think you misheard me. I was talking about the chemistry between Mariah and Devon. Ooh, it's off the charts. Their connection is so magical and so deep, it -- it makes me want to write a song.
Hilary: Oh.
Tessa: You know what? I think I'm going to. And I'm gonna name it after the two of them. Mm-hmm. It's gonna be called... "Maron." Or "Deviah." I'm sure I'll think of something. I am an artist, after all.
Hilary: Well, it was really a treat meeting you. I have to get back to work.
Mariah: Okay. That was absolutely brilliant. Thank you so, so, so, so, so much.
Tessa: I just -- I don't care who she thinks she is. She cannot mess with my girl Mariah.
Mariah: [Chuckles]
Victoria: [Sighs] You said you came by for a couple of reasons. You already apologized again, so what's the other reason? Something serious.
Abby: I walked in on jack and Nikki kissing.
Victoria: I'm sorry. What?
Abby: Jack claimed that dad walked out on Nikki, and then I went off on him.
Victoria: Well, I know mom left the party early because she was upset about what happened between dad and nick, but I never imagined that she would turn to jack.
Abby: Well, I tried to explain to jack that this would only start another war, but he had that reckless look in his eye, almost like he welcomed the idea.
Victoria: Knowing jack, he probably does.
Abby: Look, I want to stop this before it goes any further. Can you please talk to Nikki? Whatever she is doing with jack, it's only designed to make dad furious. I refuse to believe that she's not in love with him anymore.
Victoria: Do you want my two cents?
Abby: Please.
Victoria: Just stay out of it. Focus on your job. I'm not about to tell my mother how to live her life, and you shouldn't, either. This is a family matter that really doesn't concern you.
Abby: I'm sorry that you feel that way.
Victoria: I'm just telling you the truth.
Abby: Victoria, when this bomb goes off, when it explodes, guess who's gonna be hit with the fallout? Let me give you a hint. The only Newman with Abbott blood.
Victoria: What do you expect me to do, Abby? You want me to follow you around with an umbrella?
Abby: Well, I thought that you'd give a damn about your mom trashing her marriage. Obviously you don't.
Reed: Come on. When has Charlie ever been right about anything, especially when it comes to you and me? Is he really the boss of you?
Mattie: Please. My brother doesn't tell me what to do or who I can see.
Reed: You know, I've... I've been thinking about you a lot lately, and... the last time I saw you, you were really upset. I thought it was me, that maybe I did something.
Mattie: I've been trying to keep myself busy so I don't have time to think about the huge disaster my dad has turned my family into.
Reed: Yeah. I feel really bad for you guys about everything, but when Charlie started putting down my mom, I-I couldn't take that.
Mattie: He just doesn't want to believe that this is our dad's fault.
Reed: I understand.
Mattie: I look at my dad so differently now. He used to be my hero.
Reed: You know my parents are divorced, right?
Mattie: Yeah.
Reed: They split when I was a little kid. I don't actually remember them together. I learned early that parents are just people. They make mistakes. They hurt each other, hurt us. You got to learn to rely on yourself, 'cause nobody's gonna help you.
Mattie: I do know one thing, though. My mom still loves my dad with her whole heart. I can see it.
Reed: Well, that's great. Maybe your family will be one of the lucky ones.
Cane: I know that I have a long way to go to win back your trust. But if the kids can see their parents pulling together, it just might give them that sense of hope.
Lily: I'm with you. That's what I want is to keep our family together.
Cane: I'm so relieved to hear you say that.
Billy: Abby was cool when she arrived. Now she's leaving in a huff. What's up?
Victoria: Oh, if this week couldn't get any worse for me.
Billy: What happened?
Victoria: [Sighs] Abby saw my mother making out with jack.
Billy: What?! No, no, that -- that couldn't have happened. I'm sure she misheard or...
Victoria: She saw them.
Billy: Wow.
Victoria: Don't act so shocked. It's right in character. Jack the opportunist always trying to stir up trouble between me and my family. It's like the one joy of his life.
Billy: Right, and I'm sure your mom was pushing him away the whole time? Come on, Vick. You know it takes two people to lock lips.
Victoria: Naturally you'd defend him.
Billy: Me defend him, my brother, my staunchest ally?
Victoria: It's instinctive! Come on! You can't help yourself! It's classic Abbott bad boy behavior. I swear sometimes you are exactly like him.
Billy: Really? You're gonna throw around [Distorted] Insults like this? Come on. Don't take your frustration out on me. They're consenting adults. If they want to pull the tail of the dragon [Normal voice] And get singed, it's their business.
Victoria: I better not catch your brother on the elevator making out with my mom.
Mattie: I've been reading a lot of Victorian novels lately for AP lit. They talk about, like, fate a lot and how people are meant to be together.
Reed: I'm not big in the whole Victorian novel thing, but I do know about fate.
Mattie: I thought it was something that was only in movies and in books. But meeting you and finding out our parents worked together and just all these different connections, it's got me thinking. I'm dealing with the worst thing that's ever happened to me, and here you are able to understand and actually make me feel better.
Neil: You know how much I appreciate your loyalty to our family and wanting to help lily. That said, we need to think things through all the way, consider the possibility that things could go south with cane and lily. And if they do, we are stuck with that man and all that bad blood. That could be a problem for our new business. We don't need that.
Devon: Yeah.
Neil: You got a big heart. You always have. Now, don't forget, when he got backed into a corner, what'd he do? He lied. He lied like hell. I'm not saying that he doesn't have, you know, a lot of talent, because he absolutely does. But I don't think that we want to take this on. It's better not to bring family problems into the business. Let cane find another solution, man.
Devon: Yeah, no, you're right. It is too early to do that. It's, you know... sometimes you just got to be able to say no.
Jack: I'm a little surprised you're encouraging me to recruit cane.
Phyllis: No, you're misinterpreting.
Jack: Am I?
Phyllis: Yes. We were chatting about the competition. You were the one who was batting around the business idea, and that's all it was. In fact, I was talking about how much of a pain in Billy's backside he is. You were the one who suggested an exploratory meeting.
Jack: You are living with one of the two remaining executives at brash & sassy, who happens to work with his ex.
Phyllis: I am fine with that.
Jack: I'm sure you are. But if I were to hire cane and use his proprietary knowledge of brash & sassy to take the company down or to win it in a hostile takeover and then kick Victoria to the curb, might make some peace in your home. I'm sure that wouldn't be a problem in your world, would it?
Phyllis: Good night, jack. Don't work too hard.
Cane: You're reached cane Ashby. Please leave me a message and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.
Jack: Cane, jack Abbott here. Give me a call when you get this. I'd like to set up a meeting.
Lily: Wait, wait. I can't -- I can't -- I can't do this.
Cane: It's been so long. It's been so long.
Lily: No, did -- did you really think that I would want to?
Cane: Baby, you said you love me.
Lily: Cane, half a mile from here, another woman is carrying your child! And yeah, I-I want to forget and I want to make this work, but that's a fact that becomes a reality in less than nine months! How could I make love to you when I know that?! [Sighs]
Cane: Lily. Sweetheart. [Sighs] [Groans]
Next on "the young and the restless"...
Dina: Take my advice. Younger men ask for so little and they give so much.
Nick: You're arrogant and heartless!
Victor: [Grunts]
Hilary: It looks like father and son have a very different relationship from what they show the public.
