Episode # 11147 ~ The Newman family make a dangerous pact; Lauren plays matchmaker for Phyllis; Gloria worries about Kevin.

Provided By Suzanne

Lauren: Come on in. Um, honey, did we have an early meeting that I forgot?

Phyllis: No. We did not. But I saw "GC buzz," and I was worried about Kevin and you and Michael.

Lauren: Yeah. I mean, we were very shocked. And Kevin is coping. Michael and Scott are talking to him today.

Phyllis: You know, when the world is going straight to hell, you need a strong support system, so you consider me yours, all right?

Lauren: And I always do. And you always come through.

Phyllis: Yeah.

Lauren: Now, if you really want to help me, you can forget about me and my family's situation... ...and you can talk to me about you.

Gloria: I guess you saw Chelsea on "GC buzz." I know Adam Newman was your friend. This must be very upsetting.

Jack: It's how I had come to accept his death, as a random bolt of bad luck. Even somebody young and full of fire can be in the wrong place at the wrong time, but to find out he was murdered...

Gloria: Yeah, well, Chloe tricked us all. I knew she was trouble and manipulative and deceitful... but a murderer? Maybe that's the only way she could deal with the death of her little girl. I'm so worried about Kevin, jack!

Jack: Yeah, he's got to be a wreck.

Gloria: He's shut down. He's just broken. I'm gonna be there for as long as it take to fix him, if he can be fixed.

Jack: Kevin's a survivor. He'll find a way through this. He will.

Gloria: No one should have to see their child suffer. It's the worst kind of hell. But at least my son is alive. Victor just found out that his was murdered.

Jack: Save your sympathy and tears for Kevin. They're wasted on Victor. Talk about dead inside.

Gloria: You really think he feels nothing for his children?

Jack: I think the people in his family are possessions that he can control or dispose of when they're no longer of use.

Victor: So, how are you doing?

Chelsea: Not well. I have a lot of emotions running through my body, most of them not pleasant.

Victor: I bet. Not surprising, considering what that woman has put you through.

Chelsea: How are you? I mean, you and Adam came so close to rebuilding your relationship, so to have somebody just rip him out of your life again...

Victor: Not somebody. Chloe Mitchell. It gives me chills to think that she spent time under the same roof with you and my grandson.

Chelsea: If you had asked me yesterday if she could ever hurt Connor and me, I would have said, "absolutely not," but now I can't rule that out.

Victor: Did she ever tell you why she came back to Genoa city and what the purpose for her being here was?

Chelsea: No. I keep racking my brain, trying to think of something I could have missed -- clues, hints I could have missed -- but nothing.

Victor: I guess it doesn't make a difference now. We know the truth.

Chelsea: When I think of all of the lies that she spewed -- every single word out of that woman's mouth was a lie. I just wish she never came back to town. Think of all of the pain we could have avoided.

Billy: You know, it's normal to be nervous about your driving test.

Reed: I know, um, but could we not talk about it? I just don't want to, like, jinx it or anything.

Billy: There's no such thing as jinxing! On a related note, your mother's spine is completely unaffected by stepping on cracks.

Reed: I know, right? And the tooth fairy doesn't exist, either.

Billy: Huh?

Reed: You're so easy.

Billy: Just for that, you don't get your birthday present, boy.

Reed: I see you already got me one.

Billy: Oh, this? No, no. This is actually just an empty box, garbage. Go throw it away for me, please.

Reed: Whoa! This is really cool! Is this vintage?

Billy: It's older than me, so, yeah, it's vintage. I figured you could put your mom's extra car key on there once you pass your test.

Reed: This is awesome, Billy. Thank you. Hey, mom! Come check out my new present!

Billy: She's not here. Something came up, and she had to go to your grandparents' house, so...

Reed: All right, um, whatevs.

Billy: She said she'll be back for your party.

Reed: That's cool.

Billy: Well. [Clears throat] What do you say? It's about that time. Let's get you to the DMV, make you street legal.

Reed: Yeah, um, that's great. Could we, um, try parallel parking one more time?

Billy: [Laughs] Come on.

Nick: Mom, what you said earlier about letting Chloe get away with murder, you know that's not an option, right? We are gonna find her.

[Door closes]

Nikki: Hey, sweetheart.

Victoria: Hi, mom.

Nikki: How are you doing?

Victoria: Good. It was a little bit of a difficult morning, acting like everything was normal in front of the kids.

Nick: Does reed know?

Victoria: Yeah, I told him. He seems to be handling it just fine. Billy took him for his driving test.

Nikki: Oh, God! In all this chaos, I totally forgot his birthday.

Victoria: Well, the good news is, he's got a lot of distractions. I wish I could say the same thing for myself.

Nick: It's gonna get worse. Soon. Chloe's not gonna be the only one who goes to prison. When the police find out what dad did, bringing Chloe back to town to help him frame Adam, and then helping her escape... the police need to know this. I'm gonna go see Paul right now.

Nikki: No, Nicholas. That is not what you're going to do.

Jack: I know that Victor is constantly trumpeting his deep devotion for his family. That is pr, nothing more. Believe me.

Gloria: Do you really believe he didn't love Adam?

Jack: I believe he loves power, that life is one big long, brutal chess game for him, and his children are just pawns in it. They mess with the mustache, there's trouble to be had.

Gloria: Adam certainly suffered at Victor's hands, long before Chloe got her claws into him.

Jack: Well, what about Nicholas and Victoria? They'd sooner take a job as a dog catcher than work for Newman enterprises again.

Gloria: Abby's over there now, isn't she?

Jack: Yeah, I worry about her. She's trying so hard to impress her father, she doesn't realize getting his love and support comes at quite a cost.

Gloria: I've sure made extreme demands on my boys. They've always put up with me.

Jack: For what it's worth, I think Michael and Kevin are fonder of you than you give them credit for.

Gloria: That's very sweet of you to say, jack. I know they have no idea how much I love them.

Jack: Yeah, maybe they don't.

Gloria: My campaign against Chloe was me trying to protect Kevin. Because I knew she would crush him sooner or later.

Jack: Maybe sooner is better in this case.

Gloria: Yeah, well, not soon enough for him to see that she was poison.

Jack: I know a bit about falling for someone who's nothing like what you thought they were.

Lauren: One skim milk double latte. Careful, it's hot.

Phyllis: Ah, see, now you know everything that matters about me, what's left to discuss?

Lauren: [Laughs] Nice try.

Phyllis: If this is a pop-quiz about the future of Fenmore's app, the notes are on my laptop.

Lauren: Shoptalk? That's not fun! Let's talk about your love life.

Phyllis: I don't have a love life.

Lauren: Exactly. That's why we need to talk about it.

Phyllis: What is bringing this on?

Lauren: Every time I talk to you, you're either working or working out or home for the night, sleeping... alone, I'm presuming?

Phyllis: I am exercising and I'm employed. Some would call that having it all.

Lauren: I'm serious. Come on, you shouldn't be single for the summer. You're too much of a treasure for that.

Phyllis: Okay, I love that you're thinking of me that way, and I love that you are worried like that, but whatever the season is, I do not need a man to enjoy it.

Lauren: Of course you don't!

Phyllis: Or to complete, define, or validate me.

Lauren: Never said that you did, okay?

Phyllis: Okay.

Lauren: I'm just saying that you've been single for a while now.

Phyllis: And like you said, I'm a treasure. And the longer that treasure stays buried, the more valuable it becomes.

Lauren: [Laughs]

Victor: You know, we both have the same wish, that that lunatic wouldn't have returned to Genoa city.

Chelsea: [Sniffles] Yeah. Everything would be different.

Victor: I would have my husband, Connor would have his father, you would have your son. You've launched your own search for Chloe, right? You're not waiting for the police?

Victor: Mnh-mnh. So far, we haven't come up with a damn thing.

Chelsea: How is she able to get away with this?

Victor: I have no idea, but I'm going to find out, I promise you.

Chelsea: I mean, she scammed me, of all people. God, whoever taught her to lie, she's pretty brilliant at it. I mean, this isn't like just scamming a couple stranger, you know? I mean, she faked an entire friendship! An entire friendship! Oh, she must be laughing at me. She must think I'm so stupid. She must have thought I was so naive.

Victor: Chelsea, don't do that, okay? She scammed all of us.

Nick: Mom, is this why you asked us to come over?

Victoria: You're gonna defend dad until you get us to agree to help you protect him from justice?

Nikki: All right, hold on a second. Will you please calm down and listen to me? I have no intention of ignoring your father's alliance with Chloe. He will be held accountable.

Victoria: Why should this time be any different?

Nikki: Well, because thanks to your father, some of the responsibility of this horrific chain of events is mine -- not a lot of it, but enough to haunt me for the rest of my life.

Nick: You're blaming yourself?

Nikki: Just a minor part of it. I mean, I can't deny this. I did bring Chelsea an untraceable cell phone when Adam was planning on fleeing the country, and I did lie about it to the police so that Victor could evade them.

Victoria: In the big picture, these things are so minor!

Nikki: My most major crime was allowing Victor to get exactly what he wants again, and he was counting on that! [Sighs] Me and my blind faith! My unconditional love and my belief that, underneath it all, he was a decent man. Well, do you know that he actually confessed to me that he framed Adam? And he thought that I should just let that go because he needed my help. And the most disgusting part of it is... that's exactly what I did. You know, maybe if I hadn't been playing the devoted wife, I could have figured out what he and Chloe were up to.

Victoria: Mom, please don't play the "what if" game. It's torture.

Nikki: Oh, I know that. You're absolutely right. I am looking to the future. I'm not looking the other way anymore, and I am not forgiving him anymore. Yeah, you heard me right. Shocking, isn't it? But there will be no more pretending that Victor knows what's best for this family.

Nick: Why won't you let me go see Paul?

Nikki: Because now is the time that we have to figure out how this will affect the three of us.

Victoria: We're gonna protect you, mom.

Nikki: I'm not worried about myself.

Nick: Vick and I can handle it.

Nikki: Really? Let's think back to last year, shall we? All of that negative publicity. Okay, your father's prison sentence, and then our campaign to get him out early... I mean, that almost ruined the Newman name, which, like it or not, will always define you and your children and their children.

Nick: Mom --

Victoria: If it comes out that dad conspired with Chloe and he goes to prison again...

Nikki: Then our reputation will be ruined, probably for good.

Nick: No! Mom, dad doesn't get a pass for this. All right? He is just as guilty as Chloe for killing Adam.

Nikki: And no one can ever know about it.

Billy: You got this, okay? For obvious reasons, I'm not gonna say a "break a leg," so... good luck.

Reed: Thanks, man, but seriously, I totally got this.

Billy: I know.

Reed: Hi, um, I'm reed.

I know your name. And date of birth. Didn't want to waste one single day, I see.

Reed: Yeah, um, and I'm having a party that you're totally invited to later. If I pass, that is. [Chuckles]

I'm guessing you're probably accustomed to females giving you whatever you want when you bat those eyelashes. Not gonna happen today, Mr. Hellstrom.

Reed: Uh, yes -- yes, ma'am.

Billy: Right.

Reed: [Mouths] Help me.

Gloria: My heart breaks for Kevin. It's traumatic enough being jilted at the altar by your so-called "soul mate," but then to find out that she's a fugitive, arsonist, child-abandoning murderer.

Jack: And where, pray tell, is our runaway bride now? Any leads?

Gloria: That note made it pretty clear. Kevin won't be hearing from her. Mm! You know something? I hope that goes for the whole town.

Jack: You don't want her arrested, found guilty, sent to prison?

Gloria: If she stays lost, then Kevin will finally be free of her.

Lauren: So, I have this idea.

Phyllis: Okay.

Lauren: And I'd like you to think about it before you say no.

Phyllis: Okay, I can pretty much do that, yeah. Thank you.

Lauren: All right. So... Scott is single and available.

Phyllis: No.

Lauren: You said you'd think about it.

Phyllis: I think very quickly.

Lauren: Clearly.

Phyllis: No grown man needs a matchmaking mother. Take it from me, all right? Starts with the letter j, ends with "ill."

Lauren: Oh, please, I am so much less pushy than my sister.

Phyllis: Like a school of piranha at a water ballet.

Lauren: [Gasps] Honey.

Phyllis: Hmm?

Lauren: You had a great time with Scott the night of the opera benefit, right? You said so yourself. And when we got home, his mood was a little lighter, he was more energized than we'd seen.

Phyllis: Doesn't mean I bewitched him with some kind of love spell.

Lauren: Oh, no, no. I am just suggesting that you guys spend time together and that, you know, you help acclimate him to his life here. This is hardly a setup.

Phyllis: Can't do it, doll. Sorry. Thank you for the coffee!

Lauren: [Stammers] Where are you going?

Phyllis: I'm going to work because now I need a distraction.

Lauren: Oh!

Phyllis: Thank you.

Lauren: Sorry I bummed you out. I certainly didn't mean to.

Phyllis: Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Come here.

Lauren: What?

Phyllis: Listen, I love you so much.

Lauren: I love you, too.

Phyllis: Scott is an amazing guy and he's gonna find a fantastic partner, and so am I, but mine is gonna come to me without a nudge. Especially from his mom, okay?

Lauren: All right, I won't bring it up again.

Phyllis: All right. I love you.

Lauren: I love you.

Chelsea: And that's when Chloe knew that I was onto her. She completely freaked out, left her own wedding, ran upstairs, and I chased after her and confronted her. And that's when she confessed. She admitted it to me. She admitted she blew up the cabin, and she even said, "I wanted him to die." She said those words to me.

Victor: What a horrible way to find out the truth.

Chelsea: But what's worse, before all of this happened, nick -- he told me his theory, and I didn't believe him. I believed Chloe.

Victor: Nicholas told me.

Chelsea: He tried to warn me about her and I got so angry. I was -- I mean, I was furious at him, and now he's probably furious at me, and I feel awful.

Victor: Have you talked to him ever since you made the statement on TV?

Chelsea: He won't pick up the phone when I call and he hasn't returned my voicemails. I feel like I've really screwed this up, and I'm sick over it. [Sighs]

Victor: Look. Just know one thing. I, too, believed that Adam's death was an accident, okay? I mean, he and I certainly had our differences. But when all's been said and done, I loved him. I wanted both of you to have a happy future together.

Chelsea: I know. I'll never forget how you tried to give Connor and me a future with Adam. Never.

Nikki: The minute he knows that your father helped Chloe escape, Paul is going to have him arrested for aiding and abetting.

Nick: Mom, you said you were through protecting dad, all right? He framed Adam. He had an unstable woman released from a mental institution to do his dirty work for him.

Victoria: What else is he hiding?

Nikki: Well, that's what the police are going to be asking, and God knows what they'll dig up. Maybe there are things we don't even know about!

Nick: So, what, dad just skates again? Seriously? Does that make sense to you?

Nikki: Okay, let's step back for a minute, all right? Your father is guilty of many things, but killing Adam isn't one of them. That was Chloe. And we know that Victor didn't know anything about that when he put her on that plane.

Nick: He brought Chloe to town and then he got her the hell out of here because he didn't want her talking about their little arrangement to anyone.

Victoria: You really don't think he should be punished for what he's done?

Nikki: Oh, he will be. So, tell me. How are things over at brash & sassy!?

Victoria: Fine.

Nikki: Just fine? Because you told me that you had just landed a major distribution deal in Asia.

Victoria: Yes. Yeah, we did. Why?

Nikki: I believe that you said the distributor in Tokyo was a great admirer of your father's. In fact, you intimated that the meeting wouldn't have even happened had he not had such high esteem for Victor.

Victoria: Yeah, mom, that's true, yes, but I don't understand --

Nick: What is this? What's going on, mom? Are you trying to scare us?

Nikki: No, I am trying to give the two of you a wake-up call! If Victor goes down, we go, too. If the public were to learn of any of this, can you imagine what would happen? Major companies would blacklist Newman enterprises. There would be online petitions, there would be boycotts. And imagine the feeding frenzy it would be for tabloid media, like "GC buzz" and all the rags out there. Hmm. The Newmans helped Victor get out of prison. Did we also know about his little scheme with Chloe? Did we actually help them accomplish it? These are the things that'll be going through people's minds! And those are the kind of rumors that can destroy things and people that we care about! Reed and faith and Noah -- all of the grandchildren. And Chelsea. That's why this has to be dealt with in-house. Not in the press. Can you two trust me enough to do that? Kids, I need you to promise me that you're going to keep it quiet. Nobody can ever know about the crazy things he has done!

Victoria: Okay. I promise.

Nikki: Thank you. Nicholas?

Nick: [Sighs] Fine. We'll do it your way. For now.

Gloria: I realize I'm to blame for Kevin's lousy taste in women.

Jack: Feel free to vent, but I think you're being a little hard on yourself.

Gloria: I didn't protect him from his rotten, abusive father.

Jack: How could you? You were a victim yourself.

Gloria: I should have shoved tom in front of a train the day he went after my little boy. And, boy, did I blow it with Chloe.

Jack: How?

Gloria: My little digs, my catty little comments... it just pushed them together. I could have made Kevin see, made him realize she wasn't good enough. She was just gonna hurt him! [Sobbing] I couldn't keep my mouth shut! And now look what's happened.

Jack: All right.

Gloria: [Sobbing]

Jack: Here. Here. Take it.

Gloria: Oh, God.

Victoria: I'm just trying to wrap my head around it. It's true. If our new distributor Mr. Sato finds out what dad's been doing, he's gonna drop brash & sassy! In a heartbeat. We will be finished in Asia, and our pro hockey deal will be done. We've already put so much money into that.

Nikki: Yeah, brash & sassy! Has a lot to lose right now.

Victoria: Billy and I are getting along really well. We're rebuilding our trust, and we're in a really good place. He's been really supportive, but I can't tell him.

Nikki: No, you can't tell anyone. One little slip could cause devastation.

Victoria: [Sighs]

Nikki: I know it's difficult, but you're strong. You can handle it.

Victoria: I wish I felt as confident as you sound. Gosh, mom. Today's reed's birthday. He's so excited. I already blew him off once. I have to make this party really special for him.

Nikki: And you will. You'll be the most charming hostess and no one will have a clue that anything is wrong.

Victoria: What about Abby, though? She works so closely with dad. I'm worried that she'll...

Nikki: Yeah. Me, too. Those two are very close. If we were to tell her, it'd just be a matter of time before the whole Abbott family knew everything.

Victoria: Yeah, her loyalties are definitely divided. You're right, mom. We can't tell anyone, ever.

Phyllis: Oh, don't stop on my account. You know, when I saw you at the athletic club, I just thought that was just an act for my benefit.

Gloria: You know something, Phyllis... it was an act. But now we're working together, and chemistry just kind of kicked in.

Phyllis: Pigs grew wings and took to the sky -- got it.

Jack: Gloria and I are both single. We're not hurting anyone.

Gloria: [Giggles] Yeah. We're just a couple of people who like working together and... playing together. Turns out our long-standing feud was just, um...foreplay.

Billy: So, how you feeling?

Reed: Man, I was more nervous that either open mic night. I totally blew the parallel parking.

Billy: Yeah. But you passed!

Reed: I did. [Laughs]

Billy: You did. Congratulations.

Reed: Thank you.

Billy: Look at you! Besides the parallel parking, you got a perfect score! I'm proud of you, and so is "Mrs. Ballbricker."

Victoria: Reed! You did it!

Reed: You told her?

Victoria: Oh, my goodness! Honey, congratulations!

Reed: Hey, mom. Yeah.

Victoria: I'm so sorry I missed your test.

Reed: It's all right. I mean, it worked out fine. Barely.

Victoria: Well, that's fantastic.

Reed: So, mom, uh, my friends tonight -- do they have to dress up or anything for the party?

Billy: Vick.

Victoria: Huh?

Billy: Do his friends need to dress up for the party tonight? Is there a dress code?

Victoria: Uh, dress code? No. No.

Reed: Okay, um, well, I'm gonna go show my friends my temp license.

Billy: Congrats again.

Reed: Look what I got!

Victoria: [Sighs]

Billy: You okay? How'd it go at the ranch?

Victoria: Yeah. It's okay. It's just crazy. Stressful.

Billy: Yeah, I'm sure Chloe's confession blew everybody away.

Victoria: I'd rather not talk about it, is that okay?

Billy: No. Not really.

Nick: Come in.

Chelsea: I'm glad you called. I'm so sorry.

Nick: Forget it.

Chelsea: If you knew how much I regret fighting with you about Chloe... I guess I was just in denial. It took finding Adam's wedding ring to convince me.

Nick: Look, she's your friend. Of course, you wanted to defend her. I don't fault you for that.

Chelsea: So, we're good? Promise?

Nick: I promise.

Chelsea: I, uh -- I just saw your dad. He was really sweet, actually, but obviously crushed.

Nick: I bet.

Chelsea: I think all that matters now is just getting Chloe back here so she can stand trial.

Nick: Well, I'm sure the police will do the best they can.

Chelsea: Yeah, and your dad is launching a search of his own, and I want to help, you know, for my own conscience.

Nick: Well, what can you do?

Chelsea: I don't know, I mean, hire a P.I., create a website for tips, offer a reward...

Nick: No, no, no. Slow down. I don't think you should any of that.

Victor: I guess the fact that you're here means that we can talk?

Nikki: Oh, yeah. We're definitely gonna talk.

Victor: I know you're angry with me. I'm angry with myself. The worst mistake I ever made in my life was to bring that lunatic back into town.

Nikki: Your assurances mean nothing to me. The last thing I feel for you is pity.

Victor: By the way, Chelsea was here.

Nikki: She must be devastated.

Victor: We don't need to rehash past mistakes with her. We need to help her, okay?

Nikki: Does that mean you didn't rehash your mistakes with Chloe?

Victor: Of course not, okay? I want to protect our grandson, Connor. You know that family means everything to me.

Nikki: Oh, God, yes. I know all about that. I keep hearing about that. It's going to be in a book now. Why don't have it printed on a t-shirt? Tell somebody else what a changed man you are because I don't believe it and I never will.

Victor: I don't give a damn if you believe it or not. Do you think my pain was a charade?

Nikki: No, actually, I don't. I saw it. I know it was real. You deserve to feel guilty about it, being the linchpin in your own son's murder! Maybe you can find a way to forgive yourself, because you're not gonna get any forgiveness from me.

Jack: Phyllis. Phyllis!

Phyllis: You don't need to yell, I'm right here.

Jack: Are you? Because I just asked you twice about the synergy between jabot and Fenmore's apps, something we can premiere with our first cross-promotion.

Phyllis: Pick a cross-promotion. We'll tailor the app.

Jack: Maybe we should do this another time.

Phyllis: Gloria? Really? Gloria? The women who takes advantage of your father, nearly destroyed jabot with a poisoned face cream, and, what, you're forgiving her because she didn't sleep with your brother?

Jack: Yes and yes.

Phyllis: It must have been so lonely after our divorce for you to glob on to the first leopard-skin bustier that came your way!

Jack: It's called having fun. Someday, you'll remember how.

Chelsea: Why wouldn't I pursue every possible avenue to get Chloe back here?

Nick: Look, my dad's guys and the police are good at what they do. Let them do their jobs. You know, if we get obsessed with trying to track down Chloe, it could mess up our lives or, I don't know, maybe mess up the investigation.

Chelsea: Thank you.

Nick: For what?

Chelsea: Being your level-headed, sincere self. You're right, I was already starting to obsess, and it would have consumed me. [Sighs] Chloe's out of my hands. What I have to focus on now is Connor. And you. And me. That's more than enough, right?

Nick: Yeah.

Nikki: I'm not putting this all on you. I'm to blame, too.

Victor: In what way?

Nikki: I always enabled you.

Victor: That doesn't make any sense.

Nikki: [Sighs] I never should have tried to get you out of prison early. I should have made you stay there. But I was so soft and so willing to forgive. I'm done with forgiveness.

Victor: You don't mean that.

Nikki: Oh, yes, I do. Have you forgotten the way you've betrayed your family? For once in his life, the great Victor Newman loses control! And now all the people he supposedly cares about might be going down in flames, too. Well, I will promise you this. I'll never enable you again. Your reign as the king of the Newman family ends today.

Victor: I guess it's time for me to get a lawyer, is that what you want?

Nikki: I didn't go to the police. I'm not going to. Neither are the kids. But it's not to protect you. It's to protect us and my grandchildren.

Victor: That's right. Family means everything.

Nikki: Exactly. So here's how it's gonna be. To the outside world, we will still be the loving, close-knit Newman clan. But when we're behind closed doors, you will no longer be a member of this family.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Hilary: Perfect.

Mariah: Wait, what is she up to now?

Nick: Who knows how long it's gonna be till she cracks and starts getting us to try and forgive dad?

Victor: You may have poisoned Nicholas and Victoria, but I'll be damned if I allow you to poison my grandchildren against me.
