Episode # 10914 ~ Sharon spirals out of control; Victor bonds with Meredith; Abby worries that her marriage is in danger.

Provided By Suzanne

Nick: You know, today's ceremony is a chance for everybody who loved sage to say goodbye.

Faith: It'll be sad.

Nick: Yeah. It's gonna be really sad. We're all gonna miss her. But at least we're gonna have all those good memories that we can hang on to, right?

Faith: Like when sage used to read to us.

Nick: Yeah. Exactly. You know, a big part of today is gonna be sharing those memories and celebrating the fact that sage was in our lives and we're very grateful for that.

Faith: And 'cause we know she's wish the angels now with Christian.

Dylan: I'm gonna stop by the club after the service, and, uh, I want to take a look at the surveillance footage from the day Abby fell.

Lily: Why are the police investigating? It was an accident.

Dylan: Abby asked me to look into it.

Lily: Well, is there something that we should know? Is there a reason to be suspicious?

Dylan: No. Just, uh, dotting the "I's," crossing the "T's" on this one.

Lily: Okay. Well, I'll be expecting you, then.

Dylan: Thanks, lily.

Lily: Thanks.

Dylan: Wha-what's this?

Sharon: What's what?

Dylan: Well, you're supposed to be dressed. We got to go.

Sharon: Um...I'm not gonna do, Dylan. I can't.

[Knock on door]

Victoria: Come in.

Nikki: Hi, sweetheart.

Victoria: Hey, mom.

Nikki: I thought we could go to the service together.

Victoria: Yeah, sure. Just give me a few minutes to finish up.

Nikki: Oh, take your time. It's fine. [Sighs] It's still hard to believe that we're burying sage today. We have to be very strong for your brother, really come together as a family.

Victoria: Yeah. I agree. Today should be all about Nicholas, which is why I want to get this off my chest right now.

Nikki: It has something to do with your father?

Victoria: We all know that Curtis fielding is the only board member on dad's side. So giving him your proxy to vote would be lethal. It would be like handing dad a weapon that he'd turn around and use against me. So, my question is, why did you do it, mom?

Meredith: Okay. Good. 122/76.

Victor: That's good.

Meredith: Yeah.

Victor: I'll live.

Meredith: You will. Now as long as nobody punches you, your injury should heal quite nicely.

Victor: Uh, nobody punched me, okay?

Meredith: Oh, that's right. I forgot. So, um, I'm curious. When I wrote you up for using my phone, were you disciplined in any way?

Victor: Yeah. They cut down my exercise time.

Meredith: Well, I hope you understand why I had to report it.

Victor: Of course I do. I broke the rules, so you did nothing wrong. There are consequences.

Meredith: Well, your pragmatism is quite refreshing. You're free to go.

Victor: All right. Let me ask you. Have -- have you thought about the discussion we had yesterday about your dad? I mean, how he and I had similar views about things and how I might help you to understand how he relates to his children?

Meredith: All families are different.

Victor: Yeah, but you know, if you heard what I have to say about all this, since he and I are somewhat similar, maybe you would find him more sympathetic.

Meredith: Can I be honest with you, victor?

Victor: Sure.

Meredith: You are locked in here, spending all day, every day, looking for new and improved ways to torture your own wife and kids.

Victor: What?

Meredith: Hold on. Hear me out, please. And yet, at the same time, you're also looking for them to sympathize with you. So, don't you see the disconnect?

Victor: But I'm not looking for anyone's sympathy. What are you talking about?

Meredith: Well, what are --

Victor: I didn't ask my children to come here. They are the ones who are looking for forgiveness.

Chelsea: Are you okay? Are you ready for today?

Adam: Yeah. No. I'm not. I just... what if I'm not? What if -- what if I just want to go back upstairs and want to pull the sheets over my head and just pretend like this whole damn thing isn't happening?

Chelsea: I know this is awful for you. Just -- just know that I'm -- I'm with you every step of the way.

Adam: I know that. I know that you are. Thank you. I just get a little nervous about showing my face at memorials, you know?

Chelsea: Why? You and sage were friends. Everyone will be expecting to see you there.

Adam: It's not that.

Chelsea: Well, then what is it?

Adam: I just have a hard time at these things, you know? It's like, that's, uh -- at Christian's memorial, that's how victor found out that I was the father. I can't -- can't keep everything in, you know?

Chelsea: You and sage were close. Listen to me. No one is going to be questioning your grief.

[Doorbell rings]

Adam: Expecting someone?

Chelsea: No.

Adam: All right. Hold on. Hey. Michael.

Michael: May I come in?

Adam: Please. Come on in. Yeah.

Michael: Thanks. Hey.

Chelsea: Hey.

Michael: I was on my way to the memorial service. Uh, I thought I might deliver my news in person.

Adam: What news would that be?

Michael: Well, as it turns out, I am sage's executor. [Sighs] She named you in the will. I'd like you to be present when it's read.

Summer: I wish we could just stay here forever. But since we can't...

Luca: Who says we can't?

Summer: No. It's -- yeah, it's getting late. I should probably go get in the shower and get ready for sage's memorial service.

Luca: You know, if you'd like, I can rearrange my day, come with you for moral support.

Summer: That's really sweet of you. Um, but as much as I would love to have you there to lean on, just given the way my family feels...I don't know.

Luca: Say no more. I'll be here afterward, waiting for you.

Summer: Okay. Thank you for understanding. My dad just -- you know, he has enough to deal with today.

Max: What are you doing here?

Abby: I'm looking for your father. We need to talk.

Max: You're wasting your time. He's never gonna forgive you about what you said to me.

Abby: We'll see.

Lily: Hi. So, Charlie set up the game. He's waiting for you.

Abby: Wow. I can't believe you agreed to another playdate.

Lily: Um, stitch got paged into work, so I offered to watch max.

Abby: Lily, he goaded your son into pulling a fire alarm in a public place. He's not a good influence.

Lily: Well, Charlie decided to give him another chance, so I said okay. I mean, they're just playing checkers. I'll keep a close eye on them.

Abby: Smart idea.

Lily: Abby, what is going on with you? Why are stitch and max staying here?

Abby: Max is still upset with me, but, lily, I know I'm right.

Lily: Abby, you're grieving. Your emotions are all over the place.

Abby: It's not hormones. The kid has hated me since the day we met. He's hated the idea of being a family. If he sees me as a threat, I can only imagine how he sees this -- this child, this child that would tie me to his father forever.

Lily: Max is a kid. What you're accusing him of --

Lily: Is horrible. Yes. I know. But my baby is dead, and every instinct in me is telling me that max is responsible.

Lily: Have you really thought this through? Getting the police involved? I mean, having them investigate your husband's eight-year-old son? That's the kind of thing that can wreck a marriage. Are you willing to risk that?

Dylan: Sleep tight, little man. You know... sage was more than just somebody you worked with. You know, she was a friend, someone who turned to you when she lost her child and was drowning with grief, and -- and you let her take comfort in our son when nothing came close to doing that. It's one of the kindest things I've ever seen you do. I know that, um -- that you're having a hard time accepting that she's gone. You know, we all are. But today, this is about honoring sage's life and the people that she left behind, doing what's right for them. And faith -- you know, faith's never been to a service like this. It'd be great if her mom was there, showing her by example that this is just -- you know, it's a part of life, something caring that people do, that when tough situations like this happen, you know, we all stick together. It's gonna be a tough day for nick. And I'm sure he'd appreciate it if you were there.

Sharon: Okay. You're right. I've been very caught up in everything that I've been going through, but this does affect a lot of other people.

Adam: Sage left me something?

Michael: Yep.

Adam: Huh.

Chelsea: Well, what is it?

Michael: Um...well, I can't tell you that now. The reading's going to be at Newman tower following the, uh, memorial service.

Adam: Well, who's gonna be there?

Michael: Various Newman family members. Look, I've got to head out. I'll see you at the memorial.

Chelsea: We'll be there.

[Door closes]

Adam: Sage's bequest. What if it's about Christian?

Victoria: Dad thinks that it's our fault that he's in prison. In his mind, it's not because of the terrible crimes that he's committed but it's because he thinks that we betrayed him. You knew that his thinking was twisted like this, and yet you helped to humiliated me. He sold Newman cosmetics out from underneath me, a division that has been mine all along, to Billy of all people. You pretend like you don't know what's going on, but you know what's going on! Why did you give up that vote?

Nikki: I was desperate, Victoria! Your father was refusing to see me, and I felt like my whole life was falling apart. I was losing him. I was losing myself! And then Nicholas got him to agree to see me, and I was so ecstatic until I saw him, face to face. He was so cold. He was so distant. I was practically begging him to forgive me. I-I said -- I said, "I'll do anything. Just -- just tell me what you want."

Victoria: And what he wanted was the power to screw me over, which you conveniently handed him.

Nikki: Oh, my god. I cannot believe he would be so spiteful that he would deliberately hurt you.

Victoria: Well, he did.

Nikki: My darling, I am so sorry. I-I didn't think it through.

Victoria: No, you didn't. He used you, mom.

Nikki: I know the damage is done. The one thing I've learned through this whole horrific experience is that victor is never, ever going to forgive me.

Meredith: Forgiveness. That's a pretty tall order. Victor, you are hurting people that your family cares about. And now you're just going out of your way to antagonize them.

Victor: I'm not going out of the way to antagonize them. I mean, you and I are talking pretty honestly. What you may not know is that my family testified against me, their own father. I think they come to visit me because they realize that, you know, they did something egregiously wrong. When they come to see me, I can see that they are regretful. I think they're asking for my love and forgiveness.

Meredith: How can there be any hope of healing and redemption if you can't admit that you've done anything wrong?

Adam: Why else would sage have left me that message? Why -- why would she be so intent on talking to me about Christian? I'm telling you, my father lied to me. He told her that I switched the results of the paternity test. That's what happened.

Chelsea: Adam, Adam, stop. You are letting your guilt get the best of you.

Adam: No, no, no. No, I don't think so.

Chelsea: Let's just think about this logically for one second, okay? Let's just say that victor outed you. Why would he lie about it now? Think about it. What good would that do him?

Adam: Honey, I don't know. I never know what's going on inside that guy's head. I don't know.

Chelsea: Why would he even tell sage? Because what would sage do with that information? Hmm? She would go straight to nick. Babe, that would destroy nick. That would absolutely devastate him.

Adam: Yeah, you're probably right. And my father cares nothing about collateral damage. You know that.

Chelsea: Okay. You are overreacting because you're upset. Just because sage left you something doesn't mean that she knows that you were Christian's father. For all we know -- who knows? You spent all of that time in Constance's home with sage. Maybe she wanted, you know, you to have some keepsake. That's possible, isn't it?

Adam: A keepsake? Sweetheart, really? Come on. We both know the truth has a way of coming out.

Chelsea: But putting it in her will? That would just be mean. That would just be cruel. And, sage -- she didn't have a vindictive bone in her body, babe. I mean, she would never have wanted the truth to come out like this.

Adam: Well, maybe not, but you know what? Her whole world got turned upside down the day that Gabriel Bingham died rescuing me. And then she got caught up in my life and all of my problems and the damn Newmans.

Chelsea: What are you talking about? She met the love of her life through you -- nick.

Adam: Yeah, but that doesn't take away from the fact that she feels betrayed and lied to and taken advantage of by me. Maybe -- maybe this is her way of settling the score.

Chelsea: So, what do we do now?

Adam: Well, the only thing we can do. We -- we go to the memorial, we honor her, and then we go to the reading...together and we -- we see what she has in store for us.

Victor: I miss my family a lot today. Especially today. My son is burying his wife.

Meredith: Oh. I'm so sorry. I-I-I had no idea. How did it happen?

Victor: She died in a car accident.

Meredith: Wow. That's a terrible shock.

Victor: Well. [Sighs] He and his wife had a little baby boy called Christian, named after me. But he was born prematurely, didn't survive it. So, within a year's time, my son has to deal with the loss of two -- two people. And I can't be there. It breaks my heart. Anyway, it puts things in perspective, you know?

Meredith: Wow. Why are you telling me all this?

Victor: [Sighs]

Nick: Thanks for coming by and offering to give us a ride.

Noah: Anything I can do to help.

Faith: Today's about remembering the good times you had with sage. Right, daddy?

Nick: You got it. Why don't you go upstairs and put your shoes on so we can go?

Faith: Okay.

Nick: It's nice to have the little ray of sunshine around, huh? She always keeps that optimism.

Summer: She definitely got that from you, dad.

Noah: Yeah, it sounds like you explained what today's about in just the right way.

Nick: What was I supposed to say? That we're cursed?

Sharon: Cursed?

Nick: Sometimes I feel like that. I try not to think about our family in that way. I know how it sounds, but there must be times when you guys feel like that.

Noah: Yeah. Only on a regular basis. And I can see how you would get there. First losing Cassie, then Christian, now sage. Grandpa's in jail. Grandma's drinking again. This family's in turmoil.

Summer: Okay, Noah, every family has its problems, but you have to remember that our family is lucky in a way that other families aren't because of how close we are and -- and because of how loyal we are. Look, I mean, after everything, we still love each other. And when there's a crisis, we band together. And, yes, grandpa might not think so at the moment, but it's true. It's what we do, because we are Newmans. And I am proud to be a Newman. Look, I'm sorry, dad. I really am. But please, just don't -- don't talk about there being a family curse, because there's -- there's not.

Nick: [Chuckles] Well, when you're right, you're right. Will you forgive me?

Summer: For -- for what?

Nick: I forgot about my original ray of sunshine.

Luca: Mr. Hamilton. Luca Santori.

Devon: How you doing? Have we met before?

Luca: Oh, indeed, we have. You remember?

Devon: I... you were at Abby and stitch's wedding with, um...

Luca: Marisa, uh, my wife at the time.

Devon: That's right. Um, Noah has spoken about you.

Luca: Noah. Yeah, um, he and I are old pals. I like him. He's got a good head on his shoulders.

Devon: He doesn't really care much for you.

Luca: Yeah, no. He doesn't. Yeah. He's made that ear on several occasions. Look, I ju-- I just wanted to properly introduce myself. I've been following the medical research you're funding -- some very promising work.

Devon: Yeah, it is. It is. We, um -- we've hit a few snags lately, but, uh, it's set us back a little bit.

Luca: With such a cutting-edge project, that's to be expected. I saw the press announcement. I thought your wife handled it beautifully.

Devon: Well, I appreciate that.

Luca: Yeah.

Devon: Um, what is it exactly that you do?

Luca: Well, I, um -- I came here to head up a joint venture between Newman enterprises and my father's company in Europe. That project has concluded, but I found myself quite taken with Genoa City. So, I'm looking for new opportunities here.

Devon: Well, that's fantastic. Well, good luck with that.

Luca: Thank you. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot of each other.

Lily: Please think long and hard about this before you take it any further.

Abby: I trust my instincts, lily, and if I'm right, we need to get max some help.

Lily: And if you're wrong?

Abby: If I'm wrong, then I accept the consequences, whatever they are. Hi.

Devon: Hey. What was that about?

Lily: We have a problem. Dylan called in his official capacity.

Devon: What for?

Lily: He wants to check the security tapes from the day Abby fell.

Devon: Why? Wasn't it --

Lily: An accident. I know. But Abby doesn't believe it. She wants the police to investigate.

Lily: Depending on what the police find on those tapes, we could be looking at a major lawsuit.

Devon: I thought you and cane already checked those tapes after Abby fell.

Lily: We did. It looked like she just tripped. But Abby's having a hard time letting it go.

Devon: That's understandable, I guess. I mean...

Lily: I mean, if you want, if you agree to it, I'll turn over everything we have. Otherwise -- unless you want to call our lawyer first.

Devon: No, lily. No need to do that. We need to get to the bottom of this, so just give Dylan whatever he needs.

Lily: Okay. You got it.

Charlie: Hey, where'd you go? I've been looking for you. It's your move.

Max: Checkers is lame. I have an idea for a new game. It's called robot spies.

Charlie: How do you play?

Max: We have to sneak into the lobby, and you have to swipe the master key card without being caught. It's to save the world. But if you're too chicken...

Charlie: I am not.

Luca: I understand your concern, which is why I'm sharing this information. Since Victoria took over, Newman's been in free fall. She neglected to shore up the board and lost a major consumer division. It was a careless mistake, but she's paying the price now, the whole company is. I speak for victor as well as myself when I say your loyalty won't be forgotten.

Victor: You know, I remember the day of the memorial for my grandson Christian and how that affected my boy Nicholas. He leaned on me as he almost never had before. It broke my heart to see him like that. And now I can't be there for him. But you know, you could be.

Meredith: Me?

Victor: Yeah. You could go to the memorial service. It's at chancellor park.

Meredith: Victor, that's -- no. That's just completely inappropriate.

Victor: But I'm not asking you as a, you know, prison employee or as a prison doctor. I just have a feeling that you're a very compassionate woman. And I'd just like you to go there and tell my boy that I care about him... very much, okay? Go there and...let him know that. I mean, I know that you have not repaired your strained relations with your own father. Perhaps you can help me do that with my family.

Meredith: I am so sorry for your loss, but I-I can't get involved in your personal life. [Sighs] I'm gonna call a guard and have him escort you back to your cell.

Victor: Okay.

Meredith: Okay.

Adam: Hey.

Nick: Hi.

Adam: I'm sorry.

Nick: Yeah. Thanks.

Chelsea: I'm so sorry. She was an amazing person. She will be missed.

Nick: Hey, uh, I-I know about the phone call. And I don't want you to blame yourself, you know? It's not your fault.

Adam: Well, I really appreciate you saying that to me. Thank you.

Nikki: Hi, son. Sharon.

Sharon: Nikki.

Nikki: I was hoping you would have brought sully.

Dylan: Well, he's still pretty young.

Nikki: He meant so much to sage.

Nick: Sharon. I just want to thank you for coming, both of you. I know, uh, sage is looking down and she's smiling right now.

If you'd all like to gather around, we can begin.

Heavenly father, we ask you for your comfort in this time of loss as we commemorate the life of sage Newman. Amen.

All: Amen.

Anyone who would like to say a few words is welcome to do so. Faith, honey, should we start with you?

Faith: Daddy said it's okay to be sad. But I don't think sage would want that. She'd want us all to think about the good times, like when we were finger painting and we started painting each other's faces. Then we spilled all the paint on the rug. I was so scared I was gonna get in trouble. But then sage said it was a happy mess. [Voice breaking] That's what she called our family -- a happy mess. I'll miss sage a lot. But I know she's with Christian now. He must be so happy to be with his mommy. That's what we all have to think about -- the two of them together in heaven. Mommy, your turn.

Sharon: Oh, sweetie. I couldn't have said it any better myself.

Faith: That's okay. It doesn't have to be perfect.

Sharon: You know who I'd like to hear from? Adam. He knew sage better than any of us.

Nick: Yeah, Adam. I think you should, uh, say something.

Adam: Yeah. Excuse me. Sage and I had a, um... interesting relationship. Um...but it was a friendship, and, um, I very quickly grew to love her as a person. Um, it was easy to see her strength. She had a kindness about her, a warmth. Nick... that woman loved you, man. And I hope you never forget that.

Nick: [Sighs] Uh... I guess I want to talk about the future. You know, sage is gone. Life goes on. And -- and we need to, uh, live life to its fullest. And we need to embrace it. [Voice breaking] Though I don't have any idea how I'm supposed to do that.

Lily: Abby's in a lot of pain. I think she's just looking for someone other than herself to blame for what happened. And unfortunately, max is it.

Devon: Yeah, I don't know, though, lily, 'cause Abby's a friend, and she might seem flighty and self-involved sometimes, but I think her instincts on people are --

[Alarm blaring]

Lily: Oh, my god.

Devon: I'll go check it out.

Lily: Where have you been? Were you playing with the fire alarm again? Did either of you have anything to do with this? Don't look at him, Charlie. Look at me. I want the truth.

Luca: I thought you might want an update since our last talk.

Victor: Well, you thought wrong. But let me hear what you have to say. Sit down.

Luca: Look, victor, things are bad. And they're only getting worse. I've been working hard behind the scenes to reassure the division heads. There's an ever-growing concern amongst all of them about Victoria's ability to lead the company in your absence. I don't think she can do it.

Victor: Hmm.

Luca: Now, if you were expecting Adam to step in and save the day, it's clear that won't happen. And now that Nicholas is out of commission... meanwhile, you're in here stirring up trouble, taking shots at Victoria, and for what? Games. It's fruitless. Look, if you really want to do a bit of damage to those who've wronged you, you're gonna need someone on your side on the inside at Newman.

Victor: You think you're the one, right? Since you now have a relationship with my granddaughter that I disapprove of strongly. You think you should be the one to take over. I got news for you. And listen carefully. I may be inside these damn prison walls, but I can still pull a lot of strings and make people's lives miserable. Get my drift?

Luca: I took a calculated risk coming here.

Victor: You bet you did.

Luca: Look, somehow, I assumed that your desire to keep your company from crumbling outweighed your contempt for me. No?

Victor: That's the third time you've been wrong. Now, you get out of my face. Guard!

Nick: You know, everyone keeps coming up to me and telling me how sorry they are for my loss. And your words -- they're just so polite. What do any of you know about my loss? You don't know anything.

Victoria: Faith doesn't need to hear any of this.

Nikki: No, I was thinking the same thing.

Nick: Your so-called kindness -- it's empty. It doesn't mean anything. It's the way I felt ever since this happened.

Victoria: Nick. Come on. Come sit down next to me. It's gonna be okay.

Nick: No, it's not gonna be okay. It's never gonna be okay, because my son is gone! And I never even got a chance to hold him! And he's gone forever! And it's all sage wanted was a child of her own, and now she's gone, too! And I don't know how to move on!

Sharon: Nick. You're wrong. You're not alone.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Abby: You're not gonna like hearing this. I think max set that fire.

Marisa: Luca's only using summer to get his hooks into the Newman family. I think you underestimate his ambition.

Luca: Good news or bad?

I don't think you're gonna like what I found out.
