Episode # 10888 ~ Chelsea forces Adam to face his demons; Billy comforts Phyllis; Victor prepares to meet his fate.
Provided By Suzanne
Victor: I chose to protect the very company that I've built from the ground up. I chose to protect those I love, even if I had to bend the law to do it. But that is who I am. That is who stands before you. That is the man you have to judge. That's all.Judge Murray: Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, before you begin your deliberations, I must remind you that the defendant is presumed innocent of the charges against him. This presumption remains during your deliberations and cannot be overcome unless, having considered all of the evidence involved in this case, you are convinced beyond a reasonable doubt that he is guilty. If the state has proven him guilty, beyond a reasonable doubt, of kidnapping and/or fraud, then the burden of proof is on the defendant to show a preponderance of evidence that there is a mitigating factor present so that he is guilty of a lesser...
Nick: Mom?
Nikki: Oh, my God. He's gonna get away with it.
Nick: Hey. We don't know that.
Nikki: The writing is on the wall. He'll go free, and there will be retribution for all of us.
Nick: I just hate it that dad humiliated you like that on the stand.
Nikki: Oh, well, that's classic Victor Newman. He tells me he loves me and then calls me a drunk in open court.
Nick: Is it true, what he said? Did you have a drink today?
Nikki: I-I just couldn't handle it, okay?
Nick: It's just this damn trial, all right? As soon as it's over --
Nikki: You were smart to leave this company years ago. You got to get away from your father and his cold-hearted ways.
Nick: Look, forget about dad. We're gonna get you the help --
Nikki: Don't you get dragged back into this. Do you hear me? The most important thing in life is your wife and your family and that little boy that you're going to give a wonderful home to. That is what is important, not this. [Voice breaking] Never this.
Shawn: Oh, faith, you're such a big help. You even managed to get some paint on the wall.
[Laughter]
Faith: All the parts I could reach.
Shawn: Now you can tell your little brother you were part of decorating his new room.
Faith: It makes me sad, though.
Sage: What, baby? What's sad?
Faith: That Shawn won't be here when we bring the baby home.
Victoria: Dad... it's all a lie, isn't it? Despite what you said, you hate us all, don't you?
Victor: You obviously weren't listening, were you? I did what I've always done -- love and protect my family.
Jack: Yeah.
Phyllis: Oh, you are completely out of your mind.
Victor: The truth isn't always simple or easy, now, is it? Only some people have the guts to tell it.
Adam: You have a warped sense of the truth, Victor.
Victor: You chose this. Remember that.
Adam: I remember that.
Billy: Well, I say we got Victor right where we want him. Just got to make sure the jury keeps him there. Christine, what do you think?
Christine: I think you blew this, all of you. Phyllis' actions --
Phyllis: My actions? I didn't kidnap Jack. I didn't unleash Marco, the criminal, into our lives.
Christine: Yeah, I just prosecuted Victor. I'm very well aware of what he did.
Phyllis: Okay, so if you lose, it's our fault?
Christine: Yeah, damn right it is. There's no way Michael would have tried to sink this case on his own, not without emotional blackmail from his so-called friends.
Phyllis: Whoever represented Victor, it does not matter. It was your job to nail him.
Christine: Ah, ducking responsibility, as usual. Michael's a great attorney. You could have just destroyed his career.
Jack: Christine, th--
Christine: Oh, come on. She played into Victor's hands. We had this, Jack. We had the evidence and the witnesses. So, if Victor walks free, and I think there is a very good chance he might, this is all on you.
Billy: Christine...
Jack: I told you this could happen.
Phyllis: No, no, no. No "I told you so's," not now, Jack.
Sage: Well, Shawn isn't sad. Are you, Shawn?
Shawn: Where did you get that? You don't see me crying and whining and moping, do you?
Faith: Most of the time, you look happy.
Shawn: That's because I know my baby will be living in this awesome penthouse with all of you to love him and take care of him. And he will have the most amazing big sister.
Faith: I'll be the best big sister ever. And I'll have so much practice by the time the baby gets here since I already have Sully. And now I'll have... what's his name gonna be?
Sage: Oh, faith, you know, we haven't discussed that, yet. I'm sure Shawn hasn't even thought about it.
Shawn: Actually, I have.
Nikki: You go home to your family.
Nick: I will. As soon as I make sure you're okay.
Nikki: Honey, I am fine. Please go home. Hug them, love them, and know that you deserve all the good things that are happening to you. I'm gonna get a cab.
Noah: Hey, grandma. How you doing?
Nikki: Oh, sweetheart, don't worry about me. I'm fine. I was just telling your father that --
Victoria: Well, dad was able to turn everything around, so what are we gonna do now?
Nikki: I don't know why you sound so surprised.
Victoria: Today's been full of surprises, mom.
Nikki: Well, your father has never taken responsibility for his actions. That's what brought us here. The fact that he didn't apologize is certainly not news.
Abby: Well, we didn't expect dad's lawyer to be kicked out for trying to throw the trial.
Summer: Or for Grandpa to be the one questioning us.
Nick: It's typical dad. He went from being accused to on the attack.
Marisa: Yeah, and the thing with his lawyer blindsided everyone.
Noah: Yeah, everyone except for Luca, who just couldn't wait to get on the stand and run his mouth.
Summer: Michael was working against Grandpa. All Luca did was tell the truth.
Noah: Oh, yeah. Luca picked a convenient day to grow a conscience, huh?
Abby: If Michael hadn't agreed to the plan --
Nikki: Michael has seen Victor twist the law many times. God knows none us wanted us to see that happen again. All right. I-I have to go.
Summer: No, Michael was working for Grandpa. He should have helped him.
Abby: Yeah, instead of siding with Phyllis.
Nick: Phyllis is his friend. He wanted justice for her, and clearly he was willing to risk his career for that.
Victoria: Okay, well, what about the risk to us?
Abby: Michael knew what it meant for us to face dad in court, what that could cost us. We were trying to do the right thing.
Noah: It was the right thing.
Nikki: We could have avoided this entire thing if we had just accepted the deal that Victor offered Adam when we had the chance. That way, Adam would have taken over Newman and your father would have agreed to go to jail.
Noah: The deal is no longer on the table.
Nick: Maybe, maybe --
[All talking]
Adam: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on, please, a second, right? We're still in public. Goodness' sakes. Wh-wh-what is everyone talking like, uh -- like dad's gonna walk free for? What's that?
Victoria: Did anyone see the jurors' faces when they realized that dad's attorney was setting him up?
Adam: Well, yeah. Okay. Then Christine shot that down. She made them realize he's just some rich guy who thinks he's above the law.
Nick: Dad did cop to bending the law to get whatever he wants.
Victoria: The jury doesn't know him like we do.
Adam: Which is exactly why they're not gonna buy into his sanctimonious claims that whatever he did, however evil it was, he did it for something as noble as his family. Guys, come on. Those jurors know if they did something that broke the law for their family, they'd go to jail, right? That's exactly where they're gonna send him. Relax. I'm sure of it.
Faith: Tell us. Tell us the name you chose for the baby.
Shawn: When I was little, uh, I spent a lot of time with my Grandpa. I don't have many good memories of growing up, but the ones I do have are all about big Dave. He used to take me everywhere -- hunting, fishing, bars.
Sage: [Scoffs] Bars?
Shawn: That was our secret. I could tell him anything, and I did. Being with big Dave -- it's the only time, as a kid, I remember feeling safe, really safe, and loved, which is...how I want this little guy to feel. But it's Sage and Nick's choice what they name the baby.
Sage: David. I like the sound of that. David.
Faith: [Chuckles]
Phyllis: I don't want to hear it. I don't want to hear how bad I've messed up, how I've messed up our plan -- a plan that you signed off on.
Jack: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I signed off on it. Believe me, I regret it now.
Phyllis: I don't regret anything I did.
Jack: Oh, of course you don't. Hell, look what you accomplished. Because of your plan, this whole case against Victor is tainted, brought into doubt, and that's not the worst of it. Because of you, your best friend may now be facing disbarment.
Phyllis: Michael chose to do this. He knew the risks.
Jack: Because you guilted him into it.
Phyllis: Oh, because he knew the odds of Victor getting justice were microscopic. He knows just how down and dirty he can get. We had to fight dirty.
Jack: You don't even feel bad about the whole Michael thing, do you? Listen to yourself! Is this part of your plan, too? Leave nothing behind you but scorched earth? If Victor's found guilty, you may not have anyone to celebrate that Victory with. You're consumed by this. You're pushing family away. You're pushing friends away. You're pushing me away! And if you don't see anything wrong about that...
Phyllis: [Voice breaking] See, you just -- why can't you see I've done nothing wrong? I'm the person that keeps suffering here. And as far as using my best friend, Michael, I would do it again because I would do anything to see Victor torn apart the way I've been torn apart. [Crying] Why can't you see that? It's...
Jack: I'm worried about what she's gonna do next.
Billy: If Victor's guilty, she'll be fine.
Jack: I don't know that. You heard her just now. She's consumed by this. I'm not sure there's a sentence Victor could get that would satisfy her.
Victor: What could we possibly have to say to each other?
Victoria: I want to know what you intend to do if you're released.
Victor: What are your intentions?
Victoria: You're saying that like I have options, dad. Are you gonna give me any?
Victor: That depends on you.
Victor: If you can forgive me for what I've done, then... I will forgive you for what you've said and done.
Victoria: That's very generous of you, dad.
Victor: I know.
Victoria: But you know that your coming back to Newman -- that's not my decision alone. You were voted out of the company, and the family was united on that.
Victor: And that is gonna be very difficult to deal with, you know? That's the unkindest cut of all. But I think that if you voice your support of me, tell them that you would like me reinstated, I think the others will go alone with it and things will get back to normal.
Victoria: "Back to normal"? What do you mean, dad?
Victor: Well, I mean success and profit for our business.
Victoria: [Sighs] And then there's the lies and the deception and... do you expect to go back to these callous decisions that put us in this mess in the first place?
Victor: I will run the business as I see fit.
Victoria: Well, I'm sorry, dad, but there are gonna have to be some changes.
Victor: No. It's gonna be business as usual.
Victoria: Okay. Fine. Then I want no part of it.
Victor: All right. Then this is how this will play out. You'll be removed from the premises. You'll be disowned. And you kindly relay that message to the others, because it applies to them, as well.
Victoria: Well, Nick and mom have --
Victor: Nick and your mother have betrayed me so profoundly that I will probably never get over it.
Victoria: I guess everything that you said in the courtroom about loving me wasn't true, then.
Victor: You're my daughter. You're Victoria. You're always my special girl. I may have lost everything I've built in my hard life. I will never stop loving you. But this is business.
[Knock on door]
Adam: Yet another embarrassing chapter in the Newman saga.
Chelsea: That was painful. It was. And not just for your family -- for the Abbotts, too. [Sighs]
Adam: My family did good, though, for the most part -- showing Victor that we're not just gonna go blindly and do whatever he says.
Chelsea: Yeah. I like what Nick said, too, how he told Victor he can't keep hurting him and his entire family and -- and using them as an excuse to hurt other people.
Adam: Yeah. What about what I said?
Chelsea: I love what you said.
Adam: Yeah?
Chelsea: Yeah. And I love you. I know how difficult this has been. I mean, you turned down Victor's offer to run Newman.
Adam: Who'd have thunk it?
Chelsea: I am so proud of you. And now, it's -- you know, it's finally over. Adam... it is over, right?
Sage: And that's when faith brought up naming the baby, and Shawn told us a story about her grandfather.
Nick: Yeah, cool. Whatever you want.
Sage: Do you remember that whole talk we had about being honest with each other?
Nick: You don't think I'm being honest?
Sage: No, I think you're being sweet despite thinking that I made this unilateral decision to name the baby.
Nick: It sounded pretty final to me.
Sage: It's not. It's really not final. It was just a suggestion.
Shawn: You don't have to go along with the name thing just to make me happy.
Faith: But I like David. It's a good name.
Sage: But your dad --
Shawn: Seriously. I already know what great parents you guys are gonna be. If you don't like the name --
Nick: Look, the truth is, yes, Sage and I -- we did have some expectations and some things we wanted to do.
Shawn: Like painting the room.
Nick: That's one of them.
Faith: And naming the baby?
Nick: Yeah. But I learned a while ago that clinging to expectations can be a mistake. So, sometimes it's best just to let it go.
Shawn: And...you're okay with...?
Nick: David it is.
Faith: Yay! Did you hear that, little Dave? [Chuckles]
Nick: Uh, your mom's probably expecting you. I should take you home.
Sage: No, no. Let me take her. 'Cause I have to work some things out with Sharon.
Nick: Okay.
Faith: I can't wait to tell mommy how we painted the baby's room. Bye, Shawn. Bye, daddy.
Nick: See you, beautiful.
Faith: See you around, David! [Chuckles]
Nick: [Chuckles]
Sage: Here you go.
[Both chuckle]
Nick: Uh...
Shawn: Oh.
[Both chuckle]
Nick: Here. Let me help you. Might be making it worse. [Chuckles] Sorry.
Nikki: Hey.
Victoria: Hi. [Sighs] So, I just came from seeing dad.
Noah: Okay. How mad is he?
Victoria: He's so confident that he's won, he's itching to disown us.
Nikki: We drew a line in the sand, and he walked right over it.
Victoria: How could you do it, mom? How could you take one drink, today of all days?
Noah: Hey, maybe right now --
Victoria: No. What the hell were you thinking?! You couldn't have done more to help his cause. It's like you were trying to help him win.
Noah: Come on, Vick. What are you doing? Don't take your frustrations out on grandma, okay? I know that you're upset about today.
Victoria: Aren't you?
Noah: Of course I am, but to accuse grandma --
Victoria: Okay, listen. You don't understand, Noah, so just stay out of it. Was this your way of proving your loyalty to dad?
Nikki: How can you even think that?
Victoria: You gave him a way out, mom. You gave him an opening.
Noah: You need to stop this.
Victoria: He practically said to the jury, "look, my wife's a drunk, but I've stood by her and I've supported her, no matter what. What a good guy I am. Don't you think?"
Marisa: You don't mean that. You're upset.
Noah: It's Grandpa who you're mad at, okay? Remember that.
Nikki: I have to go.
Noah: We'll take you home.
Nikki: Thank you, but, um, I-I'll just get a cab. I think I need some alone time.
Noah: Wait, wait. Let's just -- let us walk you out, please.
Nikki: Victoria, I know exactly how he made you feel -- empty, helpless. I've spent a lot of my life the same way.
Adam: I'm sure it's over. My father will be held accountable and be sent to prison.
Chelsea: It just seems like something's bothering you.
Adam: He knows me, you know? Victor -- he knows me. He knows how to get to me.
Chelsea: So, you're saying he did get to you? So, what now? You're gonna make another play for the company? Oh, come on, Adam! Don't you know that this is what Victor wants? He wants to suck you in and --
Adam: No. No. Never again. Okay?
Noah: This is killing me, you know, seeing what this is doing to my grandfather, my aunt, my whole family. I mean, it's like my grandfather's already won.
Marisa: Yeah, watching all of you testify -- the family was holding on to things they've been wanting to say for a while, painful things.
Noah: And now the waiting, just wondering what the verdict's gonna be.
Marisa: Yeah. It has everybody on edge. What was that for?
Noah: For being there, knowing the right things to say, for loving me despite seeing and hearing everything you saw of my -- my family today.
Marisa: Any other reasons?
Noah: Why don't we go up to your room and I'll list them for you?
Nikki: Vodka with a twist of lemon, please.
Victoria: You do realize that you're in the Newman building.
Jack: Yeah, I chanced crossing the threshold in the hopes I might find Nikki here. Noah said something about her coming here to wait for the verdict.
Victoria: Yeah. She took a cab home. Are you worried about her?
Jack: I'm guessing you are, too.
Victoria: Yeah, even more so now that I basically accused her of breaking her sobriety to help my dad's case. I guess I'm not gonna win the daughter of the year award this year.
Jack: Hey, I think you're allowed. This trial has been a strain on everyone, particularly you. I mean, all those years of toiling in Victor's shadow, and not only did you have to oust him, but when the family needed you to, you took Newman on your shoulders.
Victoria: Jack, I'm not that saintly. I wanted the top job. Not that it's gonna last that long once my father's acquitted.
Jack: If. God, I hate all of this. I am sorry for the lengths Phyllis has gone to, the way she and Billy have handled things, from pass key to the trial to -- what am I forgetting?
Victoria: Jack... do you think Billy's changed?
Jack: I think for a long time, Billy has wanted to be taken seriously. He needed a win, a Victory, some success to be judged by, to prove himself.
Victoria: To you?
Jack: No, no. To you more than anyone else. Unfortunately, I think he realized that this particular win -- a win over Victor -- would cost him you.
Victoria: Yeah. And he did it anyway.
Jack: Well, he was coerced. Billy would have walked away from this whole pass key project if Phyllis hadn't been so angry at Victor.
Victoria: He made his own decision, Jack.
Jack: You don't know how driven Phyllis is.
Victoria: Well, I don't blame her. She's been humiliated and violated.
Jack: She wants vengeance. God, does she want vengeance. And she was not gonna take "no" for an answer, not from Michael or Billy.
Victoria: You know, you didn't answer my question.
Jack: I'm sorry. I think I forgot what the question was.
Victoria: Do you think Billy's changed?
Phyllis: You know, the more I think about it, I think Victor Newman might be the devil incarnate. Never really considered it, but it might be possible.
Billy: What are you doing here?
Phyllis: He admitted to being guilty. Said he broke all kind of laws and whenever -- whenever... jury ate it up. Saw it on their faces. My own daughter bought into it, and I don't know how she could do that, knowing what he did, you know?
Billy: I really think that you should be with Jack right now.
Phyllis: Yeah. I should be. But I'm not. I'm here. Why do you think that is? that?
Jack: I think Billy's torn by what he's done, by what he's doing. And now, he imagines that the two of you are beyond reconciling.
Victoria: Billy didn't imagine that. We are beyond reconciliation. At least, that's what I told him.
Jack: Did you mean it?
Victoria: It seems like anytime I need someone to talk to, I go to him 'cause he understands. And I'm such an idiot, Jack.
Jack: Why? Because you love the guy?
Victoria: After everything that he's done --
Jack: Nothing that Billy has done has been out of malice.
Victoria: Are you sure about that?
Jack: I know what malice looks like. I see it in Phyllis' eyes now, and it scares the hell out of me. That's not what's driving Billy. Give him time. Give him a chance. Give yourself a chance to get beyond this trial. This trial has...thrown everything into chaos. All these heightened emotions -- they blur things. They distort things.
Victoria: Actually, it's made something really crystal clear to me. I've reached a monumental decision.
Jack: About Billy?
Victoria: About Newman. If my father is put away, I want to end this war between our families, Jack. I do. I want to take over Newman, and I want to turn it around without my father's help. I want to prove to everyone in my family and everyone -- friends -- that it's possible that Jack Abbott and Victor Newman can end this war between them, and they will with forgiveness.
Jack: I like the sound of that.
Victoria: I know. I-I thought you might.
Jack: Victoria, I've lost my taste for that battle. Unfortunately, your father's taste has only grown.
Victoria: Well, if my father is behind bars, then things will be different.
Jack: There's somebody else you should be telling all this to. Billy.
Billy: Well, I'm right at home with things going to hell. In my world, that's -- that's normal.
Phyllis: [Chuckles] That explains it. I was wondering why the hell I was here.
Billy: Misery loves company kind of thing?
Phyllis: Exactly. I'm gonna tell you a secret about Jack.
Billy: Okay. What is it?
Phyllis: He's right.
Billy: What is Jack right about?
Phyllis: Don't tell him, 'cause I hate it when he's right. I shouldn't have brought Michael in on this. I shouldn't have done that. Victor saw this coming from... [Sighs]
Billy: From miles away.
Phyllis: Yep. He did, and I walked right into his trap, made him the injured party, and it just -- I mean, it's --
Billy: Crazy.
Phyllis: Uh-huh. It makes me crazy. And now, the worst of it is he may walk scot-free, and when I see that look on his smug face...
Billy: You want to smack it off.
Phyllis: [Chuckles] I-I honestly don't know what I'm gonna do, Billy. I don't know how I'm gonna react. I-I get these thoughts, you know? I mean, I get these medieval thoughts that are just, you know, like I want to hurt him. Like, I really want to hurt him. I can see it. It's like a fantasy. It's --
Billy: Okay, you need -- you need to stop. You need to stop thinking like that.
Phyllis: I know. I know. I want to stop thinking like that. I want to stop feeling this way, but I don't know how.
Billy: I do. All these things that you're feeling, I felt about Adam. And the only way you get through it is... forgiveness. I don't even like saying it myself, Phyllis, but the only way that you're gonna get over this is forgiving Victor.
Nick: Oh. Thanks. You know, it was really nice coming home and seeing you and Sage and faith smiling, laughing, covered in paint.
Shawn: It was fun. I read what happened in the courtroom with your father. How are you doing?
Nick: [Sighs] You know, I made a decision a long time ago to kind of separate myself from the way my dad does things, and today, it just reminded me that I made the absolute best decision for me and my family. How about you? How about your family?
Shawn: My mom and dad are pretty strict. They didn't get along much, still don't. Divorced. I live with my dad. I mean, I did. He was so mad when he found out I was...
Nick: When you were having a baby?
Shawn: Yeah. He didn't want me around if I was gonna keep the baby, like he was ashamed of me or something. I just don't get it -- families, the way they treat other. They're supposed to have your back, you know? Most families, I see the way they behave towards each other, and...it doesn't inspire confidence in humanity in general or families in particular.
Nick: Shawn, uh, you know, families -- all relationships, really -- you just have to choose to surround yourself with the right kind of people. And that takes work. You know, you got to always know how they're feeling, and not just the big things, you know, the -- the little things, too. Especially the little things -- the small kindnesses. What?
Shawn: No.
Nick: Shawn. What is it?
Shawn: That's the sweetest, most beautiful thing I've ever heard.
Shawn: I got something in my eye while I was cleaning up.
Sage: Oh, well, thank you for cleaning up. That -- that's very considerate of you.
Nick: I was just telling Shawn that there are such things as happily-ever-afters, if you work at it. We're the perfect example of that. [Smooches]
[Cell phone beeps] Oh.
Sage: What is it?
Nick: More fallout from the trial. I got to deal with this. I'll see you later. [Smooches]
[Door closes]
Sage: Well, um, I'm just gonna go up and get some work done, so if you're hungry, there's food --
Shawn: I'm good. I'll just hang, listen to some music.
Sage: Okay. Uh, just call up there if you need anything.
Shawn: Okay.
Shawn: Little Dave, this is really tough. I'm so sorry. I will always think about you. And I hope -- I hope you can forgive me for walking away.
Phyllis: Okay, now you're sounding like Jack. Now you're scolding me and telling me, "I told you so."
Billy: I'm not scolding you. I'm trying to be smart here. I'm trying to stop you from -- from --
Phyllis: From what? From doing what you did, from what happened to you? You're like the definition of bravery and recklessness.
Billy: No. You can stop right there. There's nothing brave about trying to make your life better by going after Victor. I know how this starts. It starts to take over.
Phyllis: Really? You have no idea how I feel.
Billy: I've been there. These feelings, they start to turn, and you -- you add a little bit of that, all of a sudden, hurting somebody becomes a viable option. I don't want that for you.
Phyllis: Victor needs to pay.
Billy: What happens then? What if it goes too far? What if the next thing you know, Victor's lying on the ground bleeding? What if Victor is dead? What does that do to your life? Gone. What does that do for Jack? Summer? And Daniel, Lucy? Me?
Phyllis: I don't like feeling this way.
Billy: I know you don't.
Phyllis: [Crying] I don't know how to forgive Victor. I don't know how to stop the thoughts. I don't know how to make my feelings go away. What's wrong with me? I just don't understand what's wrong with me.
Billy: It's all right. It's okay.
Phyllis: Oh, God.
Jack: You don't want to do this, Nikki. Let's get you out of here.
Nikki: Hey, hey, hey. Just leave me alone. What -- what -- what were we thinking? We had the audacity to think that we could put Victor Newman behind bars, that it'd be that easy to get justice. We were absolute fools. I never should have gone along with it. I blame my family, and I blame you, Jack. I blame you for keeping this war alive and bringing this out in Victor and turning him... that's -- that's not true. I don't mean that. I'm sorry. I just... I am scared. Jack, I'm so scared.
Reporter: Bad day for Victor Newman. As if the threat of prison wasn't bad enough, the company he founded, Newman enterprises, suffers loss after loss. And his family appears to have abandoned him, too. Is this the beginning of the end for the Newmans?
The jury's back. They've reached a verdict.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Victoria: I went to his place, and he was there with Phyllis.
Jack: You think those two are up to something?
Judge Murray: Victor Newman, on the counts of kidnapping and fraud, the jury finds you...
