Episode # 10794 ~ Jack & Phyllis wonder about Billy's motives; Marisa messes with Luca; Michael levels an accusation at Christine.
Provided By Suzanne
Chelsea: Why didn't you wake me?
Adam: I was filing it all away. Chelsea asleep. Chelsea awake. Chelsea in my arms.
Chelsea: [Sighs] Chelsea grateful you're alive. [Chuckles] When Kevin told me you left the hospital to come save me and Connor, I...
Adam: You wanted to kill me, didn't you?
Chelsea: The thought of you not getting out of there alive, I... I've already lost you -- almost lost you too many times. Don't scare me like that ever again.
Adam: Hey. You don't need to be scared. All right? There's a reason I didn't die two years ago. There's a reason I didn't die in that fire. You. You and Connor. I'll always come back for you. You know that?
Chelsea: Hearing that helps. Connor should hear it, too. Maybe I'll, um, I'll call Anita and have her bring him over.
Adam: Okay. That'd be nice.
Michael: Christine, this is absolutely ridiculous. It's unnecessary.
Chelsea: Are -- are you kidding me? Adam needs his rest. This isn't a good time right now.
Christine: He can rest in his new bunk. It's time to go to prison. .
Sage: [Gasps] Christian. Oh. Christian. [Sobbing]
Victoria: So, the flowers have been delivered, and reverend Wilkins will be there. And if there's anything else, I'll let you know, so... thank you. Hi. Nick, we should probably talk about how we'd like to invite people to get up and speak.
Nick: We're not inviting anyone.
Victoria: Oh. Okay, sure. Of course. I mean, if you want the minister to talk and then you and sage can say something --
Nick: No, no one is talking. There's not gonna be a memorial.
Jack: Hey! Glad you could make it.
Phyllis: Yes. The man with the plan is here to end Victor's reign of terror.
Jack: Yeah, let's hear this. Share with us your brilliance.
Billy: Tough room. Uh, okay, so let me start by stating the obvious -- that Newman Enterprises is in crash-and-burn mode, pardon the pun.
Jack: I'll forget you said that. So, now that Newman is in trouble, your plan is to finish Victor off with some grand final stroke?
Phyllis: Yeah, I'd like some details, please. The bloodier, the better.
Billy: I will, except the opposite.
Jack: You're planning a bloodless coup?
Billy: No, not exactly. I'm proposing that we... save Victor's ass.
Phyllis: No way in hell.
Victor: Well, kindly make sure that the inspector has everything, all right? We'll have to decide when to rebuild and where to relocate to if necessary. Yep. Thank you. Not now. I have other issues to deal with.
Luca: Newman Enterprises. Of course. Between the virus and the fire, your company is compromised. But my family would like to offer their assistance with your recovery.
Victor: Really?
Luca: I'd be happy to discuss an agreement.
Victor: You and I already have an agreement, don't we? You haven't accomplished a damn thing. Why would I enter upon a second deal with you when the first agreement was an abject failure?
Luca: It's not a failure at all.
Victor: Really? She's still here, isn't she?
Marisa: Good morning.
Victor: You have a good day, son.
Marisa: What were you doing with Victor Newman?
Phyllis: You want to save the man who put me through intense humiliation? Why in the hell would you want to save Victor?
Billy: Look, Jack, you yourself said that it was a bad idea to go picking the bones of Newman during the paragon fire sale.
Jack: That was to make sure that Jabot didn't get sideswiped by this whole mess, which it did because of greed. Your greed allowed paragon to prey on us.
Billy: I disagree with that. Ian ward came after both companies, both families.
Phyllis: No, correction -- he came after me, and he got me, and I am never gonna let that happen again. And I am certainly not gonna cuddle up next to Victor because we both hate Ian ward.
Billy: I'm not talking about cuddling up here. Just office space, computers while they're rebuilding.
Phyllis: Here in this building?
Jack: You're gonna give the keys to the kingdom to Victor?
Phyllis: No. This isn't about ethics. This is a romantic gesture.
Billy: Victor's not my type.
Phyllis: Yeah, well, Victoria is. This is her idea, isn't it? You're doing this for the woman you love.
Nick: Sage isn't ready to say goodbye to Christian.
Victoria: No, of course she's not ready. It's the hardest thing in the world. It makes the loss feel real and permanent. But you and I both know that it's necessary in order to start healing.
Nick: I know. Delaying the service isn't gonna change a thing.
Victoria: Do you want me to talk to sage?
Nick: She might feel like we're ganging up on her.
Victoria: No, I don't mean about the memorial. I mean, you know, for support, just one mother to another, just to remind her that it's not just about saying goodbye to Christian. It's about celebrating his life and, you know, to remind her that there's people that love you and want to see you through this.
Nick: Might be better coming from you instead of me. You know, you said this thing the other day about leaving the hospital with things unsettled. [Sighs] I just -- I hate the thought of that, because then the service becomes this big looming thing that can crush us.
Victoria: Let me try with sage.
Nick: Whatever you can do.
Victoria: Okay.
Summer: Dad.
Adam: Michael, can she do this?
Christine: Yes, she can. The law's on my side, and Michael knows it.
Michael: You could have given me more time to take my argument before a judge.
Christine: If you want to fight, fight. But Adam fled custody when he left the hospital, regardless of the reason, and I gave him another night in the hospital to recuperate. I was under no obligation to do that. I would say that the state has been very generous with your client.
Chelsea: Hmm, yeah, generous. Was this before or after he was hit by a car while in your custody?
Christine: I'll give them a chance to say their goodbyes, but your client is gonna start serving his sentence today.
[Door opens]
Michael: If I had known sooner. I am so sorry. I was blindsided. Damn. She's a good D.A.
Chelsea: So he really has to go?
Michael: I'm afraid so. I'll give you two some time.
Adam: Thank you.
[Door opens]
Adam: I'm, uh...
Chelsea: Just -- no. Just hold me.
Michael: You go after an injured man who risked his life to save people? Since when did you become a bully?
Christine: [Scoffs]
Michael: Look, this could be a huge P.R. Nightmare for you.
Christine: A PR nightmare is a convicted felon who escaped custody after evading prosecution for two years for killing a child. People know who and what Adam Newman is, and you can't whitewash him with a couple of good deeds. And by the way, I don't do what I do for the P.R. I respect the law, and I believe that people should be accountable for their crimes. I thought you knew that about me.
Michael: I do know you. I know what you went through last year. I know what you and Paul went through 20 years ago. Hit-and-runs are very personal for you, maybe too personal for this case.
Christine: Not one more word about my motives. Just remember I can still have you charged for aiding and abetting your client's escape.
Luca: Victor and I were talking business. My family wants to help him during this difficult time.
Marisa: Your family only helps themselves. So, what is it that they want?
Luca: Sometimes you forget that there are worse people out there than my family. You gave our child away to protect her from them, and see how that turned out?
Marisa: No, see, I can't say that for myself because you won't tell me where my daughter is. And what kind of father knows his daughter is with horrible people and doesn't try to save her himself?
Luca: I'm not a father because you never gave me the chance. You rejected me and my family. You thought we were the worst thing that could happen to you or a child. Now you know what your decision cost you.
Marisa: You're right. You're right. I made a mistake trusting Marco to protect my daughter.
Our daughter. And I have been unfair to your family. I understand them better knowing Noah's grandfather. Victor and your father are a lot alike. Some would say ruthless, but they would do anything for family.
Luca: You just have to say his name, don't you?
Marisa: Noah's? Luca, I don't want to fight. I am tired of fighting and fires and terrible news. Tonight I just want to forget anything that isn't wonderful and fun. Let's -- take me dancing. Like we used to do. Dinner and drinks. We'll dance all night until we're too tired to move or think.
Luca: I have things to do. But... since you insist on saying his name, here's a name for you. Eva.
Marisa: Eva?
Luca: That's what they call her. Your daughter.
Marisa: Eva.
Nick: Thank you both for coming.
Summer: Yeah, dad. Of course. I mean, we'd camp out here if you'd let us. And you know faith would, too.
Nick: How's she doing?
Noah: She still doesn't know.
Nick: I got to be the one to tell her about her baby brother. But I don't know how to do it. I wasn't even here. I was at the Newman tower. When I got back, it was too late.
Noah: Dad, don't do that. The way that you say it --
Summer: It's like you're -- it's like you're blaming yourself, dad. You can't do that. The doctors were here.
Nick: I promised Christian that I would always be there for him.
Summer: And you were.
Noah: Our little brother had the best father anybody could ask for. And you need to know that.
Nick: Thanks. All right, um, I'm gonna go talk to the minister and tell him there might be a service after all.
Summer: I-I can go with you if you want.
Nick: Thanks. I need to do this alone.
Summer: Okay. Love you.
[Cell phone chimes]
Noah: Um, I need to take care of this. Will you text me if they decide to go ahead with the service? I'll get here as soon as I can.
Summer: Yeah.
Noah: Thank you.
Summer: Yeah.
Victoria: I know that a memorial to you might be scary and it might not provide the closure, but at least it's a chance for you to say goodbye.
Sage: [Sobbing] But I don't want to say goodbye. I don't want to. I want him here with me. I want to wake up every day and see his face. I want to watch him grow and play and smile. And I want to hold him.
Victoria: I know. I wanted the same thing for my daughter, eve. She was premature just like Christian, but she wasn't as strong as Christian. She couldn't fight, and she left this world way too early.
Sage: Why are you making this about you? This is my baby, my loss, my decision, not yours. Don't you dare say this is the same thing.
Phyllis: So, this is how you're proving your love? "Let me save your daddy"?
Billy: Ugh. I'm certain I've never referred to Victor as daddy.
Jack: Billy, why are you riding the white horse?
Billy: That's a valid question. Look, Newman is more than just snidely. It's -- it's Victoria and Chelsea, Abby, Nick, who's going through hell right now and doesn't need to be worried about work, too.
Phyllis: We heard about the baby. It's heartbreaking.
Jack: I'm pretty sure the last thing on Nick's mind right now is Newman.
Phyllis: I agree, and humoring Victor is not gonna ease Nick's pain right now.
Jack: Besides, given the condition that Newman is in right now, we have a good chance of getting Chelsea and Abby back here.
Billy: Now's who's picking the Newman carcass? I just went after subsidiaries. You're going after actual people.
Jack: They're the most valuable asset. I think Ashley would agree with that.
Billy: Who is unreachable. And this thing's on a clock. Look, Newman needs a place to start rebuilding now.
Phyllis: Oh, pl-- let them use the ranch. Or how about their stables? I think that would be much better.
Billy: You know how all those people got out of that burning building? By working together. Now, look, I'm not talking about holding hands and banging drums and sharing feelings, but how about we don't be jerks?
Jack: All right. So we don't be jerks. We share our office space with Newman.
Phyllis: Hello! Do I get a vote? Because I vote for being a jerk.
Jack: I'm pretty sure this is not gonna happen. Victor loathes charity.
Billy: Right, right, which is why you can't position this as charity.
Jack: Wait. Me?
Billy: Yeah, I kind of failed to mention that. You're the only person who could convince Victor this is a good idea, so good luck with that.
Phyllis: [Scoffs]
Victor: Hold it a minute, please. According to the judge, my son isn't going anywhere. mat for Victor so he can exploit the
Phyllis: You want Jack to personally lay out the welcome mat for Victor so he can exploit our overly generous hospitality?
Billy: Look, Jack said it himself. Victor won't take charity. So, he has to make it clear that this is just an act of business camaraderie.
Jack: Billy's right. It has to come from me.
Phyllis: You both know where I stand on this.
Billy: I may have missed it. Could you lay it out for me again?
Phyllis: You know, you're pretty irritating sometimes. You know that?
Billy: Yeah.
[Cell phone chimes]
Phyllis: All right, that's summer. Uh, she needs me. I will see both of you at the hospital chapel later.
Jack: I'll walk you out.
Phyllis: Okay. I really hope that this is part of your plan. You promised payback after Marco. I did not forget that, so don't you, either.
Christine: Everyone, just wait a second while I have a chance to read this.
Victor: Well, let me paraphrase, okay? The prison sentence stands, but Adam has been granted a few days so that he can heal from the wounds that he incurred while saving people's lives.
Chelsea: So he -- he can stay?
Christine: [Sighs] For now. Please have the prisoner brought back to his room. He remains cuffed to the bed.
Chelsea: Thank you. Thank you.
Christine: This is a travesty of justice.
Victor: I disagree with you. I think it is justice. He saved lives. He risked his own life to save others. He deserves a few days off.
[Door opens]
Adam: Thank you for that.
Victor: You deserve this, son. You saved a lot of people's lives. Besides, this will give us a chance to work with Michael on an appeal. You mark my word. We will win.
Noah: Hey, what's wrong? You okay?
Marisa: There's something going on in Luca's mind. He's shutting me out. He's saying I have to live with my decisions.
Noah: [Sighs] He knows.
Marisa: What?
Noah: About us at the benefit. He knows.
Marisa: What did he say?
Noah: "I know. I'll make sure it won't happen again." That kind of thing. Damn it. I'm sorry.
Marisa: Noah, if -- if he knows I broke our deal, he'll punish me. He won't tell me where my Eva is.
Noah: Eva?
Marisa: That's her name. That's what they call my daughter.
Noah: It's nice. That'll help Kevin find her.
Marisa: It may help, but it's taking too long. I don't have time for him to search every corner of the internet. My daughter does not have that time.
Noah: You don't know how long it's gonna take.
Marisa: No, you don't know. You have no idea what it's like to be separated from your child.
Noah: Well, I just came from the hospital, and I had to listen to my father grieve the death of his infant son, so... I kind of have an idea.
Victoria: I swear I'm not trying to compare our losses. This is heartbreaking. And I'm really just here to let you know that I know what you're going through. I mean, this heartache, it's always gonna be there. But the feeling that you're not gonna survive -- it's gonna fade away. It's gonna become something less brutal.
Sage: But you get to go home to Johnny and Katie, and reed will come visit. Three kids. You have three beautiful, perfect children. Of course you can go on. Christian was my miracle, my only chance, and he's gone.
Victoria: I'm sure that Nick never mentioned this, but the doctors told me that I would never have children. Johnny's not my biological child, but Katherine -- she was a surprise blessing.
Sage: A miracle.
Victoria: Yeah. A miracle.
Sage: Christian was mine. And who gets a second miracle, Victoria? Not people like me. I left him. I walked out of this hospital, and my baby -- my miracle -- was not here when I got back.
Victoria: I know. I know. You know, Nick's feeling the loss, too. Neither one of you got to say goodbye. I know the memorial is just -- is not the same, but at least -- at least it's something. Sage, Nick needs this. He needs you. Don't lose each other in this. You've already lost too much. And remember that you made a miracle, and remember that Nick loves you.
Nick: I wasn't sure if Victoria should come.
Sage: I was awful to her, just like I was to you, and I'm so sorry. Please forgive me.
Nick: I'm sorry, too. The last thing I want is for this to be harder than it already is for either one of us.
Sage: It's not hard. It's impossible.
Nick: I know. We just got to take it one step at a time. This memorial can be whenever or however you want it to be.
Sage: [Voice breaking] I don't want it to be.
Nick: I know you don't. But Christian was here. He came into this world. He was taken from us way too soon, but he was here, and we need to find some way to honor that, to mark the moment. These -- these rituals exist for a reason.
Sage: We should be celebrating his christening, Nick. Christian should be in our arms, and the priest should be asking God to look over him. We should be paying tribute to his birth, his amazing existence. We should be planning his future.
Nick: We never got that chance.
Sage: No, we didn't, because he's gone, and he's not coming back. So I don't need to mark this day. I don't need a reminder. I will never, ever forget this day. But I think that you should go. If it brings you peace, even for just a second, you should go. But I'm not gonna be there.
Nick: Sage, I promise you, if you don't go to this, you will regret it for the rest of your life. [Voice breaking] We weren't there for him the night he passed. But we can be there for him for this.
Sage: I'm not going. Please respect my decision. I think you should go to the memorial. But you're gonna go without me.
Marisa: My heart breaks for your father and sage and for Christian's entire family.
Noah: I left my dad to be here. I need to get back to the hospital, okay?
Marisa: Would you like me to come with you?
Noah: No, you don't have to do that. It's just family.
Marisa: Luca, I need you to meet me right now in our suite.
Victor: You got in league with the devil.
Adam: If I knew he was back in town, I would have done...
Victor: I know you would have stopped him. I know that now. Anyway, get some rest, okay? You too, Chelsea. I'll keep you informed about the appeal, okay?
[Door opens]
[Door closes]
Chelsea: [Sighs]
Adam: Did that just happen?
Chelsea: [Chuckles] It did.
Adam: Huh.
Chelsea: And if you didn't believe it before, you should believe it now. Your father loves you.
Victor: Michael.
Michael: Victor. Um, please know how sorry Lauren and I are about the passing of your grandson.
Victor: Oh. [Sighs] Wish there were more I could do for Nicholas. But maybe now I can do something for my other son. I think the verdict against Adam needs to be reversed. I think we need to pay attention to the appeal, okay?
Michael: It's a long shot.
Victor: I know it's a long shot, but I have something in mind.
Jack: Well, I guess I'm on.
Billy: Go get him, tiger.
Jack: Michael.
Michael: Jack, good to see you. Excuse me.
Jack: Victor, my heart goes out to you and your family. The loss of a child wounds like nothing else.
Victor: I appreciate the sentiment, Jack. What else do you want?
Jack: To help raise Newman Enterprises from the ashes.
Summer: Dad has this look in his eyes. It's more than grief. This isn't the first time he's had to suffer this way.
Phyllis: When Nick lost Cassie. Something broke inside of him. Yeah, him having to go through this again, I...
Summer: I know that I can't fix it, but to -- to give him even a little relief would be something.
Phyllis: I know. And he knows that you're here for him. You have no idea what that means to him. You just stay close. And you talk when he wants to talk and stay quiet when there's nothing else to say. Let him hug you, 'cause he's gonna need a lot of love through this. All right?
Summer: Okay. I love you. And I'm really, really lucky to have you as my dad. And I'm really sorry that you're hurting right now.
Nick: Thanks. I love you, too.
Phyllis: She's right. Nick, we can't fix this. It's... no one can fix this. But you are an amazing father with an intense capacity for fatherly devotion, and Christian had that from you every second he was on this planet. And I know in my heart he felt that love. I'm so sorry.
Luca: What's so important?
Marisa: It hasn't been right between us, Luca. This isn't how things should be. We both say things that are unfair, and if I offended you by talking about your family, I'm sorry. Okay? It used to be easy for us to talk about everything. It should be easy again. Should we toast to that? It being easy again? Or should we toast to something else?
Luca: How about you just stop lying?
Adam: Loves me? I don't know if I'd go so far as to say that Victor loves me. I think maybe there's a newfound respect there.
Chelsea: No, it's more than just respect, Adam. Something's changed between the two of you. For once, you're not pushing him away, and for once, he's not being rude and defensive.
Adam: Hmm.
Chelsea: He wants to help you, and for once, you're actually letting him.
Adam: Maybe. Or, you know, maybe it's just him not wanting any of his offspring to go to the big house, you know, shaming the family name?
Chelsea: Well, considering he's had some of his own children arrested, I don't think that's what it is.
Adam: That's true.
Chelsea: Why don't you just accept it? I mean, this is what you've always wanted deep down.
Adam: I'm not disagreeing with you. Having him on my side would be, you know... nice.
Chelsea: Nice? Are you being serious?
Adam: You know, being able to look at him and not feeling rejected, dismissed -- that would also be...nice, I guess.
Chelsea: What you did at Newman tower was incredible. You were the man you've always wanted to be. You were the man Victor always hoped you would be. So just accept that. Accept the reward within that.
Adam: Well, right now, all I want to accept is this extra time I get to spend with you and Connor.
Chelsea: It might be hard to see this right now, but we're actually lucky.
Adam: Mm-hmm.
Chelsea: You know that? Because we get a future. We get to look forward to an eventual future together as a family. [Sighs] But Nick and sage? It's so awful. Nick said that they're not sure they can have the memorial for Christian today because sage -- she just...she can't handle it.
Jack: Newman Enterprises and Jabot have shared office space before. It wouldn't be unprecedented.
Victor: I'm not in the habit of making the same mistake twice, Jack.
Jack: It's merely a practical matter.
Victor: Hmm.
Jack: Look, Newman Enterprises employs a great many people in this town. It seems to me it would be in everyone's best interest if the company were back in fighting shape.
Victor: Hmm. And for that, I need your help?
Jack: Paragon had your company on its knees long before your offices became a disaster area. This is simply a practical matter. You need the infrastructure of an established office. You don't have time to set up an open space from scratch.
Victor: And you know what I need? Don't try to play hero with me.
Jack: You're really gonna let your pride get in the way of what's best for your company?
Victor: Now, you know better than anyone I've rebuilt my company several times. And I will do it again. Just watch me.
Marisa: You want to talk about the truth? Okay. You saw me sneak off to be with Noah, didn't you? And you didn't say a word. Now you want to punish me.
Luca: We had an agreement.
Marisa: You wanted me in your suite. I'm in your suite. You wanted a month to remember why we were together. Is that all you thought it would take? A month? To forget everything your family did to me, to forget how you sided with them? You know why I'm here. I am here so you can tell me where my daughter is.
Your daughter. Where is she? Where's Eva?
Luca: The point was for us to be a family.
Marisa: Tell me where she is!
Luca: What do you care? You don't even want to know.
Marisa: Of course I do! That's all that I want!
Luca: But you didn't want it enough. You wanted to have sex with Noah more. Congratulations. You made your choice. And I've made mine.
Noah: Hey, dad. Summer texted me. You going through with the service?
Nick: Yeah, this needs to happen today.
Phyllis: I can get sage if that's what you want me to do.
Nick: She's not coming. She can't, so I have to say goodbye to Christian for both of us. [Sighs]
[Knock on door]
Adam: Hey.
Sage: What? Did you escape custody again? Or am I so pathetic you got special dispensation? Go away, please.
Adam: I'm actually working the buddy system. My guard's right outside, so don't try anything. I'm sorry, sage.
Sage: Like you give a damn.
Adam: I'm here, aren't I?
Sage: Yeah, you're here because it's all about you. If I learned one thing today, it's that people make everything about themselves. Their pain, their loss, their guilt.
Adam: I'm -- I'm trying to apologize to you, okay? The only reason you're in this town is because of me, and if that hadn't happened --
Sage: What happened is that I met your brother and I convinced myself that it was fate, that I could save him, he could save me from loneliness and having no one and nothing to call my own. But that's all gone now, and I'm back to where I started, aren't I? With nothing.
Adam: Come on, sage. Don't say that. That's not true.
Sage: You'll never get it. You'll never understand. You're a Newman. You can play the black sheep all you want. Doesn't matter. Christian was mine. My family, my blood. And now he's gone. And now Nick can go back to his life and be with his family and his children. Is that where he is right now? And I'm stuck here with nothing because my baby is gone.
Victoria: Jack just made you an offer, one that shows real kindness and respect, and you're turning him down?
Victor: Did you know about this scheme of his?
Billy: It's not a scheme. It's just an act of decency.
Victor: And you were in on it, weren't you, Victoria? That proves that the offer is insincere.
Victoria: And here's the proof you're as stubborn as a mule.
Victor: This is still my company. I make the decisions.
Jack: It is a practical solution to your problems.
Victor: Billy boy, this is your way of getting a piece of Newman?
Victoria: A piece of what, dad? A company that is still smoldering as we speak? Jack reached out to you. He made the first move. Accepting it doesn't mean that you're weak. It shows that you're rational and human.
Victor: It's a matter of a building, a few computers, a few desks. That can easily be arranged.
Victoria: And apparently you're still incapable of taking my advice. Go ahead, dad. Fine. Have at it. Rebuild Newman without me.
Jack: Well done. You said you wanted to rebuild Newman all by your lonesome. You may just get your wish.
Victor: You bet.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Nick: Christian Andrew Newman. That's why we're here today -- to honor his brief time on this earth.
Gwen: I love Neil, and I would do anything for him.
Devon: Just how far would you go?
Paul: Genoa City police department. Mind if I ask a few questions?
