Episode # 10750 ~ Things heat up between Victoria & Billy; Cane & Michael land in hot water; Lily asks Devon about Hilary's disappearance.
Provided By Suzanne
Victoria: [Sighs] Thank you so much for meeting me here, Chelsea. It's a nice break from the office.
Chelsea: I assume you want to lay down ground rules now that my line is under the Newman umbrella?
Victoria: Look, I'm not here to dictate terms. My father and I respect your talent. You're an artist. But you're also very responsible. You made deadlines, and I know you don't need to be managed. I know that you and I have butted heads in the past from time to time, but that's because when something's important, I tend to overfunction. But from now on, I intend to be more hands-off. And between your design vision and your marketing know-how, we're going to make your brand very successful. So that's why I wanted to meet today. I wanted to clear the air and make sure that there were no misunderstandings moving forward.
Chelsea: Oh, I understand perfectly. Your father used my son to blackmail Gabe and me into staying in town.
Adam: I'm sure you're probably both wondering why I asked for this meeting.
Jack: There's no reason for me to be here. Ashley is running things now.
Adam: I understand that completely. Congratulations. But, uh, you're the one who gave me my start here at jabot, right? You understand why I have to stay here in Genoa city more than anyone.
Ashley: I'm aware that Victor gave Chelsea a hard time to make sure that she didn't take his grandson abroad. What does that have to do with Jack and me?
Adam: Chelsea and Connor have become the most important things in my life. I need to prove to them that I'm worthy.
Ashley: That's gonna take more than just words.
Adam: I agree with that, which is why I'm here to, uh, ask for my old job back.
Ashley: Job? You want to work at jabot again?
Billy: I'll save ash the trouble of answering. There's no way in hell.
Cane: Hey, uh, lily, is Devon there with you?
Lily: Yeah, do you want to talk to him?
Cane: No, no, no. And you can't tell him what I'm gonna tell you, okay?
Lily: Um, that should be fine.
Cane: All right, now, if he's looking at you, just I need you to be cool.
Lily: Yeah, I can hear you.
Devon: What'd he say? Is there any news?
Lily: No.
Cane: We may have a witness that saw Hilary after she fell.
Lily: Okay.
Cane: The witness saw her unconscious, and she was being carried off by a man who -- who actually matched Devon's description. Are you there? Lily?
Lily: Yeah, um, uh, hold on a second. Cane wants to talk to me about the twins. Do you mind if I just go...
Devon: Yeah, that's fine.
Lily: Okay. Okay, Devon can't hear me. But I am telling you, he did not hurt Hilary. Do you hear me?
Cane: Then how then do you explain the eyewitness?
Neil: You know, Devon is blaming himself for what happened. And he should. He's just as responsible as I am for putting you right here in this bed, hooked up to thi-- this is empty. Hilary. Hilary, don't you die. Don't you die on me! [Sighs] Another IV right here. Okay, I got you. Hilary, I got you. Don't you worry about it. You hang in there, all right? [Sighs] Come on. Come on!
Lily: Now there's a reward, I'm sure there's eyewitnesses lined up around the block.
Cane: Okay, but Michael and I believe that this one's very legit.
Lily: Well, why did he take so long to come forward? Oh, wait, I know. There's a million reasons why.
Cane: I understand why you're skeptical. All right, here. Michael wants to talk to you for a sec.
Michael: Hey, lily. We have to at least entertain the possibility that he is telling the truth. Cane spoke to this man in depth. He seems like the real deal.
Lily: Well, that did he say exactly?
Michael: He said he saw a man carrying a woman's limp body away from the shore.
Lily: So why did he wait until now to report it?
Michael: The man's first thought was that the woman was passed out drunk. It's a tourist area. This kind of stuff happens. He didn't even consider that anything else could be possible until he saw the fliers about the missing American woman. He went back through news reports, and when he saw photos of Devon --
Lily: Virgin Gorda is a tiny place. You have to be living under a rock to not see the news coverage.
Michael: All right, listen to me, lily. As Devon's lawyer, I'm asking you. I need your help. The only way we can know if this witness is credible is if you talk to your brother. You get him to tell you what really happened.
Lily: If you saw how much agony he's in, you wouldn't be asking me to do that.
Michael: Maybe there's another reason for it besides stress. Devon could be holding something back.
Lily: Wow. I should really hang up on you right now.
Michael: Listen to me. I told you I'm Devon's attorney. It is my job to ask the ugly questions before the prosecution does.
Lily: Fine. I'll see what I can do.
Michael: We'll be waiting to hear from you.
Lily: Sorry that took so long.
Devon: It's -- I should be the one to apologize.
Lily: Why?
Devon: 'Cause I feel bad making Cane leave you and the kids to go look for Hilary.
Lily: No, you didn't make him do anything. He offered. Uh, I guess the police are giving Cane and Michael a hard time down there.
Devon: Why? What now?
Lily: Well, they're trying to punch holes in your alibi. You know, I was thinking maybe we should go over your story again of what happened that day. Maybe there's some details that you missed that could really help Cane and Michael.
Devon: I thought that Cane called to ask you about the kids. What was it really about?
Neil: Hilary, you know, if I wanted to let you die, I would have let you drown in virgin Gorda. But I saved you, and I brought you back to this dream house where we should have been living all this time. [Sighs deeply] This can't go on. It can't. I don't know exactly what I'm doing. I mean, I can -- I can change your I.V. And I can check your pulse. But you're gonna need some more help. And I know exactly where to go to get it. You stay right here. I'll be back.
Victoria: It's funny. Gabriel accused my father of the same thing the other day.
Chelsea: Yeah, because it's true. When Victor saw I was willing to give up my fashion line to get out from under his influence, he convinced a judge to stop us from leaving town, Victoria. And now he's trying to sue for visitation.
Victoria: It's because he loves his grandson. Why don't you understand that? It's the only piece of Adam that he has left. And if you take Connor to France, my dad loses his connection with his grandson.
Chelsea: Well, maybe Victor should have thought about that, you know, and then paid more attention to loving Adam while he was still alive instead of trying to control him.
Victoria: We can't go back now, Chelsea. Not you, not my father, and certainly not Adam.
Chelsea: No, we can't go back. But you can understand how hard it is to go forward when someone as stubborn as Victor is trying to meddle in my life. I would think that you of all people, Victoria, would understand that.
Victoria: Actually, I do. My father had me arrested on my wedding day to try to keep me from marrying Billy.
Chelsea: Seriously? Oh, wow. It's hard to top that. When did that happen?
Victoria: Actually, it was five years ago today.
Adam: Well, Billy, you know, I wasn't asking for your permission. I was offering my services to your sister Ashley here. I was hoping for an endorsement from Jack.
Billy: You were offering your services? I think -- I think we all saw the way that you worked every angle to claw your way to the top of Newman-Abbott.
Jack: At Victor Newman's expense. That is not a small thing.
Billy: Have you lost your mind? This guy is a snake, and we've all seen the way that he operates. Why on earth would you want to bring him back here?
Jack: Maybe because I understand Gabe in a way you don't.
Billy: I guess you must.
Jack: Look, no one here should be throwing stones, you included.
Ashley: I think I've heard enough. You've been given so many chances, Gabe, to prove yourself. And guess what? You have proven yourself -- to be an untrustworthy, power-driven egomaniac.
Billy: Can I get an amen?
Adam: Is it possible for me to get a word in here?
Jack: I believe that everything Ashley just said about you is true. But I also believe those are the very reasons she should hire you.
Billy: Let me get this straight. You want jabot to hire a lying weasel because he's a lying weasel.
Jack: You want to take on Victor Newman, hire somebody who can out-Victor Victor.
Billy: Jack, he did that for all of five minutes. If you haven't noticed, Victor's back in the chair even after he shot you.
Ashley: When you asked me to take over as C.E.O., You used words such as "honest" and "integrity." How does hiring a man like this do anything to serve our father's legacy? Please tell me.
Adam: Now, I never knew john Abbott, but from what I can gather, he would be sympathetic to Chelsea. Victor stole her company out from under her. He -- he's forcing her to stay here in Genoa city just so he can fulfill his pathological need to control her son. Now, if you help me, you'll be helping Chelsea stick it to Victor. I say it's a win/win.
Billy: How about you don't use my father's name to try and finagle a paycheck?
Jack: Billy --
Billy: No, no. You want to help Chelsea, you kick this guy to the curb where he belongs.
Jack: Unfortunately, Billy, you don't get a vote.
Billy: Wow. What happened to you being the old Jack, a guy that I admired and trusted?
Jack: [Sighs]
Adam: Thanks for standing behind me, Jack. I appreciate that.
Ashley: Save your thanks, Gabe. Jack doesn't have a vote, either.
Victoria: So, there I was in my wedding dress, ready to become Mrs. William Abbott when the squad car rolled up. [Sighs] That's how far my father was willing to go to keep me from marrying somebody that he detested.
Chelsea: [Chuckles] Wow. I'm sor-- I'm sure it was not funny at -- at the time, but looking back on it now...
Victoria: Billy and I had the last laugh. We still became husband and wife. We said our wedding vows just as they were shoving me into the back of a police car. But my father, you know, he didn't get his way. However, I did spend my wedding night in a jail cell.
Chelsea: But still, I mean, you won. Despite everything Victor tried to pull, you and Billy, you got to married and you got to have a life together.
Victoria: It could be the same way for you and Gabe. Paris might have to wait, but at least you'll be together.
Chelsea: And what about you and Billy? Do you want to be back together? I'm not trying to pry, but you're the one who called this meeting looking for some common ground.
Victoria: No, absolutely. I just -- I don't feel very comfortable talking to you about Billy.
Chelsea: Billy and I, we -- we were never meant to be.
Victoria: Do you think we are?
Chelsea: Do you really have to ask me that?
Devon: Well, that's a lie. Nobody saw me carrying Hilary 'cause I wasn't there.
Lily: That's why we have to back up your alibi. This witness is willing to come forward.
Devon: That's just 'cause of all the reward money I offered, right?
Lily: Yeah, I asked Michael about that.
Devon: And what did he say? Why is he even believing this guy?
Lily: Because the guy's story is credible. He was on the beach that night, saw this woman that he thought was drunk, and saw this man carrying her off. And he didn't think about it until he saw the news coverage and put two and two together.
Devon: God.
Lily: Look, Michael is afraid that if this guy comes forward, he's gonna be a star witness. Now, I need you to be honest with me. If you were out on the trail with Hilary... [Sighs] Devon, I swear I will not judge you. But you have to help me, 'cause I can't help you unless you help me first.
Cane: So, do you think lily's right? You think the man I spoke to is just after the reward money?
Michael: About to find out.
Cane: Jimmy, hey. Um, I told you I was gonna contact you. I have your information. We have to verify something, okay?
Jimmy: I know what I saw.
Cane: And now you want your money. But it doesn't work that way.
Jimmy: How does it work?
Michael: Hey. My name is Michael Baldwin. I'm Mr. Hamilton's attorney. Uh, basically we have to check out your story, make sure that your claims line up with our evidence. And it takes time.
Cane: And if your information's reliable and we find Mrs. Hamilton, I have your information. I'll contact you. But if it doesn't turn out to be reliable, then it's not worth anything.
Michael: You just can't expect us to hand over $1 million. Surely you understand.
Cane: Right.
Jimmy: If what I know isn't valuable to you, I'm sure it will be to the police.
Michael: Look, we're just asking for time to confirm things.
Jimmy: Or to cover up the truth for your client.
Cane: Jimmy. Jimmy! Jimmy!
Michael: Cane, let him go. Let him go. If you assault him, it just makes things worse. Just calm down.
Neil: [Sighs]
Gwen: Neil!
Neil: Hi. Gwen! Yeah. What -- what are you doing here at the hospital? Are you okay?
Gwen: I'm great. I was just taking my sister out to lunch. Neil, this is Emma.
Neil: Oh, your sister. Emma. It's, uh, nice to meet you. Gwen's told me a lot about you.
Emma: Yeah, what were you doing in the supply closet? It's a restricted area.
Neil: Yeah, well, the truth is, I stopped by to pick up a prescription, help me sleep. I haven't been getting much of that recently ever since Hilary disappeared, you know. I'm sure you can understand what that's like. As a matter of fact, reporters have been hounding me for a quote, so...
Emma: Yeah, Gwen told me how supportive you've been standing by your son. But if you are looking for the pharmacy, it's down the hall.
Neil: Yeah, and I was actually headed that way when I spotted a news reporter. He kind of came at me, so I-I saw this closet. I ducked inside.
Gwen: That's terrible. No one deserves to be harassed like that. You must be under so much stress.
Neil: Yeah, I actually am, especially since Hilary disappeared. It's been rough on all of us, especially Devon. I mean, the longer it takes to find her, the harder it is to hold out hope.
Gwen: Well, if you need anything, call me. I mean it.
Neil: Yeah, yeah, uh, thank you, Gwen. I appreciate that. I'm grateful to have you to turn to.
Lily: Look, if you're not comfortable talking here, we can go wherever you want.
Devon: By talking, you mean confess to something I didn't do?
Lily: Devon, come on.
Devon: You say you're not judging me, but you're willing to believe some stranger's word over mine.
Lily: No, I'm not. I'm trying to prove your innocence.
Devon: I don't have to prove my innocence. They have to prove that I'm guilty, which they can't do.
Lily: Would you please be realistic about this? The media has already tried and convicted you, and the longer this drags on, the more witnesses are gonna come forward claiming they have information.
Devon: Let them come forward 'cause I don't have anything to hide.
Lily: Okay, then why won't you talk to me? You can trust me, okay? I know the kind of man you are.
Devon: You're the ones who don't trust me. And I don't know how I'm supposed to convince a jury of my innocence when my sister, her husband, and my own damn lawyer think that I'm a murderer.
Lily: Wait. Devon. Come back. Wa-- Devon! [Sighs]
Victoria: Hey.
Billy: Hey.
Victoria: Where are the kids?
Billy: Uh, Hannah took them to the park. Would you believe I was just putting these back in the box?
Victoria: It's cheaper than therapy, right?
Billy: Scary how well you know me.
Victoria: [Sighs]
Billy: Looks like I'm not the only one who's having a bad day.
Victoria: Go on. You first.
Billy: Well, I should start by apologizing for just showing up here without calling. But I need to be in a place where somebody actually thinks I'm worth something. To Johnny and Katie, I'm still a hero.
Victoria: Yeah, they take after their mother. So, what happened today? Why are you in such a funk?
Billy: It was Jack, of all people. He was cheerleading for Gabe Bingham, who was bludgeoning ash, trying to get her to give him a job at jabot.
Victoria: A job at jabot? Hmm. Who won?
Billy: I don't know. I left. They were still battling it out. Hopefully ash told them where they could stick it. You know, I don't get it, Vicki. I've always seen Jack as like the smartest guy in town and not because he went to Harvard, but because...you know, he's had this great B.S. Detector and he could see through this stuff, so why he doesn't see through Gabriel Bingham I'll never know. The guy's like the prince of darkness.
Victoria: [Chuckles]
Billy: Something funny?
Victoria: Well, you used to say the same thing about my father. So if Gabriel has claimed that title, then I guess we're making a little progress.
Billy: [Chuckles]
Jack: As chairman of the board, I should have some say in who makes up the executive team.
Ashley: When you put me in charge, you guaranteed me no strings.
Jack: There are no strings. You have the helm. You steer the ship as you see fit.
Ashley: Fantastic. Gabe, you know your way out.
Adam: Thank you for your time.
Jack: I'll walk you to the elevator, Gabe.
Adam: Thanks for trying.
Jack: Look, I know how much you want to carve out a life with Chelsea and Connor, and I want to help, but Ashley's right. I can't ask her to take over the company and then tell her to hire somebody she doesn't want to hire. Besides, you and Billy are toxic together.
Adam: Yeah, yeah, I don't like him at all.
Jack: You don't exactly have too many friends at Newman, either.
Adam: Jack, what if there were a, um, a project that didn't require me interacting with anyone from jabot or Newman, like a high-priority challenge that would require somebody with knowledge of both companies?
Jack: Sounds like you've given this some thought.
Adam: I have. Ever since you told me about your handshake deal with Victor to try to figure out who was behind the paragon project.
Jack: We do need somebody who can monitor both systems, somebody who can keep this threat from becoming a reality, kind of a troubleshooter.
Adam: Jack... who finds trouble better than I do?
Jack: I am not here to tell you how to run jabot.
Ashley: Great, then walk away.
Jack: I have.
Ashley: Once more with feeling, Jackie.
Jack: I am as surprised as you are by Gabe's proposal.
Ashley: And yet you want him here, somebody that you're not gonna have to deal with every day, all day like Billy and I will.
Jack: I don't blame you for not wanting to work side by side with someone you don't particularly care for.
Ashley: Thank you very much. Then jabot will therefore remain a Gabe-free zone.
Jack: But if this paragon project is real -- and I believe it is -- we're gonna have a lot bigger problems than personality clashes. Gabe knows both companies inside out. He also knows our computer systems.
Ashley: Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. Where are you going with this?
Jack: I'm suggesting Gabe could be a great independent contractor to keep an eye on both systems in case there's any kind of a breach.
Ashley: That's just hilarious. That's like asking Dracula to guard the blood bank.
Jack: He's the right man for the job, and you know it.
Ashley: A job that didn't exist five minutes ago, Jack!
Jack: I'm aware of that, ash. I --
Ashley: Look, this is a position that does not need filling. And if the paragon project exists -- which I'm not conceding it does -- I might have an idea of who's behind it, somebody that I'm gonna be investigating myself.
Jack: And you're not gonna tell me who it is?
Ashley: No. I don't think I am.
Chelsea: How did your meeting go at jabot?
Adam: Well, uh, you know what? Truthfully, the jury's still out. Well, actually, it's more like a hung jury, you know, with one lone hold-out.
Chelsea: Jack?
Adam: Yeah. He's making quite a case for me to get my job back in spite of Billy and Ashley hating my guts. Actually, he was going to bat for me one more time when I left the building. So I don't know. We'll see. You know, I'm sort of hopeful.
Chelsea: Good. It's nice to see you optimistic for a change.
Adam: Well, I've got you and I've got Connor back in my life, so world's a better place. And soon...
Chelsea: Soon what?
Adam: Well, I was just thinking, you know, soon we'll be living together.
Chelsea: Yeah. I can't wait.
Adam: Yeah?
Chelsea: Yeah. Come sit.
Adam: Yeah. So, um, tell me. How did your, uh, how'd your command performance with Victoria go?
Chelsea: Surprisingly well.
Adam: Really?
Chelsea: Yeah, I was kind of expecting her to pull some kind of a power trip or something, you know, but she didn't. We just talked like a couple of friends, believe it or not, about our kids, about our love lives.
Adam: Couple of friends talking about love lives. Tell you what, here's the thing about a Newman. When they start acting nice, you can expect a knife in the neck, okay?
Chelsea: Well, that's a delightful image. Thank you for that.
Adam: I'm just saying they're all the same, you know. You can't trust them.
Chelsea: Can't trust them, huh?
Adam: Mnh-mnh.
Chelsea: All the Newmans?
Adam: Well, not -- not -- you know, present company excluded. You can trust me.
Chelsea: Yeah. And oddly enough, I do.
Neil: Hey. I got your message. I rushed right over. What's going on?
Devon: Lily talked to Michael and Cane, and apparently there's -- there's a new witness saying that --
Neil: Wait. Hold on. A witness? What are they saying?
Devon: All I know is someone responded to the reward offer, and they say that they saw Hilary being carried off by a man who matches my description. Hey, listen, I hate to drag you any deeper into this, right, but lily, Cane, and Michael, they're -- they're doubting me. I don't have anybody else to turn to. And I wouldn't blame you, though, if you turned your back on me right now.
Neil: No. That's not gonna happen. I'm always here for you.
Devon: I don't know if this is just something that I deserve, to lose everyone because of all the hurt that we caused you.
Neil: This is proof. There's proof right here. You're just denying it right now, Hilary!
Hilary: You could have shown me this before the ceremony. But you waited.
Neil: Just like you waited until after you and I were married so you and Devon could carry on your little sordid relationship. Payback's a bitch. Ain't it, my love?
Devon: Dad?
Neil: Hmm?
Devon: Please tell me that you forgive me for that.
Neil: Of course, I do.
Devon: Thank you. I don't know -- I don't know what makes sense anymore. I don't know if I'm being foolish to think that we're gonna find Hilary alive or if I'm just setting myself up for more heartache.
Lily: Michael, will you call me as soon as you get this? I tried talking to Devon, and it was a huge disaster. He's just really hurt because he feels like we don't trust him. And...[Sighs] Anyway, I just hope nothing else happens with this witness because this nightmare is getting worse. Bye.
Gwen: Um, will you find us a table? I want to say hi to lily.
Emma: Yeah. Sure.
Gwen: Lily?
Lily: Oh. Gwen, hey. Are you here for lunch?
Gwen: Yeah. First I just wanted to say I'm so sorry to hear about Hilary and Devon.
Lily: Why are you sorry? Because supposedly Hilary's dead and Devon killed her? I'm just so sick of the media shoving that story down everyone's throat. There's no proof that Hilary's dead. And Devon had nothing to do with it. And in fact, he actually offered a huge reward to anyone who could find her. And Cane and Michael are doing everything they can to prove that he's innocent.
Gwen: I didn't mean to imply that Hilary was dead or that Devon's responsible. I'm sorry. I just -- I saw Neil at the hospital earlier, and he was just saying that it was getting harder to hold on to hope. So I just --
Lily: He was at the hospital? Why?
Gwen: He was getting a prescription.
Lily: A prescription?
Gwen: He's been having trouble sleeping. Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it, lily. I'm sure his doctor knows his history. He wouldn't prescribe anything that Neil couldn't handle. It's okay.
Cane: Two psychics, three people who said they dreamed about Hilary, and one man who claimed he played craps with her in St. Kitts, and that is not including all of the crackpots and weirdos.
Cane: I see why you haven't answered your phone.
Michael: [Sighs] It's just what I feared. Devon's reward offer is complicating everything. It's gonna make it so much harder to find Hilary.
Cane: You know, I hate to say this. Um...
Michael: What? What is it you hate to say?
Cane: Do you think that may have been Devon's point? Maybe he posted the reward so that it would slow down the process.
Michael: Mr. Donovan.
Mr. Donovan: Mr. Baldwin. If I might have a word?
Michael: This is Mr. Donovan, the man who wants to prosecute Devon. Mr. Donovan, this is Mr. Ashby, Mr. Hamilton's brother-in-law. Anything you have to say to me you can say in front of him.
Cane: It's nice to meet you.
Mr. Donovan: You've been holding out on me after I shared with you all the evidence I gathered.
Michael: You mean the alleged witness who we spoke to earlier? He was one of hundreds who came forward to claim the reward.
Mr. Donovan: Did you hear what he had to say?
Michael: Well, he was very interested in collecting $1 million. He wasn't very interested in giving us a lot of details about what he saw. We don't give it much credence.
Mr. Donovan: So, it had nothing to do with the fact that what he saw could help prove your client is guilty of murder?
Billy: I'm a complete idiot. I got so wrapped up in this Gabe thing that I completely forgot you had a meeting with Chelsea. How did that go?
Victoria: Well, you know, it started off a little tense, but, um...I wound up getting a little nostalgic.
Billy: Oh, yeah? Good memories or bad?
Victoria: Mostly good. Since our conversation reminded me that today would have been our fifth wedding anniversary.
Billy: That's right. [Scoffs] Five years. Cannot believe I didn't remember that.
Victoria: Well, it's a little hard to keep track. I mean, we've had more than a few weddings.
Billy: [Laughs] Yeah.
Victoria: There was the one in Jamaica, the first one.
Billy: I, uh, I've been trying to forget that one. I think I still have the hangover.
Victoria: It was declared invalid anyway. So, compared to that, I guess my wedding night spent in a jail cell is pretty good.
Billy: Well, call me old school, but I prefer a wedding without handcuffs.
Victoria: [Chuckles]
Billy: Like the one on Christmas eve where we took Kevin and Chloe's place. And, um, Delia was the flower girl. Remember how beautiful she looked? Anyway, good memories and bad, right? I guess -- I guess that's life.
Victoria: It's our life.
Billy: [Sighs] How do we celebrate that? By looking back, looking forward?
Victoria: I don't know. I guess as long as we're... as long as we're together, we can do both.
Billy: And is that what we are? Are we together?
Victoria: Well, we're not apart anymore. Feels pretty good.
Billy: [Sighs] Yeah, it does. It feels right. And, you know, Hannah's got to have the kids for what? At least -- at least another hour?
Victoria: [Chuckles]
Ashley: My door's always open, Jack. Goodbye.
Jack: Except when I'm trying to do something to help the company.
Ashley: Like hiring somebody I can barely tolerate and have absolutely no use for?
Jack: I still think you're being shortsighted on the Gabe thing. Remember, "the enemy of my enemy is my friend," right?
Ashley: [Chuckles] Yeah. I think I read that in a fortune cookie once.
Jack: For the record, I will not keep pushing you to reinstate Gabe.
Ashley: Thank you.
Jack: I will be bringing him on, though, as a special consultant for this paragon threat. He will answer directly to me.
Ashley: You are so incredibly passive-aggressive.
Jack: Wait a minute. I am not saying one thing and doing another. I am being totally above board here. Besides being chair of the board, I also have a majority voting and financial stake in this company.
Ashley: Okay. It's a waste of time and money.
Jack: Well, it's a waste of my time and money. It doesn't keep you from running jabot! Besides, you're not gonna tell me who you suspect. I have to do some digging of my own.
Ashley: Whatever! Happy shoveling, Jack. Hey, Joe, it's Ashley. Yeah, hi. It was great running into you, too, earlier. Got my mind going all sorts of interesting directions. Oh, really? Well, in that case, um, what are you doing tomorrow? Sure, I'd love to have dinner with you, Joe. I'll see you then. Bye.
Chelsea: I can't help envying Billy and Victoria. Despite everything the world's thrown at them, they've -- they've found their way back to one another.
Adam: Well, you know, I mean, we've done that, too, right? We've done that with flying colors, and we -- we've had a whole hell of a lot more to endure than they have.
Chelsea: Yeah, but... we can only be ourselves behind closed doors. Nowhere else. I just wish we could be Mr. And Mrs. Adam Newman always for the world to see. Let's forget it. It's never gonna happen.
Adam: Hold on a second. Don't -- don't say it's never gonna happen. Anything's possible, okay? Never say never. Here comes Jack.
Chelsea: Hey.
Adam: So, uh, what's the verdict?
Jack: You're hired.
Adam: I'm hired! See? What'd I tell you?
Chelsea: Congratulations.
Adam: That's great. So -- so, um, man, I don't know what to say. How do I -- how do I repay you?
Jack: Do your job and try not to irritate the rest of my family.
Adam: Think I can manage that for a while.
Jack: Good. I already have your first assignment.
Lily: Cane?
Cane: Hey, sweetheart. Hi.
Lily: Thank God it's you.
Cane: What -- what's wrong? You okay?
Lily: Oh, besides everything?
Cane: Yeah, Michael told me about your message. Sounds like you're having a pretty lousy day, huh?
Lily: Yeah, and you want to hear the best part? Dad went to a doctor for sleeping pills. Just what a stressed-out alcoholic needs, right?
Cane: Well, uh, I'm sure if he went to his own physician, he wouldn't give him anything habit-forming, right?
Lily: I don't even know who he went to. I heard the information secondhand. I'm just -- [Sighs] I'm just really scared of where this could lead to.
Cane: All right, listen, why don't you just go and talk to him? He's always been really up front with you about his problems. And who knows? Maybe the doctor gave him something herbal and you're getting worked up over nothing.
Lily: You're right. I do tend to do that. Anyway, just give me some good news. What happened with the witness? Did you guys disprove his story?
Cane: Well... we tried to. Um... and, uh, now...
Lily: Now what?
Cane: Well, um... Michael and I are kind of, uh... in jail.
Neil: I realize that things might be rough for you right now, but Michael is the man. If anyone can clear your name, it's him. And then there's Cane, right? He's determined. He's on a mission to find Hilary.
Devon: Dad, the longer this investigation goes, the more they're gonna think that I did something to Hilary. But that doesn't matter 'cause if she is gone, put me behind bars 'cause I don't have anything else to live for without her.
Neil: No. No. Don't you dare say that, okay? I know your whole world is crumbling around you. Everyone's against you. But don't get it twisted. You still have so many things to live for.
Devon: Yeah, you're right about that. I sure have one thing to live for -- it's find whoever's responsible for hurting Hilary and making him pay with his damn life.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Lily: Cane and Michael were arrested in Virgin Gorda.
Cane: We haven't even been back a week, and you're already lying to me.
Phyllis: Didn't think I'd run into anyone out here.
Ian: Neither did I. (Vo) new tidy cats lightweight with glade.
