Episode # 10703 ~ Victor asks Nick to step up for the family; Ashley receives disturbing news; the deck chairs are rearranged at Newman-Abbott.

Provided By Suzanne

Adam: I finally won, Dad.

Billy: Hmm. We next?

Adam: What?

Billy: Planning on shoving all of us in a drawer now that you're head of the company?

Adam: I'll tell you what -- that all depends, Billy, you know? Showing up on time certainly makes you a more desirable employee -- something you might want to forward to, uh -- to Abby and Victoria.

Billy: Yeah, well, they're on their way.

Ashley: Phyllis isn't. Do you have a problem with that?

Adam: No, Phyllis is with jack. He needs her right now.

Ashley: How nice of you.

Neil: Hey. What's this meeting all about?

Adam: Right. [Snaps] So, I'm sure you've all become aware that I've been named CEO of Newman-Abbott, right?

Ashley: Interim CEO, actually.

Adam: Well, with both jack and Victor out of commission indefinitely, it might be less temporary than we, uh -- than we originally thought. Which is why I've decided to become proactive.

Chelsea: Gabe, what are you talking about?

Billy: Yeah, I don't think I really want to know.

Adam: What I'm talking about is that there are gonna be some major shake-ups around here.

Victoria: Michael should be here any minute. Dad hired him as his attorney, and he wants to bring us up to date on the case.

Nick: And you thought you'd do that at my bar? That's pretty smooth.

Victoria: Well, this isn't a meeting that everyone should know about. And it's quiet here... this time of day.

Michael: Good morning. I'm sorry I'm late.

Abby: So, tell us how you're gonna get dad off.

Michael: Oh, good to see you, too, Abby.

Nick: Michael's good, but I don't know how even he can get off his, uh...client who admits he put a bullet in his lifelong enemy.

Michael: That's the spirit, nick.

Victoria: It was self-defense. Dad saw jack reach for a gun.

Nick: There was no gun found at the scene.

Victoria: He would not kill anyone in cold blood, nick. You know that.

Abby: You have to convince a jury of that, Michael.

Michael: I'll try. I'll do my best.

Nick: And if that's not good enough?

Michael: Then your father will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Nikki: At first, you told me that jack was just fine when you left him in the park. Then you said, no, that was a lie, that you shot him.

Victor: In self-defense, yes.

Nikki: And you expect me to believe that?

Dylan: Hey, Paul. What can I get you? A coffee, cappuccino?

Paul: I'm not here for coffee.

Dylan: Okay. What can I do for you, then?

Paul: You want to give me one good reason why I shouldn't arrest you right now?

Lily: Thank you so much. Okay.

Avery: Lily.

Lily: Hey, Avery. I'm glad you're he-- what happened to your face?

Avery: No, it's -- it's nothing. It's fine.

Lily: [Sighs] Okay. Well, um, I'm glad you came here. I really wanted to say thank you for helping me pull it together after what happened with me and Joe.

Avery: Well, I just listened. That's all.

Lily: No. You did a lot more than that, and I'm -- I'm very grateful.

Avery: You might not be when I tell you what I have to say.

Lily: You didn't tell anyone about Joe and me, did you?

Avery: Lily, I had to give a report to the police. I'm sorry. I didn't have choice. But in the course of my conversation with Paul, it came up that you and Joe slept together.

Lily: Paul knows that I -- that I cheated on Cane? Why would you tell him that?

Joe: Sharon.

Sharon: [Gasps] Stay back. I mean it. One more step and you're getting a face full of mace.

Nikki: I've had enough of these lies.

Victor: All right. Walk out the door.

Nikki: I want to believe you.

Victor: Listen to me. The jack Abbott who merged our companies, Newman with Jabot, is not the jack Abbott we all know, all right? He wanted to threaten my family. He wanted to kill me.

Nikki: Victor, he has always been a threat, according to you.

Victor: This is different. I'm telling you --

Nikki: Yes, it's different because you shot him.

Victor: To protect my family.

Nikki: Oh, my god. You always use that excuse. You have gone too far this time.

Victor: Listen to me. I did what I had to do. And you, by the way, did not have to tell Paul Williams that I lied about my alibi. I would never do that to you. I will protect you to the grave.

Nikki: And send jack along to his, too, huh?

Victor: What the hell. If I have to, yes.

Billy: Yeah, I don't think that making major changes right now is such a good idea.

Chelsea: Hold on. Let's hear Gabe out.

Neil: Billy's right. We need to maintain an appearance of stability.

Adam: Yes, well, I feel like stability might have gone out the window when one of the Newman-Abbott titans tried to kill the other one.

Ashley: A corporate shake-up on top of that is not good for brand loyalty. Besides, you don't have the authority to make those kind of unilateral decisions.

Adam: Actually, uh, Victor was supposed to forward all of you a copy of this.

Neil: What's this?

Adam: It's all in there.

Neil: Yeah? Well, before you start rearranging the furniture, as CFO., I think we have a few things to discuss first, starting with the computer glitch that got Victor arrested for embezzlement.

Adam: That was unfortunate.

Neil: Yeah, and unresolved. That missing money is still missing.

Adam: All right. Listen. Neil, I appreciate your diligence. Really, I do. You're a -- you're a go-getter. But you no longer need to concern yourself with financial matters.

Neil: [Chuckles] A go-getter, hmm? You do know what "f" stands for in CFO., Don't you?

Adam: I do. Yes. And I will be taking over all three letters.

Billy: Wait, wait.

You are?

Adam: Yeah, I'll be assuming all CFO. Responsibilities from here on out. Neil, I don't want you to worry about a thing. I've already contacted H.R. I made a phone call. We're gonna hook you up with a new title, new responsibilities. You're all set, okay?

Neil: Victor didn't think it was effective or efficient to oversee the executive and fiscal matters at Newman-Abbott. And now, all of a sudden, you, my man, think you can?

Adam: Well, you know, the things is, uh, the old man likes to put on the gloves, but he can't go 10 rounds anymore, [Chuckling] You know?

Billy: I'd like to see you step in the ring with him. In fact, I'd pay to see it.

Adam: Really? Well, the thing is about that is he's in handcuffs right now, so, uh, I suggest you probably just hold on to your money. From here on out, I'll be running the ship, okay?

Neil: Right to the bottom of the sea. I ain't waiting around for a life preserver to save my ass. I quit.

Michael: Even if Gabriel is lying about what he witnessed in the park...

Abby: He is.

Michael: ...The only way we can prove it is with surveillance footage or if another witness comes forward.

Victoria: You could call on me to testify.

Nick: You?

Victoria: Dad admitted to me that he shot jack.

Nick: What? When?

Victoria: After the shooting.

Nick: You gave dad an alibi?

Victoria: Yeah, I had to.

Nick: You had to lie to the police?

Abby: He's our father, nick. Victoria was trying to protect him.

Victoria: And I still am. Call me to testify. I'll tell the jury what dad told me.

Michael: [Chuckles] You lied to the police. Christine will have no trouble proving that you're an unreliable witness.

Abby: We have to prove that he acted in self-defense. There's got to be a way.

Michael: Victor said jack threatened his family. That is the angle I will work on. I will be in touch.

Victoria: Okay, listen, you have known Gabriel since boarding school. You must be able to think of something that we could use to discredit him.

Nick: You mean find some loophole for dad to slip through?

Victoria: Nicholas, I know you and dad haven't always gotten along, but he really needs us right now, all of us.

Nick: Cannot condone what he did.

Victoria: I'm not asking you to do that. But don't turn your back on him.

Nick: He shot jack. How can you stand by him, knowing that?

Victoria: I won't turn my back on him.

Nick: I'm not gonna give him a free pass 'cause he shot an unarmed man.

Victoria: Look, I know you don't want anything to do with the business of preserving the Newman legacy, all right, but think about how many times dad has been there for you and stood by you. You should be there for him right now. You owe him at least that.

Nick: I don't have to ask whose side you're on.

Abby: Why do there have to be sides? Why can't we just support dad?

Nick: Even if he's guilty?

Abby: I know that dad wouldn't kill uncle jack or -- or even try to. I think deep down in your heart, you know that, too.

Dylan: Joe came crying to you, huh?

Paul: What? You didn't think he would?

Dylan: Okay, so, are you gonna arrest me for interrogating him?

Paul: You tied him up! You tried to beat a confession out of him!

Dylan: Except I didn't get the confession.

Paul: What is the matter with you?! What the hell were you thinking?!

Dylan: That son of a bitch raped Avery, Paul!

Paul: So, you think by committing a crime on your own, it's gonna prove that?

Dylan: Come on, man.

Paul: That's nonsense. Don't "come on" me. Even if you had got a confession out of that guy, it never would have held up in court. You know that. Under those conditions? You have got to stop pulling crap like this. You're making matters worse.

Dylan: Yeah, well, I can't sit back and do nothing. Somebody's got to do something!

Paul: So, you don't think we're trying?

Dylan: Meanwhile, Joe's running around free out there. He could attack Avery again.

Joe: Look, I'm not gonna hurt you.

Sharon: Isn't that what you said to Avery before you assaulted her?

Joe: Look, I'm sorry, and I feel awful for what happened to Avery. I assure you I did not attack her, regardless of what she told you.

Sharon: Dylan told me about the rape and about the restraining order Avery had against you, and even that didn't stop you.

Joe: I didn't break the restraining order. Did he mention that?

Sharon: What are you talking about?

Joe: Yeah, Dylan came home a little late the other night, didn't he? Yeah, did he tell you he had me tied up, trying to beat a confession out of me?

Sharon: I may not approve of Dylan's tactics, but I do understand why he wanted to protect Avery from you.

Joe: That's exactly what Avery wants. Avery's not the only victim here, Sharon. You and I are. She wants revenge on me and to get Dylan away from you.

Lily: I don't believe this.

Avery: Lily, let me explain.

Lily: Who did you tell, just Paul, or does the whole department know?

Avery: Will you just listen to me?

Lily: Cane and I just got our marriage back on track, and now it's gonna be blown apart. How could you do this? You swore that you wouldn't tell anyone.

Avery: I didn't have a choice.

Lily: What on earth could possibly compel you to share something so private?

Avery: I was raped.

Lily: What?

Avery: I was raped. Joe raped me.

Lily: Wh-what happened?

Avery: I asked him to meet me in the park.

Lily: Wait, I-I don't understand. You had a restraining order against him.

Avery: Yes, well, I went to confront him about what he was doing to your marriage. And I told him to stay away from you, and then I left. But he followed me home, and he caught up with me in the alley and... I didn't see his face, but I know it was Joe.

Lily: Avery, I'm so sorry. I didn't even know Joe was capable of that. God, I hate myself even more for sleeping with him.

Avery: No. Lily, don't say that. He's the one you should hate.

Sharon: Accusing you of rape is an elaborate plan by Avery to break up Dylan and me? That is so far-fetched, Joe.

Joe: Not as far-fetched as you may think.

Sharon: Avery has spent her life defending the innocent. She's not going to accuse you of a crime that she knows you didn't commit.

Joe: Look, I didn't want to believe it, either. I kept trying to tell myself that she was mistaken, that she was attacked by someone else and then blamed me.

Sharon: I suppose that's possible.

Joe: But the more I thought about it, the -- the more I thought it wasn't the case. Avery snapped. She's crossed a line that no one thought that she could, including herself.

Ashley: No, Neil.

Neil: Ashley, I can't work here under these conditions.

Ashley: We can't afford to lose any more top executives.

Adam: Preaching to the choir. I totally agree with you. That's why I offered to keep Neil here at -- at Newman-Abbott, offer you a new position.

Neil: Any position that you offer me is a demotion.

Adam: Well, that depends on how you choose to look at it, Neil.

Neil: Well, this is the way I choose to look at it. See, I earned my master's in business from Stanford. I've been working for Newman and Jabot probably longer than you've been alive. And not once ever, never have I ever blackmailed anyone to get a job.

Adam: [Sighs] You got to be careful, all right? Throwing around those accusations makes me question your loyalty, Neil. It really does. I'm pretty sure jack would feel the same way.

Billy: Oh, please. You have no idea how jack would feel.

Ashley: Neil is jack's friend.

Adam: And I'm jack's son.

Neil: Okay. Don't waste your breath. Um, Gabe, you are a clown running a three-ring circus. I'm not working for you. And the three of you -- I suggest you do the same.

[Door opens]

Adam: The elevator's at the end of the -- he knows where it is. He knows where it is. Anybody want to follow him out the, uh -- out the door?

Billy: No, Gabe. We're not -- we're not going anywhere.

Adam: Good. Glad to hear it. Then we're all on the same page.

Billy: [Scoffs] No, we're not on the same page. Ash and I -- the only reason we're sticking around is to make sure that you don't destroy the Abbott legacy.

Adam: I'm doing this for jack, Billy.

Billy: If you gave a damn about our brother, you would have told the cops from the start that Victor shot him, but you didn't do that, did you? No. You hung on to the information, didn't you? So you could use it and get control of this company.

Chelsea: Gabe's looking out for his father's best interests.

Billy: His fa-- I'm still not convinced that this jackass is even an Abbott. Until I have a DNA test that proves otherwise --

Ashley: We have it.

Billy: We have what?

Ashley: Jack ran the test before the shooting.

Billy: You've got to be kidding me.

Ashley: Nope. This...SOB. Is jack's son.

Adam: So, what are you gonna do now? You gonna welcome me to the family, Billy?

Victor: You know damn well I never wanted jack Abbott dead, for heaven's sake.

Nikki: How did you let things get so out of hand?

Victor: I didn't want things to happen like that, all right? But stuff began to escalate. All I could think of was protecting my family.

Nikki: Well, you had to kill jack to do that?

Victor: There are things you don't know.

Nikki: Yes. That is correct. I don't know because you won't tell me. You just tell me lie after lie and keep pushing me away.

Victor: I'm trying to protect you.

Nikki: This is the problem. You wonder why I keep falling off the wagon? This is why. Because you say you will change but you don't change. You hang on to the same grudges, the same vendettas, and you won't tell me anything.

Victor: That is not why you fell off the damn wagon!

Nikki: If you can't let it go, I'm gonna let it go.

Victor: Okay.

Nikki: Okay.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: 'Cause I can't do this anymore.

Victor: Hey. Your choice. Walk out that door.

[Door slams]

Paul: Plain and simple, you are not helping.

Dylan: [Sighs]

Paul: This is a tough case. We can use all the help we can get.

Dylan: What do you mean you need help?

Paul: Okay. We have run in to some very significant obstacles. One, Avery cannot give us a positive I.D. Two, we cannot find a witness. Three, we can't even find anyone that heard anything in that alley that night.

Dylan: She said that he covered her mouth so she couldn't scream. I don't know. Maybe somebody saw something, heard something, but they don't want to get involved.

Paul: Maybe. We'll check it out.

Dylan: Okay, what about surveillance video?

Paul: Nothing yet. We will widen our search.

Dylan: [Sighs]

Paul: We are checking out registered sex offenders. We're checking out their alibis.

Dylan: Okay, well, what about Joe? Does he have an alibi?

Paul: Dylan, we cannot narrow and limit this investigation to just Joe Clark.

Dylan: Avery said it was him.

Paul: Well, you know what? The test results could not confirm that.

Dylan: You got the test results back?

Paul: Nothing that came back from the lab is going to help us arrest Joe. In fact, there is not enough physical evidence to tie any suspect to this case. There is no skin, there is no hair, there are no bodily fluids. Whoever this guy is didn't leave a trace.

Dylan: "This guy" -- you keep saying that like it's a random person. It was Joe.

Paul: Okay. If it turns out to be Joe, I still have to prove it, so you need to stay out of this and let me do my job.

Lily: Look, if you want me to help you find someone to talk to about this, someone professional --

Avery: No, no. I-I want to talk about you.

Lily: What about me?

Avery: I don't want you to worry about your night with Joe becoming public knowledge. Paul promised me that the information would be kept confidential.

Lily: I really hope it is.

Michael: I'm working on getting you released on bail. It might help if you produce the weapon used in the crime.

Victor: You sure that's a wise decision?

Michael: It could be seen as a show of good faith.

Victor: [Sighs] All right. It's in the stables. There's a compartment in the floor underneath the hay bales next to Jupiter's stall. That's where you'll find the gun.

Michael: Okay. I'll go get it now.

Victor: Thank you for taking my case.

Michael: I wish we were being reunited under better circumstances, but you know I'll do my best for you.

Victor: I thank you.

Michael: [Chuckles] Hey, nick.

Nick: Hey, mike.

Victor: What are you doing here?

Nick: I came to ask you a question. And I wanted to see the look in your eye when I did.

Victor: All right. Ask your question.

Nick: How could you shoot jack?

Adam: Ladies, come on in. Glad you could join us. Just in the nick of time.

Victoria: Did we miss the coronation?

Ashley: Just Gabe appointing himself CFO. Of Newman-Abbott.

Abby: What about Neil?

Chelsea: Neil quit.

Billy: Yeah, well, that's one way of putting it. Another is that Gabe here tried to demote him and Neil told him where he could shove it.

Abby: Wait, Neil was one of the few employees that was familiar with both Newman and Jabot.

Adam: Yeah, no. I agree with you. And I'm on the same page, but, uh, I've come up with a new chain of command. Abby, I think you're gonna like it.

Billy: I'm so excited. I can't wait to hear this.

Adam: Well, I will be at the top, of course.

Victoria: Well, then it'll be a chain formed by blackmail and lies.

Adam: Victoria, if you don't like the way I'm running things here, you're more than welcome to follow Neil out the door.

Victoria: And leave you to run my father's company? No, I don't think so.

Adam: Good. Then you'll stay. We'll start with you. You'll be filling a new position here at Newman-Abbott.

Victoria: You're replacing me as COO.?

Adam: That's a good idea. Let's do that. Yes, that's right.

Victoria: You know, you may be able to throw Neil out of here, but I'm a Newman. And I'm gonna stay and make sure my family's voice is heard.

Adam: I like where your head's at, but I've already thought of that. The person I've chosen to replace you is also a Newman. You guys want to join me in welcoming our new COO? Shift your eyes over to the left. Abby Newman, COO. [Claps] Congratulations.

Sharon: Say what you have to say, but keep your distance.

Joe: I'm worried about Avery.

Sharon: You're worried about the woman who's accusing you of rape?

Joe: Look, I've known her for a long time. She's a smart, strong woman, steady as a rock, but for her to accuse me of a crime I didn't commit, it -- Sharon, she's desperate.

Sharon: I think you're desperate.

Joe: This isn't about getting revenge on me. She could do that in a million ways. She wants Dylan back.

Sharon: She would never go to these lengths to get him.

Joe: No? Think about it. When she claimed that I was stalking her, who did she call every time I supposedly showed up?

Sharon: Dylan.

Joe: And then, when he told her to stop calling him, to call the cops, she took it to the next level and accused me of rape.

Sharon: I don't believe you. I think you're lying, and I have to go. Stay back.

Joe: Just do me a favor. Talk to Dylan. If there's anyone who can see through her lies, he can. I just hope he has enough integrity to not let her put an innocent man in prison.

Ashley: You can't possibly be serious.

Adam: About making your daughter the boss? I wouldn't kid about something like that.

Ashley: I'm not speaking for Abby, but I'm sure that you probably find this slightly problematic.

Adam: Is it gonna make things uncomfortable for you or...?

Billy: Oh, you knew damn well it was gonna make things uncomfortable for everyone, including Abby.

Adam: Why would a promotion make Abby uncomfortable? I don't understand.

Abby: I think what they're too polite to say is that I'm not qualified for this position.

Adam: Not qualified? You have the only qualification that's necessary. You're a Newman and you're an Abbott, right? So you won't favor one family over the other 'cause you're loyal to both.

Abby: That's true.

Adam: It's the only way to see it, right? I think jack would agree.

Victoria: Yeah, because jack's in a coma. Anyone who's conscious can see how ridiculous this idea of Abby being COO. Is.

Adam: Victoria, considering the fact that you gave Victor a fake alibi for the night of the shooting, I don't think he would trust you to rearrange the paperclip drawer.

Billy: You know, maybe it's time I rearrange a few things around here, huh?

Chelsea: Okay, everybody needs to calm down, okay? If we want this company to succeed, we have to learn to work together.

Victoria: We don't have a prayer of being successful as long as Gabe insists that Abby take a job that she doesn't want to take.

Abby: Maybe I do want it.

Victor: When I pulled that trigger, it was in self-defense.

Nick: I wish I could take your word at face value like Vick always seems able to.

Victor: Why would I want jack Abbott dead?

Nick: You've spent your whole life hating him.

Victor: Son, I saved his life when your underground bar collapsed. Why the hell would I want to shoot him?

Nick: I don't know, dad, but you never tell me what's going on until it's too late.

Victor: I'm telling you, from the bottom of my heart, it may be too late for all of us.

Nick: What do you mean?

Victor: I need your help.

Nick: Me?

Victor: Yeah, you. I know you don't give a damn about this business. But we may lose this business. I know you care about your family. And we need to keep this business in our family, so I'm coming to you for help.

Nick: What do you need me to do?

Victor: I need you to come back to work and keep an eye on things.

Nikki: Hey, Neil. Come on in.

Neil: Sorry, I-I should have called you first, you know? Um, it's been a really rough morning, and, Nikki, I could use a friend.

Nikki: Well, sure. Um, I can try.

Neil: We've been there for each other lately, and I thought that I could come and tell you anything that's happening.

Nikki: Sure. Of course you can. I haven't done a good job of handling my problems today, but I'm happy to help you with yours. What happened?

Neil: Well, I quit my job.

Nikki: What?! Why? You're such a staple at Newman-Abbott. I know both jack and Victor want you there.

Neil: Well, Gabe Bingham sure didn't. He's in charge now.

Nikki: Uh...what's he in charge of?

Neil: Oh, he's in charge of the company because Victor gave him the CEO Chair.

Nikki: Oh, yeah. Well, is there anything I can get you?

Neil: Um... look at me. Oh, Nikki. You're drunk, aren't you?

Nikki: I am not drunk. I am relaxed.

Avery: I was raped. Joe raped me.

Joe: Hey, lily.

Lily: You disgust me.

Joe: Oh, so, you've been speaking to Avery, I see.

Lily: Did you really think she wouldn't tell me?

Joe: Well, I was hoping that she'd stop spreading lies.

Lily: Well, then why would she accuse you of something you didn't do?

Joe: I don't know. You'd have to ask her.

Lily: No one is gonna take your word over hers.

Joe: And that's what she's hoping.

Lily: And just so you know, Avery's not the only person who's affected by this.

Joe: Yeah, my life has been turned upside down.

Lily: Well, good. You deserve it. But my family doesn't.

Joe: Your -- your family? What -- what does your family have to do with this?

Lily: Avery told Paul everything that happened that night. Which means that he knows that we slept together.

Joe: And you're worried that I'm gonna tell Cane.

Lily: Well, are you?

Avery: Hey. I got your message. Is everything okay?

Dylan: Uh, Paul -- Paul came to see me.

Avery: About my case?

Dylan: Yeah. He's -- he's having a tough time building one.

Avery: [Sighs] Because I didn't see Joe's face. But there's physical evidence, and once the lab results come in... what? What -- what did Paul say?

Dylan: He said the lab was having difficulty tying anything to Joe. The samples were inconclusive, so far.

Avery: Joe's gonna get away with this.

Victoria: Are you out of your mind?

Abby: Meaning you think it's crazy for me to consider Gabe's offer.

Victoria: Abby, I love you, okay? And I think you're really...good at marketing. But you can't be serious about taking my job.

Abby: You know what? I-I have to think about what I'm gonna do.

Adam: Well, don't take too long.

Abby: I have to go.

Victoria: Abby!

Ashley: I don't think you're gonna be happy until you destroy everything.

Adam: [Sighs]

Victoria: You know, Abby may have a foot in both families, but she's a Newman. And you don't understand what that means.

Adam: Victoria, I know more about your family than you think.

Victoria: Good, then you understand that Newman enterprises means more to us than anything. So I wouldn't get too comfortable behind that desk if I were you, because one of us will be back in charge very soon.

Billy: Well, I can't wait to see what you have in store for me.

Adam: [Chuckles] Uh, you'll be remaining in the r&d department, although I am gonna need you to step it up a little bit, you know, bring me something significant. You guys haven't done much since, uh -- well, you know, I think -- I think it was since you started playing footsie with your ex-wife.

Billy: This is what you chose over me? Good luck with that. And, uh, Victoria was right. Don't get too comfy here.

Adam: Sorry about all that.

Chelsea: I don't think you're sorry. I think you enjoyed it.

Adam: What? Enjoyed it...

Chelsea: I didn't want to say anything in front of the others, but I think it was a mistake to fire Neil.

Adam: Well, you know what? Um, if Neil stayed here, he'd be poking his nose around all the books, right? It'd only be a matter of time before he found out that we were trying to frame Victor for embezzlement, so it's not good for anybody.

Chelsea: And what about, uh, blackmailing Victor to get the CEO Title? Is that true?

Adam: I may have dabbled in a little bit of blackmail. Look, it's the only way that I could keep that snake from taking control of both companies, okay? I wasn't gonna let that happen, not after what he did to jack.

Chelsea: Okay, so, uh, what are your plans for me?

Adam: My plans for you? Professionally, you mean, or...? Um, I need you to help Abby.

Chelsea: Gabe, I don't --

Adam: Just trust me on this one, okay?

Nick: That'd be a big mistake.

Neil: How much have you had to drink?

Nikki: Obviously not as much as I would like.

Neil: Give me the bottle.

Nikki: No!

Neil: Give me the bottle.

Nikki: I need this!

Neil: Nikki, you really don't need it.

Nikki: I do need it. And let me tell you why. I can tell you a lot of reasons why. My son Nicholas is about to have a baby with a woman he just met. And Dylan's having a baby with a woman I wish we had never met. And Victoria got caught lying to the police about her father, who finally admitted that he shot jack, okay? So, under those circumstances, I think I have shown quite a lot of restraint.

Neil: Okay. I-I do feel sorry for you, but the answers do not lie in that bottle of alcohol.

Nikki: Neil... let me tell you a little secret. There are no answers. There are no answers anywhere.

Neil: [Sighs]

Nikki: It's just magic. That's all. It's magic. This is magic. Look. You take a sip. Oh! And all your problems go away. That simple.

Neil: Give me the bottle.

Nikki:, No, Neil! Stop!

Neil: Give me the bottle, Nikki.

Nikki: Oh, I'm dizzy. I'm dizzy. I'm so...

Neil: Nikki. Nikki. Hey.

Ashley: Abby. Abby, just wait a second, please. Now, granted, Victoria and I don't agree on much, but when it comes to this offer that Gabe's made you, she's right. You accepting it would be a huge mistake.

Abby: Of course you think that. You see me as a dumb kid, the naked heiress. To you, I'm a joke, not a power player.

Ashley: That's not true.

Abby: Oh, please. You, Billy, Victoria, even uncle jack -- you think all I can do is choose lipstick colors. Well, now's my chance to prove that I can do more.

Ashley: Honey, you admit yourself you don't have any experience at all when it comes to running a huge corporation like Newman-Abbott.

Abby: Oh, maybe not now, but once I learn the ropes, I will be a force to be reckoned with. And maybe this time, it'll be my chance to save my family, both of them.

Joe: Look, I promised I wouldn't say a word to Cane, and I won't.

Lily: You better keep your word.

Joe: Yeah, but there's no guarantee. Avery already went to the cops, so this could get out.

Lily: No. She assured me that it wouldn't.

Joe: Okay, look, I know you don't trust me, but don't put your life in Avery's hands. You'll regret it.

Dylan: Don't say that. More evidence can come in. We can find a witness. We can find surveillance footage.

Avery: No, no. I've seen this before. Investigations need momentum. Cops get excited about the pieces falling into place for them. They -- they like building a case against a suspect, and without that momentum, crimes go unsolved.

Dylan: Paul's not gonna let that happen.

Avery: He already has. I gave him a name. I pointed him in the right direction.

Dylan: I know, I know, but you couldn't be positive that it was Joe. All they need is a little more evidence, one more piece of the puzzle, and they're gonna bring him in. I'm sure of that.

Avery: Okay, well, I'm sure that he covered my mouth. [Voice breaking] I'm sure he pulled me down and he raped me and I fought as hard as I could and I couldn't get him off me. [Crying] [Sniffles]

Victoria: My dad did not shoot jack in cold blood.

Billy: Let's just focus on what we agree on. Gabriel is poison to both of our families.

Victoria: Somebody has to stop him.

Billy: How about us?

Victoria: Us? Meaning you and me?

Billy: Yeah. Let's work together, put our issues aside, and bring him down. If we do that, he doesn't stand a chance.

Victoria: We might be the only hope our families have.

Neil: Nikki. Nikki, can you hear me? Hi, um, I need an ambulance right away at the Genoa city athletic club. It's Suite 310. A friend of mine has passed out. I don't know. She might have alcohol poisoning. I think she might have stopped breathing. Nikki! Nikki! Come here. Nikki, hang on. Hey.

Paul: Ballistics is running a test on the weapon. I'm gonna make sure you get a report.

Michael: Thank you, Paul.

Paul: Have you told Victor about the other news?

Michael: Mm. I thought I'd let you do that.

Paul: Chris is ready to offer you a deal.

Michael: It's a good one, Victor.

Victor: And guess what -- I'm not interested, okay?

Michael: You haven't heard the terms yet.

Victor: I shot that gun in self-defense, and you will help me prove it.

Chelsea: I will leave you two to talk.

Adam: Okay.

Nick: I'm gonna shred your story.

Adam: I'm curious to know how you're gonna do that considering forensics backs up my account of what happened the night of the shooting.

Nick: It's a lie. You want revenge, and you're willing to send an innocent man to prison to get it.

Adam: Innocent? Innocent man? [Chuckling] Victor Newman is a lot of things. Innocent isn't one of them.

Nick: What is this irrational hatred you have for my father? You don't even know him. See, I used to think it was 'cause you blamed my dad for your dad's death, but... it's deeper than that, isn't it?

Adam: You have the nerve to stand there right now and act like your dad's the victim? Jack's laying in a hospital bed right now, fighting for his life, and your dad's the one that put him there!

Nick: He shot jack in self-defense.

Adam: He willingly hurt the man! And I'm gonna make sure he pays for it.

Nick: Well, you're gonna have to go through me to do that.

Adam: Really? This is unbelievable. It's unbelievable, nick. It finally happened, didn't it? Hmm? Your whole life, Victor's been trying to work you into the Newman mold, right, just... shoving it down your throat. You've finally become the one thing that you hate... your father.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Adam: When you pull through, and you will, you're gonna need to back me up, okay?

Kyle: The hell he is.

Sharon: I couldn't imagine a better father for my child.

Avery: Your child?

Lily: I don't think you're gonna want to go on a vacation with me when I tell you.
