Episode # 10541 ~ Nick surprises his family, while Austin learns about Summer's past.
Provided By Suzanne
Victor: Nicholas. You're the first one here. I'm so glad you came. It wouldn't be a Newman-family celebration without you.
Nick: I'm not here for the party. I just came to say goodbye.
Victor: You what?
Phyllis: Please, come in. Come in. Let me take your coats.
Summer: Thank you.
Phyllis: Oh, I'm so glad you made it.
Summer: Thanks.
Phyllis: The others will be here soon.
Jack: Others? Hi. Who else is gonna be here?
Phyllis: I thought it would be a great idea to make an announcement about our engagement to our friends and family tonight.
Jack: No, Phyllis. That is not a good idea.
Adam: Come on. [Sighs] [Grunts] [Breathing shakily] [Grunts, groans]
Sage: What are you doing? You need to take it slow.
Adam: I can't take it slow. I need to leave.
Constance: Leave? What are you talking about?
Chelsea: Hey. You're home. How are Victoria and the baby?
Billy: Uh, great. Great. Everybody's happy and healthy.
Chelsea: I'm so glad. Uh, thanks for keeping me posted when you were at the hospital.
Billy: Yeah, sure. I'm -- I'm glad you're glad.
Chelsea: Oh, yeah, of course I am. I-I know what it's like -- how excited you are to see your baby, make sure they have 10 fingers, 10 toes. I'm just grateful it all went well.
Billy: Well, it actually didn't go that simple. [Chuckles]
Chelsea: What do you mean?
Billy: I was there when Victoria went into labor, and... I helped deliver the baby.
Chelsea: You did?
Billy: Yeah, um... it was...
[Doorbell rings]
Billy: Um, I'm sorry. Ash.
Ashley: Hi. Am I interrupting?
Billy: Uh, actually, yeah, you kind of are. It's not a very good time. Do you think maybe you could come back later?
Ashley: Uh, no. And, actually, I'm not leaving until you hear what I have to say.
Billy: [Sighs]
Ashley: Hi.
Chelsea: I'm gonna go check on Johnny, give you some privacy.
Billy: You really don't have to do that.
Chelsea: It's okay. I'm gonna call my mom anyway. She's not used to having Connor overnight. Good to see you, Ashley.
Ashley: You, too.
Billy: So, what was it that couldn't wait for a more convenient time?
Ashley: Victoria had her baby.
Billy: Yeah, and I'm sorry that I didn't call. It just got really hectic around here. My mom chewed me out for not keeping you guys in the loop.
Ashley: I'm not here about that.
Billy: Well, if you're here to deliver a baby present, that's a little early. Paternity test hasn't been done yet. Stitch and I are still wondering who's gonna be the one handing out cigars.
Ashley: Billy, it'll happen. I really want to know how you're doing.
Billy: [Sighs] I'm fine.
Ashley: Billy, you are not fine. Have you forgotten who you're talking to? I could tell from the second you opened that door that you were anything but fine.
Kelly: [Sighs] [Gasps] I am so sorry. I don't know where my head's at tonight.
Lily: No, I'm sure it's with your mom. How is Maureen doing?
Kelly: Oh, she's, uh, okay. The bypass surgery went well, but, you know, she just has to get a lot of rest.
Lily: I can't believe that you're even here right now.
Kelly: Yeah, I know. Ben told me I should go home, but I was feeling a little wired, so I figured I'd get some work done.
Lily: Work can wait. You have enough going on. Now, where is Jack? Why isn't he here helping you?
Summer: Wait, you guys are engaged? For real?
Phyllis: For real. It's official.
Summer: Oh, my gosh, mom! I'm so happy.
Austin: That's awesome, Mr. Abbott. Congratulations.
Summer: The most awesome ever.
Jack: Guys...
Traci: What's going on here?
Abby: What'd we miss?
Summer: Mom and Jack are getting married.
Abby: Oh, my God! Congratulations!
Phyllis: Thank you. Both Jack and I are thrilled.
Jack: G-guys -- everybody calm down. This whole announcement is premature.
Phyllis: Why?
Jack: [Sighs]
Victor: Why would you come here tonight, of all nights, and talk as if you're leaving?
Nick: Because I am leaving.
Victor: What do you mean?
Nick: Look, dad, I just came to tell you I'm going out of town for a couple days. I need some time to myself.
Noah: Is that why you called me and asked me to look after the underground?
Nick: Yeah, it is, dude. I appreciate you doing that.
Noah: Yeah, no problem.
Victor: Yeah, there's a problem. You can't leave. You're gonna have a court date.
Nick: Look, I didn't come here for your advice.
Victor: Well, obviously, you need it.
Nick: No, I don't. The only person with a need here is you -- to control everyone's lives as usual. And I know this party tonight has nothing to do with me. This is about you celebrating the fact that Sharon got kicked to the curb. Now, I didn't come here to pick a fight with you -- I swear it. I just came to tell you I got to go out of town for a couple days. That's it. I don't have an agenda.
Victor: Really? You think I have an agenda by inviting the whole family to celebrate the fact that Summer is your daughter, part of our family now?
Nick: Or is it just another chance for you to twist the knife and prove that, once again, you were right about Sharon?
Victor: And I was right, wasn't I?
Nick: Yes, you were.
Victor: Okay.
Nick: And you were also right about me.
Billy: You calling me a liar?
Ashley: Billy, you must be so anxious, wondering if that little baby girl is yours.
Billy: Once I find out the answer, what's it gonna change? I mean, maybe I get lucky, and on visitation days, I pick up two kids instead of one.
Ashley: Oh, stop it. That is so depressing.
Billy: No, it's realistic. Ash, Victoria and I are divorced.
Ashley: It doesn't mean you love her any less.
Billy: If this is going to be one of those "you two belong together" pep talks, I have seen this movie like 15 times with other people, and I'm all out of popcorn. Just saying.
Ashley: I'm just saying... you two belong together.
Billy: Ash, look -- look around. This -- this is my home, okay? Uh, this -- this is Chelsea's, and, yeah, that's her perfume. That's the smell that I smell every night when I get into bed with her -- our bed. And, uh, this -- it's Connor's. See this lovely green stain? That's where he mashes peas into it when I'm trying to feed him. This is my life.
Ashley: And you're kidding yourself if you think you can find happiness with somebody that isn't Victoria. She is the love of your life, and you know it.
Billy: And you are quoting the script verbatim.
Ashley: And if I'm saying things that other people in your life are saying that love you, maybe you should start listening to what we're telling you instead of being so glib. Look, I came by to pick you up to bring you to Jack's for whatever surprise Phyllis is planning, but I think it's kind of pointless 'cause you're gonna end up sitting next to somebody that isn't Victoria, and you're gonna be wishing that she was. And you know very well that if that little girl ends up not being yours, you're not gonna love Victoria any less. And you're still gonna wake up smelling Chelsea's perfume and kicking yourself, Billy. Come on.
Billy: Thanks, ash. [Sighs]
Kelly: Oh, no, Jack came by the hospital to be with me, but, um, mom was just waking up, and I wanted to see her, so he and I didn't really get a chance to talk.
Lily: Well, why didn't he wait for you?
Kelly: I could tell he was preoccupied.
Lily: Any idea why?
Kelly: Uh, not really. Um, although he did tell Phyllis that we'd been dating.
Lily: Dating, really? That's what he calls asking you to move in with him?
Kelly: Lily, be fair. This isn't easy for Jack either.
Lily: Come on. What about you?
Kelly: It's awkward... especially now that Victoria's had her baby.
Lily: Right, because Ben or Billy could be the father.
Kelly: Exactly, and Ben really loves Victoria, so he's hoping that this little girl is his.
Lily: Well, yeah, so does Billy. So I could see why that would be awkward for Jack and why he would be distracted...unless there's another reason why.
Jack: I just think we ought to delay the announcement.
Phyllis: And I'll ask again. Honey, what's holding us up?
Jack: We haven't had time to enjoy it for ourselves, to revel in our engagement. I want some time with my fiancée before the rest of the world horns in on it.
Phyllis: Well, that is very sweet, but we're only announcing it to our immediate family. Now, I got some killer champagne, some sparkling cider, and I have some wonderful hors d'oeuvres in the oven. Don't worry. I didn't make them. [Chuckles]
Summer: Mom, please don't kill me, but Austin and I can't stay.
Abby: Uh, neither can I, unfortunately.
Phyllis: How come?
Abby: Dad invited us to dinner.
Phyllis: Oh. Okay. Why are we upstaged by him? What's that about?
Summer: It's a Newman family thing.
Jack: Of course.
Summer: I'm sorry, Jack. I-I shouldn't have even said...
Abby: Um, thanks to Sharon, you know, nick's whole life has blown up, so dad really wants us to rally around him.
Austin: If we could only be in two places at once.
Summer: No, I hate this.
Jack: No, no, don't. Don't. Of course you want to be there for your dad. He's your dad.
Phyllis: Okay. Why not run out there later in time for dessert? I'm sure Victor won't mind.
Abby: Are we talking about the same Victor Newman?
Phyllis: Look, you all are my family, too, and we have something wonderful to celebrate tonight. Plus, I have enough food to feed an army.
Summer: Mom, please don't do this.
Phyllis: Do what?
Summer: Pull one of your guilt trips and make me choose between families.
Jack: Summer had a previous engagement. This little shindig you put together at the last minute.
Traci: Yes, they do have a point, Phyllis.
Jack: Listen to me. Go. Enjoy yourself. There'll be plenty of time to get together later. Don't make everyone wait.
Phyllis: Hey. We will celebrate later. I did ask Jack, though, to throw me a big, splashy party to mark the occasion.
Abby: Well, then you got to let me help. I know all about "splashy."
Traci: Oh, yes, "splashy" is Abby's specialty.
Abby: Yes.
Traci: [Chuckles]
Phyllis: Very good. I want your best work.
Traci: [Chuckles]
Summer: Um, hey. Thank you for calling Kyle. He called me. Thanks for filling him in on everything. Thanks.
Noah: Oh, you and grandpa agreeing on something. This I got to hear.
Nick: Yeah, your grandpa said I needed to stop focusing on his actions and start thinking about my own choices.
Noah: So, is that why you're leaving?
Nick: Yeah, I've let my anger at what Sharon's done control me, and I got to get away -- not just from Sharon but from the anger, too. I need some time to think, especially since this involves faith.
Victor: I want you to know that I back you for suing for full custody 100%.
Noah: Wait. You what?
Victor: What I don't understand is that you'd leave now -- leave that beautiful girl with the likes of Sharon.
Nick: Dad, we share legal custody. I can't just be seen taking my daughter away from her mother when she has every right to see her. I don't like it, but I got to deal with it for now. And besides, faith is furious with me for not marrying her mother. Faith could use some space, too, right now.
Victor: So you're running away.
Nick: I'm not running away from anything. I just need to get away from people.
Noah: Dad, you know, what grandpa's saying -- it makes sense. You know, I mean, none of this would have even happened had you just redone the paternity test when Summer was born.
Adam: I need to get out of this room. You know, uh, I'd like to see some daylight. I haven't been out of this house in months.
Sage: [Chuckles] And I explained to Gabriel that he's just not strong enough yet.
Constance: And all these weights, all that physical exertion -- you shouldn't be pushing yourself so hard.
Adam: Well, that's very sweet, but I promise you I'm up for it, okay? I won't overdo.
Sage: You know, for safety's sake, I will give him a painkiller, and then I will help him to bed and you.
Constance: Get some rest.
Adam: Yes, ma'am.
[Sighs] No more painkillers. Sage, I mean it. No more sedatives. And don't try to jab me with one like you did last time.
Sage: It's for your own good. The more you rest, the sooner you'll get better.
Adam: No, I am tired of resting.
Sage: Your defenses are down. You nearly gave yourself away to Constance a few times!
Adam: Well, if you're talking about "spinach-gate" and my sudden distaste for it, I think I covered rather well.
Sage: That time. But how long are you gonna be able to keep that up, huh? I can only cover for you so much.
Adam: Yeah, and we all know you're looking out for my best interests, aren't you, hmm?
Billy: [Sighs] Hey. How's Johnny?
Chelsea: Hey. Uh, he's perfect. Um...Billy, please don't feel like you need to lie to me about Ashley's visit. I heard what she said.
Billy: She was out of line.
Chelsea: Listen, I've had similar thoughts.
Billy: Chelse --
Chelsea: Look, Billy, I understand that you still care about Victoria. I mean, how could you not? [Chuckles] We've discussed this before. You guys struggled for a long time to have a baby together. So, after what you told me today, that you were actually there for the birth of her daughter, I mean, that must have been huge for you. I'm sure it brought back everything you felt for her before it all went wrong.
Billy: You're right. It did.
Nick: I made a terrible mistake. When that first paternity test came back corrupted, I should have insisted that they run another one. But I didn't do that. I let my fear get the best of me, and I lied. And I am truly sorry for that. It's just another reason why I got to get away. I got to figure out how to start making better decisions in my life. I-I hope someday, son, that you'll be able to forgive me.
Victor: Nicholas, there's nothing to forgive, all right? It is Sharon's addled, screwed-up brain...
Noah: There's no need to insult my mother. It's not gonna accomplish anything.
Nick: Okay, I don't want to do this. I didn't come over here for this. I just came to say goodbye. You have people coming over, and I got to get out of town before it's too late. Noah, you'll hold the fort down for me at the club?
Noah: I will.
Nick: Dad, you'll keep an eye on my girls for me?
Victor: I will, son. Come here.
Nick: Thank you. I love you, dude.
Noah: I love you, too, dad.
[Door opens]
Abby: Hello. The party has arrived.
Nick: Uh, actually, I was, uh, just leaving.
Summer: Wait. Why? Where are you going?
Abby: Wait, this party is for you, nick.
Nick: Yeah, so I've been told. Um, I got to go out of town for a couple days, so you're gonna have to party without me.
Austin: Bummer.
Summer: I know. I was really looking forward to spending some time with you.
Nick: Yeah, me, too. Uh, we can do that when I get back.
Summer: Promise?
Nick: I absolutely promise.
Summer: I love you.
Abby: Bye.
Phyllis: All righty, let's talk party. Now, the event planner at the club will handle most of the details, but I'd like to have a hand in the decorating.
Traci: Well, then, if that's the case, um, there are some beautiful English roses just starting to bloom in the conservatory. I don't know. Maybe you would like to see them and see if they'll work in your floral arrangements?
Phyllis: Love it. Lead the way.
Jack: Thanks, sis.
Ashley: Floral arrangements?
Jack: Yeah, Phyllis wants to throw a big engagement party.
Ashley: Jack, you're actually gonna marry her?
Jack: Yes, I am, and I want you to be happy for me.
Ashley: Jack --
Jack: I love Phyllis, and I'm planning on spending the rest of my life with her.
Ashley: Oh, I don't doubt that.
Jack: Good.
Ashley: But since she's been gone, you've fallen in love with another woman, so how does that fit into your plan?
Billy: I shouldn't have been so --
Chelsea: Honest?
Billy: Blunt. But I don't want to lie to you. And I don't want to pretend either. That is what cratered my marriage.
Chelsea: My whole relationship with Dylan was based on a lie, so if you have something to say, Billy, you just got to say it. I won't flip out if you tell me you're feeling conflicted.
Billy: I'm glad to hear you say that, because when I was helping Vicki deliver the baby, and then it was just the three of us alone, I-I had a moment.
Chelsea: So, Ashley was right? You want to be with her?
Billy: No, Ashley is wrong. When I walked through that door, and I saw you, I was reminded of how much I love you. I want to be with you, Chelse. I mean, yeah, Vick and I -- we had kids together, and we -- we shared a life. We're always going to have that connection, just like you and Adam are always going to have a connection.
Sage: Look, I hate to put a dent in your extremely healthy ego, but my help is not about you. It's about Constance.
Adam: Right. Right.
Sage: She is the grandmother that I never had. I owe her everything. She is extremely frail, and if she ever found out that you are not really Gabriel...she couldn't handle it.
Adam: Okay, look. I understand that, and believe me, I need Gabriel as much as she does.
Sage: Okay, then you cannot just act like him. You have to be him.
Adam: I had an impulse, and I acted on it. I thought you told me that's the kind of guy Gabriel was.
Sage: Well, even if he was, he would never hurt her.
Adam: I wouldn't hurt her, sage, but I'm not gonna sit here and be her prisoner. This is my chance to start a new life, okay? And nothing's gonna prevent that.
Victor: A toast to my granddaughter Summer.
Summer: Uh, don't you think we should wait until everyone can be here -- like grandma?
Abby: Well, visiting hours aren't over for another couple hours at the hospital. I'm sure Nikki will want to stay with Victoria and the baby until then.
Victor: I assure you she won't mind if we go ahead without her, okay? And I've always considered you my granddaughter, but now we have learned that you and I are related by blood. That makes me very happy. To you, my darling.
Summer: Actually, there's a toast I would like to make, uh, to my mom and Jack. They are officially engaged.
Victor: You expect me to toast Jack Abbott?
Summer: I love Jack, Grandpa.
Victor: Mm.
Summer: He was my dad for a while. I'm not gonna let you gloat over his loss. You understand that, right?
Victor: Sweetheart, what I understand is that you are a beautiful, very compassionate, very forgiving lady, okay? Tell you what -- I'm going to get a new bottle of champagne. How's that?
Austin: Well, he seems unusually amenable.
Abby: He's trying.
Summer: Yeah, he's definitely up to something.
Noah: Oh, he was on a roll earlier. He was insulting my mom.
Summer: Too bad I couldn't be there to join in.
Noah: Hold on. Jack's off-limits, but my mom isn't? Okay, it's an illness. She wasn't responsible for her actions.
Austin: Responsible or not, she hurt my wife, and she wrecked a lot of people's lives, Noah.
Abby: Austin, you're a little out of your element here.
Summer: Okay, if my husband has something to say, he's allowed to say it.
Abby: Yeah, by all means. It's a free country, especially if you can not go to jail after committing a dangerous, violent crime. [Chuckles]
Summer: Okay, so it's not enough that he's paid his debt, but now he has to come here and get insulted, too?
Abby: Relax, Summer. I like Austin. I do. It's just dad would eat him alive if he heard him speaking like that.
Summer: Grandpa has wrecked more lives than anyone that I know, and now he's gonna sit here and try to make me choose between the Abbotts and the Newmans again.
Abby: Summer, no one understands that dilemma more than I do, but now you don't have to choose. You're not an Abbott. Jack's not your dad. Nick is.
Noah: Well, he's my father, too, and how long before grandpa tries to put me in a position to choose just because he doesn't like my mom?
Summer: Your mom is getting everything that she deserves.
Noah: Whoa, and your mom is so perfect?
Summer: Your mom is a lot worse.
Abby: Honestly, I think it's a tie. [Chuckles]
Austin: That's not funny.
Abby: It's a little bit hilarious.
Summer: Okay, you know what? Then you two can laugh it up without me, because I'm done.
Austin: That makes two of us.
Abby: No, relax. Look, I'm trying to lighten the mood. It's jokes -- jokes.
Austin: Doesn't seem like a joke, Abby.
Abby: [Sighs] Look, that's just because you don't understand the dynamic at play here. And dad doesn't joke. You just -- you don't know.
Summer: Okay, you know what? There is one thing that we do know, and that's where the door is.
Abby: [Sighs]
Victor: Where did Summer go?
Noah: She decided she wasn't very hungry. Um, I'm not feeling that great either. I think I'm gonna head out. So, uh, enjoy family dinner.
Victor: All right.
Noah: Good night.
[Door opens, closes]
Victor: What the hell happened?
Abby: Um, some people have no sense of humor.
Jack: No, you're right. I-I-I fell for Kelly. I fell for her in a big way, but not until after I'd lost all hope that Phyllis would ever return. She blindsided me coming back.
Ashley: Not to mention she upset you by hiding the fact that Summer is nick's daughter and not yours.
Jack: I wish that hadn't happened. She made things a lot more difficult.
Ashley: Not to mention she caused you a lot of needless pain.
Jack: As Phyllis said, I fell in love with all of her -- the good and the bad. These last few days, I'm telling you, I realized I'm as crazy about her now as I have ever been. So I have to tell Kelly it's over.
Ashley: You haven't told Kelly? What are you doing? You're engaged to Phyllis. Why are you stringing Kelly along?
Jack: I tried to tell her.
Ashley: Well, why didn't you do it?
Jack: Her mother is in the hospital with a heart attack. Kelly is distraught. I did not want to add to her problems.
Ashley: Jack, you can't wait until everything is all right. You've got to tell her right away. What if she hears about it from somebody else?
Jack: I know. I know. You're right. I have to tell her.
Lily: Well, that takes care of flowers.
Kelly: And what about the cake?
Lily: Uh, oh, the bride wants red-velvet cupcakes.
Kelly: Those don't photograph very well.
Lily: I know. I told her that, but I guess her and the groom -- that's what they had as dessert on their first date.
Kelly: That's sweet.
Lily: Yeah, it was cute. I guess he took her to this concert in the park, and they had a picnic. And then I guess it was cold outside, so he gave her his jacket, and... hello? Something wrong?
Kelly: Sorry. Just my first date with Jack was a concert in the park.
Lily: You know, maybe he just wants to let Phyllis down gently, you know? That you guys are gonna have a future together, and -- and maybe he tried to tell her, and something came up, like the phone rang or someone at the door. You know how those things go.
Kelly: Yeah, maybe that's it. And maybe he did tell her, and they had a big blowout, and he's just trying to spare me.
Lily: Yeah, I mean, knowing Phyllis, I'm sure she did not take the news very well at all.
Kelly: Yeah, considering the stories I've heard, I'm surprised that woman hasn't come after me with a machete.
[Both chuckle]
Lily: Yeah.
Ashley: So, now I understand what the surprise was about. You're engaged to marry my brother.
Phyllis: At long last.
Traci: Well, I, for one, am very happy. I think it's great.
Jack: Well, you know what? I'm gonna leave you ladies to enjoy yourselves.
Phyllis: What? You're leaving now? Jack, no.
Jack: I did not know about this, and I have a meeting that I can't get out of.
Phyllis: So send your assistant, Hilary, or one of the VPs.
Jack: It's important that I be there to see this person myself.
Ashley: Yeah, I agree with that. You need to handle this as soon as possible before everything falls apart.
Jack: I'll be back as soon as I can, okay?
Phyllis: Try not to be too late, okay?
Jack: I don't know how long it's gonna be, but I'll be back quickly. [Smooches]
Phyllis: Well, I can throw a party, can't I?
Traci: Oh, I wouldn't worry about it. You know, impromptu gatherings are always kind of a crapshoot, right?
Ashley: In case I haven't said, um, congratulations.
[Glasses clink]
Ashley: Yay.
Phyllis: Yeah, you didn't. Yeah, but you also might recall that I'm not an idiot. I know how you feel about me, Ashley, and you probably had a few choice words to say to Jack about me behind my back.
Ashley: No, I really didn't, and you can ask him yourself. But now that he's gone, and it's just the three of us, maybe it'll give us a chance to clear the air and get things out in the open.
Phyllis: Oh, I don't think so.
[Keys jingle, lock clicks]
[Dog panting]
Nick: Hey, dog. What are you doing? Are you the welcoming committee? Hmm? What's your name? You don't have any tags. But you definitely belong to somebody. That's a good boy. Well, I'll tell you what. I'll get you some water, and I'll get some wood and warm this place up, and we can hang out for a while, huh? Sound good?
Austin: I mean, please, where does he get off?
Summer: Yeah, well, you should hear what he calls people that he doesn't like.
Noah: Well, I still think you kind of owe me an apology.
Summer: What, am I supposed to say that I forgive your mother for the way that she screwed up my whole last year? Not to mention my mother's?
Austin: Okay.
Noah: Look, there's --
Austin: No, no, no. Let it go, all right? Victor may have gotten us all wound up, but we don't have to let it ruin our night or forget how much we like each other.
Noah: No. How much we love each other.
Summer: All right. Shut up and just give me a hug.
Noah: I love you.
Summer: Love you.
Noah: Okay, I told dad I was gonna keep an eye on things, so...
Austin: All right.
Summer: Abandon us. See if we care.
Noah: Have a good time.
Summer: Okay.
Austin: Oh, are you as hungry as I am?
Summer: Yes, I'm starved.
Austin: [Chuckling] Okay. Do you want to eat here, or do you want to maybe go back to your mom's? See if it's not too late for dessert.
Summer: Uh, no. Then we're gonna have to give an explanation of why we're not at the ranch house, and honestly, I am tired of explanations and having to constantly defend the way that I feel, so...
Austin: Is that why you thanked Jack for telling Kyle? So you didn't have to?
Summer: I mean, it made it a lot easier, for sure.
Austin: Because...?
Summer: Kyle and I were close at one point.
Austin: How close? I mean, I know he's Jack's son and all, but...
Summer: I-I was... in love with Kyle.
Summer: So, every time I mentioned Kyle's name, my dad would practically freak out, which, at the time, I didn't understand why, but... now I do. I mean, he thought I was falling in love with my brother, and that's what motivated him to redo the paternity test, you know, to keep me from getting in any deeper. What are you thinking?
Austin: Well, if Sharon hadn't messed with the lab results, your life would be way different.
Summer: Yeah, maybe. But, you know, the fact that I didn't know the truth had a good side -- one that I'm really glad about.
Austin: Yeah?
Summer: Yeah. You know, if Kyle and I had gotten together, I never would have run off with you or married you, and being your wife has been, by far, the greatest thing that has ever happened to me.
Nick: What better way than over a drink for new friends to get to know each other?
[Cell phone rings]
Nick: I'd rather talk to the dog.
Abby: Nick didn't pick up?
Victor: No. I'm not gonna spend the rest of the evening worrying about it, either.
Abby: Oh, I'm sure he's fine. He probably just needs space, like some other members of our family that I will not name.
Victor: Yeah. Well, if they don't want to be here, that's their problem, right?
Abby: Right. Well, dad, you can't control everyone.
Victor: Not even you?
Abby: Oh, especially not me.
Victor: Really?
Abby: [Chuckling] I am my father's daughter.
Victor: Come here. I love you.
Abby: Love you.
Victor: Well, thanksgiving is around the corner. I'm sure everyone will be here for that.
Adam: Thank you.
Constance: Gabriel, darling.
Adam: Yes?
Constance: I realize you're feeling cooped up. But perhaps -- perhaps a little reading would be good. I believe you were in the middle of this book before the accident. It was always one of your favorites.
Adam: Thank you.
Sage: I believe you read it almost every other year, at least.
[Both chuckle]
Adam: Right. Uh, yeah, thank you. That's very generous, grandmother.
Constance: Look who's come to say hello. Bugatti's been so lonely without you.
Adam: Hey, Bugatti. Come here, boy. Come here.
Bugatti: [Growls]
Constance: Buga-- Bugatti, what's gotten into you?
Bugatti: [Barks]
Constance: This -- this is Gabriel. You adore each other.
Bugatti: [Growls]
[Barking]
Constance: Oh. Bugatti, no.
Chelsea: What you said -- it's all true. Even though Adam is gone, we were married, and we shared our hopes and our dreams. That will always be there.
Billy: And when those hopes and dreams don't pan out, you got to put them away, move on with your life and try to find happiness wherever you can, and I have. Chelse, I have with you.
Chelsea: That's great, Billy. But can you honestly tell me that nothing will change between us if Victoria's baby turns out to be yours?
Ashley: So, you invite Traci and me over, and now, suddenly, you don't want us to stay?
Phyllis: You know, the party's a bust. Better luck next time. I think I am gonna go to Jabot, connect with some of my colleagues, and wait for Jack, have a nice dinner with him.
Ashley: No. Now that he's not here, why don't we catch up? Right? It's been a long time.
Traci: And think how great it will be when Jack walks in, and we're all planning your party together.
Ashley: Without any kind of blood splatter on the walls. [Chuckles]
Phyllis: Fine. I will stay...because Traci is right. And Jack -- he will be happy about that.
Ashley: Yeah.
Traci: And us, too.
Phyllis: Look, I-I know that we've had our differences, and it's important to me that you both know that I really want to be a part of this family. I want to show you and Jack that I'd do just about anything to be the kind of wife he deserves.
Ashley: That's so nice.
Phyllis: You know what I'd love to do right now? I'd love for us just to sit down with our wine and a plateful of snacks and just look at some pictures -- all the family albums, you know, and all those cute little pictures of Jack -- little naked-butt shots.
[Both chuckle]
Ashley: Okay. And all the stories that go along with them, right?
Phyllis: You read my mind.
Traci: Well, I think Jack keeps the albums in the study, so...
Ashley: Yeah, let's go see what we can find, okay?
Traci: All right.
Lily: Well, are you sure that you're not hungry? 'Cause I can have the chef make you something to go.
Kelly: Please. No, I'm fine. If I get desperate, I'll forage out of the hospital vending machines.
Lily: Oh, that sounds amazing.
Kelly: [Chuckles]
Lily: Have a good night, okay?
Kelly: Thanks. You, too. Bye.
Jack: Kelly.
Kelly: [Gasps] Hey, Jack. I didn't even see you come in.
Jack: I'm glad I ran into you.
Kelly: Oh, that makes two of us.
Jack: Um...we need to talk.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Stitch: I didn't kill Dad, Kelly.
Chelsea: There's something you need to know.
