Episode # 10498 ~ Lauren wants Michael to admit their marriage problems; Avery backs Dylan; Mariah makes a surprising ally.

Provided By Suzanne

[Pan clatters]

Dylan: [Inhales sharply] [Sighs]

Avery: Hey. Is everything all right?

Dylan: Yeah, yeah. I was just, uh, gonna make you breakfast in bed, but I dropped the pan.

Avery: Well, here. Let me --

Dylan: No, no, no. I got -- I got it. Let me take care of it, please.

Avery: All right, well, just don't pick up anything heavy with your cut, you know? It can open up.

Dylan: I said it's okay. It's fine. Really.

Avery: Listen, I love you for wanting to make me breakfast.

Dylan: Look, I'm, uh -- I'm a klutz, but I'm not -- I'm not helpless, okay? There's no need for you to worry.

Avery: Woman's prerogative. Listen to me. I know that, um, you don't want to hear this, but I think maybe you should see a doctor just to see how --

Dylan: I dropped a pan.

Avery: It's not about the pan! You tossed and turned all night long.

Dylan: I'm sorry if I kept you up.

Avery: I don't care about that. I care about you. And if not's your hand that's bothering you, then what is it?

[Knock on door]

Paul: Come in. Victor.

Victor: Hey, Paul. What you got there? Boy, those are some lures. Look at that.

Paul: My, uh, son made them for me.

Victor: Really? You gonna go fishing for walleye or what?

Paul: Not while Ian ward is missing.

Victor: Ah. So you're still looking for him?

Paul: What do you think?

Victor: Well, I thought perhaps since you didn't want my security team to assist you in the hunt, that perhaps you've lost his scent...and hate to admit it. Unless, of course, you know much more about Ian ward's whereabouts. Not holding out on me, are you, now, Paul?

[Both chuckle]

Mariah: [Chuckling] Oh, my God, please. I do not want a sneak peek at your lame screenplay.

Kevin: Who said it was a screenplay?

Mariah: Isn't that what you geeky guys think -- that you can outdo Tolkien or Whedon or...?

Kevin: Um, it is not a screenplay.

Mariah: [Chuckles]

Kevin: What are you doing here, anyway?

Mariah: I came to see if the cops found Ian yet.

Kevin: They're still looking.

Mariah: Damn it.

Kevin: Look, if the guy is as smart as everybody says he is, he is long gone.

Mariah: Meanwhile, I'm stuck here in limbo, wondering if I'm married to the creep.

Kevin: Well, you were drugged out of your mind when that happened, right? So my guess is no.

Mariah: Oh, so you're a lawyer now?

Kevin: No, but I've been married, divorced. I've had an annulment. You pick up a few things.

Mariah: [Sighs] That's what nick said. Because I was "incapacitated," it's -- it's not legal, but he owns a bar, so what does he know?

Kevin: Well, he's been around the block more times than I have, so if he says not to worry...

Mariah: I just want to be sure. Is that too much to ask?

Kevin: No. I know some lawyers. My brother's one.

Mariah: Well, I have about 30 bucks and change on me, so that'll get me what -- like, uh, 12 seconds with a lawyer?

Kevin: You know you're a Newman, right?

Mariah: The hell I am. Do you know how much I owe Sharon? I don't have money for a lawyer, which means I am stuck in this town for God knows how long.

Kevin: Okay. In other news, uh, your hair looks nice. It doesn't look like you slept in your clothes, so... did you go home after work last night?

Mariah: No. I spent the night on the couch at the underground. But thank you for noticing.

Kevin: Hmm.

Lauren: Are we gonna do this all morning?

Michael: Do what all morning?

Lauren: Michael. Stop.

Michael: [Scoffs] I have a meeting. I'm packing my briefcase.

Lauren: Well, then stop packing it and look at me. We need to talk about what happened last night.

Michael: I was tired. Why are you talking to me like I failed you somehow?

Lauren: Sweetheart. This isn't about failure.

Michael: Then what are you accusing me of?

Lauren: I am not accusing you of anything. But we have never had problems in bed before, and... something's not right. I'm worried.

Michael: You know, I-I can't talk about this right now. I have a meeting.

Lauren: Look, I realize that we're both very frustrated and upset and concerned... but, you know, I tried to talk to you about this last night, and you shut me down then, too.

Michael: Then take the hint and stop pressuring me because, trust me, it's not helping.

Lauren: Well, neither is pushing me away. We have to talk about our -- our sexual problem.

Michael: Later.

Lauren: No. Now.

Michael: Lauren, I promise you we will talk about it tonight.

Lauren: No. No. We can't. Please, this has been eating me alive for days.

Michael: Look, I've just been a little overwhelmed. It's temporary. It will get better.

Lauren: No. Nothing is gonna get better on its own. You have been complaining about being exhausted and stressed and tired. But, honey, you and I are type "a" personalities. We thrive on working too hard and sleeping too little, and we've never had a problem in this area, and now we're scheduling appointments to make love -- only we're not making love.

Michael: You know that I am crazy about you.

Lauren: It's not about the sex itself.

Michael: Of course it is.

Lauren: No. No, you know that I am happy to just cuddle with you and have that emotional intimacy, but we are trying again and again, and it's not happening. That -- that has to tell us something.

Michael: What?

Lauren: Honey, let's go see that counselor again.

Michael: No, no, no. No.

Lauren: No, we were able to talk to her about carmine.

Michael: There is no way that I am paying a complete stranger to listen to stories about our private sexual life.

Lauren: It's not that.

Michael: I hear you, Lauren. I hear you, and, um, we will talk about this tonight.

Lauren: No.

Michael: I've got a meeting.

Lauren: No. Listen. If it were any other problem -- like a financial problem or something with fen, you and I -- we would band together, and we would fix it. Why not this?

Michael: I... I'll see you tonight.

Paul: Victor, we have been friends a long time, but I won't be sharing police business.

Victor: All right, Paul. You did leave your own party with your son. I'm sure it wasn't to talk about lures and catching walleye. Might it be that your son has some information regarding Ian ward's whereabouts? I guess you're not gonna say anything, are you?

[Knock on door]

Paul: Come in. Harding.

Harding: Need to talk to you, chief.

Paul: Well, that's good, because, uh, Mr. Newman was just leaving.

Victor: Paul, just remember that Nikki's well-being is very important to me.

Paul: And to me, as well.

Victor: Then prove it.

Mariah: Thank you for this. I didn't realize how thirsty I was.

Kevin: You are welcome. [Inhales deeply] I should probably get back to work. I don't need Harding on my case any more.

Mariah: I don't have work until later. It is a gorgeous day out. Maybe you could take me for a ride on your Harley and ditch this place.

Kevin: Uh...that is very tempting. Mm. I have to get back to work, but another time, for sure.

Mariah: Whatever. Bye.

Kevin: Wait, wait, wait. Listen up. Um, I think that nick is right, wanting you to live with them instead of just crashing wherever.

Mariah: Why? Because of Ian?

Kevin: Yeah. And the ranch has security out the wazoo.

Mariah: Am I afraid of the guy? Yes, but I'm not gonna let that run my life or make me do things that I don't want to do.

Kevin: You are a brave girl, but I would still feel better if you were armed.

Mariah: [Chuckling] You want me to carry a gun? Seriously?

Kevin: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Who said anything about a gun? I am talking about the touch of doom from "the kingdom beyond."

Mariah: I thought I was a freak.

Kevin: Doubt not the power of the touch of doom. [Imitates crackling noise]

Mariah: I really can't believe you're doing this.

Kevin: Touch of doom. It works.

Mariah: Uh-huh. Bye-bye, weirdo.

[Both chuckle]

Avery: I think I know why you're upset. It's because Ian's still out there, isn't it? And he's capable of still hurting people you care about.

Dylan: Ian is not gonna hurt anybody.

Avery: Dylan, you told me the last time you saw him, you were chasing him from Nikki's house, and you lost him in the trees.

Dylan: Yeah.

Avery: Then how do you know he's not coming back?

Dylan: I answered all these questions with Paul yesterday.

Avery: Yes, and I'm kicking myself for not insisting that I was in there with you to represent you.

Dylan: I didn't -- I didn't do anything wrong.

Avery: Doesn't matter. You don't go to the police and talk to them about a possible crime without your attorney present. I don't care that Paul's your father. You didn't do yourself any favors.

Dylan: Okay.

Avery: Dylan, I need you to answer my question. Why do you know that Ian's not coming back? Look, whatever is keeping you up at night, whatever you're upset about now, this stays between us. Okay? If there's something that you need to tell me, I am listening. I am listening with your best interests at heart.

[Doorbell rings]

Avery: [Sighs]

Dylan: [Sighs]

Avery: Oh.

Michael: Uh, am I early?

Avery: Uh, yeah, maybe a little. Dylan and I were just...

Dylan: We were just talking. Uh, it's good to see you, Michael.

Michael: You, too.

Dylan: I got to get to work. Have a good day.

Avery: Dylan, please wait.

Dylan: I love you.

Michael: I mostly worked with Devon on athletic club matters. You know, advising him on liability matters and so forth. But he has the funds and the ambition to start acquiring other companies, and I believe, over time, I foresee him being one of our major clients.

Avery: Well, we haven't really talked about growing the firm, Michael. I thought you were looking to reduce your workload.

Michael: Well, you know, clients are skittish little things. You have to cultivate the ones you have. You can either grow your business or sit quietly and watch it slowly die.

Avery: Yes, I understand all that, but I thought you and Lauren were looking to spend more time together.

Michael: Lauren understands.

Avery: Okay. Well, then I will arrange a meeting with Devon and give him an overview of our combined skill set.

Michael: Okay. You see? That is an excellent idea. We'll do it together. We'll make reservations at some fancy-schmancy place. But the week is filling up fast. I don't want to put that off for too long. Now, the next item of business is office space.

Avery: Office space? Wait a minute. I-I thought -- I mean, I just assumed that I would be going to your suite at century tower.

Michael: Yeah, they sold that building. It's going condo. That notice just went out. Uh, I contacted a commercial real-estate broker, and he e-mailed me these. Now, this one is built to suit. Plenty of room for expansion as we acquire more staff and junior associates. Now, this one -- the building on chestnut street -- it's interesting, although the parking's a bit tricky. What? What? You don't like these? Look, if this is something you prefer to handle --

Avery: No, I would prefer a little honesty, Michael.

Michael: Well, okay. What do you have in mind?

Avery: Well, I talked to Lauren, and she said that you didn't come home until late the other night because of work.

Michael: So?

Avery: So I thought the whole point of this partnership was to give us time to be at home. What happened to creating the perfect balance in our lives?

Dylan: Come on, man. A whole new boiler? You can't just fix it? I know people who have houses that didn't cost this much.

Sorry, pal, but your old unit's shot. You can replace it now, or you can wait until the middle of January when it's five below, and all the pipes are frozen. Then you'll need a new boiler and all new plumbing.

Dylan: Come on, man. The last thing I need is another bill. What is it with you guys?

Don't shoot the messenger. I'm just trying to do my job.

Dylan: [Slams counter]

Stitch: Whoa. Take it easy. All right, hey, uh, don't threaten a guy with a pipe wrench when all you've got is a coffee stirrer. Look, my buddy's got a lot going on right now. He'll be in touch real soon, okay? Thanks.

Dylan: [Sighs]

Stitch: What, is that why you wanted to see me? To keep you from punching out the furnace guy?

Dylan: I may have overreacted a little bit.

Stitch: [Scoffs] You think?

Dylan: Well, thanks for coming down. There's something that I need to get off my chest, and you're the only one who can understand.

Paul: So, it's an expensive jacket.

Harding: Mm-hmm. And that was found behind the old quarry, and this was found in the pocket.

Paul: Business-card holder. Was there anything inside?

Harding: 22 of them -- all the same. Pulled one to show you.

Paul: Ahh. The path.

Harding: Ian ward's organization.

Paul: Mm-hmm. So, if we can establish Ian ward wearing this jacket when Dylan chased him off the Newman ranch...

Harding: Then that means that ward left his car at the racetrack and walked to the quarry.

Paul: Unless someone moved him there. [Sighs]

[Footsteps approaching]

Mariah: Stay away, or I'm gonna call the cops.

Victor: What's the charge? Helping you find your long-lost family?

Mariah: You must have a really sick sense of humor. You expect me to thank you for getting me mixed up with Sharon in the first place? Oh, my God. You probably knew that I was Cassie's twin the whole time when you hired me, didn't you?

Victor: Pure coincidence.

Mariah: And because you say it, I'm supposed to believe it?

Victor: Some people might say things happen for a reason, you know.

Mariah: Are you one of those people?

Victor: Mm. Well, think about it. You pretended to be Sharon's daughter...and ended up being the real thing. That's kind of destiny, isn't it?

Mariah: You call it destiny, and I call it a royal pain. Sharon and nick won't stop bugging me to come stay with them until Ian is caught.

Victor: Nicholas wants you to stay at their house?

Mariah: [Chuckles] Actually, yes, he does.

Victor: Ah.

Mariah: He wants me to play house with him and the fam. You know, for someone who always prides himself on being two moves ahead, you didn't see that one coming, did you?

[Doorbell rings]

Lauren: Hey. Good morning.

Kevin: Good morning. Is Michael around?

Lauren: No, he just left.

Kevin: Ah. Damn it. I was hoping I could get some legal advice for my friend Mariah.

Lauren: Mariah? Is that Sharon's daughter? I didn't realize the two of you were friends.

Kevin: Yeah, well, I mean, I don't know her that well, but she's freaking out about this whole Ian ward kidnapping thing and whether the marriage that he coerced her into while she was completely out of it is -- is legal and needs to be annulled, and I just -- I -- hey, you okay?

Lauren: Huh? Oh. I'm sorry, honey. I just have a lot on my mind. You know, with fen off at college and...

Kevin: Oh. I bet that's what Michael was upset about the other day.

Lauren: Really? Did he say anything to you? Did he confide in you?

Kevin: All right, you're upset. What's going on?

Lauren: [Chuckles] [Voice breaking] It's ridiculous, you know? I mean, Michael and I are made for one another. I just, uh -- you know, marriages go through ups and downs, and I certainly understand that more than anything, but, uh... if he told you something, you would tell me, wouldn't you?

Michael: Oh, Lauren and I never claimed to have the perfect balance. And, yeah, sometimes finding enough time for each other can be a problem.

Avery: Well, a problem our partnership was supposed to alleviate.

Michael: All right, as long as she and I love each other and we don't take that love for granted, I have no worries.

Avery: Really? You have no worries? None at all?

Michael: Okay, fine. I could do more, but every couple has its challenges. I'm sure you and Dylan have your challenges, which reminds me. What happened yesterday when Paul took Dylan down to the office to be questioned about Ian's disappearance?

Avery: Uh, it was just a-a routine thing, actually. Dylan answered Paul's questions, and that was the end of it.

Michael: Glad to hear it.

Avery: Yeah.

Michael: So, everything that Jeff said about seeing Dylan near the racetrack that night -- that just turned out to be a dead end?

Avery: Near the racetrack?

Michael: Yeah. Near the spot where Ian's car was abandoned. Dylan didn't tell you?

Stitch: I got to say I'm kind of surprised you'd want to confide in me. Ever since my secret came out, you've kept your distance.

Dylan: It's just confusing as hell. You know, how could a guy I trusted with my life...

Stitch: Turn out to be a convicted murderer? I'm sorry I didn't live up to your image of me, bro.

Dylan: No, I was too judgmental. I just couldn't imagine that you were capable of killing anybody, but now I can see may--

Stitch: See what? Mac?

Dylan: [Panting] Ian, get back here!

Stitch: Mac? Buddy, hey. You there?

Mariah: Think what you want, Victor, but I know what I know.

Victor: So you know what you know, all right? Sharon is the one who asked you to stay at the ranch, not Nicholas.

Mariah: Oh, really? Then why is nick the one who is always tracking me down, telling me that I need to stay in town so that I can pay Sharon back? Offering me a place at the ranch free of charge so I can hand over whatever I make to Sharon. They don't need the money, so why would he convince me to stay if he didn't really care or worry about Ian finding me?

Victor: Why don't you do what you want to do? I mean, you're a strong girl. Stick to your guns.

Mariah: [Sighs] Because you have always had my best interests at heart, right, Victor?

Victor: All I'm saying is that, um, I don't think you'd be too welcome in that household, now that Nicholas and Sharon are engaged.

Mariah: They're engaged?

Victor: Uh-huh. So you would wear out your welcome in no time at all. Unless, of course, you're staying in town for another reason.

Mariah: Is that why you're bugging me? You think I know where Ian is.

Victor: Do you?

Mariah: No, and I sure as hell am not waiting around for him, if that's what you're trying to find out. And even if did know where Ian was, I wouldn't tell you.

Victor: All right. Even though he has abused your trust many times?

Mariah: I would hold out for a major payoff. You can afford it.

Victor: [Chuckles]

Harding: And doesn't that mud look red to you?

Paul: Yeah, it sure does, but that makes sense, given where it was found.

Harding: What? How do you mean?

Paul: Well, I'll let forensics confirm, but, uh, the soil out there is tinted this shade because of the red-granite deposits in the old quarry. There's probably no other place in Genoa City that you're likely to find mud that color.

Harding: Interesting.

Paul: Yeah. So let me know when the lab is finished. I got to take care of something.

Harding: [Sighs]

Avery: This is the first I'm hearing of Dylan being anywhere near a racetrack.

Michael: I'm sorry. I shouldn't have repeated that. I'm sure Dylan didn't mean to keep it from you. It probably just slipped his mind.

Avery: Probably. Anyway, new office space.

Michael: Right.

Avery: Yes.

Michael: Okay, we have an appointment to see the building on chestnut street at 10:00 A.M. Unless you hate it.

Avery: Quite the opposite. It's exactly what I would pick if I were looking.

Michael: Great minds.

Avery: Yes, so it would appear.

Michael: All right. Well, look over those listings at your leisure, and I'm going to leave you a folder on one of the companies that Devon is actually interested in acquiring.

Avery: Ah, I will get up to speed on this before we meet him.

Michael: Terrific.

Avery: Huh. How have I never noticed this before?

Michael: Hmm? What's that?

Avery: Hold on. Hold on. Ah. I've had it since the first day I passed the bar.

Michael: Oh, my. They're like dirty, scuffed-up little twins.

Avery: [Chuckles] Yes. Well, I don't use this much anymore, but only when I need serious good luck.

Michael: That's a good omen. We have similar taste in office space and similar taste in tawdry, scuffed-up briefcases.

Avery: Yes, we do. Oh. Looks like I need a new doormat.

Michael: Yeah, those are muddy.

Avery: Yeah. What has Dylan gotten himself into?

Michael: [Chuckles] All right, we have an appointment. I will see you at the building on chestnut street in the lobby, meeting the agent at 10:00 a.m. sharp.

Avery: I'll be there.

Michael: All right. See you then.

Avery: All right.

Stitch: Mac? Mac, you okay? Hey. Did you hear what I said?

Dylan: I'm sorry. What?

Stitch: Mac, you started to say... what happened to your hand? Want me to take a look --

Dylan: No, no, it's okay. It's fine. It's fine. I just had a little, uh...

Stitch: A little moment? Post-traumatic stress?

Dylan: Uh, yeah, I've been having some moments lately. [Inhales deeply] [Exhales deeply] But I can handle it. You know, except for this. I mean, where am I gonna get the cash for a new boiler?

Stitch: Okay, okay. Hey. There's no timetable, brother, on post-traumatic stress. Things will get better as long as you stick to the coping techniques they taught you. That what happened to your hand during one of your episodes? Maybe you couldn't control your anger? Mac, come on. It's -- it's me. Okay? I know when you're lying. Sometimes, I know it before you've even realized it yourself. Do you even remember hurting your hand?

Kevin: If Michael had said something that I thought you should know, of course I would tell you. But he didn't.

Lauren: You're not just saying that?

Kevin: No. It's probably just that empty-nest thing you were talking about. You are not the only one who has to adjust to fen being gone, and maybe Michael is still just figuring it out -- figuring out what it's like to have you all to himself without anybody else around. But that is not the kind of thing he would talk about -- at least not with me. With me, it's always him freaking out that I'm gonna flip out over the way things ended with Chloe, which, by the way, will you tell him that I'm doing my best to move on so he just relaxes a little bit?

Lauren: And by "move on," does this include your new friend?

Kevin: No. She's just a -- you know, she's had a really crappy life, and I just want to help her.

Lauren: Is this because you couldn't help Chloe?

Victor: For your own protection, if you receive any strange phone calls or you feel someone is stalking you, please come to me immediately, all right?

Mariah: Why do you want to protect me? What's in it for you? Especially since I know that you would like me gone.

Victor: That's a good question, but you know how much I protect my family. I'll do anything to protect them, and you are now a part of my extended family, so I'll protect you, too.

Mariah: Nice try, Victor. I think you forget who you're talking to. You would sacrifice me in a heartbeat if it could lead you to the man that you hate.

Victor: Let's hope it doesn't come to that, okay?

Paul: I was hoping to catch Dylan before he left for work. I wanted to thank him for those, uh, fishing lures he gave me.

Avery: Oh, tied them himself.

Paul: I figured.

Avery: Well, he'll be very pleased to hear that you liked them so much.

Paul: I had no idea that Dylan was such a devoted fisherman.

Avery: He's not, actually, but he knows that you enjoy it, and -- and he did it for you -- a way of reaching out. I mean, he's still having some trouble with the father-son relationship.

Paul: Yeah, I know. It's still pretty new for both of us.

Avery: Well, Dylan takes awhile to warm up to people, but he needs to get to know his father, and I know that you want to be closer with him, too.

Paul: You're right. I do.

Avery: So, did you come here to thank him for the gift? Or are you here as a cop, following up on the questions you asked him at the station?

Dylan: Yeah, I was in a rage when I did this to myself. Yeah, it just -- it takes control of me, and I -- any little thing could set it off.

Stitch: Like some poor guy trying to sell you a new boiler?

Dylan: Yeah, but I thought I had my anger in check, but... those bad things... that we went through over there...in combat... never really goes away, does it?

Stitch: The therapy helped before.

Dylan: It didn't solve the problem.

Stitch: I wish I could refer you to someone who could offer you a different perspective, but I lost my residency. I'm -- I'm not qualified.

Dylan: You're more qualified than any shrink that you can refer me to.

Stitch: Yeah, and what makes you say that?

Dylan: Because you know what it's like to be driven to kill somebody.

Victor: So you think about what I said, okay?

Mariah: I actually wasn't criticizing you, Victor... when I said that you would throw me under the bus if it meant getting your hands on Ian. One of the things I admire about you is how determined you are to protect your family.

Victor: Don't you ever forget that. And what I'm beginning to respect about you...is how tough you are.

Mariah: Back at you. I'm willing to do what I have to do, and I think we have that in common.

Victor: So keep your eyes open, listen to everything you hear...at least until Ian ward is found, okay? You have a nice day.

Kevin: Thank you. Look, I am over Chloe. I've accepted that she's gone. How many times do I have to say it?

Lauren: The more times you say it, the more I know you're not as over her as you claim to be.

Kevin: [Sighs]

Lauren: So, is reaching out to Mariah your way of coping with this?

Kevin: Trust me -- I am not interested in rescuing any more wounded birds. Jana, Chloe -- I've exceeded my lifetime quota...

Lauren: I'd say.

Kevin: ...By a lot. Besides, I thought we were talking about you and Michael.

Lauren: Are you sure there's nothing you want to say to me?

Kevin: As far as I know, Michael is not keeping anything from you. And whatever's going on, whatever's upsetting you, I am certain that you guys will work it out. Come here.

Lauren: Thanks, honey.

Michael: So, Zack's at Arizona State?

Mm-hmm.

Michael: Fenmore just started -- liberal arts.

Wow. It's a great school. He's gonna love it.

Michael: He already does. Uh, he's doing pretty well so far, too.

That's great to hear.

Michael: I am glad I ran into you. Um...there's this, um, certain medication I've heard about. I was wondering if you'd be willing to give me a sample.

You got all your hair, and you don't need to lose weight, so, uh...

Michael: You gonna make me say it? [Chuckles] Fine. Uh, this medication is for men who may need some...

Encouragement in the bedroom.

Stitch: Whose bad impulses are we talking about here -- mine or yours? If you're asking about my personal experience -- whatever happened, whatever I did time for -- all I can say is actions have consequences.

Dylan: Yeah, sorry to drag you into this. It's not -- it's not your problem.

Stitch: Look, I-I know a lot's happened, but I'd like to think we're still friends.

Dylan: Yeah, I'd like to think that, too.

Stitch: If you need help, you know where to find it. You just got to stop being so stubborn.

Dylan: Helped me survive.

Stitch: So far. The thing is, all that pent-up rage -- it doesn't magically go away. You need to deal with it, Mac, before it seriously messes up your life. Trust me. I know.

Paul: I never stop being a cop any more than you stop being a lawyer. But I assure you the only reason for my coming here was to thank Dylan for that thoughtful gift. And I was hoping maybe we could set up a time to go fishing and, uh, try out my new lures.

Avery: Well, I'm sure Dylan would love that. I'll let him know you stopped by.

Paul: I'd appreciate that. Great. Thanks.

Avery: Paul?

Paul: I-I assume these are Dylan's shoes?

Avery: Are you asking as his father, or is this one of those moments you can't stop being a cop?

Paul: It -- it's just --

Avery: Curious? Why's that? What is it about Dylan's muddy boots that have you so captivated?

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Sharon: Mariah?

Cassie: No, Mom. It's me -- Cassie.
