Episode # 10482 ~ Nick tries to solve the Mariah mystery; Kelly considers an offer from Jack; Sharon attacks Victor.
Provided By Suzanne
[Knock on door]
Noah: Mom. What's going on here?
Sharon: Taking out the trash. I don't want any sign of Mariah in this house at all.
Noah: Okay. That's sudden. Since when?
Sharon: Since I found her trying to seduce your father.
Mariah: Ian, you are not answering your phone. I tried your room. Call me. I don't know what to do. Everything is falling apart. I need your help.
Alicia: And this woman was a patient here in Madison?
Nick: Yeah, quite awhile ago. She gave up a baby for adoption after birth.
Alicia: Oh, you're gonna have to go through the adoption agency for any information regarding the child's placement.
Nick: Yeah, well, the adoption lawyer's dead.
Alicia: Well, but his files --
Nick: And prior to that, he was arrested for fraud, so we can't really trust his records. So I was kind of hoping to get a look at the hospital's so I could confirm some things.
Alicia: [Sighs]
Nick: Alicia, is there any chance that you could help me out with that?
Austin: There's no way I can pull together this much money. I'll have to forfeit the deal that Leslie made with the assistant D.A.
Summer: No. My husband is not going to prison because we can't pay a fine.
Austin: Okay, how am I gonna get that kind of money by next week?
Summer: I'll pay it.
Austin: How? By going to your father?
Summer: Yeah. What's wrong with that?
Austin: No, look, he already gave us an apartment. I don't feel right going to him with my hand out for this.
Summer: Okay, then I don't have to ask Jack.
Austin: Okay, then how?
Summer: I'll use my money. It's in a trust that my grandpa set up.
Victor: You're absolutely right. You don't need to rely on Jack Abbott for a damn thing, okay?
Jack: I'm doing this all wrong. I should take you out to a romantic restaurant and ask you over a candlelit dinner. This is hardly the most romantic place in town.
Kelly: Jack, I don't need you to pull out all the stops and throw some big over-the-top evening.
Jack: You don't?
Kelly: No, I-I need you to be realistic.
Jack: Okay. The reality is, we are in love.
Kelly: Yes, uh, regardless of that... this is a big step to take given where you are emotionally.
Jack: Given where I am, this is the perfect next step.
Kelly: Jack, you just said goodbye to the woman that you were intending to marry.
Jack: Listen to me. This is not a reaction to my seeing Phyllis in the clinic. I love you. I want to be with you. I'm ready to take this next step together.
Kelly: Well, I'm not.
Leslie: Lauren.
Michael: Oh, hey. How's it going, Leslie?
Lauren: Oh, I don't think we have to ask looking at her beverage of choice.
Leslie: Well, you know, I'm supposed to be meeting my husband to celebrate the deal I made for Austin, but as per the usual, Barton is stuck at the hospital. Nothing new there.
Lauren: Oh, I understand that, honey, you know -- about working hard and the resulting problems. [Sighs]
Michael: Well, we should get to our table. It was good seeing you, Leslie.
Leslie: Great seeing you. Bye.
Michael: Leslie is a colleague of mine.
Lauren: I know that.
Michael: She doesn't need to know all the intimate details of my personal life.
Lauren: What? Did you think I was just going to tell her about what happened?
Michael: You told her we were having problems.
Lauren: I meant problems of busy people, of having to reschedule lunches and texting more than face-to-face because of long hours at the office.
Michael: Oh. Okay, good.
Lauren: Why would I ever say anything about what was going on with us to Leslie?
Michael: Okay, okay. I should have realized that. I'm sorry. Sorry I overreacted. [Sighs]
Lauren: It's okay. Although...
Michael: Although?
Lauren: Maybe you should see her husband.
Michael: Why? I hardly know Barton.
Lauren: Not as a friend. As a doctor.
Mariah: Damn it!
Kevin: Whoa, whoa, whoa! Hey. I wouldn't do that if I were you. 'Cause you will still be mad and frustrated, and you will have a broken phone.
Mariah: Right. Sorry.
Kevin: Someone must have ticked you off pretty bad in order for you to want to take your frustrations out on that poor, innocent electronic.
Mariah: I'm mad at myself. I had something good going, and I completely screwed it up!
Sharon: I caught Mariah lingerie-clad, waiting to seduce nick.
Noah: Did she actually think that dad would go for that?
Sharon: Apparently.
Noah: How? When he looks at Mariah, he sees what we all see -- Cassie, his daughter.
Sharon: Yeah, well, Mariah may look like Cassie, but that is where the similarity ends. Your sister had a big and generous heart. Mariah is nothing but a conniving user who doesn't care about anyone but herself.
Noah: Listen, I'm sorry that she betrayed you, but she's not entirely at fault here.
Sharon: I know. Nick tried to warn me not to trust Mariah after the way that she hurt me. But did I listen? No. I actually invited that woman into my home. I made her part of my family.
Noah: I still can't get past the fact that she tried to hit on dad.
Sharon: But you're not surprised that she tried to take advantage of me.
Noah: I mean, I wish I could say that I didn't see it coming, but... where is she now?
Sharon: After we exchanged some very ugly words, I threw Mariah out.
Faith: But I like Mariah, Mommy. Why did you make her leave?
Sharon: Faith. I... [Sighs]
Alicia: Oh, we really aren't supposed to.
Nick: Yeah. I understand.
Alicia: I mean, I would love to help you, but...
Nick: Yeah, um, see, here's the thing. I don't want to put you in a difficult position. I really don't. But if you think about it, these are really out-of-date records, so who could it possibly hurt? Plus it would really help me out.
Alicia: So, um, what was the patient's name?
Nick: It's, uh, Sharon Collins.
Alicia: Oh, okay. [Chuckles]
Jack: You're turning me down?
Kelly: Jack, I-I just think that -- [Sighs] You have to understand --
Jack: I don't understand at all. Already we're spending practically every evening together at your place or mine. The only thing that would change is we'd be in one place, one bed, our bed. I can't believe you're giving me this kind of trouble about moving in together.
Kelly: I just... wait a -- did you -- was that the question you were gonna ask?
Jack: With a little more finesse, yeah.
Kelly: [Laughing] Oh, no. Oh, I'm so sorry!
Jack: What? What?
Kelly: Oh, my God. I thought that you were going to...
Jack: Propose.
Kelly: Yes. [Laughs]
Jack: Oh, um...
Kelly: You are so not ready for that.
Jack: Well, clearly neither are you.
Kelly: I know. I'm sorry. Okay, moving in -- yay. That's still a big step.
Jack: Well, yeah. If I've learned one thing from this whole mess with Phyllis, it's that you don't delay joy. You don't. It's taken away from you just like that. And these last few months, you have given me great, great joy.
Kelly: Well, good. 'Cause you've made me pretty joyful, too.
Jack: So, you want to shack up?
Kelly: [Laughs] Was that the finesse you were gonna add? Wow. An offer like that -- how can I refuse?
Summer: That would be amazing. You'd get the money and --
Austin: I can't take it. But thanks anyway, Mr. Newman.
Summer: Austin, what are you saying?
Austin: I appreciate what you're trying to do, but I don't want to be indebted to your grandfather. That's a lot of money.
Summer: Okay, but it's my money, right?
Victor: Summer will be able to access her trust fund when she's of age, okay?
Austin: When's that?
Summer: When I'm 25. That's gonna be too late, grandpa. I need the money now to help my husband.
Victor: I understand.
Summer: You told me that you wanted to support me and my marriage when you came by with the wedding gift.
Victor: I did, indeed, yes.
Austin: Don't give your grandfather a hard time. He's just trying to look out for you.
Summer: I know, and I'm trying to look out for you. Please, grandpa.
Victor: Sweetheart, I said that I would make sure that you're happy, okay?
Summer: So...
Victor: I will grant you limited access to your trust fund, but limited access.
Summer: Oh, my gosh. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you.
Austin: Mr. Newman, this is -- it means a lot.
Summer: I know. [Laughs] Thank you.
Victor: Now we need some paperwork done.
Summer: Yeah, no, I'll sign anything that keeps Austin out of prison.
Victor: I'll start the process, okay?
Summer: Yeah.
Avery: Summer, I'm glad you're still here. I just got a call.
Summer: Yeah, what -- what is it about?
Avery: It's about your mom.
Jack: A fresh start is exactly what we need.
Kelly: Wow. Well... let's make some plans.
Both: When do you want to move in to my place?
Jack: Your place?
Kelly: Well, why not my place?
Jack: Well, my house just has more room.
Kelly: Well, your house also has other people living in it, like Billy. I don't want to make people uncomfortable.
Jack: Billy's barely around, and when he is, we won't see him. He's in another part of the house. There are a lot of rooms.
Kelly: Well, my place is small and cozy.
Jack: My house comes with a pool.
Kelly: It's almost fall. I won't miss it. Much.
Jack: And Mrs. Martinez's cooking.
Kelly: Mmm. We can order in.
Jack: What about our walks in the garden or a view of the park or the Jacuzzi tub under the stars?
Kelly: That's lovely, and they're all excellent perks. The best perk -- I'd be waking up next to you every morning.
Jack: Yeah. Which bed do we want to do it in?
Kelly: Oh. Okay. Your place it is. Wow. So, um... when are we gonna do this excellent thing?
Jack: I think we should do this right away. But we're not gonna move a stick of furniture until we tell Summer. I don't want her hearing this from anyone else.
Kelly: We? Are you sure you want me to be there when you do this?
Jack: Yeah. Why not? She's getting better and better at me moving on.
Kelly: Jack, I don't want to make you and Summer -- I mean, I think it'll be much more comfortable for you both if I'm not there.
Jack: We are a couple now. Sooner or later, Summer is going to have to come to terms with that.
Kelly: And all that that implies?
Jack: And all that that implies. I've had to face the truth about Phyllis. I hope I can help my daughter to face the same truth. Phyllis is not going to wake up.
Summer: Who called? Was it from the clinic? Did she wake up?
Avery: Oh, no, honey. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to get your hopes up.
Austin: Who was the call from?
Avery: From Daniel.
Austin: Summer's brother. Didn't -- he called you this morning.
Summer: Yeah, um, I was just really worried about the trial. I forgot to call him back. He didn't leave a message for me, though.
Avery: Well, Daniel had some personal good news. He's received an unexpected grant that's gonna take him out of the country for a few months.
Summer: Was it for his art?
Avery: Mm-hmm.
Summer: He must be really excited.
Avery: Yes, he is, and he asked for me to make arrangements to sign over power of attorney for Phyllis' care to you while he's gone.
Victor: Hmm. When would this take effect?
Avery: As of now. Summer is in charge of Phyllis' care.
Austin: Wait, are you okay with this?
Summer: Um, sure. I mean, I'd rather not, but this is such a good opportunity for Daniel. I just -- I don't know. I find it a little weird that he gets a grant and he has to leave the country right away.
Avery: Yeah, I thought the same thing. Usually these endowments, they involve a long application process, but, uh, according to Daniel, there's an anonymous donor who established a grant specifically for him.
Victor: Well, I think it's testament to his extraordinary artistic talents, you know? Anyway, I'm going to get things rolling.
Summer: Thank you.
Michael: You said an hour ago that what happened in the suite was no big deal.
Lauren: And it's not. Look, I know you love me, and I know that spark is still there between us. But I think you are very concerned about what just happened, and that's why you're reading into things.
Michael: You asked me to consult with a physician. How am I supposed to take that?
Lauren: Look, this isn't about our sex life.
Michael: Shhh.
Lauren: This is about -- my concern for your overall health.
Michael: I am in great health.
Lauren: Honey, you have been very, very tired lately. And, you know, there are a lot of medical reasons as to why that could be. As simple as low iron or thyroid.
Michael: I don't need a doctor to tell me that I'm working too hard. And by the way, I'm not the only one. You are juggling Fenmore's and the boutique, by the way.
Lauren: You're right. And the expansion. I know.
Michael: Yeah, I get exhausted just thinking about everything you've got on your plate.
Lauren: Look, continuing to grow the brand is definitely gonna take a lot of time and energy on my part.
Michael: And that's not gonna change any time soon.
Lauren: Right. Which is why we have to set aside time to be together like we did today.
Michael: But better than today.
Lauren: Honey, our relationship is too important to let things slide.
Michael: I agree. And I'm confident that our personal issues will be handled once we make sure that we spend quality time together.
Kevin: I know all about screwing up. It is the one thing I have been consistently good at.
Mariah: Yeah? How many phones have you broken?
Kevin: Oh, pfft, dozens. So, the last time we talked, you were concerned that you'd messed up so badly that you'd have to find a new job, a new place to live.
Mariah: Yeah, I'm definitely gonna have to now. Sharon hates me, and nick's gonna hate me once he finds out.
Kevin: Well, nick is a reasonable guy. Maybe you can try and explain.
Mariah: I really doubt he'd listen. But I do wish I could see him one more time.
Kevin: Well, Genoa City is a small town. There's a good chance that'll happen.
Mariah: Yeah, you aren't kidding, but I'm not planning on sticking around. There's nothing left for me here.
Alicia: So, how long are you in Madison?
Nick: Uh, just until I can wrap up this case.
Alicia: Where are you staying? Because I'm -- I could -- I could meet you for a drink after I get off my shift.
Nick: It says here that Dr. Hill was the obstetrician on duty when Sharon was in labor. I need to speak with him.
Alicia: Oh, that's not gonna be possible. Dr. Hill is gone.
Sharon: Faith, I had to ask Mariah to leave because she wasn't willing to follow the rules of our house.
Faith: You should give her another chance.
Sharon: Well, I have given her many chances, sweetheart. This is best for everyone that she live elsewhere.
Faith: Why doesn't anybody in this family stay around? First Summer, now Mariah's gone, too.
Noah: Whoa, hey, hey. Summer is still your sister. You have a bracelet right there to prove it. And in case I'm mistaken, I think you have the best big brother in the entire world, right? I'm not going anywhere. Neither is mom or dad.
Faith: Promise?
Noah: You bet, kiddo. Come here. So you don't have to worry about Mariah moving out, okay? Because you've got all the family you need.
Kevin: So, where are you headed next?
Mariah: I have no idea. I'll probably just hop on the first bus I see.
Kevin: Oh, yeah? I like the sound of that. I've had the itch to hit the road, go someplace new, someplace where nobody knows who I am. I'm gonna come with you.
Mariah: Who asked you?
Kevin: Well, if we go together, you don't have to take the bus.
Mariah: Oh, that's better than nabbing a ride in some strange guy's car?
Kevin: Better than beating it out of town on my Harley.
Mariah: We've met twice, and you're talking road trips?
Kevin: So what? We have the same taste in books. We'll have a lot to talk about.
Mariah: Talk?
Kevin: Mm-hmm.
Mariah: On a Harley? Yeah, there's gonna be a lot of chatting.
Kevin: We're both looking to leave Genoa City behind, right?
Mariah: Not together.
Kevin: Who said anything about staying together? Once we're out, I'm gonna start over, have a completely new life. You can, too. We can be whoever we want to be. Separately.
Nick: So, how long ago did the doctor die?
Alicia: Oh, I-I gave you the wrong impression. [Chuckling] I must have been distracted. Forgive me.
Nick: [Chuckles] That's okay. So, you were saying about the doctor?
Alicia: Yeah, um, Dr. Hill is still alive. He's just no longer at the hospital.
Nick: Okay. Uh, could you maybe check the system and see if they left a forwarding address or a contact number for him?.
Alicia: Sure. Oh, well, according to H.R., He went on to teach at the university.
Nick: Here in Madison?
Alicia: Mm-hmm.
Nick: When was that?
Alicia: After his retirement in 1991.
Nick: '91. That's the year Cassie was born. Um, well, thank you for walking me through this.
Alicia: Alicia.
Nick: Alicia. You've been very helpful. And you're obviously very busy, so --
Alicia: Just -- just for right now, but I can still meet for that drink later.
Nick: You know, as much as I'd like that, um, I'm not gonna have any free time until I finish up this case, and that could be awhile since it seems like there's so much more to this story.
Alicia: Well, um... here's my number. And, um... I don't mind waiting.
Nick: Yeah.
Alicia: Mm-hmm.
Nick: Yeah, this is nick Newman. You've done some investigative work for my father. I'm hoping you can do some work for me now.
Victor: I'm leaving now to have my granddaughter sign these papers. And you inform legal to make sure once they receive them to expedite the whole process. Thank you.
Summer: Thanks for the shirt. I'll give it back as soon as I can.
Avery: Okay. I have more shirts. Just come here, drink your tea, and try to warm up.
Summer: I feel like I've been trying to warm up for months.
Avery: Honey, you're still in shock.
Summer: Yeah, I guess that's what happens when you lose both your mom and your dad.
Avery: You haven't lost either, you know.
Summer: Nothing's ever gonna be the same. Even if my mom does get better, it's not gonna be like how it was before. But it is what it is.
Avery: That's quite a statement.
Summer: I'm just trying to keep the promise that I made to my mom.
Avery: Which is?
Summer: I would only cry for one day, and then I would move on with my life.
Avery: How's that working out for you?
Summer: It's a lot harder than I thought.
Avery: Yeah, because feelings have a way of coming to the surface.
Summer: Not if I can help it.
Avery: Honey, I know you want to keep this promise to your mom, but I don't think she would be mad if you broke it every now and then.
Summer: If I do, I'm just gonna feel like I'm giving up on her. And I'm not going to. Not now and not ever.
Avery: Neither will I.
Leslie: Hey, um, I'm gonna make this quick. I know you have to be in court soon.
Avery: No, my client pled out, so I have time. Uh, you said in your text it was important.
Leslie: Yeah, I-I really don't even know how to tell you this.
Avery: Well, listen, before that, I want to thank you for what you did for Austin. It was the right thing to do. And Summer is so grateful. Wait a minute. Do not tell me the A.D.A. Is trying to back out on Austin's deal.
Leslie: Oh, no, the deal is fine. But, um... I'm rethinking the one we made.
Avery: Uh, with whom?
Leslie: You and me. Our partnership. Avery, I want out.
Michael: Oh, well, it's nice to see my brother in one piece.
Kevin: Why wouldn't I be in one piece?
Michael: Well, considering the mood you were in the other day when you left the squad room and Harding, you know, what with wanting to snap you in half. And a motorcycle, Kevin? A motorcycle? Really?
Kevin: Okay, okay, do you two know each other? Mariah, Michael. Michael, Mariah.
Michael: You know what? You look just like, um --
Mariah: No, yeah, yeah. I get that a lot, but I am nothing like Sharon's beloved daughter. You know what? I'm ready when you are.
Kevin: Great. Let's go.
Michael: No, no, no, no, no. I'm sure your new friend won't mind us talking alone.
Kevin: Michael, what is there to talk about?
Mariah: It's fine. I have, uh, something to take care of. Go ahead. Coffeehouse, an hour?
Kevin: Great. I'll see you there in an hour. Okay.
[Cell phone alerts]
Mariah: [Sighs]
Noah: Hey, faith, I got to ask you a question.
Faith: What?
Noah: Are you ready for a rematch?
Faith: Yes.
Noah: Great. Go get the game set up.
Faith: Yay!
Noah: Be right there. Go! Go, go, go!
Sharon: Great. Now faith thinks I'm the bad guy for throwing Mariah out.
Noah: Mom, trust me, you did the right thing.
Sharon: I just wish I would have never invited that conniving, little... sneak into my house. I'm the one who convinced faith to give Mariah a chance. You and your father kept trying to warn me against Mariah, but, you know, did I listen? Why didn't I listen?
Noah: Because you're a good person, and you wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.
Sharon: Well, it wasn't entirely that selfless. I couldn't bear the thought of Mariah leaving town.
Noah: Why not?
Sharon: Because I couldn't stand the idea of never seeing that face, her face.
Noah: It's Cassie's face.
Sharon: I needed that connection. Which is exactly what your grandfather was counting on when he hired Mariah, so you're right, Noah. This isn't all my fault. It's Victor's.
Noah: Right. Well, even if that's true --
Sharon: No, it is true. He is the one who brought Mariah into our lives.
Noah: Where you going?
Sharon: Victor's the one who caused all this pain.
Noah: Mom, going after grandpa right now, it's not gonna solve anything.
Sharon: Oh, it will for me. It's about time Victor takes some responsibility.
Noah: Mom.
Summer: Grandpa, thank you. Thank you so much. And thank you for not making me whine and --
Victor: Sweetheart, I love your whining, but the clock is ticking, okay?
Summer: Okay.
Austin: You've gone way above and beyond, Mr. Newman. Thank you.
Victor: The sooner we file this...
[Knock on door]
Victor: ...The better for everyone concerned. There you go.
Summer: Okay.
Austin: Jack, Kelly.
Jack: Hey, we just stopped by to -- what the hell are you up to now?
Summer: Okay, Jack, it's okay. Grandpa's just doing me a favor.
Jack: I seriously doubt that.
Victor: I'm granting Summer access to some of her money in the trust fund.
Summer: Yeah, we needed it for Austin's fine.
Jack: Wait, why didn't you just call me? I'd have happily helped you with the money.
Victor: Why the hell would those two embark upon their marriage beholden to you, Jack? Once she signs this, she won't have to be.
Summer: Okay.
Victor: There you go.
Summer: Okay. What's next?
Victor: The money is yours. Okay. I'm sure this will make you very happy. All right? Fold this up. I'm out of here. Austin, good luck.
Austin: Thank you.
Victor: Thank you.
Jack: I wish you'd have run this by the Abbott lawyers before you signed it.
Austin: What? You think there's a problem?
Summer: No, grandpa said that all those papers were just standard stuff.
Jack: Oh, I'm sure grandpa said that.
Kelly: Well, um, it's all signed, Jack, so...
Summer: Kelly, this is typical. Jack is just being very fatherly because he doesn't trust grandpa.
Jack: For very good reason.
Summer: He's being very nice. Grandpa's actually being really supportive.
Austin: Well, I'm just glad that the money's gonna keep me out of prison. And, um, I'm upset that you had to dip in to your trust fund.
Summer: It's okay. You would have done the same thing for me. I know that this is what's best for our relationship.
Jack: I do know something about that. As a matter of fact, it's why Kelly and I dropped by. We --
Summer: No, I know. Aunt Avery already told me.
Avery: Did I offend you?
Leslie: Never.
Avery: Well, I must have done something to make you want to walk away from our partnership.
Leslie: It was nothing you said, Avery.
Avery: Then what? What?
Leslie: I've just -- I've been doing some soul searching, and I have come to the conclusion that being a defense attorney, it's just -- it's not for me.
Avery: What?! What is this? Are you and Barton starting a family?
Leslie: No. Kids are not in the cards for Barton and I. We agree on that. Our careers are our babies.
Avery: Okay, then why do you want to quit? You're an excellent attorney. I mean, think of all the people you've helped that were wrongly convicted.
Leslie: Um, yeah, that's your specialty. I'm the one who put scum like Ian ward back on the street. And I've been second-guessing my decision to represent him ever since.
Avery: Well, that wasn't your best move. I thought we agreed that even scum has a right to a vigorous defense.
Leslie: And we still agree. But, Avery, you still have the passion to defend even the seemingly guilty with -- with vigor. I don't.
Avery: I don't understand this. What are you gonna do?
Leslie: There's an A.D.A. position opening up.
Avery: You want to prosecute?
Leslie: Seems like a better fit. No blurred lines, no moral ambiguity. Just the pursuit of justice.
Avery: Leslie, justice was served when you helped Austin avoid prison. [Sighs] Well, I hope you continue to see both sides in your new position.
Leslie: Is that you giving me your blessing, partner?
Avery: Well, I can't wait to go up against you in court.
Lauren: I know getting those divorce papers from Chloe was a huge blow, but, honey, you can't let it spiral you out of control.
Kevin: I'm not.
Michael: You bought a motorcycle, Kevin.
Kevin: [Chuckles] I bought the motorcycle before I got the divorce papers, Michael.
Lauren: Why did you do that?
Kevin: Because I thought it would be fun. I thought about the year I had. That was all about losing Delia, Chloe, and all the grief that came with that, and then I thought, "I deserve to have some fun."
Lauren: Well, then, have some here. We're here for you. You're not alone. We want to help you.
Kevin: Thank you. That is a very nice offer. But I think what I need for me is to just get out of town for a little while.
Michael: So you're running.
Kevin: Yes. I'm escaping, Michael. Because everywhere I go, there is something that reminds me of Chloe and Delia, and I think about the life that I had with them. And then I compare it with the life that I'm living now, and this just ain't cutting it. So, I need to figure out what it is that makes me happy.
Michael: Hmm. You know what I'm hearing? I'm hearing my brother is gonna start making some very rash decisions.
Lauren: All right, Michael.
Michael: No. 'Cause you're hurting?
Kevin: You shouldn't worry so much. You should be relieved.
Michael: Relieved?
Kevin: Yeah, relieved. Your son is striking out in the world, and now your brother is gonna be, too. Leaving you free along with your beautiful wife to just live it up.
Michael: Until you get in trouble again and need your big brother to bail you out.
Kevin: [Scoffs] Well, thank you for the vote of confidence.
Michael: Well, this time I just won't be a phone call away. Depending on where that Harley takes you, you might be in that cell for weeks until I can get to you.
Kevin: Cell? Would you give me a little credit, please?
Lauren: Okay, why don't we just order some drinks, okay?
Kevin: I'll tell you what. When I end up in that cell, I'll call somebody else.
Michael: Who? Your good friend Mariah?
Kevin: I love you. I'll see you soon.
Lauren: I love you, too.
Faith: Noah, the game's all set up!
Noah: Okay, kiddo! I'll be right there! Hey, dad, as soon as you get this message, um, I'm worried about mom. She was really upset, and she went to go confront grandpa. Listen, I tried to stop her, but she wouldn't listen. So, you need to talk to her. Okay, bye.
[Knock on door]
Dr. Hill: Come in!
Nick: Dr. Hill?
Dr. Hill: Yes. Mister, uh...
Nick: Newman. It's nice to meet you, sir.
Dr. Hill: What can I do for you today, Mr. Newman?
Nick: Well, I'm running a background check on a prospective employee. I was hoping you could help.
Dr. Hill: And which of my colleagues wants to leave the grandeur of university life?
Nick: It's actually a former acquaintance of yours. Helen Copeland?
Dr. Hill: Hmm. That name doesn't ring a bell. Sorry I can't help.
Nick: Actually, you can be a big help -- once you start being honest.
Lauren: Kevin did make one good point.
Michael: I must have missed it.
Lauren: [Chuckles] We are free to live our life, right? And we did make a pact to spend more time together.
Michael: Well, I'll hold up my end.
Lauren: You will? Starting when?
Michael: Tonight.
Lauren: Really?
Michael: Hmm.
Lauren: Okay! Okay, well, I'm gonna go back to the boutique, and I'm gonna finish up in record time. And I'm gonna be home early to spend some quality time with my man. I love you.
Michael: Hmm. Hurry.
Lauren: Hi, Avery.
Avery: Hi.
Michael: Whiskey straight, please.
Avery: Two, please. You don't look happy.
Michael: No. Right back at you, kid.
Avery: My partner just broke up with me. Leslie wants to apply for an A.D.A. Job.
Michael: [Chuckles] Swapping sides, huh?
Avery: She's hoping she'll sleep better at night.
Michael: I could certainly use a good night's sleep myself.
Avery: Heavy workload?
Michael: I'm exhausted. It feels like all of my cases are coming to trial at once. Well, see what it looks like when you're flying solo.
Avery: No, I wasn't looking for this. In my opinion, it's always better to have a partner. Thank you.
Michael: [Laughs] Here. Toast me. You may have just saved my marriage.
Jack: What did Avery tell you?
Summer: Uh, that I'm in charge of mom's care while Daniel's off on his art grant.
Jack: Daniel's off where?
Summer: He's out of the country.
Kelly: You didn't know?
Jack: No, this is the first I've heard of this.
Summer: Guess Daniel didn't have time to clue everybody in.
Austin: He got a grant from an anonymous donor.
Summer: I think it's awesome that my brother gets to do what he loves, and I get to be with the man that I love. Really nothing could ruin this day.
Austin: Is something wrong?
Summer: I'm sorry. I've been bouncing around. I didn't even ask you guys why you stopped by.
Jack: Oh, uh --
Kelly: Why don't we take you out to a celebratory dinner?
Summer: Usually we would be all over that, but Austin and I have a flight to catch. There's somewhere really special that I want to take him.
Dr. Hill: I must insist that you leave.
Nick: You're lying, doctor. But then again, so am I. I'm not here to do a background check on Helen.
Dr. Hill: Well, then why are you here?
Nick: I want to know about a specific delivery where Helen was the nurse. A baby girl was born, and then she was given up for adoption. The mother of that baby was a 16-year-old girl named Sharon Collins. Do you remember that name?
Dr. Hill: No. Uh, no.
Nick: I need to know every detail about that birth.
Dr. Hill: Even if I could remember every patient, there are confidentiality laws.
Nick: That baby was my daughter, and I want to know why no one else was allowed in that delivery room with Sharon.
Dr. Hill: I have nothing more to say.
Nick: Okay. You got a nice office here. You got tenure, too.
Dr. Hill: I'm calling security.
Nick: See, you've carved out a very nice life for yourself here as a well-respected professor, but you had a life before this, didn't you? A career that you had to abruptly give up just as it was starting to take off. See, I'm not a P.I., But my father, he keeps one on payroll. And he was able to turn up some very interesting facts about you, doctor. Now, tell me something. If I was to share that information with your university, what do you think would happen?
Dr. Hill: Please. Don't.
Nick: Then give me a reason not to.
Victor: I need to talk to Dr. Cutler immediately. It regards Phyllis Newman, okay? Yep.
Sharon: You better hang up the phone.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Chelsea: I'm gonna take Connor and my mom, and we're gonna go away for a while.
Nick: You better stop lying to me!
Sharon: You paid her to pretend to be my dead daughter! But, oh, right, you were justified in that!
Victor: You're damn right I was.
