Episode # 10474 ~ Jack travels to Georgia to tell Phyllis goodbye; Hilary looks for Neil; Austin makes plans for Summer.

Provided By Suzanne

Summer: Is that what I think it is?

Austin: I don't know. Do you think it's a Christmas tree? [Chuckles] If so, then, yes, it's exactly what you think it is. Merry Christmas.

Jack: I miss you already.

Kelly: Oh, you won't be gone long, will you?

Jack: Oh, 10 minutes to the airport. The jet is fueled and ready. Get some work done in the air. Rent a car, drive out to the clinic. After I see Phyllis, I turn around and do the whole trip backward.

Kelly: Wow. You've done this trip so many times.

Jack: Yeah.

Kelly: No one could be more devoted, Jack.

Jack: Even if she can't hear me -- if she can't understand me -- it's important that I tell Phyllis in person what I've told everyone else -- that I have fallen deeply in love with a beautiful woman named Kelly, and I'm ready to start my new life with her.

Kelly: I'm really proud of the way you're doing things. I think you're doing the right thing.

Jack: It's important that I see Phyllis so that we can all move on. I promise -- I'll be back before you know it.

Kelly: Jack, wait. Don't go.

Ian: Oh, Mariah, my dear. Perfect timing. [Chuckles] Your message sounded urgent. How can I help you?

Mariah: Mom called.

Ian: I see. I hope she's not planning a visit.

Mariah: I doubt she even knows where I live.

Ian: Well, let's keep it that way, shall we? I fear Helen doesn't have your best interests at heart the way I do.

[Telephone ringing]

Nick: The underground. Nick Newman speaking. Yes, hi. Thank you for calling me back. Uh, you're with the state licensing bureau for all the nurses in Kentucky? Great. I was wondering if you could help me. A friend of mine needs some at-home care, and I was given a very good recommendation for a nurse named Helen Copeland, and I was wondering if you might have a number for her. It's important I get in touch with her as soon as possible. Yes, I have a piece of paper and a pen ready. Uh, yeah, it's Copeland -- c-o-p-e-l-a-n-d, Helen. Uh, I don't know if there's a middle initial or not. Okay, so not in the database? Okay, uh, thank you very much for your time. I really appreciate it. Bye.

[Phone thuds]

Sharon: Nick? What's wrong?

Lily: Tell housekeeping to use the new linens right away. Okay, thank you. Bye.

Cane: Hey.

Lily: Hey.

Cane: You need to see this.

Lily: What is it?

Cane: It's the financial reports for the club.

Lily: Oh, god. Is it bad?

Cane: Well, I've been crunching the numbers for the last couple of weeks, and, um... we made a profit. We made a huge profit. They said it couldn't be done after the hostage crisis last winter, and you did it. You did it, babe.

Lily: No, you're wrong.

We did it.

Cane: Ahh! [Chuckles]

Hilary: I am dreading this. Just the thought of Neil's face...

Devon: Listen to me. You and I will get through this, and so will Neil. I promise you.

Hilary: Okay. I'm gonna tell him. [Sighs] I'm just gonna tell him that... we need to talk.

Devon: Okay.

Neil: Oh, no, no, no. No, please don't go out on me again. Okay. Which one is it? [Sighs]

[Cell phone ringing]

[Cell phone ringing]

Hilary: It's a voicemail. Should I leave a message?

Devon: No, I wouldn't do that.

Hilary: Yeah, you're right. I mean, how am I supposed to leave a message saying that, "as much as I love you, our marriage was a mistake"?

Devon: It's okay.

Nick: Oh, I was just trying to do a background check on an employee, and it's getting frustrating 'cause I keep getting the runaround.

Sharon: I imagine you would get frustrated.

Nick: But I'm glad you're here. Want to have some lunch? I know the owner here -- cool guy. I'm sure he can hook us up with a booth that's, uh, really private.

Sharon: Mm. Well, as tempting as that sounds, I-I just came by to say hi. I have a meeting at the club, and I wanted to check in with my doctor.

Nick: Why? Are you not feeling well?

Sharon: No, I'm fine. I just wanted to see if I could get some referrals for a new therapist.

Nick: [Inhales sharply] Yeah. I still can't believe my dad went behind your back to try and get information.

Sharon: I'm not surprised by anything Victor does. He proved a long time ago he has no ethics. What kills me is the thought that dr. Mead would sell my confidential information. I just feel so betrayed. She was the one person in my life I really felt I could trust... besides you, of course.

Mariah: You have done a lot for me, and I am incredibly grateful.

Ian: I hear a "but" coming.

Mariah: But...

Ian: [Chuckles]

Mariah: ...I'm not a kid anymore. I have a job, a home, people who I can count on to look after me.

Ian: Now, you're referring to Sharon and Nicholas, huh?

Mariah: You know, you were the one who said I ought to stay close to them, which -- which I have. They're good people. I mean, you are happy for me, aren't you -- that I am finally building a life of my own?

Ian: Mm, yeah, I'm very pleased with your spiritual and emotional development. I mentored you when you were growing up, and I always tried to point you in the right direction.

Mariah: "Tried" being the key word. I did not make it easy. I know that.

Ian: Oh, I'm very proud of you, Mariah. You're a wonderful person. We have a special bond, and even if others disappoint you, you can always count on me.

Mariah: It goes both ways, you know? I know you had a disappointment recently.

Ian: Ah.

Mariah: Losing in court to the Newmans -- that must have hurt.

Ian: Well, it's a bit of a setback, but... I'm hardly defeated. Victor and his family -- they have power and influence that go into the courtroom and far beyond, which makes me even more determined to bring enlightenment to that misbegotten clan.

Summer: This is the most beautiful tree I have ever seen.

Austin: Well, you've seen it a few times by now 'cause there's not much to it. [Chuckles]

Summer: I love that you decided to give me the holiday that we might not get to share if...

Austin: If I'm sent to prison.

Summer: I don't want to talk about that right now.

Austin: Good. Me neither. This is supposed to be a celebration.

Summer: It's my favorite holiday.

Austin: [Chuckles]

[Christmas music plays]

Summer: [Chuckles] Okay, and cue the snow.

Austin: Yeah, I didn't get that elaborate.

Summer: [Chuckling] Okay.

Austin: But I did get Christmas cookies and eggnog.

Summer: Where did you find eggnog in august?

Austin: I made it.

Summer: Oh, you did not.

Austin: I did so. Mr. Internet had a recipe, and it actually turned out pretty decent.

Summer: You -- you're amazing.

Austin: Wait. There's more.

Summer: Okay, let's see. Did you find "a Christmas carol" on DVD?

Austin: Better.

Summer: Oh, okay. Um, you sewed me a stocking with my name on it and everything.

Austin: You're getting warmer.

Summer: [Groans]

Austin: Okay, what is the one thing that Christmas would not be complete without?

Summer: Mm...presents?

Austin: I thought you'd never ask.

Summer: [Chuckling] Okay. A-Austin. I-I thought we said we were trying to save money.

Austin: We are, but I found some.

Summer: Found some where?

Austin: I sold my camera.

Summer: Your fancy digital one? Austin, are you serious? No, you love that camera.

Austin: Come here. No. I love you more. Go ahead. Open your present. Don't keep Santa in suspense. When we got married the first time, we barely had time to stop at a jewelry store. This is the ring you deserve, Summer, and I've been dying to put it on your finger.

Summer: [Sighs]

Kelly: Aren't you forgetting something?

Jack: Cell phone, briefcase, a book to read on the plane. No, I think I'm all set.

Kelly: I was referring to something a bit more special. A goodbye kiss.

Jack: How could I forget that?

Kelly: [Chuckles] Well, you've had a lot on your mind.

Jack: Thank you for stopping me.

Kelly: Ooh.

Jack: Wow.

Kelly: You're welcome. [Sighs]

Jack: If it helps, I'm a little anxious, too.

Kelly: Oh, Jack.

Jack: It's a big deal for both of us. By saying goodbye to Phyllis, I'm also saying hello to a new future with you. I don't take that lightly. Neither do you.

Kelly: Well, I'm fine. It's all good.

Jack: As long as you know it's okay to be nervous about this trip and what it means for all of us.

Kelly: Look, I don't mean to sound so insecure or -- or doubtful of what we have, but in my experience, if something is too good to be true... it usually is.

Victor: Hi, dr. Burnett. This is Victor Newman. I just landed. Well, I'm here to reconfirm our meeting regarding Phyllis' case.

Dr. Burnett: There's been no change in her condition, Mr. Newman, and there's not likely to be any.

Victor: Now, dr. Burnett, I'm not someone who likes to hear negative things, all right? I always think positively, and I'm here to make sure that Phyllis gets the latest state-of-the-art treatment so that she can come out of her damn coma. And she will come out of it.

Jack: You are allowed to feel whatever it is you are feeling, and I will not judge you one bit.

Kelly: Look, Jack, I want you to know that it is absolutely nothing you have done, okay? If I'm feeling a little insecure, I mean, I have good reason.

Jack: Yeah. Your entire family has had more than its share of tragedy.

Kelly: I've tried so hard to heal the scars of my past. I've tried so hard to build a family of my own, and now I'm gonna have to watch my brother's life fall apart all over again, so I-it's not superstition, Jack, okay? It's based on painful experience.

Jack: Okay, listen to me. I am gonna take that kiss on to the plane with me and every step of the way after that. In return, I want you to keep one thought in mind -- when I come back from Georgia, I'm coming back to the woman I love, and together, we are going to let the past go -- yours and mine -- and with it, all of the pain and upset and heartache and disappointment. All that will matter is our future together.

Kelly: God, I want to believe that. I really do.

Jack: Then believe it. Believe it.

Austin: Summer. Wow. I'm -- I'm sorry. I-I didn't mean to upset you.

Summer: No, you didn't. You didn't. It's perfect. I-I love the ring that you got me. I love -- I love you even more for doing all of this for us -- for giving us Christmas. It's just...

Austin: What? Summer, what is it?

Summer: I've been waiting to give you a surprise of my own since our wedding. It's a special telephoto lens for your camera, but since you sold it, I...

Austin: [Chuckles]

Summer: [Chuckles]

Austin: Wow, it's, uh -- it's just like that old, uh, Christmas story.

Summer: Yeah. "The gift of the magi." It's one of my grandma Nikki's favorites. The couple each gives up something that they love to give a special gift to the other one. Except that story had a happy ending.

Austin: Hey. We'll write our own ending.

[Both chuckle]

Summer: Oh, my god. That is not mistletoe. Where did you find mistletoe?

Austin: I have my ways.

Lily: I know that you had your doubts on whether managing this place would be enough of a challenge, and I know that Victor and Colin didn't help when it came to making it seem like this was nothing.

Cane: Well, they had their own agendas. We should be used to that by now, yeah.

Lily: Yes, and I know that you still have your own ambitions, but -- I don't know -- aren't you proud of what we've achieved together?

Cane: You bet I am. You know what? I have mountains I want to climb, but I would not trade this moment with you for anything in the world right now.

Lily: I know that everybody thought that I was crazy for leaving Jabot to come run a hotel.

Cane: Yeah.

Lily: But I don't know -- when Devon asked me, it just -- I don't know -- it seemed right. And we love this place, and to come here and turn it around and make it special again -- I mean, it's a great achievement, and I am damn proud of us.

Cane: Hear, hear!

Lily: Hear, hear. [Chuckles]

Hilary: Should I try Neil again? Just at least tell him to call me?

Devon: I mean, if he was available, he'd call you back.

Hilary: Devon, this isn't something that I want to sit on.

Devon: You're right. He needs to know right now.

Hilary: Here we go. [Chuckles nervously] Hi, Neil. It's me. We really need to meet. Um, it's important. Um, I-I can't do it over the phone. So can we meet at our place? See you shortly. [Sighs]

Devon: It's good. That's good. Hey. You're doing the right thing 'cause we deserve to be happy, and once we get past all this, everything's gonna be fine.

Hilary: You know, when I'm telling Neil, you're gonna have to tell somebody, too.

Devon: Lily.

Hilary: Yeah. Good luck with that.

Devon: Yeah. [Sighs] I'm not looking forward to watching my sister flip out, but I want her to be there for our dad in case he needs her, 'cause I think he will.

Sharon: I wish I could just pronounce myself cured and then forget all about getting a new therapist. Once you open up your deepest feelings and thoughts to someone, and then that person turns around and betrays you, it kind of leaves a bad taste in your mouth, you know?

Nick: All right, you're not serious, are you? I know that you are shaken up by this, but you need to stay in therapy, Sharon. You need to stay on your meds. They've made all the difference in how you handle things. I mean, they made it possible for us to...

Sharon: For us to be together. I know. Don't worry. I'm gonna stick with the plan.

Nick: Good.

Sharon: I know I have to be strong -- not just for me, but for our family. You know, I wasn't there when it happened, but I saw how much reassurance faith needed after Ian threw that tabloid in Nikki's face and then sent that reporter after her, hounding her about giving Dylan away. I mean, how could they do that? How could they say things like that in front of a child?

Nick: For Ian to pull that stunt on my mom -- and with our daughter sitting right there -- you had to know he did it on purpose.

Sharon: Like he waited for the exact right moment to cause the most damage.

Nick: Of course he did. He never leaves anything to chance.

Sharon: And if you're thinking of bringing up Mariah and her connection to Ian...

Nick: He is a menace, Sharon.

Sharon: I'm not disputing that, nick. I'm just saying she sees him in a very different way.

Nick: Yeah, I know all about that.

Sharon: And you don't like it.

Nick: Do you?

Sharon: Well, like you said, keep your enemies closer, and "enemy" being the operative word for Ian, not for Mariah. I think the best antidote against Ian ward is just to show Mariah what a great home she has with us.

Nick: Yeah. Well, you sure I can't get you something to eat?

Sharon: Um, no, thanks. I actually have to go to my meeting. Keeping busy is good therapy, too. Bye.

Nick: Bye.

Mariah: So, going to the tabloids with Nikki's journal -- was that your way of enlightening her and her family?

Ian: Uh, who told you that?

Mariah: Nick did. And he says that you upset a lot of people, including his daughter, which is kind of sick, Ian. She's a little girl, and she doesn't need to be hearing all of that stuff. Nick says that --

Ian: "Nick says" -- aren't you being a little overly concerned about what nick thinks?

Mariah: Nick is a really great guy.

Ian: Ah.

Mariah: You know, he may be a little bit older than me, but he's unlike any guy that I've ever met.

Ian: [Sighs] All right, now, you listen very carefully to what I'm gonna say here, Mariah. I have watched you struggle for years to find your own identity. You recall I encouraged you to forget about Helen. You need an environment that's stable and secure, and you have that now with nick and Sharon. So don't screw it up.

Mariah: My whole life, you've told me to follow my path, wherever it leads, so now that I'm doing that, why are you still giving me orders?

Ian: Oh, it's my job to -- it's my greatest joy in life to help guide you along that path.

Mariah: So it seems I'm doing all right without your help. It is my path, right?

Ian: That it is.

Mariah: Well, I've told you about M. You can decide what you want to do about it. Speaking of jobs, I have to get to work before nick fires me, which is the last thing that I want.

Ian: [Scoffs]

Kelly: Much better.

Jack: Not my shade, huh?

Kelly: [Chuckles] Be safe.

Jack: I will.

Kelly: Listen, I know this is gonna be wrenching for you. I do. I want you to know that I'm gonna be here, strong, and thinking of you the whole time, okay?

Jack: And I'll be thinking of you. And I hope this trip, talking to Phyllis, will give me the wisdom and the courage to find the right words to explain my decision to my daughter.

Kelly: Well, Summer has grown up a lot lately, and you always handle things beautifully with her, so I'm sure she'll understand.

[Horn honks]

Victor: So, I understand that Daniel Romalotti has accepted your organization's very generous grant. Well, that's wonderful. So he'll be part of your world-renowned artists' colony. Well, you're one of the most renowned artists' colonies in Europe. Yes. [Chuckling] Yes. Well, it must have been difficult for him to decide to leave his mother's side. Well, but when Phyllis comes out of her coma, I'm sure she'll understand why he made that decision and why he accepted your offer -- yes.

Lily: So, are you thinking what I'm thinking?

Cane: Well, that depends on what you're thinking.

Lily: Well, I was thinking, why are we down here when there's...

Both: A perfectly good suite upstairs?

[Both chuckle]

Cane: You mean the suite that's been our paris on more than one occasion?

Lily: Ah, ooh-la-la.

Cane: In the mood to celebrate?

Lily: Only all night long.

Cane: All right. You get the sitter, and I'll go get the suite.

Lily: Deal, handsome.

Cane: Okay. [Sighs]

Lily: [Chuckles]

Devon: Hey, Lil.

Lily: Hey.

Devon: I need to tell you something.

Lily: Yeah, I know. Cane just told me. Isn't it great? [Chuckles]

Hilary: Cane. Have you seen Neil?

Cane: Why do you ask?

Hilary: I was waiting for him to meet me at home, and he never showed up.

Cane: Well, maybe he's at Jabot.

Hilary: He's not there either, and I need to speak to him. It can't wait. I've left him several messages. He still hasn't called me back. That's not like him. Do you have any idea where he could be?

Cane: I'm sure there's nothing wrong. You have nothing to worry about. It's okay.

Hilary: Do you know something that I don't know? Because it's important, or I wouldn't be asking. Cane, please. Where is my husband? What are you not telling me?

Cane: I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Ian: [Chuckles] Sharon. Well, what a pleasant surprise. Uh, please, join me, by all means.

Sharon: Dining on rabbit food, now that you've lost your lawsuit?

Ian: [Chuckles] I'm waiting for my steak. Besides, what goes around comes around -- a lesson the Newmans will learn sometime shortly, and I just hope that you and Nicholas don't suffer too much from his mother's sins, now that you've been helping Mariah. You've been so kind to her.

Sharon: The only ones suffering right now are nick's mom and our daughter. After you rubbed that tabloid in their faces and sicced that reporter on Nikki, our daughter was traumatized.

Ian: No, no. I did no such --

Sharon: Save it, please. So, what's your next dirty trick -- Mariah's mother?

Ian: What about her?

Sharon: She had to have told you that Helen called.

Ian: Hmm.

Sharon: So, what can you tell me about this woman? Is she capable of coming here and causing trouble?

Ian: Helen Copeland is capable of anything. That woman is not to be trusted.

Sharon: And you can be?

Ian: Sharon, in spite of what you think of me, I've always been there for Mariah. I still am -- always will be. She's a wonderful girl, but she's still in need of guidance.

Sharon: Guidance that only you can provide, right?

Mariah: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Whoa. Let me help you out.

Nick: I got it.

Mariah: No, no, no. I -- here -- let's set it on the bar.

Nick: I -- Mariah, I got it. I got it. Thank you. [Sighs]

Mariah: That was close.

Nick: All right, I know what you're trying to do, and it's not gonna fly.

Mariah: Excuse me?

Nick: Yeah, you're trying to bury yourself in your work and make me forget that I'm still super pissed about you lying about your mother being dead.

Mariah: Nick, I know that you have every right to be mad at me, and I am so grateful to you and Sharon for opening your home. I'm truly sorry that I lied to you. My whole life, it's kind of just something that I've done -- is lie to people. I don't know why I keep doing it.

Nick: Did you learn that from your mother? What else can you tell me about Helen Copeland?

Mariah: I really don't want to talk about my mom.

Nick: Well, what if I want to talk about her?

Pamela: Oh, Mr. Abbott. It's so good to see you again.

Jack: Oh, hi, Pamela. Yeah, you, too. Um, I won't visit for long.

Pamela: Oh, it's okay. Stay as long as you like. I think it's wonderful how devoted you are to the woman you love.

Kelly: [Clears throat] Hey, Jack. Uh -- uh, I just wanted to say how incredibly handsome you looked on your way to the airport, even with my lipstick on you. [Chuckles] [Sighs] You're doing the right thing, you know? I mean, usually, the right thing is the hardest thing to do, in my experience, so I just wanted to say, uh, what an amazing job you're doing, um, handling things the way that you have been. Anyway, uh, you probably don't get tired of hearing that. Um...I just wanted to say before I forget... I love you.

Mariah: Nick, please understand. As much as I would like to help, I am trying to put all of that behind me. Thanks to you and Sharon, I'm learning that I can have a different kind of life, and I don't have to be dependent on somebody like Ian, who, I can see, has more than one side to him now.

Nick: Well, I'm glad you realize that.

Mariah: Well, I'm realizing a lot of things lately -- like there may be something else out there for me and someone.

Ian: After the life Mariah's led, it's only natural that she might be susceptible to bad influences, like her mother. And I've done my best to be a buffer between them, but now that Mariah has become more sure of herself, more capable of making her own way in this world, at some point, she just -- she just might stop listening to my advice, which is understandable.

Sharon: You saying you're okay with that, after pulling the strings all these years?

Ian: A puppeteer I'm not.

Sharon: What would you call it?

Ian: Well, I've been a counselor to Mariah and a friend and a bit of a parental stand-in. But as for her newfound independence, it's just another stepping stone in her personal journey, which is why I'm so glad Mariah has you in her life.

Lily: If they have this much trouble filling our order, then we'll get a new vendor. Yes, please, tell them I said that. Bye. I'm sorry. I know you love that florist, but they drive me crazy. Every week, it's something new with them.

Devon: Do what you have to do.

Lily: Thank you. [Exhales deeply] So, this is great news, right?

Devon: I can't believe you know, and you're happy.

Lily: Why wouldn't I be happy about it? It's our most profitable quarter since we took over the club. And not only profitable, but we're over the moon. And you know what the best part is -- is that we did it as a family. I mean, how many people get to do what they love with the people they love and make a success out of it? Right? Thank you for buying this place and putting your faith in cane and me to run it. I am so proud to call you my brother.

Devon: Mm.

Lily: What? What's wrong with you? What's going on? What -- you didn't know about the good financial news, did you?

Devon: Not until you just told me.

Lily: Then what did you come to tell me?

Cane: Come in.

Hilary: What is this place?

Cane: You'll see.

[Electricity crackles, pops]

Hilary: Oh, my god! Neil!

Cane: Neil?

Hilary: Neil!

Cane: Neil? Neil?

Hilary: Neil.

Cane: He's got a pulse.

Hilary: Neil, wake up.

Cane: Neil?

Hilary: Is he breathing?

Cane: Yeah, he's breathing.

Hilary: Neil, please wake up. Please wake up. Please wake up. Neil. Neil.

Cane: I'm gonna call an ambulance.

Jack: It's good to see you, red.

Victor: You're going to be one of the lucky ones, Phyllis. I'll make sure of that.

[Christmas music plays]

Summer: This is the best Christmas ever.

Austin: Good.

Summer: Mm-hmm.

Austin: I was a little worried. I was gonna dress up in a Santa suit, but then I ran out of time.

Summer: I'm really glad that you didn't.

Austin: Overkill?

Summer: Yeah, a little bit. I don't think I would have been able to dance with Santa like this, if you know what I meant.

Austin: Yeah, I get it.

Summer: [Chuckles] Yeah? And this would have definitely been out of the question. Merry Christmas.

Austin: Merry Christmas.

Nick: You know what, Mariah? I'm really glad you're beginning to see the light when it comes to Ian, because whatever he's done for you in the past for whatever selfish reason, the truth is, he's just no good, and I don't want him around anyone that I care about.

Mariah: In that case, nick, I'm gonna make you care... about me.

Sharon: I'm glad Mariah is in my life, too.

Ian: Hmm.

Sharon: Better nick and me than you.

Ian: I only want what's best for the girl. And I just hope that nick realizes his responsibility...as a father figure.

Sharon: Nick doesn't need any advice, especially from you. He can offer Mariah something that you never could.

Ian: Oh, and what, pray tell, might that be?

Sharon: I actually have to go to a meeting. Enjoy your meal.

Lily: If you have something to tell me, just say it.

[Cell phone rings]

Lily: Oh. Sorry.

Devon: It's okay.

Lily: Cane, what's up? I'm in the middle of -- what? Oh, my god.

Devon: What happened? What is it?

Cane: Lily, are you there? All right, listen to me. The ambulance has been called, okay? I need you to find Devon. I need you to meet us at memorial, okay?

Hilary: Neil, can you hear me? Neil?

Cane: Where is this ambulance?

Hilary: Please, Neil. Come on. Stay with me, baby. Stay with me.

[Siren wails in distance]

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Chelsea: I really don't feel like arguing about my dead husband on my son's birthday. Is that okay with you?

Christine: Shouldn't you be looking to your own husband at a time like this?

Jack: I want to make sure we've done all we can for Phyllis.

Dr. Burnett: I can assure you that's true.
