Episode # 10312 ~ Michael and Lauren turn to Summer for help with Fen; Paul and Victor clash over Nikki's secret.

Nick: Sorry. We're closed.
Avery: It's okay. I'm with the band.
Nikki: I went to bed last night, that pile was only half as high.
Victor: Oh.
Nikki: And, uh...
Victor: Well, maybe Santa came early.
Nikki: Yeah, I think maybe he did.
Victor: I-I just thought I'd make a few additions.
Nikki: You always do. Well, can you help me find a place for these, then?
Victor: You bet. Come here. Come here. Come here. Come here. What's in here? The bottom.
Nikki: You'll find out. Oh, my goodness. I guess we did go a little overboard.
Victor: Well, I think we had to make so many adjustments this year for our family and all that. I think we deserve all that. Don't you?
Nikki: Well, in spite of our losses and conflicts, I want my family to know that I'm thinking of them and that I love them and I want them to have joy in their lives again.
Victor: I'm very glad to hear you say that.
Nikki: Did you think I'd feel differently?
Victor: Well, I thought you might still be annoyed by the fact that I changed your will to make sure that Dylan McAvoy was cut out.
Nikki: No, that doesn't bother me anymore.
[Doorbell rings]
Victor: Why? Because you see the wisdom of my actions?
Nikki: Because I saw the wisdom in tearing those pages up, which I did. I officially made Dylan a member of my family.
Victor: What?
Abby: Can you state absolutely and unequivocally that you have never been to this café before?
Tyler: Well, I mean, I --
Abby: You're hesitating.
Tyler: Come on. You're asking me if I've ever patronized a trendy café surrounded by palm trees, Porsches, and pretty people eating things made out of avocado and kale. That describes just about every single eating establishment west of La Brea. You want to be a little bit more specific?
Abby: Oh, I intend to be. Have you, Tyler Michelson, ever popped down on one knee and proposed to a woman in this exact spot?
Tyler: Not this exact spot.
Abby: Good.
Tyler: But that table over there does look a little bit familiar.
[Chuckles]
Abby: [Chuckles]
Tyler: Abby Newman, I, Tyler Michaelson, do solemnly swear that I didn't even know this place existed until today. But now that I'm sitting here across the table from my incredibly fine girlfriend, I can assure you that this is a meal that I will never forget.
Abby: Perfect answer. Now smile!
[Camera shutter clicks]
[Chuckles]
Paul: So, where is he?
Summer: I don't know where Fen is. I swear. Okay, I'm worried about him, too.
Paul: Uh-huh. You know it's more than just a drug charge this time. He's wanted for murder. That's really interesting. You're not even surprised.
Summer: It's only because everyone knows that you're trying to find out who killed Carmine Basco.
Paul: What did he tell you about the murder?
Summer: I want to go home.
Paul: Summer, if you know more about this and you're not telling me right now, you can be charged as an accessory after the fact.
Summer: I-I didn't do anything!
Paul: Exactly. And by not doing anything, you're clearly trying to keep your friend out of prison. And that's grounds for arrest. How would you like to spend Christmas locked up in a 6x8-foot cell?
Lauren: I'm so sorry to bother you on the holiday... Tiffany. Um, I realize that you and Fen haven't been in touch for a while. But maybe you've seen him or someone you know has seen him, maybe someone has posted -- oh, okay. Well, if that happens -- thanks. If you hear anything, please contact me, okay.
Michael: You get any sleep?
Lauren: Oh. Just, uh, watching the clock, waiting for a decent time to start calling Fen's friends.
Michael: How far did you get?
Lauren: I got past his close friends, and I'm working on the whole senior class. Michael, where the hell is our son?
Michael: I don't know. But he's got to turn himself in soon. The longer the police are out there hunting for him, the more dangerous this gets.
Lauren: He doesn't even know that there's a warrant for his arrest. What if he sees police and he runs and -- okay. Okay. We're gonna find him, and you're gonna defend him, and we're gonna fight this charge. Oh, you know, he's been talking about running away for good.
Michael: We're gonna get him back.
Lauren: How?
Michael: I have a plan.
Summer: I don't know where Fen went. He didn't tell me.
Paul: Okay, so he didn't tell you where he went.
Summer: No.
Paul: But he told you something, something important. Now, what was it, Summer? Tell me.
Summer: Do I need a lawyer? Something -- I think I want to call my Aunt Avery.
Paul: You're free to go. Oh, but, Summer... you get a hold of me if you hear from Fen -- anything at all. It's for his own good.
[Cell phone rings]
Summer: Hello?
Michael: Summer, uh... uh, this is Michael. Lauren and I were wondering if you could come over.
Summer: Uh, why?
Michael: So we can talk.
Summer: Yeah, I don't -- I don't think I can. Uh, I have, you know, work stuff and Christmas is tomorrow and --
Michael: Summer, Fenmore’s life might be at stake. Will you come over, please?
Summer: Yeah, uh, okay. I'm on my way.
Michael: I believe this will work.
Lauren: It has to.
Tyler: You know, the observatory's even better at night. And 'tis the season. You know, we should add in some holiday flavor.
Abby: Yes. How do we do that? Do you think it's snowing in Santa Monica?
Tyler: No, but, uh, we could go down to the beach and go sand sledding.
Abby: Sand sledding? You made that up.
Tyler: [Chuckles] Okay I did. It doesn't mean we can't try anyway.
Abby: No, I am not onboard for that. I am taking a strict no-sand-sledding stance.
Tyler: Okay, well... there's an old revival movie house on Beverly that plays "Miracle on 34th Street" around this time of year.
Abby: Normally I would love that, but we're in L.A. let's do something outside while the sun is still shining.
Tyler: Okay, okay. Oh! Uh, how 'bout the Santa train at Griffith Park?
Abby: Ooh! That's Christmas-Y.
Tyler: No, it's actually kind of fun. When I went there with --
Abby: Thank you for at least not mentioning your ex-fiancée's name.
Tyler: Come on, Abby. It's hard not going to places that I've been with her. Come on. You lived here. There's no places that you shared with a special someone?
Abby: Well, in the interest of fairness, there is one place where I myself shared a very special moment or two.
Tyler: Okay, where is this?
Abby: I'm just saying that we should make sure that that place isn't on our list.
Tyler: All right. Done. Who was the guy?
Abby: His name was Alfalfa.
Tyler: Alfalfa.
Abby: Mm-hmm. And he had the most adorable beard and these big, brown eyes. We shared some very public, very heavy petting. It was intense.
Tyler: When was this?
Abby: I was 7.
Tyler: W-what?
Abby: It was a children's petting zoo! [Chuckling] He was a goat. I'm just saying, we need to make sure to cross that place off our list. It would be so awkward to run into him again.
Tyler: [Laughs]

[Keyboard clacking]
Victor: So... this is your doing.
Dylan: What did I walk in on?
Victor: Did you urge my wife to rip up the changes that I made to her will?
Nikki: Victor, no. He knows nothing about that.
Victor: Then why the hell is he here now?
Nikki: I decided to give Dylan the same status as my other children.
Victor: So are you here to get some advance inheritance? Is that it?
Dylan: I'm just here to talk to Mrs. Newman.
Victor: Really? And why the hell do you think I'll allow you to do that?
Nikki: Victor, I would like a few moments alone. I would like to speak to him, please.
Victor: You've caused a lot of trouble to my family, all right. Okay? I will only allow him to do this because I don't want you to be further upset, all right?
Nikki: All right.
Victor: And you...don't upset her now.
Dylan: I'll do my best, Sir. I don't want your money.
Nikki: I see.
Dylan: But there is something you can do for me.
Nick: My guitar that you got me for Christmas last year.
Avery: Yeah, it was at my place, and I thought you might like it back.
Nick: Yeah, I guess I should have, uh...
Avery: Called and asked for it?
Nick: Well, I thought about it, but I didn't know if...
Avery: Calling would be...
Both: Uncomfortable.
Avery: That's what I thought you thought. So here I am, and there it is.
Nick: [Chuckles]
Avery: And here we are. Uncomfortable is so much worse in person, isn't it?
Nick: Yeah.
Avery: I-I'll just --
Nick: Well, I'm really glad that you, uh, brought it by.
Avery: Are you?
Nick: I feel a little empty-handed. You know, I feel like I should be giving you back an easy bake oven.
Avery: Oh. Well, that would be impossible, because I've kept that particular present very close to me. You think I'd let that out of my sight? If you want my easy bake oven, you'll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.
Nick: As opposed to leaving this at your place and never learning how to play it.
Avery: You know what they say about rock-star dreams -- they never have to die.
Nick: But other dreams... you know, I, uh... I kind of have a lot to do.
Avery: Oh, yeah. I just saw that the light was on, and I-I thought...
Nick: Well, seeing you reminded me that I need to go and buy some cookies for Santa.
Avery: Oh, well, then its good I came by, then, because it isn't Christmas until you have the cookies.
Nick: Yeah.
Avery: Okay. I'll see you.
Nick: I'll see you.
Avery: Nick? How are you really doing?
Nick: I'm fine.
Avery: Oh. Well, then...
Nick: You're not buying that.
Avery: I'm not. You want to try again with the truth?
Nick: I've been going through hell. So is my whole family.
Avery: I know. I've been thinking about all of you and how awful this Christmas will be without Delia.
Nick: Well, I know firsthand how difficult it's gonna be for Billy and Victoria. You know, the tree and the ornaments and the putting together of the toys for the other kids. It all reminds you of the name that you won't be writing on the gift tag, the smiles you won't see.
Avery: And you're reliving this whole thing with them.
Nick: Well, it's not gonna be any easier for you. I mean... how's Phyllis doing?
Avery: [Sighs] Um, I keep calling the hospital, hoping, but, um...
Nick: Well, what are you gonna do for Christmas?
Avery: We haven't really made any plans.
Nick: I guess I don't need to ask who "We" is.
Dylan: You and I, um, since we...
Nikki: Go ahead. Whatever it is, j-just tell me.
Dylan: Okay. W-when I believed I was Connor’s father and he almost lost his sight, that was... it was really tough.
Nikki: Oh, I'm sure it was. We're devastated that we lost Delia, but at least Connor’s sight was saved.
Dylan: Yeah.
Nikki: So, um...you were saying?
Dylan: Yeah, what you probably don't know is that at first Chelsea and I thought Connor’s condition was hereditary.
Nikki: So you blamed yourself.
Dylan: At the time, I didn't know I wasn't Connor’s father. But it made me realize how important it is to know your family medical history.
Nikki: That's exactly why I sought you out in the first place.
Dylan: Is there something else I should know?
Nikki: Nothing pressing. Um, I-I have it all written down.
Dylan: Do you mind if I have it?
Nikki: No, not at all. I wrote it down for you. I can make you a copy right now if you want to wait.
Dylan: Yeah, sure. That'd be great.
Nikki: Okay.
Paul: Aren't you supposed to come down the chimney?
Victor: Since you were so personally involved in Nikki's search for her son... would you tell me what you uncovered?
Paul: There's nothing else to tell, Victor. Nikki was involved in every aspect of the investigation. Why don't you just ask her?
Victor: Ask her? I won’t. She has feelings of guilt in regard to that boy. So let me hear the facts.
Paul: You know them all. We found who we were looking for, and it was confirmed by the DNA test.
Victor: I want to know more than just the lab results okay? I want to know everything you've learned about Dylan McAvoy.
Paul: [Sighs] Nikki has all that information.
Victor: She is never gonna tell me. Trust me.
Summer: I just came from being grilled by Chief Williams, so I know what you guys want to hear.
Michael: What did you tell Paul?
Summer: I told him the only thing that I could tell him or you guys. I have no idea where Fen is.
Lauren: I understand why you would say that to the police.
Summer: Please don't do this to me, okay? Please.
Lauren: No, you're trying to protect him, and I get that. You are a loving and wonderful friend to him --
Summer: I really don't know where he is!
Lauren: We are not the police, Summer! We are his parents! Do you honestly think that we would willingly do anything to hurt him? Summer, please!
Michael: Lauren. Lauren. Lauren. Listen, we know Fenmore went to your birthday party.
Summer: Yeah, but it was a surprise birthday thing. I wasn't the one who sent out any of the invites.
Michael: But you were glad he was there.
Summer: Yeah, obviously I was excited to see Fen there. He looked good. But I don't understand how talking about my party will help at all.
Lauren: Because everything that you can tell us about that time helps us. You are probably the last person to see him before he disappeared.
Summer: I can't -- I can't do this.
Lauren: No, Summer. Please don't go.
Summer: Please, I cannot tell you anything, especially after what Chief Williams said to me.
Michael: What did Paul say to you?
Summer: J-just some stuff.
Michael: Did he threaten you?
Summer: More like a warning. He -- he said that I could possibly be arrested for helping Fen.
Michael: Oh. Here. Sit. Sit. Go on. What Paul did -- he used scare tactics to get you to talk.
Summer: Okay, so I-I can't really get in trouble?
Michael: Well, technically you can be charged.
Summer: A-and be thrown in jail over Christmas?
Michael: I would do everything legally possible to protect you in that case.
Summer: No, no. Please, Michael, I cannot go to jail, okay. I would lose my job. My mom -- what if my mom gets better and I'm in jail? Please. That cannot happen to me.
Michael: Well, you know, let's make sure it doesn’t. And the cleanest way to keep charges from being filed is for Fenmore to come home of his own volition.
Lauren: So can you help us do that, Summer? Can you help us get our son home? Summer, please.
Summer: I do know more.
Lauren: Tell us where our son is.
Summer: I-I really don't know where Fen is, but I... I-I know that Fen's guilty.
Michael: Why would you say that?
Summer: Because he told me that he pulled the trigger.
Nikki: Just when you thought I was never coming back, right?
Dylan: It did take a while. Is everything okay?
Nikki: Oh, yeah. Just printer problems, as usual. Now you have my complete family medical history.
Dylan: Thank you. May I?
Nikki: Yes, please. Of course. Read through it. If you have any questions, I'm happy to answer them.
Dylan: How are you feeling? With the M.S.?
Nikki: Well, that was my first concern when I got my diagnosis, was passing it down to my children, including you.
Dylan: Can you?
Nikki: Multiple sclerosis isn't necessarily hereditary, but you do have a slightly higher chance of being diagnosed with it, so you should let your doctor know that it is in your family medical history.
Dylan: That's, uh, not why I was asking, but thank you. I just wondered how you were doing.
Nikki: Oh. Oh, well, um... you know, w-with medication, I-it's under control.
Dylan: Yeah. You do that a lot?
Nikki: What?
Dylan: Put a good spin on things so other people don't have to worry.
Nikki: [Chuckles] Wow. Um... I have been accused of that...
Dylan: Yeah.
Nikki: ...Quite a few times. But, no, seriously, everything is good. I'm listening to my doctor and trying to avoid stress.
Dylan: Oh, you know what? I didn't even think about that. I hope me showing up didn't cause you any stress.
Nikki: No, no, no, no. You aren't stressful at all. I-I completely understand why you came, and I respect how you feel.
Dylan: Thank you.
Nikki: I don't want you to feel any pressure because of my condition. But it's hardly affected my life these days.
Dylan: You putting that good spin on things again?
Nikki: No. No spin. Would you like some hot chocolate? Or I have eggnog.
Dylan: Actually, I-I have another question.
Nikki: Oh, sure.
Dylan: Do you know anything about my biological father's medical history?
Nikki: No. No, um... I haven't seen Ian Ward since before you were born. He's probably dead, for all I know.
Dylan: I'm pretty sure he's alive and kicking.
Paul: I'm not gonna help you sabotage Nikki's attempt to get to know her son.
Victor: With all due respect, I think you owe me, Paul.
Paul: For what?
Victor: For insinuating yourself into a family situation and causing Nikki a lot of stress. You know damn well that she's struggling with M.S.
Paul: I honestly thought I was doing the right thing. And Nikki came to me first.
Victor: Instead of to me, her husband.
Paul: That was because of my position. I was with her. I was with her back then all those years ago in the commune.
Victor: Yes, you were. Why didn't you protect her?
Paul: [Sighs]
Avery: I'm not sure Dylan and I are an official "We."
Nick: Why aren't you sure?
Avery: Well, because we're -- we're just kind of taking things one day at a time. Uh, what about your Christmas plans? What are you doing, other than watching Faith's face when she opens up all these presents?
Nick: I'm, uh, just gonna be with my family.
Avery: Family?
Nick: Yeah, you know, after the lie about Summer came out, I'm just grateful to actually have some family to be able to spend the holidays with. And, Avery, I know you're a big part of that.
Avery: That was all Summer. Nick, she loves you.
Nick: I'm serious. The girl who I still consider to be my daughter, she almost cut me out of her life for good, but she didn’t. And I know that your forgiveness helped Summer get to that point. So just maybe give me a smile and say, "Thank You."
Avery: Thank you.
Nick: You know, I'm trying to be as straight up as possible from now until tomorrow 'cause I've got the whole naughty and nice list thing hanging over my head.
Avery: Oh, yeah. Well, since you're in that mode, uh...
Nick: Do you have something naughty to confess?
Avery: No, I just think that, you know, since Christmas is all about miracles, uh...
Nick: All right, what'd you do? Did you, uh, rear-end my car?
Avery: No. But I was hoping that for Christmas you could find it in your heart to make peace with Dylan.
Nikki: Why do you think Ian Ward is alive? Have you spoken to him? Have you seen him?
Dylan: Actually, I have very little information about the guy. It seems like he slid off the grid years ago.
Nikki: Well, yeah, that's what I thought, too, but --
Dylan: Avery did some research. No death certificate turned up. She hasn't found any records of him legally changing his name. I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to bring something up that would upset you.
Nikki: No, it's okay. Just, um... tell me what you found out.
Dylan: I found out what kind of man he was. [Sighs]
Nikki: I'm sorry.
Dylan: Since you, uh, hardly want to talk about this lowlife during the holidays, I'm -- I'm gonna take off.
Nikki: Oh, no, no. You -- you don't have to rush out of here.
Dylan: Thanks. I got -- I got what I came for. Thank you.
Nikki: Is there something else?
Dylan: Merry Christmas.
Nikki: Well, Merry Christmas, Dylan.
[Laughs]
Victor: You must have realized the cult leader was taking advantage of Nikki. Why didn't you try to stop him?
Paul: Don't you think I wish I had seen the signs? If I had known that scum was taking advantage of Nikki, I would have stepped in and handled it. But I couldn't fix something I didn't now was going on. And you weren't around to run to the rescue, either. So what we have to do now is try and be there for Nikki, give her understanding and support.
Victor: Listen, I'm trying everything in my power to make sure that she doesn't have additional upset. She's struggling with M.S.
Paul: That's exactly why I went with Nikki to help her find her son. She was making herself sick, Victor. She was agonizing over the decision. She was wondering how you would accept it, how the family would accept it. Not to mention the kid she was hoping to find.
Victor: Okay. Thanks, old boy. Um... do me a favor and just stay out of it from now, okay?
Michael: What Fenmore said to you makes it even more urgent that we find him.
Summer: Because of Carmine's murder.
Lauren: We cannot risk you being questioned again.
Michael: He must have said something to you about where he was going.
Summer: He mentioned New York.
Michael: New York.
Lauren: Okay, good, good, good. Yeah, I have lots of friends.
Summer: Look, New York is the one place I'm sure Fen isn’t.
Lauren: I don't understand.
Summer: Fen wants you guys to go search New York so he can find someplace else to lie low.
Lauren: All right, so where is he?
Summer: I really don't -- I don't know. Okay, I'm sorry. I have to go.
Michael: Oh, no. No, no. No, Summer... listen to me. There's another way you can help save Fenmore.
Lauren: Only if you can help us pull this off.
Michael: We realize we're asking a lot, and if there were any way we could do this without involving you --
Summer: Please. Okay, there has to be something else. When he was running away after the Jamie thing, I was the one who tricked him into coming home. Please, I can't do that to him again.
Lauren: Okay, Sweetheart. I know you're just being a good friend to him. We get that.
Michael: He convinced you. He convinced you that the only way to help him was to let him run. We know that.
Lauren: We even considered that ourselves for a brief moment.
Summer: Then why did you change your mind?
Michael: Bottom line, Fenmore's gonna get caught. He may be a clever kid, but he does not have the resources to avoid the authorities.
Summer: Okay. And if he comes home?
Michael: Either way, he's back in custody. But if he turns himself in, there's less of a chance that he gets hurt or killed in the process. I mean, he won't face additional charges. Listen, I know I can build a strong defense for him in court.
Lauren: Look, Sweetheart... [Voice breaking] I'm terrified for my child. He's out there all by himself. He can't even go to an N.A. meeting because if he runs into a police officer, what would he do? With all that pressure and being by himself, he could go back to drugs.
Michael: Not to mention all the other things a kid on the street has to deal with.
Lauren: Please, if you care about him, please help us.
Summer: Fen? It's Summer. Um... you're gonna hate what I'm about to say.
Abby: And that drive up the pacific coast highway.
Tyler: That was spectacular.
Abby: How are we gonna top that?
Tyler: Well, I'll tell you what. I can think of a few things.
Abby: [Chuckles] I love that idea, but we're all sandy.
Tyler: Oh, well, getting clean can be fun.
Abby: And I have to go run out and grab something.
Tyler: Okay, we'll have it delivered. Come on.
Abby: How can I get it delivered when I have no idea what it is yet? Hmm?
Tyler: What the...
Abby: I just -- I want to get something for the room that, despite the fact that there's not cold or snow, that it's Christmas Eve.
Tyler: How about we sing some Christmas carols while I wash your back?
Abby: [Laughs] Tyler.
Tyler: And I think I saw a sprig of mistletoe hanging over that Jacuzzi tub in there.
Abby: Mm. [Chuckles]
Avery: You don't look like you've been out singing "Joy to the World."
Dylan: You don't look too jolly yourself.
Avery: I saw Nick.
Dylan: You ran into him?
Avery: No, on purpose. Just some unfinished business. I needed to return something to him.
Dylan: And what'd he have to say?
Avery: Nothing bad. You know, it was a little tense, but, um, I think it was for the best.
Dylan: [ Sighs]
Avery: What is that?
Dylan: This is, uh, Nikki's medical report.
Avery: Really? How did you get that?
Dylan: I went to see her. I guess my mother and I had some unfinished business, too.
Avery: You just called Nikki your mother. Maybe that business isn't so unfinished, after all.
Abby: Why don't you go jump in the shower?
Tyler: Alone?
Abby: I'm gonna go get us some holiday gewgaws that are way better than your imagined mistletoe.
Tyler: Hmm.
Abby: [Laughs]
Tyler: All right. Whatever makes you happy.
Abby: You and I will make each other happy in the Jacuzzi. Later. I promise.
Tyler: [Sighs]
Fenmore: [Panting] I nearly lost my mind when I got your message. I-I -- thank you for the call, Summer, but why did they send my dad back to prison? What happened? What's going on? Answer -- Summer --
Lauren: Fen. Oh, thank God you're okay.
Fenmore: Mom? Dad, you aren't locked up? I-I thought --
Michael: My client's here to turn himself in.
Paul: Fenmore Baldwin, you are under arrest for the murder of Carmine Basco. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, one will be appointed for you. Do you understand your rights as I read them?
[Chord plays]
Nick: [Sighs]
[Chuckles]
Dylan: Nikki may be my biological mother, but she'll never be my mom.
Avery: So nothing's changed.
Dylan: Can we just talk about something else?
Avery: Yes, we can. We can talk about the other elephant in the room, Christmas.
Dylan: Christmas.
Avery: Christmas, Dylan. Its tomorrow, and we've made no plans.
Dylan: It's my fault. My life has just been so crazy lately. I just...
Avery: I know that. But any thoughts?
Dylan: Uh, how about after I close the coffeehouse tomorrow night, we get together and we celebrate? You know what? I better run out and get your gift before all the other procrastinating shoppers get all the good stuff.
Avery: Oh, you know what? I know what I want for my gift.
Dylan: T-that's great. Where do I -- where do I buy that?
Avery: Right here.
Dylan: You want coffee?
Avery: No.
Dylan: Donuts? Pastry? Muffins? Cookies?
Avery: Dylan, what I want... I want you to close this place for the whole day tomorrow so we can spend it together.
Dylan: The entire day?
Avery: Yes, the entire day.
Dylan: [Grunts]
Avery: I'll make a turkey, and I'll bake some pies, and we'll play Bing Crosby, your favorite, and we'll make a fire, and --
Dylan: You don't have a fireplace.
Avery: We'll light candles! Look, I know that it's not the same as a big family crazy gathering.
