Nick: Hey.
Sharon: Hey.
Nick: So, is Faith ready for the big art show at school?
Sharon: Well, she insisted on getting herself dressed, even with that big cast on her arm, so...
Nick: She didn't want help? The cast is bigger than the tree she fell out of.
Sharon: But she's been so brave. She wanted to do it. We have to let her.
Nick: Something tells me this is gonna be longer than the actual event.
Sharon: Hey, speaking of events, how was that Veterans day event you went to?
Nick: Oh, it was good. You know, Mom -- Mom raised a lot of money. People dug deep.
Sharon: And?
Nick: And what?
Sharon: That look on your face -- I can tell something else happened. What is it?
Nick: Well, Dylan showed up...
Sharon: [Gasps]
Nick: ...With Avery.
Leslie: It was completely unacceptable. I'm just thankful we don't have to go to court with this one. So, um, we're agreed? I'll file a motion for summary judgment in the Turkey vs. Pilgrim case?
Avery: Oh, that sounds good. Wait. What?
Leslie: I am just trying to gauge where your head is.
Avery: Obviously, you've guessed it's not on business.
Leslie: You're back at the benefit the other day -- the reaction you and Dylan got when you walked in?
Avery: Actually, it's what happened after the benefit that I can't stop thinking about. Dylan kissed me.
Dylan: Morning.
Chelsea: Hi. How are you?
Dylan: Uh, I'm okay. You?
Chelsea: Good. Oh, my maternity leave's almost over. I'll be going back to work full-time soon.
Dylan: Man, I can't -- I can't believe how big he is. It's --
Chelsea: I know. He's outgrown almost all of the clothes we bought him. Oh. Oh.
Dylan: Be careful there, Buddy.
Connor: [Coos]
Dylan: Is this --
Chelsea: You got it for him the day after he was born. Remember? He used to snuggle with it the second we'd put him down? It's still his favorite toy.
Dylan: I bet Adam loves that.
Chelsea: He hasn't mentioned it.
Dylan: He's probably too busy threatening to sue you for full custody.
Chelsea: Not anymore. He agreed that it would be best for Connor if we both raised him.
Dylan: Well, that's great. Looks like moving in did the trick -- placated the guy. Now you can get the hell out of there.
Chelsea: I could... but I decided to stay.
Adam: [Exhales sharply]
Kelly: Why bother? That's all I can think about. Why bother getting up? Why bother getting dressed? I didn't even want to come here. I-I mean, I'm sure you're all lovely people, but... to hell with this. That's what I'm thinking. I promised my friend Sarah that I would come here. She thinks that I need to talk about this. So, here I am, talking.
Therapist: What would you like us to know about your son?
Kelly: Well, um... he is... [Voice breaking] Was... this happens every time. It's like if I say it, he... Sam. His name was Sam. And he was 7 years old when he... when we lost him.
Billy: 7, just like Delia.
Therapist: Billy, you had a similar loss recently. Do you have anything you want to add?
Billy: [Clears throat]
Dylan: I don't get it. I thought you wanted to get away from Adam.
Chelsea: Things changed.
Dylan: Uh [Chuckles] You're not falling for him again?
Chelsea: No. No. Absolutely not.
Dylan: I mean, is he holding something else over your head?
Chelsea: No, this was all me, Dylan. I just didn't think it would be right to uproot Connor after his surgery and everything.
Dylan: That makes sense, I guess.
Chelsea: You guess?
Dylan: Well, it's just a figure of speech. I know you would only do what's best for your son.
Chelsea: Well, enough about me. How are you doing?
Connor: [Crying]
Chelsea: I thought about you on Veterans Day. I figured it must have brought up some memories.
Dylan: It was a little tough at first, but... it turned out all right, thanks to a friend.
Avery: I went with him because I thought he needed a friend, and then, after, we got to talking, and it just -- Dylan kissed me out of the blue.
Leslie: Oh, Honey, that's about as out of the blue as Lady Gaga in a new wig. Didn't I tell you this was coming? And, really, I couldn't be happier for you.
Avery: Happy?
Leslie: Seriously, this is wonderful news.
Avery: Really? How could I even think about a relationship with Dylan, knowing what I know? I'm keeping from him that he's Nikki's son.
Leslie: Only because you're bound by attorney-client privilege.
Avery: That does not make me feel any better about the situation, and especially seeing them together at this benefit. And, if things couldn't get any worse, Nick was there. He and Dylan are brothers. Do you know what that would do to them if they found that out?
Leslie: Just as long as you're not the one to tell them.
Avery: Why am I the one keeping this huge secret while they're walking around clueless about this? Why am I the one put in this situation?
Sharon: What did you do when you saw them together?
Nick: Nothing. I mean, I got to get over it.
Sharon: Just like that, huh?
Nick: Yep. Piece of cake.
Sharon: Oh. I wish your father could get over things just like that.
Nick: Is he still giving you a hard time?
Sharon: Nick, its fine. I can handle Victor.
Nick: What did he do?
Sharon: [Chuckles] Okay. He accused me of getting locked in the freezer with you on purpose so I could be close to you.
Nick: Are you kidding? That was my fault. He should be glad we didn't die from hypothermia.
Sharon: That's what I told him.
Nick: I hope you told him to go to hell.
Sharon: I didn't have a chance to. The conversation ended.
Nick: Why? Did he walk away?
Sharon: No. Someone else came to my defense.
Nick: Who?
Sharon: Adam.
Nick: Sharon, that's like jumping from the fire to Armageddon. Look, you don't need Adam in your life anymore. He destroyed you last time. He destroys anyone and anything he touches.
Billy: God.
Victoria: Billy?
Billy: Uh... yeah. Um... I'm not really... no.
Victoria: If I may, I'd like to say a few words.
Therapist: Of course.
Victoria: I'm Billy's wife, Victoria... Dee Dee's stepmom. You guys might have heard about her death on the news. She was killed by a hit-and-run driver.
Kelly: I did read about that. I'm so sorry.
Victoria: Thank you. She was starring as the wicked witch of the west in her school play. Billy was bringing her home. I called Billy and asked him to pick up some ice cream, and that's when it happened. You know, as far as we can figure, Dee Dee's dog got away and she just chased after him, and, I mean, Billy told her to stay in the car and that he would be right back, and he was -- he came right back -- but, I mean, if I hadn't have picked up the phone and... he wouldn't have stopped, you know? And he wouldn't have left Dee Dee in the car by herself, and things would be different now.
Billy: It's not your fault.
Victoria: Well, it's not your fault, either.
Therapist: Delia made a split-second decision, and fate intervened.
Victoria: I know, and now we're supposed to just go on with our lives like normal. I-I get that. We have two little sons at home that remind us of that. But how are we supposed to get through every day? And the nights -- the nights are harder, you know? So, please, if you have any advice -- anybody here has any advice -- please help us.
Billy: [Sighs]
Sharon: There were some dark days, but I'm seeing things more clearly now, especially where Adam's concerned, and I really can't blame everything on him.
Nick: Why not? The guy lives to make trouble.
Sharon: I had my part in our breakup, so I want to take responsibility for that.
Nick: I'm sure Adam's only too happy to hear where you went wrong.
Sharon: Adam's a father now. That changed everything for him. And you know what having a family can mean to a person.
Nick: I sure do. Like take this little heartbreaker right here. I mean, are we lucky or what? [Smooching, snorting] [Laughs]
Kelly: It's almost been a year, and as the anniversary gets closer and closer, so much keeps coming back to me -- the phone ringing, voice on the other end telling me that my s-son had been hit by a car... that his bicycle had been thrown 15 feet. They said that Sam was in the driver's blind spot. There's no drugs or alcohol in the driver's system, so he just walked away. But for me, I needed someone to blame, and so did Dean, my husband, so we just ended up blaming each other.
Therapist: That's very common when a child dies.
Kelly: Dean and I have been divorced about two months. I met him in high school. I thought I'd be with Dean for the rest of my life. And I thought that I would have Sam for the rest of my life. But the thing that I can't get past, that keeps me up at night -- I'm paying for the mistakes that I made with Dean. But who's paying for Sam? [Sniffles]
Kevin: I was literally just about to get a bag of chips or head across the street to the Pigsty. Thanks. What's the occasion?
Chloe: Well, I was thinking, you know, we said that we'd do this mutual-support thing, so I'm just trying to hold up my end of the bargain.
Kevin: Well, I hope your end of the bargain includes you joining me.
Chloe: Yeah. That's why I got enough for two.
Kevin: Great. Okay. Whoops.
Chloe: Oh. Well, I hope those weren't too important.
Kevin: Uh, no. It's just some stuff that needs to get filed.
Chloe: Um, does it have anything to do with, you know, the investigation?
Kevin: Oh, hey, did you pack any salt? You know me. I have to have salt.
Chloe: Yeah, I do know you, and that is Kevin speak for "We've hit a dead end."
Kevin: There's no evidence that any of those vehicles were involved in a hit-and-run. But that does not mean we're giving up. We're just gonna expand the parameters of our search, think outside the box.
Chloe: Right.
Kevin: Chloe, listen to me. We are gonna find the sociopath who did this, and when we do, he's gonna answer for what he's done, okay?
Chloe: Hey, did I, uh -- did I show you those pictures of -- of Connor? Look at him. Look at him! Isn't he such a cutie? And look -- he's staring right at the camera. I mean, look at him! I mean, it's because of Delia. I mean, but those eyes? I mean, God, he's gonna be a fighter pilot or a diamond cutter -- something.
Kevin: Hmm. When did you take these?
Chloe: Um, a couple days ago.
Kevin: So, Chelsea's working from home to be around Connor?
Chloe: Yeah, yeah, but I don't -- I don't really mind.
Kevin: Are you sure about that? Hey, you don't have to put on a front for me. I would think it would be kind of difficult for you to be around Connor.
Chelsea: He's pretty worn out. I think he'll sleep for a while. You might want to consider taking a nap, too. You look really tired. Were you up again all night?
Adam: Nothing a couple cups of coffee won't fix. Don't worry about me.
Chelsea: I do worry about you, but I worry about everyone these days -- you and Connor... Billy and Chloe. Any new leads on the hit-and-run driver?
Adam: I haven't heard anything.
Chelsea: Oh, God. Every minute that passes is a minute that that guy is out there running free, Adam!
Adam: I know. You keep reminding me.
Chelsea: Well, you need to remind your contacts! I mean, light a fire under these people!
Adam: I'm doing what I can, Chelsea.
Chelsea: This guy is out there! Every single day, he could be getting further and further away, leaving Delia's death unpunished. Can you imagine being her parents going through this right now?
Adam: Look, enough, okay? Stop. Enough. I get it, all right? I got it. Billy and Chloe are devastated. You and the rest of the world -- they want a break in the case, and bothering me every five minutes about this isn't gonna make anything else happen, okay? Enough, please! [Sighs]
Nick: Where did you learn to draw like that? When I was your age, I could barely draw stick figures.
Sharon: Daddy still draws stick figures.
Nick: Your mommy thinks she's a comedian. She's not.
Faith: Can we order now?
Nick: You know, are you sure you want to stay here? I thought you wanted to hit that cupcake spot that you like so much.
Sharon: Oh, you know what? We could still go. It's right around the corner.
Faith: I want one of Dylan's super frosted pumpkin cookies.
Dylan: Well, you've come to the right place, Faith.
Leslie: You're just gonna give up on Dylan because you know who his bio mother is and he doesn't?
Avery: Well, Chelsea kept a secret from him, and look how that turned out.
Leslie: Yeah, no. It's not the same.
Avery: Of course it is.
Leslie: No. Chelsea lied by choice and -- and for selfish reasons. You want to tell the truth, but you're bound by the law to withhold it. Dylan would understand.
Avery: Would he? I'm not so sure about that. I'm not so sure. I hurt him so much once before. I can't do that to him again.
Leslie: Well, you know what? Maybe you won't have to. Maybe Nikki will let you off the hook and come clean with the guy. I mean, I did my best to talk her into it.
Avery: You what? You're not even supposed to know about this, and you wouldn't if you hadn't picked up the wrong file. Why would you get into it with Nikki?
Leslie: Because I know the worst thing for Nikki and her family is to keep it all inside.
Avery: [Sighs]
Victoria: Do you want something to eat?
Billy: No, I'm good. Thanks.
Victoria: That was an interesting story that Hank told, don't you think -- about continuing his daughter's tradition of PBJ and pancakes on Sunday?
Billy: Whatever helps, I guess.
Victoria: I know it wasn't easy for you, sitting through that... but I can't tell you how incredibly brave I think you are.
Billy: Nah. You're the brave one, speaking like you did. I couldn't, uh -- couldn't do that.
Victoria: You know there's no timetable with this, right? I'm just really glad you went.
Billy: I'll keep going. I'm gonna try to stay more open.
Victoria: Well, as long as you're open with me, then I think the rest will come.
Chelsea: I'm sorry. I don't mean to ride you about this. It's just that there's so much at stake.
Adam: No, no, no. I'm the one who should be sorry. I just -- it's just been pretty rough, and things are just really getting to me, so...
Chelsea: Well, you can relate now. I mean, you have a child. You worry about his future.
Adam: Delia has no future. Why is that? I want answers. I'm looking for answers. I can't find anything. Why -- why didn't Billy just have her by his side -- just didn't let her out of his sight? Why didn't she sit in the car with the doors locked, with the windows up? Why would she leave the car and go out into the street in the middle of the night, in pitch black? I just don't -- none of this -- none of this had to happen. It was just -- it was just... she shouldn't be dead. She shouldn't be dead.
Chelsea: No. She shouldn't be. But now all we can do is stay strong and fight to get justice for her.
Adam: There's not justice, Chelsea.
Chelsea: Yes, Adam, there can be and there will be.
Adam: You don't understand.
Chelsea: What don't I understand? Tell me, Adam. Just say it. What's the worst that could happen?
Adam: You're right. You're exactly right. What is the worst that could happen? And that's what I'm thinking about. These questions about Delia I have -- they go far beyond that.
Chelsea: To what?
Adam: I just realize that life is so fragile. Everything can be gone just [Snaps fingers] Like that. I find myself constantly worrying about Connor -- just worried about everything. I just want to protect him from everything, and I realize I can't protect him from everything.
Chelsea: Oh, Adam, you're not alone in that. I think about that all the time.
Adam: You do?
Chelsea: Of course I do. But you don't have to go through that alone anymore. Parents worry about their kids. All we can do is try our best and do it together.
Chloe: It's not like that at all, actually. I can handle being around Connor.
Kevin: You can say that all you want, but I would think being around him, looking into his eyes -- that it would remind you of Delia.
Chloe: It reminds me that her death wasn't in total vein.
Kevin: I just -- I just think it would be great if you saved your energy and took care of yourself and weren't so concerned about accommodating Chelsea.
Chloe: I just don't think that she's ready to leave Connor yet.
Kevin: Okay. So, what if you told her that you wanted to work separately for a while -- that you needed a break from the baby?
Chloe: Because I can't, okay? I can't, and if I tell her that, then she's gonna tell me that I need to take more time off, and I can't because I need to keep on working. Okay? I need it like you need it.
Kevin: How much longer does she plan on being around Connor 24/7?
Chloe: Don't know. I can't blame her for being protective. I wish I was more protective.
Kevin: Chloe...
Chloe: Well, I... I...don't even remember -- I don't know. Did I even hug her? I-I barely hugged her when I said goodbye. I mean, I-I-I kissed her, and I just ran off, and I left her here with Billy. I don't even remember saying, "I love you."
Kevin: I know that you did. It's the last thing you said to her. Listen to me. You were the greatest mom to Delia. I mean, you were like a mother lion. God help anyone that even looked at her the wrong way. But even the most devoted, fierce parent cannot control every second of every day of their kid's life. You did not do anything wrong, so please stop beating yourself up about it and focus on all of the things that you did right, okay? Delia never once doubted for a second that she had the greatest mom in the world, so you shouldn't, either, okay?
Leslie: If Nikki wants to be a good mother, if she wants to have a real relationship with Dylan, she's got to be honest with him.
Avery: Okay. Regardless, it's not your place to tell her.
Leslie: Maybe -- maybe it wasn't. Maybe I should have kept my big mouth shut. But, Avery, it drives me nuts when I see people keeping secrets from each other. You know what it did to my family. You know Tyler and I lost our mother, our father, our whole past because of all the lies, and none of it needed to happen, and that's exactly what I told Nikki. A-and before you go off on me again, I think my talk may have done some good.
Avery: Really?
Leslie: Yes. She seemed to listen. And if you reinforce it with her, I think Nikki may be motivated to spill.
Avery: Okay, it's not about being motivated. She's scared. She's scared about how Dylan is gonna react. She's scared about how Victor's gonna react.
Leslie: Victor?
Avery: Yeah, there's already some tension between those two.
Leslie: All the more reason for Nikki to open up. The longer she waits, the more hurt everyone will be when it finally comes out.
Dylan: One super frosted pumpkin cookie.
Sharon: And three hot chocolates.
Dylan: I have to admit, I was a little surprised to see Nick here.
Sharon: Faith's choice.
Dylan: Yeah. Two out of three happy customers ain't bad.
Sharon: Hey, I heard that you ended up going to the Veterans Day benefit. That couldn't have been easy.
Dylan: Actually, I was -- I was glad that I went. You know, it was important for me to be there -- you know, for the other guys. And -- and the night ended on a real positive note.
Sharon: That's good to hear. I'm happy for you.
Dylan: And thanks again for your contribution in Sully's name. It means a lot. I still wish there was something I could do for you in return.
Sharon: No, no. That money is a gift, and there's no strings attached.
Nick: Sweetheart, I'm sorry. I know you really wanted a dollhouse, but Christmas is right around the corner. Sometimes in life, we have to wait for what we want.
Victoria: So... what do you think of those suggestions that Nancy gave us?
Billy: About sharing memories?
Victoria: And journaling about Dee Dee.
Billy: I don't know if I'm up for any extensive writing at the moment, but I do get the point. We have to communicate what we're thinking about, yes.
Victoria: And I'm here to listen, okay? It doesn't matter what you're feeling -- feeling sad or angry or sentimental. It's all good -- not that we have to spend every minute of the day talking about this, you know?
Billy: Well, that is a relief, because even someone as charming and fascinating as I am -- well, I can't bring it full force all the time.
Victoria: You know, I like the idea of getting back into an old routine -- doing something with family and friends, something that reminds you that there's a reason to go on.
Billy: I have two really great reasons. I just haven't shown it to you and Johnny in a while. I'm sorry. You know, without you two, I don't think I could --
Victoria: No, listen. There is no "Without us."
Billy: You sure about that? Even if I, uh... what if I --
Victoria: No. I'm never gonna change my mind. You're stuck with me.
Billy: Well, maybe there is hope after all, huh?
Nick: You know you're supposed to -- to eat that, not wear it, right?
Sharon: Think we need more napkins.
Faith: I'll get them.
Sharon: Okay. Thank you.
Nick: For what?
Sharon: For putting yourself out for Faith. She has no idea how badly you don't want to be here right now.
Nick: Hey, I'm letting it go. At least, I'm trying to.
Dylan: Guess you really like those cookies, huh?
Faith: Yeah, but I would be more thankful for a new dollhouse even more.
Nick: [Speaks indistinctly]
Sharon: [Speaks indistinctly]
Nick: [Growling]
Avery: Hello.
Sharon: Hi, Avery.
Nick: Dylan's in the office, if you're looking for him.
Avery: Uh, actually, I had a craving for a frosted pumpkin cookie.
Sharon: Ah. So did Faith.
Avery: Great minds think alike, huh? Okay. Uh, enjoy your time.
Dylan: Hey.
Avery: Hi.
Dylan: Hi. I didn't, uh, expect to see you here today.
Avery: Oh, I bet I'm not the only one you weren't expecting.
Dylan: Yeah. I guess we're gonna have to get used to that. You know what? There's -- there's something that I have to show you.
Avery: What? What is it?
Dylan: You know what? On second thought, maybe, uh -- maybe I'll hold off.
Avery: Why? You're just gonna leave me hanging?
Dylan: Yeah. Yeah. But don't even begin to think that it's maybe a ploy on my part to get you to spend more time here.
Avery: [Sighs]
Chelsea: Look. Connor's smiling in his sleep.
Adam: It must be nice.
Chelsea: I'm so glad that he's not old enough to know what's going on right now. [Sighs] Victoria said that even Johnny's having nightmares. I mean, he's too young to understand that he's lost his sister, but, still, I guess he's sensing all the grief around him.
Adam: I'm truly sorry to hear that.
Chelsea: I wish we could help him. I wish we could help all of them -- ease their pain... and Delia's.
Adam: Delia?
Chelsea: Well, I can't imagine how that sweet little girl can rest in peace when the person who left her to die is still out there somewhere.
Billy: [Coughs]
Victoria: Would you like some more coffee?
Billy: Uh, yeah. If it's decaf, you read my mind. Thank you.
Victoria: Oh. Well, you know, it wasn't too tough in this case. [Sighs]
Billy: You know, Dee Dee always said that I could read her mind. But that wasn't too tough because she would always leave a picture or a note about what she wanted laying around the house.
Victoria: Do you remember last Christmas? She started leaving hints in, like, what, September?
Billy: Ah, yes. I got one under my pillow in August.
Victoria: I remember every time you put your head down on the pillow, it made this crunching noise. [Chuckles]
Billy: Yeah. I finally reached underneath, and I found a bicycle catalog. That's my girl.
Victoria: Do you remember the time that I opened the refrigerator and I found the little picture of the play kitchen taped to the curried chick peas that I made?
Billy: You weren't quite sure if she really wanted a play kitchen or if she was just making a comment about your cooking. [Chuckles]
Victoria: Yeah. [Chuckles] [Sighs]
Billy: No pictures this year.
Victoria: Maybe we can put up our own pictures... like a testament to her. We can go through the magazines and see what she might like. I mean, you know... if you can handle it.
Billy: You think you can handle it?
Victoria: If I have you, I can handle anything.
Avery: No. It went into arbitration, and I think that's a good thing. Uh-huh. I'll be in touch. That looks like plans for a building.
Dylan: Yeah, it is. I was looking for a way to repay an act of kindness, and I found it.
Sharon: I don't know. Another hot chocolate? I think one's enough, Honey.
Nick: I just had a similar conversation with Faith -- didn't I? -- About how sometimes in life, it doesn't always work out the way we hoped.
Avery: So, somebody does you a favor and you're paying him back by building him a house?
Dylan: It's a "Her," and yeah.
Avery: Is it me? Are you building me a house? 'Cause if you are, I want, you know, an open floor plan. I want a big kitchen in the middle.
Dylan: No, it's -- it's not you. But you just say the word, and I'll build you whatever you want -- two-story colonial, a log cabin.
Avery: Taj Mahal.
Dylan: Labor of love, huh?
Avery: Um, you know, I'm just glad that you're using your sketchbook again. Is this what you wanted to tell me -- that you're getting back into architecture?
Dylan: On a small scale -- very small scale. It's a dollhouse for Faith.
Avery: Faith?
Dylan: Yeah. But don't say anything. It's -- it's a surprise.
Avery: Mm. And you haven't told Nick that you're making a gift for his daughter?
Dylan: No. I'm just trying to do something nice for her. No harm in that.
Victoria: So, you know, Johnny won't be home from his playdate for a few hours, so it'll be nice and quiet. It'll be perfect for you to be able to get some rest.
Billy: Yeah. I don't know if I'll be able to sleep, though.
Victoria: You could just come upstairs and hold me. You know? I've missed that. I've missed you.
Billy: I miss you, too. [Sighs] Um... Honey, I got to take care of a few things. I'll be right up.
Victoria: Okay.
Kevin: Well, thanks for lunch.
Chloe: Thanks for the talk.
Kevin: Did it help?
Chloe: Yeah, it really did. It always does. You always know what to say.
Kevin: Ha! I think you are the only person on earth who thinks that.
Chloe: Oh. Well, then, the rest of the world is missing out.
Kevin: I'll catch you later.
Chloe: Counting on it.
Kevin: Okay.
Chloe: Oh. Bye.
Kevin: Bye.
Chelsea: Chloe, hi.
Chloe: Chelsea, uh, hi. So, I wanted to know if you were available to get some work done. I could come by or --
Chelsea: Why don't Connor and I meet you at the office?
Chloe: Okay. See you soon.
Chelsea: Bye. You need anything while we're out?
Adam: No. Just make sure you drive safe.
Chelsea: You know I will. Please try to get some sleep. It'll help.
Adam: Sure.
Billy: [Sighs]
Billy: "Maybe the person is paying." Like hell he is. But he's going to.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Victoria: My dad was right.
Billy: Your dad was right about what?
Nikki: It's time for everybody to know that I'm Dylan's mother.
Nick: I want you to stay the hell away from me and my family.
