Episode # 10045 ~ Avery Offers Nick a Place to Buy; Sharon Distances Herself From Adam

Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma

Adam: So what'd I do this time, Chelsea? Huh? You afraid that I went to go see Sharon? Because I didn't.

Chelsea: You don't have to see her to be thinking about her, Adam.

Adam: You know, interestingly enough, the only person that I'm thinking of right now is you.

Chelsea: Stop it! I don't buy any of this anymore. I don't!

Adam: She... is... a friend.

Chelsea: You don't have any friends.

Adam: Wow. Wow.

Chelsea: It's not who you are. So for you to be this interested in Sharon and everything that she does--

Adam: You know what? I can't win with you. It is lose-lose for me no matter what I do. Do you realize that? I can be with Sharon, and I'm unfaithful. I can be away from Sharon, and I'm unfaithful. Chelsea, Baby, you gotta help me out here. I don't know what to do. Tell me what I have to say or do that gets you to believe the words that are coming out of my mouth.

Chelsea: Never see Sharon again.

Dr. Watkins: You made it sound so urgent on the phone.

Sharon: It is. It is.

Dr. Watkins: You said you were fearful of losing it?

Sharon: I'm feeling the same.

Dr. Watkins: As what?

Sharon: I'm feeling the same as the night I set the fire.

Avery: Oh, yeah.

Nick: (Groans)

[Cell phone rings]

Avery: Hello.

Nick: Hey, how do you, uh, un-burn a microwave dinner?

Avery: (Sighs) Newman, you are hopeless in the kitchen. But you're good in other rooms, so I'm going to help you with this. Find your car key.

Nick: Um, yeah. What's that gonna do?

Avery: Just do as the chef tells you.

Nick: Got it. What's up now?

Avery: Now... you get in your car and you drive over to my place. I have beef bourguignon on the stove, and a glass of wine with your name on it.

Adam: A bit extreme, don't you think?

Chelsea: For a husband to promise to stay away from his ex? No. Extreme is hiring an arsonist to start a couple of fires to cover for the fact that Sharon burned down your father's house! That's extreme!

Adam: You know what?

Chelsea: Who goes to those lengths for a friend, Adam?

Adam: Just stop for a second! Stop for a second and think about this! What am I supposed to do? Am I supposed to stand idly by and just let Sharon rot away in prison or a psych ward the rest of her life? You tell me, Chelsea. What would you do in a situation like this? Wouldn't you help somebody out?

Chelsea: Yeah, since when did you become such a humanitarian, Adam?

Adam: Since I married you! I have become a better man. I am proud of myself, and I am sick and tired of this town telling me my mother would be disappointed in me, because what I am doing now my mother would be very proud of.

Chelsea: Really? Cheating on your wife would make your mother proud?

Adam: I haven't cheated on you!

Chelsea: Yes, you have! In your head and in your heart! And that is almost worse! (Breathing heavily)

Adam: Chelsea, I am... I'm fighting-- fighting for you. But if you can't look at this thing rationally, then we have no hope.

Chelsea: Where are you going? To her?

(Front door slams)

Chelsea: (Sniffles) (Sighs)

Victoria: (Sighs)

Billy: Hey. You're home.

Victoria: You're wet.

Billy: Yeah, you know that, uh, leak comin' from the showerhead? Well, um...

Victoria: Oh, please don't tell me it's a big leak.

Billy: It depends on your definition of "Big."

Victoria: Billy.

Billy: Niagara Falls. But it's very pretty, and if you look close, you can see a rainbow in the spray.

Victoria: (Scoffs) Why can't you just leave well enough alone?

Billy: I'm just trying to help out around here, make things nice for you.

Victoria: (Sighs) Right. Right, right, right. Right. I'll call a plumber.

Phyllis: All right, I'm checking out.

Jack: Well, I hope you enjoyed your stay at the Abbott inn.

Kyle: So you're bailin' after all, huh?

Phyllis: (Chuckles)

Kyle: I thought I changed your mind.

Jack: Wait, you wanted her to stay?

Kyle: Yeah, I still do. What do I gotta do to make it happen?

Phyllis: (Sighs)

Adam: Just what I need-- a ghost of Newman past. Why don't you go haunt someone else, Dad?

Victor: I can do that, but then you would miss the opportunity of a lifetime.

Victoria: The plumber will be here first thing in the morning. Did you manage to turn off the water?

Billy: Yes, I "Managed" to do that without incident. So you want some dinner?

Victoria: Um, you know, I kind of O.D.'d on popcorn at the movie.

Billy: What'd you see?

Victoria: I don't know, Billy. I wasn't paying attention. I was just trying to keep my mind off things, you know?

Billy: Did you see the roses? Yellow ones. I should have got yellow ones, or daisies. I forgot how much you like daisies.

Victoria: It doesn't matter. None of it matters. It's not gonna erase what happened in Miami or make me forget the lie that you told about my dad.

Billy: Okay, then what will? How can I make this better?

Victoria: I don't know if you can. I mean, I just keep reliving all of the lies that you told when my dad was missing. What were you thinking? I mean, what was going through your head when--when we heard that he was killed in that explosion? (Scoffs) Did you feel even a little bit guilty knowing that you could come forward and say something? You could have saved his life? Or were you just happy to finally be rid of him?

Billy: I'm a jerk, right? We all know that. I just hoped that it would work itself out, but, uh, it didn't, did it? (Scoffs) You know... (Clears throat) When I was in L.A. with your father, uh, he didn't remember who I was. But he thought I was a good guy. You did, too, once, remember?

Victoria: (Scoffs) I can't do this right now.

Billy: Okay, don't. No, no, no, no, no, no. Come here. Please, come here.

Victoria: (Sighs)

Billy: Look, if you want to yell at me, just yell at me. If you want to hit me, hit me. You want to call me a son of a bitch, go ahead. Just don't walk away from me.

Victor: The place looks pretty sterile, don't you think?

Adam: I'll be sure and tell Jack that when he gets back.

Victor: So how have things been in his absence?

Adam: The market is steady. The staff is happy and productive.

Victor: I meant for you. Are you getting out of it what you want?

Adam: Three squares and a roof over my head.

Victor: So if it is the work you enjoy, there are a lot of avenues open to you other than this.

Adam: So you think I'm trying to prove myself to you? Is that it? That's what you want me to say? That I took this job to impress you?

Victor: I'll give you a chance to do that.

Adam: A prescription.

Victor: For painkillers Jack is on. You use that document and you take Newman Enterprises away from him.

Kyle: You know, you're still recovering, and I'm kind of in over my head here, so--

Jack: I didn't realize I was such a burden.

Kyle: Oh, come on. A guy just has major surgery and thinks he's superman, and it's up to Jimmy and Lois over here to make sure you don't end up in the hospital again.

Phyllis: Uh, well, listen, "Jimmy," "Clark" here has Mrs. Martinez, a full-time cook, Sarge comes pretty much every day, and you're here to pick up the slack.

Jack: You know, much as I love to have her hangin' around, I think, uh, "Lois" is right. I am gonna be fine.

Phyllis: All right, so that's settled, right?

Kyle: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.

Phyllis: (Chuckles)

Kyle: Allow me.

Phyllis: Oh, thank you. Sweet.

Kyle: It's the least I can do after everything you've done to help Dad.

Phyllis: Thank you.

Kyle: Get this.

Phyllis: (Chuckles)

Jack: Hey, he's right, you know. I owe you.

Phyllis: You don't owe me anything.

Avery: (Laughs) Mm. I have wanted to do that all day.

Nick: I need to burn dinner more often.

Avery: Yes, you do. How late can you stay?

Nick: Uh, I can stay a while. Summer's watching Faith.

Avery: Oh, well, that is good, because I have a little surprise for you after dinner.

Nick: Really?

Avery: Mm-hmm.

Nick: Is clothing optional?

Avery: Yes, but it might get a little chilly.

Nick: Mmm. Now you've definitely got me curious.

Avery: Well, let's just say that we're gonna take a little trip into your future. (Chuckles)

Nikki: Well, he'll be very happy to hear that. Thanks for calling, Pietro.

Chelsea: Nikki, have you seen Adam?

Nikki: Excuse me? (Scoffs) Obviously, having money has not taught you manners yet.

Chelsea: Never mind.

Nikki: Chelsea? What's wrong?

Chelsea: It's okay. I'd rather not give you a reason to gloat.

Nikki: Trust me, I am in no mood to gloat, not with everything Victor and I have been through lately.

Chelsea: Yeah, I'm, um, I'm sorry to hear about your home.

Nikki: To make matters worse, they have no idea who set the fire.

Sharon: Chelsea knows. She knows that I set the fire at the ranch house. She--she threatened to tell everyone if I don't stay away from Adam.

Dr. Watkins: Sounds like you are on the other end of a lot of anger.

Sharon: Gosh, you should have heard her accusing me of trying to steal her husband, twisting my words, just making me so frustrated that I... (Sighs) I ended up telling her that Adam could never love her as much as he loves me. I'm sure you think I'm a terrible person.

Dr. Watkins: Not at all.

Sharon: Well, Chelsea does. And you know, why wouldn't she? She's got the crazy ex taunting her, practically throwing herself at the man she just lost a baby with.

Dr. Watkins: Did you hear how you just referred to yourself again?

Sharon: Yeah. I called myself crazy. I'm sorry. It just, you know, it gets ingrained once people call you that long enough.

Dr. Watkins: Yes, we're gonna have to work on that definition.

Sharon: Well, I don't know if we're gonna have time if I end up going to prison.

Dr. Watkins: Does that scare you? The thought of being locked up again?

Sharon: (Sighs) As terrifying as that would be, I know I could survive it. (Sighs) But the idea of walking out that door and possibly seeing Nick's face or Victor's-- that scares me more than anything.

Adam: Desperate, Pops?

Victor: Why do you say that?

Adam: Prince Nicholas and Princess Victoria have abdicated. "The Naked Heiress" rode off into the sunset on her horse, which leaves me to do your dirty work.

Victor: Obviously, you haven't learned to accept a gift graciously, have you?

Adam: This is a gift, huh? For me? No. For you. You don't care which Newman sits in this seat here, even if it is me, just as long as it's not Jack Abbott, right?

Victor: I can always take that document back.

Adam: What would make you think that I want to unseat Jack? I might be perfectly happy being number two around here.

Victor: Have a nice day.

Jack: (Sighs)

Kyle: Hey, don't even think about it. Unh-unh.

Jack: Hey--

Kyle: Whatever it is can wait till the morning.

Jack: Not if I'm gonna beat the competition. What, they don't teach that at Harvard anymore?

Kyle: Yeah, I guess I still got a few things to learn. Hey, you know, what would you say if I were to do my training in R & D?

Jack: With Phyllis?

Kyle: Yeah, I think I could really get into that.

Jack: Well, I don't know. I was hoping maybe you'd do your apprenticeship with me... unless the idea of working side-by-side with your old man is just intolerable.

Kyle: No, no, no, it's-- it's--it's very... not intolerable. I just--weren't you saving that position for Uncle Billy?

Jack: Not after what he did.

Kyle: Which is what, exactly? I never actually heard what--

Jack: You know, don't-- don't trouble yourself with it. (Groans) (Scoffs)

Kyle: You know, it might just make you feel better to get it off your back.

Jack: What'd you say?

Kyle: Get it off your back. You know, whatever's going on between you and Uncle Billy, it's obviously weighing you down. Do something about it. Oh, you know what? I was supposed to meet some friends, like, ten minutes ago. I gotta bolt. Listen, I know you're not gonna do anything about it, but you know, just think about what I said, and take it easy.

Jack: Uh, yeah. Yeah, I w--I will.

Victoria: What else is there to say, Billy? We've been over this.

Billy: Yeah, up to a point, but, uh, then you have to go to bed.

Victoria: (Sighs)

Billy: Or you go see a movie, and I just think that it would help us-- help you-- to talk about what you've been avoiding.

Victoria: Oh, my God. Are you really gonna make me do this?

Billy: If not with me, then maybe with a friend or a therapist. Vick, I know what you're going through. Being locked up, I-- I know what it does, keeping that inside.

Victoria: In that Myanmar jail, was it so dark that you couldn't see your hand in front of your face?

Billy: It had its other charms.

Victoria: Were you scared that every time somebody walked through a door that you were gonna die?

Billy: What else?

Victoria: Were you handcuffed to a couch by some thug who was shot in front of you? Were you scared out of your mind that you were gonna be next? Or worse yet, they were gonna forget about you, and you were gonna slowly starve to death? I'm sorry. I can't do this.

Billy: You know what? You're doin' great. You're doin' great. Come on.

Victoria: No, I can't do this.

Billy: Keep going. You're doing great.

Johnny: (Cries)

Victoria: (Sighs) I'm coming, Honey. Mom's coming. (Walking upstairs)

Avery: Stay closed. Stay closed. (Laughs)

Nick: Oh, no.

Avery: Okay, open up.

Nick: All right. Where is my surprise?

Avery: This is your surprise. Surprise.

Nick: Well, it is what I always wanted. (Chuckles)

Avery: It could be. It's for sale.

Dr. Watkins: From what you've told me, Nick and Victor are very compassionate. In fact, I think there's a whole community of compassionate people right outside that door.

Sharon: I'm not ready. I-it's too soon.

Dr. Watkins: You feel safe here.

Sharon: (Sighs) Yes.

Dr. Watkins: Anywhere else?

Sharon: With Adam.

Dr. Watkins: Where'd you go just now?

Sharon: (Sighs) New Orleans. This plantation house called Oak Alley. When the world was coming down on us, Adam and I created a little paradise down there. (Sighs) But I can't rely on him anymore, can I? Not if I want to have a real life.

Dr. Watkins: There'll be other people and places that you can rely on, you know.

Sharon: Yeah. What am I gonna do until then?

Dr. Watkins: You may want to try a touchstone-- a piece of music that's meaningful to you, or a gift from a loved one. It can be very effective in calming people with bipolar disorder.

Sharon: (Sighs) I've been using Adam as my touchstone.

Chelsea: (Sighs) I really hope that you get some justice. No one should be able to just barge into your home and destroy everything you've built with the man that you love.

Nikki: Well, I agree.

Chelsea: Anyway, um, I should probably get-- be getting home. Good luck, Nikki.

Nikki: Chelsea? Um, that thing I said before about having money but no manners... people used to say a lot of hurtful things to me years ago when I first married Victor. I never thought I would be on the other side of that exchange. Please don't take it personally.

Phyllis: So I missed the meeting of the conspirators' club. What was on the agenda?

Adam: My father and I were plotting to kidnap Santa Claus, take over the North Pole, capitalize on all that cheap elf labor.

Phyllis: Where does Jack fit in?

Adam: (Clears throat) He'll be right here at Newman Enterprises. Now if you'll excuse me, Phyllis, I have real, legitimate work to get to.

Phyllis: For a sociopath, you're a bad liar.

(Cell phone rings) (Ring)

Adam: Yes?

Sharon: I know you're really busy, but it's important that I see you, and I-I wouldn't ask otherwise.

Adam: I'll make it happen. You done eavesdropping? You know, why don't you channel all this extra energy of yours into your work instead of running around acting all suspicious? You got that?

Phyllis: Oh, yeah. Trust me, I got that.

Billy: Look, if you're here to start up with me again, just--just--

Jack: No, no, no, no. I'm here to patch things up.

Avery: Picture it-- deejay platform up there. Dance floor in this area. And this is the perfect corner for your V.I.P. section.

Nick: I have VIPs?

Avery: Yes, you do, because everybody comes to Nick's.

Nick: Well, of course they do.

Avery: (Laughs)

Nick: (Chuckles) You know, Avery, I absolutely love it that you found this for me.

Avery: But you're not sure that this is it? I understand. I mean... (Scoffs) Who wants to sip cocktails every night at a bar while a beautiful woman-- that would be me-- eyes you from across the room? Yeah, there's nothing appealing about that.

Nick: Yeah, nothing at all.

Avery: (Chuckles)

Sharon: I just had an emergency session with Dr. Watkins.

Adam: What was the emergency?

Sharon: You.

Adam: What did I do?

Sharon: I can't keep asking you to just drop everything and come over here, so... I'm taking you off my speed dial.

Adam: If you think that's going to be best for your recovery, I mean, we can set up some kind of schedule where we talk once a week or something.

Sharon: No, no, no, you-- you don't understand. I'm--I'm talking about cutting things off completely.

Adam: Sharon, I thought I was helping you.

Sharon: You--you are. You--you are. I... (Sighs) Adam, you--you have a life. You--you have a home and a wife who loves you and--and who deserves to have all of you.

Adam: Just rethink this, okay? It--it doesn't make any sense. I--this is coming out of nowhere.

Sharon: Adam, please. Please, I--

Adam: Sharon, look, I cannot afford to lose you. I-I could give up anything else. I'd be fine giving up my job, my money--

Sharon: No, don't. Don't.

Adam: Just as--Sharon--

Sharon: Don't say that. You don't mean that. Adam, I-- listen, I-I-I don't deserve it, not--not the woman that I am now. And I'm never going to be the woman that I want to be, not at someone else's expense. So listen. I need you to go to Chelsea and devote all of your energy to making a wonderful life for the two of you. Just... take another honeymoon and work on having a family. Be happy.

Adam: And you? Will you be happy?

Sharon: Someday. Good-bye, Adam.

Adam: Good-bye, Sharon.

Avery: Admit it, I piqued your interest.

Nick: I'm more than piqued.

Avery: (Laughs) I meant about the nightclub. What?

Nick: I'm so used to people trying to make me live their vision of the world. It's nice to have someone lookin' out for mine.

Avery: Well, I will always be in your corner.

Nick: Including the V.I.P. corner?

Avery: Yes, as long as it's away from prying eyes. That way, I can do this...

Nikki: Oh. Hi.

Victor: So?

Nikki: So I have good news.

Victor: What? What's that?

Nikki: The penthouse is finished.

Victor: Oh, yeah?

Nikki: We can move in whenever we want.

Victor: I love it. Give me a kiss. The sooner, the better, you know.

Nikki: Mm-hmm.

Victor: And, um, let's celebrate. I mean, it's the start of a whole new adventure.

Nikki: I think that's a wonderful idea-- a celebration.

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Okay, uh, it's not like we don't all need cheering up. I am gonna start planning it right away.

Victor: You'll--wait. Wait. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Whoa. Only friends and family, okay?

Nikki: Okay. When you say "Family," are you including Billy?

Victor: Unh-unh. I don't want to see that punk in my house, no.

Billy: We tried this already, Jack.

Jack: So let's agree to do something different. L-l-let's agree that Victoria's kidnapping is on both our heads. I used you to send her on a wild-goose chase. You used me to spy for her father.

Billy: You tied that up in a nice little package, didn't you?

Jack: And it doesn't matter whose fault it is. What matters is that we're brothers.

Billy: That doesn't change a thing around here.

Jack: Billy, I am so sorry about what happened to Victoria. But the important thing is she's all right.

Victoria: I'm far from all right.

Avery: Hey, listen. Check out your e-mail right now. At the risk of coming across like a pushy broad, I sent you some photos.

Nick: (Sighs)

Avery: I thought you might like a better look at your-- oops, I mean "The" nightclub. After all, I did distract you earlier. So now that you're paying close attention, I hope the pictures inspire you, especially the last one. This is your future, Nick. I can feel it.

Chelsea: (Sniffles)

Adam: Hey.

Chelsea: I didn't make dinner, so if you're hungry--

Adam: I'm not.

Chelsea: Sharon cook for you?

Adam: No, Chelsea, she didn't. I'm sorry I ever put you in that position.

Chelsea: Sure. (Sighs)

Adam: It's over. Sharon knows she's on her own now.

Chelsea: I am so tired of fighting with you.

Adam: I will earn your trust back. You just have to give me time. Things will get better. I promise.

Jack: Victoria, I-I know you're upset, but we're all just so relieved that you weren't hurt.

Billy: (Scoffs) What is wrong with you?

Jack: Look, the kidnapper was arrested before--

Victoria: Before he could screw with my mind? Before he could leave me with nightmares? Have Billy and I living in a constant state of vigilance? We don't know if this guy is dead or alive. We don't know who's gonna be coming after us next, Jack.

Billy: You know, for somebody who wants to be like Dad, you don't have a clue. Even I know that the things I do have consequences.

Victoria: All you care about is how it affects you, no matter what the situation. Take over Newman? Oh, it doesn't matter who loses their jobs. Steal Neil away from Chancellor? That's okay. I'm sure Katherine can handle it on her own.

Billy: Whether she's up to it or not.

Victoria: It's all about Jack.

Billy: So we'll leave you to him.

Jack: A lovely evening to both of you, as well.

Phyllis: Adam? Adam? "Don't be so suspicious. Why are you so suspicious?" Yeah, they only tell you that when they have s-- something to hide.

Billy: So what do you think? "Bonnie and Clyde"? "Batman and Bat Girl"? "Elmo and the Cookie Monster"?

Victoria: (Sighs)

Billy: The way we just worked as a team back there, it seemed like old times, right?

Victoria: Nothing about this seems like old times.

Billy: You know, um, when a goose is injured and it falls out of formation, another one will leave the flock and stay with the injured bird until it's healed. Well, that's me, Baby. I'm gonna stay with you until you're ready to fly again. And then we'll take off together. Come on. I mean it, Vick. We love each other too much not to work this out.

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Neil: All I need is a signature, and you will be Jabot's new chief legal officer.

Leslie: I'm afraid I can't sign it.

Lauren: What we're trying to say is that Summer's a--

Fen: You don't like Summer.

Phyllis: You are not going to cut me out of my daughter's life. You got that?
