Nick: Good morning.
Summer: Hey.
Nick: You're not gonna be late for school, are you?
Summer: What are you all dressed up for-- job interview?
Nick: Got a meeting. Your mother and I are getting together with the lawyers today.
Summer: Make you get dressed up to get divorced. That's weird.
(Knock on door)
Avery: Hi.
Phyllis: Hi. I have a question for you.
Avery: Come in. Uh, I was just about to make some coffee. Do you want some?
Phyllis: Oh, no, I had-- I had my coffee this morning. I'm meeting with Nick today... and his lawyer.
Avery: Ah. Well, if you need legal advice, Wisconsin divorce law really isn't my specialty, so...
Phyllis: No, I don't need legal advice from you, thanks. I'm covered. I need moral support. Will you come to the meeting with me?
Victor: Rough night, Billy?
Billy: Ohh. Come on in, Victor.
Victor: I was knocking at the door. I guess you didn't hear me, did you?
Billy: Guess not.
Victor: Let me ask you something. I--you know, you're a writer. You know about grammar. Then I get this e-mail supposedly written by Victoria, who was very meticulous about her grammar. You know about the noun-verb rule. In the e-mail, it says that, um, "I know that each of you are worried about me." You and I know it should be "I know each of you is worried about me," so it makes me think that perhaps Victoria didn't write that e-mail.
Billy: I cannot entertain this level of paranoia before I have my coffee, so...
Victor: Ah, right. Now wait, whoa, whoa, whoa, one second here. What the hell is that there? What, you got a gun in there? What the hell is going on here?
Billy: Uh, I thought I heard something last night. Went to go check it out, just in case. Turned out to be nothing.
Victor: You have a gun lying around, but you didn't lock your door.
Billy: I went to go get the paper this morning.
Victor: Where's the paper?
Billy: You know, you need a hobby. Without world domination to focus your mind on, you're going to some strange places, and do you mind putting that down? 'Cause you're starting to make me nervous.
Victor: Your wife is missing, and you have a gun lying around?
Billy: My wife is not missing.
Victor: If you screwed up and something happened to Victoria, you're gonna wish you had used this on yourself.
Victoria: (Grunting) (Sighs) Let me out! Let me out!
Nick: Do you want to talk about it?
Summer: No, I'm--I'm fine, unless you want to talk about it.
Nick: You're not disappointed? 'Cause I'm disappointed. I really thought we were starting to come together as a family.
Summer: I don't think about that much.
Nick: Summer.
Summer: I don't know how I feel. When I'm not with her, I feel bad for her. You know, I think about how upset she must be with herself, and how much she must miss us, and... I know I should be nicer to her, but it's... when I see her, it just-- it hurts.
Nick: Yeah, me, too.
Summer: (Exhales slowly)
Avery: Why would you want me there? It's already gonna be a pretty tense situation.
Phyllis: Yeah, that's-- that's why I want you there. You can--you can, um, calm me down. You can rein me in if I get upset.
Avery: I haven't exactly been a calming influence on you lately.
Phyllis: No, I-I can trust that--that you're not gonna make a move on my husband during the divorce proceedings, right, Avery? I mean, you could do that much for me, right?
Avery: Phyllis, I don't ever intend to "Make a move" on Nick... but I might start dating him. I know it upsets you, the idea of Nick and I in a relationship.
Phyllis: (Sighs) Well, I have been after you for a really long time to own this, and you finally have. You want my husband. Well, thank you for being... honest with me, Avery. I really appreciate it. It means a lot, finally.
Avery: So given these circumstances, you can see why you don't want me at this meeting.
Phyllis: No, I want you at the meeting.
Avery: What?
Phyllis: I want my sister.
Avery: (Sighs)
Phyllis: I want my sister. I want you there. I don't have any-- I just want you there. Can you do that for me? Just the one thing.
Avery: Phyllis, I think it would be uncomfortable for everybody involved, especially Nick. Oh, my God. But that's what you want, isn't it? You want him to feel off-balance, to feel guilty.
Phyllis: I'm trying to take the high road here. I'm trying to be mature. I'm--I'm trying to do the right thing and be responsible, and you're accusing me of being manipulative?
Avery: Wow.
Phyllis: But that's what you do. That's your safe zone. That's how you survive, isn't it, Avery? That's how you survived our family.
Avery: Ohh.
Phyllis: "Look at Phyllis. She's so bad. Phyllis is so bad. And look how perfect I am in comparison."
Avery: Really? I can't believe you're even going there.
Phyllis: I can't believe you won't help me.
(Cell phone rings)
Billy: Eddie.
Eddie: You got the money?
Billy: It's on the way.
Eddie: So you don't have it yet?
Billy: $2 million, Eddie. You can't just snap your fingers. Let me talk to Victoria.
Eddie: Whoa, Billy. Whoa, Billy boy. You're not calling the shots here. I am, man. You want to talk to her, you gotta ask me nice.
Billy: May I please speak with Victoria?
Victoria: Hi.
Billy: Vick, it's gonna be okay. I'm gonna get you home.
Eddie: Give me my money, or that was the last conversation you and your wife will ever have.
Lily: We should have gone somewhere else. I know this is where your mom was staying.
Cane: No, it wouldn't matter where I was. I'd be thinking about her. At least here, I know you like the French toast.
Lily: That's true, I do. (Chuckles)
Cane: Yeah. Yeah.
Lily: I hope Genevieve is okay, though.
Cane: I think she'll get in touch with us one day, maybe.
Lily: But you don't expect her to?
Cane: I don't know if she trusts me. She probably thinks I'll turn the cops on her, so I don't know.
Lily: Would you?
Cane: No. You think she may have killed that girl?
Lily: No. No, I don't.
Cane: Well, she let my dad fall off the balcony.
Lily: That was Colin. I would have let him fall off a balcony.
Cane: (Chuckles) Yeah.
Lily: And we don't even know if that woman they found really was Shirl Claude.
Cane: Mom didn't want to stick around to find out, did she?
Lily: It's just sad, because I know that she really wanted to spend more time with you and be more a part of your life.
Cane: But as usual, other things take precedence. That's the way it's always been with her and me.
Jill: My, what a stunning couple.
Lily: Hi!
Cane: Oh, God, come here.
Jill: (Laughs)
Cane: Oh, I've missed you.
Jill: Hi, Sweetie.
Cane: Ohh.
Lily: Hi. Let me get a hug in there. Hurry up.
Jill: Mwah!
Cane: Did you know she was gonna be here? Did you know she was gonna--
Lily: Ohh. I did not, but this is great. So good to see you.
Jill: (Laughs)
Victor: That took longer than I thought. I'm sorry.
Nikki: Oh, that's okay. I ordered for you.
Victor: That's nice.
Nikki: So did Billy tell you any more?
Victor: I'd say not intentionally, no.
Nikki: What does that mean? He let something slip?
Victor: He's scared.
Nikki: Of you, yes, we all know that.
Victor: No, no, it's beyond that. Something is going on.
Nikki: Oh, excuse me. Just a minute.
Victor: You're meeting that guy again?
Nikki: Just a few last-minute details.
Victor: The banker?
(Cell phone alert chimes)
Nick: All right, Sweetheart, have a good day, okay?
Summer: Gotta be better than yours, right?
Nick: Yeah. I'll talk to you later.
Nick: You didn't tell me Fen was coming over.
Summer: I didn't know that he was.
Fen: Good morning.
Nick: Good morning, Fen.
Summer: Hey, Fen.
Nick: Don't be late for school.
Fen: Yes, Sir.
Summer: I thought that you were mad at me.
Fen: I just don't want to get involved in the mess with Jamie. The kid's a spaz monkey, but let's just leave him alone.
Summer: Yeah, you're right. It was stupid of me.
Fen: For real?
Summer: Yeah. Plus, it-- it was just dumb. I mean, it's not gonna upset Ronan at all. Okay, that guy doesn't care about anyone but himself, so...
Fen: Um, well, we better go.
Summer: You know, you--you go ahead. I have to make a stop first.
Fen: Summer, your dad gave me the stink eye and said "Get to school on time." Don't get me in more trouble with him.
Summer: It's fine. He'll be happy with this. I'm just gonna go see my mom.
Lily: I don't know how you can convince someone like Katherine to take it easy. (Laughs)
Jill: Yeah, I probably should have told her I thought it would be a good idea if she did go back to work.
Lily: Yeah.
Cane: Ooh, reverse psychology, huh?
Jill: Well, why not? I mean, she's as stubborn and contrary as any 2 year old.
Cane: Yeah, but you gotta let people be who they are, you know? Try and put pressure on them to change, and they'll just back away from you.
Jill: Cane, I heard about Genevieve leaving town.
Cane: In one way, it's a relief.
Jill: I'm sure it's very painful. I'm sorry, Honey.
Cane: Yeah. Thanks.
Neil: Hey, everybody.
Lily: Hey, Dad, look who's here.
Jill: Neil, congratulations. I was so pleased to hear that Jabot's gonna be in such capable hands.
Neil: Thank you. Actually, you're, uh, just the person I wanted to see.
Nikki: You were supposed to have this arranged by now.
David: There are regulations I have to follow.
Nikki: This is extremely important.
David: I understand. I'll make the funds available to you as quickly as I can.
Nikki: Today. It has to be today.
David: I'll call you to give you an update.
Nikki: (Sighs) Sorry. (Sighs)
Victor: Uh-huh. Sweetheart, um... why does Billy Abbott want to speak with you? That part of the surprise? You've got to tell me what's going on.
Nikki: (Exhales slowly) (Sniffles) Victoria's been kidnapped. Billy... owed somebody some money from gambling. I'm trying to get the ransom together. $2 million.
Victor: What? And you kept this from me?
Nikki: (Sniffles)
Sarge: So the surgery went all right.
Jack: Well, Doc says I'm gonna be good as new-- that is, after I have my physical therapy. So what's your schedule look like? You think you can fit me in?
Sarge: Jack, I don't think I'm the guy to help you.
Jack: Wait, I was that big a pain in the butt?
Sarge: (Sighs) You were willing to go under the knife a few months back to get the bullet removed.
Jack: Yeah, the experimental surgery trial.
Sarge: And I gave you hell for even thinking about it. Now if you didn't get this second opinion in time, I don't know. (Sighs) I--
Jack: Wait, wait, wait a minute. I don't hold you responsible. You trusted my doctor's expertise. So did my family. So did I. Who knows, if I'd had the surgery back then, how it would have turned out. I mean, the bullet hadn't shifted yet. I am glad you brought this up, though. It'll be nice to have something to hold over your head, just in case.
Sarge: Yet another reason for me to move on.
Jack: You can't do that. Who else is gonna put up with me?
Sarge: You may have a point there. I mean, out of consideration for my fellow physical therapists, I should stick around. I mean, nobody-- nobody should ever have to suffer like that.
Jack: (Laughs) Excellent.
Avery: Hello.
Nick: Good morning.
Avery: Uh, don't you have a meeting that you're supposed to get to?
Nick: Did you hear that from Summer?
Avery: Phyllis.
Nick: Uh... (Sighs) Yeah, that is definitely happening today. I was just about to take off. You gonna sit down, or what?
Avery: Uh, okay.
Nick: (Chuckles)
Avery: Uh, Phyllis... she seems anxious.
Nick: It's not gonna be a good time for anyone, but we need to wrap this up so we can move on.
Avery: Well, afterward, if you need to decompress or just talk, I'm available.
Neil: Jill, I really appreciate your input on Jabot.
Jill: Oh, anytime. I just hope Jack realizes how lucky he is to have you running things.
Neil: Well, I intend to remind him on a regular basis.
Jill: (Chuckles) Won't it be strange for you to be--having a boss, after being C.E.O. of Chancellor Industries, though?
Neil: Jack's not gonna be looking over my shoulder. He specifically wanted someone that he wouldn't have to keep tabs on.
Jill: Hmm.
Neil: He's gonna be a busy man.
Jill: Yes, he will have his hands full with Newman.
Neil: My job is to make his life easier. I do that, Jack's a happy man.
Jill: Mm-hmm.
Neil: Um, being an-- an important C.E.O...
Jill: (Laughs)
Neil: I have to run. Really, I do. Someone's waiting for me. Thanks. I'll talk to you soon.
Jill: Oh, good luck to you, Honey. Okay.
Neil: I'll see you. Thanks.
Jill: Yeah. Yes, Tucker. I got some good news for you. I have figured out a way to convince Katherine to step down.
Nikki: I'm sorry. I was scared to tell you what was happening. Billy makes it sound like this Eddie person is completely unhinged.
Victor: And that idiot son-in-law of ours thinks he can handle this on his own?
Nikki: He's just following orders. He's terrified.
Victor: You should have come to me.
Nikki: I know. I'm sorry, but I... I don't know if this guy is working alone. I mean, he might have somebody watching us, and if he gets a hint that you're involved, he--he could--he could panic and take it out on Victoria.
Victor: Okay, I don't want you to worry about this any more, all right? I'm gonna take charge of this situation.
Billy: Is the money in the car?
Nikki: No.
Billy: No?
Nikki: My banker doesn't have it for me yet.
Billy: Oh, Nikki.
Nikki: I know, I told him I need it now.
Billy: You--you don't think he's stalling, do you? You don't think he's trying to contact the authorities?
Nikki: Of course not! He doesn't even know anything.
Billy: Good. That's good, because we can't risk the police getting involved, and Eddie--he'll snap. He's crazy.
Nikki: All right, look, they may already be involved.
Billy: I'm sorry?
Nikki: I had to tell Victor.
Billy: Nikki...
Nikki: He saw your text. He demanded to know what was going on.
Billy: Oh, my God, oh, my God. Now there's gonna be cops and S.W.A.T. and helicopters and Lord knows what else, and he's gonna get my wife killed.
Victor: Listen, this is an emergency situation. I want you to track down a loan shark from Miami called Eddie G. He was recently released from prison. Please find out for me what his last whereabouts were, okay? But you have--you have to exercise discretion. I don't want anyone to know that you're following him. Is that clear? Okay.
John: You're planning to tough it out, Jack?
Jack: I can handle it.
John: Well, Son, I do worry.
Jack: Dad, you had a hell of a lot more faith in me when I was unconscious and about to die. Where are all the pep talks now, all the good cheer?
John: Well, that's because I had more hope for you at that time. Your troubles were solely physical. Now...
Jack: Now I am enjoying running all things Newman. I wish you'd had an opportunity to do that.
John: No, I wouldn't have made your choices, Jackie. No, family is too important to me.
Jack: Family is important to me, too.
John: Oh, really? Well, why don't you tell that to Ashley and Billy?
Jack: Ashley and Billy are upset now. They'll get over it. Besides, I'm a lot closer to some people than I was before the takeover.
John: (Chuckles) Name one.
Jack: Phyllis.
John: Oh, Jack.
Jack: We're working together, supporting each other. (Sighs) In fact, she's moving in with me for a little while.
John: Oh, you're kidding yourself, Jack. Phyllis accepting your job offer had more to do with her feelings for Nick than you.
Phyllis: (Exhales sharply)
(Knock on door)
(Elevator door opens)
(Elevator door closes)
Summer: "Sorry about last night. Can we try again?" (Sighs) (Sighs)
Man: I think we can finalize things relatively quickly. The fact that the marriage was brief simplifies matters, in terms of the division of property, at least.
Leslie: Mrs. Newman has no objection--
Phyllis: You know, I, um... I want to amend that.
Nick: What are you doing? I thought we agreed--
Phyllis: I, uh, just-- there's something I want to add.
Nick: We were only married a few months, Phyllis. You're not entitled to anything.
Phyllis: Are you gonna say no?
Nick: What do you want?
Phyllis: (Voice breaking) A box of, um... w-with Tedders... and--and a mobile that he made.
Nick: So you want it to be in a legal document that the second part of the party wants the bear Tedders?
Phyllis: Uh-huh. It's, um, sentimental, and I'm afraid that I won't... (Sighs) Um, just-- I-I just want to keep it. You'll--I want to keep it. You'll let me do that, right? You know, just let me do that, please.
Nick: Of course. I'm not gonna say no to you. Is there anything else?
Leslie: There's still the matter of custody.
Man: Well, the agreement stipulates shared custody.
Phyllis: Yeah, um, I-I have something to say about that, too. That--that means our daughter can just come and go as she pleases, right?
Nick: Summer's old enough to choose where she wants to spend her time.
Phyllis: Yeah, I know. I know, but the--the thing is, if, um... if we let her choose, she's never gonna want to spend time with me.
Nick: That's not really my problem.
Jack: (Breathing heavily) (Exhales slowly)
John: Jackie, Jackie. You should take some time to heal. Now don't go back to work yet.
Jack: Dad, I'm gonna heal as well at work as I do at home, perhaps better. I'll have more things to distract me there.
John: So you're not gonna listen to me?
Jack: Seems to me you got better things to do than hand out all this advice. (Winces) I sure got better things to do than listen. (Groans)
Phyllis: What are you doing here? Uh, aren't you supposed to be in school?
Summer: Yeah, I just wanted to see you.
Phyllis: Oh. Well, any other day, I would be upset, but not--not now.
Summer: So, uh, how did it go with the lawyers?
Phyllis: It was... okay. It was okay. It'll be fine. The--the worst part is behind us.
Summer: Why did you do it?
Phyllis: What?
Summer: Everything that got you here-- you getting divorced again.
Phyllis: I didn't want to go to prison. I mean, the thought of missing your graduation and the thought of you going off to college and missing that...missing you walk down the aisle at your wedding...and when Ronan said that he would help me-- it was a horrible idea, Summer. I know it was a horrible idea, but I felt like there was no way out.
Summer: Yeah, well, you didn't have to sleep with him.
Phyllis: I'm not really comfortable talking about this with you.
Summer: Yeah, well, you did it right in front of me, so I think we can talk about it.
Phyllis: I... I needed to know that someone cared.
Summer: And now, you're still seeing him.
Phyllis: Where'd you get that idea?
Summer: (Laughs) You don't change. You know, wherever there's something that you don't want to talk about, you just lie...
Phyllis: No, no, no, no...
Summer: Or you just avoid the question.
Phyllis: No, no, no, that's not what I'm doing. I'm being very up front with you.
Summer: Yeah, okay, sure, Mom.
Phyllis: Summer!
Summer: No, no, I'm not a little kid anymore. I can see who you really are now. (Scoffs)
Phyllis: Hey.
Ronan: Hey.
Phyllis: Um, have-- have you seen Summer?
Ronan: No, I haven't. Is she missing again?
Phyllis: Um, no, no. We just had a very bad mother/daughter moment. I thought maybe she was here.
Ronan: Well, she comes in all the time, so if you wait...
Phyllis: Mm-hmm, yeah.
Ronan: For a second, I'm sure you're gonna see her.
Phyllis: Okay.
Ronan: Did you-- d-did you get my flowers?
Phyllis: Mnh-mnh, no.
Ronan: 'Cause I put 'em-- I put 'em right outside your door.
Phyllis: Oh. Oh.
Ronan: Yeah.
Phyllis: Um, I-I'm sorry, I was in a hurry. I-I missed them. I--
Ronan: No, it's okay.
Phyllis: You--you didn't need to do that.
Ronan: Yes, I did. Yes, I did. I had to do something. I'm not at all proud about the way I acted.
Phyllis: That's kind of... our running theme, isn't it? We're not proud of the way we act.
Ronan: But, uh, here is something I'm proud of. Jamie. This is Jamie. My--my friend Phyllis.
Jamie: Um, hello.
Phyllis: Hi, Jamie. Very nice to meet you.
Jamie: Oh.
Phyllis: (Chuckles) Um...
Ronan: I'm, um, I'm mentoring Jamie for awhile. A couple mistakes, no big deal. He's getting back on track right now.
Neil: Hey, Counselor, I have been meaning to call you.
Leslie: Well, that's strange. I've been meaning to call you, too.
Neil: How about that?
Leslie: Yeah.
Neil: Should I leave and get on the phone so we can actually talk, right?
Leslie: (Laughs) Just wanted to say congratulations on Jabot.
Neil: Thank you.
Leslie: Yeah.
Neil: Want to talk to you about that. Um, I have some positions to fill...
Leslie: Mm-hmm.
Neil: And I'm still in need of some good legal counsel.
Leslie: You looking for recommendations?
Neil: Hey, how-- how happy are you with your partnership with Vance?
Leslie: Me? You want me to be a lawyer at Jabot?
Neil: Leslie, I've seen you in action during the Newman lawsuit. You got skills.
Leslie: Mm.
Neil: Yes, you do. I was very impressed with your grace under fire.
Leslie: Yeah, well, thank you, but...
Neil: You don't have to give me an answer now. We'll just keep talking, okay?
Leslie: Yeah, there's nothing to talk about. Neil, as much as I appreciate the compliment, I--
Neil: Oh, come on. You're not even gonna give me just a little chance, just a little one? How about this? Dinner next week, my treat.
Leslie: Mm.
Neil: We'll talk. New place up the street. How about it?
Leslie: Yeah, I am a little tired of takeout.
Neil: See? Everyone gets hungry, huh? And you may not take the job, but it will be an entertaining dinner, I promise you that.
Summer: (Sighs) "Trashing your dad's girlfriend's house was a loser move, which makes you a loser. You don't deserve to have any friends."
(Laptop key clicks)
Summer: (Sighs)
Ronan: Jamie reaches out over the boat with this net and he's ready to bag this fish I'm bringing in, right? He pops the fish on accident. Fish comes off my line. I get upset. Jamie here, hand in the-- why don't you tell her what-- tell her what you did.
Jamie: Pulled the fish out by its tail.
Ronan: Pulls the fish out by its tail. Reaches in the water like a ninja, pulls out a 4-pound walleye. It was amazing.
Phyllis: Wow. Wow! I don't believe that. In fact, I think you two are big liars.
Jamie: No, it's true. It is true.
Ronan: It is absolutely true, and I would not believe it if I didn't see it with my own eyes.
Phyllis: It's a fish tale.
(Cell phone alert chimes)
Ronan: No, it's not.
Phyllis: (Laughing)
Ronan: No, it's not. He was amazing. What--what's going on there?
Jamie: Uh, it--it's an e-mail from that girl, Brittni.
Ronan: Can I see it? Hey, man, this is garbage, okay? There's--
Jamie: It--it's no big deal. I--hey, I gotta go.
Ronan: Jamie.
Phyllis: Oh. Bye-bye. Bye-- what? What was that about?
Ronan: I need to talk to you about that. Uh, there's this mean girl in school, um... (Sighs) She found out about some mistakes he made. She's been hassling him online. She leaked all of it on the internet.
Phyllis: Oh, that's wrong. That's disgusting, truly. Can you talk to her parents? Do you know who she is?
Ronan: I am. I think Summer's involved.
Nick: Hey. What are you doing here?
Summer: Um, it's my lunch break, and I left a book here that I needed. I-I don't--I was so distracted this morning by thinking of you and Mom. Was it awful?
Nick: Uh, no, it wasn't too bad.
Summer: All right, good talk. Later.
Nick: Bye.
(Cell phone rings)
Avery: Hey, you survived.
Nick: Yeah. I was just calling to see if that offer to be a friendly listener was still good.
Avery: Yes. Do you need someone to talk to?
Nick: Yeah, that'd be nice. Let's go out to dinner tonight.
Avery: You mean out in public?
Nick: Yeah, I... I need someone to talk to. Check that. I need to talk to you, Avery.
Billy: Victor, what did you do? Who did you tell?
Victor: This is none of your concern anymore.
Billy: Look, you don't know this guy, okay? I do. He's not bluffing. He will follow through with this threat.
Victor: He won't get a chance.
Billy: You can't stop him, okay? We have to follow his rules. He's got the power because he has Victoria. Just, please, don't do this.
Victor: Listen carefully. This is none of your concern anymore.
Billy: None of my concern? She's my wife.
Victor: She is no longer your wife. Your marriage is over. You got that, Billy Abbott? I'm gonna get Victoria back. I'm gonna bring her back to Genoa City. You stay the hell out of my way. You got that?
Billy: Not this time. She's my wife, and I love her more than anything, and I'll die if anything happens to her. I am the best bet to get her back safe.
Victor: We shall see.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Phyllis: What if Summer's lashing out?
Nick: Well, I'm gonna need a lot more than your new boyfriend's gut feeling.
Lauren: You tell us what's going on between you and Summer.
Adam: I am the only one who stepped up to help your mother when she needed it.
