Episode # 10012 ~ The Car Accident Causes Chelsea to Lose Her Baby; The Judge Drops Phyllis' Case
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Judge Daley: (Banging gavel) Order, order.
Chris: Do something!
Michael: A judge's ruling is not subject to debate, Christine!
Chris: You can't let Phyllis walk.
Phyllis: Is this for real?
Michael: Uh, your honor, I am shocked and perplexed by your decision, especially considering that Judge Rice rejected the defense's initial motion to dismiss.
Judge Daley: Mr. Baldwin, you may have noticed that I'm not Judge Rice.
Michael: Of course.
Chloe: I think this is good news for you.
Judge Daley: I realize you haven't been district attorney for very long, but I'm... (Chuckles) I can't believe that you would waste my time, the court's time, and the taxpayers' money on a case that has absolutely no merit.
Michael: I think it does have merit.
Judge Daley: You don't get a vote.
Michael: The prosecution was just about to prove that the defendant was involved in the death of a key witness against her.
Judge Daley: You're talking about the death of Timothy Reid. His autopsy showed he died of a heart attack.
Heather: Even if Ms. Newman wasn't involved in Dr. Reid's death, there's still the case of the hit-and-run, which is why we are here, your honor.
Judge Daley: You're a very brave woman, Ms. Stevens. I mean, the fact that you and your boss found an extremely questionable loophole in a case that's older than most of the shirts I own... (Laughs) Is unconscionable.
Heather: Extremely question--
Judge Daley: I should hold you in contempt.
Chris: Your honor, you can't do this. This case is completely legitimate.
Judge Daley: I can't wait to find out who the hell you are.
Chris: I'm Christine Blair. I'm one of the victims in this case.
Judge Daley: Oh, congratulations, Ms. Blair. You're the reason the case has been dismissed.
Chris: Your honor, no one wanted to see Phyllis Newman prosecuted more than I did.
Judge Daley: I know, and you were willing to do anything to get it, including the claim that you were a federal employee when this alleged crime took place.
Chris: I was working with the justice department.
Judge Daley: "Working with," Ms. Blair?
Chris: Well, I was a consultant for a rape case with legal aid.
Judge Daley: A consultant, not a federal agent. Well, then I guess the, uh, statute of limitations doesn't apply.
Chris: Your honor, the evidence against Phyllis Newman is overwhelming.
Judge Daley: And irrelevant. This isn't your personal playground. You can't manipulate things to get the results you want.
Chris: I wasn't trying to do that.
Judge Daley: That's exactly what you were trying to do. I think it's time we went back to following the laws of the state of Wisconsin. Ms. Newman, you're released.
Avery: (Laughs)
Phyllis: Oh, my God, this is--is this really over? Is this over? Oh, my God, Daniel.
Daniel: (Laughs)
Phyllis: Oh, my God, it's over. (Sighs) I-I...
Avery: (Laughs)
Phyllis: I-I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I don't--I don't-- I don't make it very easy for--for you to stand by me... (Voice cracks) And I'm sorry.
Avery: But we did, we did.
Phyllis: (Normal voice) I--okay, so that's it, right?
Leslie: No, there's some paperwork to fill out.
Phyllis: Okay. Oh, my God.
Daniel: Hey, Heather. Hey.
Heather: I'm sorry. I can't talk right now. I can't talk right now.
Chris: You are never gonna get away with trying to kill Paul and me.
Phyllis: You know what? You know what?! It's really sad-- sad that you live in the past, isn't it? Probably because you have nothing going on in the present, Christine. You tried to take me down, but you can't. You can't, okay? I'm sorry, maybe you should have been doing things like getting married, finding a husband, having kids, but it's too late for you now, isn't it? Uh-huh.
Chris: You smug bitch.
Phyllis: Ohh, look at this! The real Christine comes out. Look at that.
Michael: Christine, let it go. Let it go, let it go.
Phyllis: Have fun on your flight back to D.C.
Michael: Phyllis!
Phyllis: Hope you don't get strip-searched. Where are the papers?
Leslie: I will check with the court clerk.
Phyllis: (Exhaling sharply) Hey.
Ronan: Hey.
Phyllis: I just--I...
Ronan: To say that I'm happy for you d-- that it doesn't even cover it. I'm...
Phyllis: Thank you, Ronan. Thank you for everything.
(Cell phone rings)
Nick: Adam, what do you want? Chelsea, what's wrong? Why are you calling me? Okay, I'm on my way. Summer's been in an accident, a car accident.
Phyllis: Oh, my God.
Ronan: I'll--I'll drive you guys to the hospital.
Nick: You are the last thing my daughter needs to see.
Phyllis: Here, let's-- let's go. Oh, my God.
Chris: Aren’t you upset about this?
Michael: (Laughs) No. No, I just love being lied to and publicly humiliated, but I guess I should just blame myself for being caught up in your witch hunt.
Chris: Phyllis tried to kill Paul and me.
Michael: We did not have one ounce of solid proof that she meant to hurt anyone, and yet you were so desperate to find her guilty that you lied about being a-- a federal employee!
Chris: Michael, I was on government payroll.
Michael: You deliberately misled me.
Chris: I cannot believe this. Phyllis gets away with attempted murder, and I'm the bad guy?
Michael: No, no, I'm not saying that.
Chris: Yeah, but you're not sorry about how this ended.
Michael: I am sorry it went this far. It's been 20 years! You gotta let it go. You--
Chris: No, I can't. I won't.
Nick: Where's Summer?
Phyllis: What--where-- where is she? Is she okay?
Adam: She, uh, she's--she's in there. She's with a doctor. I-I-I don't know how she is, but, uh, you can't go in there.
Phyllis: Why can't I go in? Is she hurt?
Adam: I--they haven't told me anything. I don't--I don't know.
Nick: Were you there? Did you do this to her? What did you do to her?
Phyllis: Oh, my God, Nick!
Adam: Hey, listen to me. Your daughter was driving like a maniac. She almost killed my wife and me.
Avery: Have you seen Phyllis?
Ronan: She went to the hospital. Summer's been in an accident.
Avery: What? Was it serious?
Ronan: I-I don't know. They won't tell me any more on the phone. They're--
Avery: I'm on my way.
Kevin: Nice break for Phyllis.
Ronan: And you... considering that you were about to bust up on the stand.
Kevin: I was under oath, Ronan.
Ronan: Well, thank goodness it didn't have to go there. Now no one's the wiser and we can all move on with our lives.
Kevin: Well, that's not exactly the case.
Ronan: What are you talking about?
Kevin: Michael knows that I helped Phyllis move her shrink's corpse, and he knows that you lied about being with her the night the doctor died.
Ronan: (Growling) You little weasel, I told you specifically--
Chloe: I know--okay, listen, it wasn't his fault, okay? I was the one who told Michael the truth.
Ronan: We talked about this. You couldn't keep your mouth shut about it?
Chloe: Yeah, because I wasn't gonna let Kevin take the fall for Phyllis' mistakes. I was gonna protect my husband.
Ronan: You're a lucky guy.
Kevin: (Exhales sharply) Yeah, I know.
Michael: Where is he going in such a rush?
Kevin: My guess is anywhere you're not, which is where I'm headed.
Michael: Kevin. I was doing my job.
Kevin: If my job was to use my brother to crucify my best friend, I'd find a new line of work.
Michael: I was trying to keep you from committing perjury.
Kevin: Please. I think that you're just concerned about your image and your career.
Michael: I've bailed you out more times than I can count. I have stood by you when no one else would.
Kevin: We're not talking about the past, though.
Michael: Oh, now you want to blame me because you got caught doing something illegal.
Kevin: (Scoffs) I moved a dead body, Michael. I didn't kill anyone.
Michael: You broke the law! You broke the law. You should be thanking me for not throwing your butt in jail.
Kevin: (Laughs) So I owe you?
Michael: Yes, you owe me.
Lauren: O-okay. All right, Guys, come on. The trial is over. Let's just... put it behind us.
Michael: What do you say?
Kevin: I say, go to hell.
Lauren: Kevin--
Chloe: You know what? Why don't you just give him some time? I'm sure he'll come around.
Lauren: She's right, you know.
Michael: (Sighs) Who cares? Who cares? They say a good lawyer knows the answer before he asks the question. There's no unexpected consequences, no surprises. Everything should be logical. Everything should be predictable.
Lauren: (Chuckles) Well, when has that ever been the truth, huh?
Michael: Ooh. Well, mm... lately... (Chuckles) Almost never.
Lauren: So things didn't go as you planned today... but they turned out for the best, don't you think?
Michael: I dare not even hazard a guess. It's been a long time since I've felt that I wasn't wearing the right hat... but this...this isn't feeling right.
Lauren: You know I was never crazy about you taking this D.A. job.
Michael: Yeah, I remember.
Lauren: But, my darling... you can wear any hat you want.
Michael: (Chuckles) Really?
Lauren: Mm-hmm.
Michael: Well, 'cause I was thinking of becoming an exotic dancer.
Lauren: (Laughs)
Michael: Bow chikka bow bow.
Lauren: Interesting.
Michael: Yeah. Mm-hmm.
Lauren: Hmm, very, but actually, I was thinking about something else. I need you to put on your loving father cap. Fen needs you.
Paul: It's gotta catch up with her eventually. I mean, the universe won't let her get away with this kind of thing forever.
Chris: It doesn't matter.
Paul: It doesn't matter? I thought you were so determined to see her punished for what she did to us.
Chris: No, I still am. We're gonna make her pay. You and me, together.
Adam: Chelsea and I were on our way to the airport. A car from the other direction swerved into our lane. It was Summer. She ran us off the road, nearly hit us. She hit a tree.
Phyllis: Oh, my God.
Adam: Yeah, I-I pulled her out of the car. She's--she was a little banged up.
Nick: So you called the ambulance?
Adam: Okay, we were out by the lake, so I figured it was better if we just brought her in.
Nick: You brought her here?
Adam: Yeah.
Phyllis: Thank--thank you, Adam. Thank you very much.
Nick: Thank you for doing that. It means a lot.
Adam: I'm sure you'd have done the same. I hope she's all right. I'm gonna go check on my wife.
Phyllis: Oh, my God. Oh, my God.
Doctor: Mr. and Mrs. Newman?
Phyllis: Yes, yes. How's Summer?
Nick: Is she okay?
Doctor: Some cuts and bruises, but she's fine. We'd like to keep her overnight for observation.
Phyllis: Oh, my God.
Nick: Can we see her?
(Door opens)
Phyllis: Summer, Baby. Hey.
Summer: Oh, Mom, Dad, hi. I was so scared.
Nick: We know.
Summer: I thought that-- I thought that I was gonna die.
Phyllis: You're okay, right? You're okay. Everyone's okay.
(Knock on door)
Adam: Paging Mrs. Newman and baby.
Chelsea: (Sniffling)
Adam: What?
Chelsea: (Sniffles) (Voice breaking) The baby... (Sniffling) (Sniffles)
Adam: When I left you, you felt fine. What happened?
Chelsea: The doctor said... (Sniffles) This early on in a--in a pregnancy, sometimes you can't feel it when something's wrong.
Adam: (Sniffles) Was it the car accident? Is that what caused it?
Chelsea: He couldn't say for sure.
Adam: That had to be the reason.
Chelsea: Sometimes, you know, sometimes things like this just happen.
Adam: No, no, no. This wasn't your fault. I'm sorry I wasn't there for you.
Chelsea: No. (Sniffles) You couldn't have done anything, not for me or him.
Adam: Him?
Chelsea: It was a boy. (Sniffling)
Eden: Well, I've been holding down the fort by myself all night. Do you mind if I take a break, crash in your office for awhile?
Kevin: Sure, go ahead.
Eden: Thank you.
Chloe: So... look, what happened back at the courthouse, I--
Kevin: Let's just drop it, okay?
Chloe: I don't want to take Michael's side, but...
Kevin: Then don't.
Chloe: I think he was just trying to do what was best for you.
Kevin: Oh, by forcing me to admit I committed a crime?
Chloe: But it never got to that point.
Kevin: Yeah, yeah, because the judge collapsed. (Scoffs) You had absolutely no right, going to Michael behind my back.
Chloe: But technically, he came to me first.
Kevin: (Sighs) I have to be able to trust you, Chloe. If I can't, then I don't know what kind of marriage this is.
Kevin: You're not pissed at me?
Daniel: Is there a reason I should be pissed at you?
Kevin: (Exhales slowly) I don't know, I just thought you were upset because I took the stand against Phyllis.
Daniel: The thing with my mom, it's, um... complicated. Um, maybe it's time we all just put it behind us, huh? Excuse me. Hey.
Heather: Hey.
Daniel: I was worried about you.
Heather: I'm sorry.
Daniel: What are you sorry for?
Heather: How about calling your best friend to testify against your mother in an attempted murder trial?
Daniel: Well, it happens all the time. You were just doing your job, and... it still doesn't change the way I feel about you.
Heather: You knew this whole time, didn't you, that your mom was guilty?
Daniel: Well, I'm just glad it's over. You know, now, hopefully, life's gonna get a whole lot simpler.
Summer: Please, just don't pretend like you actually care.
Phyllis: I know you're upset at me, but right now, we have to pull together as a family. You got that?
Summer: You think that just because I was in some stupid car accident, that we're all good? Okay, this doesn't change anything. (Scoffs) I still hate you.
Nick: Summer!
Summer: What? It's true. Okay, first she gets arrested for attempted murder, and then she cheats on you. Okay, she was the reason I was so messed up that I crashed my car.
Nick: You don't get to blame your mother for your bad behavior.
Summer: (Scoffs) Like mother, like daughter. At least I just ran into a tree.
Nick: You were reckless and irresponsible, and you are very lucky that no one was seriously hurt.
Summer: (Sighs) This is the worst day of my life.
Phyllis: I-I have good news, at least. All the charges against me were dropped. I'm free.
Summer: Yay, I feel so much better.
(Door opens)
Avery: Okay if I come in?
Nick: (Sighs) Yeah, Avery, sure.
Avery: Hi, Sweetie. I was worried about you.
Summer: It's nice to know that someone was.
Phyllis: Um, she's-- she's fine. We're doing fine.
Avery: Good. That's good news.
Summer: Yeah, I'm so excited to go back to prison.
Avery: How you guys holdin' up? Heart rates back to normal?
Nick: (Sighs) Almost.
Avery: Well, uh, if you need anything...
Nick: Thank you. Thanks for stopping by.
Avery: Mm-hmm. Yeah, I just wanted to check in. Uh, I will call you.
Summer: Yeah, well, you're gonna have to send a letter. They took my phone.
Phyllis: I'm gonna walk you out.
Avery: Uh, Leslie wanted me to give this to you.
Phyllis: What's going on between you and my husband?
Avery: Nothing is going on between Nick and me.
Phyllis: Mm, didn't look that way, didn't feel that way.
Avery: Well, I think that your imagination and apparently your senses are running wild.
Phyllis: So you just dropped everything and rushed on over here?
Avery: Oh, my God. My niece was in an accident. Ronan told me, by the way. He was very worried about you.
(Cell phone rings)
Avery: Excuse me. Avery Bailey Clark. Mm-hmm.
Phyllis: Thank you for standing up for me with Summer.
Nick: When it comes to our daughter, we have to stick together.
Phyllis: Um... we should talk about this. Do you--do you want to go for a bite and--and discuss what we're gonna do about Summer? And maybe we can... (Sighs) Toast to my being free.
Nick: You're gonna have to do that alone. I didn't want to break things off while you were on trial, but that's over, and so are we.
Phyllis: You don't mean that.
Nick: I'm filing for divorce. You'll be hearing from my lawyer.
Adam: Okay, just come sit down.
Chelsea: (Laughs) Adam, its okay, I'm not--
Adam: I'm gonna get rid of this book...
Chelsea: No, no.
Adam: The magazines.
Chelsea: No, it's okay. We'll need this... someday. Just not today.
Adam: We'll try again, when you're ready. We'll be arguing over baby names in no time.
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Adam: I'm just glad you're okay.
Chelsea: I-I completely forgot to ask. Um, how's Summer?
Adam: A few bumps and bruises. She'll be okay.
Chelsea: Pretty, rich, and lucky. (Chuckles) Some people really do have it all, huh?
Adam: Seems that way.
Fen: Oh, I-I came by to see how Summer was.
Phyllis: Oh. Oh, no.
Fen: Hi.
Phyllis: Okay, you shouldn't have any visitors.
Summer: Then you go.
Phyllis: I'm not leaving.
Summer: Okay, am I gonna have to call someone to throw you out? (Winces) Aah, ow!
Fen: Summer, Summer, Summer.
Phyllis: Okay, Summer, come on. Just come on.
Summer: Just go, okay? You're making it worse.
Phyllis: All right, I'll go...
Summer: (Sighs)
Phyllis: But I'm coming back, okay?
Summer: Yeah, I can hardly wait.
Phyllis: I love you.
Summer: Whatever.
Fen: Wow. (Chuckles) That was... intense. (Laughs)
Summer: She's so spoiled. She... always gets her way.
Fen: You okay? Look, I-I'm sorry I ditched you before. This might not have happened if I'd just gone with you.
Summer: No, I'm okay. I totaled my car, but I'll just get Grandpa to buy me a new one. This time, I'll ask for something fast so we can go racing.
Fen: Maybe. (Laughs)
Summer: What, you don't want to go racing? Are you a chicken?
Fen: Hey. It's not that. (Sighs) My parents... they think you're a bad influence on me.
Summer: (Laughs) That's sick! What, is it gonna stop you from hanging out with me?
Fen: I'm sorry.
Adam: Here you go.
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Adam: I am going to, uh, gonna run to the store, get you some of those ramen noodles you love so much.
Chelsea: (Chuckles) Hurry back, okay?
Adam: I will. It's gonna be okay.
Lauren: Well--
Fen: Sorry I'm late.
Lauren: It's so unlike you. Where were you?
Fen: I...
Gloria: It's the kale, isn't it? That's why you're eating here instead of at Gloworm, the restaurant your mother owns.
Michael: We just thought we'd spend a little family time together.
Fen: You're family, Grandma. Join us.
Michael: I'm sure that Gloria has places to go, people she needs to meet, Fenmore.
Gloria: No, I don't. Thank you, Fen. (Chuckles)
Lauren: Okay, now you were just about to tell us where you were.
Gloria: Oh.
Fen: I went to see Summer at the hospital.
Gloria: What is all this about?
Fen: Mom and Dad are freaked out 'cause Summer smashed up her car.
Gloria: (Gasps) Is she all right?
Fen: Yeah, she's fine.
Michael: We're glad to hear that.
Lauren: Yes, yes, of course. But, Sweetheart, that's why we don't want you hanging around her right now.
Fen: So you want me to ditch my friend 'cause she's going through a rough time?
Michael: Watch your tone. Listen, Fenmore, um... we just want you to take a break from Summer, do--spend some time with some of your other friends. That's all.
Fen: Yeah, you can't tell me who I can and can't see.
Lauren: Are you seeing Summer?
Fen: Forget this. I'm out of here.
Lauren: What?
Fen: Bye.
Michael: We are not done.
Lauren: No.
Michael: Fenmore!
Lauren: Fen--
Chris: In a civil case, the burden of proof is on the defendant, which means Phyllis would have to prove herself innocent rather than--
Paul: Chris, Chris, slow down a second.
Chris: No we have to move on this now.
Paul: (Sighs) I'm not sure I want to move on it at all.
Chris: You can't be serious.
Paul: Look, maybe the judge's ruling today was a sign. You know, maybe we should let it go.
Chris: (Gasps) And give Phyllis a free pass for trying to kill us? Don't you want justice?
Phyllis: (Sighs)
(Knock on door)
Ronan: Double cheeseburgers and onion rings. Perfect for celebrating or for cheering up. How's Summer?
Phyllis: She's okay, as long as I'm not in the room. You know, it seems to make her blood pressure boil.
Ronan: Teenage girl, and you're her mother. That seems like its par for the course, right? So cheering up, then?
Phyllis: I wouldn't be very good company.
Ronan: I could be good company for both of us.
Nick: If you're looking for my dad, he's not here.
Avery: No, I came to see you. How you holdin' up?
Nick: I've been better. I told Phyllis I was filing for divorce.
Avery: I'm sorry.
Nick: Are you?
Avery: She asked me what was going on between you and me.
Nick: What did you tell her?
Avery: I told her there's nothing between us.
Nick: Of course not. That's why you're here so late, checking on my mental state.
Avery: Look, I just came to see if you were okay... and I should go.
Nick: Or... you could stay... and have a drink with me.
Phyllis: So what are you getting out of this? You know, besides grief from my daughter. Smashed-up car.
Ronan: Yeah. (Chuckles)
Phyllis: Now that Michael knows you lied for me, possibly a smashed-up career.
Ronan: Do I look worried?
Phyllis: No.
Ronan: See, the way I see it, I'm way ahead in this game, 'cause, I mean, I've got double cheeseburgers. I've got a beautiful woman to eat them with, and, hey, well, she's not going to prison. So I say that's Malloy, 3, and all the crappy stuff, 0.
Phyllis: Did you bring mayo to put on the burgers?
Ronan: (Scoffs) Do you think I'd come here without it?
Phyllis: Um...game over. You win.
(Bag rustles)
Michael: First, he storms out of here, now he's ignoring my calls. He's gonna regret both.
Lauren: All right, maybe he just needs time to cool off.
Michael: Well, he'll have plenty of time-- two weeks in his room, no computer, no phone.
Lauren: Uh, that may not give us the result we need.
Michael: It'll keep him away from Summer.
Lauren: Let me give you a page from my "Teenage-dom," and that is the more we try and do that, the more ways he's gonna try and make it happen.
Gloria: She's right, you know. For every parental punishment, there is an equal and opposite reaction from a teenager.
Michael: There, Gloria's on your side. That should tell you something.
Paul: I let my son grow up to be a killer. Innocent people lost their lives. I shot my son to save Eden, and I may go to prison for it. So look, Chris, where is the justice in any of this?
Chris: Okay, and what does that have to do with making Phyllis pay?
Paul: I don't know. Maybe nothing. I just don't want to see anyone else suffer. And isn't that the point of going after Phyllis? I'm sorry. I can't do it.
Daniel: You know, now that you're not prosecuting my mom anymore, we don't have to sneak around to see each other.
Heather: There's still Daisy to consider.
Daniel: Yes, and I'm gonna keep looking for her for Lucy's sake, but... my marriage is done.
Heather: So... there's nothing stopping us from officially becoming an official... couple.
Daniel: Then maybe we should make it official.
Eden: The weirdest thing just happened.
Kevin: You look like you've seen a ghost.
Eden: Does Ricky count?
Chloe: For real?
Eden: Well, I laid down to take a nap. I-I don't know-- I don't know if I was dreaming or remembering or both. Um, and it--it didn't all make sense, but I really-- I think I can help Paul.
Heather: You have to talk to him.
Chelsea: Adam... the car. Watch out! (Gasps) (Breathing rapidly) (Sighs) (Sighs) (Sniffles) (Sighs) (Sighs) (Sighs) (Sniffles) "Reilly." That's nice. (Sighs) (Sniffles) Reilly Newman. (Voice breaks) (Sobs) (Sobbing) (Gasping) (Sobbing)
Nick: What should we drink to?
Avery: Um, I don't know. I don't know. What do you think?
Nick: How about new beginnings?
(Glasses clink)
Avery: (Exhales quickly) What is it that you want to begin?
(Door opens)
Adam: I've been looking for you.
Nick: What do you want?
Adam: The accident caused Chelsea to lose the baby. Your daughter killed my son.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Chelsea: It was a baby, Summer, and now he's gone because of you!
Nikki: I just don't understand why Jack hasn't made his move yet.
Victor: He's a show boater.
Adam: I sold you my shares. I'm Team Jack.
