Episode # 9953 ~ Adam & Chelsea Prepare for Their Wedding
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Chelsea: Mm. (Chuckles) I love that.
Adam: What, my tender gaze of affection?
Chelsea: (Chuckles) Mmm, the smell of hot java. Ohh.
Adam: So... (Sighs) What do you, uh, what do you think you might do today? Any special plans?
Chelsea: Mm... not really. You?
Adam: Uh, I don't know. I thought maybe I might get married.
Chelsea: Oh, yeah. That's nice.
Adam: Yeah.
Chelsea: Yeah, I was thinking more about just, you know, mm, staying in bed all day.
Adam: Yeah?
Chelsea: Yeah, but I don't want to do it alone, so...
Adam: I like this idea.
Chelsea: Mm-hmm.
Adam: I do, but wait.
Chelsea: (Giggles)
Adam: I love this idea, but I'd like my plan to happen first.
Chelsea: Okay.
Adam: But maybe, just for a second, we can do a little more of this.
Chelsea: (Chuckles)
Adam: Okay, now it's time-- one more.
Chelsea: (Laughing)
Adam: Just a couple more kisses, and then... then I'll--
Chelsea: (Squeals, laughs)
[Sharon remembering]
Adam: I do love you. There's a part of me that always will, but I love Chelsea more.
(Cell phone rings)
(Shower running)
Victor: How was your trip to new York?
(Rhythmic knocking on door)
Noah: Hello.
Summer: Wow. You get lost on your way to Greenwich Village?
Noah: Ohh! That's a good joke. Bring it in.
Summer: Hey.
Noah: So I talked to Grandpa last night.
Summer: He told you about my mom?
Noah: Yes, yes, he did, and then I talked to Dad, and he said everything would be okay, like, ten times.
Summer: Why do they think that works?
Noah: (Vibrates lips) I have no idea. That's why I booked a flight, and here I am.
Summer: I'm meeting Dad now. You can surprise him and find out how not-fine things are.
Nick: Avery texted that your mom's out on bail, and Avery will make sure she gets home.
Daniel: Meaning you're not picking her up.
Nick: She's gonna be okay.
Daniel: Just exactly how pissed off are you at her?
Nick: It's a pretty big lie to tell us, or at least, a huge secret to keep all these years.
Daniel: You know, Mom ran into me and Lucy right before she got arrested. She was telling me how... comfortable Lucy felt with her, how trusting she was, just like me when I was a kid, and she apologized for disappointing me. It got to me, you know? 'Cause I was like, how could I lose faith in her now, when she's always been there for me, and now is the time that she needs me the most? Then I realized it's all just a head game. You know, she's gonna use Lucy to--to make me feel guilty because I'm not there to support her. I think that she likes playing the guilt card, and I don't think she really needs anybody at all.
Avery: Okay, that should be it. My client is free to go.
Chris: Your client has no business being out on the streets.
Phyllis: Hey. Thanks for handling the paperwork.
Avery: Mm-hmm.
Phyllis: This means I can go when my ride is here?
Chris: Well, keep looking. No one came here to celebrate your release, and why would they? They just found out exactly what you are.
Phyllis: You were always the most self-righteous person I ever met, Christine.
Chris: And you are more self-serving and vicious than ever. Oh, and deluded. You actually thought you could outrun your past?
Avery: Keep up the personal attacks and the judge will hear about it. I'm sure the D.O.J. manual has some chapter on maintaining objectivity. You should read it.
Chris: I don't have to be objective. I'm not here as a lawyer. I'm here as the victim of attempted murder, and I wanted to look my attacker in the eye.
Avery: Okay, just-- you're gonna go home, you're gonna take a cab. Do not look at her. Do not talk to her. I will see you soon. Go on.
Nick: If your mom is reaching out to you and Lucy, that's not a head game. She needs you two, and if you were there for her, it'd make a big difference.
Daniel: Wait a minute. Everything that Daisy pulled made her unfit, and I'm not arguing that. I'm not, all right? But I mean, Mom and the car, and--and what, now I'm supposed to stand behind her, stand by her side, be there for her? Come on.
Nick: How many times has she been there for you, Daniel? And Lucy-- she loves this little girl as much as she loves anyone in this world. That's not a manipulation. That is the truth. Now your mom brought all this on herself, but it doesn't mean she doesn't need help getting through it.
Daniel: (Chuckles) You're killing me, Nick.
Nick: Look, I know you love your mother. What she's facing is bad, and it could get a lot worse.
Daniel: All right. I'll take Lucy to go and see her.
Adam: Okay, I get it. I can take it. This is some kind of commentary on how long it takes me to get ready, do my hair, get dressed, and you can start later than me and probably beat me to it, right?
Chelsea: (Laughs) You and your hair are kind of mesmerizing. It's like performance art.
Adam: I know, right? Should we put that in our vows? You promise to love, honor, and cherish my do?
Chelsea: Well, yeah, that's a given.
Adam: Okay, "Miss Tradition," you want to, uh, put your dress on at the church, get in your fineries before the big moment, I don't have to see?
Chelsea: Exactly. The big moment.
Adam: Oh. I can see you're enthusiastic.
Chelsea: (Scoffs)
Adam: You haven't touched any of your breakfast.
Chelsea: What are you doing?
Adam: Nothing.
Chelsea: What? (Squeals)
Adam: I'm checking to see if you have cold feet.
Chelsea: (Laughing) What are you doing? Okay, stop!
Sharon: Um, I was going to call you.
Victor: (Chuckles) Just tell me the truth.
Sharon: I found out that Adam and Chelsea were here to elope, and I came to ask Adam to call off the wedding.
Victor: You asked him to call off the wedding to Chelsea, um, for you, right? Mm-hmm. Did he?
Sharon: No. Adam loves Chelsea and he is going to marry her.
Victor: Mm-hmm. So he rejected you?
Sharon: Yes, yes. Um, he says that he cares about me, but not enough.
Victor: Uh-huh. You know, Sharon, I asked you to be honest with me, okay? I asked you to move in with me, and you said you would need some time to think about it. And I gave you that time, and then you said you had to go to New York to see Noah. I found out that you didn't go to New York at all. You came here, to this farm in Kansas, where Hope raised Adam. You know, this ain't gonna work unless we're honest with each other.
Summer: Tell us what's going on with Mom today, and for real.
Nick: It's not good.
Summer: They said attempted murder, but that can't be right.
Nick: Sit down.
Summer: Okay, we're sitting. It was Paul Williams and that Christine and a hit-and-run?
Nick: Yeah, a long time ago, when Daniel was a kid. There is some evidence that is linking Phyllis to the accident. She's out on bail right now, and your Aunt Avery is gonna do everything she can to keep her out of jail.
Summer: Okay.
Noah: Phyllis has already been released?
Summer: Where is she?
Nick: She might already be home.
Summer: Why aren't you with Mom already? My God, Dad... do you think Mom did it?
Chris: And, uh, give me a break with the personal attack garbage. You're representing your sister. Exactly how objective are you being?
Avery: I don't need to be objective. My job is to prove that my sister doesn't deserve to be convicted. You, meanwhile, as you said, are the alleged victim in this case. You're not operating as a-- as a functioning representative of the D.O.J. You're actually here representing your ex-husband in a completely unrelated case. So leave Phyllis alone or I will go to the judge.
Chris: How strange for you, to spend years fighting for the truly innocent, and then you have to defend Phyllis. I-- I'm amazed you can even keep a straight face.
Daniel: Hey.
Avery: Oh, wow. This will mean the world to Phyllis that you guys came-- hi--only she just left.
Daniel: Well, that's actually kind of good. I mean, we can talk about worst-case scenario without her around.
Avery: Okay, the worst case is not gonna happen. I will do everything I can to make sure your mother does not go to jail.
Daniel: Would you be honest and just let me know what kind of sentence she could be facing?
Avery: Based on federal guidelines, if she were convicted, it could mean life.
Daniel: You believe in her? I mean, could you fight as hard or harder for her as--as any other client you have for--in the past?
Avery: Why wouldn't I fight?
Daniel: I don't know, maybe you wouldn't bother if you thought that you couldn't win.
Avery: Why wouldn't I win?
[Daniel remembering]
Phyllis: Honestly, I didn't mean to hurt them.
Daniel: (Scoffs) Oh, my God. (Chuckles)
Phyllis: I swear it was an accident.
Daniel: Trials are tricky. Nothing's a lock, right?
Avery: Daniel, are you telling me that you think your mother is guilty?
Adam: If the toes are cold, I can help. Get you a heating pad, a hot-water bottle, whatever it takes.
Chelsea: You got a call while you were in the shower. I didn't answer it, but it made me a little, um... the caller I.D. came up.
Adam: Sharon.
Chelsea: Were you expecting her to call?
Adam: Yes and no. She was here--she was. She showed up at the farm last night.
Chelsea: She came all the way here, to your house? Here, in Kansas, before our wedding?
Adam: All of the above. I didn't tell you. I didn't want you to get upset.
Chelsea: (Scoffs) Do I even have to ask what she wanted?
Adam: Yes, Reverend Bennett, this is Adam Newman. Um, something's come up. I...okay. Thank you. Yeah, I know, it's last-minute. I'm sorry. Thank you.
Chelsea: (Sighs) Did you just call off the wedding?
Adam: What, do you think I'm some kind of self-sabotaging moron who doesn't know a good thing when he sees it? Don't answer that question, by the way.
Chelsea: (Chuckles)
Adam: No, I'm not calling off the wedding. I'm throwing a Hail Mary. I don't want you to leave me at the altar. (Sighs) Why don't you get your stuff, get everything, get your dress? We're gonna take off.
Chelsea: Uh, why? You gonna give Sharon my dress?
Adam: Mm, funny.
Chelsea: (Laughing)
Adam: Let's just forget her name, okay? Please, just grab your dress. We're gonna leave. We're going to the farm.
Victor: You've lied to me by going behind my back. That's one thing Victor Newman doesn't like. I don't like to be made a fool of.
Sharon: Yes, it was careless and it was rash, but think of all the moments that you and Nikki have had together. It's not as though I've had your full attention, and I understand that, and we're both adults.
Victor: Nikki came to me and asked me where I stand, and I told her honestly. And now you have told me, in a roundabout way, where you stand.
Sharon: (Sighs) When you asked me to move in with you, I took that very seriously. That's a very big step, so, yes, I-I had a moment, wondering what my future really is, and... now I know what it isn't, and that's half the battle.
Victor: What are you gonna do?
Sharon: I'm sorry I doubted us, and I hope that that is enough for you.
Victor: Car's outside.
Avery: Do you know something, Daniel, about the accusations against your mother?
Daniel: Innocent until proven guilty, right?
Avery: Yes, I've based my life on that. It's why I'm one of the best at what I do. I'm here for her as her lawyer and as her sister, but I am telling you, she's gonna need her whole family to get through this.
Daniel: And we'll be there for her. At least, some of us will.
Summer: Oh, my God, you do. You think Mom did it, and if even you think that, then the jury will totally think that, and Mom will go to prison.
Nick: (Sighs) Summer, I didn't say that.
Summer: (Scoffs) I should have left town when you offered. You could still take me to New York. I swear, you won't even know I'm there.
Noah: (Scoffs)
Nick: Can you help me out with this?
Noah: (Sighs) Look, you can go to New York if Dad says that's cool and you really want to, but we don't know if Phyllis did any of this. Do we?
Nick: I'm not implying anything. Whatever Phyllis has or hasn't done, does that stop Mom from being your mom? Does it erase the way she loves you or the way her head explodes when you're sick or upset? How about when she took you off to Europe when you got out of the hospital, to get you healthy and back on track? If any of us were in trouble, where do you think your mom would be?
Summer: With us.
Nick: She'd be right here, defending us, protecting us, making sure we knew that she loved us, so to bail on her now-- is that a mistake you're willing to make?
Phyllis: Summer? Nick? (Sighs)
Adam: All right, this is it.
Chelsea: Ohh!
Adam: Every ding in every doorjamb, every nick of paint, it's all compliments of yours truly.
Chelsea: Oh, wow. (Inhales sharply) Am I being weird, or do I smell Sharon's perfume? (Inhales sharply) What is this? (Scoffs) She was just here. She spent the night. (Sighs)
Adam: Well, if she was just here, she's now gone. Sharon knows she doesn't belong here.
Chelsea: (Sighs) I know all of the time that you two spent here together was really important. I know all the things that happened to you while you were here. (Sighs) You told me that we wouldn't be able to be together now, like this, if those things hadn't happened, and I am trying to be the bigger person and be really happy that Sharon has helped you become the man that you are. But I have to be honest with you. I'm a petty woman, and it really bothers me that she was here. I mean, seriously? Seriously?!
Adam: Easy, Tiger, all right?
Chelsea: (Stammering)
Adam: Do you feel better now?
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Adam: Listen, look around. This place, the barn, the corral...
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Adam: This is not Sharon. This is my mom, and it's all I have left of her.
Chelsea: She was a really sweet woman, wasn't she?
Adam: Yeah, she was. She was also very tough. She was not a pushover. She was a steel magnolia.
Chelsea: Mm.
Adam: I didn't realize how tough she was until I was full-on blind myself.
Chelsea: When you were here with Sharon.
Adam: Sharon helped get me here, yes, but that means she helped lead me to you, and for that, I will be eternally grateful, because you, Woman, are... you're more than I ever expected I could ever have.
Chelsea: It really is beautiful here.
Adam: It is. It's Norman Rockwell, Baby.
Chelsea: (Laughs)
Adam: And right here, where we're standing... (Sniffs) This is where we're gonna say "I do." Reverend Bennett, Mrs. Bennett, come in. Thank you both for coming. I know this isn't usually how you do things.
Mrs. Bennett: Oh, but we're happy, for Hope.
Adam: Yeah, you know, I was just, uh, I was just talking to Chelsea about my mom. I know it's a little bit last-minute, but...
Reverend Bennett: Are you sure you know what you're doing?
Adam: I do, indeed, Reverend Bennett, I do.
Mrs. Bennett: (Chuckles)
Adam: Yeah, my wife-to-be, she's, uh...
Chelsea: Hi.
Adam: Chelsea.
Chelsea: Hi. Thank you for coming. I'm Chelsea.
Mrs. Bennett: Aren't you just precious?
Chelsea: (Laughs)
Adam: (Sighs) Like a fuzzy little kitten with a ball of yarn. Let's do this.
Chelsea: Okay.
Mrs. Bennett: Here.
Chelsea: Thank you.
Mrs. Bennett: Mm-hmm.
Reverend Bennett: Dearly beloved...
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Reverend Bennett: We're gathered here in the sight of God to celebrate this man and this woman...
Phyllis: Came home to an empty house.
Avery: Not for long.
Phyllis: Hi. Hi!
Daniel: Lucy, um, she needs some hugs. Apparently, I'm subpar in that department, but I'm working on it, right?
Phyllis: Hi, Pretty.
Daniel: Here you go.
Phyllis: Hi, Pretty. Hey. Ohh! Your daddy is really a great guy.
Avery: Well, I don't think Daniel came as Lucy's driver.
Daniel: I'm here for you, whatever you need.
Phyllis: Thank you. Your daddy's a great guy. I was right. Everything's better when you guys are here.
Daniel: You know, I saw Nick earlier, and, um, he's been thinking about you.
Phyllis: Oh, I'm sure he has.
Nick: Initially, I did think it was a good idea for you to get out of town. There's gonna be a lot of talk, a lot of questions, but, Summer, I think you're old enough now to handle this.
Summer: What am I supposed to say when people talk about Phyllis Newman, who attempted murder?
Nick: You say she's your mother and that you love her and you're gonna stand by her no matter what, just like she would do for us. So... can you stick around a little while longer?
Noah: (Scoffs) And babysit Supergirl? Yeah, I guess.
Summer: That's ridiculous. I spent the summer looking after kids.
Nick: I think he was kidding.
Noah: (Laughs)
Summer: Oh.
Nick: All right, you ready to go see your mom?
Summer: (Sighs) Just a second. You had my mom arrested in public, in front of her own family. (Scoffs) No matter what you think she did to you, you didn't have to do that to her, to us.
Noah: Come on.
Nick: Okay, enough.
Summer: You said to stick up for Mom, and I'm going to.
Noah: Come on.
Chris: I guess she takes after Phyllis.
Nick: She's a kid who loves her parents, no matter what.
Chris: You mean, even if Phyllis is guilty.
Nick: I didn't say that.
Chris: You didn't have to. The question is, who else knows?
Nick: Well, just so you know, you don't have consent to talk to my children anymore. In fact, I want you to stay away from anyone I care about.
Chris: It must be painful for you to realize that you never really knew Phyllis at all.
Nick: I know exactly who she is, Christine. I'm starting to figure out who you are, too.
Phyllis: Oh. Oh, my gosh. I'm so glad you're here. Oh!
Noah: Surprise.
Phyllis: Ohh. Well, my goodness. This day is full of surprises, isn't it? Hey, listen, um, what happened at the coffeehouse, I didn't-- I didn't want you to see that.
Summer: I can handle it.
Noah: Yeah, and we're more worried about you right now.
Phyllis: Thanks. You don't have to worry about me. We're--we're all together. We're almost the whole family. Well, almost everyone.
Summer: Well, I did almost run off to New York, but Dad talked me down.
Phyllis: Oh, did he? I'm glad. I'm gonna have to thank him later.
Nick: So did I miss all the hugs and kisses and whatnot?
Adam: Vow time, huh? That's a nice dress. Special occasion?
Chelsea: Some people might not get your sense of humor.
Adam: You're not some people. You're the person, my person.
Chelsea: Just because you saved my life one measly time. You give a guy an inch and--
Adam: Yeah, I know, he makes you marry him. I know. I suck.
Chelsea: (Chuckles) You do. All the irritating times you made me laugh, tortured me with G.E.D. flash cards... (Sighs) Helped me turn down $10 million. I'm starting to rethink this.
Adam: You love me.
Chelsea: Eh. Like the board loves waves. Do you love me?
Adam: Eh, yeah, like a mogul loves a good I.P.O.
Chelsea: (Laughs) That's hot. Sorry. (Chuckles)
Adam: You know, I can be a little cocky at times...
Chelsea: Shocking.
Adam: But I have enough sense to know a good thing when I found it, and I am lucky as hell. Sorry. (Sighs) This is not a fairy tale. There are no illusions, no delusions. It's just real life, and it's fan-damn-tastic. Sorry again. (Sighs) How crazy is this, huh? You like me, you really like me.
Chelsea: You might even call it love.
Adam: I will always, always love you.
Sharon: (Clears throat) It's, um, obvious you're still angry with me. Okay, well, I have some things upstairs. I'll just go get them. Victor, I've been honest with you. I would appreciate it if you'd be honest with me, as well.
Victor: Uh, what do you think I've lied about? (Clears throat)
Sharon: Well, you pretend that you don't have any feelings for Nikki, and that's a lie. It's a deception.
Victor: Well, it's no secret that Nikki and I had a long relationship.
Sharon: Victor... you can continue to be angry with me and stay stuck in this place, never getting past Nikki or Adam, or you can accept my apology that it was a mistake for me to lie about Kansas.
Victor: It was a mistake to lie, or a mistake to have gone there in the first place?
Sharon: Well, um... (Sighs) You know, I should have known better, but I didn't, and I went, but when I was in Kansas, I realized that my future is in front of me, not behind me, and I would like that to be with you. I think that we could have a very good future together, but we both know that's up to you.
Victor: Hmm.
Chris: Michael, its Chris. Listen, there is no way that Phyllis kept her mouth shut for all those years. She must have told someone about the hit-and-run. Now I want to question her family. Someone knows something.
Daniel: Why don't we show Summer and Noah your awesome dance moves, huh?
Phyllis: (Laughs)
Daniel: You want to show 'em? You want to show 'em how you move?
Phyllis: (Chuckles)
Noah: (Chuckles)
Phyllis: I was surprised to see you walk in. Maybe you--you-- you want to break it to Summer together, that--that you moved out. (Sighs) Listen, um... I don't blame you for leaving. I don't. You had every right. I-I never told you, and I'm not gonna-- I'm not gonna explain it. I'm not gonna get into that again, but we said we had no secrets, and I... I think I just blocked it out. I know that sounds like an excuse, but... I'm not that person anymore.
Nick: I know.
Phyllis: You do?
Nick: I know we've both changed. We've changed each other. And I didn't come here so we could break it to Summer. I came so we wouldn't have to. This is where I belong, Phyllis.
Phyllis: With our family?
Nick: With you. I love you.
Victor: I accept your apology. I think it's time to move on, okay?
Sharon: Together or apart?
Victor: Bonnie, would you kindly move Ms. Newman's things to the main house? No, to the guest room. That's right. Thank you.
Sharon: The guest room?
Victor: I suggest we take things one step at a time, all right?
Sharon: All right. That's fine with me.
Victor: Okay, then it's settled.
Chelsea: It fits.
Adam: Can I get an amen?
Chelsea: (Laughs)
Reverend Bennett: I now pronounce you husband and wife.
Adam: And I may now kiss the bride, right?
Chelsea: Yes. Yes, you may.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Phyllis: I'm ready to dive back in.
Billy: I'm gonna have to let you go.
Jack: I'm not going to resign from Jabot, Ash.
Ashley: I have to contact the board and have you removed.
Billy: Phyllis is gonna run over me with her car when I leave the office? Is that what she's gonna do?
