Chelsea: Oh, um, will you save room for the blow-dryer?
Adam: Uh, I figure they will have one at the bed-and-breakfast.
Chelsea: Oh, no. No, no. I'm not trusting my wedding hair to some borrowed, random, rinky-dink, travel-sized little--
Adam: All right, okay. I had temporary insanity here.
Chelsea: (Chuckles)
Adam: I-I will pack the blow-dryer
Chelsea: We have matching luggage. (Chuckles)
Adam: That we do.
Chelsea: I don't know why it's so funny to me. I don't-- I don't really know why. It's just that I've never really pictured myself at this stage of our relationship before.
Adam: Really? So you can picture yourself married to me, getting a house with me, but--matching luggage, huh?
Chelsea: Well, none of those things have happened yet. They don't seem as real somehow. People are gonna see us at the airport and just know that we belong together.
Adam: I like that.
Chelsea: Mm-hmm.
Adam: It's too bad we're not gonna have a house to come back to after the wedding.
Chelsea: Oh, that's okay. I'm a simple girl. I only need four rooms-- one at the St. Regis in New York, one at the Ritz in Paris...
Adam: Mm-hmm.
Chelsea: (Chuckles) The Splendido in Portofino, and one at the Oriental in Bangkok.
Adam: Hardy-har.
Chelsea: Mm-hmm, that's all.
Adam: You didn't mention anything about Leavenworth, Kansas.
Chelsea: Didn't I? Because I am very sure that very soon, that is gonna be one of my favorite places, too.
Sharon: I'm--I'm sorry. I think you just-- you caught me off guard. (Chuckles)
Victor: Why would you be surprised? You know how much I love spending time with you.
Sharon: But, y-you know, moving in together-- I just thought that we said we were gonna take things slow.
Victor: But we have. I think people already assume that you live here anyway.
Sharon: Yeah, probably.
Victor: You worried about what they think?
Sharon: There is some truth to that.
Victor: Uh-huh. Why don't you simply decide to do what's best for you?
Sharon: (Sighs) You know, you'd think by now, I wouldn't need anyone to tell me that.
Victor: Well, then, all right, then it's settled. As of today, you're the lady of the house.
Sharon: (Sighs) As much as I appreciate you asking this, I-I'm afraid I just can't say yes.
Victor: What are you worried about?
Chris: In case you're concerned, this situation with Phyllis isn't gonna distract me from your father's defense at all.
Heather: I'd like to believe that.
Chris: You can. Now I'm going to need your assistance. You've argued cases before Judge Rice before, haven't you?
Heather: He's been assigned to Dad's case?
Chris. But I filed with him earlier to have attempted murder charges brought against Phyllis.
Heather: Oh. And you need my help with...
Chris: Well, you know, just in case he throws out some loopholes, it would be nice to have someone from the D.A.'s office backing me up.
Heather: Well, Michael really has much more of a longstanding relationship with Judge Rice than I do.
Chris: Yeah, but--I know. Michael's relationship, though, with Phyllis makes it a little bit more awkward.
Heather: But Michael's my boss, so that makes it awkward for me, you know? Not to mention the fact that... he's banned me from the case.
Chris: Because you're Paul's daughter?
Heather: He thinks that it would compromise the integrity of the investigation in other people's eyes.
Chris: He has no say in this matter now that it's in the hands of the department of justice.
Heather: But since its with the D.O.J., doesn't that preclude my participation anyway?
Chris: Not if I request you. And I would think you'd want me to, considering Phyllis nearly murdered your father.
Heather: That hasn't been proven yet.
Chris: Exactly. I think it's time that it is.
Heather: (Sighs) Okay, do you have any reason to believe that the judge would object to your filing?
Chris: No, he shouldn't. However, Phyllis is a Newman, and that name carries a lot of weight in this town. Look, I'm gonna head back to the station. I'll call you if I need you.
Heather: Okay.
Daniel: There. Okay. (Groans) Hey. Luce, it's one of your favorite people.
Heather: It's 'cause I-- actually, I pay her on the side.
Daniel: Mm. I saw you talkin' to Christine in there.
Heather: Yeah.
Daniel: I'm guessing she's not gonna let bygones be bygones with my mom.
Heather: How long have you known about that?
Daniel: A little while now. Since everybody else seems to know about it, too, now, there's no point in pretending I don't.
Heather: Christine is really pushing for some kind of justice.
Daniel: Does she think there's a chance of getting it?
Heather: She's asked a judge to swear out an arrest warrant for attempted murder.
Avery: Hi. I heard you walked out on your wife. That didn't take long.
Nick: Look, I understand that you feel protective of your sister.
Avery: Mm-hmm. And last time we talked, so did you.
Nick: You know, Avery, there's more to this than I think you're aware of.
Avery: Okay, then explain to me how you justify breaking your wedding vows.
Nick: Breaking my--come on.
Avery: Yeah, yeah.
(Cell phone rings)
Avery: Were you just in this marriage for what you could get out of it, and the minute Phyllis needs you, you're gone?
Nick: (Sighs)
Phyllis: (Sighs) Okay you still don't want to talk to me. Thanks, Nick. (Sighs) Great. I need to be there when he speaks to Summer.
Victor: Are you saying you have never imagined before what life with me would be like?
Sharon: Of course.
Victor: But you want some time to think about it.
Sharon: Especially how this is going to affect my kids, you know? Because this-- this is a really big step.
Victor: Of course. I understand that, yeah.
Sharon: Thank you.
Victor: Something else is going on. What's bothering you?
Adam: Okay, you about ready?
Chelsea: Mm, I can't make a decision. None of them really say "Bride."
Adam: Well, I'm sure you'll look beautiful no matter what you're wearing.
Chelsea: (Chuckles) It doesn't matter. I guess just-- since I was a little girl, I always picture what my wedding would like, you know?
Adam: How'd you picture it?
Chelsea: Really traditional, actually. Maybe 'cause nothing in my life was or ever will be.
Adam: Uh, you decide. I'm gonna take off for a little bit.
Chelsea: Oh.
Adam: I gotta go do something. I'll be back.
Chelsea: Oh, well, uh, don't you miss the flight.
Adam: I'm not gonna miss the flight. Don't worry, okay? I'm gonna have the bellman get the bags, bring 'em downstairs. Meet me curbside, all right, Honey?
Chelsea: Okay. Okay.
Daniel: So I'm, uh, guessing you can't give me any details about the case.
Heather: Mnh-mnh, no. Just that Christine is totally focused on it.
Daniel: You don't sound too happy about that.
Heather: What? The fact that my dad's attorney isn't making him a priority when he's facing a first-degree murder charge?
Daniel: Mm. I see how that could be a bit of a problem.
Heather: Off the record, I hope that the judge doesn't swear out a warrant for your mom's arrest.
Daniel: Well, that would be one way of getting Chris' mind back on Paul.
Heather: You and Lucy wouldn't have to deal with a trial, and Paul would get the defense he deserves.
Daniel: Hopefully, they just drop the charges against him soon...
Heather: Mm.
Daniel: Or we may have to start a support group-- adult kids of parents in the slammer.
Heather: (Chuckles) I'd like that, as long as the membership doesn't grow any larger than the two of us.
Daniel: Oh, no. No, no, no. See, we're very exclusive.
Nick: You know, you don't know Phyllis very well or the issues we've been through. So you can act like you've been through the fire with her--
Avery: Okay, I'm here for her now, and I can't believe you're not. I know that you love her.
Nick: Yes, I do very much. But does that mean I'm supposed to take it in stride when she lies to my face?
Avery: Okay, Nick, she was scared, okay she was afraid that you would reject her, and apparently, she wasn't wrong about that.
Nick: (Sighs) You know, I don't appreciate the judgment. This is a very big deal. She could go to prison for a long time.
Avery: And I'm gonna work very hard to make sure that doesn't happen.
Nick: Just like I'm gonna make sure that our daughter gets through this, and Daniel and Lucy. It would have been nice to have some warning that this was coming. I asked Phyllis to her face.
Avery: Okay, listen. Anybody would understand that you're angry about this. I just don't understand how abandoning Phyllis right now helps anybody. It doesn't help Summer. You know, breaking up her family when everything else is happening I just--I-I hope you will reconsider.
Nick: (Sighs)
Phyllis: So you're here as a friend? But you look very official.
Ronan: Is that better?
Phyllis: Yeah. But anything I say can still be used against me, right?
Ronan: You're not under arrest, and I'm not the enemy. I'm here to help you any way that I can.
Nick: It's so good to see you.
Summer: Mm, you, too.
Nick: Where's all your stuff? Here, sit down.
Summer: The valet's gonna put it in your car.
Nick: I am so sorry that I wasn't at the airport to pick you up. I'm sorry.
Summer: It--I got in early. It was just as easy taking the shuttle. (Chuckles)
Nick: Tell me about camp. Did you love being a counselor?
Summer: I did. I got my first marriage proposal his name's Oliver. I believe he's 8. (Laughs)
Nick: Mm. Long-distance relationships, though.
Summer: It never works out. (Chuckles) Is Mom working late?
Nick: Uh... (Sighs) No.
Summer: Watching Lucy?
Nick: Your mom's dealing with some things.
Summer: Like what things? She's not sick, is she?
Nick: No, she's fine.
Summer: Good. (Sighs) You scared me.
Nick: These are more things that, uh, have to do with lawyers. Your mother made some poor choices, and now they're coming back to bite her.
Summer: Uh-oh. Is she being sued for libel or something 'cause of her blog?
Nick: It's a little more serious than that, but I'm gonna let her explain it to you, okay?
Summer: When you say "Serious," are we talking, like, illegal? Jail time?
Nick: It's possible.
Summer: (Scoffs) My God. I can't leave you people alone for five minutes.
Nick: Look, this happened a long time ago.
Summer: Do you realize this would mean within a year practically my whole family will have been locked up?
Phyllis: How would Christine feel about your being here? Or does she even know?
Ronan: No, she doesn't.
Phyllis: Why are you here sticking your neck out for me?
Ronan: Because I like you.
Phyllis: You like me?
Ronan: And I really do want to help you.
Phyllis: I don't know if you can. But it's nice to have someone in my corner.
(Cell phone rings) (Ring) (Ring)
Ronan: It's Malloy.
Chris: I'm expecting Phyllis' warrant to come in tonight, and I just want to make sure you're available.
Ronan: Yeah, I'll be around. Just let me know. Is that it?
Chris: That's it.
Ronan: All right.
Phyllis: Christine? How much time do I have?
Ronan: Not much.
Phyllis: I need to find my daughter. I need to find Summer. She's-- um, she doesn't know anything. Um, I don't know if Nick has already spoken to her. I just need to... (Sobs) Find-- find Summer. (Sighs)
Gloria: A house like this will give the owners instant prestige. I mean, the ranch-- it's comfy. It's well lived-in. But the mansion-- it's exquisite. It has that air of grandeur and majesty. And did you know Genevieve just redid the whole thing top to bottom?
Adam: You mentioned that.
Gloria: Mm. Regardless of how you feel about her business ethics, her taste is impeccable.
Adam: I agree, which is why a would like to--
Gloria: Mm--and-- and the private airstrip. For an investor such as yourself with far-reaching interest, it's almost a necessity.
Adam: Has its advantages, which is why I would like--
Gloria: Mm-hmm. And--and, Adam, I think wants to unload it.
Adam: Gloria.
Gloria: What?
Adam: I'll take the house.
Gloria: Good.
Adam: But we have to get this wrapped up. I'm headed out of town.
Gloria: Congratulations Adam. You're going to be very happy there. (Chuckles)
Sharon: Adam Newman's room, please.
Sharon: Oh, hello.
Chelsea: Hi. Looking for us?
Sharon: Um, well, I just-- I-I didn't like how we left things before.
Chelsea: Don't worry about it. Adam didn't give it another thought.
Sharon: Oh. So, um, where are you guys going? Where is he taking you? Tahoe? 'Cause that's where he brought me.
Chelsea: No, not there.
Sharon: New Orleans then?
Chelsea: Adam said he wanted to bring me someplace special, close to his heart, so... no, not those places.
Avery: They agreed to all your stipulations. And I made the revisions that you and Mr. Hongyi agreed to in his contract. You can read that at your leisure. And if there's nothing else...
Victor: Yes, there is. I want you to establish a trust for young John Abbott.
Avery: The new baby-- Victoria's son.
Victor: That's right. It's the same way it was set up for--for Reed, okay? With particular attention paid to the third provision.
Avery: Um...
Victor: Which is that Billy Abbott has no access ever-- has any access to their accounts, okay?
Avery: All right.
Victor: Are you not familiar with the contract?
Avery: No, but I will be right away.
Victor: Okay. Are you, um, taking on the defense of your sister Phyllis?
Avery: Yes, I am.
Victor: I see.
Lucy: Mama.
Phyllis: Hi. Are you waiting for Summer?
Daniel: Uh, no. I just came here to get my caffeine fix.
Heather: I should, uh, get back to work.
Daniel: All right, see you later.
Heather: Yeah, hopefully not tonight.
Daniel: (Sighs)
Phyllis: Was that about-- was that about me getting arrested? Is she involved in that?
Gloria: I will let you know as soon as the bank accepts your offer. And since I'm their agent, too, I can tell you it's a done deal.
Adam: Great, and you'll inform them that this has to remain confidential? I plan on surprising Chelsea with the house.
Gloria: Of course. Very romantic. Adam, the gardens of your new home would be a lovely spot for a wedding. And Chloe's a genius at wedding planning, and of course... Gloworm caters. (Chuckles)
Adam: You don't say.
Gloria: We could arrange the whole thing while you're out of town.
Adam: Actually, we're eloping, as in momentarily.
Gloria: Really? You don't waste any time do you?
Adam: Well, you can't let the good ones get away.
Gloria: Yeah, that's what I hear.
Adam: (Sighs)
Gloria: Adam, I wish you every happiness.
Adam: Thank you, Gloria. Listen this is going to be the number that I'm staying at. They said cell phone reception is shoddy.
Gloria: Area code 9-1-3?
Adam: Kansas.
Chelsea: Why are you taking such an interest in our wedding?
Sharon: It's just so sad to see you getting so sucked in. Either you don't understand what's going on with Adam, or you do and you're taking advantage.
Chelsea: (Scoffs) I'm taking advantage of Adam?
Sharon: Rescuing you from that lake-- that had a really big impact on him, and I'm not sure you realize it. It was the first time in a long time that Adam has felt like a hero instead of a pariah. And he wants to hold on to that feeling, so he's gone on rescuing you day after day, and I'm sure that makes you both feel really good, but it's not a solid foundation for a marriage. He's going to come to his senses at some point.
Chelsea: I think you have it exactly backwards, Sharon. Adam has come to his senses. That's why he's with me and not with you. So Adam doesn't really love me? Is that the fairy tale you tell yourself before you go to sleep at night? Well, not out loud, obviously, because then Adam's daddy would hear.
Sharon: This has nothing to do with my relationship with Victor.
Chelsea: Which is clearly on such solid ground.
Sharon: Oh--
Adam: There you are. I thought you'd gotten cold feet.
Chelsea: Not a chance.
Sharon: I hear you're eloping.
Adam: Exciting. Yes.
Sharon: Well, good luck to you.
Adam: Thanks.
Chelsea: (Sighs)
Adam: So what'd I miss?
Chelsea: Nothing worth mentioning.
Adam: Well, whatever she said, just don't let it get to you. Forget it.
Chelsea: Trust me-- already forgotten. Let's get out of here. We have an appointment with a Norman Rockwell painting, remember?
Adam: Okay.
Chelsea: Yay.
Heather: Hey, listen--
Chris: Hi, yeah, uh, do you mind going to Judge Rice's office and picking up the warrant in person?
Heather: He approved it?
Chris: Not yet, and I don't know what's taking him so long, but this way, if he has any questions, the daughter of one of the victims will be there to answer them.
Heather: (Sighs) Okay. I'll head over.
Chris: Thank you.
Ronan: Hey. Are you done for the night?
Heather: I wish.
Chris: Good. I am expecting the warrant any minute.
Ronan: Mm-hmm.
Chris: Mm, and you can keep your opinions to yourself.
Ronan: I didn't say a thing.
Chris: No, but your disapproval is coming through loud and clear. I just hope it won't interfere with your ability to do your job.
Ronan: I always do my job.
Chris: No matter how distasteful it is to you personally? (Scoffs) You know, someone is going to have to explain to me how I became the bad guy in this scenario. Paul and I were run down and left for dead on our wedding day yes, it was years ago. And, yes, we survived and have gone on to have productive lives in spite of Phyllis. If she had her way, we would be dead.
Ronan: And you think she's the same person now that she was then. Is that it?
Chris: Oh, my God. You know what? I don't know. I'm not a psychiatrist. It's not my job to get inside her head. It is my job to enforce the law.
Ronan: Mm-hmm. And sometimes it's just a little more satisfying than others, right?
Chris: The choice Phyllis made had devastating consequences for Paul and me. Are you gonna try and tell me there shouldn't be any for her? None at all?
Summer: Mom's already at Crimson Lights. We should head over.
Nick: You know, if you want to go out of town for a little while...
Summer: I just got back in town.
Nick: I know, but it might be kind of rough with your mom in the news.
Summer: By "Rough," you mean, like, a total circus, but I'm used to it.
Nick: I know, but maybe-- maybe you could go to New York for a couple weeks with your brother. That'd be fun.
Summer: I'm not leaving when Mom needs me the most. Thank God you guys got back together before this-- whatever it is happened. I don't even want to think how crazy she'd be trying to deal with this on her own.
Phyllis: Okay, Summer's on her way. Good. Um, that's what you and Heather were talking about-- the case against me, right?
Daniel: They're waiting for the judge to make a decision one way or another on an arrest warrant.
Phyllis: Apparently, that could happen at any time. (Sighs) She's so incredible. She is so trusting. You were the same way. One time, you wanted me to do something for you, and I was so frustrated. I was so... busy and overwhelmed and I-I remember I said to you-- I said, "I-I can't, Daniel. I can't. I am not that powerful." And you just laughed at me, because you thought I was joking. Mommy does everything. Mommy can do everything. Mommy has all the answers. You had so much faith in me. That was a long time ago. I'm sorry I let you down.
Gloria: Aw, poor you.
Sharon: Excuse me?
Gloria: Well, it's gotta be hard on you-- Adam and Chelsea eloping.
Sharon: Oh.
Gloria: Poor me. I was hoping to cater the wedding. (Chuckles)
Sharon: It's really not an issue for me.
Gloria: Well, good for you, Sharon.
Sharon: Yeah, I'm just disappointed that, um, I missed them, and I didn't see them before they left, because I had a little gift for them, you know? Just a little something, but...
Gloria: Oh.
Sharon: I'm just sitting here racking my brain, trying to remember the name of the place they're staying so I could at least mail it to them.
Gloria: Mm. I can help you with that.
Sharon: Can you?
Gloria: Mm-hmm. I just happen to have the phone number of the bed-and-breakfast they're staying in in, uh, Kansas someplace.
Victor: Avery, I understand perfectly that you would want to help defend your sister. But I hope that doesn't mean that you will pay less attention to your other responsibilities.
Avery: Look, you know my track record. I have often handled multiple high-profile cases at once. I'm an excellent multitasker, and nothing will fall through the cracks.
Victor: All right. See to it that it doesn't, all right?
(Cell phone alert chimes)
Victor: Is that Phyllis?
Avery: Yes. Is there anything else that you need from me?
Victor: No, thank you, Avery. Thank you for coming by.
Ronan: See, you say that you're enforcing the law. You did and ran around the legal system to get those charges filed.
Chris: No, I didn't.
Ronan: The only reason the statute of limitations doesn't apply is because you were a federal agent at the time. If Phyllis was behind the wheel of that car, that had nothing to do with you being a federal agent. You exploited a loophole.
Chris: Doesn't bother me.
Ronan: Doesn't bother you because you've lost perspective.
Chris: (Scoffs) Oh, and you can see clearly from your perspective as Phyllis' former lover?
Ronan: You're not willing to acknowledge any redeeming qualities in this woman whatsoever. She's had no emotional growth...
Chris: (Scoffs) Oh, my God.
Ronan: Over the last 20 years?
Chris: It is immaterial.
Ronan: It seems to me the only thing material is you settling the score with Phyllis.
Chris: And what's wrong with that?
Ronan: Chris, I thought I had a score to settle with Nina, okay? I went around blaming her a lot for a lot of things instead of just stopping and listening to her.
Chris: So what are you suggesting? That I listen to Phyllis? Maybe I'll hear some way she justified plowing into me?
Ronan: Maybe you'll hear that she didn't do it at all.
Chris: Oh, yeah, I'm sure I will, but guess what? That won't be the truth.
Heather: Ta-da you got your warrant.
Chris: Finally. I'll want you to come over to her penthouse with us.
Ronan: She's not there. Summer's been out of town. They were going to get together.
Chris: Were?
Heather: Look, she's at Crimson Lights, okay? Or was when I left. Don't you think it would be a little bit better if you waited for a bit more of a private moment?
Chris: Yeah, no. I've waited long enough.
Heather: (Sighs)
Daniel: It has been a long time since... I've expected super heroics out of you. I did think, though, that I could count on you not to be... homicidal. That's gonna take me second to wrap my mind around.
Phyllis: This is gonna be blasted from every media outlet. I mean, 24/7 so that should help you.
Daniel: (Scoffs) Great. At least Lucy's too young to understand.
Phyllis: (Sighs) I just got her back. I'm gonna be separated from her.
Daniel: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Are you giving up here? Is that it? It's over?
Phyllis: No.
Daniel: Good. Because that would be unacceptable. Summer needs you. Lucy needs you. I need you. So you're gonna fight. You do whatever it is you have to do... within reason. (Chuckles)
Phyllis: You're a funny guy.
Daniel: Funny guy.
Summer: (Sighs)
Phyllis: I want to hear all about camp.
Summer: First tell me what you've been up too. Dad says you might get arrested.
Nick: I didn't want her to be blindsided.
Phyllis: Um--
Summer: But he still hasn't told me what you did.
Daniel: You know, I'm gonna get Lucy home. If you want to call me or you want to come over later, I'll be up late.
Phyllis: Yeah, um--
Summer: Is it that bad?
Phyllis: Uh, can you get Summer out of her? Can you get Summer out of here, please? You're not--you're not doing-- you're not doing this here. You're not doing this now. You're not doing this.
Chris: It doesn't work that way, Phyllis.
Ronan: Phyllis Newman, you are... you are under arrest for the attempted murder of a federal agent.
Avery: Phyllis, I'm here.
Phyllis: Oh, my God. In front of my family.
Summer: Mom?
Phyllis: Get her out of here. Get her out of here. Can we please do this outside? Can we do this outside?
Ronan: Yes, yes, of course.
Chris: Ronan, the cuffs.
Ronan: That's not gonna be necessary.
Chris: No, I want this done by the book.
Ronan: I didn't read that book.
Phyllis: This is your dream come true, isn't it? You love this, don't you?
Ronan: Come on. Come on. Come on. No.
Phyllis: You love this.
Ronan: You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney and to have one present while you're being questioned.
Chelsea: You are telling me they just happened to have a Norman Rockwell print in the entryway?
Adam: It's fate. What can I say?
Chelsea: (Chuckles) What--
Chelsea: "Something old."
Adam: Yeah. That was my mom's.
Chelsea: Hmm. "Something new."
Adam: Now--no uh, this is, uh, for going with tradition, which we are. I don't need to see this until later.
Chelsea: It's a wedding dress?
Adam: Its a few dresses. I gave you some options.
Chelsea: Adam.
Adam: Keep going.
Chelsea: Oh, my gosh. "Something borrowed." Wait a second. Are these--?
Adam: Your mother donated to the cause. I figured this was a little bit like having her here without actually having to have her here, you know?
Chelsea: (Gasps) Brilliant. Ahh. "Something blue." (Laughs) Oh. Ahh.
Adam: Yeah, and now that is a little bit more for me than it is for you, but, you know.
Chelsea: I-I can't believe you did all of this.
Adam: You wanted tradition, didn't you?
Chelsea: Yeah but you must have set this up way before I told you that.
Adam: Well, I guess I just must know you really well then, huh?
Chelsea: You have no idea how much I love you.
Adam: (Sighs)
(Front door closes)
Victor: I hope this means you have an answer for me.
Sharon: Not yet. But I have decided that I-- I really do want to talk to Noah about it...
Victor: Okay.
Sharon: And, um, I think I should go and see him in New York, because on the phone, I feel it would be too easy for him to hide his feelings.
