Episode # 9910 ~ Nikki Accepts Jack's Marriage Proposal
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Jack: Thank you. You can leave it right there. Hey, Nikki, it's me. I, uh, I'm at the club picking up dinner. I was hoping you could join me at my place. Uh, no pressure. I won't even ask for an answer to my proposal, though a "Yes" would be nice. Really, I'd just like to see your face.
Victor: (Sighs)
Sharon: How do you do it? You pick something I would have never thought of, and yet, it's perfect.
[Nikki remembering]
Nikki: Thank you, Victor. The dress is beautiful. How do you do that? After all these years, make my heart flutter.
Victor: To a wonderful evening.
Paul: So the author of the article is enrolled? I see. Um, do you have any contact information? Nothing. Okay. Um, thanks for your help. Or lack thereof. Gerry? Paul Williams. How are you doing? Yeah, it has. Hey, listen, um, how's the, um, Evanston P.D. treating you? (Chuckles) Yeah, you're right. I do want some information. Um, it's about a suicide a couple of years ago.
Chris: What did you just call me?
(Bell jingling)
Daisy: Hey, home-wrecker. You know where my husband and daughter are?
Danny: Your mother had left a message that you had already married Daisy.
Daniel: Yeah. Yeah, and as much as I love parts of my new little family, others, not so much. So how am I supposed to do this, D? Tell me, please, because, I mean, I am crawling up the wall already.
Danny: How about you introduce me to your little friend here first? Hey, Princess. Wow, what a stunner.
Daniel: (Chuckles) Yeah. Yes, she is. Dad, this is Lucy. Lucy, this is one of the most amazing people you are ever gonna meet in your entire life... my dad, your grandpa. (Laughs)
Danny: Hey there. She talking much?
Daniel: Eh...
Danny: Man, she's got great eyes.
Daniel: Yeah. Yes, she does.
Danny: You fell for her, didn't you?
Daniel: (Chuckles)
Danny: You were so sure it would never happen.
Daniel: I was an idiot, and she needs me.
Danny: What happened to you fighting for custody?
Daniel: I had a shot at raising her, Dad. I did, I really, really did, and then this whole nightmare happened, where I took my eyes off of her for two seconds, I looked away, and she was just gone. You know, obviously, we found her, finally, but... by that time, it was too late. I'd already called the cops. Anyway, Mom's certain that Daisy had this all set up.
Danny: I know what she's done to you and Lauren and poor Jana Fisher, but let me ask you-- is Daisy a danger? To Lucy, I mean.
Daniel: (Chuckles) If I thought she was, I would grab Lucy and run so fast. Are you kidding me? Forget about the courts. I'd make tracks, you know? No. No, Lucy's safe-- I mean, physically. No, but Daisy-- she's unpredictable. She's more than a little delusional. I mean, she's needy and self-centered. I guess I just thought that marrying her-- a-at least, by being married to her-- I'd be close to Lucy, which from what I've been told, is pretty much a flashback to what you went through with Mom.
Danny: Yeah, parts of it do sound familiar.
Daniel: Look, I know that Mom was wild, okay? I-I know that she was never the best of friends with honesty and stuff like that and that she could push too hard, but Daisy was in jail for a reason, and now I've got this woman in my apartment, in my bed, and Mom thinks that I'm crazy. She thinks I should grab Lucy and I should run, that I need to get an annulment, whatever, but I think that-- I don't know, I think the marriage is just the best thing for the kid, so I don't know if I'm making the right decision, if I made the wrong decision. I don't know what to do here. What do I do?
Danny: Decide what matters. It's the only way you'll know what direction to go in.
Daniel: What mattered most to you?
Danny: Being your dad, and I'm not talking about biology. Waking up every morning and knowing you were around-- it made it a good day. Phyllis was Phyllis, but... you were my son, and I wouldn't have traded it for anything.
Chris: Seriously? Calling me a bitch under your breath? I... decades later, and you are... still as immature as ever.
Phyllis: You're right. My bad. I should have said it to your face.
Chris: (Scoffs) (Sighs)
Ricky: Christine. Nice to see you.
(Glasses clink)
Victor: When you came in, you seemed a little upset.
Sharon: So did you.
Victor: Well, I had some things on my mind, but as you said, you know, leave it outside that damn door.
Sharon: Oh, I thought I shut that. Could bonnie have left it open...
Victor: No, no.
Sharon: Or maybe someone else have entered?
Victor: Well, I told the staff to take the evening off. Huh.
Sharon: Well, then it must have been me. I guess that just shows you how preoccupied I was when I got here.
Victor: Uh-huh. It does seem as if we are not alone.
Jack: Food's in the kitchen. Are you all right?
Nikki: Yeah, I'm fine. I got your invitation. Thanks.
Jack: Is this about my earlier declaration of undying love? If it put that look on your face, I think I've lost my touch.
Nikki: I'm fine. Can we just sit for a minute and then move into food later?
Jack: Would you eat or just pick at your food and brood?
Nikki: I'm okay, really.
Jack: I can see that. You want to try telling me how you're really doing?
Nikki: Okay. You know what you said earlier this evening?
Jack: What part? The, uh, "Will you marry me" part?
Nikki: After that. You mentioned Victor, and I went to see him.
Jack: Right after I told you he could never make you happy again, you went over there to find out for yourself?
Nikki: (Sighs)
Jack: Did you guys argue?
Nikki: Ohh. We didn't even speak. He was much too busy dressing Sharon up as the lady of the manor and reveling in her beauty.
Jack: Oh, Nikki.
Nikki: I know. I know!
Jack: (Laughing) That's fantastic.
Ricky: I'm really glad you're here. I've been trying to figure out a way to get in contact with you, but I wasn't sure that you'd want to hear me out.
Chris: Well, sure, I'd be happy to hear you out. About what?
Ricky: I-it's about my, uh, my mother, actually. I don't really know her, but I have heard a lot and I've read a lot, and I know that she's done some things that... don't exactly make a son proud. A lot of those things were directed at you, and I know that seeing me right now can't be the easiest thing in the world to do, so I guess I just want to say... I'm sorry. I'm sorry for the things that she did to you.
Chris: Yeah, but you know you're not responsible for what your mom did.
Ricky: I know, I know, but, uh, I feel like when people see me, they think of her, and then... well, things get complicated.
Chris: No, no, you're your own person, Ricky.
Ricky: Sure, and I've made my fair share of mistakes, but you're right. They are my own, and I'm learning from them-- like who to trust and who not to.
Chris: Sounds like you're thinking about someone in particular.
Ricky: I just saw that thing between you and Phyllis just now. She's my biggest mistake, and it seems that the two of you have had some run-ins. We should compare notes sometime.
Chris: Well, I have a few minutes. Why not now?
Daniel: You know, having me around didn't exactly make things easy for you.
Danny: I was an adult. I made my own decisions.
Daniel: Oh, you mean, like being with Mom when you wanted to be with Christine, because of me?
Danny: Hey, what did I just say? That was my choice, mine, because nothing was more important than being a part your life.
Daniel: Even if it meant losing your wife?
Danny: Christine and I had our chance, more than once. It didn't work out for a bunch of reasons. None of them were you.
Daniel: Well, it didn't work out for you and Mom, either, no matter how much you loved me, no matter how much you tried. And I don't know. The term "Doomed to fail" comes to mind.
Danny: Every day I had with you was a bonus, and I wouldn't have traded it for anything.
Daniel: I didn't expect to fall in love with Lucy, but I did. But marriage to Daisy, I... (Chuckles) "Doomed to fail" is just the beginning.
Daisy: Hey, husband-kisser, do you know where Daniel is or not?
Eden: Poor Daisy can't hold on to her man. Well, without spiking his drink or cracking him on the head. I mean, every marriage has hurdles, but yours, well, it has snake pits and quicksand. Good luck with that.
Jack: (Laughing)
Nikki: Oh, that's great. That's nice. Just laugh it up over me going over and seeing Victor and Sharon in their absurd romance, like there is anything funny about it.
Jack: Oh, come on, there's something a little funny about it. Victor grooming Sharon for his next fair lady...
Nikki: Ugh.
Jack: You going over there not two minutes after I told you he cannot possibly make you happy again.
Nikki: And now I feel guilty and foolish. Thank you for inviting me over.
Jack: As far as Sharon's concerned, I would be horrified if I wasn't already bored with all the foolish choices she's made for months.
Nikki: You should see her. You should see her trying to play the lady of the manor. I swear, the next thing you know, she's gonna be using my hairstylist. Not!
Jack: Ooh! Is nothing sacred?
Nikki: I'm telling you.
Jack: A large part of your heart was with Victor the last time we were married. I think part of it still is.
Nikki: I know. I know, it is, and I-I-- if I could cut it out, I would.
Jack: I think I know how that feels. I got the same problem, except for with me, it's not love for "The Mustache," its loathing. In fact, um, I have a confession to make. When I asked you to marry me, 99% of my brain knew I just wanted to spend the rest of my life with you, but maybe 1%, subliminally, was thinking that it was another chance to stick it to Victor.
Nikki: Hey, that's not surprising. It's not very flattering, either. I mean, maybe even that 1% is too much to make a marriage work.
Jack: And yet, an even larger percentage of your heart is still hung up on Victor.
Nikki: (Groans) Whatever the percentage is, I just want to rip it out and throw it in the trash.
Jack: Look at us right now. We have this precious time together. Who are we talking about? I guarantee you “The Mustache” is not wasting his time on us.
Nikki: No.
Sharon: What happened to leaving all the "Haters" and the trouble outside the door? At least let me thank you for all of this.
Victor: It's nothing.
Sharon: Life's simple pleasures.
Victor: I saw the dress. I thought it would look great on you. Simple as that.
Sharon: Well, it's not that simple. We weren't together, and yet, you were thinking about me anyway.
Victor: That surprise you?
Sharon: On the one hand, no. You're thoughtful that way. You like to make the people who are close to you feel special, but you do have a lot on your mind.
Victor: What were you thinking about when you walked in here, rather upset?
Sharon: Just old news that I refuse to dwell on for another second.
Victor: But I'm glad that you felt... cool about coming here.
Sharon: Honestly, it was the first thing I thought of, and it was the only place that made sense.
Victor: Although you know it doesn't make sense to a lot of other people. So that begs the question... are we wise in pursuing this?
Danny: Your mom is your mom--a handful.
Daniel: (Chuckles) That's an understatement.
Danny: My biggest mistake was putting you in the middle.
Daniel: I survived.
Danny: It could have been better.
Daniel: That's the thing, Dad. I don't know how to do better with Daisy. I told her that I would never love her ever, and she just kept pushing and pushing.
Danny: And now she's your wife.
Daniel: (Scoffs)
Danny: Goes to show you how brilliant she is at working things her way. Maybe she's not as unrealistic as you think she is. You gotta own your part of this, Daniel. You made the decision to marry her and I respect that, but be confident. You're doing a tough thing for the right reasons. Keep your focus on Lucy.
Daniel: Yeah, but, Dad, wanting to do something and surviving it-- those are two completely different things, and Mom, she is so certain that this is doomed to--to crash and burn that she-- she just wants me to jump now and ask questions later.
Danny: Hey. I believe you can do anything. Maybe I'm biased. It's a dad thing.
Daisy: This place is so musty-- used books and female jealousy. Stay away from my husband.
Eden: Oh, I would never dream of infringing on your deep cosmic bond. I mean, you two seemed so happy and in love when he was trying to drink himself senseless and came running to me.
Daisy: Wake up, Eden. Daniel's with me, and there's nothing that's gonna change that.
Ricky: Once Phyllis fixates on something, good luck trying to get her claws out of it. Too bad she doesn't have that same tight grip on morals, ethics, and basic manners.
Chris: You speak from experience?
Ricky: Oh, we've had our moments.
Chris: What... I'm intrigued.
Ricky: And I'm more interested in your take on Phyllis.
Chris: Well, what you just saw back there is pretty much it for now, but, uh, it seems like your rumbles are a bit more recent?
Ricky: Actually, I need to take off. I'm so sorry. Completely forgot about an interview I have in literally 15 minutes. I'm sorry. Uh, it was so nice talking to you, Christine.
Chris: Maybe we can do this again sometime.
Ricky: Yeah. (Taps counter) Maybe.
Paul: So isn't the coffeehouse more your type of place?
Phyllis: It got a little claustrophobic there for me tonight.
Paul: Look, I, um, I don't want to interrupt your work.
Phyllis: But...
Paul: But I wanted to ask you a few questions about Ricky.
Phyllis: Well, I'm sure you're glad he's not working at the magazine anymore, aren't you?
Paul: Um, what happened with that? Ricky didn't explain.
Phyllis: I bet he didn't. I fired him.
Paul: Would you mind telling me why you fired him?
Phyllis: Would you mind telling me why you're coming to me about Ricky at all? I'm sorry. I-I didn't know that was gonna be so long.
Paul: Oh, it's all right. I suppose things are pretty hectic at the magazine without Ricky there, huh?
Phyllis: It's actually a lot easier at the magazine without Ricky. Remember when you came in, so mad at me for writing that story which Ricky helped me write? I guess you guys didn't patch things up, did you?
Paul: (Sighs) Ricky and I have never been close. He was raised by, uh, Isabella's parents.
Phyllis: Yeah. (Sighs) I wish I could get Lucy away from her wacko mother. Ugh. Do you want to know what I really think of your son? It doesn't get any prettier after that Patty story.
Paul: I wouldn't ask if I didn't want to know. I'm worried about my son.
Phyllis: Ricky's gears are always turning. I mean, he's always one step-- well, three steps ahead. He's always... (Exhales sharply) Going, going, figuring thi-- you know, and they're not-- they're not straight, focused steps. They're skewed and off, and he's sneaky. I mean, we believe that he helped Daisy make it look like Daniel was an unfit parent, and subsequently, Daniel married Daisy. I'm sorry. I-I guess I don't have to explain any further how I feel about your son, that I wish he never came into town.
Paul: Well, I'm sorry. I apologize for... whatever pain my son has caused.
Danny: Hey, I'm sorry. My publicist scheduled this interview.
Daniel: Oh, it's all right. I mean, we didn't give you much notice that we were coming, and I should probably get this one to bed.
Danny: You were a good kid, Daniel.
Daniel: You thinking of the same guy here?
Danny: And you're a good man. I'm proud of you. And I'll bet you Lucy knows exactly how lucky she is to have you.
Daniel: Thanks, Dad. All right... (Clears throat) See you later.
Danny: Bye.
Ricky: Mr. Romalotti. Ricky Williams. Thanks for meeting with me.
Danny: Call me Danny. Whatever you want to know, ask away.
Sharon: Victor, it sounds like you're giving me an out.
Victor: Sharon, it's a very complicated situation, so if you wanted to walk away, I'd understand.
Sharon: Well, what have we really done, you know? But we've--we've share some meals together, some companionship. And we have kissed a few times, but for outsiders to get that upset, I-- a part of me understands, and a part of me just wants to tell them to get over it.
Victor: Especially Nikki, I imagine.
Sharon: Well, you know I can never do anything right where Nikki's concerned and I'm not interested in trying, but I know how much she means to you, and I do respect that.
Victor: I haven't asked you about Adam.
Sharon: Let's just leave it that way.
Victor: You know, there are a million men who would give you less trouble than I would.
Sharon: And I'm sure there are just as many women who would like to be on your arm. Does that mean you're lining them up behind me?
Victor: I'm giving you an out.
Sharon: (Laughs)
Nikki: You make Victor sound like a disease.
Jack: Thankfully, he's not incurable.
Nikki: Well, history would suggest otherwise.
Jack: Yeah, I've carried it around for a long time, but I would happily ditch it for a lifetime with you.
Nikki: Oh, now, Jack, your hatred for Victor gives you such joy.
Jack: (Laughs)
Nikki: You could spend entire afternoons just making up names for him.
Jack: Yeah, that is true.
Nikki: (Chuckles)
Jack: I could spend that same afternoon with you, talking and laughing and just looking at that beautiful face. I could spend a lifetime doing that, and if it were a lifetime, I'd think, Victor who?
Nikki: You are so sweet. And here I thought you only proposed to irritate Victor.
Jack: No, I said I allowed for the possibility. No, I know now I asked you to marry me because I love you. I'm in love with you. You're an amazing woman, and I know I could make you happy. And I could just say, "Let’s forget about Victor," but you're the one that has to follow through with that. Can you do that? Can you forget about Victor and marry me?
Daisy: Daniel. You're home.
Daniel: Yeah, well, we live here.
Daisy: Yeah, but you left without saying good-bye. You wouldn't tell me where you were going. It's like you couldn't get away fast enough.
Daniel: A surprise for Lucy.
Daisy: Hi.
Daniel: She met her grandfather tonight.
Daisy: You took her to see your dad?
Daniel: Yep. And now he's her biggest fan.
Daisy: Why didn't you tell me you were going there? Well, why didn't you bring me with you? We could have gone as a family. I mean, he's my father-in-law.
Daniel: Yeah. Um, I don't know. He didn't really have a lot of time, you know? He had this whole interview set up.
Daisy: I was scared, Daniel. You took Lucy away from me. If I lost you both... you can't do that again. Swear to me you won't walk away ever again.
Eden: Here you go.
Paul: Hey. So, uh, how are you doing?
Eden: Oh, I'm fine, a-and I hope I didn't freak you out earlier. It was just--I don't know. The Ricky thing was kind of fresh, so... but I'm fine.
Paul: I appreciate that, but, um... just remember what I said. Keep your distance from Ricky.
Eden: I know, and I will.
Paul: Well, isn't it great just, uh, warning people to stay away from my son. You know, this isn't the way I want to look at him, like he's a danger or a-a-a risk. You have no idea how badly I want to find proof that I'm wrong, that the whole thing is a misunderstanding, and that I owe Ricky an apology.
Chris: Just hold on. Ricky was here earlier, and we spoke long enough for him to set off every alarm I have. You were right to tell Eden to stay away, but now he's fixated on someone else-- Phyllis.
Ricky: So your sound-- it's still evolving?
Danny: It has to. I mean, uh, grow or stop being relevant...
Ricky: Mm-hmm.
Danny: But give, you know, the fans some of the old favorites, mix in the new. You know, a reason to stay excited.
Ricky: But it's all based on, uh, personal experience, right? So your past has to come into play in some way. Now I've read your background bio, but what I'm really interested in is your take on... family.
Danny: Well, my son has-- has been a touchstone for years. In fact, he came out on tour with me a couple years back.
Ricky: Huh.
Danny: It's incredible to, uh, to see him now as a grown man.
Ricky: And his mother?
(Papers rustling)
Ricky: Um... Phyllis. I understand there was some drama in the past. I bet that shaped you.
Danny: She brought Daniel into my life. Best thing that ever happened.
Ricky: It was a rocky relationship, complete with a custody battle, according to court documents. I'm sure there's some kind of a story behind that.
Danny: You know, I've got to, uh, I've gotta meet some fans right now. Do you need, uh, directions on how to get out of here?
Ricky: Yeah, I've just got a couple more questions for you, Mr. Romalotti.
Danny: Yeah. Hey, Jonesy? (Clears throat) Yeah, do you mind, uh, showing this gentleman out, please?
Ricky: I'm good. Thank you, and thank you for your time.
Danny: Bye.
Ricky: See you.
(Cell phone rings)
Phyllis: Hey, Danny.
Danny: Hey. Well, I met Lucy. She's beautiful.
Phyllis: Oh, oh, you saw Daniel. Uh, wow, that--that's great.
Danny: Yeah, and then right after, I had this interview, and the reporter was way too interested in you. A guy named Ricky Williams. You ever heard of him?
Phyllis: That's Paul and Isabella's son. He worked for me. I fired him.
Danny: Looks like he holds a grudge.
Daisy: Your mom wants me gone from your life. It's why she came over here before, try and convince you to leave me. She'd probably get Lucy and you fake passports. You would leave, and I wouldn't be able to stop you.
Daniel: It's not gonna happen. I'm here for good. Lucy knows it. (Chuckles) So should you.
Daisy: You see it now, don't you? We're a family. (Sniffles) Mm.
Daniel: Yes, we are.
Danny: So what else do you know about this guy, other than he's Isabella's son and has it out for you?
Phyllis: Apparently, he makes his father nervous. I mean, that says it all, right?
Danny: That makes me feel a whole lot better.
Phyllis: Wow, okay. Well, I have this feeling that I should be looking over my shoulder at all times. And the trouble is, how--how long can I keep that up?
Paul: Part of me knows that I have to stay on top of this, but there's another part of me that doesn't want to--
Chris: Yeah, that's scared about what you might find about your own son.
Paul: Maybe that's why I was such a crappy father.
Chris: You were not.
Paul: Well, I wasn't around, was I? I stayed away. I let his grandparents raise him, maybe because I was afraid that, uh... I knew something like this might happen. But you know, on the other hand, if I hadn't have been such a coward, maybe things would have turned out differently.
Chris: Well, my instincts were buzzing. I already told you that. But that doesn't mean that it was all bad news. Don't you have calls out to other students who knew Ricky's girlfriend?
Paul: Yeah, I'm waiting to hear from, um, a kid by the name of Craig Hunt. He was mentioned in a lot of the articles. I just have a feeling it's going to be more bad news.
(Cell phone rings)
(Ring)
Ricky: This is Ricky.
Bryce: Hey, man, it's Bryce. Thought you'd want to know someone's asking questions about you.
Ricky: Interesting. Thought the question thing was my deal. Did you get a name?
Bryce: No, but it's a Genoa City number, 262-555-0178. You recognize it?
Ricky: (Sighs) Belongs to a guy named Paul. Hey, thanks for the heads-up. I'll take it from here.
Victor: You seem a little tired.
Sharon: Mm... it's been a long day.
Victor: You know something? Let's talk about all this tomorrow.
Sharon: You know, you don't push and you don't pressure. You just make it clear to me that you like having me around.
Victor: I have a feeling the champagne was not a good idea...
Sharon: (Laughs)
Victor: After a long, tiring day, was it, hmm?
Sharon: No, it was brilliant! It would be great to just sit here and sip it and tell the world to go to hell.
Victor: But it's not realistic.
Sharon: Mm. Well, until we do make a decision about what we're doing, I hope that we can spend time together.
Victor: Listen. (Sighs) We're both friends. Mmm. Let's talk about all this another day. There's no rush. And then... we can decide another time what we're gonna do, okay? You were tired, weren't you? My goodness. Now let's see here.
Nikki: First you laugh at me, and now you're reading my mind.
Jack: Never at you, and it wasn't your mind I was reading.
Nikki: (Chuckles)
Jack: It's your heart.
Nikki: Yeah, Victor's name there and you haven't thrown me out yet. That is chivalry.
Jack: Yeah, Victor carved his name on your heart a long, long time ago. You know what I think? I think it's just scar tissue now. Memories, Nikk. I also think there's a lot of room in there for me, even if you're not sure.
Nikki: You make me sure, Jack. Now you proposed because of me, not Victor, and I can give you my answer because of you and not Victor. I love you very much. Yes, I will marry you. (Laughs)
Next on "The Young and the Restless" --
Jack: I'm about to beat everyone-- Victor, Genevieve, the S.E.C., and guess what first prize is?
Chris: You are making a terrible mistake.
Cane: Well, appreciate the warning, but we're done.
Avery: This could be a disaster for Genevieve.
Victor: And a windfall for me.
