Adam: So you're here to get me through this.

Victor: I would like to... help you with your legal problems, if I can.

Adam: After you wanted me gone from Newman and you swore that I would never step foot on any of your properties ever again, even if Sharon forgave me down the line?

Victor: If you don't want me here, then just say so, all right?

Adam: I just can't help but try and get my mind around this idea that you want to help me. It makes me feel like I'm being set up. You're gonna use this against me somewhere down the road.

Victor: You couldn't be more wrong.

Kay: So what does, uh, Victor think about all this?

Nikki: Obviously, not very happy, but we haven't discussed it.

Kay: Why not?

Nikki: We haven't really discussed anything in the last couple of days.

Kay: (Sighs) Oh, God. (Chuckles) Nikki, please. Please tell me the two of you are not having problems al-- (Quietly) Already.

Nikki: You think its cold outside? That's nothing compared to how it feels at the ranch.

Victoria: Hi, Sharon. I thought you'd be at the police station.

Sharon: Why would I be at the police station?

Victoria: Uh, well, the authorities took Adam in for questioning.

Sharon: How do you know that?

Victoria: I was at the Athletic Club when they escorted him out.

Sharon: Oh. Well, I, uh, guess it was bound to happen sooner or later.

Victoria: Um, aren't you two back together?

Sharon: Well, we were, until I found out that he orchestrated Patty Williams' escape from the psychiatric hospital.

Victoria: Mm-hmm, one of the many unforgivable things he's done.

Sharon: I'm well aware.

Victoria: You are better off without him, Sharon.

Sharon: Well, luckily, I have something else to focus on.

Victoria: Oh? What is it?

Sharon: Um, like you, I'm starting a new job.

Victoria: Where?

Sharon: Newman Enterprises.

Victoria: What are you talking about?

Sharon: Your father hired me to work there.

Ashley: (Gasps, squeals)

Tucker: There's my beautiful wife!

Ashley: Ohh!

Tucker: (Chuckles) Oh!

Ashley: Flattery is gonna get you all sorts of good things.

Tucker: Oh, I'm countin' on it.

Ashley: Mm...

Tucker: Mm. Mm.

Ashley: I missed you, McCall.

Tucker: Ohh. Oh, God, I missed you, Beauty.

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: Let me look at you. Ooh, talkin' on the phone just does not cut it.

Ashley: Especially when I've barely had time to do that. So tell me, how's Devon? Is he still in Dallas?

Tucker: Uh, no. Doctor gave him the okay to fly back with us.

Ashley: Really?

Tucker: Now we just have to wait and see if the procedure worked.

Ashley: Wow. How long before you know?

Tucker: A number of weeks.

Ashley: Really? And he can't hear anything for all that time, huh?

Tucker: Not until they turn the devices on.

Ashley: It must be so horrible for him to be back in that place. But it's so good that you were there for the surgery, right?

Tucker: Yeah.

Ashley: I'm so happy that you talked him into letting you go along.

Tucker: I am, too.

Ashley: Aw. He was happy, wasn't he, that you were there?

Tucker: Yeah, h-he seemed to be.

Ashley: Well, at least he knows how much you care.

Tucker: Hey, you don't suppose there's a chance you might be able to... (Sighs) Get out of here for a little while?

Ashley: Ohh.

Tucker: Huh? Huh?

Ashley: (Inhales sharply) I wish I could. I told Jill and Cane that, you know, we're gonna have a meeting this afternoon.

Tucker: Huh.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: What's so important that you'd choose them over me, huh?

Ashley: Oh, never. Mm.

Tucker: Huh?

Ashley: Mnh-mnh. Well?

Tucker: Well?

Ashley: We're going into battle... with Beauty of Nature.

Genevieve: You've broken my lucky streak.

Jill: And what lucky streak is that?

Genevieve: Not running into you. It's been quite a while, and I've enjoyed every minute of it.

Jill: It's not as long as you think. I saw you at Cane's wedding in France.

Genevieve: Too much champagne will do that to a person.

Jill: Don't worry, I didn't broadcast it. Cane and Lily have no idea.

Genevieve: Why would you do me any favors?

Jill: Maybe because you didn't make a scene. If one of my sons had excluded me from such a special day, I probably would have done the same thing.

Genevieve: Well, I appreciate that you didn't blab it all over town.

Jill: Have you seen Cane since the wedding?

Genevieve: No, I haven't, and now I really must run.

Genevieve: Hello, Ethan

Cane: Hello, Mother.

Genevieve: How are you?

Cane: I'm fine.

Genevieve: And Lily and the kids?

Cane: They're fine.

Genevieve: Good. Good, I'm--I'm glad.

Jill: You know what? I can leave you two alone.

Cane: No, you don't have to do that. We have work we need to do. It's okay.

Genevieve: Work?

Cane: Yeah, I suppose you don't know, uh, I am Jill’s right hand now at Jabot.

Genevieve: (Sighs)

Victoria: So let me guess-- you just batted your eyelashes at my dad and you begged him to give you a job.

Sharon: Um, no, he came to me.

Victoria: Well, once again, my dad finds a way to hurt my mom. Well, I can only imagine what he said to her-- "It's only until Sharon gets back on her feet. It'll be good for Faith."

Sharon: What Victor and Nikki discussed is between them.

Victoria: Anything to cause trouble, right, Sharon?

Sharon: I needed a job, and Victor needed someone with experience. I used to be the Beauty of Nature spokesperson, remember? When your father used to own it?

Victoria: Right. Right. Well, I suppose if anyone is associated with the Newman name, it would be you. You've got it in triplicate.

Sharon: (Sighs) Did you get in your digs? You happy? Because I really don't care how you feel. All I care about is that Victor thinks I have something to offer the company.

Victoria: You just dump Adam and go running back to my dad. I wonder how my brother feel about all this.

Sharon: Nicholas is fine with me working at Newman, and if you're not, oh, well!

Victoria: (Sighs) (Sighs) (Whispering) Oh, Dad, what are you doing? What are you doing?

Victoria: (Sighs) (Normal voice) Mom, it’s Victoria. Would you call me? (Exhales quickly)

Nikki: Even now, with what's happened to Jack and Adam, Victor refuses to acknowledge his role in bringing Patty back to town.

Kay: But, Darling, you know and I know Victor has never admitted his sins.

Nikki: Yes, it's been an ongoing theme since the day we met.

Kay: (Chuckles) Nikki, Nikki, Nikki, Nikki. That is just who he is, Darling. You have worked yourself past that before.

Nikki: Well, I guess I've changed, because I will not accept this. I will not accept him not being honest with me. I mean, me, the woman he calls "The love of his life." Especially after all of the sacrifices we made for each other during Diane’s murder investigation?

Kay: That is true. The two of you have been to hell and back in the name of "Love."

Nikki: And now that we're back together, instead of it being wonderful, I... we just argue.

Kay: Be honest with me-- is it really that bad?

Nikki: Katherine, Victor and I are as close as any two human beings can be. And now, I don't even know who he is.

Victor: I remember when you lost your sight-- most of your sight a few years ago. I got you out of prison, brought you back home.

Adam: And I pretty much wrecked your life... then. Oh, hell, I wouldn't blame you if you were the one to call the cops and turn me in right now anyway. I guess Jack and Paul just beat you to it, Dad.

Victor: What do you mean, Jack and Paul?

Adam: Jack and Paul, they're the reason that I'm here right now. I went and spoke to them each privately, and I apologized to them about Patty, and I told them the whole story. And I guess they went to the cops, and that's why I'm being brought in for questioning now.

Victor: Why would you do that? It's not like you.

Adam: Now that I'm back from Kansas, I'm gonna-- I'm gonna man up. I'm gonna own my mistakes and my behavior.

Victor: It was for that bad behavior that I turned my back on you, punishing you for your past actions.

Adam: "Disgracing my mother," as you put it.

Victor: But I see you now have made a commitment to stick to your plan to make things better, to change. Well, I'll stick to my plans, okay?

Adam: What "Commitment" are you talking about?

Victor: To give you a chance to, um, prove yourself.

Adam: That's what this is all about?

Victor: (Sighs) I was ready to excise you from my life, okay? Turn my back on you and make sure that you are removed from the Newman board of directors. But I think you and I can work together, all right? Once I get you out of this mess. I wish you hadn't talked to Jack and Paul.

Adam: Yeah, I know.

Victor: The police will be looking for evidence to corroborate what you've told them.

Adam: Yeah, so much for the old adage "The truth will set you free." I guess that doesn't apply here, right?

Victor: Maybe I can help.

Jill: Your absence left a gap, and we needed someone to fill it. Cane was the perfect choice.

Genevieve: How ironic. I've been replaced by my own son.

Cane: Well, there wouldn't have been a job available if you hadn't betrayed the Abbotts and bought a competing company with them.

Genevieve: Okay, its all clear now why you were so chatty earlier, stalling for time until Ethan showed up and could make his big announcement.

Jill: Please, that is absurd.

Genevieve: Is it?

Cane: There's no plot against you, okay? Now if you'll excuse me, we have work to do.

Genevieve: You're not the only one who has work to do. And I do love competition, so don't be surprised if Jabot's numbers start to fall and Beauty of Nature's soar.

Jill: Oh? And how are you planning to do that?

Genevieve: Just a little something that I'm working on that's all I'm gonna say.

Jill: Well, we already know.

Genevieve: How could you?

Jill: 'Cause Cane and I are working on the same thing. Mitsukoshi? But this time, Jabot's gonna come out on top.

Ashley: Thank you.

Woman: Yeah.

Tucker: So... Beauty of Nature versus Jabot, huh?

Ashley: Sort of like King Kong versus Godzilla.

Tucker: What are you fightin' for?

Ashley: How about an exclusive contract with the largest department store chain in Japan?

Tucker: Mitsukoshi.

Ashley: Bingo.

Tucker: Well, now there's a big fat dose of déjà vu.

Ashley: Yeah. Do you remember when Victor and Victoria's involvement in that bribery scheme came to light?

Tucker: Yeah. Victor's lucky he didn't do jail time.

Ashley: Yeah, well, part of the settlement with the department of justice was severing the partnership between Beauty of Nature and Mitsukoshi.

Tucker: Go on.

Ashley: Victor's exclusive contract was dissolved recently, after a lot of red tape.

Tucker: Which opens up the market for other players.

Ashley: Including Beauty of Nature, because they're no longer owned by Newman.

Tucker: But this time, you're determined Jabot gets the prize.

Ashley: (Chuckles) I've already got Cane and Jill working on it, Tucker!

Tucker: Okay.

Ashley: Yeah.

Tucker: Do you think Victor will try to interfere?

Ashley: Well, he's not gonna help Genevieve and Victoria, I don't think, and he's not gonna hurt Beauty of Nature.

Tucker: Oh, no. He'll never give up on getting it back.

Ashley: Right. But you know what? I can't control what Victor does. The only thing I can control is the Jabot campaign. Do you know how huge it would be for Jabot to finally secure a place in the Japanese market?

Tucker: It'd be good for your brother, too.

Ashley: He so desperately needs something to be happy about, and I'm gonna give it to him, Tucker.

Kay: People deal with tragedies in many different ways. And I'm telling you, I do not believe for one moment that Victor doesn't feel some sort of guilt.

Nikki: Well, if so, he's keeping it well hidden.

Kay: I know where you're coming from. Believe me, I do. But the two of you, my God, you have worked so hard to be together. I mean, shouldn't you give this a little time? Just try and work things out this time.

Nikki: (Sighs) Oh, Katherine, things are just so, so bad. I-I-I wouldn't know where to begin.

Kay: Well, maybe begin with... Victor's birthday tomorrow.

Nikki: It's too late to do that.

Kay: Well, I would certainly try to make an effort before I write Victor off as a lost cause, because believe me, my dear, you will live to regret it.

Adam: I haven't been arrested. I've just been brought in for questioning.

(Door opens)

Spencer: You're free to go.

Adam: Really?

Spencer: Your attorney's in the middle of a high-profile trial, and since you refuse to talk with our representation, we'll have to do this at a later date.

Adam: Works for me. So I guess they're not even holding me.

Victor: You're far from being off the hook. And since Vince Abrams apparently is busy with another trial, I offer you the services of Michael Baldwin.

Adam: Thank you, but no, thank you.

Victor: You’re being foolish. He's an excellent attorney.

Adam: I'm just afraid of accepting a favor from you that would cost me more than I'm willing to pay.

Victor: Just know that the offer stands, all right? In case you change your mind.

(Door closes)

Ashley: You know, all this talk, I just can't help but think back on the last time we got caught up in the allure of Mitsukoshi.

Tucker: Oh, yeah.

Ashley: There you go.

Tucker: I owned Jabot, and you were my beautiful C.E.O.

Ashley: Do you remember how obsessed we were with getting the dirt on Newman?

Tucker: (Clears throat) Oh, yeah. We just couldn't figure out how they maintained their monopoly in the Far East.

Ashley: I can't believe that we actually followed Victoria to Japan.

Tucker: Oh, I'm glad we did, 'cause that's when things changed for us.

Ashley: I know.

Tucker: One day, we were spies, and the next, we were lovers.

Ashley: Well, that's because corporate intrigue can be extremely seductive. Haven't you noticed that?

Tucker: Oh, yeah.

Ashley: Mm, I missed you.

Tucker: Ohh.

Ashley: Mm.

Tucker: Mm.

Ashley: Mm. Oh.

Tucker: Hmm?

Ashley: I'm sorry.

Tucker: No.

Ashley: I'm sorry. Duty calls.

Tucker: (Sighs)

Ashley: (Whines) Sorry.

Tucker: Uh-huh. (Sighs)

Cane: You on hold?

Jill: Yeah. Oh, Ashley, hi. Listen, Cane and I are ready to discuss Japan. Great. Okay, we'll see you in a little bit. Bye.

Cane: You know, I'm really excited about our strategy.

Jill: Yeah, I just hope Ashley shares our enthusiasm.

Cane: (Sighs)

Jill: Honey, that was the first time you saw your mother in ages. Do you want to talk about it?

Cane: There's nothing to talk about 'cause nothing's changed. Any hope of closeness I had was, uh, wishful thinking on my behalf.

Jill: I’m sorry.

Victoria: Uh, sorry, excuse the mess. I really-- you know, I just kind of like to spread out when I'm working.

Genevieve: Well, that's okay.

Victoria: Uh, the reason I called you, I need to fill you in on an urgent matter.

Genevieve: Mitsukoshi.

Victoria: Yeah.

Genevieve: Don't look so surprised. I know about it. Jabot is going after that contract, but so are we, and Beauty of Nature will come out on top.

Sharon: Hello.

Victor: Well, hello. So... what happened when I left your place? Please sit down.

Sharon: Nicholas and I had a nice little conversation.

Victor: Uh-huh. He's still not eager about the idea of working together with you?

Sharon: No, but I'm happy that he's okay with me working at Newman.

Victor: I'm glad you signed on.

Sharon: I do know someone who is not happy that I signed on.

Victor: Oh, yeah? Who?

Sharon: Victoria. I ran into her at the coffeehouse, and when I told her that I'd be working here, she was not happy that you hired me.

Victor: You better get used to the fact that a lot of people will be very unhappy with my decision, but I don't give a damn, and you shouldn't, either. Your work will speak for itself.

Sharon: Well... mm, Victoria did give me some other bit of interesting news.

Victor: Oh, yeah? What's that?

Sharon: Apparently, Adam has been taken to the police station for questioning.

Victor: I'm aware of that. So... let's talk about our vision for the new cosmetic line.

Nikki: And I will get back to you tomorrow about the menu. (Gasps) I-- oh, and I'm gonna bring my own cake in, if that's okay. Okay, thank you so much.

Nikki: Well, well. I'm amazed that you would come out in public after that article in "Restless Style."

Adam: You shouldn't believe everything you read, Nikki.

Nikki: Mm, recognizes my voice-- very impressive.

Adam: And your perfume.

Nikki: What I would like to know is why the authorities haven't carted you off to jail yet.

Adam: It's funny you should mention that. I just came from the police station. You're never gonna guess who showed up there. Victor. He was offering his support.

Nikki: You... are... delusional.

Adam: (Chuckles) I was just as shocked as you are. Do you have any idea why he-- why he might want to help?

Nikki: Golly, gee, I don't, but I'm sure he had a really good reason.

Sofia: (Laughs) Well, it sounds like your trip to Dallas was relatively drama-free.

Tucker: Uh, well, there were a few awkward moments. But for the most part, Neil and Harmony and I got along just fine.

Sofia: All three of Devon’s parents together? What, there wasn't any friction?

Tucker: Devon was our priority, so we were all on our best behavior.

Sofia: Good.

Tucker: So... are you gonna tell me, or do I have to drag it out of you?

Sofia: (Laughs) What?

Tucker: Well, I'm happy you asked to meet with me, but, hey, I just got back. I haven't even unpacked.

Sofia: Well, I apologize, but what I wanted to talk to you about, I didn't think I should wait.

Ashley: I'm excited to hear what you've come up with.

Cane: I think you're gonna be pleased.

Jill: (Chuckles)

Ashley: I can't stress enough how important it is to me that we secure this contract.

Jill: Oh, Ashley, I want this as much as you do. You know that Jabot has always held a special place in my heart.

Ashley: It's personal for me, too, Jill.

Jill: Plus, with all the crap she pulled, I want everybody to see that Genevieve is no match for us.

Ashley: I hear you.

Jill: (Clears throat)

Ashley: Sorry.

Cane: You don't have to be sorry. My loyalty lies with Jabot.

Jill: Okay, then, why don't Cane and I fill you in on the game plan?

Cane: All we need is your okay, and we can kick it into gear.

Victoria: It's very important that we get this new exclusive deal. If we want to keep our stronghold in Japan, we need to show everybody that Beauty of Nature, outside of the Newman umbrella, is still a force to be reckoned with.

Genevieve: Yes, and I realize that you can't fly to Japan and deal with this personally.

Victoria: Um... no. No, not after what happened the last time, but I can be just as effective working from here.

Genevieve: I hope so.

Victoria: Don't worry, Genevieve. I know what I'm doing.

Sharon: It sounds like you want me to start right away.

Victor: Is that a problem?

Sharon: No. No, I'm grateful to have something meaningful to put my time into.

Victor: Then I'll see you tomorrow.

Sharon: Okay, I'll be here. Um, but I thought you might not be working tomorrow.

Victor: Why wouldn't I?

Sharon: Because it's your birthday.

Victor: Ohh, I'll skip this one.

Sharon: Too late. I already got you something.

Victor: What's this?

Sharon: Open it and see.

Victor: Tickets to the opera.

Sharon: They're doing "Aida."

Victor: I'll be damned. Thank you so much.

(Door opens)

Nikki: Oh, am I... interrupting?

Victor: No, not at all.

Sharon: Nikki, I was just leaving.

Victor: Thank you.

Sharon: Enjoy.

Nikki: "Thank you"? "Enjoy"?

Victor: Uh, Sharon bought me some opera tickets for my birthday.

Nikki: Really?

Victor: Yeah.

Nikki: Well, that quickie marriage was annulled. I don't know that it's appropriate that she's buying you gifts.

Victor: It may also have been a thank-you gift.

Nikki: What does she have to thank you for?

Victor: She's gonna start working at Newman.

Ashley: I'm open to anything... well, as long as we're clear that we won't be using any kind of questionable tactics.

Cane: So we don't have a repeat of that fiasco, uh, like last year with Victor and Victoria?

Jill: Mm-hmm. Well, we don't have to resort to bribery. Jabot is riding such a high with the success of our new product line, all we have to do is sell ourselves to the right people.

Cane: And I think I know how we can do that here. Check this out.

Ashley: There's a Mitsukoshi shareholder's convention coming up?

Cane: Right, so what we should do is make contact with as many as we can before the event and let them know that Jabot is the company that would best serve them in the future.

Victoria: The future of Mitsukoshi where cosmetics are concerned is still with Beauty of Nature.

Genevieve: Yeah, the trick is getting them to believe that.

Victoria: Well, I know the owner, so we have an edge.

Genevieve: You think so?

Victoria: Well, especially after I remind him of all the millions of dollars we've generated in revenue over the years.

Genevieve: Okay, so your argument would be, why walk away from a sure thing to take a chance on something new?

Victoria: Well, the guy is not stupid. He knows the risks of starting up with a new company.

Genevieve: But still, after the bribery scandal, he may consider his relationship with Beauty of Nature tainted.

Victoria: My plan is to convince him that back then, I was just following my father's orders. And now that you and I are in charge, we'll be conducting business honorably.

Genevieve: Those are great talking points. Thank you. But... will that be enough, you know? Because Jabot and every other cosmetics company will all be vying for that same contract.

Victoria: Yes... (Sighs) There is absolutely no question, the competition will be very fierce.

Genevieve: I wonder what Victor would do in this situation.

Victoria: My father was gifting a Japanese government official for years, and that's how Newman secured its exclusive contract.

Genevieve: Ah. But if he had it to do over again?

Victoria: Well, I'm sure that he would just be more careful this time, make sure that he doesn't get caught.

Genevieve: You really think he'd be that reckless?

Victoria: Genevieve, there's one thing that you need to understand about my father-- he will not hesitate to get his hands dirty in order to get what he wants. And that is the one thing that we need to avoid.

Genevieve: Yes, suppose so.

Victoria: (Chuckles) Would you just please relax?

Genevieve: But what if I were to go see Victor, you know? Maybe I could just squeeze a little valuable information out of him.

Nikki: Victor, you cannot be serious.

Victor: Sharon is on her own now. She is finally free, free from Adam.

Nikki: Yeah, what does that have to do with you?

Victor: She's looking for work. I'm simply aiding her in that effort.

Nikki: Mm-hmm, by hiring her at Newman?

Victor: Why are you reacting like this?

Nikki: Because it doesn't make any sense, Victor. She's your ex-wife.

Victor: (Sighs)

Nikki: She's your ex-daughter-in-law. I mean, talk about opening yourself up for bad press!

Victor: I don't give a damn about the press.

Nikki: Well, maybe you should.

Victor: It's not that she isn't qualified.

Nikki: Oh, no, I'm sure she is qualified. So are a thousand people. Why her?

Victor: Are you suggesting that I have romantic feelings for her?

Nikki: I really have no idea. I don't know where your head is these days. I just know that I don't like it!

Victor: What the hell has gotten into you?

Nikki: Me?! I'm not the one acting like a crazy person, Victor! I mean, your--your attitude about Patty, and now you're hiring Sharon, and I heard that you're helping Adam!

Tucker: And I was afraid you were gonna tell me that you decided not to return to work.

Sofia: Oh, no, of course not. I am ready to get back in there. I just haven't set the date yet.

Tucker: Is Neil on board?

Sofia: I wouldn't do it if he wasn’t. Of course we still have to work out a schedule and a plan for little baby Moses, but...

Tucker: Yeah, "Little Mo." I gotta tell you, I'm just happy you're back at McCall where you belong.

Sofia: Aw.

Tucker: And your timing couldn't be better.

Sofia: What do you mean? How so?

Tucker: Well, you'll see.

Tucker: I got big plans for you, my friend.

Sofia: (Sighs)

Cane: So... what'd you think?

Jill: Do we have your approval?

Ashley: Absolutely.

Cane: (Pounds fist) Yes!

Jill: (Laughs) Great, great, great, great.

Ashley: Here's how we're gonna proceed-- Cane, I want you to stay and run the marketing department. You're gonna help me make contacts from here. I want you, Jill. I want you to go to Japan. You're gonna try to get your foot in the door there.

Jill: When do I leave?

Ashley: (Slams laptop closed) Tonight.

Jill: (Laughs)

Victoria: Go to my father? Uh, I guess, uh, you didn't hear what I said.

Genevieve: I would just be asking for a few pointers, you know, a little insight into how to win over the Mitsukoshi people.

Victoria: Well, even if he said he'd help, we couldn't trust him.

Genevieve: Victoria, I am not naive. I was married to Colin, after all.

Victoria: Right. (Thumps hand on chair) What is your point?

Genevieve: Well, let's just say that I have my ways of getting what I want out of people.

Victoria: Victor Newman isn't "People."

Genevieve: What's the harm in trying?

Victoria: (Sighs) Listen, I told you, my father doesn't play fair, and you and I agreed we're not gonna do business that way.

Genevieve: So we did. Mm-hmm.

Victoria: Okay, so just sit tight, and I will handle things, okay?

(Cell phone rings)

Genevieve: Okay. Go ahead.

Victoria: Yeah, I have to take that.

Genevieve: All right, I'll let myself out.

Victoria: Okay.

(Ring)

Victoria: This is Victoria.
