Episode # 9828 ~ Ronan Confronts the Murder Suspects

Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma

Deacon: (Sighs) Well, I told you I wasn't lying. Maybe now you can stop wasting the taxpayers' money.

Ronan: (Sighs) Well, I'm not gonna do that, because there's more going on with this murder than you or Nikki or anybody else is saying. And I'm gonna find out what it is.

Deacon: Hmm.

Ronan: (Knocks on door)

Deacon: (Sighs)

Paul: Spencer.

Spencer: Paul.

Paul: What's with all the evidence? Nikki confessed to Diane's murder. It was self-defense. You saw the film yourself.

Spencer: Deacon or anybody could have put that footage together to make it look like self-defense. Why have all these supposedly innocent people lied about the night Diane Jenkins was murdered?

Paul: So I suppose you have a theory.

Spencer: People only lie when they have something to hide.

Paul: And you're gonna get to the bottom of this.

Spencer: As soon as they all get here, we'll get started. Nobody's leaving until I get some answers.

Adam: (Grunts)

(Objects clatter)

Man: Adam Newman?

Adam: Yes.

Man: You need to come with me.

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: I'm in the clear because you came here tonight, you've been saving me for years. Always, with every reason to walk away from me.

Sharon: I'm not gonna let you go to prison.

Adam: The fact that you can look at me right now...and you can look me in the eyes and you can say that to me-- that is just one more reason for me to love you. I swear to you... I swear, I will protect you in this.

(Footsteps approach)

Sharon: Victor, I-I thought you-- uh, when were you released?

Victor: Where have you been all night?

(Doorbell rings)

Sharon: I’ll get the door.

Sharon: Hello.

Man: Hi.

Sharon: Uh, please come in.

Man: Thank you very much. Victor Newman?

Victor: Yes?

Man: You need to come with me, Sir.

Abby: Oh, yay! It's so good to see you.

Victoria: Yay! I missed you like crazy.

Abby: I missed you.

Nikki: Welcome home, Abby.

Abby: Thank you. You, too.

Nikki: Thank you.

Abby: I tried to call Dad. Yeah, see how--

Nikki: Well, I'm sure he'll get in touch with you. Right now, we're all just... trying to get reorganized and put the past behind us.

Woman: Tucker McCall?

Tucker: Uh-huh.

Woman: Ashley Abbott, Abby Newman...

Nikki: Excuse me, What is this?

Woman: Victoria Newman...

Victoria: What?

Woman: Nikki Newman. D.A. wants to see you.

Tucker: Are you gonna tell us what this is about?

Woman: Explain it to 'em. I'll meet you outside.

Phyllis: Yeah, we have to get something up online on Victor's release right away, please. Okay, I'll--I'll be there soon.

Woman: Phyllis Newman?

Sharon: (Sighs)

Nick: Hey.

Sharon: Morning. Hi, Baby.

Faith: Mommy.

Nick: Uh, I didn't expect to see you this morning. I thought with Dad coming home last night...

Sharon: Yeah, and have you spoken to him?

Nick: Michael told me. I'm kind of surprised he got out of jail so fast.

Sharon: Me, too, but that didn't last long.

Nick: What do you mean?

Sharon: The D.A. requested his presence at the police station this morning, brought an escort.

(Knock on door)

Man: Nicholas Newman?

Nick: Yeah? Thank you. Can you go to mommy?

Sharon: Come here, Baby. Come here.

Faith: Mommy.

Nick: It's from Walsh. It's the same thing as Dad.

Jack: (Groans)

(Slams receiver down)

Genevieve: Good morning?

Jack: (Sighs) Not so far.

Genevieve: What's got you so upset?

Jack: I can't figure out who put in the highest bid for Beauty of Nature. I've called Tucker. I've called Adam. No one's picking up. You know what? It might be in the business section.

Genevieve: It might be.

Man: Jack Abbott?

Jack: Yes.

Man: The district attorney has summoned you to the police station--

Jack: I'm in the middle of important business. Could you tell Spencer to make this some other time?

Man: That's not an option.

Ronan: His nose didn't grow an inch.

Paul: Hmm.

Spencer: Deacon wouldn't be the first person to fool a polygraph.

Ronan: No.

Paul: What do you think?

Ronan: I think that he's telling the truth. Even before the test, I asked him about these pillows. He didn't know what in the hell I was talking about.

Spencer: What about the rest of it? The syringe, the keys, the--the diary papers?

Ronan: I asked him questions about every one of those. He passed with flying colors. I don't think Deacon Sharpe is the man planting evidence against our suspects.

Spencer: Could have been Victor, trying to throw us off Nikki's trail.

Paul: No, no, the timing's all off. Victor didn't think Nikki killed Diane until she came back into town.

Spencer: Then who the hell was it?

Ronan: I don't know yet, but I do know that we're wasting our time with this bunch.

Spencer: If they don't have the answers we're looking for, then who does?

Paul: You're right, we're wasting our time.

Ronan: Who plants evidence after a murder?

Paul: I don't know, but whoever it is, they better hope the D.A. doesn't get his hands on them. He's been in a foul mood ever since he had to release Victor Newman.

Ronan: Oh, well, putting Victor Newman behind bars is a career-maker, and now he's got the Genoa City back here stonewalling him.

Paul: Speaking of stonewalling, you haven't heard from Genevieve's maid, have you?

Ronan: Myrna?

Paul: Me, neither. Let me see what I can find out from, uh-- Genevieve. Paul Williams. Uh, I'm fine, thank you. Listen, Detective Malloy and I were wondering if you have any idea why your housekeeper hasn't returned our calls.

Genevieve: She hasn't? I-I told her how important it was. You know what? This is probably my fault. I've sort of been running her ragged with errands for the wedding.

Paul: Well, it's a priority. We really need to speak with her.

Genevieve: Uh, well, she's at the house right now waiting for a delivery. I'll tell you what--I'll meet you over there, and you can talk no Myrna face-to-face.

Myrna: A little bit tacky. Hmm... (Humming Wagner's "Bridal Chorus from 'Lohengrin'") (Laughs)

Sharon: I need to see you right away. Yeah, I can be there in 15 minutes. I thank you. Okay. Summer, hurry, Sweetie! We need to get going. Let's get your scarf on. Baby, I don't want you to worry. Everything's gonna be fine.

Faith: Okay.

Sharon: I'm not gonna let anybody keep us apart, I promise.

Faith: Okay.

Sharon: Come here.

Victoria: I thought we were finished with all of this.

Abby: Spencer Walsh needs to get a life.

Jack: Oh, great. I didn't realize this was a party.

Ashley: Oh, yeah, with a very exclusive guest list.

Tucker: Also known as "The usual suspects," huh?

Jack: Well, as long as we're standing around, have you heard anything about Beauty of Nature?

Tucker: Oh, Jack, no.

Phyllis: (Sighs) Oh, wow, we've gotta stop meeting like this.

Nick: Yeah, gang's all here.

Phyllis: Yeah, um, did you drop Summer off?

Nick: Um, when I got served this morning, Sharon was there to pick up Faith, so she took Summer, too.

Phyllis: Sharon has my daughter?

Nikki: Sharon was at your place this morning?

Nick: Yeah. Thought she'd be he, celebrating Dad's release. How long is Walsh gonna keep us here? It's ridiculous.

Tucker: Well, if he doesn't show up soon, I'm taking my family home.

Jack: Yeah you and me both. I'm out here.

Abby: (Scoffs)

Ashley: Ugh.

Abby: Ugh!

Adam: Oh, Abby, look at you. Welcome back. I see that Santa didn't bring you a sparkly new personality.

Abby: Dad, hey!

Victor: I heard that you were back. How nice to see you.

Abby: (Laughs)

Jack: Gentlemen, this is a waste of my time. Let's get started.

Ashley: This is absolutely ridiculous. How long is this gonna go on?

Abby: Unbelievable.

Victor: Mr. Walsh, I think the case is closed. I would appreciate it if you would stop harassing my family.

Spencer: The case is closed when I say it is. We still haven't decided whether or not we're going to press charges against Nikki.

Victor: You can't be serious. That's ridiculous.

Spencer: A woman lost her life, and a young boy lost his mother. I think that's tragic.

Ronan: Every person in this room has lied to me, hidden or destroyed evidence, given false alibis for each other. Yes, you may not have killed Diane Jenkins, but you all did your damndest to keep me from finding out who did. That makes every one of you guilty.

Myrna: "I now pronounce you Mr. and Mrs. Jack Abbott. You may kiss the bride."

Genevieve: Myrna.

Myrna: Hmm?

Genevieve: Myrna--oh, hi.

Myrna: Hi.

Genevieve: What are you doing with my veil?

Myrna: Oh, I-I was just making sure that everything was perfect, and it is. It's just perfect and beautiful.

Sharon: Sweetheart, Mommy will be right back.

Sharon: Thanks for meeting me.

Avery: Well, you sounded upset on the phone.

Sharon: (Sighs) My marriage to Victor is about to end.

Avery: Wow, a week. What happened? I know it wasn't a love match.

Sharon: (Sighs) I... I married Victor to protect my children and he married me-- well, I thought he married me to protect Nikki, but there was more to it than that. He used me.

Avery: How?

Sharon: To set up Adam to be arrested by the S.E.C.

Avery: Did you set him up?

Sharon: I-- I went along with the plan until I realized what was really happening, and then I went to Adam, and I told him what Victor was up to.

Avery: (Sighs) And? Sharon, if you want me to even consider helping you, you're gonna have to tell me everything. What happened when you went to see Adam?

Victor: All right, let's get it over with.

Ronan: The reason you're all here is because of unanswered questions that the D.A. and I here-- we don't like those, and this case is full of them. For instance...who sent Ashley these pictures of her, taken on a security camera that was stolen from the park that night? Who stole Ashley's phone...and then kept calling, playing a recording of him threatening Diane? Who shoved this key down Diane’s throat?

Nick: You messed with the evidence and most of us.

Deacon: Tell 'em, Malloy.

Ronan: Sharpe took a lie detector test. He is not responsible for the planted evidence.

Victoria: He admitted that he was here that night, trying to help my mom.

Spencer He ended up helping us.

Ronan: Filming most of what happened that night in the park.

Phyllis: Oh, that's creepy, even for you, Deacon.

Deacon: Diane asked me to do it.

Abby: (Scoffs) It's sick, if you ask me.

Ronan: And you guys have only seen part of the footage. Yes, I know about your screening in the warehouse that night. Screening everything he shot from that night-- its right here. Why don't we all take a look at it together?

Ronan: These pillows were found in Diane's room.

Jack: Yeah, and you thought they were Diane's, only Kyle, her son, who lived with her, had never seen those before.

Victoria: What do they have to do with us?

Ronan: So happy you asked. You know, what's interesting about these pillows is each one tells a story. Take this one, for instance. Jack, "Greed is good."

Jack: Yes, I was upset with D-- more than upset, for trying to take Kyle away from me, but I would never take Kyle's mother away from him.

Ronan: And after Jack didn't kill Diane, Abby came walking by... a girl... just wanting to have, hmm? Question for you, Abby-- is this how you have fun?

Abby: I already told you that I met Diane at the park. She asked me to come. We were fighting about the key you just showed us.

Ronan: The one I found in her throat.

Abby: I didn't put it there. Diane told me that that key would unlock the hiding place. Of the tape I made confessing to hitting Tucker with my car. After all that, I don't even think she had the tape.

Ronan: Whoever did hid it right there.

Victor: It had to have been Sharpe.

Deacon: Wait a second, wait a second. The last time that I saw that tape was when I gave it to Diane, and as far as those pillows go, you know, I-I've never even seen those before.

Ashley: Couldn't Diane have gotten the pillows after she sent Kyle to Switzerland?

Victoria: She did send us text asking us to meet her in the park, so why not leave something in her room that it-- would implicate us, too?

Ronan: There is not one bit of evidence connecting Diane to these pillows. We believe that they were placed in her room after she was killed by somebody that knows all of you very well.

Victor: (Sighs)

Genevieve: Ahh, I just can't wait to be Mrs. Jack Abbott. (Laughs)

Myrna: Well, neither can I. There's still so much we need to do.

Genevieve: Uh, no, actually, everything's been handled, but there is something that I need you to do.

Myrna: Oh, okay. What, uh, what? (Laughs)

Genevieve: Talk to Paul Williams.

Myrna: (Sighs) You know, I'm--I'm gonna do that after the wedding, because I-I want everything to go smooth for you tomorrow.

Genevieve: No, Myrna, no. I don't want to go into this marriage with that threat still hanging over my head.

Myrna: Yeah, but nothing's happened since you left.

Genevieve: I know, but this would just make me feel better, okay? And besides, Paul is already on his way over here now.

Myrna: He is?

Genevieve: He's gonna be here any minute, and you're gonna talk to him.

Myrna: (Sighs)

Genevieve: No arguments this time, Myrna.

Myrna: (Sighs)

Avery: I can't help you if you're not honest with me.

Sharon: Well, I knew Victor was going to be released from prison. I just didn't think that he would be home for another day or so.

Avery: So you went to see Adam.

Sharon: I told him that Victor had set him up. I was going to just say it and then go, but he was upset, and--and I couldn't just leave.

Avery: When did you get home?

Sharon: (Sighs) This morning.

Avery: (Sighs)

Sharon: And Victor was there, waiting. He'd been released last night.

Avery: What happened?

Sharon: He asked me where I'd been.

Avery: What did you tell him?

Sharon: Nothing, because a cop showed up at the door, and Victor had to go with him down to the D.A.'s office.

Avery: You should play the lotto. Today is your lucky day.

Sharon: No, Victor knew where I was, and I'm afraid he's gonna tell Nick, and then Nick's gonna use this against me to get the judge to revoke the joint custody agreement we have.

Avery: Sharon, I don't know what you want me to do. I represent Nick.

Sharon: Talk to him. Convince him that is not in Faith's best interest to be away from her mother.

Avery: Sharon--

Sharon: Listen, Avery, I need you. I need you as much now as I did when I was facing those murder charges. (Sighs) I can't lose my little girl, not again.

Ronan: It's a low blow, right, Ashley? Someone was trying to get to you... like Diane did-- tormenting your daughter, throwing her fling with Tucker in your face.

Ashley: I already admitted that I saw Diane the night she died. You've got the photos to prove it.

Ronan: The ones you tried to destroy?

Ashley: (Clicks tongue)

Ronan: You weren't the only one trying to hide things. Your spoiled rotten dog was in the park that night, too, having a little chat. Now right... here-- now is that when you got that bad case of carpal tunnel? Is it the poison sumac? 'Cause I get the two confused, too. Well, there's no question on this one-- "Hunk, a hunk of burning love." Well, that can only describe one person. Now I'm definitely seeing it burn there, but I'm not feeling the heat, and I know that because of the message you left on Ashley's phone. How unlucky can a guy get, huh? You leave an incriminating voice mail on a friend's phone, and that friend loses her phone. But it was cool, right? 'Cause you had another woman in the wings, just waiting to cover for you. (Sighs) Phyllis. "Zero to bitch in 5 seconds." (Scoffs) Right... there. Really? Now who's the bitch? I mean, Diane caused you to break a nail, and you're the bitch? But it was okay, 'cause you had that manicurist come in early the next morning and fix you up, good as new. Everything worked out, huh? "Why, yes, I am evil." (Chuckles) You think my job is so easy. I'm curious about one thing, though. Why was the footage of Dr. Evil missing from the warehouse film? Nothing, right? You. Okay, 'cause we have it right here. Let's all watch it. See, that film just makes so much more sense when you see the whole thing, like that, right there. Now that's when you left the imprint on Diane's arm with your Harvard ring, but your ring looks perfect and I thought it was chipped before Diane was killed. That's not the only thing you lied about, right? I mean, you told me that you saw Victor kill Diane in the park. I mean, he actually had a lot to say, but none of it was actually based on anything you saw. Your sister, on the other hand-- you saw plenty and you said nothing. You did nothing. What if you would have tried to step in? What if you would have tried to stop daddy for once? What would have happened? Better yet, what would have not happened? And then, of course, we have the king. So much of this could have been prevented-- a false confession, a death. Instead, you tried to derail my investigation the whole way. I know that you think you were doing the right thing by protecting Nikki, but you know what they say about good intentions, right? This next one, I have to admit, it had me stumped. I didn't know who my "Dorothy" was. And all the pieces fell into place. Now Victor confessed to protect you, never realizing that you had tried to protect him.

Nikki: She was trying to set him up, to make it look like Victor had killed her.

Ronan: And you wanted to make her stop.

Nikki: Well, I didn't want to hurt her, but she came after me with the syringe. I tried to fight her off.

Ronan: Yeah, I think Diane Jenkins got the short end of the stick on that one.

Nikki: She was strangling me.

Deacon: Diane came after Nikki. I saw all of it from, um, across the park, where I was filming. I tried like hell to get over there. I swear I did. I just-- I just couldn't get over in time. (Exhales shakily)

Deacon: (Sighs) She was already dead, and I, uh... I picked up a rock and I hit her in the head, I-I don't know, seven, eight times. I... (Sighs) I just wanted-- I just wanted it to seem like somebody bigger and stronger than Nikki killed her. It's not pretty, but that's-- that's the truth.

Genevieve: Thanks for coming. Maybe I can shed some light on all the strange things that have been happening around here. (Laughs)

Paul: It'll be worth it, right?

Genevieve: Yeah. Um, she's just upstairs. I'll get her for you.

Paul: Great she’s here finally, get to meet the elusive Myrna.

Genevieve: (Laughs)

Avery: Before I agree to talk to Nick, I have to ask you something.

Sharon: Why do I keep going back to Adam?

Avery: After everything he's done to you-- and knowing what being with him could cost you.

Sharon: I know it seems crazy.

Avery: Then explain to me why it isn't.

Sharon: (Sighs) Most people see Adam as a lost cause. I just see him as lost.

Avery: He was willing to let you go to prison for life.

Sharon: And Victor was willing to do the same thing to him. I had to break the cycle. Otherwise, Adam would have gone down the same destructive path he always does.

Avery: You can't keep saving Adam from himself.

Sharon: If I lose my little girl because of what I did, at least, one day, I'll be able to tell her I did the right thing.

Avery: Wow. You should have been a lawyer. I almost believe that justifies what you did.

Sharon: (Sighs)

Ronan: So you put Diane's body in the creek. Then what'd you do?

Deacon: I, um...I gathered up as much evidence as I could find. I grabbed the syringe, uh, the cell phone-- I thought it was Nikki's-- and the security camera in the tree.

Spencer: What'd you do with them?

Deacon: I hid 'em in the alley behind Gloworm.

Ronan: I searched that alley.

Deacon: No, I went back a couple of days later, and, uh, it was gone, everything. Somebody had taken it.

Ronan: Okay, so... (Chuckles) Someone stole the evidence that you had stolen.

Deacon: Yeah.

Ronan: Okay. Who would do that?

Nick: Someone who'd want to torment us with it.

Adam: Very original, Nicholas, blaming me.

Ashley: If the D.N.A. fits, and your D.N.A. was on the envelope that those pictures of me a were sent in.

Adam: So you think. I licked the envelope and just dropped it right off...

Ashley: Yep.

Adam: At your apartment.

Ashley: Yep.

Nick: I did, too.

Adam: My I.Q. is higher than all of yours combined. Why would I do something so incredibly stupid?

Victor: Because you're arrogant enough to think that you could get away with it.

Adam: Like father, like son. I had nothing to do with this missing evidence.

Ronan: And I don't suppose the rest of you knows anything about it, either, do you? Nope. I didn't think so. So then, either one of you is lying, or there's somebody else involved in the murder.

Spencer: I vote for the first. If that person steps forward right now, I'll drop the charges against all of you, let everybody go. If no one's willing to do that, you'll all get charged with evidence tampering, obstruction of justice, and lying to a police officer, and I will throw the whole lot of you in jail.

Sharon: Are you saying you won't help me?

Avery: I'm saying, as Nick's attorney, I don't know how I can.

Sharon: Then you think the same way he does, that I shouldn't be allowed to have custody of Faith if I'm seeing Adam.

Avery: No, I'm not saying that. It's a very complex situation.

Sharon: Yes, it is, and Nick has reduced it down to a single ultimatum. Don't you see how unfair that is, to me and Faith? I mean, even to Adam.

Woman: I kept her busy as long as I could. She really wants you. She misses you, even when you're just a few feet away.

Sharon: Oh, come here, Baby.

Woman: (Chuckles)

Sharon: I'll take her.

Woman: Okay.

Sharon: Ohh, there you go. Hi, Honey. Did you miss mommy? Did you miss me from over there? (Chuckles) Well, mommy missed you, too. Mommy always misses you when she's not with you. That's how much mommy loves you.

Avery: It's obvious the feelings are mutual.

Sharon: (Sighs) You know, I've made some mistakes, but so has Nick, and I've never used our daughter as a weapon against him. I've never tried to keep her from him.

Avery: Well, Nick would claim he's just trying to protect his daughter.

Sharon: Oh, please. Does she look like she needs protecting from me?

Avery: Okay, if Nick files for full custody, I'll try to convince him that Faith needs her mother as much as her father.

Sharon: Thank you.

Genevieve: She's gone. I-I don't know where she is. I've looked everywhere for her, and it looks almost like she's taken some of her things.

Paul: Can you think of any idea why she might have left like that?

Genevieve: (Sighs) No. No, idea.

Paul: Hmm. Do you mind if I check her room?

Genevieve: Uh, no, no, -of course not. Sure, go ahead. It's--it's the second door on the right. Oh, Paul, uh, Myrna kept track of everything about the household on a laptop of hers. If it's in her room, you're welcome to it. I mean, anything that can give you some kind of clue.

Paul: Okay, thanks.

Genevieve: (Whispering) Myrna, where are you?

Myrna: (Sighs) (Breathing heavily) (Whimpering) Oh, God. No, I couldn't let Pauly see me. I couldn't. It would just ruin everything. (Breathing heavily) Oh, God, what am I gonna do? (Sighs) I can't let Genevieve marry Jack. I just can't. I can't, I can't, I can't! (Breathing heavily) He's mine. Oh, God. Just, Patty, calm down. Please, just calm down. Just think, think, think, think, please. (Sighs) Oh, God. I have to stop her. I do. I just have to stop her. (Whimpers) Oh, Mr. Kitty, where are you when I need you? (Sighs)

Abby: (Scoffs)

Ashley: (Sighs)

Ashley: (Sighs)

Ronan: Well, get comfortable, Ladies. It's going to be a long night.

Abby: I'm sorry, how are we supposed to get comfortable wearing these?

Ronan: Well, we'll get you processed just as soon as we can.

Ashley: And when will that be?

Spencer: Hard to tell.

Victoria: Well, we already told you everything that we know.

Ronan: Maybe you'll think of something else while you're here waiting.

Phyllis: Um, excuse me, Detective Malloy, this is crazy.

Ronan: I'm just doing my job.

(Door closes)

Ashley: (Sighs)

Phyllis: They're looking.

Ronan: I believe them. I don't think they know any more.

Spencer: I think they do. They're gonna stay locked up till we find out what it is.

Jack: I don't know what Walsh hopes to gain by this.

Tucker: Well, he's hoping the rest of us can break whoever it is who's holding.

Adam: What's he think, we're gonna cage-fight each other?

Nick: Sounds good to me.

Adam: (Slaps table)

Victor: Many ways to find the truth.

Tucker: (Sighs)

Next on "The Young and the Restless"...

Sharon: Look, this needs to stay between you and me-- I' m gonna pay for Adam's bail.

Man: Hey, Buddy, what you barkin' at, huh?

Segundo: (Barking)

Victor: You care about nothing and no one.

Adam: I care about your wife.

Nick: You shut your mouth right now!
