Episode # 9721 ~ Daniel & Lily Make Love

Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma

(Knock on door)

Daniel: Hey.

Lily: Hi. Uh, can we talk about last night? Thanks.

Daniel: You know, I-I-I get it. You changed your mind. You don't have to explain.

Lily: No, I-- I do need to explain. I-I just... I want you to understand what happened.

Nick: Since when do you and Phyllis share a table for two?

Deacon: Um, what's it to you?

Nick: Phyllis is my friend.

Deacon: What, she can't have more than one friend?

Nick: I don't think you're her friend. (Pulls out chair) So why don't you tell me exactly what the hell's goin' on?

Gloria: Yes, Jeffrey, I did change the schedule. Because I want Deacon to work the lunch crowd. Because all those rich, old, lonely ladies love to come in here and check out the beefcake behind the bar. He charms them. They buy more drinks, and our profits skyrocket, okay? End of discussion.

Phyllis: Hey, Gloria. Hey.

Gloria: Gotta go, Lover Man. Phyllis.

Phyllis: (Chuckles)

Gloria: What can I get ya?

Phyllis: Um, actually, information. I am doing a very, very big story in "Restless Style." Uh... n-no, it's not about you.

Gloria: (Chuckles)

Phyllis: Next time. Next time. Um, I-I'm just gonna cut to the chase. I need to see Deacon Sharpe's time card for August 1st.

Gloria: What's so important about that? That's the same day Diane Jenkins was murdered.

Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Exactly.

Gloria: Oh, come on, Phyllis. You don't think Deacon had anything to do with that.

Phyllis: Oh, um, I think that your mixologist very well could have been the murderer.

Victoria: Um, okay, so you heard that I have a room to rent?

Sam: I did. Is, uh, is that not the case?

Victoria: Eh, no. (Chuckles) No.

Sam: Okay.

Victoria: Uh, hold on a second. If this is a practical joke and more people are gonna show up at my door, then I would kind of like to know who to blame, so...

Sam: Well, I don't know if it's a practical joke or not, but if it is, I, uh, I guess that'd be your father.

Noah: You lied about the memory card. There's proof on there that-- that could get Mom off the hook for murder, but you won't come forward with it?

Adam: I see you've been reading Pulp Fiction these days.

Noah: Where is it? What did you do with it?

Adam: I ate it with a side of fava beans and a nice Chianti.

Noah: (Scoffs) Oh, wow, you think this is some--

Adam: The only person responsible for Sharon being behind bars is Sharon.

Avery: I'm back. (Sighs) And you look different.

Sharon: Well, I'm feeling a lot better.

Avery: It shows. I mean, you're not exactly doing cartwheels, but you're not a ball of emotion, either. What changed?

(Doorbell rings)

Victor: What's the meaning of this?

Man: We're here to search your home, Mr. Newman.

Ronan: And before you tell us to go to hell, we do have a search warrant.

Victor: I suggest you place your efforts in a different direction, okay?

Ronan: I won't tell you how to run a billion-dollar company, and you don't tell me how to run a murder investigation.

Victor: Why the hell wouldn't I tell you how to run a murder investigation? You've done a lousy job of it so far.

Noah: You would blame Mom for her situation, even though she went to Hawaii to find Skye so she could clear your sorry-ass name.

Adam: I'll be eternally grateful to her for that.

Noah: Yeah, so grateful that you won't turn over evidence that could help her.

Adam: Help her? Just like you've helped her by driving miles and miles to go visit her and have her cry on your shoulder? Oh, wait, you've never gone to see her, have you?

Noah: We're talking about what you've done.

Adam: By all means. Let's talk about what I've done for Sharon. I traveled the world to prove she didn't murder Skye. When we all thought she had died, I mourned her death.

Noah: (Sighs)

Adam: I proved she didn't commit suicide. When she came back to town, I called her a lawyer right away, ran down to the police station. I was there for her in the courtroom when she was convicted. Were you? I've been there for Sharon every step along the way... until she hooked up with "Dr. Feelgood" and got herself caught. She made her choices. Now she lives with them.

Noah: (Sighs) So it's-- it's just like everyone thinks. You're jealous and acting out, and that's probably why you dumped her at the altar.

Adam: Sharon's my past. I've accepted that. I'm walking away. I wish her the best. Feel free to pass that on to her if you ever go visit her.

Noah: Look, Mom doesn't deserve to be in prison. But since she hurt your feelings, she has to pay, right? (Scoffs) Yeah. Some real man you are.

Avery: It's obvious how much Victor cares about you, coming all this way just to give you a pep talk.

Sharon: Yeah. I'm grateful to have him in my life.

Avery: Well, he's not the only one who'd go a few rounds for you. Dr. Gibson seems to be here on call 24/7.

Sharon: (Laughs) Well, hopefully, that will change after the last talk we had. You know, he can't spend all of his time in a prison dayroom trying to cheer me up. He needs to get out and see other people and do things, you know? Things that he can't do here.

Avery: Mm-hmm. Well, you could try being noble with Sam, but honestly, from what I've seen, he's not goin' anywhere.

Victoria: Um... (Sighs) Please come on in. Just come in.

Sam: It's, uh, Sam-- Sam Gibson.

Victoria: Right. Oh, Sam. Yeah, Sam. You're the guy from New Mexico who helped Sharon when she--

Sam: I am. That's me.

Victoria: Oh.

Sam: Your father actually offered me a job at the ranch filling in for the local vet while he's on leave. And since I'm currently in a motel, well, he...

Victoria: He suggested that you bunk in with me?

Sam: Well, I-- no, he just--he just said there was a room for rent. Look, I've-- I've inconvenienced you enough, Ma'am. It's a pleasure to meet you.

Victoria: Oh, Sam, hold on a second.

Victor: So the police department has nothing better to do than look for a pair of shoes, is that it?

Ronan: Well, not just any pair of shoes. Eduardo Valenti, size 11 1/2. They made a very distinct impression at the crime scene. See, I believe the tracks were made the night Ms. Jenkins was murdered.

Victor: You mean when she was murdered.

Ronan: Do you own a pair?

Victor: I have no clue. I don't keep an inventory of my closet, Detective.

Ronan: Of course not. Maybe, though, maybe this will help jog your memory. That's a receipt from a few months ago-- Fenmore's department store ring a bell?

Victor: Yeah, I remember I didn't like them.

Ronan: Didn't like them. So then you never wore them.

Victor: You know something? I have no clue. I do not recall.

Ronan: See, Mr. Newman, I think that you did wear them.

Victor: Really?

Lily: Cane and I had... a thing at the club where we would get a room and decorate it in a Parisian theme and then surprise each other. So when you and I were there, and we were about to... you know, I... it just reminded me of that, you know? And--and that's why I stopped.

Daniel: I get it. Look, I get it. You're always gonna love Cane.

Lily: No, I'm not--listen. I'm not--I'm not-- I'm not saying that. (Sighs) I mean, I-I can't say that I won't think about what we had or what we could have had, you know? Or that I won't get sad if "Casablanca" is on TV or if Charlie smiles just like Cane. But I-I-I can't go back there. I don't want to. And no matter how much Cane tries to push us together, I-I-I'm not gonna do it because I just... it just feels right to move on, and I think, you know, last night, I just... I overcompensated, you know? I-I was trying too hard to replace old memories with new ones, and that was wrong. It was wrong, because you're... an incredible friend, you know? And I don't ever want to hurt you ever. So I'm--I'm sorry. You must think that I'm, like, a big mess, and just the biggest user and--

Daniel: No. No. No, I don't. And I never will, either.

Gloria: You know, that sounds like a pretty slanderous statement, Phyllis-- not only against Deacon, but against his employer, as well.

Phyllis: What are you talking about?

Gloria: Why don't you just go ahead and accuse me of not doing proper background checks on my employees?

Phyllis: W-well... he is an ex-con on parole, Gloria.

Gloria: And I believe everybody deserves a second chance. Deacon was here that night all night behind this bar. And shame on you for trying to ruin a man's life by pegging him as a murderer. Leave Deacon alone, Phyllis.

Phyllis: (Quietly) No. (Normal voice) Not until I discredit him.

Deacon: Phyllis and I have reconnected, you know? I mean, sometimes when there's a tragedy like Diane's death, people take that time to reflect. They reach out to old friends. They want to spend time together.

Nick: You can cut the act. After the way you wrecked my mother's sobriety, I know you don't have a reflective bone in your body.

Deacon: You know, Nick, I-I know you're probably not gonna believe this, but I've done everything possible to try and take responsibility for what happened with your mother. Can you say the same about Diane? Can your father say the same about Diane? I don't think so. No. You both treated her miserably, and now you're never gonna have the chance to make it right, are ya, Pal? So I hope you or your dad can live with what you did.

Nick: (Scoffs) So you're implying, what? That one of us killed Diane? You are so far off base. You better not go spouting that nonsense to my dad, or he will bust you up, and not that I owe you any explanation-- I was with Phyllis the whole night that Diane was murdered. I'm surprised she didn't tell you that while you guys were "Reconnecting."

Man: Detective Malloy, we're almost finished here. Just one more room to go through.

Victor: You know, Detective, I think I'm gonna call your superior and tell him that you're disparaging an upstanding citizen of this community who pays more taxes than all of you together, instead of going after the real killer, all right?

Ronan: Before you dial, why don't you just take a look at this for me right there? Now that photo was taken the day of the murder just hours before it happened. Now, uh, correct me if I'm wrong.

Victor: Mm.

Ronan: But aren't those the shoes in question, Mr. Newman? See, I think they are, so why don't you tell me where you went after this photo was taken? And then you can tell me what really happened to those shoes.

Daniel: Come here. I have never, ever for one single second thought that you were using me. I mean, I feel so lucky and so blessed just to be around you. And I realize that when we were married, I-I-I... I kind of messed things up pretty badly. I-I get that. And you could have completely written me off, but... you didn't. I mean, look at us now. Here we are, you know? Closer than ever.

Lily: (Chuckles)

Daniel: (Chuckles) (Clears throat)

Lily: Except when I freak in a hotel room.

Daniel: (Sighs) You know, you freaked out with good reason. Cane did a number on you. You're not just gonna be able to flip a switch and change directions. And every now and then, you're gonna get off track, but... (Claps hands) Guess what? Guess who's gonna be there to get your caboose back on track?

Lily: You. (Laughs) All right. Well, you better wear one of those train engineer hats and overalls. It'll be so cute.

Daniel: (Chuckles)

Lily: (Laughs)

Daniel: Yeah, um, I-I could-- I could do that. I-I--you know, I-if that's gonna make you happy. Whatever makes you happy, because when you're happy, I'm happy. You got it?

Lily: Got it.

Daniel: Um, you know what? We should probably go to the mall, maybe get one of those little heart things you can--

Lily: Okay, you know what just shut up, okay? Come here.

Victoria: So I guess that you probably know by now that I am related to--to Adam.

Sam: He's your half brother, right?

Victoria: Yeah. You know, my whole family's convinced that he is the reason that Sharon's in prison right now. I know that it's taking its toll on her being away from her kids, and, um, my heart goes out to her.

Sam: Well, she's dealin' as best she can.

Victoria: Yeah. (Clears throat) Listen, I don't mean to pry, but Sharon might be locked up for a long time, and... are you gonna wait for her?

Sam: Well, she needs a friend right now, so I'm stickin' around. Mainly, I'm just focused on making sure she gets released. I've never been very good at the whole "Givin' up" thing, you know? I'm certainly not gonna give up on a friend when they need me, especially not one I know is innocent.

Victoria: Oh.

Sam: (Sighs) Well, thanks a lot for the lemonade. I'll, uh, get out of here. I apologize again for the misunderstanding.

Victoria: You know what? Actually, Sam, um, I-I might be able to help you. We have a furnished apartment above the garage where you could stay.

Sam: Oh, I-I-I don't want to put you out, certainly not when you weren't expecting to have a tenant.

Victoria: No, it's--it's--

Sam: That's--

Victoria: Well, honestly, it could be beneficial for both of us, because my sister, uh, wants me to move in with her. I don't really want to. I'd like to stay here. So having a tenant might be a good enough excuse to get her off my back.

Sam: Well, I'll tell you what, why don't you take some time, think about it. I'll, uh, give you my card here. That's my cell number right there on it.

Victoria: Oh.

Sam: When you make a decision, you just, uh, just give me a call.

Victoria: Yeah, I will. And, you know, I think it's admirable that you stand behind Sharon 100%. I used to have somebody like that in my life. It's a really wonderful feeling.

Sam: Yeah.

Sharon: It looks Adam's not gonna come through...

Avery: Mm-hmm.

Sharon: So any other ideas?

Avery: Well, I do have some things I'm working on, but I don't want to say anything until I have something concrete.

Sharon: Okay, um, do you know when that might be?

Avery: Soon... "ish."

Sharon: Oh.

Avery: The wheels of justice do move slow.

Sharon: Yeah, it seems like they move in slow motion for me.

Avery: Remember what Victor said-- don't let anything get you down.

Sharon: I won't.

Avery: Okay.

Noah: So Adam put it all back on Mom and wouldn't own up to anything.

Nick: No surprise there.

Noah: Then he tried to turn it around on me. Came at me for not going to see Mom since she was transferred to prison.

Nick: (Sighs) Look, Son, just... try and let it go, all right?

Noah: You know, the thing is, he's right. I should be there helping her get through this. I-I want to be there... only... only I don't know what to say to her. I mean, how do you go back to normal conversation after everything she put us through? "Hey, Mom, I just recorded this really awesome song, and by the way, thanks for letting us believe you were dead."

Nick: Look, you don't have to say anything, okay? You just show up and let your mom know you care. That should be enough for her. And maybe for you, too.

Noah: Thanks. I know it's not easy for you to talk about Mom.

Nick: Noah, if it'll help you, I'll talk about anything.

Noah: Including why you seem kind of down tonight? Something happen?

Phyllis: (Sighs) "Deacon Sharpe's list of dirty deeds is legendary. From Los Angeles to Genoa City, he's logged more crime than Bonnie and Clyde-- blackmail, kidnapping, accessory to murder. 'Restless Style' has learned..." oh, no, they can't trace it back to me.

(Elevator door opens)

Deacon: Wow, Phyllis. How many secrets can one woman have? You know, Gloria called and, uh, said that you wanted to see my time card from the night that, uh, Diane was killed.

Phyllis: And?

Deacon: Well, I-I gotta tell you, on a personal note, I'm a little hurt that you didn't believe my alibi.

Phyllis: You're kidding me, right?

Deacon: It's a good thing she vouched for my whereabouts, because now you know that I couldn't have possibly been in the park when Diane was killed.

Phyllis: Deacon, you were there.

Deacon: Phyllis, so were you. I know it, and you know it. And Diane sure as hell knew it. Now the only question is, are the cops gonna find out?

Phyllis: Oh, I'm tired of this. I've heard this all before. Please, stop playing games. Why don't you slither out of here and leave me alone?

Deacon: Okay, I'll tell you what, why don't you, uh, you tell Nick I said hi?

Phyllis: Yeah, I'll do that.

Deacon: Mm. Yeah, you see, he, uh, he stopped by earlier at my table, you know? We had a little talk.

Phyllis: Are you kidding me?

Deacon: No, no, no. Uh, it was right after you, uh, made your dramatic exit out of the club. You see, he felt that somehow I was implying that he might have offed Diane, wanted to set me straight, and, uh, I don't know. He--he said that he was here with you working all night long, but wait a second. You--you're lying about that night, which means that he's lying about that night. Wait a minute. That--that means that either one of you could have killed her.

Victor: You know damn well that photo could be doctored by some eager detective out to prove himself.

Ronan: (Chuckles) Well, it's a good thing our forensic lab authenticated the picture then, isn't it?

Man: It's, uh, Boss? (Clears throat) There's nothing.

Victor: Well, I guess your cops didn't find a damn thing, did they? Why don't you show yourself out?

Ronan: I just have one more question for you. Where were you when Diane was murdered?

Victoria: He was with me.

Ronan: (Chuckles) (Sighs) (Chuckles) So why am I just now hearing about this?

Victoria: I was embarrassed about it, okay? My husband left me, and I was a wreck, and I didn't want people to hear that my daddy had to hold my hand the whole night to calm me down.

Ronan: So was this here, or was it at your place? What time did the two--?

Victor: Detective, you're beginning to bother me now. You barge into my house and you make claims that you can't substantiate. Now get out, for the last time.

Ronan: I'll be in touch.

Victor: I said get out!

Victor: What happened?

Victoria: Uh, Daddy, the most interesting thing happened this evening. A man named Sam stopped by, and you probably think that I'm here to tell you that it was presumptuous of you to send him my way, but actually, I think it might be a good thing. It'd be nice to have somebody around, and--

Victor: You're avoiding the subject, my sweetheart. You just walked in on something. What happened, hmm?

Victoria: I'm not. I don't want to talk about it. I don't want to talk about it.

Victor: Well, you'd better talk about it, because what you said is not true. You and I have nothing to hide now, do we? Hmm?

Deacon: Well, at least you know where I was that night. But I gotta tell ya, I-I really wonder where Nick was, you know, when Diane took her final breath.

Phyllis: Leave Nick out of this.

Deacon: (Sighs) I really wish that I could do that. I do. But when I found out what you did in the park, I didn't-- I haven't gone to the police because you and I, we-- we have a-a connection. But Nick? Well, that's a whole different story.

Nick: Hey...

Noah: (Sighs)

Nick: I don't want you worrying about your old man, all right? I just got a lot going on at the magazine right now.

Noah: You sure?

Nick: Yes. So you gonna go see your mom tonight?

Noah: Probably. Maybe.

Nick: I want you to do me a favor-- I want you to really try and forgive your mom, okay? She's made a lot of mistakes, but she loves you very much, and so do I. You know, if I got in some deep water like this, I'd like to think that you'd be able to forgive me, too.

Noah: (Scoffs) Like you would ever do anything that could get you tossed into prison.

(Cell phone alert beeps)

Nick: (Sighs)

Noah: Oh, it's Devon. I gotta call him back.

Nick: Sure.

(Cell phone rings)

(Ring)

Nick: Hello? I will kill you before I let you hurt them again. Do you hear me? I'll kill you.

(Cell phone alert chimes)

Nick: (Sighs)

Sharon: Why are you here?

Adam: Your lawyer has been asking me questions. I figured maybe you wanted to talk to me face-to-face, ask the questions yourself.

Sharon: That's not why you're here.

Adam: It's not?

Sharon: I was the one person who believed in you. I was the one person who gave you a chance to redeem yourself, and you can't walk away from that or me.

Adam: You couldn't be more off base. I'm over you.

Sharon: No, you're not. You've just replaced the love with hate. You're doing everything you can to make sure that I stay in here. You're not doing anything to help me, but you know what? You're doing that for the wrong reasons. You think that I betrayed you by staying away? I did that to protect you because I loved you.

Adam: You have a funny way of showing it.

Sharon: You're talking about Sam. You know what? I'm not gonna make any excuses, but that is just something that happened. And now there's nothing more between us. You're making a lot of presumptions about me, Adam, that are not true.

Sam: Sharon, you okay?

Daniel: So, um, do you want to maybe get some Chinese food or something? You know, like we, um... Okay, look, I'm just gonna on ahead and I'm gonna put this out there. That was a little unexpected, but... I mean... it felt right, right?

Lily: Yeah, I-I mean, after last night, I-I didn't think that we would be doing... you know, it. Actually, I-I came here to apologize for not. (Chuckles) But, um, yeah. It felt right.

Gloria: You know, according to the newspaper, that, uh, murder investigation's at a standstill. That's a tactic, isn't it? I mean, they, uh, do that so the, uh, murderer gets a false sense of security and he slips up and makes a mistake, right? Am I right?

Ronan: Well, I can't really discuss an ongoing investigation. I mean, that is unless you have something that you want to tell me about it.

Gloria: Coffee's on the house, Detective.

Ronan: Thank you.

Ronan: Heather.

Adam: Well, Sam, you have the worst timing. Sharon here was being very convincing, making me believe that you were out of her life. But then whoops. You show up and you blow it.

Sharon: Adam, listen to me.

Adam: I'm not gonna believe a word that you say.

Sharon: I wasn't lying to you.

Adam: You were. But that's okay. I don't care, because I feel nothing for you. I'd tell you to go to hell, but you're already there.

Adam: She's all yours. Good luck.

Sam: (Clears throat)

Phyllis: Nick is not a pawn in your twisted game. Do whatever you want to me--

Deacon: Ooh... (Chuckles) I like the sound of that. I tell you what, let's, um, let's table this little discussion about Nick until tomorrow. We'll have dinner. You, um, you wear something sexy. Kiss good-bye? I thought it was a long shot.

Phyllis: I can't do this. I can't do this. Oh, my God, he has me. I can't run the risk of upsetting him and ruin Nick's alibi.

Phyllis: If only it were that easy to delete Deacon.

Victoria: Look, we were both alone that night, and I've seen enough bad cop movies to know that that's a pretty weak alibi, and, you know, nobody's gonna know that I told a little white lie.

Victor: You don't need to protect me, okay?

Victoria: I love you, Dad. I love you.

Victor: I love you, too, my darling, okay?

Victoria: No matter what.

Victor: No matter what.

Next on "The Young and the Restless...

Phyllis: Since we're on the subject of strange bedfellows, what about you and Ashley?

Paul: If you know anything, and I mean anything at all, you better come forward now.

Ashley: Nicholas and I have a confession to make.
