Ronan: Did you find out the paper's source for the crime scene photo?
Paul: Uh, yeah, I got a few leads, nothing solid.
Ronan: And how did Abby Newman know that the victim had poison sumac? We need to lock this investigation up.
Paul: That's a very good point. Let's start with this.
Ronan: What? What are you doing? What are you--?
Paul: I've transferred all this information to an electronic file and a hard copy in a binder, so we don't need this anymore.
Ronan: Okay, fine.
Paul: Does that work?
Ronan: I guess.
Paul: Okay. What are those? Are those the pillows that, uh, you found in Diane's hotel suite?
Ronan: Yes, they are. Kyle says he's never seen them before.
Paul: I agree. They're way too folksy for Diane. Do you think this could be some bizarre message from the killer?
Ronan: I don't know. I want to get another look at that security footage from outside of her room.
Paul: Okay, well...
Ronan: It's okay.
Abby: Um, I-- I can come back. (Chuckles)
Ronan: No, it's okay. Paul knows about your theory.
Abby: What, it's still just my theory? You guys haven't arrested Tucker?
Ronan: Based on, what a bottle of calamine lotion? No, I haven't. I need a little bit more evidence than that, and that's why I'm hoping that you're going to wear a wire for us.
Abby: (Scoffs)
Tucker: Hey.
Ashley: Hi.
Tucker: I brought your mail.
Ashley: Thank you.
Tucker: Uh... (Sighs) I thought maybe we could, uh, grab a cup of coffee together.
Ashley: I can't. I'm going to Diane's funeral.
Tucker: Seriously?
Ashley: Yeah, for Kyle's sake.
Tucker: Well, I should go with you. Well, if you go alone, or we show up there separately, it's gonna draw attention. You know, I thought, um, I thought things were a little better between us last night. I think it's time you pack up and move out of this place and come on home.
Ashley: You know, I'm not really sure I'm ready to do that. The more I think about what you did-- and I'm not talking about you sleeping with Diane. Please. I'm talking about, um, how you treated Abby and the damage that you did to my relationship with my daughter in order to protect yourself. Now you tell me, how do I forgive that?
Victor: So you agree with our in-house counsel?
Michael: Well, everything seems to be in order, and it's a smart acquisition. You shouldn't have any trouble getting the board's approval.
Victor: (Sighs) It used to be that I just signed the damn thing and have it over with. Now I have to wait for their damn approval and bring them up to speed.
Michael: Well, that's one of the drawbacks of taking the company public, but we knew that going in. Uh, there is somewhere I need to be.
Victor: Are you talking about Diane's funeral?
Michael: Yes. I trust you understand.
Victor: Of course I understand. And you did a great thing, all right? Kyle will be grateful. I appreciate it.
Jack: I think you're gonna like the job they did on the alterations. Kyle?
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Jack: This is not gonna be an easy day for you. There's no way around it. But I want you to know, you will not be alone. I will be with you every step of the way.
Kyle: Do you think anybody else will come?
Jack: (Sighs)
Adam: Don't worry. I'm not, uh, I'm not staying. I just figured before everybody else shows up, I could pay my respects.
Lauren: Your respects?
Adam: Diane wasn't the easiest person to get along with. But, uh, I liked her. We clicked. She kept things interesting.
Lauren: I just saw Kyle at Fenmore's picking up his suit for the service. (Sighs) You and I both know what it's like to lose a parent that was your rock.
Adam: Yes. And we were adults, so I can't even imagine.
Lauren: You should stay for the service.
Adam: (Sighs) I think that you, uh, you might want to talk to your husband about that before you extend that kind of invitation.
Lauren: Michael arranged this service for Kyle so he could see that there were other people that shared his sadness.
Adam: Uh, I don't think people would want me here. I'm sure you're aware I don't have many friends in this town.
Lauren: And neither did Diane, so it's the least you could do for her. (Sighs)
Victoria: (Sighs) Okay, I'm officially pathetic.
Nick: Why?
Victoria: Look, I know you dragged me out of the house so that I would stop thinking about Billy, but I just saw a pastry, and it reminded me of how he used to bring me treats from here as a peace offering whenever we would argue.
Nick: (Sighs) All right, let's go do something fun. Let's go see a movie or something.
Victoria: No, actually, I think I'm... (Sighs) I think I'm gonna go to Diane's funeral.
Nick: Really?
Victoria: Yeah, look, I hate to bring up Billy again, but Kyle is his nephew, and he's AWOL, so I feel like I need to represent or something. (Sighs) I just wish this whole mess with Diane would just go away.
Nick: Me, too.
Phyllis: What are you doing here?
Deacon: I just wasn't sure, uh, you heard me last time when I said I saw what you did.
Phyllis: Um, yes, I did. Um, now watch what I am doing. See my hand reaching for the phone?
Deacon: Uh-huh.
Phyllis: I'm calling the cops because you appear to be a stalker.
Deacon: Yeah, I saw you, uh, you arguing with Diane.
Phyllis: That is not a shock.
Deacon: Well, this was-- this was the night she died. Yeah, see, I saw you chasing after her with a rock in your hand. Now you still want to, uh, you still want to call the cops?
Nick: Here, let me see that. (Sighs)
Victoria: Why?
Nick: I got a new cell phone number. I'm gonna program it in there for you.
Victoria: What? Why'd you get a new number?
Nick: Uh, I was just dodging telemarketers. Every other call I was getting was from someone I didn't want to talk to.
Victoria: Okay. Well, I better get going if I'm gonna make this funeral.
Nick: You know what, Vick? I'll go instead, okay? I mean, I was thinking of going anyway, and I will tell Kyle that he's in your thoughts.
Victoria: Oh, really? Would you?
Nick: Sure.
Victoria: (Sighs)
Nick: But you've gotta promise me that you're not gonna just work all day.
Victoria: No, I won't. I'll be completely lazy.
Nick: Perfect. That's what I want to hear. I'll see you later.
Victoria: See you later.
(Cell phone rings)
Nick: Hello? Shut up. You shut up. I'm sick of you threatening my family. I'm telling you right now, I'm not gonna let it happen anymore. I will kill you before I let you hurt them again. Do you hear me? I'll kill you.
Phyllis: If you saw me that night running after Diane, then you also saw that she got away and I lost her. I couldn't find her.
Deacon: Hmm. That's--that's not exactly what you told the cops, though, is t?
Phyllis: Is this a shakedown? Are you looking for a payout?
Deacon: No, I'm not- I'm not looking for any money. I just, um... (Sighs) I wanted to ask you out.
Phyllis: What?
Deacon: You're a beautiful woman, Phyllis. I'm attracted to you.
(Elevator door opens)
Deacon: I'll call you, and we'll make some plans, okay?
Abby: I'm not wearing a wire.
Ronan: You gave me the impression the other day that you were serious about tucker as a suspect.
Abby: Well, yeah. But look what Tucker did to Diane. I don't feel safe around him. (Scoffs) Here's an idea-- how about you guys do your job without putting innocent civilians in the line of fire? I have already risked my life just telling you what I know. What?
Ronan: Nothing. No, please, I mean, don't let me stop you. We wouldn't want Tucker showing up thinking that you've been cooperative in any way.
Mauro: I got your message. What's up?
Ronan: We are going to a funeral.
Mauro: Diane's?
Ronan: Mm-hmm. It's always interesting to see who shows up.
Paul: And who doesn't.
Ronan: Mm-hmm.
Mauro: Well, here's something I think you're gonna be interested in. I got a report the department of fish and game had a camera stolen from the park.
Ronan: Would that camera happen to have conveniently been located near the site of a murder?
Mauro: And I don't think it's a coincidence.
Ronan: (Sighs)
Ashley: Tucker, if I'm-- if I'm ever gonna be ready to move past this whole thing, I'm just gonna need some space and some time.
Tucker: All right. Well least, uh, you should let me come to the funeral with you. I mean, whatever else is going on between us, we should still work together to keep the truth from coming out about Abby.
Ashley: Okay.
Tucker: I'll go home and change. I'll be right back.
Ashley: (Gasps) Oh, my God.
Kyle: Are they gonna expect me to say something at the funeral?
Jack: No, unless you want to say something.
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Jack: Hey, hey, you know what? Don't worry about it. It isn't like this is the last chance you'll ever get to talk about your mom or to your mom. You know, I still talk to my dad from time to time.
Kyle: (Sniffles) I just want to tell her how sorry I am.
Jack: Wait, wait, wait. Sorry about what?
Kyle: That I left town. (Sniffles) That I wasn't here when it all--
Jack: Wait, wait, wait. Kyle, listen to me.
Kyle: It all happened.
Jack: You are not to blame for any of this. You were always there for your mom and you did your very best to protect her. There are some things a kid your age just can't help.
Kyle: I protected you.
Jack: Me?
Kyle: When the police were looking for your class ring, I hid it.
Ashley: Okay. (Sighs)
(Knock on door)
Tucker: Ashley, ready to go?
Ashley: Yeah, just a second.
Ashley: Hi.
Tucker: Let's get this over with.
Ashley: Okay.
Michael: He's got a whole hell of a lot of nerve.
Lauren: Oh, I asked him to stay. You know, as far as Kyle's concerned, he's a friend of Diane's.
Michael: Like that's not gonna backfire.
Ronan: Could I have a word?
Michael: Sure.
Paul: So you pulled this together pretty quickly.
Lauren: Hi.
Paul: Hi.
Lauren: Um, well, you know, it was mostly Michael. When he saw that Jack had his hands full and... he wanted to do something for Kyle.
Paul: How's Kyle doing?
Lauren: It's rough. It's rough to lose your mom.
Paul: For some people.
Lauren: Yeah, what is the story about him suddenly reappearing?
Paul: I don't know. It's a bigger mystery than the murder.
Ronan: I want you to know that the police aren't here to interfere with the service at all. We're not here to intrude on anyone's grief.
Michael: Well, whatever you have to do to get Diane's killer is fine by me, but I don't know how many people you should expect to show up at this service, aside from Adam, Lauren, and myself. It could be just jack and Kyle.
Ronan: I don't know. I think you might be surprised.
Victor: I didn't expect to see you here.
Nick: Yeah, I wasn't planning on being here, but... I felt like I owed it to her.
Victor: Let's go.
Victor: Come her to admire your handiwork, or what?
Adam: I had no motive to murder Diane. If anyone did, it was you.
Victor: Or so you're trying to make it appear.
Adam: Like I said, you saved me the trouble of having to frame you by killing her for real.
Victor: You honestly think that ridiculous story is gonna keep you out of jail? I got news for you-- it ain't. You're gonna rot in hell. There's no one left that you can manipulate to get you out. You're totally and utterly alone. The only ally you had you murdered.
Ashley: Hey, can I talk to you for a second?
Nick: Yeah. Everything all right?
Ashley: Um, somebody sent me a photo of me in the park the night that Diane died.
Nick: Sent you-- where, to your phone?
Ashley: No. No, um, through the mail anonymously to Tucker's apartment. What if he'd opened it? Look, I have no idea where it came from.
Nick: All right... (Sighs) Whoever's doing this is just trying to freak you out. Don't let that happen, all right? Stay strong don't let it get to you. (Sighs)
Ronan: Sorry to interrupt. I just thought that I should mention I subpoenaed your phone records, and I'm aware that you talked to Ashley the night of the murder.
Nick: Okay.
Ronan: It was just interesting to me that, um, the call pinged off the cell tower that was right next to the park.
Tucker: What do you think that's all about?
Abby: I don't know.
Tucker: Well, you know, the detective paid me a visit last night asking about my hand.
Abby: Hmm.
Tucker: So'd your mom.
Abby: (Clicks lips)
Tucker: It's all right, Abby. I know you're spreading rumors that I had something to do with Diane's death. I'm not too concerned about it, because, you know, everybody knows making wild accusations is like a hobby of yours. I don't think anyone'll take it too seriously.
Abby: (Scoffs)
Tucker: But if you're worried that I'll retaliate by telling the truth about your, uh, driving record...
Abby: (Clears throat)
Tucker: Don't be.
Abby: Okay, shh.
Tucker: Okay.
Adam: In case there was any doubt, Diane signed her kid over to you on my orders. It wasn't about her respecting you. As a matter of fact, it was quite the opposite. She wanted him as far away from you as possible.
Michael: Hey, Kyle, uh, I'd like you to meet the Reverend Fulton. This is Kyle.
Reverend Fulton: I'm so sorry for your loss, Kyle.
Jack: We can begin whenever you're ready. We'll sit right here.
Michael: (Clears throat)
Reverend Fulton: The Lord has said to us, blessed are they who mourn, for they shall be comforted." And we are here today to fulfill that promise, for even as we mourn the loss of a beloved mother and friend, we can comfort one another, and especially her son Kyle. On his behalf, I want to welcome you here today to pay tribute to Diane's memory. Your presence signifies that she touched each of your lives in a very special way. Almighty God, you love everyone you have made and judge us with infinite mercy. Lift us from anxiety and guilt to the love and peace of your presence through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
Jack: Amen.
Reverend Fulton: In conclusion, I would like to invite anyone who wishes to come up and say a few words.
Jack: It is strange for me to think of a world without Diane in it. Her history and mine were intertwined since we were barely adults. She was audacious, mischievous, irreverent, and gorgeous. She had a confidence and a savvy about her that was well beyond her years. All in all-- irresistible. And I didn't know at the time the profound impact she would have on my life. She gave me my son, and for that... for that, I am forever grateful. So in a very real sense, I am not facing a world without Diane in it... because the very best of Diane lives on in Kyle.
Michael: As close as our friendship was, uh, I'm realizing there's a lot Diane never told me about herself, but I have a theory. I think Diane grew up watching a lot of Mae West marathons. To paraphrase, it is not the friends in your life, it is the life in your friends. And I-I am hard-pressed to think of anyone more lively than Diane. She was irrepressible, often, frequently to my consternation. She lived and loved without restraint. And those of us who were blessed by her boundless affection and devotion will have memories of our time with her that we will cherish forever. Diane... Diane's struggles are over now. She's at rest, and I'd like to think at peace... finally. But... I am not at peace. I am having trouble... I am having trouble accepting what happened. But I'll-- I'll miss her terribly.
Victor: It is said that Diane was strong-willed and beautiful and quick-witted. All that is true. But she also had a softer side, and never was that more evident than when she dealt with you, Kyle, her son, her pride and joy. She adored you. She loved you. And I promised I would take care of you, and that is what your mother wanted.
Reverend Fulton: (Sighs) In closing, let us remember Jesus' words-- " Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again, and you will rejoice." And, Lord, we know there will come a time when we will see Diane again in your presence, and we will rejoice. Go now in peace and love to serve the Lord.
Ronan: Hey, Kyle. There's something that I need to talk to your dad about real fast. Would you mind waiting outside for us? Just one second.
Jack: Uh, I-it's okay. You can wait in the car. Could you get him out there?
Reverend Fulton: Yeah.
Jack: Thanks.
Reverend Fulton: Kyle.
Kyle: Okay.
Jack: Thanks, Kyle. Okay, what is this?
Ronan: Detective Mauro? Everyone, if you wouldn't mind taking your seats again for just a few minutes... because I have some information I think that you all need to know. (Sighs)
Victor: Can he do this?
Ronan: Over the past few days, I've been lied to quite a bit by the majority of people in this room. Now I'm gonna go out on a limb here and assume you didn't all conspire to kill Diane Jenkins, so then it follows that most of you are lying to cover your own butt about something else. Now that's a big mistake. We've recovered a lot of physical evidence from the crime scene. We can place many of you there beyond a shadow of a doubt.
Paul: He's not bluffing. We have footprints. We have many personal items that were either dropped or placed at the scene.
Nick: What kind of items?
Ronan: Among other things, jewelry and a key. Oh, we also have Diane's phone records, so then you know that we know she texted many of you not long before she died, which means this-- those of you that aren't giving us a truthful account of your whereabouts and activities that night, you're leaving to up to somebody else to do for you. Look around this room. Are you confident they have your back? Are you comfortable putting your freedom and your future in these peoples' hands? If so, by all means, maintain your silence. If not, you know where to find me.
Abby: Well, that was completely inappropriate.
Jack: At least he had the decency to make sure Kyle didn't hear it. I gotta get him home.
Victor: Sweetheart, don't be swayed by that grandstanding show-off of a detective, all right? He is bluffing-- obviously bluffing. So don't you say anything that will incriminate yourself,
Abby: I won't. I-I haven't. I just hope that nobody else does.
Ashley: So do you buy this whole idea that Detective Malloy has a secret source feeding him information?
Phyllis: No, I-I think that was a fishing expedition.
Ashley: Yeah, you're probably right.
Tucker: I don't think it's anything any of us have to worry about.
Jack: I understand your wanting to come back and say a private good-bye to your mom. She will always be a part of you. You'll be aware of her presence in your heart, in your mind.
Victor: Kyle, I have something for you.
Victor: This picture I took when last you and your mother went riding.
Kyle: That's really nice. Thank you.
Lauren: Kyle? Would you like to take home the condolence book?
Kyle: Yes, please.
Michael: Reverend Fulton did a good job, didn't he?
Lauren: Yeah.
Victor: I didn't discuss the custody agreement with you for obvious reasons.
Jack: That agreement has no validity.
Victor: We shall see about that, Jack.
Jack: (Quietly) Damn you, Diane. Even from your grave, you're gonna try to keep him away from me. I stopped you once. I will do it again.
Phyllis: Hey, can I ask you a question?
Nick: Sure.
Phyllis: What's going on between you and Ashley?
Nick: What do you mean?
Phyllis: Well, I saw you talking at the church--again. You seemed kind of intense.
Nick: She feels badly for Kyle.
Phyllis: Mm.
Nick: If Ronan wasn't bluffing and there is someone who is implicating someone else, who do you think that could be?
Phyllis: Who knows?
Ashley: Funerals are bad enough without having to have Paul and Ronan digging around. What if they find that video of Abby confessing that she was the one that hit you with the car?
Tucker: Listen, if they were gonna find it, they would have found it by now.
Ashley: (Sighs) I hope you're right.
Tucker: You didn't say anything to Nick about any of this, did you?
Ashley: No, why?
Tucker: Well, after you talked to him, you seemed to be more anxious.
Ashley: Believe me, I've just been anxious all day long.
Tucker: Okay. I'm gonna use the head.
Ashley: (Sighs) Nick, its Ashley. I'm sure I don't have to tell you this, but please don't repeat what I told you earlier, and as soon as you hear this message, delete it immediately. Thank you.
Abby: What if it's Adam who's been going to Ronan behind our backs? He is an expert-- an expert at framing people.
Victoria: Abby, Abby, maybe no one went to Ronan. Maybe he's just making all of it up.
Abby: He's not making all of it up, 'cause he knew about the key.
Victoria: Of course he did. It was found in Diane's throat.
Abby: No, I mean, he knew it had something to do with me. He looked right at me when he brought it up.
Victoria: Are you sure you're not reading more into this?
Abby: No, I think someone told Ronan about my video confession, and they told him that that key would lead him to it.
Victoria: Someone. Someone, meaning Adam?
Abby: Yeah, I mean, he's one of the few people who knew about it. I mean, besides Kent and Dad and Michael and Mom and Tucker and you.
Victoria: (Sighs)
Abby: I mean, you didn't?
Victoria: What? Of course not. Now why would I do something like that?
Abby: No, I'm sorry. I know. No, you wouldn't. You wouldn't. I'm sorry. Just forget I asked that. It was stupid.
Victoria: Yeah, stupid.
Abby: (Sighs)
Paul: So, uh, maybe we should start a pool, you know? Place our bets as to, uh, who will be first to take the bait.
Ronan: (Chuckles) Hmm. Can I help you, Mr. Newman?
Adam: I've waited long enough. The letter you found of Diane's where it clears me with the S.E.C. -- you need to turn that into the judge. I'm tired of that indictment hangin' over my head.
Ronan: I can do that as soon as you explain to me why you transferred money to a Swiss bank account in Diane Jenkins' name.
Adam: Withholding my letter--
Ronan: Right.
Paul: Hmm. One down, eight to go.
Ronan: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Can't wait.
Next on "The Young and the Restless" --
Jill: Would you care to join me?
Phyllis: You're married.
Daniel: (Clears throat)
Lily: Uh, I'm-- I'm getting divorced.
Phyllis: Mm-hmm. Amber, Abby--enough said.
Daniel: Two adults.
