Episode # 9716 ~ Abby Accuses Tucker of Diane's Murder
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Kevin: More coffee?
Michael: Yes. What's wrong with you?
Kevin: Nothing. I'm fine.
Lauren: How's Chloe?
Kevin: Why don't you ask her? We broke up.
Michael: Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no.
Lauren: Wait, Honey. Honey, maybe he needs a minute.
Michael: What's this? Get a paper and have breakfast over Diane Jenkins' dead body?
Lauren: I know. Can you believe it?
Michael: Did you read the story?
Lauren: Yeah, I could barely get past the picture and that... (Shudders) The caption. And if it's that upsetting to us, can you imagine--
Michael: I don't think they're concerned about a young boy missing his mom.
Jack: Hey. You want some breakfast?
Kyle: Can I see that?
Jack: I don't think that's a good idea.
Kyle: I can just go online and see it anyway.
Jack: Hey, Honey, that's enough.
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Jack: You okay? You want to sit down?
Kyle: What's "Bludgeoned"?
Jack: It means she was beaten.
Kyle: On the back of her head with a rock?
Jack: Yeah.
Kyle: You told me it happened in Town Park. That's right across the street from here.
Jack: Yeah, it is.
Kyle: I want to see her. I want to see my mom.
Jack: Uh, no, listen, Kyle. I'm not gonna let that happen.
Kyle: I've already seen the picture. What's the difference?
Jack: Kyle, there are some memories you don't need to have.
Kyle: (Sniffles) Fine. Then I'm going to see where she was killed.
Jack: Kyle. Kyle, wait. I'll take you.
Nina: Coffee, please. Oh, look, you're still in town.
Ronan: Believe me, it's just temporary.
Nina: If I'd have known I was gonna see you, I'd have brought a present.
Ronan: Don't do that.
Nina: What? Can't I wish my firstborn son a happy birthday?
Ronan: Look, I'm-- I'm in the middle of something right now.
Nina: (Scoffs)
Ronan: I've got a lot of work going on.
Nina: Do you expect me to just pretend that you don't exist?
Ronan: Yes.
Nina: (Sighs) You used me and your brother. You got what you wanted, and you just left without any explanation.
Ronan: Can you just leave it alone, please?
Nina: You know, I didn't think my heart could break any more after the day you were taken from me. But I was wrong. What you did--
(Saucer clinks)
Nina: (Sighs) What you did...
(Saucer clinks)
Tucker: (Sighs) "Voluntary liquidation..." "Voluntary liquidation of McCall assets..." "Voluntary liquidation of McCall assets to..." (Sighs) "To Chancellor Industries." That's--
(Knock on door) (Knock)
Tucker: What the hell do you want?
Kay: I do not know what you and Ashley are trying to pull, but by God, it's not going to work.
Tucker: What are you talking about?
Kay: Ashley offered to accept the annulment.
Abby: Finally, you moved out of Tucker's apartment.
Ashley: Yeah, I needed some space.
Abby: Yeah, well, who could blame you after he fessed up to his little sleepover with Diane?
Ashley: You know?
Abby: Tucker called me over yesterday. Wanted to play "Taxicab confessions," so...
Ashley: Wow, I guess he wanted to do the right thing.
Abby: That would require a moral compass, and we're talking about Tucker McCall, so--
Ashley: You know what? I want you to know how sorry I am that I didn't believe you, and how very sorry I am about everything that happened as a result.
Abby: It's okay. It's okay. I-I just kept pushing because I love you.
Ashley: I know.
Abby: Oh, thank you! Thank you, thank you...
Ashley: (Laughs)
Abby: For finally dumping that dog. Thank you. (Sighs) Well, you did end it completely, right? What is it gonna take, Mom? Are you kidding me?
Ashley: It's a very--it's a-- it's a complicated situation.
Abby: No. No, Mom. Wake up.
Ashley: Yes, it is. Yes, it is.
Abby: Tucker is a user...
Ashley: Abby--
Abby: Who will do anything to get what he wants, including murder.
Ashley: Abby!
Abby: I think that Tucker killed Diane. Uh oh!!
Ashley: How can you come up with an accusation like that, Abby?
Abby: The evidence was right in front of my eyeballs.
Ashley: I think that's impossible, Honey.
Abby: I saw the calamine lotion at his apartment, okay? I saw him scratching his hand.
Ashley: What does that have to do with anything?
Abby: Poison sumac was found around Diane's neck.
Ashley: How do you know that? It wasn't in the news. It wasn't in any newspapers.
Abby: I just know, okay? (Stammers) There's poison sumac all over the Town Park.
Ashley: I-I still don't see what this has to do--
Abby: I think that Tucker is covering up his sumac with that bandage. He's claiming its carpal tunnel. From what? Counting his money over and over and over again?
Ashley: You know what? I think it's just a coincidence, and you're overreacting to the whole thing.
Abby: What if Tucker was still seeing Diane on the side? I mean, Tucker wouldn't let you know.
Ashley: I don't believe he was. He wasn't. He was not.
Abby: He wouldn't, and whenever Diane threatened that she was gonna tell everything...
Ashley: Abby--
Abby: I think that Tucker went after her like a jackhammer with that rock.
Ashley: Abby, he had nothing to hide, okay? Because Diane told me about it. She told me about the affair before she died.
Abby: Okay, then it was revenge.
Ashley: Oh, you know what I think it is? I bet that Tucker was trying to protect you, because he knew that Diane had a video of you confessing to hitting him with the car.
Abby: So you admit Tucker could have done it?
Ashley: I'm being facetious, okay?
Abby: I am going to the cops.
Ashley: Oh, no, you're not. No, you're not. Stop. Stop it. You're not getting involved in this, okay? You're staying out of it for everybody's sake, including your own. Do you understand me?
Tucker: Ashley did what?
Kay: (Clears throat) Ashley agreed not to fight the annulment... if I signed McCall back over to you. Uh, tell me, um, what did she expect in exchange?
Tucker: In exchange?
Kay: For turning the power back over to you. I mean, surely she was exacting a price. I mean, um, the sale of Jabot to her, perhaps?
Tucker: Ashley would never do that.
Kay: She'd never leave you to put the family business back in the hands of the Abbotts? Oh, well, we'll see about that. As for McCall, I have a lot at stake in the success of that company. Oh, and then there's this-- this investigation into Diane's murder-- well, her death or whatever.
Tucker: Yeah, what about it?
Kay: If anything comes from that, it could prove disastrous if you are in charge.
Tucker: What are you implying?
Kay: You know and I know you are not well yet. And, by God, I will continue to protect you from yourself! What does it take to get through to you? What in the hell does it take?!
Tucker: (Sighs)
Kyle: (Sighs) (Sniffles)
Kyle: Is that the place?
Jack: I think so.
Kyle: How long did it take for...?
Jack: It was a few hours before Murphy found her.
Kyle: Do you think there's a heaven?
Jack: I think your grandfather's there... and Colleen.
Kyle: And my mom?
Jack: Yeah.
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Jack: Because of how much she loved you, I think Diane's in heaven.
Kyle: Dad, I don't get it. What did my mom do that was so bad that... s-somebody killed her for it?
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Jack: That's a good question, Son.
Kyle: (Sniffles)
Nina: Hey, Paul.
Paul: Hi.
Nina: Are you here to see me?
Paul: Uh, well, actually, I'm here to see Katherine about a case.
Nina: Oh, okay.
Paul: Esther let me in.
Nina: Well, I'm sure Katherine will be back soon, so I'll see you.
Paul: You, uh, didn't answer any of my calls.
Nina: (Sighs) (Stammers) I've just been really busy, and...
Paul: Busy avoiding me? Is it still this Ronan thing? That I didn't leave you a message that he was back in town?
Nina: No, no, I told you, it--it's fine.
Paul: But you're still mad.
Nina: I'm angry at a lot of things.
Paul: What are you thinking? You think we should just accept that... it's not working out?
Nina: (Sighs)
Lauren: Hey. So do you want to talk about it, or just go on pretending that nothing's wrong?
Kevin: Talk about what?
Lauren: Whatever Chloe did or said.
Kevin: Chloe didn't break up with me. I broke up with her.
Lauren: Oh.
Kevin: See, that--why? Why is that a news flash?
Lauren: No, it's not a news flash.
Kevin: Like-- like I'm not allowed to get fed up with her constant rants about Ronan or--or Billy or whatever other jerk she has decided to involve herself with.
Lauren: All right, do you want me to beat her up? Because I'm pretty sure I could take her.
Kevin: (Chuckles) Yeah, maybe.
Lauren: (Laughs)
Kevin: And then can you tell me, Lauren, what is wrong with me? Its like-- I am like a weigh station for women, this pit stop before they move on to something better. Its like, am I always gonna be relegated to playing the role of "Duckie"?
Lauren: Duckie?
Kevin: Never mind. It doesn't even matter anymore. (Sighs)
Michael: Oh, hey, Guys.
Jack: Hey.
Michael: Kyle, um, I'm sorry about what happened to your mother. If there's anything I can do to help you, you let me know, okay?
Kyle: Thanks.
Jack: Here. Get yourself an iced whatever you want, okay?
Jack: (Sighs)
Michael: How's he doin'?
Jack: Well, pretty much as you'd expect. He has a lot of questions. How are you doing?
Michael: Well, it's bad enough to lose a friend. But the way it happened...
(Cell phone rings)
Jack: Oh. Sorry to do this. Jack Abbott. Can you--you hold for just a second? Listen, I am trying to get the cops to let Kyle into Diane's hotel suite so that he can get the rest of his stuff out of there, and anything he wants of hers. They're not exactly cooperating.
Michael: You want my help?
Jack: Maybe, but could you keep him occupied while I try to work with them?
Michael: Yeah, sure, sure.
Jack: Thanks. You still there?
Michael: Hey, um, your dad had to step out to take a phone call.
Kyle: Okay.
Michael: Uh, well, hey, um, why don't you sit down?
Michael: Uh, would you like something to eat with that?
Kyle: (Sighs) Maybe you can tell me, 'cause my dad won't. Why did everybody hate my mom?
Mauro: You wanted to see me? Happy birthday, by the way.
Ronan: Yeah, thanks. Did your department release these crime scene photos?
Mauro: Of course not.
Ronan: Detective Mauro, you gotta be straight with me right now. This could compromise our entire investigation.
Mauro: No one in our department would have authorized that officially.
Ronan: Okay. Then we have a leak on our hands. I want the personnel files of everybody that had access of these photos.
Mauro: (Scoffs)
Abby: I have a hot tip for you. I know who murdered Diane Jenkins.
Tucker: Hey.
Ashley: Hi.
Tucker: You know, you could have used your key. We are still married, you know.
Ashley: So you told Abby the truth about you and Diane?
Tucker: I did. I thought about what you said-- that it was my fault she spun out of control, and I wanted to take responsibility for that.
Ashley: How's your carpal tunnel?
Tucker: It's uncomfortable. Ashley, Katherine told me you offered to accept the annulment.
Ashley: I did.
Tucker: Why would you do that?
Ashley: (Sighs)
Kay: I need you to address the board without me.
Neil: Mm. You expect me to get Chancellor Industries to go for this deal?
Kay: Well, since I am Tucker's mother and the current C.E.O. of McCall, they'll claim it's a conflict of interest. They trust your integrity and your instincts as a businessman.
Neil: (Sighs) Yeah, thank you for saying that, Katherine. This is not a good deal for Chancellor, asking them to pay twice the market value for Jabot?
Kay: Well, it's worth it to neutralize Tucker.
Neil: No, no, I-I understand that, but the Chancellor board will not approve this.
Kay: Well, then its imperative we find a way to change their minds.
Lauren: Kev, there is nothing wrong with you. You are a great guy.
Kevin: Wouldn't a great guy have women falling all over him?
Lauren: Do you know how many girls there are who have never been listened to or sympathized with or have been treated respectfully by a guy? And, Honey, all they have to do is look at you, and they're gonna melt. You just have to find that girl.
Kevin: There is a "But" in there. I can hear it coming.
Michael: Why would you think that everybody--
Kyle: Everyone was always mad at her, including my dad. She was murdered.
Michael: Not everybody felt that way about your mom. She was my friend, and I always remembered that, even when we disagreed.
Ronan: Okay. Lay it on me. Who done it?
Abby: Tucker McCall.
Ronan: Tucker McCall has an alibi. Your mother, in fact.
Abby: Okay, but can my mom be absolutely certain that Tucker didn't sneak out in the middle of the night and do the deed? I think not.
Ronan: What makes you suspect him?
Abby: It sounds crazy, but scratching. He has something itchy under that bandage on his hand.
Ronan: Okay, scratching? Do you have any other clues?
Abby: A bottle of calamine lotion in his apartment.
Ronan: The bottle of calamine lotion could be your mother's.
Abby: But my mother doesn't have poison sumac like you guys know that the killer probably does.
Ronan: Who told you that?
Abby: (Stammers) I read it in the paper or something. I don't know.
Ronan: Right. Okay, I don't see any motive for Tucker McCall to commit this crime.
Abby: Um, he was sleeping with Diane?
Ronan: Cheating on your mother?
Abby: (Scoffs) Yeah. And the night that Diane was killed, Diane had just told my mom how she'd been hitting it with Tucker. How's that for a motive?
Tucker: Why did you go to Katherine and offer to accept the annulment?
Ashley: (Sighs) I was trying to protect you and your company. Look, regardless of whatever is going on between the two of us, it just makes me crazy to think of Katherine trying to take away your company. It makes me nuts.
Tucker: Oh, come on, Beauty. Don't you know that company is not nearly as important to me as you are?
Ashley: You know, if--if I was so damn important to you, then why did you keep misleading me about Diane?
Tucker: I don't know. Maybe, uh, because I never had a family. I-I-I have operated this way all my life. I mean, its self-preservation. You--you shut your mouth, or you lie.
Ashley: I don't know. So now you're trying to tell me that suddenly you don't operate that way anymore?
Tucker: Not with you I don't. I love you. Now even if you can't forgive me now, I want you to tell me that I have got a chance to prove to you that I can be the man you deserve and that we can be a family.
Ashley: It takes more than a license and a ceremony to be a family.
Tucker: I love you. I know you love me. You're willing to let me go?
Kay: Neil, we've got to get this done now before, um, Tucker realizes I'm selling Jabot out from under him. So, uh, you get out there, and you wow those board members with the latest figures on our cactus pectin product. Oh, and remind them, uh, what we have going on in development, including, uh, the Black Satin fragrance collection. That's a guarantee to be a hit.
Neil: (Sighs)
Kay: What? What? What?
Neil: Katherine, in order to ace this, we can't try to sell 'em. We've gotta convince 'em that they've already won.
Paul: So what do you need?
Ronan: I'm on my way back to check on a lead, but we have a leak in the department.
Paul: How do you want to handle that?
Ronan: Oddly, I don't trust anyone except you. Can I put you on that part of the investigation?
Paul: Um, yeah. Let me, uh, wrap things up here, and, uh, I'll get right on it.
Nina: That was Ronan, wasn't it?
Paul: Yeah. Listen, um, I better get going. I'll catch up with Katherine later, okay?
Nina: Yeah. You know, it's Ronan's birthday today. How do you despise your own child?
Paul: You don't.
Nina: (Sighs)
Paul: No matter who they are or what they do, you love them, and that's okay.
Nina: I've missed you. You're my best friend, and I-I need you.
Paul: I miss you, too.
Nina: (Sighs) Oh.
Lauren: So maybe the next time a girl crosses your path, you shouldn't, you know, shouldn't be so available.
Kevin: Continue.
Lauren: Sometimes you have to let them come to you.
Kevin: So if I want a woman's attention, I should ignore her?
Lauren: Intrigue her.
Jack: I finally got permission. The police are gonna let us back into your mom's room.
Michael: Oh, that's great, huh, Kyle?
Jack: Yeah, it's a very short window, though, so we'd better get going. Thank you, Michael.
Michael: Uh, Jack? Quick question. I'd like to help out with the funeral arrangements.
Jack: Oh, that won't be necessary.
Michael: No, um, I want to. I want to do it for Diane and for Kyle, please.
Jack: Thank you. Thank you. That'd be great.
Tucker: Are you willing to let this go? 'Cause I'm not. I've never felt this way in my life before. You've changed my life. I know in my heart you're the one.
Ashley: (Sniffles) (Sighs) You know, I-I, uh... it would be so nice if I could forget everything that happened and just fall back into your arms.
Tucker: Do it.
Ashley: I'm scared.
Tucker: So am I.
Tucker: So am I.
(Knock on door)
Tucker: (Sighs) Forget it.
Ashley: No, you better get it.
Ashley: (Sighs)
Tucker: Detective Malloy.
Ronan: May I? Ashley.
Ashley: Hi. What's this about?
Ronan: I actually have a few more questions for Mr. McCall regarding the Diane Jenkins murder.
Kevin: There you go.
Woman: Thanks.
Kevin: Thanks.
Woman: So do you work here every day?
Kevin: Uh, actually, I-- I own the place.
Woman: Mm. Maybe we'll see each other again?
Kevin: Uh, well, I don't normally hang out with customers.
Woman: Not ever?
Kevin: Well, I work a lot. I got a lot of other stuff going on. Maybe I'll see you again. Maybe I won't.
Woman: Oh, I'll definitely be back.
Kevin: Maybe Lauren was right.
Michael: Yeah, I spoke to the funeral director, and I finalized the details for the service.
Jack: Thanks for doing this, Michael. It'll leave me free to spend more time with Kyle.
Michael: Oh, and I-- I told Lauren that you and Kyle are headed to Fenmore's.
Lauren: (Mouthing words)
Michael: Hold on.
Lauren: Jack? Hi, um, I told my day manager exactly what you're looking for. And so I had her pull some choices, and they will be ready for you.
Jack: Thanks. You both made this a lot easier.
Lauren: Of course. And you take care.
Lauren: Let me ask you-- what made you suddenly decide to plan the memorial?
Michael: Oh, I had a little talk with Kyle. (Chuckles) It would have ripped your heart out. No kid should think that his mother was hated by the whole world. So I'm gonna do this for my friend Diane and for her son who needs to know there were people in the world who cared about his mom.
Neil: (Clears throat) Katherine?
Kay: How'd it go?
Neil: (Sighs) The Chancellor board was very skeptical. That's a lot of money to pay for a cosmetics company. But... they approved the purchase.
Kay: (Laughs) Oh, wonderful!
Neil: Now it still has to be ratified, but we can file the paperwork and get it going.
Kay: (Sighs) Jabot will belong to Chancellor Industries once again. (Chuckles) Tucker be damned.
Ronan: Ashley, I think it'd be better if you stepped out for a while.
Ashley: Sure. See you in few minutes.
Ronan: Hmm. You didn't ask her to stay. Is that because you don't want her knowing about your affair with Diane Jenkins?
Tucker: My wife already knows about that.
Ronan: Really? Hmm. So when did the affair begin and end? Or do you need to check your records first?
Tucker: It was a one-night thing.
Ronan: And your wife found out about it the night Diane died? Coincidence?
Tucker: What else could it be?
Ronan: Why is your hand wrapped?
Tucker: (Clears throat) Carpal tunnel.
Ronan: Really? May I see it?
Tucker: You have a search warrant?
Ronan: You know, I had poison sumac once when I was a kid. It drove me nuts, the itching. It was like a little fire burning on my skin. And you just must be dying to scratch it.
Tucker: Since you don't have a search warrant, and no further reason to question me, you can get out.
Ronan: (Chuckles) Fair enough. (Snaps fingers) Calamine lotion-- it didn't help me at all. It's definitely not a good choice. I'm just sayin'. Maybe consult your doctor, get something a bit stronger.
Tucker: (Sighs)
Tucker: (Sighs) (Sighs) (Groans)
Paul: Yeah, it does.
Kay: Well, are you, uh, done moping?
Paul: (Chuckles)
Nina: Uh, no. And I will probably still mope.
Kay: (Chuckles)
Nina: Call me, okay?
Paul: I will. Actually, I'm here to see you. Um...
Kay: Do you have a lead on Tucker's child?
Paul: Well, yes, I do, but I'm going to need some, uh, some more funding to follow up on a few things. Is that gonna be a problem?
Kay: No, no, of course not. Call my accountant. He'll disperse the money immediately. Anything else?
Paul: Uh... no. I--not really. I-I guess I’m just a little surprised that you want to continue with this. I thought you would want me to turn all this information over to Tucker.
Kay: Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no. You bring everything to me, and only to me.
Mauro: Can I help you with something?
Man: I need to report a theft.
Mauro: Okay. From state fish and game?
Man: Yeah, we had an infrared camera out at Town Park. It, uh, holds some valuable data from the indigenous animal population.
Mauro: And it's been there since before the murder?
Man: Yes, that's why we went to collect it, but it was gone. Someone stole it.
Tucker: (Sighs) (Sighs) Will you stay away?
Ashley: I don't think so.
Ronan: We've dusted for prints. We've taken all the evidence that we need. Come on in.
Jack: Thanks.
Ronan: If the pillows meant anything to you or your mom, Kyle, you're more than welcome to take 'em with you.
Kyle: I've never seen those pillows before in my life.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Phyllis: It's a shakedown? Are you looking for a payout?
Deacon: I wanted to ask you out.
Kyle: And when the police were looking for your class ring, I hid it.
Reverend Fulton: I want to welcome you here to pay tribute to Diane's memory.
