Episode # 9686 ~ Sharon Remembers

(This is a special episode all about Sharon, so a lot of the dialogue is from flashbacks)

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: You don't look so good.

Sharon: (Sniffles) Yeah, feel even worse. I didn't know Noah was gonna be here. Nick, he's-- he's so angry with me.

Nick: Sharon, he loves you. He wants to be here.

Sharon: A-Amy-- is Amy gonna bring Faith?

Nick: I'm sorry. I know how much you wanted to see her.

Sharon: Nick, I-- I need to hold my baby.

Nick: Look, I just-- I didn't think I should bring her. I mean, with all the press and the craziness, I didn't know how she'd react.

Sharon: Nick, this could be the last time I get to see her before I go to prison.

Adam: Another wedding. How many of these am I gonna see?

Sharon: Adam... (Chuckles) Turn the camera off. What if this ends up on the internet or something?

Adam: Oh, don't worry. This is--this is for my very own personal use to remind me that I'm the luckiest man on earth.

Sharon: Really? You need to be reminded?

Adam: Honestly, when you're not with me, sometimes it doesn't seem like its even real.

Sharon: Well, come over here then. I'll show you real.

Adam: Okay, I'll turn the camera off.

Sharon: Do you promise?

Adam: Of course. Don't you trust me?

Sharon: With all my heart.

Adam: Nothing's the same without you.

Sharon: (Sighs) Where do I even begin? (Thinking) "Dear Sam..." (Thinking) "There’s so much I want to say to you, need to say. You must have questions. I owe you answers, Sam. At the very least, I owe you that. I want to be honest with you, tell you everything about who I am, how I got here. I can't do it in person, so I'm writing this letter. If you want me to go after you read it, I'll understand."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: But you're okay with the coat? I mean, you still like it?

Sharon: Of course.

Nick: How much?

Sharon: A lot.

Nick: A whole lot?

Sharon: Yeah, a whole lot.

Nick: Show me.

Sharon: (Thinking) "At that moment, I knew Nick was the one I wanted to be with. But then there was Matt. I had to break it off with him first. When I tried to do that, things went horribly wrong."

[Sharon remembering]

Matt: Sharon, come on. You know I love you.

Sharon: Oh, give me a break.

Matt: No, no, you give me a break.

Sharon: Stop it!

Matt: Come here!

Sharon: (Gasps) (Screams) What are you doing? (Grunts) Ow! You're hurting me, Matt! You're hurting me!

Matt: It doesn't have to be that way, Sharon. Come here.

Sharon: Aah! Matt, stop it! Get your hands off me! Get your hands off me! Stop it! No! (Grunts) No! (Thinking)

Sharon writing: "After I was raped, I thought my life was over. I didn't realize it was the beginning-- the beginning of Nick feeling he needed to rescue me." (Thinking) "It's something that would continue for years to come. When Matt told Nick I wasn't the innocent girl he believed I was, Nick jumped to my defense."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: (Grunts)

Sharon: (Screams)

Nick: (Grunts)

Matt: (Grunts) Get up, Man! Get up! Pick him up!

Sharon: Nick! Aah!

Amy: Oh, God!

Sharon: (Thinking) "I had to tell Nick the truth-- that Matt wasn't lying about my past."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: How did Matt know about this and I didn't?

Sharon: I don't know the whole story.

Nick: Well, tell me. Tell me, Sharon!

Sharon: All I know is that Matt went to Madison to talk to some people. He found out about Frank, and he went to see him.

Nick: So there was this-- this guy, Frank.

Sharon: Yeah.

Nick: Where's your baby?

Sharon: I gave it up for adoption. I never even saw it, and under the circumstances, that was the only thing I could do.

Nick: All these months. All these months, Sharon, you led me to believe you were a virgin. You told me our first time was gonna be so special. But you were lying to me. What a fool. What a fool I've been!

Sharon: Nicholas, please try and understand. Frank--he was older. He was real popular, and I was so naive and stupid. He told me that he loved me, and I believed him I thought he loved me. I'm sorry. I am so, so sorry. Say something.

Nick: What do you want me to say?

Sharon: I don't know. Say that you understand.

Sharon: (Thinking) "I thought it was over between us, but we worked things out. We got engaged. Then Nick found the man who raped me."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: You promised me that you wouldn't keep any more secrets from me ever again. Sharon.

Sharon: I... (Sighs) Nick, I can't tell you.

Nick: Then there is something to tell me. Look, Sharon, I love you so much. I just want to help you.

Sharon: No, you can't.

Nick: How do you know that? Give me a chance to help you. You have to talk to me, though. What happened? Tell me. Tell me what happened, Sharon, please, just talk--

Sharon: I was raped.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Nick was determined to make Matt pay for what he'd done to me. He wanted to hurt Matt."

[Sharon remembering]

(Engine revs) (Tires squeal)

Sharon: (Thinking) "Someone beat him to it."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: Oh, my God. Oh, my God. Oh, my God.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Nick was arrested for shooting Matt. It was awful, but he never once blamed me for what happened. But other people did."

[Sharon remembering]

Nikki: I have always known the truth about you-- a young woman in a relationship for what she can get out of it. Now that you have nothing to gain you just stand there silent.

Sharon: No, you have no idea--

Nikki: No, you listen to me. Whatever happens to my son, I hold you responsible. If it weren't for you, he wouldn't even know Matt Clark, and if it weren't for your lies, this surely would never have happened.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Nikki was wrong. I wasn't interested in Nick for his money. I loved him. But it was my fault he was in trouble. He went to confront Matt because of me, and he ended up going to prison. It wouldn't be the last time Nick came to my rescue." (Thinking) "Almost from the first day we met, Nick looked out for me. I'm not sure when or how it happened. I never asked him to. He never said he would. It was just understood. But when he got out of jail, he made it clear he was committed to me-- to taking care of me, loving me. He wanted us to be together."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: Sharon, w-- will you marry me? Will you be my wife?

Sharon: Yes. Yes, Nicholas. Yes. (Laughs)

Nick: (Laughs) Sharon, I join you in marriage to make you my wife for the length of our days, to love and to comfort you, in joy and in sorrow, to cherish and respect you. I give of myself, and together with you, in the sight of God, to bring love to the lives of those we touch. As a symbol of my promise, I give you this ring.

Sharon: Nicholas, I join you in marriage to make you my husband for the length of our days, to love and to comfort you in joy and in sorrow, to support and to care for you, to respect and to cherish you, to give of myself, and together with you, in the sight of God, to bring love to the lives of all those we touch.

Minister: Nicholas, you may kiss your bride.

(Piano plays Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" from "Midsummer Night's Dream")

Sharon: (Thinking) "It was storybook, a fairy tale. I thought it would always be that way. For a while, it was. Nick and I had a beautiful son Noah. I'll never forget the first time I held him. It was... a miracle."

[Sharon remembering]

Noah: (Cries)

Doctor: Here you are, Mrs. Newman.

Sharon: Oh.

Noah: (Fusses) (Cries)

Sharon: (Sighs) Noah. He's so beautiful. (Sighs)

Noah: (Cries)

Sharon: You're a miracle.

Noah: (Cries)

Sharon: You're a gift from God.

Noah: (Cries)

Sharon: (Thinking) "Soon, something even more miraculous happened. The baby I'd given birth to all those years before came back into my life-- my beautiful Cassíe. Nick grew to love her as if she were his own. She became Nick's daughter, a part of our family."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: Oh, my God. We had the initials "C.N." engraved on there. You know what they stand for?

Cassie: "Cassie Newman."

Sharon: You like it, Honey?

Cassie: I love it. It's-- it's the most wonderful present I-I ever got, except coming to live with you guys.

Sharon: (Thinking) "For a while there, we were living a fairy tale. But fairy tales have a way of turning grim." (Thinking) "For a while, Nick and I had it all. He was an amazing father, an even more amazing husband. Every day was special with Nick." (Thinking) "We had our ups and downs like most couples, but our love was so perfect, like one of those scenes in a snow globe-- beautiful, peaceful, happy. Then it slipped out of our hands and broke into a million pieces the second we got the phone call, that awful, horrible phone call. I knew... I knew in my heart, we would never be able to put the pieces back together."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: Our daughter was in a car accident.

Woman: What's her name?

Nick: Cassie Newman.

Sharon: Do you know where she is? Or can we see her? What's going on?

Woman: The doctors are with her.

Nick: How serious is it?

Woman: A-all I know is she was unconscious when she was brought in.

Cassie: (Weakly) You'll have another little girl someday.

Sharon: Cassie, Honey, we have our little girl.

Cassie: But you'll... you'll have another one. I know it. One day. (Sighs) (Monitor flat lining)

Sharon: (Thinking) "For the first time in our life, Nick couldn't fix things."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: What do you think I'm feeling?

Sharon: I don't know. And how would I know? You're like a stone.

Nick: Because I'm not a total wreck? Because I'm not spilling my guts all over the place?

Sharon: Nick, this is something that we are supposed to share, something we're supposed to get through together.

Nick: I can't do it right now, okay? I got too much goin' on inside me, and I wish to God that I could help you, but I just can't do it right.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Nick couldn't save me or himself. Instead... he abandoned me."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: Don't remember that. Have you worn it before?

Sharon: No. But somebody else has.

Nick: Who?

Sharon: Phyllis.

Nick: Phyllis?

Sharon: Come on, Nick. Don't be shy. I saw Phyllis buy this very outfit.

Nick: That's news to me.

Sharon: No, it isn't. She bought it for you.

Nick: Why would she do that?

Sharon: Tell me, Nick. Did she wear this for you the night you two had sex in this hotel room? Or maybe it was the night you were in the stables.

Sharon: (Thinking) "I had to find a way to make a life without Nick. We both moved on. He married Phyllis. I married Jack. But when something's meant to be, nothing can stop it. When Nick and I went to Paris, it was as if we'd never been apart." (Thinking) "The pain, the lies, all the hurt-- gone. We tried to fight being together. We couldn't. Nick and I were back together. He'd rescued me from the darkest place I'd ever been, and Cassie's prediction came true. We were going to have another baby-- a girl. But just like before, the happiness didn't last."

[Sharon remembering]

(Monitor beeping)

Nick: The baby-- did something happen?

Sharon: Faith... she didn't make it. Our little girl didn't make it, Nick.

Sharon: (Thinking) "That's when Adam came into my life." (Thinking) "Adam was dark, guarded, mysterious-- not so different from his father, the exact opposite of his brother Nick. I think that's what drew me to him."

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: I'm so sorry you lost your baby.

Sharon: Thank you. That's nice of you to say.

Adam: How are you?

Sharon: Um, hanging in.

Adam: Good.

Sharon: Yeah, it's weird, though. I haven't heard from the funeral home.

Adam: The funeral home?

Sharon: Um, yeah. You know, um, the ashes and...I'm sorry. I just have a hard time keeping my emotions under control, and--   

Sharon: (Thinking) "Before I fell in love with Adam, before I even really got to know him, I felt as if he understood me in a way Nick never had. He believed I could take care of myself. Adam didn't want to be my knight in shining armor. He wanted to be my friend, my lover, my partner. When we danced, he let me lead. He was amazing."

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: The name is Bond. James Bond.

Sharon: (Laughs)

Adam: Well, I know one thing for sure.

Sharon: What's that?

Adam: I'm thankful for meeting you.

Sharon: Let 'em look.

Both: With this ring, I thee wed.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Adam saw me as someone who was strong, confident, whole. He made me see myself that way, too. I stopped being that young girl who'd been raped, the victim. It was an incredible gift, the best gift anyone ever gave me. I gave him something, too. He said he was a better person when he was with me, that I made him want to be a better person. Maybe I did. I know before we were together, Adam did some terrible things."

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: It's true, all of it. I was trying to scare Ashley, and she lost her baby. It was an accident, but I covered it up. I knew that if Victor found out... I blackmailed Dr. Taylor into coming here and convincing Ashley that she was still pregnant. Everything was going okay until she went into hysterical labor. It was too soon. We didn't have a plan.

Sharon: So then when I went into labor down the hall that same night, how convenient for you. You used me.

Adam: Yes. Charles delivered your baby, and I took Faith. I took her, and I gave her to Ashley.

Sharon: Then you told Dr. Taylor to tell me that there'd been a terrible tragedy and that my baby had died?

Sharon: (Thinking) "It was complicated, yet somehow, Adam and I made sense."

Adam: Come with me.

Sharon: I can't.

Adam: You can. I know you can. I know because of that kiss. You came here for a reason. You're at a crossroads.

Sharon: Crossroads.

Adam: You have decisions to make, decisions that scare you. The answers are-- they're all around you. They're here. You just have to listen.

Sharon: To what?

Adam: I don't know. I don't know. Fate? The Gods? The angels? They're trying to tell you something. They're trying to tell us something. All we have to do, Sharon, is listen.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Nick never understood why I wanted to be with Adam I'm not sure I understood myself. All I know is we made each other better."

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: I was looking for something before I met you. I thought I wanted power and money and acceptance. It was you. And now that I've found you, I don't see the point in moving forward, going any further, unless it's with you. I know you feel it, too. I see it in your eyes. This bond we have can never be broken.

Sharon: (Thinking) "No one understood. Adam and I wanted to be with each other. The more we fought to be together, the more everyone tried to tear us apart. Finally, they did."

[Sharon remembering]

Ronan: You’re under arrest for the murder of Skye Lockhart Newman. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed...

Sharon: Adam, I'm gonna find Skye.

Ronan: To you before you answer any questions.

Sharon: If it's the last thing I do, I'm gonna find her.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Victor took Adam from me, but Nick, my protector, he took the most precious thing in the world from me."

[Sharon remembering]

Nick: It shouldn't be a surprise to you that I filed for full custody. I told you I was gonna do that.

Sharon: You call me an unfit mother, and you think I shouldn't be surprised?

Nick: You knew this was coming.

Sharon: I never thought that you would stoop this low.

Nick: Well, I could say the same about you, couldn't I? (Sighs) How do you think Faith is gonna look at you when someday she understands that you chose Adam over her?

Sharon: She is going to respect me and be proud of me for fighting for her and winning. And she'll despise you. That's right. She will, for trying to come between us.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Victor had Adam put in jail. Nick was trying to take my daughter away. Adam helped me find a strength inside myself I never knew existed. I was going to use that strength to help him. I had to clear his name so we could be together and I could get my daughter back. I had to prove Adam wasn't guilty of murdering Skye. I went to Hawaii."

[Sharon remembering]

Sharon: Try to get a foothold.

Skye: No, I can't hold on!

Sharon: Skye, I am not gonna let you die.

Skye: I wouldn't bet on it.

Sharon: (Breathing heavily) (Gasps) Aah! (Grunts) Skye!

Sharon: (Thinking) "It all went so wrong. I was trying to find Skye, not kill her. The police didn't believe me. Everyone in my family turned against me. I was found guilty of killing Skye. I was going to prison, possibly for the rest of my life. The only way Faith and Noah would ever see me was through bars. I couldn't stand the thought of it. Adam came up with a plan."

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: You didn't kill anybody, but we just need time to prove that.

Sharon: (Sighs) Oh, gosh. When Noah came to see me, he was so disappointed in me. What's he gonna think if I run?

Adam: I don't know what he's gonna think. But perhaps if you find what you need to find to prove yourself innocent, he will think that you are courageous, and Faith will, too.

Sharon: You make it sound so simple.

Adam: Well, I don't know if it is, Sharon, but it seems like it could be, because it's no longer in the jury's hands.

Sharon: (Thinking) "It was risky, complicated, but I was out of options. So I agreed to go along with it. Everything was going fine until..."

[Sharon remembering]

(Ignition beeping)

Woman: Out of the car.

Sharon: (Gasps)

Woman: Now.

Sharon: (Thinking) "I lost my car, my I.D., my money, everything. I was sure I was going back to jail, that I'd be given an even longer sentence. Then I heard the woman who stole my car was killed... burned beyond recognition. She was wearing my engagement ring. Everyone thought it was me. I knew Adam would be destroyed. I started walking. I kept thinking about all the people I loved-- Adam, my mom, my kids-- how much I'd hurt all of them. Then I saw your barn. When I got there, I laid down in the straw and covered myself with a blanket. As I drifted off, I thought... everyone thinks I'm dead. Maybe it would be better off for all of them if I was. I was worried about my mom, Nick, Noah, and Faith, how losing me would affect them. But they all had each other. Adam... he was alone. He said he was a better person when he was with me. I was worried what would become of him without me. I was afraid he'd give up on being the good person his mother and I believed in."

Nick: (Sighs) Sorry. I didn't, uh, see you come in.

Noah: I miss her, too.

Nick: (Sighs)

[Sharon remembering]

Adam: I sleep and I dream of you. I wake, and every thought has you in it. All I am now is this man who loves you. You... see something in me only one other person ever has. My mother believed I was capable of being a good person. She made me believe it. Then I moved here. Everything changed. I stopped.

Sharon: Believing?

Adam: Living. I didn't care about anyone or anything. Now I do. (Sighs) This is the least I can do for you.

Sharon: (Thinking) "Adam, Nicholas, my mom, my kids, I had to let them all move on. Spending the rest of my life in jail would have been harder for them than it would have been for me. I couldn't let them suffer like that. Now they can have good, happy lives, thanks to you, Sam. So can I. You've given me a second chance. I'll always be grateful to you for that. I had to tell you the truth."
