Episode # 9669 ~ Cane's Lost Letter Reveals a Shocking Truth
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Genevieve: Ethan, where are you?
Cane: I am where I'm supposed to be. Is there a problem?
Genevieve: If your father mentions an alternate pickup point, you must let me know immediately.
Cane: I-I thought you were certain he was gonna take the twins to the estate.
Genevieve: We have to anticipate everything, even a change in Colin's plans.
Cane: Yeah, well, if that happens, I'm grabbing my kids, and I'm getting out of there, okay?
Genevieve: Just play your part for a little while longer, and then we will end this. Ethan?
Cane: I have to go. He's coming.
Genevieve: Do your sister proud.
Genevieve: (Whispers) Justice.
Colin: We meet here.
Cane: Okay.
Colin: It's up on a private estate, the airstrip very obscure. We won't be observed. Just turn up, and I'll do the rest. Now can you find it or not?
Cane: Yeah, yeah, I can find it. I can find it.
Colin: Okay.
Cane: Okay.
(Cell phone rings)
Colin: (Sighs) Hi, Darling.
Jill: Uh, what time were we supposed to be meeting?
Colin: Are you at Gloworm already?
Jill: I've been here for quite a while, and, um, handsome men are ogling me.
Colin: (Sighs) I'm--I'm a little bit behind in my schedule right now.
Jill: Work?
Colin: Nothing but. But I'll be there soon.
Jill: Hurry. You'll be very glad you did.
Cane: That's cool, Dad. You're gonna have a date with your wife first, eh?
Colin: You know what I've always said about loose ends. Now you keep your mouth shut while I put this next bit into motion.
Cane: Okay, Dad.
Malcolm: Lily?
Lily: Hey! Oh, my gosh. So good to see you.
Malcolm: Hey, baby girl.
Lily: Hi.
Malcolm: Oh, how you doin'?
Lily: Um, I'm good. I'm--I'm--I'm doing better. You know, I had a good therapy session today.
Malcolm: Yeah?
Lily: And now you're here, so it's a good day.
Malcolm: (Laughs)
Lily: (Laughs)
Malcolm: Look at you. Oh. Hey, what's this? What you up to?
Lily: Oh, um, Colin took the twins to the zoo, and he sent me some pictures, so that was nice of him.
Malcolm: Oh, Man, now why didn't I think of that?
Lily: (Chuckles)
Malcolm: (Laughs)
Lily: No, it's fine. You know, before, seeing the twins experience things without me, it just... really hurt me a lot.
Malcolm: And now?
Lily: Well, my-- my therapist gave me this task for today. I'm supposed to look at these pictures and allow myself to see Cane in the twins.
Malcolm: Mm-hmm.
Lily: And I do see Cane, you know? I-I see him in Charlie's eyes and the way that Matty tilts her head.
Malcolm: Well, h-how does, um, making you think of him help you get better?
Lily: Well, remembering Cane... I mean, that-- that's not what caused my depression, you know? What matters most is... is the way that I choose to remember him, so seeing him in the twins, you know, that's good. That's good.
Malcolm: Yeah.
Neil: "Her subjects were saved, and the princess reigned happily ever after." The end, for real. You like that, right? Uh-huh, your mother-- I'm tellin' you two, your mother really-- aw, look, your sister's sleeping. Yes, your mom, she loved hearing that story when she was a little girl. What, you--Charlie, you didn't like that story? What--what--what-- what's wrong with the story? Oh, you want-- I bet you wanted to hear the one about the magical turtle, right? Well, you're gonna have to wait until next time. (Laughs in a silly manner)
Daniel: I might like to hear the story about the magical turtle.
Neil: Hey.
Daniel: Hey.
Neil: Daniel, hey. Uh, ye--uh, I've been, um, I've been meaning to get back to you.
Daniel: Eh, it's okay.
Neil: So, um, I know we were talking about you visiting Lily at the, uh, you know--
(Cell phone rings)
Neil: Uh... hey, why--why don't you have a seat? Give me one second, would you? Hello?
Colin: Uh, Neil, it's Colin.
Neil: Hey, Colin, um, can I call you right back?
Colin: Yeah, look, this'll just take a minute. Um, uh, Jill's been having a tough time of it lately.
Neil: Yeah? What's the, uh, what's the matter?
Colin: You know, sending her grandson off to the Middle East and all.
Neil: R-right, so... how can I help?
Colin: Well, when we saw, um, Matilda and Charlie the-- the other day, that-- well, that really lifted her spirits, and I was wondering whether it might be possible for us to have the twins... (Sighs) For one night? You know, her and me?
Neil: Um, I don't know.
Colin: (Clears throat) Look, I probably shouldn't even mention this, but, uh, Lily felt that, uh, the--the other day that, you know, you might be spreading yourself a little thin. I mean, lookin' after everybody and all.
Neil: Um, uh, y-yeah, yeah, yeah, sure. Why not? Um, you know, I'm about to have a bite to eat at Crimson Lights. And I've got Charlie and Matty with me.
Colin: Good. Look, I've got a few things to take care of. I will meet you at Crimson Lights.
Neil: Sure thing. (Makes silly sounds)
Daniel: Did Colin just volunteer to babysit?
Neil: (Sighs) Yeah. Yeah, since Cane died, he and Jill have really been there for Lily, you know? Helping out with the kids whenever they can.
Cane: Wow, Dad, you got the guy to hand over the kids just like that, eh?
Colin: Haven't you heard? I'm an exceedingly nice guy.
Cane: Yeah, well, you've got 'em all fooled. How'd you do it?
Colin: Patience. It does pay off. This time tomorrow... (Sighs) I'll be back in Australia with those kids in a place where they should have always been raised.
Cane: Uh-huh.
Colin: Lastly, do not be late.
Cane: I won't be late, Dad. I won't be late, 'cause I want to get back to my real life, 'cause I'm kind of sick and tired of lurking around here like a hermit, you know? So I'm not gonna be on time. I'm gonna be early.
Colin: (Stammers) On time. (Sighs) Don't be creative. And this will work.
Cane: 'Cause I made it work! Sorry, sorry, sorry.
Colin: Hey, calm down.
Cane: I know. I know. All right, see, but I'm the one who put the kids in your hands, you know? So I just don't want you to-- don't--don't talk to me like I'm an idiot.
Colin: Are you an idiot?
Cane: No, no, I'm not an idiot.
Colin: We put months of work into this.
Cane: All right.
Colin: And--and you're gonna throw a fit at the eleventh hour?
Cane: Sorry.
Colin: Do you think I would like that? Do you think I'm gonna reward that? Well, do you?
Cane: Sorry. I'm sorry.
Colin: I can cut you out, or you can politely ask, what would I like?
Cane: What would you like, Dad?
Colin: Right. (Sighs) You show up at the appointed hour. You lay low. Don't get there any sooner or any later, huh? In the meantime, I've gotta look after my wife.
Cane: (Sighs heavily)
Cane: (Sighs)
Neil: Hey, listen, um, I meant to call you back and let you know that it was okay to go and visit Lily. I-I got really swamped, you know?
Daniel: Yeah, me, too. (Clears throat)
Neil: So I heard a little, uh, a little about your custody thing, right?
Daniel: Neil?
Neil: What?
Daniel: I am sorry I didn't come to you and tell you what was goin' on with Lily.
Neil: That she's been having visions, seeing Cane?
Daniel: Look, I thought I was being her friend, you know? Keeping secrets, but...
Neil: She's been shutting everybody out, Daniel.
Daniel: Thinking about her having those hallucinations and how scared she must have been-- I should have come to you. I realize I should have come to you. You probably want to hit me. I mean, I'd want to hit me. I just...
Neil: Mm. Well, first of all, I kind of like you, Daniel. Second of all, besides her therapist, you, Devon, and I are the only ones who really know the real reason why she checked herself into a psychiatric hospital.
Daniel: You mean that Malcolm and Sofia--
Neil: Think that she's being treated for depression.
Daniel: Wow.
Neil: Yeah. You know, I understand why you kept quiet. I'm doing the same. I'm just taking my cues from Lily on who she wants to tell and what-- what she wants them to know.
Daniel: Well, I guess it's a good thing that we can keep secrets then, huh?
Neil: Yeah, right?
Sofia: What secrets, huh?
Daniel: Hey, Sofia, you look fantastic today. Look at you--blue.
Sofia: Oh. (Laughs)
Daniel: (Laughs)
Sofia: I-I don't mean to butt in, but I hope at least part of this conversation is about you goin' to visit Lily. She mentioned you when I saw her this morning.
Daniel: Okay, you know what? I'm gonna head over there. Um, what time are visiting hours over?
Sofia: Just a few more hours. Um, Malcolm is there now. I'm sure she'd be happy to see you.
Daniel: Mm.
Neil: Um, do me a favor and tell her that, uh, the dynamic duo and "Super Grandpa" said hi.
Daniel: All right, yeah, I could do that.
Neil: Yeah.
Sofia: (Laughs) Super Grandpa, huh?
Neil: Uh-huh. So... you visited Lily this morning, huh?
Sofia: Uh, yes. Why?
Neil: Instead of going with Malcolm this evening?
Sofia: Well, I figured he and Lily needed some time alone.
Neil: That's funny. You used to be better at hiding things from me.
Sofia: (Sighs)
Neil: So... you want to tell me what's going on?
Sofia: It's simple. I have plenty of time to visit Lily now because... I have nothing else to do and nowhere else to be.
Lily: (Chuckles) Oh, my.
Malcolm: (Laughs)
Lily: When was this taken?
Malcolm: Breakfast... (Chuckles) This morning. (Laughs)
Lily: Oh, they have more applesauce in their hair than they do in their bowl--cute.
Malcolm: I'll do a print for you.
Lily: Okay, thank you.
Malcolm: Yeah, you got it.
Lily: So how is Sofia's pregnancy?
Malcolm: Right on schedule. Right on schedule.
Lily: Are you gonna find out if it's a boy or a girl?
Malcolm: Well, that's up to Sofia, you know? It doesn't matter to me.
Lily: Oh, come on. You know you want a boy. Don't lie. (Laughs)
Malcolm: Well, you know, if this was a few years back, um, probably the answer would have been yes. But, you know, after, uh, Charlie and Matilda were born, you know, with them being premature...
Lily: Yeah, I know. That was really scary.
Malcolm: (Sighs) You know, you, um, find out all that stuff that people say about just havin' a healthy baby is real.
Lily: Yeah. It definitely is a blessing.
Malcolm: Maybe we shouldn't be talking about this.
Lily: No, it's fine. I mean, it's like, yeah, of course I miss them, you know?
Malcolm: (Sighs)
Lily: But that's why I'm here-- so that I can get better for them.
Malcolm: Don't you worry about 'em. I mean, the twins are fine. Between Sofia, me, Neil, Devon, Roxie, Colin, and Jill, they're well taken care of.
Lily: Do you ever talk to them about me?
Malcolm: With every hug, every kiss, every spoonful of food, they're reminded how much their mama loves them, how much she can't wait to see them again.
Lily: (Sighs) You guys are all so good to me.
Malcolm: And if there's anything you need, whatever it is, don't hesitate to speak on it, okay?
Lily: Actually, there, um, there is something that you can do for me.
Jill: Sweetie?
Colin: Hmm?
Jill: Sweetie.
Colin: Mm.
Jill: As much as I do love being in your arms, whoa.
Colin: I just love the smell of this perfume.
Jill: (Sighs) Well, I'm glad you do. I'm also very glad that we finally get an evening out together alone.
Colin: Yeah, yes. Long overdue.
Jill: We'll just have to make it last all evening long.
Colin: I just... I love the sound of that. But unfortunately, we can't even have dinner together. Jill, I've gotta leave town.
Sofia: I'm taking a leave of absence.
Neil: Something wrong with the baby? Did the doctor tell you to take a leave of absence?
Sofia: No, the baby's fine, and I'm fine. But Katherine Chancellor is a tyrant.
Neil: Katherine suspended you, didn't she?
Sofia: (Scoffs) She came this close to flat-out firing me.
Neil: Ouch. What'd you do?
Sofia: Look, I didn't say anything to Katherine that I wouldn't have said to Tucker. I didn't think I would have to coddle her.
Neil: Well, I'm sure she doesn't expect you to coddle her.
Sofia: Well, seein' Tucker in the hospital so sick and helpless... (Sighs) He is counting on me, Neil.
Neil: He's counting on all of us.
Sofia: Well, I'm in there trying to help him, looking after his business, and Katherine claims she's doing the same thing, too, but she's tearing everything apart. How am I supposed to work for Tucker when she's ruining everything?
Neil: All right, take a breath.
Sofia: (Inhales deeply)
Neil: Nice. Breathe...
Sofia: (Exhales slowly)
Neil: Good, okay. Now I knew that you had been having problems with Katherine. Things have been tense. But I didn't realize they'd boiled over.
Sofia: Because she doesn't listen to me.
Neil: Well, are you listening to her?
Sofia: I always listen before I disagree.
Neil: Sofia, maybe, um, maybe this leave of absence is--is kind of a good thing. What do you think?
Sofia: A good thing? Good thing? Everything Tucker's worked so hard for is being undone? That the companies he's worked so hard for are being bought and sold without any thought?
Neil: All right, Sofia, I care less about McCall, Unlimited than I do about you getting stressed in your condition.
Sofia: Look, I wouldn't be so bothered if Katherine wasn't such a... (Sighs) So hardheaded.
Neil: (Sighs) Okay. All right. Work with me on this, all right? I have an idea. What if-- what if I talk to Katherine on your behalf?
Sofia: I do not need you to fight my battles, Neil.
Neil: O-kay. So, Mama, you hungry? Want something to eat? Got half a sandwich here, some chips, huh? What?
Sofia: Okay, it's because I'm hungry. Okay, look, I'm sorry. Look, I know you're just tryin' to be helpful, and I'm over here bein' a brat.
Neil: Well, acceptance is the first step.
Sofia: (Chuckles) I can't even blame this on hormones. I'm just bein' difficult. (Laughs) God.
Neil: No, Sofia, you-- you know what you're doin', is you're lookin' out for your boss who also happens to be your friend, right? And what's the best way to do that? Hmm? Sitting at home? Or working with Katherine?
Sofia: Neil, I doubt even you can change her mind. She was so angry at me.
Neil: Been there.
Sofia: Am I really that bad?
Neil: Oh, uh, well, truthfully, you're really-- you're really that tough and that driven. And Katherine, God bless her, pragmatic businesswoman that she is, she can grasp that we need you now more than ever in Tucker's absence.
Sofia: Okay. I would appreciate your help as a mediator.
Neil: Me? Little old me?
Sofia: Yeah. Yes, Sir.
Neil: Aha. I'm glad you made that choice, but first, I'm gonna need you to agree to something.
Sofia: Ooh, slippery. Setting conditions after I've already caved.
Neil: If you have an opinion, offer it. If Katherine vetoes your suggestions, you're gonna have to deal with it and accept it.
Sofia: Oh, so work on Tucker's behalf under Katherine's parameters?
Neil: Ding, ding, ding, ding. You just won what's behind door number--
Sofia: (Chuckles)
Neil: I like that. You think you can live with that?
Sofia: Uh, yes. I think I can keep the, uh, bigger picture in mind.
Neil: Good. Deal? Be careful, Sofia. You're only gonna get one second chance.
Jill: You're leaving tonight?
Colin: It can't wait.
Jill: (Scoffs) Why is this the first I'm hearing of this?
Colin: A situation has come up. Now it's-- I originally thought that I could deal with this by remote control. Turns out I can't. It now needs my personal intervention, and that's gotta be immediately.
Jill: Where you going?
Colin: San Francisco.
Jill: Good, I can join you there. It's always better to mix pleasure with business anyway.
Colin: (Sighs) look, babe, I'm gonna have my hands full around the clock here.
Jill: Honey, you have to eat. You have to sleep. You have to take coffee breaks. You have to... mm. Take kissing breaks.
Colin: Oh, don't make this any harder than it already is.
Jill: (Sighs) Okay. Okay. I guess I'll just have to sit here and count the hours till you come back to me.
Colin: You know, sometimes, I-I-I think we've been married for years, not months.
Jill: (Laughs) That's really great. You know, a girl could take that a couple of different ways.
Colin: No, no, wait, wait. No, no, no, no, no, no. No, back up. Back up. I'll--I'll--I'll rephrase that. (Sighs) You--you opened your heart to me and you asked for nothing more than my love. You--you have honored me. You've accepted me. You've--you've doggedly gone up against your family and your friends for-- for us to--to get married. I mean, there's words-- (Stammers)
Jill: I'm yours, Colin... forever.
Genevieve: My sweet, sweet girl.
Woman: Need anything, Mrs. Ashby?
Lily: Um, yeah, actually, Dr. Mason had to reschedule our session for tomorrow. So did she set up a new time with the staff or anything?
Woman: Uh, I can check and get back to you.
Lily: Okay, thank you.
Woman: Yeah.
Cane: (Sighs)
Sofia: Hey, Sweetheart.
Malcolm: Hey, Baby.
Sofia: Mm. Good news. Neil is going to broker a truce between Katherine and me.
Malcolm: Mm. How do you plan to manage that?
Neil: Very carefully. You know, it's not an altogether unselfish move. More help from your lovely means less work for Neil.
Malcolm: Mm. (Chuckles)
Neil: So how was your visit with Lily?
Malcolm: It was good, Man. It was good. You know, she, uh, she seems more like her old self.
Neil: Yeah, she sounded stronger on the phone this morning, too.
Sofia: She seems like she's making a lot of progress.
Malcolm: Yeah, yeah, she is, and she asked for some-- some things from home. She had a small request.
Sofia: Oh, like to make her room feel more personal?
Malcolm: Yeah, you know? Some stuff to help her pass the time.
Sofia: That's good.
Neil: Mm-hmm.
Sofia: Maybe we should get the stuff now before she goes to bed.
Malcolm: Good idea. Ready to leave, Neil?
Neil: Hmm? Uh, I'll be by later. Colin's coming to pick up the kids. He and Jill are gonna be taking 'em for the night.
Colin: I do hate this, but I've gotta leave.
Jill: Be safe, my darling. Take care of what's mine.
Colin: I'll do that.
Jill: What'd you forget?
Colin: (Sighs)
Jill: Wow! That was some kiss.
Colin: I love you.
Jill: I love you, too. See you soon?
Colin: Good-bye.
Genevieve: That's good.
Genevieve: (Sighs)
Genevieve: Ethan, where are you? You should have been back by now.
[Lily remembering]
Cane: Are you ready, Mommy? I would like you to meet your children.
Lily: Oh, my gosh.
Cane: Huh?
Lily: Oh, my...
Cane: Aren't they beautiful?
Woman: Uh, Mrs. Ashby's room is over here. You have a visitor.
Daniel: Hey.
Woman: And, uh, your appointment time is tomorrow morning at 9:00.
Daniel: Thank you.
Lily: Oh, my gosh. Not now. Why is this happening now?
Daniel: Oh, hey, you know what? I didn't mean to upset you. I-I-I probably should have called and checked in with you and seen if it was okay first. I'll just go.
Lily: No, no, no, no. (Stammers) It's not even you. It's Cane. I just saw Cane here. (Sighs)
Sofia: Uh, well, that's it for the books. Look, while I get the clothes and shoes that Lily wanted, could you get her a pillow and a comforter, please?
Malcolm: Yes, I can, but what are you doin'? You know that I'm in charge of all the heavy lifting around here, pregnant lady.
Sofia: (Laughs) Thanks, Baby.
Malcolm: Mm.
Sofia: Mm. (Sighs)
Lily: It's, like, I don't know. I-I just-- I thought I was improving, you know? I'm--I'm doing everything I'm supposed to. I-I'm going to private therapy. I'm going to group therapy. I'm meditating. I'm writing in a journal. And I've been feeling better. I haven't seen Cane once since I've been here, and then all of sudden, I see him today.
Daniel: Okay, um, what were you doing just before you saw him?
Lily: I don't know. I... (Sighs) I was looking at pictures of the twins, and I-I was thinking about the day they were born.
Daniel: Lily, that's probably one of the strongest memories that the two of you shared.
Lily: So what? You're saying that--that me thinking about that made him appear? That doesn't make any sense.
Daniel: (Sighs) Okay, was this the first time that you were concentrating on Cane's memory today?
Lily: No, Da-- I think about him all the time. But the visions had stopped. And I'm--I'm just-- I'm mad, you know? It's like, I came here to get well for the twins, and it's not even working.
Daniel: Okay, okay, okay.
(Door opens)
Cane: I, uh, see you've set the scene.
Genevieve: Where have you been?
Cane: I went to see Lily.
Genevieve: Why did you do that?
Cane: Don't worry, Mom. She didn't see me.
Genevieve: You should never have risked it. You could have ruined everything.
Cane: (Sighs)
Colin: (Sighs) I really appreciate you letting us have the kids tonight.
Neil: Well, how could I say no when it'll mean so much to Jill? Okay, uh, Colin, there's some diapers in the bag right there, uh, food, some toys, a change of clothes, and... knowing Jill, though, she's probably already stocked up on necessities.
Colin: Charlie and Matilda are gonna have everything they ever wanted. You know, I think we should be on our way.
Neil: Yeah? Okay? Let me, uh, let me just say good-bye. Well, little man, okay, so since your sleepyhead sister Matilda is in dreamland, as usual, I'm gonna say good-bye to you, all right? I want you to take good care of Colin and Jill. Hey, I'm right over here. What you doin'? And here's some kisses for you to dream on tonight, all right, little Charlie? Mwah! One from your mommy. And... mwah! One from me. I love you. Take care. I'll see you tomorrow. Wave bye-bye. Bye. I'll see you later. I love you. I love you so much. Bye, Baby.
Jill: Hmm, he's not leaving. He's planning to surprise me with an evening with the kids.
Daniel: (Sighs) All the work that you have been doing is not for nothing.
Lily: Were you listening to me? I told you I just saw Cane.
Daniel: You saw Cane once, once since you've been here, and that is--that is progress.
Lily: I know.
Daniel: You're not gonna get better overnight.
Lily: (Sighs) Daniel, listen. It doesn't make what happened go away, either.
Daniel: Did Cane talk to you? Did he send you a text? Did he, uh, draw you a little heart?
Lily: No.
Daniel: So a hundred steps forward and one teensy-tiny, little step back.
Lily: I know, but I don't want to delude myself, either.
Daniel: Well, you know, if you want to create an alternate reality, then this is the perfect place to do it, because I don't know if anyone's told you or not, or if you've realized it or not, but, um, we happen to be in a mental institution.
Lily: (Chuckles) Yes, I forgot about that. That's true.
Daniel: It is true. But I gotta tell you, I mean, as far as bonkers bunkers go, this place is... (Exhales quickly) Chichi. Mm.
Lily: (Laughs) Well, nothing but the best for me and my mental instability.
Daniel: No, you know what? You're not unstable. You're grieving for your husband, and now you're c-- (Clears throat) Well, now you're concentrating on getting better.
Lily: I know what you were gonna say.
Daniel: No. No, I wasn't gonna say anything.
Lily: Yes, yes, you were gonna say that I'm committed to getting better. You were gonna say that, weren't you? Yes, you were.
Daniel: Maybe I, you know, I-I thought it. I didn't say it. I didn't say it.
Lily: You suck. (Laughs)
Daniel: I didn't say it.
Lily: (Laughs)
Daniel: There you go.
Lily: Thank you for making me laugh.
Daniel: Well, that's what we do. Now are you ready to feel superiorly sane?
Lily: Oh, my gosh, yes. Please, help me.
Daniel: Well, then let me tell you about the madness that is my life.
Cane: I needed to know if she was all right, if she's found a way to cope with what I've put her through.
Genevieve: And how is she?
Cane: She's good. But when she finds out what I've done, when she finds out what I'm doing...
Genevieve: Have faith, Ethan. We are on the side of the angels. Your father deserves every bit of the misery that he has coming to him, and we're gonna deliver it tonight. And then... Lily gets to go home and be reunited with her children. And you, too.
Cane: I hope so. I hope you're right.
Neil: Hey.
Malcolm: What's-- what's up, bro?
Neil: Hey, where's Sofia?
Malcolm: She's, uh, in Lily's bedroom.
Neil: Oh.
Malcolm: You, uh, you still planning on crashing here tonight?
Neil: Well, since the kids are being spoiled rotten by Jill and Colin tonight, I figured I'd grab my laptop and head home. Uh, you need a hand with packing anything, or what?
Malcolm: Uh, well, yeah. There's still a few things that we can't find on the list.
Neil: List? Wh-where's-- where's the list?
Malcolm: Uh, right over there by that box of books.
Neil: All right. No. (Sighs) Man, you must be blind, 'cause the list sure ain't-- ain't here.
Sofia: (Sighs) Oh, hey, Neil. What are you doin' back there? Uh, Baby, we should pick up some dinner for Lily.
Malcolm: Yeah, we should.
Neil: (Grunts) All right.
Malcolm: It was right over there on the desk. Did you--
Neil: Yeah, I'm gonna check. Whoa. Yeah. Look at this. (Sighs) This is, uh, the list, and a-a note addressed to Lily. It's kinda dusty. I guess it's been back there a long time.
Daniel: What do you think about... me giving Lucy to Billy and Victoria? Good idea?
Lily: Actually, I think it's a great idea.
Daniel: Never talkin' to my mom again? Good idea?
Lily: (Sighs) That, my friend, I would think about just a little bit more.
Daniel: Is this, um, is it weird for you when I talk about giving Lucy away?
Lily: No. No, it's not like you left her on a doorstep somewhere.
Daniel: I know. I know I didn't leave her on a doorstep, but... you don't think it's, like, selfish or--or wrong of me to want to do that? Here you are, and all you want to do is get better so you can get back to your kids and your family.
Lily: No, Daniel, it's not about that. Listen, what matters is that we both just want what's best for our kids, you know? You want Lucy to be with-- with people who love her. And me? I just... you know, I just... I want to get my head on straight so that I can just get back to being a mom.
Daniel: I think that sounds like a good goal.
Lily: Yeah, I mean, whether I see Cane again or not, or if I have any other setbacks, I'm not giving up. You know, the twins' birthday is coming up, and... I am determined... (Sighs) To be home for that.
Neil: It's from Cane.
Sofia: When did he write it?
Neil: Uh, it's not dated. Listen to this. "Dear Lily, I wanted to tell you all this in person, but you're not here. Last night when you asked if there were any more secrets, I couldn't bring myself to answer you."
Malcolm: He must be talkin' about the night before he died.
Neil: Um, "I realize now I owe this to you. I need to tell you my very last secret, the entire truth about myself and my father."
Genevieve: Your father's arrived.
Cane: Are the babies with him? Are--are they okay?
Genevieve: They're fine. They're fine. Just get out there. Make sure he's not suspicious.
Cane: It ends tonight.
