Episode # 9662 ~ Nick and Diane Make Love
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Diane: I don't realize you were a scotch man... especially at this hour. Maybe something's bugging you.
Nick: Could I have another one of these, please? Thank you.
Diane: Really? So that's how this is gonna be for, like...
Nick: (Sighs)
Diane: The next three hours or so?
Nick: (Chuckles) What did you expect?
Diane: We ended up on the same flight. It's not like I was stalking you.
Nick: Oh, 'cause you'd never do something like that?
Diane: Okay, maybe I did a little research into your travel plans. I'd think you'd be flattered.
Nick: There is nothing about you that I find flattering.
Diane: This is gonna be a fun flight.
Sharon: (Sighs)
Sharon: (Whispers) Adam.
(Knock on door)
Lily: Come in. (Sighs)
Neil: Lily.
Lily: Hi.
Neil: Hi, Honey.
Lily: Thank you for coming.
Neil: Oh, Honey.
Lily: (Sighs)
Neil: You know, they wouldn't let me in last night. It was after visiting hours when you called.
Lily: Yeah, I know. I just--I didn't want you to--to worry about where I was. How are Charlie and Matty?
Neil: Oh, Charlie and Matty are just doin' just fine.
Lily: (Sighs)
Neil: Um, they're with Malcolm and Sofia at the park right now.
Lily: (Sniffles) Good. (Chuckles) It's a perfect day for it. They love the swings.
Neil: Yeah. Well, the good news is, you'll be able to take them there yourself soon, all right?
Lily: I know. I can't wait.
Neil: So Dr. Mason didn't say much about how you're doing.
Lily: Um, I'm actually doing better now that I'm here.
Neil: I never should have left you alone at your house.
Lily: No, Dad, it wouldn't have mattered. Trust me.
Neil: Oh, Sweetheart, no, I-I-I could have helped you.
Lily: No. No, I had to do this. You know, I had to do something to stop what was happening to me.
Colin: Lily's checked herself into a sanitarium.
Caleb: That's good. She's one step closer to a mental breakdown, which means you're one step closer to getting your grandchildren.
Colin: Except now they're living with Neil, and it's not gonna be so easy to get 'em away from him. And you don't have access to Lily, and you--
(Footsteps approach)
Colin: (Sighs) Uh, we'll talk later. Bye.
Jill: (Sighs) I'm sorry, Darling. I didn't mean to interrupt.
Colin: You didn't.
Jill: I must really be taking you away from your business.
Colin: Nothing important. Did you call the hospital?
Jill: Yes, I did. I found out visiting hours. Look, if you have something to take care of, I can go on my own.
Colin: Lily's my priority here, which is why I want to talk to you about the twins.
Woman: Your father?
Caleb: Yes. Lily's checked herself into a mental institution. Charlie and Matty are with Neil. This wasn't part of the plan.
Woman: Plans change. You should know that better than anyone.
Caleb: I will not let things end up the way they did last time.
Woman: There's more at stake here than what you want.
Caleb: Don't you tell me what's at stake.
Woman: I'm in charge here. Don't forget it.
Jill: It's just so hard to watch Lily hurting and not be able to help her. I'd give anything to erase what happened on those church steps.
Colin: I'd give anything to be able to make that happen. (Sighs) Well, because of Lily and those kids.
Jill: God, I love you.
Colin: (Chuckles) I love you.
Jill: I just wish...
Colin: What?
Jill: I just keep thinking about everything that she lost, Colin.
Colin: Oh, we can't take away the pain, but we might be able to help.
Jill: How?
Colin: Let's offer to look after the kids. I mean, that gives Neil a chance to spend more time with her, and it gives you a chance...
Jill: (Sighs)
Colin: To spend more time with the twins.
Jill: It never ceases to amaze me-- the only connection you have to those babies is through me. Wow, they are so lucky to have you in their lives.
[Genevieve remembering]
Colin: Hopefully, one day, they'll feel the same way.
Woman: I'd love to fill this house with orchids.
Colin: Go ahead. This is yours to do with as you please.
Woman: I still can't believe it--that this is all happening.
Colin: No regrets about what you left behind?
Woman: Why would I?
Colin: Well, school and the boys, and, you know--
Woman: And none of it means anything. You've shown me things, given me a life that I could only imagine.
Colin: Get used to it, my love. Whatever you want is yours.
Woman: Just like that?
Colin: I'll see to it that you never have to lift as much as a finger.
(Gunshot)
Woman: Samantha? Oh, my-- oh, Samantha!
Cane: You bastard.
Woman: Samantha, no! No! Don't! No! Let me go to her!
Colin: No.
Woman: No! Samantha! Samantha, no!
Cane: Samantha!
Woman: Let me go! (Sobs) Oh! (Sobs)
Nick: Another, please. (Sighs)
Diane: Is sitting next to me really that unbearable?
Nick: (Sighs) Not everything's about you.
Diane: Including this James Dean number you're doin'?
Nick: Look, I just came from seeing the spot where a woman I once loved was killed.
Diane: You know, it's-- it's funny, something about that. Here you just flew across the country to-- to prove that Sharon didn't commit suicide, to clear her good name, and yet you can't seem to get past my little transgressions.
Nick: That's what you call marrying my dad? A transgression?
Diane: You weren't willing to make a commitment to me. He was.
Nick: Oh, and that lasted. Ooh, yeah. It just took him a little longer to wise up, I guess. But he did, and so did my brother, and everyone knows you tried to tap the Tucker A.T.M. I'm sure you hit on Jack. Who's left, Diane? Maybe one of Kyle's teachers?
Diane: You're an ass.
Nick: Yes, I am.
Diane: You can't deny there was a time you enjoyed spending time with me. We talked, and we laughed, and we confided in each other. You didn't judge me. You liked me. You liked the person I was. That side of me still exists, nick.
Nick: There are so many sides to you, I don't know which one's real.
Bob: Adam, I got your message you'd be here. Nick left for the airport before I finished my preliminary investigation, and I thought you would, uh, want to know what I have so far.
Adam: Absolutely. Uh, what do you got for me?
Bob: You and your brother were right. There is no evidence that your fiancée purposely drove her car into that ravine.
Adam: (Sighs) I knew it. I knew it. So--so what, uh, what caused the--the loss of control with the car?
Bob: Looks like she hydroplaned on some water that was on the road. They were workin' on a broken water main that flooded Route 40 on April 15th. We talked to several other motorists who encountered pools of water on that same stretch of highway.
Adam: Okay, so it wasn't-- it wasn't a suicide. It was an accident, just like we thought.
Bob: I know she was badly burned. (Sighs)
Adam: Beyond recognition.
Bob: If it's any consolation, she most likely was killed on impact, didn't suffer in the fire.
Adam: Um, do you have enough, um, do you have enough information to challenge the coroner's report?
Man: Once I finish my findings, you shouldn't have any trouble making this case in court.
Adam: (Sighs) You have, uh, you have no idea how much this... moving on from Sharon's death, it's been impossible. This... talk of suicide... (Sighs) And moving on with my life, it's been im-impossible knowing they trashed Sharon's legacy, but I... but I can now.
Lily: I just... I can't get Cane out of my head. You know, I-I-I keep thinking about him.
Neil: It's been going on for a while, hasn't it?
Lily: Dad, you don't understand. He won't leave me alone, you know? And I-I can't focus on the things that-- that I need to.
Neil: Because you're so distracted?
Lily: If I didn't do this, I would not feel safe being around the twins. I just wouldn't.
Neil: Honey, I really don't believe that you'd do anything to hurt them.
Lily: Yeah, of course not intentionally, but... I'm telling you, Dad, please. Something is wrong with me.
Neil: Lily, nothing's wrong with you. You're grieving.
Lily: No. No, no, no, no. It's--it's more than that, trust me.
Neil: No, no. You lost your husband, right? You saw him murdered right in front of you. That kind of loss is bound to have a huge impact on you.
Lily: No, Dad, listen, I wish that I felt loss. I wish I did.
Neil: What are you talkin' about?
Lily: I wish that I were grieving, but that--that's not it. Listen, I... I've been seeing Cane. I see him all the time.
Woman: (Humming)
Woman: (Scoffs)
[Genevieve remembering]
Samantha: No! No! No!
Caleb: Family! Do you understand the meaning of the word "Family"?
Cane: (Grunting)
Caleb: Do you understand it?
Samantha: Caleb!
Caleb: Hmm?
Samantha: Let him go!
Cane: (Straining) More than you'll ever know.
Samantha: Caleb, stop.
Cane: Leave her alone!
Samantha: Oh, my God, you're killing him.
Caleb: Shut your mouth! The little princess will do what she's told. Do you understand what I'm saying to you, Boy?
Cane: Don't hurt her.
Samantha: Please, look, I'll do whatever you want. Just don't hurt him. Don't hurt Cane.
Woman: (Humming)
(Grandfather clock chimes)
(Church bell rings)
Colin: It's time.
Colin: (Sighs)
Colin: Genevieve? Funeral.
Colin: We have to say our good-bye to Samantha.
Genevieve: (Humming)
Diane: You have a lot of nerve being pissed at me.
Nick: Who said I was?
Diane: "Let's sleep together. No, let's just be friends. No, let's sleep together." You couldn't figure out what you wanted our relationship to be.
Nick: Well, my mind's made up now.
Diane: I knew I wanted to be with you, and when you closed that door, Victor was there.
Nick: Yes, he was, wallet in hand.
Diane: You self-righteous jerk. You have no right to pass judgment on the choices I made after you dumped me.
Nick: Oh, maybe you've had five of these, too, but let me refresh your memory. You left my place while we were having a nice, romantic evening to go to Gloworm, where I then went and got to see my father introduce you as the lady in his life. That was fun.
Diane: You didn't want to make a commitment to me.
Nick: (Sighs) Well, neither did my old man, and apparently, neither does my brother, which is why you're hitting on me again.
Diane: (Laughs) I was trying to offer you some comfort. I know that seeing the place where Sharon died couldn't have been easy.
Nick: And that $500 million I was just given never crossed your mind?
Diane: You go to hell.
Nick: I think I'll go to sleep instead.
(Plane lurches)
Adam: So, uh, when can we expect a final report from you?
Bob: A week, maybe sooner. I know you're anxious to put this to rest.
Adam: I wanted to do this for my fiancée, for her children. I just didn't realize how much I needed to do it for myself.
Bob: I'll keep in touch.
Adam: Thank you. (Sighs)
Sam: (Rubs hands together) Okay, Fanny's all loaded up in the truck.
Piper: She thought since she won a blue ribbon, she wouldn't have to go in a crate, but Sam made her.
Sam: Uh, it's, uh, it's safer, you know? Y'all ready to go?
Sharon: Um... yeah, I'm ready.
Sam: Come on.
Adam: My fiancée. She was, uh, she was killed in an accident up on Route 40. I didn't think I could go back there... ever, but I think now I can.
Woman: You loved her very much.
Adam: I still do.
Woman: These, the amaranths, they never die. Even when they're cut, they still bloom.
Adam: I'll take 'em. Just keep that.
Woman: Thank you.
Man: Excuse me. I couldn't help overhearing. You were talking about that car accident that happened on Route 40 last month?
Adam: Yeah, my, uh, my fiancée--she died in the accident up there.
Man: You sure it was your fiancée who died?
Adam: Look, Buddy, I don't know what you want from me--
Man: I'm not trying to start any trouble, it's just... my wife's been missing since April 15th, the same night as that accident.
Adam: I'm sorry. I don't know what that has to do with me.
Man: Any chance there was a mix-up?
Sam: Our "Funny girl" definitely inherited some star genes, huh? A blue ribbon at her age?
Piper: Let's make a toast.
Sam: To me?
Piper: No, to Fanny, silly.
Sam: We knew that, didn't we, Sheri? Sheri?
Sharon: What?
Sam: Piper'd like to make a toast to fanny.
Sharon: Oh, yeah. Go ahead, Sweetie.
Piper: To Fanny, who never gives up, even if things are looking really bad, like when she was sick or lost, she just hangs in and keeps on trying. I guess that's what it takes to win. Man, do I wish my softball team knew that. Anyway, thanks, Fanny. To the next state champion.
Sam: Hear, hear.
Sharon: Hear, hear. (Bottles clink)
Diane: (Sighs) New Mexico... (Scoffs) I should have gone to a nice, luxurious spa right here in Genoa City, done something for myself. That is the last time I try to help that stubborn idiot. (Sighs) Forget him. (Sighs) Hey, hey, there, Honey. It's--its Mom. I'm back. I'd like to see you. I could sure use a hug from my number one guy, so give me a call.
(Knock on door)
Diane: Nick?
Nick: You're right. I am pissed at you.
Diane: (Sighs) Nick.
Neil: Here, here's some water.
Neil: So you've been seeing Cane? (Clears throat)
Lily: Yes.
Neil: In your dreams?
Lily: No, when I'm awake.
Neil: Like the time you saw the man at the Athletic Club that you thought was Cane?
Lily: No, no, not like that. I mean, the first time that I saw him, it was at the club, you know? And it was Cane, and I saw him in the elevator. And then I saw him again at the cemetery. And then he came to the house, and he just kept showing up, you know? And he would--he would-- he would talk to me, and he would tell me how much he loved me and--and wanted to be with me and--and the twins. And, Dad, I would tell myself, I would say, "Lily, this isn't real." You know, Cane is dead, and I-I-I know that in my mind, but it's like my heart-- it just couldn't let go.
Lily: (Sighs)
Neil: Yeah.
Lily: I mean, just... (Sighs) Be honest with me, you know? Do you think that I'm crazy?
Neil: You are not crazy. When people lose people who are close to them, you know, they react in different ways. They cope in different ways. I did when your mother died.
Lily: Yeah, but these... visions or whatever they are, they're... they're making me feel out of control.
Neil: And you did something about it, didn't you? You came here, and you checked yourself in. That's a good sign.
Lily: Do you really think so?
Neil: Yes. It's gonna be okay. Lily, you're gonna be okay.
Lily: Yeah, I know. I'm--I'm gonna get better. You know, I'm gonna get better for the twins. I'm gonna get better for me.
Neil: Yes, of course you are. (Sighs)
Lily: But listen. Dad, please, just please don't tell anyone about me seeing Cane, okay? Not anybody.
Neil: Shh, shh, shh. I won't say a thing, I love you. I won't say a thing, all right?
Lily: All right, thank you.
(Knock on door)
Lily: Come in.
Neil: (Clears throat)
Jill: Hi.
Neil: Hi.
Jill: Is it okay if we come in?
Lily: Yeah, of course.
Colin: Uh, your father told us you were here.
Lily: Yeah, I guess, um... (Sighs) I guess getting over Cane is harder than I thought it was gonna be.
Jill: Oh, Honey, we understand. That's why we're here. We want to help.
Lily: Thank you. I appreciate the support. I'm just... I'm not sure what you guys can really do, you know?
Jill: Well, the thing is, Colin came up with a really good idea, I think. If you'd like us to, we would love to look after Matty and Charlie, and they can stay at the Chancellor estate any time you need them to.
Colin: Give you a chance to spend more time with Lily or just recharge, whatever.
Neil: Wow, that's, uh, uh, very, very generous of you. Thank you.
Colin: We get as much as we give. I mean, you know how Jill feels about the twins.
Lily: Well, thank you. Thank you both. I-I just-- I know the twins couldn't be in better hands. (Chuckles)
[Genevieve remembering]
Caleb: Well, she was a stupid little spoiled brat who was used to getting her own way. Well, she got her own way, didn't she? She got herself killed. (Sighs) I suppose you can blame her hero Cane for letting his little baby sister take a bullet that was meant for him. 'Cause it wasn't my fault, was it, hmm? It wasn't my fault. Cane should be dead.
Cane: Have some tea, Mom. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. This shouldn't have happened. It should have been me. It should have been me who is dead, not Samantha. (Sighs) (Voice breaking) Not Samantha, Mom. It shouldn't have been Samantha. (Sobs)
Genevieve: Nothing will ever be the same again.
Adam: It was definitely my fiancée who was in that car crash we were talking about.
Man: You sure?
Adam: I identified the body myself.
Man: And that guy you were talking to--
Adam: The forensic specialist.
Man: He said your fiancée was badly burned.
Adam: Yeah, but there was other proof that it was Sharon, though.
Man: I just thought since my wife went missing that same night, it was possible it was her.
Adam: Look, um, not that I wish any ill on your wife, but I would give anything to find out that it was anybody else in that car that night.
Man: It's the not knowing that's tough.
Adam: You file a missing person's report?
[Man remembering]
Woman: Give me your jewelry. Count backwards from 500, and don't stop till you get to zero.
Man: She knows how to use that gun.
Woman: Out loud!
Sharon: (Whimpers)
Adam: You know, you really should file a report.
Man: Yeah, I guess I just thought she'd turn up by now.
Adam: I, um, I gotta go. I have a plane to catch.
Man: Thanks for your time.
Adam: Yeah, um, hope you find your wife. I know how hard it can be when you lose somebody that you love.
Adam: (Sighs)
Adam: (Sighs)
Woman: She's pretty. Is she your girlfriend?
Adam: She was. I just... came from saying good-bye to her.
Woman: It must have been hard.
Adam: (Sighs)
Piper: I wish my mom and dad could have gone to the fair with us, seen Fanny win first prize.
Sam: Well, they are gonna be very proud of you when you show 'em that ribbon.
Piper: Too bad they have to miss so many things.
Sharon: I'll bet your parents wish things could be different.
Piper: I guess.
Sharon: Nobody likes letting down the people they love.
Sam: Your mom and dad do love you, Kiddo. They love you a lot.
Piper: I know. I'm gonna go show Fanny her ribbon again.
Sam: All right. Don't let her eat that.
Piper: Come on. She's a lamb, not a goat.
Sam: You'd think I'd know that by now, huh? So, uh, did I push too hard?
Sharon: What?
Sam: Insisting you go to the fair with us? I don't know, you just seem a little quiet since we got back.
Sharon: Actually, I'm really glad I went. It helped me realize something.
Sam: What's that?
Sharon: It gave me a sort of a window into the past, and I realized... I can't go back, and this is my life now. And that's okay.
Sam: You sure?
Sharon: I'm just gonna need a little time to get used to it.
Lily: Uh, listen, I don't mean to rush you guys off, but, um, Dr. Mason's actually coming here soon. I just want to get my thoughts together.
Jill: Oh, no, no, no, no. We understand, but, Lily, promise me you will call us if there's anything we can do.
Lily: (Sighs) Listen, you're already doing the most important thing, and that's taking care of the twins. So I just really hope that it's not too much of a burden.
Jill: We love those precious little darlings. And, Lily, we love you, too.
Lily: Thank you.
Neil: Now, Honey, if you need me, day or night, you just pick up the phone and call me, all right?
Lily: Thank you.
Colin: You did the right thing coming here, really.
Lily: Thank you.
Neil: Okay.
Lily: Um, Colin? Um, y-you know, I know that--that you talked with my dad earlier before about, you know, me talking to myself.
Colin: I didn't mean to interfere, but Jill and I just got really concerned.
Lily: No, I'm not even upset. I'm not. I-I actually really appreciate that you did that.
Colin: You do?
Lily: You know, the twins and I, it's like... you barely know us, you know? But... I don't know. Maybe because of Jill or maybe just 'cause of who you are, it's, like, the love that you have for us... just--thank you. Thank you for treating us like we're your family.
Caleb: I'm sorry. I lost my temper, and I'm sorry. I know how much this means to you. I know how much Samantha meant to you. But if we, um, if we don't move on this, we won't get what we want.
Genevieve: I'm going to get what I want... In my own way, my time. Don't question that. And don't cross me... ever.
Sam: Well, first-prize Fanny is back home safe and sound with her proud owner.
Sharon: It's sad. Piper's parents miss out on so much of their little girl's life.
Sam: Well, I don't think they're gonna get much sleep tonight. That kid was talkin' a mile a minute about all the stuff that happened today.
Sharon: It was quite a day.
Sam: If you need anything, I...
Sharon: No, I'm good.
Sam: All right. Well, I got a couple patients to see back at the house, so I'll, uh, I'll see you tomorrow.
Sharon: Sam? Thank you for, uh, for urging me to go to the festival with you and Piper.
Sam: You are a hard one to peg. You know that?
Sharon: I really don't mean to be. I-I'm really glad I went. If I hadn't, I might still be sitting here wondering whether or not I should stay here or not.
Sam: I don't know what happened at the festival today, but, uh, I'm glad you got your answers. And I'm even happier you're stayin'. Good night.
Jill: I hope you don't mind coming here for dinner. I just figured that Katherine could use the break, you know? She spent the whole day at the hospital with Tucker. (Sighs)
Colin: You know, if we take this trip to Australia that we're talking about, it'll give Katherine a nice, fat break from the likes of us.
Jill: (Chuckles) Well, it could be a while before Lily's ready for that, though.
Neil: Well, hey. Glad I ran into you two. Um, listen, I wanted to thank you so much for offering to help with the kids.
Colin: Yeah, we meant it. Anytime you want a break, just give us a call.
Neil: I will do that, and you keep your phone close, all right? And I'll see you guys later.
Jill: Take care, Neil.
Neil: All right, you, too.
Jill: (Sighs) Thank you. It must be really hard for him seeing Lily like this.
Colin: Yeah, not just him.
Jill: Oh, Sweetie, I know. (Sighs)
Colin: You know, you're right. I-it's strange for me to be thinking so much about Lily, and I think I figured out why.
Jill: She really touched something in you, didn't she?
Colin: Yeah, in a way that only one other person has ever done-- my daughter Samantha.
Lily: It's gonna be okay. He's not real. He's not real.
Caleb: I agreed to go along with this plan 'cause we were both gonna get something out of it, but this isn't, um, it's not what I wanted.
Genevieve: You don't always get what you want.
Cane: I'm not gonna let things turn out like that.
Genevieve: And I'm not gonna let you blow this one.
Cane: I thought you were anxious to reveal the truth.
Genevieve: Oh, no one's looking forward to the look on your father's face when he realizes that it was Caleb who died on those church steps more than me. But it's not time yet. He should not know yet that you are Cane and that you're alive.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Phyllis: You have no say in what happens in Lucy's life.
Victoria: Neither do you.
Kevin: Or are you just trying to prove a point to Billy? You still have a thing for him, or what?
Nikki: My name is Nikki, and I'm a drunk. Oh, pardon me. I'm an alcoholic.
