Episode # 9635 ~ Genoa City Mourns Sharon's Death
Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma
Victoria: Hey, Baby, uh, the Goodwill pickup is today, so if you have anything to add, just put it in the box, okay?
Billy: Mm, like maybe that green sweater that you despise so much?
Victoria: (Scoffs) I wouldn't be heartbroken if it somehow made its way in here.
Billy: Well, then Lucy and I will take it under advisement, won't we?
Victoria: I just really hate giving these little things of Lucy's away, but, I mean, they're too small. She's growing too fast.
Billy: Hey, you cut that out. You hear me? Ooh.
Victoria: Mm. Doris had cute little outfits like this for Sharon once. My heart really goes out to her. There's nothing more devastating than losing a child.
Jana: Oh, God, any luck recovering the files?
Kevin: I've been up half the night battling this blue screen of death...
Jana: (Sighs)
Kevin: Getting more and more pissed.
Jana: Well, could it be a virus?
Kevin: Not one of the scans I ran turned up anything.
Jana: Well, then what on earth happened? How could every scrap of data on your computer just... (Snaps fingers) Disappear like that?
Kevin: That's what I'm trying to figure out. (Sighs)
Phyllis: Daniel? Hey, you're going to Sharon's funeral?
Daniel: Hey, uh, yeah, you know, I wanted to be there for Noah and for Abby. She takes these things pretty rough. How about you, huh? How you doin'? What are you gonna do without Sharon to torment, huh? It's gonna be like Wile E. Coyote without the Road Runner.
Phyllis: I can't believe you're saying that to me.
Daniel: What?
Phyllis: I can't believe you're--you are going to hell for that. Ser--
Daniel: Oh, that's what's gonna punch my ticket.
Phyllis: Well, yes.
Daniel: (Chuckles)
Phyllis: Sharon and I had issues, definitely, but we were connected by a lot of people.
Abby: (Sighs) Oh, I hate this. Burying people-- I don't think I can get used to it.
Jack: Wish I could tell you it gets any easier, Kiddo.
Sharon: Hey, knock, knock.
Daniel: (Clears throat)
Jack: Hey.
Abby: Hey. Daniel, you came. I didn't think after yesterday--
Daniel: Hey, you know what? Yesterday's yesterday. Today is today. I'm here now. No cameras, though, right?
Abby: (Scoffs) Yeah, no. I told Kent no way.
Jack: Glad to hear that.
Daniel: Do you want to maybe go get some coffee?
Abby: I would love to. Um, I'll see you at the church?
Phyllis: Yeah, see you there.
Abby: Okay.
Jack: Wasn't sure you were gonna make it.
Phyllis: Why would you say that?
Jack: I don't know. It seems like you've been avoiding me since you got back from the Caribbean.
Sam: Well, I should have company more often.
Sharon: (Sighs) I'm not company, remember? I'm a trespasser.
Sam: And now you're cleanin' out my barn. How'd that happen?
Sharon: Well, I got up early, and, um, I went for a walk. It's so incredibly peaceful out here. I never realized the desert could be so beautiful.
Sam: Well, I'm glad you appreciate it. I wouldn't rather be anywhere else than here. I wouldn't rather do anything other than what I'm doin'.
Sharon: See, I really admire that. Not very many people find that. I know I never did. Anyway, I-I came back from my walk, and, um, I gave Fanny a bottle, and I just decided to pitch in a little bit.
Sam: Well, it's certainly not necessary, but I-I do appreciate it.
Sharon: I made some coffee. You want a warm-up?
Sam: I'd love that. Thank you. You know, there's a lot of stuff around here that needs doin'. I mean, if you don't have any place to be, maybe you could stick around and give me a hand.
Sharon: Maybe... for a few days. But I'm not a guest. I intend to earn my keep.
Nick: There's a lot of cards.
Nikki: People have been incredibly kind.
Noah: (Sighs) I'm glad we're keepin' things small. I wouldn't want to be around a bunch of strangers.
Nikki: No, it's just gonna be family and a few close friends.
Nick: I issued a statement to the press asking them to respect our privacy. Only the people who have been invited know when or where the funeral will be.
Noah: And what about Adam?
Nikki: (Scoffs) That guy. If he loves Sharon half as much as he says he did, he will respect her services and not disrupt them.
Nick: All right, you ready to go? I want to get there early and make sure things go smoothly.
Nikki: I'm gonna stay here with Faith until her nanny gets here.
Noah: Okay.
Nick: Thanks, Mom.
Noah: (Sighs)
Nikki: I'll see you there, Sweetheart. We will get through this, minute by minute if necessary.
Noah: We got a package.
Nikki: Oh.
Nick: Here, I'll take that.
Nikki: Oh, thank you, Honey.
Nick: (Sighs)
Nikki: All right, I'll be there as soon as I can.
Nick: Okay.
Nikki: Mm.
(Doorbell rings repeatedly)
(Pounding on door)
Adam: I shouldn't be surprised. You changed the locks. Now I can't get into Sharon's place. You have no right.
Victor: I have every right. This is my house, my property, and I don't want you on it.
Adam: That was Sharon's place. You cannot just take it.
Diane: He can, and he did.
Adam: This is ridiculous. My things are there. I was living there.
Victor: You don't like it? Sue me. The house is on my property. You're lucky you got past security. It ain't gonna happen again.
Adam: Oh, don't worry. I'm gonna take you to court, you son of a bitch.
Spencer: Perhaps you'll be there sooner than you think.
Victor: Fortuitous that you showed up. The D.A. has some questions for you.
Jana: Okay, tell me again what led up to your data going missing.
Kevin: (Sighs) I was trying to hack through the bank's firewall...
Jana: (Sighs)
Kevin: So I could get the customer I.D.s and figure out who it was that wired the money to the baby broker.
Jana: Mm-hmm.
Kevin: What was her name again? Primrose?
Jana: Yes, and then what happened?
Kevin: Um, then Daniel shows up. We're chatting, and the espresso machine starts acting up, right? So I go to fix it, and a couple of minutes later, boom, he's out the door. And then now that I think about it, it was actually really strange.
Jana: What was?
Kevin: Well, he comes back a second time, stays for a few seconds, and boom... (Snaps fingers) He's out the door again.
Jana: You're not saying that you think that maybe Daniel might have touched--
Kevin: No, I'm just saying my computer was fine, I left it alone with him, and then it wasn't.
Jana: Why would your best friend want to sabotage your computer?
Kevin: All right, well, look, don't get--don't get mad, but I-I told him I was looking for the baby.
Jana: What?! Kevin, you promised me that you weren't gonna say anything.
Kevin: Yes, yes, I promised I would protect you, and I did. I never said your name. I said I was the one looking.
Jana: Do you think that maybe that was Daniel's motive then? Did he delete everything so that you wouldn't find the baby?
Kevin: I don't know, but I'm gonna ask him.
Phyllis: Wait a second. I told you, I've been really busy. I'm really busy at work. I hit the ground running, you know? And Summer just got back from her trip, and I'm trying to console her, 'cause she's upset about Sharon, so, listen, if you're gonna throw accusations at me, just--
Jack: Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Time out. Time out. I was kidding. Obviously, you're not. Why would you get upset about this? What's going on?
Phyllis: I-I'm not upset. I'm not. I'm fine. I'm fine. It's just I'm exhausted. I-it's been a rough couple days. I mean, it's difficult. That's all. We should go. We're gonna--we're gonna be late for the service.
Sharon: I don't need a stipend.
Sam: Well, I insist.
Sharon: Look, you're kind enough just to give me a place to sleep.
Sam: Whenever you decide to move along, you're gonna need money.
Sharon: Okay. (Sighs) You're right. You win. But, um, I intend to work really hard, so I don't want you to baby me.
Sam: Says the woman who's been muckin' out stalls all morning.
Sharon: You know, this is a little bit embarrassing, but, um, I do need a favor.
Sam: Already?
Sharon: I just-- I could use a-a change of clothes. Just some things I could work in. And like you said, I'm broke.
Sam: I'm headed into town. Why don't you come along? Pick out whatever you need.
Sharon: I-I-I can't. I don't want to be seen in public.
Adam: This was an ambush, plain and simple.
Victor: I had no idea you'd be coming here this morning. I was just passing along some information to Mr. Walsh.
Adam: What information, Dad?
Spencer: As you know, the cops are investigating Sharon's escape from the courthouse. It wasn't spontaneous. She had help, lots of help.
Adam: And as you know, I was giving an interview to the press at that time.
Spencer: That doesn't mean you weren't able to loosen the bars of the bathroom window beforehand, or to plant the chloroform and the rag that Sharon used to knock the guard out or gotten her the needed cash to make it all the way to New Mexico.
Victor: Of which you had plenty, didn't you? After you sold your stock options to Tucker. You left a money trail all over the world. Many banks, always under assumed names, all trace back to you, Son.
Diane: So much for covering your tracks, Genius.
Adam: It was my money. I could do what I want with it, and nothing I did was fraudulent.
Spencer: The fraud was against the people of Wisconsin who was deprived of getting justice for Skye's murder.
Adam: There was no murder! Do you understand me?! There was an accident, and this bastard was right there.
Spencer: The jury believed otherwise.
Adam: If the two of you spent half as much energy and attention on finding the truth as you have on trying to railroad me, Sharon would not be having her own funeral today.
Adam: If you're gonna arrest me, arrest me. If not, you and you can go... to... hell.
Spencer: (Sighs) (Front door slams)
Spencer: Thanks for giving the department a heads-up on Adam's finances.
Diane: He's gotta be the one who helped Sharon.
Spencer: Since Adam was here, we could have taken care of that other matter, ensure that he wouldn't be bursting in on you and your family ever again.
Victor: Mr. Walsh, thank you for coming by. But we'll deal with all of that in due time, all right?
Noah: You okay, Grandma?
Doris: I'm doing my best. It helps that all these people care. Mrs. Chancellor sent over so much food, I-I won't have to grocery shop for a month.
Noah: (Chuckles)
Nick: Everyone's been reaching out. They all remember the Sharon that we knew.
Doris: Oh, Sharon. How could you have lost your way like that? Why couldn't we help you? And why wouldn't you listen?
Noah: Wow.
Doris: They're breathtaking. Who are they from?
Nick: "Sharon, forever in my heart and mind and soul. We'll never be apart." Guess who?
Kevin: So what did you do to my computer yesterday?
Daniel: What are you talkin' about?
Kevin: I tell you I'm looking for Daisy's kid. You leave, come back, leave again, but not before my hard drive is totally scrubbed.
Abby: Wait, what?
Kevin: So what was in that gym bag you had? Some malicious software? A magnet? What?
Daniel: Gym clothes and my camera. You know that.
Kevin: You're lying, and you were lying about Canada. Michael was right. You don't want this kid found.
Daniel: You need to back off.
Kevin: Oh, so why did you do it? Was I gettin' too close? Is that why? You son of a bitch!
Abby and Jana: (Gasp)
Jana: Aah!
Abby: Okay, okay, you know what? Actually, we're on our way to a funeral, so we can't do this right now. We can't do this. Go. Go. Go.
Daniel: We don't have to stay here and listen to this crap.
Kevin: Look, all you did was slow me down. You're not gonna stop me, Daniel.
Abby: Come on. Out. Go.
Jana: My God. Are you all right? (Scoffs)
Kevin: It's fine. It's fine.
Jana: Oh, no. I have to leave. This, um, I-I have to go to Billy and Victoria's, 'cause I'm watching Lucy while they go to the funeral. I'm sor--I'm sorry.
Kevin: Fine. It's fine. It's fine. I'm fine. Just go. It's okay.
Jana: Go put some ice on that, okay?
Kevin: I will. I will. I will. It's fine.
Jana: (Sighs)
Kevin: (Sighs)
Adam: So Walsh was trying to intimidate me, which is nothing new. But my father... my father changed the locks on Sharon's doors. He doesn't own the house. He doesn't own the ground that it sits on. Sharon did.
Leslie: Okay, Adam, now you know I will do what I can about the locks, but unless she had a valid will that specifically bequeathed the property and the house to you, uh, yeah, it's gonna be difficult to fight the eviction.
Sam: You know, if you're nervous about meetin' people...
Sharon: No, it's not that. It's just... I just don't want to be seen like this. Anyway, I should get cleaned up. Half the day'll be gone.
Sam: Well, write down what you need.
Sharon: Okay, um, just, um, a pair of jeans, nothing fancy.
Sam: Okay.
Sharon: And I'll just stay here and work while you're gone.
Sam: Well, fair enough.
Sharon: (Sighs) Fanny, looks like I'll be staying for a little while.
Doris: (Sighs)
Victor: My heart goes out to you. No parent should have to bury their own child.
Doris: She loved you so much. (Sighs) In many ways, you were the father she never had.
Victor: (Sighs) I loved her, too... though regrettably, I also disappointed her towards the end.
Doris: You're not the only one who did.
Diane: Beautiful flowers.
Noah: (Sighs) These are from the Winters, Michael and Lauren, Sharon's lawyer, and you and granddad. (Sighs)
Diane: I'm so sorry about your mom. If you or your dad need anything at all...
Jack: Noah.
Noah: (Sighs)
Jack: (Sighs)
Phyllis: How's Noah doing?
Nick: Uh, it's been pretty rough. (Sighs) He's holding a lot inside.
Phyllis: When this is done, can we talk? I need your help. I don't like lying to Jack.
Nick: We'll figure it out.
Phyllis: Okay. (Sighs)
Sam: Okay, jeans, t-shirt, sneakers, ball gown.
Sharon: (Sighs) Oh, that'll come in handy.
Sam: Yeah.
Sharon: Um, thank you. I-I didn't expect you to get me all that. Thank you.
Sam: Oh, you're very welcome. It's nothin'. I could, uh, use a hand, though, once you get changed, if you don't mind, helpin' me move the horses over to another pasture. You okay around horses?
Sharon: Yeah. I-I spent some time on a ranch before.
Jack: Once Sharon started heading down that path again with Adam...
Nick: There was no saving her.
Phyllis: It's not like you didn't try.
Jack: Right up to the last minute. If Adam hadn't tricked you two, you wouldn't have found yourselves stranded thousands of miles away from where Sharon really was.
Diane: I'd like to offer my condolences to Nick, but I wanted to check with you first.
Victor: Sure, go ahead. It will be all right.
Diane: Thank you. Nick, I know you're dealing with a lot. If there's anything I can do...
Nick: Thank you.
Nikki: Doris, I am so sorry.
Doris: Oh, thank you, Nikki. I'm sorry, too. I'm sorry that any of this had to happen.
Nikki: She was your daughter, your precious little girl. That's all that matters today.
Doris: Yeah.
Nikki: Nothing else.
Abby: Hold still.
Daniel: Okay. Yeah, okay. Okay.
Abby: Here. Okay, you know what? There's blood, okay? Do you want to have to answer a lot of questions? What I want to know is, why were you and Kevin fighting about the baby again? Why?
(Footsteps approach)
Daniel: Hey. Sorry, Man.
Noah: Thanks.
Abby: Come here, you. Come here. (Sighs) Oh.
Daniel: Um, can I talk to you for a second?
Victoria: Hi.
Billy: Yeah.
Victoria: I'm--I'm gonna go find my mom.
Billy: What's up, Man?
Reverend Fulton: Excuse me. I'm sorry to interrupt, but if you'd care to move inside the sanctuary, we're about to start.
Daniel: (Sighs)
(Doorbell rings)
Jana: (Grunts)
Jana: Oh. (American accent) Oh, my God. What are you doing here?
Agnes: Um...
Jana: Come in, come in, come in.
Agnes: Thank you. (Chuckles)
Jana: (Scoffs) How--how on earth did you find me?
Agnes: Well, I-I followed you from that coffee place. Um, I just can't stop thinking about the baby.
Jana: (Sighs) You know, I tried to find her. I did, but, um, I-I hit a dead end. Maybe you can help me change that.
Agnes: (Sighs)
Reverend Fulton: I'd like to welcome everyone here to this remembrance and celebration...
Spencer: Hold it right there.
Adam: You can't stop me, Walsh.
Reverend Fulton: Of the life of Sharon Newman.
Spencer: This is a restraining order. You're not to come within 100 feet of Victor Newman, which means you're not allowed in this church.
Adam: On what grounds? I did nothing to him.
Man: This way.
Adam: Get your hands off me. I'm not goin' anywhere.
Spencer: Think again.
Adam: Sharon and I were engaged, you hear me? We were engaged. I have as much right to be at this funeral as anyone else.
Man: We can do this the easy way or the hard way. Up to you.
Adam: How many lies you tell the judge to get her to sign off on this?
Spencer: Get him out of here.
Adam: Huh, Walsh? Public servant, right? What a joke. What a joke. You're in my father's pocket, just like everybody else!
Reverend Fulton: Let us pray.
[Sharon imagining]
Adam: God, how I've missed you. My world is so empty without you. Everything's just falling apart. How could you just walk away, Sharon? How could you leave me?
Nick: It's just like you to run away when things get tough. Did you do it on purpose? Did you kill yourself? Did you even once think about Faith? Your little girl cries herself to sleep every night.
Noah: I do, too, but I'd never tell anyone. I'd be too ashamed to.
Sharon: (Sighs) What do I do? (Sniffles) Do I just let everyone keep thinking I'm dead? But if--if I go back, I may go to prison for years, maybe the rest of my life.
Sam: You ready?
Sharon: (Sniffles)
Sam: You know, if, uh, if you're not feelin' well...
Sharon: Uh, um, it's fine. It--it's just... (Sniffles) I think my allergies have been kicking up.
Reverend Fulton: From the moment I first met Sharon, I knew she had the gift of a generous heart. Sharon loved freely and deeply and was beloved by many in return. There was a great deal of unrest in Sharon's life before the Lord took her home. But I hope you can all find comfort in the knowledge that she has finally found eternal peace.
Man: Do you want us to stick around?
Reverend Fulton: Almighty God...
Spencer: As a gesture toward the family.
Reverend Fulton: You love everything you have made...
Spencer: But I'd say we put the fear of God in Adam Newman. He won't come back.
Reverend Fulton: We rejoice in your promises of pardon, joy, and peace to all those who love you. In your mercy, turn the darkness of death into the dawn of new life, and the sorrow of parting into the joy of heaven. I hope you'll think of Sharon as I do-- in the comfort of the Lord's everlasting embrace, joined there by her beloved daughter Cassíe. Cassie's father Nicholas shared with me a drawing that she made before she was called to her final resting place. It's a picture of her family as she saw it.
Sharon: Well, I don't see why you needed me out there. I mean, all you did was wave your hand, and the horses went right where you wanted them to.
Sam: Well, I've been at this a while. You know, you pick up a few tricks.
Sharon: Still, it was really amazing. I mean, you have quite a way with them.
Sam: Well, you're no slouch yourself. I've never seen 'em warm up to anyone that quickly.
Sharon: Oh, well, I had carrots in my pocket.
Sam: Nah, horses can tell a lot about people. I think they could tell you have a good soul.
All: "The lord is my shepherd. I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you art with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You anoint my head with oil. My cup runs over. Surely, goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever."
Reverend Fulton: Amen. If anyone would like to say a personal word about Sharon, please feel free to come up at this time.
Nick: When I came home from Switzerland when I was 16 to finish high school here, I, uh, I had three things on my mind-- girls, girls, and more girls. (Sighs) Sharon had just moved here from Madison, so she didn't know anyone, either. We came from two totally different worlds, and we always had that in common. We were just two high school seniors trying to fit in and make friends. I'll tell you, the first time I laid eyes on this woman... (Chuckles) I was a goner. I mean, that was it for me. Sharon Collins was the first true love of my life. We made three beautiful children together. Sharon always said that children... are our only gift, because they're in our lives for such a short while. We care for them, and we get to enjoy them, and then we gotta let 'em go, because they're not really ours. They're just God's. And I really hope the minister is right when he says that Sharon's with Cassíe right now. I also hope that we can all find a way to help each other through this terrible tragedy that took this beautiful woman from us. I look around at everyone here today, and I can't help thinking that wherever Sharon is, she's really grateful to see your faces, from her mom, Doris, to my own mom to my dad. Sharon had an especially close friendship with him. She looked past the business persona to the man inside and what she saw... these pizzas are all the same.
Kevin: No, Chloe, I didn't want to believe it, either, but Daniel had motive. He had opportunity. Yeah, I know. I know. It's a huge pain the butt, but I'll reconstruct whatever I have to, and I am not gonna give up on finding my niece. (Sighs)
Agnes: Look, the only number that I had for Prim was that phone number that I gave you.
Jana: (American accent) (Sighs) The one that was out of service.
Agnes: She was really secretive. I guess for good reason, huh? (Chuckles)
Jana: Listen. I'm gonna write down my phone number, okay? And I want you to call me if anything else occurs to you. It doesn't matter if it's day or night. And I also-- I-I'd really appreciate it if you could write down yours, too, just in case.
Agnes: Uh, yeah, um, mm, my husband cannot find out that I've been talking to you.
Jana: I'm not out for trouble.
Agnes: No, seriously, he would kill me.
Jana: Please, Agnes, for the baby's sake. I promise, I will be very discreet.
Agnes: All right. But please...
Jana: Yes, I'll only-- thank you. Thank you.
Agnes: Uh-huh.
Jana: I'll only use it in a dire emergency. I promise, okay? Thank you so much for reaching out to me.
Agnes: I really hope you find this baby.
Jana: (Sighs) I really hope so, too.
Agnes: This outfit... this outfit... is the one that I bought at the thrift store. This is the outfit that the baby was in when Prim took her.
Sharon: You know, Fanny seems a little bit weak to me.
Sam: Yeah, I'm hoping the vitamin supplements I put in her bottle are gonna help.
Sharon: All right, Girl. Come on. You gotta drink it all down. I know.
Sam: You have kids?
Sharon: Yeah. I do, but things aren't good right now. I really can't talk about it.
Sam: Don't have to. None of my business. Well, I got some, uh, some patients back up at the house I need to see.
Sharon: Okay.
(Ewe bleats)
Sharon: Oh, did you hear that? That's your mama. Yeah, she misses you.
Sharon: I hope my little lambs are okay.
Reverend Fulton: Sharon is in heaven now, and those who loved her will be with her again someday. This concludes our service. Go in peace, and may the Lord's blessings be with you all now and evermore. Amen.
Daniel: Hey, Man, I still gotta talk to you.
(Church bells ringing)
Reverend Fulton: Someone's in the bell tower!
Adam: (Breathing heavily) You thought that you could keep me out, huh? I'm here to tell the truth about Sharon, and everyone here who supposedly loved her, and I'm not leaving until I get my say.
Next on "The Young and the Restless"...
Chloe: You want space? I'll--I'll give you space. How about a black hole?
Kevin: Yeah, well, maybe you could disappear into it.
Daniel: You've been asking a lot of questions about Daisy and the baby, and--and I think that you deserve the truth.
Adam: Letters that Sharon wrote...
Victor: Give them to me.
Adam: In exchange for my freedom.
