Episode # 9603 ~ Victor Makes a Confession

Provided By Suzanne
Proofread By Emma

Abby: Well, this is-- this is great. Nick is not here, and our attorney is not focused on our case.

Victoria: Abby, would you please relax?

Abby: Just tell me why. Tell me why. Why? Why aren't Dad and Adam here? Look at them. Look at them.

Victoria: Just... (Sighs)

Abby: You know what? They know something. They know that we are screwed, that we are royally, utterly and completely screwed.

Victoria: Stop, stop it. Hey, listen to me. Stop. Everything is going to be fine.

Michael: Yeah. Yeah, Heather-- no, I don't care what it takes. Get Victor here now. Yes.

Heather: (Sighs)

Spencer: I'm in the middle of something.

Heather: Yeah, with my client. I need to speak to him. Victor. (Chuckles) Um, Michael has been trying to--

Victor: Heather, kindly tell Michael that I'll be there as soon as I can, all right?

Heather: But, um, y-you--

Victor: Just give him that message, please

Heather: Well, at least let me stay here while you speak to the D.A.

Victor: That's very kind of you, but that won't be necessary. Thank you.

Heather: I'm gonna be right outside if you need anything.

Victor: All right.

Spencer: Where were we?

Victor: I was telling you about a midnight hike I took up to the volcano.

Spencer: You said you heard voices.

Victor: I heard Skye Lockhart's voice and Sharon Newman's voice.

Sharon: Thank you. I'm sorry about before.

Nick: You want to talk about it?

Sharon: (Sighs) Well, Adam feels backed into a corner by Victor. He's under a lot of pressure, but I've never seen him this out of control-- drunk, punching you... he was even drinking again this morning, and he was even angrier than before.

Nick: Well, this lawsuit is getting to all of us.

Sharon: Okay. (Sighs) What's going on?

Nick: Nothing.

Sharon: Normally, you would be all over this with "I told you so's." You know something, don't you?

(Knock on door)

Chloe: It's Chloe.

Chance: (Sighs)

Chloe: Hi.

Chance: Hey. Hi. Come here. I am so glad to see you.

Chloe: (Chuckles) Yeah. Yeah... (Chuckles) Uh, me, too. Maybe not quite as glad to see you, but... okay.

Sofia: Mind if I sit?

Neil: Well, well. Guess I don't. (Sighs) You know, I thought you'd be in a good mood, considering that you got your job back.

Sofia: Oh, I am happy. (Laughs) Terrific. I mean, why wouldn't I be?

Neil: You tell me.

Sofia: Uh, maybe it's the reason I got my job back.

Neil: Tucker realized how important you are to McCall Industries.

Sofia: Oh. (Laughs) Is that why you went to bat for me, Neil? Because I am so good at my job? Or is it because we slept together?

Neil: You really want to talk about what happened between us?

Sofia: Well, we made love, Neil.

Neil: We were both hurting. We needed somebody. We got caught up in the moment.

Sofia: (Sighs) I wanted to feel better, and you made me feel better.

Neil: You did that for me, too. But it, uh, it can't-- it just--it can't happen again, all right?

Sofia: No. No, it can’t.

Neil: Sofia, you have to understand something-- that you got your job back because you're a smart, passionate woman who gives 100%. You put your whole heart into everything you do, my dear, all right?

Sofia: (Chuckles)

Malcolm: Great. You two are together.

Neil: (Clears throat)

Malcolm: I got something I want to say to both of you.

Neil: (Chuckles)

Nick: All right, I'll talk to you soon, Vick. (Sighs) I gotta get to the arbitration.

Sharon: Not before you tell me why you're acting like Adam being a jerk is no big deal. You haven't made one comment about how good it would be for you if Adam showed up out of control and drunk at the hearing today.

Nick: Well, let's just see if that happens.

Sharon: Well, I'm gonna be there in case it does.

Nick: So you can talk some sense into him? Or slap him?

Sharon: Right now, I just want to find him.

Abby: (Sighs)

Michael: Hey. Look, I've been meaning to tell you. I think you're on to something with this TV show idea.

Abby: Mm. Better not let your "Boss" hear you say that.

Michael: (Chuckles) You see, you act-- you act very tough-- filing this lawsuit, turning down your father's settlement offers, putting me in my place. Ant to all appearances, you seem to be a sweet little girl.

Abby: (Scoffs)

Michael: Yeah, right? A dichotomy like that could make for some compelling TV-watching.

Abby: Okay, you can save your breath. I know you don't care about my TV show or me.

Michael: You're wrong. I care. I care about you and Nicholas and Victoria. I care. And no matter what happens with this lawsuit, always will.

(Cell phone rings)

Michael: Excuse me.

Victor: It was very dark that night as I was hiking up the volcano. It was so dark that you couldn't make out anyone. But I could hear voices, and they were clearly the voices of Skye Lockhart and Sharon Newman. And they were in some kind of an argument. I heard Skye Lockhart say that-- or plead with Sharon that she didn't want anyone to know that she--Skye-- was still alive. And then the argument became louder, and I heard Skye Lockhart almost scream at Sharon, "Don't take a picture. Please don't take a picture," meaning they must have gotten into some physical tussle after that, because shortly thereafter, uh, Sharon screamed at the top of her lungs, "Hang on. Hang on," meaning that Skye had obviously gone over the rim and was hanging on to Sharon's hand. And then a few seconds later, as I was trying to move up to where this was all taking place, Skye Lockhart screamed that she could no longer hang on. And she must have then slipped to her death. Because after that, Sharon just screamed the most bloodcurdling scream I've ever heard-- I guess very upset that she couldn't save Skye Lockhart. I'm telling you this because I'm absolutely convinced that Sharon Newman didn't kill Skye Lockhart. It was an accident. It was not a murder.

Victor: Mr. Walsh, I think that just about covers everything.

Spencer: Not quite. Why were you in Hawaii?

Victor: Why would anyone go to Hawaii? It's a beautiful vacation spot.

Spencer: I'm sure you're aware of the allegations that you helped your daughter-in-law fake her own death here in Genoa City.

Victor: Well, to me, Mr. Walsh, that sounds like a statement, not a question.

Spencer: Why would you come forward now?

Victor: Because the mother of my grandchild has been falsely accused of murder. I wanted to make that clear, and I have.

Spencer: I'm not finished, Mr. Newman.

Victor: But I am, Mr. Walsh. You have a nice day, okay?

Heather: Your, uh, your driver is waiting to take you to the arbitration.

Victor: Thank you.

Spencer: Heather? If you see our friend, tell him that, uh, jury selection will be slower than expected. He'll have to sit tight just a little while longer.

Heather: I don't deliver messages for the D.A.'s office.

Spencer: I thought he might want to know. I thought you might want to tell him.

Chance: You know what I miss?

Chloe: Wet T-shirt contests at Jimmy's.

Chance: Smells. Outside. You know, you take 'em for granted, but then once they're gone, it just drives you crazy.

Chloe: Going crazy... yeah, I've been going crazy myself lately. Tell me about it.

Chance: California didn't have much of a springtime, not like it is here. But we did have a lot of rain... (Chuckles) Lot of rain you know that smell when the rain-- it hits the pavement for the first time? I don't know how to describe it. It just--it--it smells like--

Chloe: You know what Kevin promised me? Kevin promised me a new start in springtime. And here I am. I listened to him. We're not together. Okay, sorry. We're--we're "Fake" apart. First Jana, and now Angelo.

Chance: Wait. Kevin's got a thing for someone named Angelo now?

Chloe: Yeah. No, no. (Sighs) It's complicated.

Chance: Huh. Well, look on the bright side-- it could be worse. You could be locked away in a room like this. Believe me it's not fun.

Chloe: Oh, you know what's not fun? What's not fun is working for your ex every day who is a playboy-turned- white-picket-fence-husband, who, by the way, wants to take my daughter away, because he hates my boyfriend, and my boyfriend, he has his whole set of issues, yeah.

Chance: (Sighs)

Chloe: And not just-- no, not just his loopy ex-wife who got hit on the head and lost an entire year.

Chance: Wow, that-- that's awful. Maybe, just maybe, if you would take a step back and actually smell the pavement, your life wouldn't suck so much.

Neil: (Chuckles) Here we go. A little coffee, right?

Malcolm: Thanks, Bro.

Neil: All right, so what's up?

Malcolm: Well, you know, I, uh, I normally wouldn't handle a situation like this in a public place, but, you...

Sofia: (Gasps) Oh, my God, it's just like the one I was gonna-- I was gonna carry in our wedding.

Malcolm: Yes. I designed it just for you, Baby. You know, something bold, different, vibrant, so unique and beautiful, you can never forget. I tried to forget, Sofia. I tried.

Sofia: Malcolm? What are you saying?

Malcolm: I'm saying that I was an idiot for ever lettin' things get this out of hand. You know, um, I should have done something about it a long time ago, and that's what I'm doing right now. I'm doing something about it instead of just talking about it, Baby. I'm doing something real, something to show you that I want to make this thing work. I want us to be together

Sofia: Malcolm...

Malcolm: I want to be the only man in your life.

Sofia: (Sighs)

Malcolm: Baby, I want to marry you.

Sofia: (Sighs)

Malcolm: (Sighs)

Neil: Uh, hey... (Chuckles) You know, I-I really should be going. Um, there's a lot of traffic, and I gotta--

Malcolm: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. Hold up. Where you going? Oh, come on, big bro. Big bro, come on, man. Come on.

Neil: I'm suppose to be-- well, you know, 'cause it's--

Malcolm: You're my big brother, and you are very much a part of this.

Neil: Yeah. Right. All right.

Malcolm: Now you know you're the one--you're the one that made me realize what a fool that I was bein' for ever lettin' anything come between me and my lady. And if she says yes, I want you to be my best man.

Neil: (Chuckles nervously) Yeah.

Malcolm: (Laughs)

Neil: Right. (Chuckles)

Malcolm: So, Sofia, what do you say? You still want to hang out with me for the rest of our lives?

Sofia: Um, yes. (Laughs)

Malcolm: (Laughs)

Sofia: Malcolm, I do. Oh!

Malcolm: Oh, Baby. I love you, Baby. Mm. (Laughs) (Sighs)

Sharon: Have you heard from Adam?

Michael: Right now, I have other concerns.

Heather: He's here.

Michael: Are you ready?

Victor: Mm-hmm. Let's do this.

Michael: (Whispers) Find Adam.

Judge Phelps: I have reviewed the briefs and statements submitted since we last met, and I have some questions for all of you, including Adam Newman, who I assumed would be here today.

Michael: Uh, my colleague is working on locating him, your honor.

Judge Phelps: All right. Let's start with the punitive damages being sought, which seem a bit excessive.

Leslie: Your honor, as you know, punitive damages are based on the net worth of the defendant. Otherwise, they fail to serve as an effective deterrent.

Michael: Your honor, the plaintiff’s claim that they are due a piece of their father's business is based on the fact that they were employed at Newman Enterprises. If you follow that logic out, anyone who's ever worked at Newman would be due a share of the company.

Leslie: Victor Newman gave both Nicholas and Victoria considerable authority at Newman Enterprises over the years, including naming each of them C.E.O. at different times, with the understanding that in exchange for their part in growing the company, they would ultimately be given an ownership stake.

Victor: And if they had contributed to the growth of Newman Enterprises, you would have an argument.

Nick: You know damn well we did.

Judge Phelps: Mr. Newman, please. You will get a chance to speak. Right now, I would like to hear from your father.

Victor: I brought my children, both Nicholas and Victoria, into the fold of the company when they were rather young to teach them, to mentor them. They were eager to learn, I have to admit, somewhat competent. But did they contribute substantially to the growth of Newman Enterprises? No in fact I often regretted having given them as much authority as I-- as I had.

[Nick remembering]

Nick: The decision's been made--Sharon's coming to Newman Enterprises.

Victor: What happened, Son? I'm your father. What happened to you? What happened to our relationship? I made you C.E.O. of Newman Enterprises.

Nick: I'm doing exactly what you would have done in my position. You're just upset, because this time, you are the underdog.

Victor: No, Son that's not what upsets me. And I will never be your underdog. You got that straight? I'm upset because of what's happening right now. She made a commitment to this company. She should honor it. I think I made a mistake when I appointed you C.E.O. of Newman Enterprises.

Nick: You know, maybe you should tell the judge how many times you left me and Vick in charge when you were off having one of your crises.

[Victor remembering]

Victor: Obviously, my attention's gonna be elsewhere. Will you take over the company for a while?

Nick: You want me to run the company now?

Victor: Yeah, I think you're best prepared for it. You know, you and Victoria. She'll be your right hand.

Victor: I know you and I have had our issues. But I think after this trip to my father... (Sighs) I feel closer to you again, and I think... I know I can trust you.

Victor: You two have attempted to run the company in my absence, but never managed to do it with any degree of success.

Victoria: I guess you forget, Dad, all of the times that we've come through for you. You knew it then. You told us so.

[Victoria remembering]

Victoria: So, Dad, I hope you agree with the way that I responded to those memos from our Hong Kong office.

Victor: I couldn't have done it better, my darling.

Victoria: I didn't want to come on too strong

Victor: I got a all from Mr. Chung personally, and he complimented you on the tact and sensitivity that you displayed in regard to their concerns. You think one task well done entitles you to more salary? Your mistakes cost me more than you ever contributed to the company.

Victoria: The S.E.C. investigation is all over the news. Dad, you should hear what they're saying about me. Michael doesn't think I should fight, but I just can't sit back and eat it. Obviously, you haven't worked with my father long enough to know that Newmans don't fold. We fight back.

Victor: Sweetheart, I share your sentiment, but you cannot deal with the press when you're this angry. You're too emotional.

Victoria: I only got in trouble with the S.E.C. because I was covering for you.

Victor: (Sighs)

Victoria: Covering the fact that you weren't up to running the company.

Victor: You mishandled the situation. You both have. I had to always clean up your mess, put myself back in charge.

Victoria: It wasn't the way that we ran the company that you didn't like. You punished us for the choices that we made in our personal lives. Give me a little credit here.

[Victor remembering]

Victor: As far as I'm concerned, Neil Winters is the most qualified man for the job. But you believe in Brad Carlton. Isn't that the truth?

Victoria: I do.

Victor: That tells me all I need to know.

Nick: You wanted to own Newman and our lives.

Victor: That's the offer I'll make you. Your responsibilities at Newman will be restricted, limited, so that you can pursue your outside endeavors. That's the way it has to be. This is my last offer.

Victoria: You never let up.

Victor: I did what I had to do to keep you and your brother from destroying my company.

Nick: We helped build that company.

Victor: You were employees and nothing more!

Victoria: You have no right to take everything away from us.

Victor: You didn't live up to your responsibility, did you now?

Victoria: (Scoffs) We didn't live our lives the way you wanted us to.

Victor: I don't give a damn about your personal lives! This is business.

Victoria: Was what you did to me on my wedding day business?

Victor: Marrying Billy Abbott was an egregious mistake.

Victoria: Which is why you punished me. Business, personal-- it doesn't matter to you. If we don't do what you want, you take away what's rightfully ours.

Victor: It's mine, and don't you ever forget it.

Nick: How could we ever forget that? That's all you've ever said our entire lives it's yours.

Victor: I started this company with nothing, from the ground up, built it into one of the biggest corporations in the world. And now it's under siege from within my own family.

[Victor remembering]

Victor: Well, Gentlemen, if they think they have won, they have another thing coming. If Jack Abbott and Tucker McCall think they're going to pick up the spoils... I will declare war on them. And the war will start right now. No one threatens me and gets away with it.

Victor: I built Newman Enterprises. I did. From the ground up into a billion-dollar corporation. Your honor, I'd rather have the whole thing blown to smithereens than have my ungrateful brats put even a finger on a penny of it.

Judge Phelps: All right. All right, that's enough. Sit down.

Chance: (Groans) (Sighs)

(Knock on door)

Chance: (Sighs)

Chloe: A peace offering...

Chance: Well, come right in.

Chloe: For before-- being...

Chance: A selfish jerk?

Chloe: Okay, well, I wasn't really gonna put it that way, but, yeah.

Chance: Don't worry about it. I'm getting used to it.

Chloe: Not the only thing they changed in witness protection, huh?

Chance: (Scoffs) Let me tell you something. When you lose your identity, your family, your friends, you tend to give up on holding on to anything that was yourself.

Chloe: How are you gonna do this?

Chance: I'll survive. Mom and Grandma... I don't know how they're gonna take it when I tell them I'm going back in the program.

Chloe: Jill and Nina? They--they don't know that you're just sticking around to testify?

Chance: Not yet.

Chloe: Well, you made it very clear very quickly to Heather and me.

Chance: Chloe, I couldn't have any misunderstandings, okay? Going into the witness protection-- yeah, that's totally optional. I'm the one that gets to decide where I go, who I see, who I don't see, who I become. I get to decide when I get to see my mom and my grandmother next. That's my choice.

Chloe: Just like Ronan.

Chance: Look, I don't need you to come in here and give me crap about that, okay?

Chloe: I'm just saying, I think it's kind of a toss-up between the whole jerk thing.

Chance: Between being cut off from my family and my friends... (Sighs) This has kind of been playing a toll on my head.

Chloe: I'm gonna go.

Chance: Wait, Chloe.

Chance: Don't settle for a fake life. Hiding, pretending, lying-- it's not good. Be with Kevin. Don't be with Kevin. Just be real, because I can guarantee you-- guarantee you-- that leading a fake life is much worse than leading no life at all.

Sharon: Adam, I know you're upset, but we really, really need to talk. Please call me as soon as you can.

Heather: (Sighs) I'd love to hear from him, too-- thank God not for the same reason as you do.

Sharon: I'm really worried about him.

Heather: Oh, of course you are. (Chuckles) That's how Adam operates. I got to see it for myself up close and personal.

Sharon: Our relationship is nothing like yours.

Heather: Oh, so he never told you that you're the first person since his mother to really understand him, make him feel good about himself? Adam is a master at luring women into his web. And then when you least expect it, and when it serves him best, he pounces-- so hard and so fast you have no idea what hit you. And I know how much it hurts. But, uh, one thing I-I-I can't understand...you're so close to being free of these murder charges, and all you can think about is Adam.

Sharon: What makes you think that these charges against me are going to be dropped?

Heather: Victor just came from Spencer Walsh's office. He gave a statement to the D.A. trying to clear you.

Abby: (Sighs)

Victor: (Sighs) Whatever happened to that young lady who was so determined to have her own TV show? Hmm?

Abby: Sounds like you miss her.

Victor: I gotta confess, it was rather embarrassing to see you ride in naked on horseback into that restaurant. But in retrospect, I admire your determination to make a statement, to create your own brand so how'd you get from there to this?

Abby: I'm not sure.

Victor: Mm-hmm. You know, you might have reason to blame your brother Nicholas and your sister Victoria, even Jack Abbott. But you and I have got to remember that you're the one who started this, right?

Victor: Don't you worry. I'm gonna end it.

Malcolm: Well, I got a photo shoot to run.

Sofia: (Sighs)

Malcolm: At least I know she's in good hands. Take care of her for me, Bro.

Neil: Yeah.

Malcolm: Later. And you... sooner.

Sofia: (Giggles)

Malcolm: (Chuckles)

Sofia: I should probably head out, too. I've got lot work to do

Neil: Yeah, don't forget. You have a big wedding to plan for... which, I--by the way, I'm very glad that it's happening after all.

Sofia: Well, thanks. I really have to go.

Neil: Of course you have to go. Hold on one second. You wouldn't want to forget these now, would you?

Sofia: Bye, Neil.

Neil: Bye, Sofia.

Sharon: What exactly did Victor say to the district attorney?

Heather: Well I wasn't in he room, but Victor told Michael that he was gonna make it clear that Skye's death was an accident.

Sharon: So that's what he meant in the park when he said it would be okay. I knew he wouldn't let me down.

Heather: I wouldn't go pinning any medals on Victor. I'm sure that there was something in it for him. Tell Michael I couldn't find your boyfriend, probably because he doesn't want to be found.

Judge Phelps: It appears that Adam Newman is not going to make himself available for questioning, so let us return to the issue of damages

Victor: Your honor, may I say a few words? We're here to discuss the treatment of my children as employees of Newman Enterprises. I can assure you that as their employer, I have nurtured them, mentored them, and compensated them extremely well over the years-- extremely generously. They are now attacking the very company they say they so love and care about. I honestly don't think that they deserve any more than they have received so far. I am not trying to keep from my children what is rightfully theirs. But I'll be damned if I'm not the one who decides how much they should be compensated.

Chance: (Exhales sharply)

(Knock on door)

Heather: Can I come in?

Chance: Well, you already are.

Heather: I have a message for you from the D.A.

Chance: Are they ready for me to take the stand finally?

Heather: They're having trouble seating a jury. He said to sit tight.

Chance: (Sighs) Do me a favor-- why don't you go tell Mr. Walsh that if I have to continue to sit tight the prosecution's gonna lose their star witness, okay?

Heather: Why don't you tell him yourself? I was doing you a favor letting you know.

Chance: Oh, gee, thank you very much for being the bearer of great news. I appreciate it.

Heather: Go to hell.

Chance: Look around! I'm already here.

Heather: (Scoffs) Your choice.

Chance: Oh, is that what you think?

Heather: You said you would come back.

Chance: Heather, I couldn't.

Heather: So you lied.

Chance: Y-yes.

Heather: About everything.

Chance: No. No, not all.

Heather: I don't believe you! (Stomps foot) I hate you!

Chance: What--

Chloe: Well, I wish you were here... "Duckie."

Sharon: Adam? Adam, are you here? (Sighs) The suitcases are gone. (Sighs) (Sighs) Adam, I need to know why all your things are gone. I don't care what you said. I will not believe that you never loved me, and I don't believe that you would walk out on me, unless-- please just call me.

[Sharon remembering]

Heather: I wouldn't go pinning any medals on Victor. I'm sure that there was something in it for him.

Sharon: My freedom in exchange for Adam leaving town. Damn you, Victor.

Judge Phelps: We will take a short recess while I review all the evidence that was given here today, and then we will reconvene in a little while.

Michael: I have to speak to Ms. Michaelson.

Victoria: Hey, why don't we go grab something to eat? You want to? Yeah?

Nick: Yeah.

Victoria: All right.

Neil: (Clears throat)

Next on "The Young and the Restless" --

Abby: Will you please tell me that any amount of money is worth this?

Sharon: You're so self-righteous and manipulative. You're more like your father every day.

Victor: If you have an ax to grind with me, come to me. Look me in the eye and deal with me.
